David Archuleta Going Overseas! “An Evening Of Music, Comedy, and Motivational Theater”

Posted by djafan on Wednesday, July 2, 2014

VLOG!!!

Idk why I couldn’t get the video up, but my little sister helped me. I know it’s not the most convenient place to do a video, but oh well.

Thanks to all of those who tuned into the Face2Face Chat last week! if you missed it go here:

English: youth.lds.org
Español: jovenes.lds.org

Going to Costa Rica this weekend for a project that you’ll hear more about later, and then off to the Middle East and Africa to go see the Airforce Troops and do some singing for them. 🙂

Pardon the razor burns if you notice them. I had a bad shave this morning and wasn’t able to get the job done properly.

Utahns To Entertain Troops Overseas in “An Evening of Music, Comedy and Motivational Theater”

Dan Clark speaks to the troops all over the world and has performed in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait and Africa.
This time he was invited by Armed Forces Entertainment to put together a 90 minute show. So he invited David Archuleta and Jason Hewlett to join him in “An Evening of Music, Comedy and Motivational Theater.”

The format is a variety show where Dan shares one of his world famous stories from the Chicken Soup For The Soul book series, that sets up a song performed by David Archuleta, followed by comic relief in a five minute bit by Jason Hewlett.

There are messages throughout, dealing with suicide prevention, divorce prevention and resiliency issues.

David’s song list includes “Bridge Over Troubled Water”, “Take Me Home” and John Lennon’s “Imagine”, mixed with his own pop hit “Crush” and more!

Jason Hewlett pulls the funniest faces and impersonates Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Adell, among others.

They leave on July 8 and perform for our combat troops 18 times on bases throughout Afghanistan, and in Kuwait, Bahrain, Ethiopia and Djbouti.

The Artist and His Fans

Posted by djafan on Friday, May 16, 2014

da555

“Monsters. Madmen. Mouth-breathing miscreants. Mindless masters of mayhem who should not be forgiven despite knowing not what they do. They’ve created thornless roses.”

I love reading Don Engebretson’s blog, The Renegade Gardner. His essay here (scroll down to Black Spot Award, Worst New Garden Product: Thornless Roses) is especially good; so much truth in so few words. He goes on to say,
“It’s the principle of the thing…LIFE HAS THORNS, an eternal and infinite principle perfectly espoused by nature and appreciated best by gardeners. You don’t mess with the material manifestation of universal truths,” and follows this with a quote by Abraham Lincoln, “We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses.”

I am aware that some fans are frustrated right now. They are uncertain where David is headed musically and personally. I’d be willing to wager he shares some of those concerns too. He has to go from a selfless life that, “has nothing to do with him,” to a world that again wants to celebrate him. That person he brought back is not going to simply, like Athena, spring fully formed and clothed out of the head of Zeus, but must be created.

The thing I am hearing from fans is that they don’t care about getting music right away; they know that takes time. They want to know if the love for his fans is still there.

Ah, there it is. The thorn that every rose must have. Somewhere between the rose and the thorn, the musical genius he is and the imperfect being we all are, is the man he brought back.

What I came to realize early on (for there is no other explanation) was that I and many of his fans had somehow been caught up in his gravity, our days revolving round and round, held not just by the voice but by a magnetism and star power beyond anything I had ever felt. And when I listen to the Sara Bareilles song, Satellite, we are all the “perfect little satellites spinning round and round this broken earthly light.”

We are all broken. And he will never be nor should be that Someone who loves us from above. But somebody out there still loves us from the ground.

David Archuleta ~ I’ll Never Go Far Away From You

I wasn’t on my laptop the night I watched David’s “Before the Cut” vlog. I was on my iTouch and was waiting for it to load because our internet signal at night is usually so weak. When I finally watched it, I felt a sadness engulf me once more. I thought all this time that I was doing okay knowing less and less about what’s happening in the Archuworld. But even if that vlog was less than half a minute long, it made me ponder on how unhappy I had been not being able to write about David, and that I missed drawing his angelic face. I paused the video at certain spots to find his nice angles. Then accidentally the video froze on his profile which was very similar to the last one I drew of him.

