David James Archuleta (born December 28, 1990) is an American singer-songwriter and actor. At ten years old, he won the children's division of the Utah Talent Competition leading to other television singing appearances.[6] When he was twelve years old, Archuleta became the Junior Vocal Champion on Star Search 2.[6] In 2007, at sixteen years old, he became one of the youngest contestants on the seventh season of American Idol.[7] In May 2008 he finished as the runner-up, receiving 44 percent of over 97 million votes.

3. “Imagine” –- David Archuleta Season 7
“It was top 20 week when David Archuleta became the front-runner to win season 7. His status seemed cemented when he sang a dazzling version of John Lennon’s “Imagine” that left many in tears. “David’s voice gets me on an organic level,” says vocal coach Dorian Holley. “The beauty of his voice gets right to why people love music – it tears your heart out.” One of the many people who spontaneously burst out crying during Archuleta’s performances was vocalist Lynne Fiddmont, who was a backing singer in Rickey Minor’s band. “I was tired and cranky during Hollywood Week and then David opened his mouth and I didn’t know what was happening to me. Then every time he sang I had to tell myself not to get emotional on television. No matter what I said, I cried. He has that tender-hearted voice and a vulnerability that is very rare.”

38. “Angels” –- David Archuleta
Season 7
“For inspirational week, David Archuleta admitted he was having a “hard time” picking a song – until he found Robbie Williams’ “Angels,” a song that was a hit all over the world except for the U.S., where it peaked at No. 53 on the Hot 100.
The teenager from Murray, Utah, said he “felt so strongly with the music and the song and the message in it. Despite whatever you are going through, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.” Seated at a grand piano in a light colored shirt, Archuleta looked – and sounded – angelic as he was enveloped in soft lighting and mist. “That was your hottest moment of the whole season,” said Randy Jackson, who concluded it was “crazy hot!” Paula Abdul agreed, saying it was “fantastic.”
I was so happy to see Billboard giving David his justified due. AI has treated David like he was never on the show, Not only was he on the show he was one of the most popular contestants ever. I just don’t get it. But this is way cool.
Bringing this over since the man himself shared that he is recording new music!!!!
Super reminder as to why we love David Archuleta! This comment from the AI backup singer – “He has that tender-hearted voice and a vulnerability that is very rare.” – says it all, in my opinion. David has that distinct voice that can be recognized. The smoothness, soulfulness, spirituality, and sensuality (in a non-sexual way), of his voice sets him apart from any other singers. I, too, am confused as to why AI refuses to recognize this man who, as a young, teenage boy, created a world-wide stir that created some major TV rankings for AI. We’ll never know what the issue is, but we really don’t need to know. We know where he stands with us…. at the top!
After the I’m Alive video that David made from his kitchen, I am not one bit surprised that he and Idol are done. Personally, I never expected him to ever go back on the show. He always said it made him nervous and the judges scared him even though he was a guest singer. Considering his expressed feelings about personal fame, I have to ask, why would he go on Idol at this point.
He’s happy doing things at his pace. If he were to show up on Idol, who knows, he might get offers.
I remember seeing that backup singer crying while David was singing Heaven during Hollywood Week. They are sitting behind David to the right of the picture and the one crying is on the left. She kept wiping her eyes during the whole song. I remember watching and thinking, boy he’s having an effect on her. Not the only one for sure. We were all affected.
I, too, am glad David is getting his due from AI. I agree with Abrra that he probably won’t go back on. I remember when he guest sang Imagine before going to England. He said he was backstage and asked when he was to go on and they said right now and pushed him on out on stage. Why they wanted to be rude to him and/or his dad, I’ll never know. They had out that Jeff wouldn’t let him have water…just ridiculous! And now still act like he wasn’t even an important part of AI. I do know he’s the best dang singer in the world and always will be. No one will ever replace him!
One of my all time favorite songs by David is Angels. The words mean a lot to me in my personal life.
Lynnella, I remember that lady crying when he sang Heaven. Awesome! Season 7 was the best ever and it was so much fun to see what he was going to sing from week to week. Even though I was almost holding my breath hoping that he wasn’t going to be voted off! Gosh, those were the days! 🙂 Thankful for the fans now that keeps everything interesting! David is the #1 AI from all seasons!
#9 Jans11 – I remember when he forgot the words on We Can Work it Out. The next week was Beatle week and he sang The Long and Winding Road. I was so nervous I almost had to leave the room. I was afraid he would forget the words again and get eliminated. My heart was pounding. Thankfully, Simon called it a Master Class. I can do without that stress, but I’d sure like to see him on TV singing each week.
I thoroughly enjoyed during season 7, I hope to have the chance to say thanks to David, because somehow he got me out of my comfort. Season 7 was a turning point in my life. I always will be a fan of David. That’s my way of thanking.
