American Idol XV The Farewell Season
Posted by bebereader on Wednesday, January 6, 2016
The final season of American Idol begins its 15th year at 8 p.m. Eastern tonight on Fox, with a finale in April rather than May, ending four weeks earlier than normal.
I have not followed the show since Season 7 ended but I can’t help feeling a bit nostalgic at the mention of the end of an era in TV entertainment. Sure it ran its course; it was one of the pioneers of talent search shows, aside from Star Search that never made it quite as big. It provided many hours of good TV but most of all it gave us David Archuleta, The Voice, who changed our lives in more ways that we can count on our fingers. And for this I will be forever thankful.
I lost interest in the show for a lot of reasons, but mainly because I no longer trusted the integrity of the voting tabulations (I mean, really!); I was tired of Simon’s lacerating put-downs and I was resentful that the show focused too frequently on watching people with no talent try out. It was dishonest. If the show was looking for the best talent in America, why focus on the worst? To get a laugh at the contestant’s expense?
According to a New York Times article, “Idol pulled in north of 30 million viewers at its peak , (but was able to draw only 11 million during its most recent round in 2015) and Fox milked it, expanding the excruciating audition rounds and padding the episodes. Celebrity guests flocked to pitch their wares. It was the biggest thing on TV; at times, it practically seemed like the only thing on TV.
Will you be tuning in tonight?
I think I will!

Bebe, thank you so much for posting this!! I found myself thinking about the end of an era with Idol earlier this afternoon…and it is kind of bittersweet. Very mixed feelings for me as the show was a part of my tween and teenage years. My Mom and I were avid fans of the show from the very first season but as you said, there were a lot of reasons, too, that also led us to stop watching. Season 8 was the last season I cared for any contestant or watched in its entirety while my Mom tried to watch and was finished after season 12 (I confess to still poking in when she still watched and reading about what was going on with the show online haha XP). I’m choosing not to watch tonight, and the season, for various reasons. David makes an appearance then I will tune in, but I’m going to make sure I watch the finale at least. For those watching the final season, enjoy it!! Wonder if he’ll be watching *shrugs*.
But, you definitely nailed it with this: “It provided many hours of good TV but most of all it gave us David Archuleta, The Voice, who changed our lives in more ways that we can count on our fingers. And for this I will be forever thankful.”
Even with the negatives that unfortunately came about with the show as time went on, I am forever thankful that we have all been tremendously blessed in so many ways by a then 16 year old young, shy teenager who blossomed into a remarkable, confident now 25 year old man who managed to elude the pitfalls of fame and dark sides of the music industry and find his way on HIS terms and not anyone else’s. For me, I honestly don’t know where I would be in my life today if David didn’t appear on Idol or if I didn’t watch that season. We all have been forever changed by this man. I love, admire and listen to others that got their start on Idol…but David has stayed with me since the very first time I saw him on my TV during one of many difficult low points in my life. I admit I wasn’t too bummed during that finale *like both Davids*, but was a tiny bit haha!! Mom voted for the other one haha BUT she respects our David and listens to his Christmas album sometimes 😀
Also Bebe, the pictures for this post are quite striking. The top one of the always growing, remarkable ninja we all love so much to the second picture of a rising star giving one of the greatest performances of season 7 with Imagine 🙂 Last night, I was talking with a new close friend of mine at my college (she is now an avid David fan haha I let her borrow my copy of his memoir so she could read it) and we were catching up after the break and watched various David videos and…I would just find myself choking up after a video or two with how much he’s grown the last couple of years and the endless gratitude I have for his example in my life…and basically having my eyes opened with a greater, newer perspective about God, life, fame, the good things, the list goes on…and my friend commented about what an amazing man David is and the things he says, or sings haha, are so beautiful and refreshing…
If anything…David’s appearance…was just in time. 🙂 Forever thankful to God for that!
Have a wonderful evening everyone and if it’s chilly tonight, stay warm!!