DA Profile B4DCut Pic(11)

It was uncanny that it froze there because I didn’t even notice that he had such an angle when I watched it previously. Normally, when the video is paused, the image would become dark after some time as is the usual case when the iTouch goes on idle mode, then you have to touch the screen to re-activate it to go back to the previous image. This time, the image of his profile JUST STAYED ON! The screen never went dark, and no matter what I pressed on the image to make the video play again or to stop it, the image of his profile stayed there, unrelenting. I waited for the screen to go dark after several minutes, but it didn’t! My iTouch hanged, but was it coincidence that it chose to freeze on that significant pose? I then realized what was happening. I was being given a sign not to give up on David, despite everything that happened during the past month, and despite all the hurt I was going thru. I need to fulfill my promise to him that I’ll be here for him during his absence and especially when he comes back in 2014. I intend to do so but quietly. However, that image staying there for so long made me feel the message so strongly that I wept and sobbed, cupping my face with both hands in the privacy of my room. Thank God my husband and kids were downstairs busy doing their own stuff. They didn’t see how swollen my face became from crying so much. I then acknowledged that God must know my struggle and that it’s His way of telling me that David is worth all of it, that being an Archie is something I can no longer run away from, that there is a reason for my being one.

With that realization, and because that image remained immovable on my iTouch’s screen, I then turned on my laptop to look for that video on YouTube so that I could download it and make a screen capture of the frozen profile image. I was still tearful so it took me some time to find the exact moment of the profile, but I was finally able to save it. On the larger screen of my laptop, I could now see that he had a bigger smile than on the sketch that I drew, that he was truly happy and looking forward to his mission. It made such a deep impact on me that the video froze at that exact moment to comfort me in my sadness, and that Someone knows what I’m going through.

DA_Profile_B4DCut

Noticing that my iTouch was still on the same frozen image even after I had successfully screen-captured it, I then thought of taking a photo of my iTouch to document what happened. But when I was ready with my camera and focused on it, the screen went dark. I tried to revive my iTouch, but it didn’t recover the image. Instead it warned that the battery was low and needed to be charged. This happened after the image was on for almost an hour. It was as if it waited for me to capture it on my laptop. Right after that, I tweeted David that I had just gotten a strong message from his vlog. I wonder if he ever read it, but don’t expect that he did, knowing how busy he was at that time.

The next day, David released his very last video blog before he entered the MTC. I thought I would cry again after watching it, but I didn’t. Amazingly, I felt happy and peaceful, both for him and for me, because I was given an assurance that I am still in this journey with David and that I should keep the faith  stronger than ever. I am convinced all the more that God has a plan for David which he still has to fulfill, and I have to stick around to witness him fulfill it.

I still have to know what God wants me to do after all this. I keep praying for an answer, and so far I have been receiving bits and pieces which always lead me back to David. Until then, I remain a faithful Archie, waiting for the imminent return of our beloved David Archuleta.

David Archuleta ~ Memorial Day

Posted by djafan on Monday, May 28, 2012

In 1971, Memorial Day was declared a national holiday. The United States celebrates this holiday the last Monday of May.

Memorial Day Meaning – Reagan’s Speech
President Ronald Reagan is credited with reviving the practice of honoring Memorial Day and its meaning. .

“Today is the day we put aside to remember fallen heroes and to pray that no heroes will ever have to die for us again. It’s a day of thanks for the valor of others, a day to remember the splendor of America and those of her children who rest in this cemetery and others. It’s a day to be with the family and remember.”

