Richfield
“There he is!”  I was checking my phone for any David news as we were going into Richfield.  “He’s on the same highway that we are on, Dayzee!”  Sure enough after winding around a few roads, there were the same signs that were in David’s Instagram!  We are here!  Later there was more excitement to see him walk out on that stage with his big smile and waving.  Oh, the yelling, clapping, standing ovations; he had them all!

Like I’ve said, the whole world needs to hear that voice. It’s just something special to see him live…he has that “light”.  Got to meet up with Shawna and Patty again.  Hadn’t seen them since Motab. The big surprise was when Nathan came out and sang “The Prayer” with David.

OMGosh, I never, ever thought I would get to see that live.  At the end, David had a little girl come on stage while he sang “Glorious”.

When leaving, I saw a bottle on stage and went down and got it with the help of a stage hand.  Thought I had a David bottle, but when I watched the video of them singing “The Prayer”, it shows Nathan taking a drink and sitting the bottle right down where I picked it up…so…it was Nathan’s water bottle and not David’s!  ;)  well, he’s second best!  LOL

On to Queen’s Creek – 1st concert
There was an early dinner at Olive Garden before the concert where we met up with Kalei and her bunch.  It was Linda’s birthday and she was surprised to find out that she was going to meet David in person!  Awesome!

Dayzee’s and my seats were apart and I got to sit between some “fuddy duddies”!  *~X( at wits' end  No arm swinging with lighted cameras, no singing and swaying!  They might not have been in the swing of things, but it didn’t stop me!  haha.  The 3 on my right left when David left the stage.

What?  no encore??  How can anyone leave with David on fire!!!  But of course there was one!  It left me on a high all night!  He was so good!
 IMG_0095 credit: Jan
Queen’s Creek – 2nd concert
Gwen couldn’t make it, so Dayzee sat in her seat and Dayzee’s seat went to Victoria!  I sat next to SuzyQ and it was good to see her again.  Got to meet Pat and Sweetonda, Tawna and hubby, DJAfan and more.

After hearing “7 Years” live 3 times in a row, I give in!  David puts his all in that song, he is incredible! There is nothing like David feeding off the electric frenzy of the fans.  I felt like a teenager again!  It is with love that I listened to his little speeches before his songs that gives messages on him staying in music.  Don’t ever quit singing David!

It was the night before Easter and I was hoping David would sing something special and he did!  It was beautiful.

credit 8throwcenter

It was so new to him he read the words from his phone and sang it perfectly.  Feeling it in his heart, he was breaking down at the end as we all were.  Thank you David, you never let us down!

What a joyous trip! It wouldn’t have happened without the super nice Dayzee doing all the driving!  😀

Dayzee’s recap from Arizona: “I Love David Archuleta Fans!”

Posted by bebereader on Wednesday, March 30, 2016

The first night in Arizona the gathering of fans began early at the Olive Garden. So great to have a group of people who don’t cut you off when you mention David. Haha

Screen-Shot-2016-03-25-at-9_05_59-PMAll photos property of Dayzee unless stated otherwise

Jan and I reached the venue an hour early and there were fans milling around everywhere. Met old friends, some we had not seen since the last time we were in Arizona (home of the infamous chair scooting incident). Some we had met at Tuacahn last fall. Seeing those familiar faces is just what you need when your tummy is full of butterflies and you are so high you can’t keep track of your tickets and keys.

doorDavid’s pic on the door

The door of the venue was covered with a pic of David and fans were standing in line to take photos of themselves with that David pic. Jan said when the line slowed down she would take a picture of that herself, but the line was constant and even longer after the performance.

Inside, Jan and I separated as we had bought our tickets separately. I was by myself but had a ticket for front row center. Yayy! As I found my seat a girl jumped up from the adjoining chair and said “I hope we don’t make too much noise for you.” LOL. As I got to know this new fan I realized she was pretty much the opposite of me. She was 18, I was 81. It was her first time to see David, it was about my fifty-first. We no doubt had little in common, yet here we were, side by side at a David concert.

