David Archuleta ~ #Shanghai #shanghaibabyshome #China #orphans #Littlesnow

Posted by djafan on Monday, August 22, 2016

One of the highlights of our time in Shanghai was getting to visit the Shanghai Baby’s Home. It was started to help kids in orphanages who need lifesaving treatment. It was touching. These littlest ones are people who can’t help themselves. I’m amazed by Daisy and the Shanghai Baby’s Home crew who constantly are fighting to help these kids’ lives. So glad that the Cook Family brought us here! It reminds me that I need to be grateful that I’ve had a home and a family who has taken care of me. We played in the play room and made forts. The kids saw my phone though and seemed to know that there may be some games on there. 😳😅. They immediately found a Disney game that I whip out from time to time. Glad we could all share a love for Disney. Link to their Facebook will be in my bio.#Shanghai #shanghaibabyshome#China #orphans

I had to post one more. This is little Snow. She has a congenital heart defect and lives at the Shanghai Baby’s Home. She has had one operation and is going to need another one. It was awesome getting to play with her for a little while trying to show her pictures of a cat. She was more interested in the paper cover though. I guess it had a shine to it that she preferred over the pictures. 😂 Photo Credit: Daisy at Shanghai Baby’s Home #Shanghai#shanghaibabyhome #orphan #China#Littlesnow

This needed a place of its own.

David Archuleta Makes China a Better Place

David Archuleta made a brief visit to Shanghai last weekend and as a result, China is a better place, especially for the many foreign-passport holders who came to the devotional he kindly gave on Sunday afternoon. It was difficult for some in the audience, though, because applause and screaming were not allowed.

I saw some audience members, my wife included, barely able to hold back the applause because David is so wonderfully talented. It’s not just a beautiful voice, it’s the beautiful message that he delivers with the Spirit. He actually spoke more than he sang because he has so many stories and inspiring thoughts he wanted to share, and I enjoyed his spoken words just as much as the music. (Kudos also to two very talented pianists from the Jinqiao Branch, Jenna Gray and Cheryl Parkinson.)

His message was not just for the English speakers. David also sang “I Am a Child of God” in Mandarin with just a few minutes of coaching from one of our members before the devotional. It sounded great. How he managed the pronunciation of Pinyin (the transliteration system for expressing Chinese in the Roman alphabet) with so little preparation is beyond me.

  5. David always leaves a ray of sunshine everywhere he goes. I love the pictures and the article. I know without a shadow of a doubt that he is doing what truly makes him happy. I am amazed and so much admiration for him. It’s no wonder when he touches your heart, you want more, so happy to be a friend and a fan of his forever!!!!

Thanks Dja. He is like no other…loving, caring and wonderful! So sweet. I love what he is doing with his extra time in China. ♥♥♥ He’s going to be an awesome dad! 🙂

David has such a big heart; it’s no wonder he is loved all over the world. ❤

Dear David, post another picture of you with babies and we’ll all be dead. You are a weapon of mass destruction!

That article said he sang I’m a Child of God in Mandarin. If only there was a recording of it!

Hey all! My daughter & her boyfriend are at Cedar Point having a blast! As they arrived the park had Crush blastin’ through the speakers everywhere!!! WOOT! WOOT! I LOVE that!
Have a fabulous day Voice Peeps!

David is just the best! 👍🏻👏

  10. djafan said

Angelofdja, Love the sounds of Crush blasting! Ditto on David is just the best 🙂

Fenfan, I believe it is very likely that there is a recording of it but will it be made public? I hope so!

Hello Carolyn! Yes, the happiness is on his face and that makes me happy. They don’t call him Sunshine David in those neck of the woods for nothing!

Bebe, That heart of his touches us all. I was told by some Chinese people I shared the Moon video with that first his Chinese sounds native and that he has the perfect characteristics for an international following which he seems to have where ever he goes. I like that 🙂

Jans, Can you just see the connection with those babies, he’s always had it but its oozing out of him now, lucky future Archuleta babies.