A THOUGHT

Hi everybody, it’s David here. Right now we are currently in the Philippines shooting for the mini series I have been filming, Nandito Ako. I just thought I’d make a video about a thought, thoughts I have, while I’m gone.Of course I haven’t left yet, at this point. Just wondering about my mission and how things are going to go. It will be interesting being gone for two years. I am wondering what kind of people I am going to meet while I am gone.

I wonder about the people who I am close to, my family, my friends. How they will be. How they will grow on their own while I am gone away and not in contact or in touch with them anymore.

It’s kind of a neat thing to think about, too. It’s a scary thought that I won’t have my family and friends there or the people that I am used to growing up with, but that’s what’s exciting too. I will be growing in my own way, in a way I wouldn’t ever get to normally, because I wouldn’t ever separate myself from everything I am comfortable with.

So it’s always challenging , but I think its those challenges that we look forward to and that’s how we grow, right? I am looking forward to that challenge. I am worried about it because I do worry about my family, people I care about. Even the fans, you know? I wonder how everyone is going to continue with life as I am not a normal part of it anymore.I can’t wait to bring back the person I have become, while I have that time away.

So that’s my thought for now, inside David’s head, before he is gone. A thought to put to you guys while I am gone. And I will say more later!

Ribbon in the Sky ~ The Soul Man Cometh

Posted by djafan on Tuesday, April 19, 2011

Collage by Djafan

There is no cutting the ribbon that binds David to his soulful roots. It is not frayed. It is as strong as ever and if his cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Ribbon in the Sky,” is any indication, it is getting stronger every day. There is just something special about the joy he exudes when singing these songs: “My Girl,” “Stand By Me,” “Shop Around,” and that luscious, impromptu, from the nether regions of his bodacious musical gut “Works for Me” from Reno. All stand as testimonies to what must be true, at least in part. Submitted for your consideration, the uncontrollable finger snapping in each of the two videos posted. Watching these performances, I get the distinct impression that here, in this place, with these songs, this man is in his element and loving every minute of it. Follow your bliss, David. Just follow your bliss. It will not steer you wrong.

Don’t let his smile lull you into a false sense of security. We got ourselves a serious situation on our hands.

Who He Is

Posted by djafan on Friday, April 1, 2011

David Archuleta graced us with another video blog yesterday saying what could have been said in half the time, yet in typical David fashion, he would go on.  blah blah blah blah blah.  For 8 minutes and 37 seconds to be exact, talking about building foundations for the future.  Yawn.  I’m so over him.

That’s the best I can do for the gag fest that typically marks the 1st of April, because for me, this is a day for keeping it real.

The charuth is, he had me at buenos dias. I really meant and need to say that in typical David fashion, he exceeded all expectations. He is in control of his destiny and it showed in every poorly lighted frame of his video blog. If I had to find a fault that would be my only one, not enough attention to the aesthetics of good lighting. We have to make screen caps and collages with this stuff, dude, work with us here! Never mind. I can’t complain. He gave us the scoop and let us into the workings of his genius and it was a beautiful thing to see even in the poorest of light. Behold, the solid foundation he is laying:

This time around, he is hand-picking the band and keeping them close together, close to the action in his home base of LA.

He wants to work as often as he can with them to get, as he put it, the “vibe,” “feel” and “chemistry” just right, so he can “feel inspired by the people I’m working with on stage.”

He is writing alone now to find out “what David is.” When he figures out what he wants to say and how he wants to say it and gets more skilled at it, he will collaborate with other writers again. Until then, this is his time to find out what he is capable of creating, without outside persuasion, from the depths of his own beautiful soul.  Very smart move.  I swear he slays me.

He wants to sometime do a vlog during a  jam session with his band and let us actually watch the process.   I declare he will be the death of me.

To that end, (being the end of me) he proceeded to write a song on the piano, using keys in the lower scale he never uses to write with but which he finds himself suddenly liking. He sings in his elfin tongue words that are unintelligible to the human ear but nevertheless, enchanting.  I know he will be my demise.  I’m willing to live with that for as long as I can.

