YOU ARE A WHOLE NEW FEELING~David Archuleta

As soon as he walked out onstage at Daryl’s House in Pawling last Saturday night, I knew he wasn’t the same David Archuleta that I left at Westbury seven years earlier. After not seeing him for a long stretch of time, the change in his stage presence was remarkable; I could not take my eyes off of him. The Livestream doesn’t do him justice.

Experience shows; he’s now like a well-oiled machine. His confidence level has risen and there’s now a subtle sophistication about him. Unlike other singers, David doesn’t just sing; he performs each song, with it’s own set of dance moves, particular to that song. And yet at the same time; he’s humble. An interesting combination of traits in one person; confidence, experience, sophistication and humility; a humility that only comes from within. Male or female, the audience loves him and gave him a standing ovation several times during the evening.

The small, sold-out venue gave way to an intimate performance, allowing David to lock eyes with audience members, as he delivered the messages of each song. At one point, he sang the last verse of “Crush”to a young girl in the front row, corner. When he walked away I glanced at her. She was overwhelmed, almost in tears. There was a bunch of older fans in the audience, too. We caught every change up in melody or lyric and every dance move and we responded with applause.

David’s talent is so diverse that he’s able to have a setlist comprised of different genres including ballads, rock, jazz, spiritual, Latin, pop and even songs from movie soundtracks. The medley of tunes he sang from “The Great Showman” movie was awesome!

My other new favorites are “Nunca Pense” – his Latin dance moves are killer and I love how his band provided boy-band type dancing backup…

I also loved the new finger-snapping in one of my early favorites “Invincible”.

“Thunder” was a powerful performance, too! And seeing him sing “Spotlight Down” before my eyes was a treasure. So many favorites!

It was a perk getting to see Marlie from The David Chronicles and SnowAngelz, Deb and Refnaf again! DJbell is such a hoot online and in person. For the fans, it was like no time had passed. ❤

I have no idea if David is interested in having a role on Broadway but from my perspective,  he looks ready. I can visualize him onstage in the play, “Dear Evan Hansen”. Anyone else?

Some things never change, especially the euphoric feeling you get when one of David’s shows is over. As I left the venue, that familiar feeling washed over me, reminding me that David Archuleta is truly one of the blessings in my life.

It was a perfect Thursday night at The Marriott Center for the BYU Spectacular. The weather was just right. The sun was setting with a beautiful view from the large wrap-around windows. I arrived early. Really early.

David started with “Crush”, establishing who he was in case anyone had forgotten. Then it was “Imagine”. His voice was so pure and sweet. The entire audience was motionless. I found I was holding my breath. No one wanted to intrude in any way on the magic of that song. Afterward David said that song was special to him because when he sang it on American Idol, it taught him you could connect with the audience without bouncing around and waving your arms.

The Women’s Chorus sang two songs, then David was to join them in the third. From my seat I could see David standing in the shadows, separating himself from the applause for the chorus.  When he took the stage, the applause increased and he turned and acknowledged the chorus, as if they were the star. “Nunca Pense” was the song he sang with them and he showed off his foot work. My head was constantly bobbing. If I looked down I could see the whole David, footwork and all, but if I looked up to the jumbo screen I could see his immense face full of emotion.

Then came some singing and dancing with no David. I did see the dancers. When David left the stage it was easy to find them.

When he sang “Parachutes and Airplanes” the audience lit a thousand cell phones for David, some stood, some danced. It was sort of like “Zero Gravity” used to be without the frenzy.

credit ShelleyFOD

“Everybody Hurts” began with David at the back behind the dancers. Then he wandered among them and finished at the front. Remember the picture of David where he held all the ribbons attached to our hearts?

recently-updated4-005Credit Angelica

It was like he grabbed those ribbons and ripped our hearts right out of us. From the beginning to end he wrang our hearts and thoughts and emotions. He walked off the stage and left us stunned and gasping. One of his best performances ever.

This Sugar Crush Ain’t Going Away ~ David Archuleta ~ Vote!

Posted by djafan on Thursday, February 28, 2013

dacawa

iPhone, therefore iAm.  Think about it.*  My iPhone has become such an integral part of my existence that the very thought of losing it sends me into a panic. Take the other day at work. I’m just sitting there, happily gabbing with my friend Sherry, when suddenly I realize my phone is not on my desk or in my pocket! Having just concluded a meeting with my boss, I rush down the 50 foot corridor to his office, burst inside and anxiously demand if he’s seen my phone. “It’s in your hand.”  “It’s not on my desk or in my pocket and….what?” “It’s in your hand.”  Removing the phone from my ear, I stare at it in shock and awe, as though a live grenade has suddenly appeared in my hand, and a second later, it explodes with shrieks of laughter. “I gotta go, Sherry.” Now it’s my boss’s turn. He collapses into his chair and slaps the desk, laughing like a baby tickled into hilarity or the way porky pig laughs at daffy duck. I waddle back down the hall to my office with him holding onto the door for support and gasping after me, “Thank you.  Thank you very, very much!”  Dethpicable.

Well, let them laugh. I can’t help it. I love my phone. I get my mail, access social media, the internet, listen to music 🙂  watch movies, read books, jot down notes, record where I parked my car, take pictures and videos, check the weather, look up addresses, get restaurant and movie reviews, read the news or the scriptures, and text my friends.  Sometimes I even use it to make calls.