I showed her some videos on my phone from the Richfield concert. She was quite excited at the thought of getting her own videos and promptly started taping. About half way through the show I told her I would have to stop because my phone was almost dead. She said, “No problem” and hooked me up with a power plug she had found right on the edge of the stage. What??? Arizona not only let you take all the video you wanted, but helped you power up. I love Arizona.

My new friend Nicole was absolutely delightful. She helped me get through “Everybody Hurts” and I helped her through “7 Years”. You know, sometimes David is just overwhelming and you need a hand to clasp or a thigh to squeeze.

As soon as David left the stage I helped Nicole jump up and she gathered set lists and water bottles, handing them to fans standing at the edge of the stage. Everyone loved her. She scampered from the stage, barely escaping the grasp of the stage police.

IMG_0131According the David, the way we will be watching him drink water now since he has decided it’s weird to have 700 people watch you drink

IMG_4733It makes me happy every time I open the refrigerator door.

Nicole came and gave me a hug the second night. Perhaps we will meet again when David visits Arizona. I will not worry about her because I know she has the very best role model. Makes me happy to know there are new young fans. How long can we old ladies carry this banner anyway?

I had not met SuzieQ before, but was fortunate to be sitting next to her on the second night. I loved her for the respect and enthusiastic admiration she showed David.

Remember all those one-armed hugs we used to get from David? They have evolved into two-armed hugs of appreciation that are shared by fans of all ages everywhere!

“Riding on Clouds” – Dayzee’s recap of David Archuleta’s concerts in Layton

Posted by bebereader on Sunday, September 27, 2015

The long drought was finally over! The two shows in Idaho Falls had been the stuff we dreamed about for years. Our golden voice was back. We were riding on clouds. Saturday night our euphoria suddenly ended in Layton. I was second row center and could see David’s lips moving and heard no sound. A short “erk”, a small “ech”. People behind me were saying there was something wrong with the sound, but I could see it was something wrong with David. After a valiant effort to sing several songs, David left the stage.

He came back with Kirt Bateman, Executive Director of Davis Arts Council to announce David would return with a Christmas gift for us. Mr. Bateman’s arm was around David while on the stage. How many times have we seen that picture? David draws hugs.

shelley5photo credit Shelley#2015

You have probably read Kirt’s email to us, but I want to repeat it here:

“Mr. Archuleta with a fever, no voice, aching body, and virtually no energy, went out on that stage in front of 1700 expectant people on Saturday and, like the true star he is, gave them all that he had! Why? …. he’s a man of integrity and wanted to give you the show he had planned and rehearsed for you.”

David talking the words to MKOP was the most memorable part of that evening for me. He said he did not want to spoil the words with his imperfect singing voice. It was the most moving rendition of that song I have heard.

pamela pike mkopcredit Pamela Pike

Monday night was better, but all singing done low-key and in a lower key. No high notes. Few glory notes, though he often made the effort. At least he was singing. Love and respect were tangible.

Both nights David’s band led by Kendra did a number without David to give him a rest. They were great.

Loved the brother/sister act. David ran off the stage mid-concert. We were so worried. A minute later he returned with sister in tow. He announced that she was going to speak for him so he could save his voice to sing. Pretty obvious that she had not volunteered for this assignment. A little hemming and hawing and then she said she only found out about this an hour ago.

pampike3credit Pamela Pike

David got in her face “Excuses, excuses” he said as a brother would. Jazzy grudgingly began (as a sister would) and soon became more comfortable and smiley.  Later she returned and did a second reading of his notes.

Towards the end David said he had not had enough time to write any more thoughts out for Jazzy to read. He told us he wanted to talk to us and tell us things but he also wanted to sing for us. There was such anguish in his voice, on his face. A little leaking around the eyes.

I did not expect him to come out for an encore. He seemed completely spent. But there he was. Still gamely giving his all for us. His mother and her sister were lovely and covered much of the singing on the encore.