Kristin, The evidence is here! lol

    Abrra, to.the.point. Love it.

I tell you he is a genius.

    Wonder if he’s home.

I’ve not heard this song. Guess I should take a listen if David is quoting it 🙂

Dja…Wonderful pictures. But, how could they not be… they are of David and of David with little ones. What a great blog write-up by Mormanity. I’m so glad you posted it here. David has definitely been given the gift of tongues. ♥♥

Sounds like his ‘Glorious’ voice was still a little on the recovering side. But, it is still the best ever!! What an awesome message he shared with those tweens and teens at SAS.

Oh Fen! Fingers are crossed for ‘I Am a Child of God’ in Mandarin to surface!!

Tim McGraw’s ‘Humble and Kind’ .. I really liked it the first time I heard it and went right to iTunes and purchased it. It has a great message.

David answered some questions at the end.

David does not keep track of his networth? hmmmmm

One of his favorite songs that is not his.

  17. Abrra said

Haha Djafan that’s his plausible deniability on his net worth. He has a financial advisor that keeps his books. Maybe he should have said, “I don’t worry about the number.”

  18. jans11 said

Here is Humble and Kind. Tim got an award for it on CMT. Now I know why it’s my favorite song by Tim. It’s just like David!

Dja – “I was told by some Chinese people I shared the Moon video with that first his Chinese sounds native and that he has the perfect characteristics for an international following which he seems to have where ever he goes.”

Agree totally with your Chinese friends. If I did not know who he was and just listened to that song without the visuals I would have thought he was a Chinese speaker. I say Chinese speaker and not just Chinese because LOL some Chinese people do not speak Mandarin at all. As for “perfect characteristics for an international following” yes he certainly does especially in East Asia and Southeast Asia where young people and the not so young swoon over K-pop stars and actors who have the same sort of physique and youthful good looks.

“How he managed the pronunciation of Pinyin (the transliteration system for expressing Chinese in the Roman alphabet) with so little preparation is beyond me.”

David does have a facility for languages that I envy. My guess is he learnt pinyin before his trip. Once he’s mastered the 4 tones represented by the symbols on top of each word and the different sounds represented by the alphabet he’d be able to read every word with the correct intonation. And I think singing the words makes it easier to get them right. He sounded wonderfully clear in that Moon song, although he did have a problem with making the sounds represented by one or two letters. An example is the initial J in “Ji” which sounded to me like the initial “Q”in “Qi”, which turned “Ji”, a counting word as in “how many, how deep, how much” into “Qi” or “breath, air, energy” etc depending on the word combination. (As you can see I have made a very close study of this song!!!)

But I am nitpicking. I think he could easily learn some basic phrases and several more songs in Mandarin and have all China under his spell in concert there!

In case you are interested you can practise some pinyin here.

Try saying “ma” in the four tones. It’ll be fun!

  20. Jenny said

David, the charitable caring person who can sing in Mandarin.
I like how he deflected the question about his net worth. The nerve of young kids! Lol. I have a guess but that’d be rude. Don’t really care for the Tracy Chapman song though. What a great kid! OMG when I was 25….

  21. djafan said

Fenfan, Hoping really hard that he records the Moon song in Chinese.

Jans, I don’t know any of Tim’s music but thank you for posting that video. I could really see David covering that song and doing a country album if he felt like it or any other genre or language by the looks of it 🙂

Jenny, I didn’t like the Chapman song either. I looked up the lyrics and made me wonder about his hurts that he will never share. I admire him for always looking at the bright side.

This was pulled from the collage. No words.

  22. Jenny said

Thanks for pointing out the lyrics dja! I always wonder about these celebrities who song in such a heart breaking way or act in such a moving way when their lives are so different from the situations that they are portraying. I guess that’s empathy. I’m sue even people whose lives seem so perfect have hurts that they don’t show to the world.