Bebe, my thoughts exactly! I had never watch AI before season 7. I was coerced into watching it because, “you really need to see David Archuleta, Mom. He is from Utah and he’s sooo good” … says my daughter. 🙂 I voted my fingers off that season! 🙂 I haven’t watched, other than a week here or there, since then. I just couldn’t deal with the level that it sank to. (jmho) It has launched a lot of careers, and I won’t discount that. I will be forever grateful for a young, shy, teenage boy from Utah that gave it a shot and made it work for himself.
“…but most of all it gave us David Archuleta, The Voice, who changed our lives in more ways that we can count on our fingers. And for this I will be forever thankful.” Me. Too!
How perfect it would be for David to make an appearance this season… fingers are crossed! 🙂

Great post Bebe, thank you!…gosh that is a beautiful lead pic♥
“but most of all it gave us David Archuleta, The Voice, who changed our lives in more ways that we can count on our fingers. And for this I will be forever thankful.” exactly! AMEN to that!
There really wasn’t any talent show like it,was a brilliant idea to bring it to the US.and America ate it up!
I will always remember the things the judges said about David from the beginning (audition) and throughout ,because they knew they were witnessing someone very special…gave him compliments and comments like we had never heard said about any contestant on prior seasons. What fun to be able to watch him each week♥
yep, it started our journey, and what a journey.
Pretty incredible.15 seasons…it’s time
so David is dressed nice, and in a flower shop:) hmm…. ♥:D

Thank you Bebe. I’m grateful that AI exists because David decided to audition to be discovered but truth be told it left a real sour taste in my mouth. I tried watching, I did but when they cropped the heck out of him when they showed winners but left Adam intact when showing Kris…click.

Thanks Bebe! I am forever grateful for David deciding to try out on AI! The rest of my life was never the same. I never watched the first season and when everyone was talking about Kelly Clarkson I didn’t know what they were talking about. So when the 2nd season started I knew I had to watch too. It was good fun I and enjoyed every year. Then when David sang his audition, I was totally hooked! I voted like crazy every week and worried that he was going to do good or make a mistake. I reveled every minute he was on camera. I was bummed when he lost and I always felt he was cheated some way. I thought that Simon gave him the shaft after hearing him and Ellen put him down on Ellen’s show! I was so mad at him and still will not ever watch him on any show! Some of the stuff I read about the goings on didn’t make me too happy so I wasn’t an AI fan anymore. But I had to watch it because it gave me good memories just to listen to the beginning music and the sillouette always reminded me of David even though he wasn’t there anymore. Crazy I know but that’s what imagined. 🙂 I kind of relented when Chris Allen won over Adam Lambert since they seemed to have it set up for Adam to win and he didn’t. I was happy and thought I guess it’s not as bad as I thought! Couldn’t stand Adam’s screaming no matter how good they thought he was! jmo
Yes, season 7 and David was the best thing that came from AI and I hope that he makes an appearance since he is one of the main parts of the show. No one will ever measure up to his voice….ever! There is only one David Archuleta and I’m so glad that he has made a good difference in my life.
Jeff’s video is interesting…not sure what he will be doing exactly….
On tonight’s show I like the lady cop and the guy with the baby where his wife auditioned too but didn’t make it. again, jmo

That was crazy! But lots of David!!!! About 35?
I watched Jeff’s video, more tolerable than AI lol
I thought it was interesting, Jeff seemed as pleasant as he always did in person. Spoke to him on several occasions and never seemed like what the media portrayed.
I do wonder what David thinks though. Does he know? Maybe Jeff ran it by him and David said sure. Who knows lol
But darn I feel AI is still trying to prove that Cook was it, that they didn’t goof. When we all know it was David and I have the numbers in many areas to prove it. sheesh.
Remember this? It killed me. Sidenote: Most of David’s AI videos with millions of views somehow are gone.

I have been a fan of his since he appeared on AI because he was so unique, shy and wrote a few of his own songs that he sang on the show.

I haven’t watched AI 15 yet. I have it on DVR so I can skip past the ads 😉 I have watched every season of AI and prefer it over The Voice. I think it’s because the contestants are a bit more “raw” and you can see them improve so dramatically over the weeks.
I am not sure I will watch the “expert” reviews.