My companion that night had never seen David in person. I told her she would love him. And she did. Her favorite song was Glorious and I never expected David to last long enough to sing that last song.

Could not have asked for more.

“Unplugged and Un-wired” – Tawna’s Recap of David Archuleta’s Idaho Falls concert – Second Night

Posted by bebereader on Sunday, September 20, 2015

balconyAll pictures credit Shelley #DA2015

It was an awesome Friday night concert. I love the man that David brought back to the stage! To think that he almost didn’t is frightening.

He was so delightfully chatty and witty. He had some of the front row girls almost dead when he gave them a full-face, right-in-your-face, smile and point of his finger. On one song that he was introducing (I don’t remember just which one), someone from the side yelled “I love you, David!” and he chuckled, smiled that impish grin, looked over their way pointed his finger, twirled it, and in a melodic speaking voice sang something to the effect… “you say you love me and you don’t even know me”, he smiled bigger and continued on with his monologue. It was hilarious!!

CPUl3ulUsAExXd8It was so good to see him ‘unplugged and un-wired’. All of the band members had monitors, but David didn’t…. I guess it’s up to them to figure out what he needs and not him figuring out how to make his sound work with theirs. His hands were beautiful instruments in helping to create the feelings that he wanted us to feel with his songs. It was almost like they were pulling these emotions from his heart and spreading them to us. They are very graceful and fluid.

His new song “Numb”! Holy Toledo! If these words don’t explain to people where David has been, then nothing will. That includes the venue usher lady that was standing in the way as the crowd was trying to leave and asking me if I had ever seen him before… ME: “Oh yes! Several times.” LADY: “I wonder what took him so long to come back to the stage?” ME: silence, no words to say, dumbstruck…. then quickly as I moved on… “He just told us he needed to find himself, get himself to where he needed to be and now he’s there and he’s back!” I wanted to ask her if she hadn’t been listening to what he had been saying all night, but let it go. She must have been one of the gestapo watching for cameras and not paying attention to David. My husband even commented about how rude they actually were in the way they were treating people. It was very distracting to have them hovering like ravens in the corners and on the sides. But, they were just doing their jobs, I guess. You had to be there to really appreciate what I’m saying! I wish these venues would realize that these YouTube videos are an important part of promotion for these performers. If the venue were to come out with a professional video to sell, they would make a fortune in sales.

CPUoMzZUYAAkkBS

I think I could die now and all would be well. I have heard David sing ‘Everybody Hurts’ live and in concert. I’ve heard that glory note at the end sung in the flesh. I shall never want again!! I wish we had Friday’s version. To me it was just a little more ‘there’ (if you know what I mean) than the first night. I may have had some tears leaking from my eyes.

Oh, and the dance steps! The backward staccato steps! The backward slide steps! The foot pounding! The hunker-down! The hand pounding his heart! The ripping-his-heart-out-and-handing-it-to-us-in-an-open-hand gesture! The full of life and light smiles! The rambling and waving of hands — yes, he still does that! David is back!!

There were some emotions at one point as he referred to his mission. In my opinion, had David not gone on the mission, we would have had a different David singing to us. The man we have now is a performer and song-writer who will bless us in a much stronger way than he could have before. He is giving us his ‘real’ heart and soul because he has found and developed what is real to him.

It was so fun to see again some ‘old fan friends’ and to meet some that I’ve never met before! Archies Rock!!!!

Special thanks to Shelley for her fabulous photographs!

David Archuleta ~ “Don’t Run Away” Live

Posted by djafan on Monday, April 13, 2015

dont run away 1

All drawings by Kylie Malchus

While David was away on his mission he released two albums; “No Matter How Far” and “Begin”.  From “No Matter How Far”, we have heard Wait, Everything And More, and Love Don’t Hate performed  live.  I’ve always wondered if I would have the opportunity someday to hear some of the others live too.  For example, Nothing Else Better To Do, Tell Me, Heart Falls Out, Notice Me and Don’t Run Away.  Don’t Run Away being at the top of my list.

dont run away

What a surprise when he performed it live at Rootstech.  David’s simple introduction, “I’ve never sung this next song live before, but here we go”.  I recognized it immediately and just couldn’t believe it.  It’s the performance I watch the most from that day.  It’s David singing from his soul, the passion and cry in his voice reaching out to all.

