Been thinking….
I’m so glad that I was able to witness David through his ‘growing’ years. The time when he was hanging onto the mic stand for dear life in his baggy pants and T-shirts. Oh, and the scarves.

Then he became like a spring, bouncing around the stage carrying the mic with him, killing us with flirty eyebrows, and wearing better fitting jeans and different kinds of shirts (there was that awesome pink shirt and still the scarves) and had the amazing hair styles.

But now, I’m perfectly content with who David is. What he has become. Still the handsome, humorous and witty David that we’ve been watching since 2007, but a man who is comfortable with who he is. A man who isn’t afraid to tell the world what he’s thinking and how he got to the point he is at now. A performer who has developed more fashion sense in the clothes he wears on stage (we’ve still seen some scarves 🙂 ) and yet isn’t afraid to wear the most wrinkled shirt in the closet around town, if that’s the mood he’s in.

I do miss the amazing hair, but I also don’t mind the toned down look — he wears it well. With the head of hair he owns… wow! I love when he uses the flirty eyebrows and points those long fingers, and dances little snippets of fancy footwork here and there. No bouncing around, but some seriously great stage presence (he owns it).

I’m just happy to be a fan of the most beautiful and versatile Voice on the planet. And, of the most beautiful, inside and out, honest man that owns that Voice. The Voice that is definitely a gift and a treasure. The Voice that David uses to make others happy and peaceful.

was all set to periscope from a splendid view, fifth row center but I choked. To those who can maintain their composure in order to capture the moment, whether on Periscope or video, I thank you. Without you, I don’t know what we’d do, or I’d do. The videos create the buzz and excitement that makes us want to go see for ourselves. And even then, they can’t give you the magic of being there.
very much in-control performer, one who commands his stage, his band, and his very loving audience. Every song, every word, every movement, salsa and other were used by David to give much more than a concert; it was an experience. He engaged all of our senses with his words, humor, song, hums, smiles, and passion. Sharing of himself with us like never before; he was both charming and sassy at the same time. A well-planned out show where he wore his feelings on his sleeve, trusting them with us. Reciprocally, we let him know we have his back, yelling “Nooooo!” when he said he “didn’t think he wanted to do this anymore”. We yelled, sang, danced, swayed, and clapped to every song.
Though he expressed his surprise at the fact that we all were there to see him after so many years, his humility is intact. Some fans want to know if David appreciates us. It was very evident in his expressions, in his satisfied look out to all, thanking us all repeatedly. But most of all was his eye contact, the look of recognition, the little waves as he looked to the right, to the left, high and low, visibly absorbing it all with a look of appreciation you could feel. Watching the you tubes is not enough to catch the banter, in between songs, where he talks to the audience.
nd night I sat next to the infamous Gladys. After communicating with her in Unplugged, Skype and here on The Voice for so many years, it was extremely gratifying to see her in person. Gladys, if you remember was our sole fan friend from Argentina who was close enough to visit David at various events open to the public when he was on his mission in Chile. She selflessly reported to us that David was doing well. From a fans’ eyes we believed it. She was known for giving boxes of Toblerone chocolates to the missionaries at these events. Well, guess what? We had the luck of running into Lupe, David’s mom, as Gladys and I were leaving the theater. Lupe was gracious enough to introduce herself to my Mom after she heard her ask me if that was really David’s mom. She thanked us for traveling, she couldn’t believe how many people traveled to see David. I called after Gladys and I introduced her to Lupe and the rest is typical Gla
dys. I just love her. Gladys explained to Lupe that she came from Argentina and that she had chocolates for David she brought with her. Lupe’s expression was epic, as Gladys pulled out two huge trademark Toblerone’s from her large purse, a rolled up long gift bag, and a card. And right there as Lupe watched she stuffed all into the bag and handed to her asking her if she could please give to David. Lupe told her she was going to go straight to David and give to him and that he was going to be really happy because he loves chocolate. This really happened! I witnessed it! LOL
my daughter was baffled. Tongue in cheek, I told them that this is what David was trying to do in these shows. They disagreed with me; the whole carload. My almost 19 year-old granddaughter said “One sharing their joys and experiences in such a setting doesn’t translate to trying to convert.” My daughter had the same reaction. She never felt preached to. The reason I’m sharing this is because of the criticisms I read, which are unfounded in my opinion.

As fans of the greatest singer in the land, who truly is “The Voice”, this Thanksgiving finds us with a lot to be thankful for. Although he never left our hearts, David is now back in his game and recently, lucky fans had the chance to see him in concert! David has brought so much joy into our lives. As if that wasn’t enough, he inspires us to be the best version of ourselves, to live life to the fullest and to fulfill our dreams.
On Thanksgiving Day, as we get together with family and friends, while enjoying a delicious meal, like at the first Thanksgiving when Native Americans and New Englanders came together to share a meal, we can count our blessings, big and small.

But I just couldn’t sleep.
I tried counting backwards,

The leftovers beckoned,
The dark meat and white.
But I fought the temptation,
With all of my might.
Tossing and turning,

The thought of a snack

So I raced to the kitchen,
Flung open the door,
And gazed at the fridge,
Full of goodies galore.
I gobbled up turkey,
And buttered potatoes,
Pickles and carrots,
Beans and tomatoes.
I felt myself swelling,
So plump and so round.