I have you all figured out now Fenfan 🙂 hehe Cute emogies.
I just finished watching both nights of AI15. I found the production most entertaining. The auditions moved fast and the background stories were mostly engaging. I too found the “baby” appearances a distraction, as the judges mentioned.
Hire a sitter!
The contestants song choices represented a good mix of genres and they sang well for the most part. The judges were great, especially Harry Connick, Jr. He knows the technical side of music and acknowledges when a singer executes a song well.
The former winners added a bit of spice to the show. It was nice seeing them help out the nervous contestants with advice about how to audition.
I will savor ever week til the finale. I have watched from the beginning and AI is one of my favorite shows. The best part is getting to know about David and his music.

Well, since I don’t watch AI and haven’t since season 7 (only when David made an appearance) I watched Jeffs reviews. So far some interesting stuff some not. David mentions are nice, nothing personal or such. His passion for music comes through. With that said I do find it odd. Zero from him and now this. But maybe the last year and all the nostalgia going around had something to do with it.

Thanks, Dja for posting Jeff’s videos. I wondered where they were so I could see them. I agree with you as some of it is interesting and some isn’t. They were a lot longer than I thought they would be, but I agreed with a lot of what he said about the contestants. Actually, back in the Simon days, I agreed a lot with him but it was his rude way that I didn’t like. I guess he is just trying out the Youtube thing like a lot of others are now and starting out with AI in it’s last season.

Hola! I agree that this is the best interpretation of The Prayer. Listen to it every day.
MasterClass Monday: David Archuleta and Nathan Pacheco Perform A Singularly Magnificent Version Of The Prayer
Update: I just received an email from Richard Parkinson that he did not arrange this song. I trusted a site source and should have gone to the main source – Richard. However, I still know Richard to be an incredible arranger and he has worked with many singers, including David Archuleta, in the past to create inspiring musical arrangements.
I guess you’ll just have to trust me when I say this is the most moving rendition of The Prayer I have ever heard in my entire life of hearing endless upon endless versions of this beautiful David Foster composition.
And, I suspect, some of you will agree with me and the rest of you – I guess – will have to play the “agree to disagree” game with me. It wouldn’t be the first time. Ha!
First of all, you rarely, if ever, hear two impeccable MALE vocalists perform this number. It was written for a female/male combo and, up until this point, I have enjoyed this gender collaboration very much.
However, the pairing of David Archuleta and Nathan Pacheco is nothing short of inspired. Although both possess uniquely distinct voices and come from different stylistic approaches to their music, what binds these two singers is their commitment to really excellent, technically secure and musically cohesive singing.
Secondly, the arrangement, conceived and created by the very talented Richard Parkinson (Arranger to be determined) showcases the depth, breadth and beauty of their voices while staying true to who they are as artists. Both have incredible ranges and, through this arrangement, we not only have the opportunity to see and hear every gorgeous aspect of their voices, but also see two distinctly different artists performing together while remaining true to their artistic vision. This is very hard to achieve but achieve it they did!
Thirdly, the fact that they are physically distant from one another in this video was a superb idea. If they were standing together, this would have impeded their physical and vocal freedom and, as listeners, we would have become more aware of the difference in their performing styles. Also, the distance between each singer added a dramatic effect to the entire song. What a great call!
This performance is truly a brilliant masterpiece. Enjoy the video (featured below) on this MasterClass Monday and beyond. I guarantee you will be playing this song for years to come.
The Prayer can be purchased on iTUNES.

I love that quote from Tolkien. How very true it is. I am grateful for the light in others that encourages me and helps to light my path.
I wanted to let the Masterclass Lady know about Leo-Z and that he is the arranger of “The Prayer” as it is done by DA and NP. so I left a note on her blog. But to do that, I had to (darn!) visit Nathan’s site to be certain that my info was correct.
This is the new song he has posted:
You can read a bit about it on his FB page:
https://www.facebook.com/NathanPachecoMusic
Some say that this is the influence of moving to Nashville!!! ^_^
(I love seeing his son!!)
Do we have some of the same to look forward to with DA? Woooooo! Wouldn’t that be amazing?
I can’t really see it, I see DA as more soulful. But still…. I guess we never know what will happen.