So far all my wishes have come true, I have no doubt that someday he will stand before me, and I will say to him: hola, soy Gladys de Argentina…….(I’ll give him some chocolates too.) …………
Lynnella, I remember that too and was upset that Simon called him a mess! David explained in his book that he was supposed to have sang Hey Jude and they changed it on him at the last minute. Another AI “baddy”! I would love to hear him sing Hey Jude….I love to hear him sing anything! LOL 🙂
Gladys, it was a turning point for me too. Don’t know what I would have done without his music after my husband passed….that is where “Angels” come in. Love that song and the words were just right for the time I was going through. And I always thank him when I send him a card or letter. He said one time that he couldn’t thank his fans enough…I can’t thank him enough! So glad that you have got to meet him and give him chocolates!! 🙂 I’m also glad that I got to meet you in St. George. You are an awesome lady! All your wishes will come true!
#2 Dja…I sometimes have to hold back words because so many things make me think of David or pertains to David. It is so refreshing to be on here or with fans that are on the same page! I even get “why do you keep going to Utah?” from people when they find out I am going there again! Haha, it’s their loss, is all I can say!! 🙂
That lady who is crying has some history with David from Star Search (I think?). They knew each other from the past. I am just too foggy to recall the exact connection. She was moved by David and how he had developed as a singer.
Thanks for another great puzzle, Abs, Pocoelsy and David! Thanks to you moderators that keep things flowing on here!!! Yes, I think Mother Nature is turned around a bit right now! 🙂
18…Oh. yes. just. the. hair…..
Can’t believe I will be enjoying The Voice live 3 times next week!!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂
16….maybe David is interested in people from other countries since he is going to Slovenia. I looked up air fares to Slovenia and it costs $1,000- $1,500 rt with 2 stops. Depends on the airline and it’s an approximately 17 hr flight from Las Vegas..depends on from what city you fly out of here in the US. It is a beautiful city to visit if I had lots of time and money!
Nice puzzle, Abrra! Yes, Spring did come to Utah for the day, but she’s leaving again! 😦 However, the weather in Arizona looks to be pretty nice (80 degrees). Last week when I checked it was supposed to be in the 90’s, but it’s cooled off down there also … I don’t know if I could handle that heat having come from the 50’s and 60’s. This old body might go into shock!
Jans… I could come up with the time to travel to Slovenia, but the $$’s is another story! 🙂
I would have loved to have heard Hey Jude. What could have been the reason to change it on him last minute? Dumb question because I know the answer.
Lots of talk about The Passion and AI commercials during showing David, surprised. I recorded it but I won’t be able to zoom through the commercials lol.
Tawna, I could find the time before the money to pay for the trip too! 🙂
DJA, you’re probably thinking the same thing I am with AI changing David’s song. grrr!
Abs, that is the latest thing out now, believe it or not. A few of my friends love to do it and one gave me a book and the coloring pens for Christmas. Haven’t even touched it yet! There are other things that I like to do better. 🙂
Hope David is wearing those caps because he’s growing his hair out! 🙂
Why does he insist on covering up that glorious hair?
I have lost track of his concert schedule and performances. They are all beginning to merge, one indistinguishable from another.
Fenfan, I just finished updating David’s event dates with links to the right side bar starting tomorrow and ending November so far. I’ll add as they appear 🙂
The hats? Probably his trying to go unnoticed, it seems to be working some. Less sightings of him.
Justin is finally standing up for himself. I follow him on IG (I am not a fan of his music) and he shares his life on and off the stage almost daily. I am not surprised he had to post this. Recently he posted that LA is so fake. Sound familiar? Good for him! Just as David took a chance and spoke up for what he needs, Justin is going to be happier in the long run.
David and Justin are worlds apart in their approach to success, but deep down they are more alike than different when it comes to dealing with how they will let it affect them.
31 Abrra. It seems to me that I feel a bit of a plea in all that emotion. For me, part of what he is singing/saying is: please people, show what is in your hearts to each other. Please listen to your own melody within. We need this so much right now!
I know that may not be at all what he is feeling. I do know however that people can seem to hold back on expressing the good within. Like children we tend to think the “squeaky wheel” gets the grease. That may be. But the squeaky wheel is also the one that is usually off-center. DA’s music centers, uplifts, inspires, heals, encourages, builds, brings people together in wonderful ways, in ways that seems to bring out the best within them.
May I strive to always do the same, in my small way, with whatever “voice” I have, with whatever “song”.
32 Abrra: Thanks for that update. JB needs good encouragement. What an uphill battle his life has been in so many ways. Glad that he is striving for a more balanced style. Good for him. May his life be blessed.
Abrra, That brought tears. What a lovely soul David is. I don’t see any similar between David and Justin.
So far everything Justin does has an ulterior motive in order to bring attention to himself. If this is genuine good for him. Time will tell. I’m not a fan of his music but he does have a couple that I like auto tuned and all on his latest album.