  23. tawna21 said

Fen, I will go to my grave as an English speaker, because I simply don’t ‘get’ it with other languages. And I can tell you, in all honesty, that to even attempt Mandarin would not be pretty! I admire all of you that have the ability to be multi-lingual.

Abrra, I love everyone hearing David’s beautiful voice in that arena! Oh and the skater was good 🙂

Tawna, I’m bilingual but David ability to learn, connect, and deliver in foreign languages is incredible.

Jenny, “they don’t show the world” I believe this is true of David but I do hope he shows it when surrounded by loved ones, actually we’ve seen him cry and I’ve cried with him. When I saw the angry and sad scenes in Nandito Ako, I would tell him “let it out David, let it out!” crazy me.

Finally I have a reason to stay watching The Voice past the blind auditions! Yay for Billy Gilman! It hasn’t been an easy transition from platinum recording artist at age 11 to Nashville/Rhode Island artist trying for a comeback at 28. Hmmm does this all sound familiar?

So happy for him that he took this opportunity!

  28. stenocruiser said

#27 — Good news! Looking forward to seeing Billy perform — have been watching his videos on you tube a lot over the years. His voice is still great and I wish him every success with this new venture. Exciting!!

Steno!!!!! So good to see you!!!

I love watching the voice! The one thing is that you don’t have time to get invested with a participant because it moves so fast, here one day gone the next lol

  32. Abrra said

I enjoy the blind auditions. But i don’t seem to get invested in any of the contestants once the live shows start. But in this case I have known BG since he was 9 or 10 as a local talent in my area. He has always been an artist who gives back. And add the fact that he and David have so much in common as people. Both deserve a successful music career and have the talent to make it happen.

  33. Abrra said

The Eagle has landed. And he is making the music 🙂

  34. jans11 said

Happy that he is back on US soil again all safe and sound. ♥ His music sounds good. And I noticed that so far he hasn’t been to the barber! 🙂 Loving it…..

Dja, I have never cared much for Tim McGraw and have never bought any of his music but I listen to a local country music station and heard this song. It’s my favorite of his, some of his I really don’t like and will turn it off. 🙂 If I’m not listening to David, I listen to the station because I have for about 40 years and I won 2 trips from there and so I’m dedicated to them! lol 🙂

I’m really liking the sound of that short clip and of course I want more!

I watch the voice all the way through, it’s entertaining. I’ll keep an eye out for Gilman. I’ve watched them all and guess what, no one even comes close to “The Archuleta”. 🙂

  40. jans11 said

I always watch all of The Voice. It is so much fun and I will be watching out for Billy. He was a favorite of mine when he was young and it’ll be good to see him and I know he will do well.
Awesome to hear The Prayer during the skating video.

I voted but don’t like Working being #2! Needs more votes! 🙂

  41. tawna21 said

Jans, at least Workin’ is #2 now. It was #4 when I voted. Yes… it needs more votes!!

  42. tawna21 said

  43. jans11 said

The votes are higher but he’s still in 2nd place. It only lets me vote like every hr., not over and over. I never like David in 2nd place…. 🙂

  44. Abrra said

Tawna I explained it in the last thread but you probably missed it.

IG stories are only viewable on devices, iPad or Iphone or Andriod.
If someone you follow on IG has created an IG story it will be at the very top of the page, above the regular photo stream.
Look for David’s IG profile picture (in the blue shirt) in a circular icon.
Tap it and a VERY short video plays. They seem to be 10 sec limit.
If he has made more than 1 video they will play in succession.
Not sure but they seem to poof after 24 hours.

Here is his most current. Its a food IG. It was posted overnight. It’s just a picture as was the last one. I think he forgets to hit the camera play button.

And that Nunca Pense …. theeee best yet! He amped that up a few notches I do believe. Oh, and the hair! Run those fingers thru it David. Dancing, head flipping, twirling …. yeah, a great performance. Score 10+++ on the performance and 10+++ on the difficulty. He mastered both. 🙂

Thank you for the Candy Jar adds. 😀