And there are games.  Addictive games.  Be guided by me.  Do not download Candy Crush Saga.  I made it through 28 levels, loving the rush of the sugar crush more and more with each level completed.  To fail over and over and then to see those words quietly appear on the screen___Sugar Crush. Then to watch all the red, green, yellow, orange and purple candy explode and fall downward in a torrent of sugar crystals. What a rush! What a rush!  And I ALWAYS have to yell the words out loud whenever it happens. “Sugar Crush!!!” Like Honey Boo Boo Child, it makes me holla. Finally one day I arrived at level 29 and spent the next three weeks trying to achieve sugar crush. I accepted these repeated failures with my usual maturity and grace.   tumblr_mb97hr46Ql1rbqd7uo5_250

At last I succeeded and two days later, sugar crushed on levels 30, 31, 32 and 33 in just two hours! Not being a smoker, I savored the occasion instead with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream.  And this.  What better way to celebrate a sugar crush than with a sugar rush? Feel free to copy and share. Divine! That’s another thing about this game that is so enticing. With even the slightest competent move, a man’s deep voice encourages you with, “Divine!” “Sweet!” “Tasty!” “Delicious!”  Abrra has lost her mind playing the game. She has given up all semblance of struggle and now self-indulgently plays level 7 over and over and over, just for the cheap thrill of a quick and easy sugar crush.  Sad.

Here, in a series of texts sent to me by my concert buddy and monthly Archulunch partner Biz, is documented proof of the addictive properties of the game. There are a million stories in the Candy Crush Saga. This, is just one of them.

I know David wanted us to develop ourselves while he’s away working on the person he can’t wait to bring back to us. I had such big plans for these 2 years. I meant to go outside, honest. The only exercise I did for the DA2014 Fitness Club on twitter was to push the follow tab. I was going to learn Spanish. I downloaded several Spanish language apps but that’s as far as I got.

Now a whole year has passed and what have I achieved? Level 45 so far. I hope to achieve level 65 before he returns, which by all reports is virtually impossible.  Then I’ll work on scoring level G, rows 1-10 for that other crush I’m so obsessed with.

* With apologies to René Descartes:  “I think, therefore I am.”

David Archuleta Launches New Clothing and Hair Product Lines!

Posted by bebereader on Friday, February 17, 2012

credit @PinoyArchies

Singer/songwriter, best-selling Author, Humanitarian and Actor, David Archuleta can now add Endorser for clothing and hair products line to his resume.  Just a few hours ago at a musical fashion show at The Trinoma Activity Center in The Philippines, David launched both a new clothing line for Bench Clothing and a new hair products line for Fix Professional Hair Styling Products.

A huge thank you to Norms, who was able to make a Ustream available for the fans back home.  After an impressive slide show on a large screen, in which David modeled Bench fashions, he sang five songs, “Nandito Ako”, “Touch My Hand”, the “Good Place/Let It Be” medley, “Crush” and then “A Thousand Miles” after the fans chanted “one more song!”.

credit @lorms

David carried the entire concert portion of the show himself and the emotional connection he has with the fans was palpable.  There even seemed to be an element of  farewell and appreciation, in my humble opinion.  Maybe you’ll agree if we’re lucky enough to see the performances on youtube.

A Masterpiece

By MT

When God created men
They were not all the same.
Each from a different palette
So many of them came

But every now and then
A special one is made,
Painted with touches of color
From the beauty that God gave.

From the dewy green of grass
He’s given him his eyes.
With the color of cherry blossoms
He painted lips to smile.

From the softly falling snow
He found the color for his teeth.
And for his skin, a special treat,
The dew and color of peach.

And from the blackness of the night
His locks of hair are hewn.
And then he gave him breath
So with golden voice he’d croon.

His heart was made with special care
From the garden of the rose.
In deepest red he fashioned it
With love and care and hope.

When giving him his inner light,
He reached into the sun.
He knew this one would shine so bright
He’d be known by everyone.

As he gazed upon this creature,
God knew he’d cast a spell.
He’d made this one a masterpiece.
He’d used his palette well.

David Archuleta ~ The Rush of Crush

Posted by djafan on Monday, August 1, 2011

It was Friday, August 1, 2008. I had the day off. I set the alarm for 5am and sprinted to my computer. This surprised me as I was unaware that I could still sprint. hah! Strapped on my headphones and away yay yay I whooshed! It was an exhilarating experience, watching his reaction to the plaintive cries of his first-born. I listened to this on repeat so many times my satellite provider cut me off for 24 hours! Say what? It hurt too. The shock to my system almost sent me into ODD DT’s. Not pretty. Needless to say, I quickly switched to High Speed DSL after that. But it was all worth it. Witnessing his profound joy was one of the sweetest moments ever.

Video credit Tinabeebop

Still have a crush on that song. When it first came out, I wrote these words. The songwriters were Emanuel Kiriakou, Jess Cates, and David Hodges. ♥

“Why is it that, though I have and love all of David’s songs, I only rarely play any of them more than once, but with Crush I have to keep hitting replay over and over? My thoughts were that it is a really complex work with so many emotions: longing, doubt, fear, frustration, anger, passion, love and yes, even the first stirrings of sexual desire. It hooks you with a moan and then his vocals start off so soft, “What a rush”. Then they get sharp and full of angst with, “Why do I keep running from the truth”. Then comes that love call that on the second refrain seems to reach out across time and space, “I just got to know!!”  He becomes everyone who ever loved and aches to know if their love will be returned. Then the gorgeous layering vocals and it ends on the yay, yay, yay, as if to tell us he’s just another 17 year old and this is really just another light contemporary pop song.
Right. And I’m the Queen of England.”