A music video was also released while he was away which had a million views.  A simple but beautiful sequence of drawings by Kylie Malchus fit the song perfectly.  I was saddened that she wasn’t able to get into the conference hall at Rootstech especially since little did she know that “Don’t Run Away” was going to be performed live.

 It currently has 943,801  views!

Don’t Run Away Lyrics

When something’s wrong
And too much to handle
Try to find some peace of mind
Let it go.
Wait a minute, you know this road
It’s gonna leave you on overload, yeah
‘Cause somebody cares, yeah

I can see you hurting (turn around)
I will be right there
Don’t run away, don’t run away, don’t run away
When I reach out to you, look around
I will be right here
Don’t run away, don’t run away, don’t run away
Tonight

Don’t make a sound
I’ll be your voice
You don’t need to be afraid
Anymore
I’ll shine a light out in the dark
Guide you here no matter how far

Oh, yeah
‘Cause somebody cares, oh yeah

I can see you hurting, (turn around)
I will be right there
Don’t run away, don’t run away, don’t run away
When I reach out to you, look around
I will be right here
Don’t run away, don’t run away, don’t run away

Open up, let it all out tonight, yeah
Open up, and everything will be alright

I can see you hurting, (turn around)
I will be right there
Don’t run away, don’t run away, don’t run away
When I reach out to you, look around
I will be right here
Don’t run away, don’t run away, don’t run away

Turn around, don’t run away, don’t run away
I will be right here, oh
Tonight, tonight

Betty’s Roots Tech Recap ~ David Archuleta

Posted by bebereader on Sunday, March 1, 2015

rootstech4 (1)Screencaps by Abrra from 8throwcenter’s videos

I had a delightful lunch on Saturday, Feb 21, with Dayzee and Tawna21. I finally got brave enough to “get acquainted”. For any of you who haven’t met them, they are such a delight to spend time with. That experience has emboldened me to take another step and say a few words about David’s Roots Tech appearance. I have relied on second hand news from others so many times that I shouldn’t hesitate to do my own recap. From having been there, I know how much it means to his fandom to get any little drop of news.

I felt the excitement in the air….it was electric. Something BIG was going down here today! I told my friend, she could go do anything she cared to do. All I needed was to find Hall D and sit down. I was content to stay there til his 5:30 show now that I had my bright green wrist band. (I guess I became one of those “campers” I read about later).

What a delightful day! About every hour there was a new program. Each one planned to inspire and motivate us to want to search for our families. I enjoyed it so much that I decided I’d come again next year and try to take classes all three days. If any of you have ever attended an “Education Week”, it was the same sort of rich experience. If I’m physically able, I still plan to come again for all of it, although it will be like David’s “overload”. I always end up with a headache from cramming so much information into my noggin’.

I’m not good at guesstimating, but to me the room was like 4 football fields in width and 2 football fields in depth—I mean HUGE! They had at least eight jumbotrons that enlarged the action on stage and it seemed to us that we’d see just as good or better by finding one of those big things to watch it on. So we moved to the South section and were very satisfied with our decision. We missed out on much of the confusion over the center seating and fortunately stayed within the room. I understand many were turned away. That was sad to hear. When David is concerned, they should never overbook the room. Can’t help but hurt for those who may have traveled just for this and were unable to get in.

rootstech2So, the Studio C came on stage and performed their little skit about talking to their grandmother about her history. She had lived a colorful life. When they discovered funny illegal activities she had been involved in, they quickly brought the interview with her to a close. Short and Sweet. From the applause we could tell there were many young fans there just for Studio C. I must admit the applause for Studio C was greater than for David at one point. You had to be young to appreciate them I think.