I rose off the ground.
I crashed through the ceiling,
Floating into the sky,
With a mouthful of pudding,
And a handful of pie.
But I managed to yell
As I soared past the trees
Happy eating to all,
Pass the cranberries, please!!

I have been working pretty steadily with few breaks. Last Friday afternoon I raised my head from in front of my computer, looked around the room and said to myself: I could be at the conference center tonight listening to Spanish music and DA! This could happen!
Of course I had no tickets. I have not been on the receiving end of tickets for events at the conference center for quite a while. There are so many offered and so many apply, that the odds are just not really good. But I have always (so far!) been able to attend if I was willing to go standby. I was. Of course!
So I dressed warmly, got a bottle of water, climbed in the car and headed out to begin the 30 minute drive to SLC. It was just after 5 pm. I hoped to get there by 5.30 or so and be at the head of the standby line which begins to form (officially) at 6.00 pm. For Christmas concerts, I have seen the line 50 – 80 people long by 6.10 and I wanted to avoid being at the back. I had heard that there was a big turnout for the Thursday dress rehearsal.
I made good time and arrived at Temple Square, by the Tabernacle, where the line usually begins. There was no one there. I realized I had not eaten. Small item overlooked. It was cold. I had at least a 2-hour wait. None of my sons could come with me – too short notice. I did end up eating— I wandered across the street to the big mall and got (ha, ha!) a frozen yogurt with bananas and blueberries. And a spoon. I don’t think I need to tell you how cold I got eating frozen yogurt while standing in front of the Tabernacle waiting for the line to begin.
Dayzee would have been proud. I was at the front of the line.
It turned out that the attendance was less on Friday than it had been on Thursday and although the wait was long, there was no trouble getting in. I met some very lovely people while waiting and we ended up sitting right in the center balcony three rows back. Great seats!
I had heard from the ushers that the attendance on Thursday was upwards of 40,000 people. The conference center holds about 21,000 seats. They put the rest of the people into the Tabernacle which they had fixed up with large screens and everything. It looked like every effort was taken to support whoever wanted to come, but I wanted to be in the same building. Of course.
There was a bit of drama because the ushers did not want us waiting in the cold. So they sat us in the Tabernacle in the order we came. One lady kept saying how this was bad and how this had happened to her more than once and that she had missed out on concerts because of this. Nope. Not. Going. To. Happen. I felt certain that I was there to hear DA and all the music and that was how it was going to be.
The concert was more than I had ever imagined. They have held these Spanish language concerts before, but I had never gone because of the way they were advertised so I did not know what to expect. I felt somehow that I would be taking the place of someone else who was “officially” Latin. But this time the advertising said that all were welcome. That was good enough for me.
Oh my! The music was amazing! The bands, the musicians, were wonderful. I loved the little older man who played what looked like a harp but sounded more like a xylophone. Everyone was clapping, moving, joining in however they could. I lost track of how many countries were represented, each with their own music, dance, traditions, etc.
I loved watching the people around me. Almost all the people there seemed to be families sitting together, grandparents on down to young children. The Dad’s, kids, and all would inch forward until they were on the edge of their seats, bouncing, swaying, and leaning towards one another like they were all trees enjoying the same spot of sun.
I had a good view of the family right in front of me. The Dad got so excited that he spent almost the entire program on the edge of his seat. The times he sat back? When DA sang. I thought at first – maybe he doesn’t know or like DA? But then I saw how he clapped. For DA it was solid, firm, appreciative in admiration. It was just that DA’s songs were more laid back than almost all the rest of the program.
When the different countries were represented, you would hear calls and whistles from different parts of the audience, like they were cheering for their home team or for some participants that they knew. The people I sat by were there to support friends who were playing in the orchestra. I don’t think they knew much about DA.
But by the end of the program, they did. Every time he came on stage he filled the center. It is not him, himself. It is like this globe of love, kindness, energy, anticipation, a conduit from another place, that slowly invites all around to join in “his” space. We are gently gathered, released, enlivened, restored, comforted and…. sang to!
It was an absolutely lovely evening. I am so thankful for all the hard work, love, and talent that went into the whole program. Where can one get that sort of experience for free?
DA, thank you so much for just being you. For being willing to be more than you are. For being willing to share, learn, serve, and….. sing your blessed little heart out.
After listening to him sing “His Hands” in Spanish, I could not ask for a better ending for my long week.

Nathan Pacheco is an American-Brazilian classically trained tenor born in Virginia with a passion for reaching out and uplifting people through music. In addition to being a television and recording artist, Nathan completed his debut solo tour in 2013. He has been featured globally in live performances, including touring the United States, Canada, and Mexico with Yanni; performing with Latin singing sensation Olga Tañon; touring England, Scotland, and Wales with Katherine Jenkins and the National Symphony Orchestra; performing for Prince Charles in conjunction with the British Forces Foundation and the USO; and performing with the San Diego Symphony. In 2012, PBS aired the special “Introducing Nathan Pacheco” and “Christmas with Nathan Pacheco”. He has been featured on multiple Yanni recordings, including the latest album Inspirato, where Nathan was featured alongside Plácido Domingo, Renée Fleming, and other opera stars.
Nathan’s debut album was released in 2012 by Disney Pearl. Shortly after release, it registered as one of the top ordered classical/crossover discs on iTunes and Amazon. His second album Nathan Pacheco II was released earlier this year.