One more thing and this is the best part of this whole excellent vlog for me. Music is the universal language but he takes that metaphor even further.  He describes the different genres of music as separate and unique languages in themselves. You can hear him in the video but I will record it here in his own words because he gets this so right it’s scary.

“Before I had some really great musicians and band members that I was really learning from…you know, really great pop, great at doing pop stuff. It’s almost like they, in a music sense, they, the past members I’ve had, spoke English and Spanish.  But now, I’m trying to learn more languages, like these band members will speak five or six different languages.  So I want to broaden my horizon as a musician and learn to speak those languages or different cultures of those different sides of music.”

What musical languages he will learn in the days ahead is what keeps me hanging on for dear life.

“You have to get a sense of who you are before you can know what decisions to make. “

David Archuleta Vlog!

Article by Bebereader

Hah! David’s newest vlog may appear to be a St. Patrick’s Day vlog to some, but to diehard fans, it’s much more. In fact, it was packed to the gills with so many random implications, things we’ve been patiently waiting to hear. Were you sitting on the edge of your seat, afraid you’ll miss something? How many times did you watch it?

Wishing us a Happy St. Patrick’s Day, he stood to show us that he has his green on, wearing a Gremlin t-shirt. He just wanted to check in and tell us that it’s been a crazy week!

Honoring the victims of the Japan earthquake, he points out how technology gives immediate access to show us exactly what is happening in Japan. He tells us to be mindful of others who may be going through hard times and encourages us to donate even a small amount. If you can’t do much, at least keep them in your prayers.

It’s been a really good week, he says! I’d really like to know what he really means by ‘really’. He’s working on some songs but it’s a matter of finishing them. He compares himself to the mad scientist on Jimmy Neutron who’s never able to finish anything. You know, it’s all a matter of narrowing the songs down, he says. Gee David, all you have to do is say the word and we can help.

He goes on to say that there’s been a lot of phone calls this week. David, I hope your cell was ringing off it’s hook! It’s his last day at home and wants to spend time with his siblings. Last day in Utah? Where are you going, David? “Going going back back to Cali Cali” and excited for tomorrow.  Did you catch that sneaky grin? What’s going on in Cali Cali in the next few days? Writing more songs? Signing with a label? Interviewing new management?

The part that excited me most was when he talked about a foundation and of needing to get that foundation built before building the tower. The tower??!! I know what a foundation is but was more than happy to look it up since he sounded serious.

Definition of FOUNDATION

1: a basis upon which something stands or is supported
2: funds given for the permanent support of an institution
3: an underlying base or support; especially, the whole masonry substructure of a building
4: a body or ground upon which something is built up or overlaid
5: a woman’s supporting undergarment
6: a cosmetic usually used as a base for makeup
I’m assuming David means #1 #3 or #4.

Excited for today, he’s looking forward to letting us know what’s coming up, and will talk to us guys next time. He said “See ya.”

What a tease he is!@!@E#@@

So, what do YOU think is going on back in Cali in the coming week?

David Archuleta ~ To India with Love

“Had an amazing time in India at Rising Star Outreach! Very humbling to go there and even though it was a short trip it was a life changing experience. Just makes you appreciate things more and gives you a different perspective of things. Sorry for the rambling babbling and still not really getting to everything I wanted to explain, but hopefully we can get a Q&A sometime soon!”

David Archuleta YouTube 02/03/11

“A special, a VERY special young man. So sweet, so loving, so compassionate. He is simply a one of a kind human being.

Obviously he will never forget the people he encountered, the people whose feet he washed, whose hands he held. The children he sang to & talked to & laughed & played with. AND he must know, THEY will also NEVER forget the young man named David with the voice of an angel, the beautiful, gentle eyes, the hair blacker than night, the beautiful bright smile, the large hands with a soft & gentle healing touch. They will never forget David. Of that I am sure.

But I don’t mind admitting I am glad he’s home. “