Studio C began some lip syncing and clowning around, then BANG out of nowhere came this…this…CRAZY person….I was lost. I’ve never heard “Jump” before. The character looked something like David, but then again it wasn’t him, was it? I had to ask my friend if THAT was David! She smiled and said yes. Then I understood the lip syncing and all fell into place. As I marveled at this character and what he was doing that I’ve never seen or heard David do, I thought to myself, “And this is someone who doesn’t like to be the center of attention”????? Sure fooled me.

I struggle some as David talks. I so want to help him succeed and find the right words to fit the occasion. But I’ve realized his unique use of the English language helps identify him and sets him apart. He searched for truth in every word he uttered as he visited with us about his music.

rootstech 1First there was the video, “Nunca Pense” BEAUTIFUL. I can feel and hear the rumble of those drums that struck to my very core. Even now I yearn for them to pound louder and louder. So haunting. The actors were outstanding. The music, the facial expressions that had been “handed down” from generation to generation—like “Go ahead, pick up that guitar and play with me”. The little chin nudges a couple of times to encourage the person to “Continue trying, don’t give up”. “Good Job”. I’ve thought it would be wonderful and justifiable for David to receive some Latino recognition for his work on it, but if it does nothing but touch the hearts of children and turns them to their fathers it will have accomplished what it was meant to do.

“Glorious”, is just glorious. All of the melodies come together to create a symphony. (A similar theme as in “Nunca Pense” as each progenitor brings his piece to the puzzle, the symphony is completed).  “Mirror”, what an undertaking. So many words at such a pace. David did a masterful job. He always owns the covers he undertakes. We will all have a copy of that song in our own collections one day, too. “Don’t Run Away” finally sounds complete now that he has picked it up again. (It was good to see Kendra there on the piano and as a back up singer).

The live performance of the song “Nunca Pense” was the frosting on the cake and on the week of family searching. I have searched for my family for years. I work a bit, then let it rest, then pick it up again. Each time I begin again, new pieces of the puzzle fall into place. I have relatives dead and gone who help me in my search. I believe it to be true. They are as much a part of me as my own mother and father and I love learning about them. That’s what David’s music was about and what Roots Tech was about and “Ohhhhhhhh, It’s Glorious”!

Thanks to everyone on The Voice for your friendship and for loving and sharing David.

I’m still in awe of the way “Don’t Run Away” smashed it’s way to the top of my listening list since Sat. night. I looked at the lady that was standing next to me taking pictures also and just dropped my jaw! It was a ‘Wow, what is happening here!’ moment. I just stood and shivered when he ended it.

I was so intent in watching his moves with ‘Nunca Pense’ that I really didn’t realize when he ended. 🙂 My Gosh! He put the moves, the swag, and miles on that stage. He hasn’t forgotten how to work the crowd. A little more stage time and he’ll have that fire in his soul, and feet, burning up the stage in a 3-alarm fire!!!

When he did a perfect slide into the high notes on “Mirrors” it was chilling (the good, blueberry ice kind). That’s a fast moving song with a lot of words to fit into a single breath, but he mastered it. He just smooth moved his way into ownership of this song.

And, of course, ‘Glorious’ was glorious. Stephanie Mabey had no idea, when she wrote the song, that somewhere in the future a man would come along and make her song come alive. It’s happened, and we are all witnesses of it!

David had the crowd in control and barely breathing. This man, in finding himself, has created a new crowd of followers. There was no screaming and hollering during his songs, afterwards was a different story. It’s what we’ve dreamed of, and discussed in the past. Let us hear ‘the voice’ and feel the music while he is performing. In slowing himself down and nurturing his needs and his talent, he’s gained the real respect that he deserves. I just can’t get over what I witnessed Saturday night. It was so beautiful.

Yeah, it was worth the squished in the crowd moments…. you have to understand where I’m coming from on that. At my tallest, I’m under 5 foot tall, and large, fast moving, crowds can cause some real apprehensive moments. There are times when I just won’t deal with it. But, then there are those times when I just suck it up and go with the flow. Saturday was one of those times. 😀
