Dear David,
The Christmas tour has come to an exultant close and you are off for a well-deserved holiday. God rest you, merry gentleman. You have given us a Christmas from your own heart. You have asked us to consider why we are here on this bouncing ball, pleaded for the innocent, and opened a portal to the infinite for all within the sound of your voice. You have borne your testimony through word and song of the divinity of the Savior. This is your heart laid bare; this is your gift to us; and we are the better for having received it.
Regardless of one’s own belief system, the sweet sincerity of your faith is a palpable and unifying force. Are we not all brothers and sisters? Do we not all cherish our beliefs and depend upon our truths to give us strength? Can any one of us look upon a child in distress and not want desperately to help? Have we not all wondered why we are here and yearned to leave this world a better place, because we lived?
Someone recently tweeted that she tried to tell you at a VIP all that your music had done for her. Your reply was, “Thanks, but it wasn’t me.”
So vaya con Dios. Go with that God you give the credit for all that you are. Take with you our love. It is as real a force as the warmth of the sun and as unconditional. I hope you will always feel it encircling you like a warm embrace.
In the interim, we will try to be a little more tolerant and kind, a little more thoughtful, a lot more like you. We know you are not perfect. You are a self-admitted, “quirky, little, geeky kind of kid….but hey, that’s me.” Hey, we’ll take it. Because within that quirkiness lies a radiance of soul that veils your imperfections and renders them irrelevant. No, God love you, you are by no means perfect by the worlds’ standards. You lack a certain type of ego-driven vanity which enables you to make statements like the above. It also enables you to be totally “in the world,” but not “of the world,” in a way that is nothing short of noble.
So, goodbye, sweet Prince. Have a wonderful time at home with your family and friends. Merry Christmas, Happy Birthday, Happy New Year! You have blessed with your voice and sweet spirit, the lives of so many with so much joy. May God return that same joy to you, and all you love, without measure, forever.
God be with you, till we meet again.
Love,
Your fans at The Voice

“Dance like no one is watching. Sing like no one is listening. Love like you’ve never been hurt and live like it’s heaven on Earth.”