“Este concierto probablemente va a ser el más grande que he hecho en mi vida, estoy empezando una nueva etapa de mi carrera y en este concierto estoy cantando muchas canciones nuevas que será la primera vez que son cantadas”, me dijo el tenor, quien hizo su debut mundial en el 2012, durante un especial presentado por la cadena pública PBS, y ha colaborado con artistas como Yanni.
“Son arreglos nuevos de un compositor y productor increíble y voy a cantar con una orquesta grande, así como con mi banda principal de músicos y vamos a tener un coro, así como las luces… estamos planificando todo para que sea un concierto enorme”.
I had the great pleasure of talking on the phone with Nathan Pacheco, who is going to perform this Friday October 16 in the Miami’s Adrianne Arsht Center, in a concert that represents an important leap forward in his career.
“This concert is probably going to be the largest I have done in my life, I’m starting a new stage in my career and in this concert I’m singing many new songs for the very first time”, the tenor, who made his world debut in 2012, during an special program presented by public network PBS, and who has worked with artists like Yanni.
“There are new arrangements from an incredible composer and producer, and I’m going to sing with a big orchestra, as well as with my main music band, and also we are going to have a choir… We are planning everything so it’s going to be a huge concert.”

Nathan, who was born in the United States and is of Brazilian descent, not only has the great gift of being able to communicate universally with his music, but he speaks and composes in four different languages, among them Spanish, in which we had our conversation.
“I love different cultures and one of the reasons why I like to learn different languages is because I can feel connected with people of each culture, nd this is the reason why I love to sing, because a we know, music has no borders, and through the music we can feel connected”.
Mi principal duda era ¿por qué escoger Miami para un concierto tan importante cuando no se trata precisamente de un género latino? A lo cual me respondió lo siguiente:
“Yo creo que Miami es la puerta para todo el mundo. Hay tanta gente de culturas diferentes en Miami y queremos lanzar una gira mundial y creemos que Miami es la ciudad perfecta para hacer eso”, me contestó.
“Estoy más que emocionado por este concierto porque va a a ser algo muy especial para mí en donde puedo cantar canciones en español, portugués, italiano, inglés y vamos a grabar todo y quizás poner en la televisión en el futuro”.
Y vaya, aunque yo no sé si podré asistir, pues mi vida por el momento está complicadísima entre el trabajo y mi familia, si estás en Miami y puedes darte una escapada al Adrianne Arsht Center creo que no te va a decepcionar, nada más ve los videos que aquí te dejo .

My main question was why choosing Miami for such an important concert when it is not precisely for a Latin genre? And he answered me the following:
“I think that Miami is the gateway to the world. There are so many people from many different cultures and we want to launch a World Tour, so we think Miami is the perfect city tho do this,” he told me.
“I am more than excited for this concert, because it is going to be something very special for me, in which I can sing in Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and English, and we are going to tape everything, and maybe broadcast it some day”.
And well, even though I don’t know if I’m going to be able to go, since my life at this moment is beyond complicated between family and work, if you are in Miami and you can escape to the Adrianne Arsht Center, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

It was a perfect Thursday night at The Marriott Center for the BYU Spectacular. The weather was just right. The sun was setting with a beautiful view from the large wrap-around windows. I arrived early. Really early.
David started with “Crush”, establishing who he was in case anyone had forgotten. Then it was “Imagine”. His voice was so pure and sweet. The entire audience was motionless. I found I was holding my breath. No one wanted to intrude in any way on the magic of that song. Afterward David said that song was special to him because when he sang it on American Idol, it taught him you could connect with the audience without bouncing around and waving your arms.
The Women’s Chorus sang two songs, then David was to join them in the third. From my seat I could see David standing in the shadows, separating himself from the applause for the chorus. When he took the stage, the applause increased and he turned and acknowledged the chorus, as if they were the star. “Nunca Pense” was the song he sang with them and he showed off his foot work. My head was constantly bobbing. If I looked down I could see the whole David, footwork and all, but if I looked up to the jumbo screen I could see his immense face full of emotion.
Then came some singing and dancing with no David. I did see the dancers. When David left the stage it was easy to find them.
When he sang “Parachutes and Airplanes” the audience lit a thousand cell phones for David, some stood, some danced. It was sort of like “Zero Gravity” used to be without the frenzy.

“Everybody Hurts” began with David at the back behind the dancers. Then he wandered among them and finished at the front. Remember the picture of David where he held all the ribbons attached to our hearts?

It was like he grabbed those ribbons and ripped our hearts right out of us. From the beginning to end he wrang our hearts and thoughts and emotions. He walked off the stage and left us stunned and gasping. One of his best performances ever.
