David Archuleta appearance may bring record crowd to BYU Spectacular
By Whitney Hales on October 5, 2015.
Some of BYU’s most popular performing groups will share center stage with David Archuleta at this year’s BYU Spectacular.
BYU Spectacular producer Michael Handley said there has never been such a high demand for tickets to the show.
“There’s a particular interest in David Archuleta,” Handley said. “That’s triggered the terrific box office response.”
Tickets went on sale in July, but the demand was so high that the BYU Alumni Association added 1,800 seats to each show — 3,600 extra seats total. This is the first time that a performance of BYU Spectacular has ever sold out, according to Handley.
The Marriott Center “empty”
Handley said BYU students and alumni are not the only ones excited about Archuleta’s performance in the BYU Spectacular.
“All of the performing groups have expressed interest in performing with David,” Handley said. “I think the audience will really enjoy seeing our groups interact with him.”
Most of the music in the show, including Archuleta’s music, will be accompanied by the BYU jazz band Synthesis. Archuleta will also sing with Women’s Chorus and Vocal Point. The Contemporary Dance Theatre will also perform alongside him.
The Cougarettes will dance while Archuleta sings “Glorious,” the song he debuted in the movie “Meet the Mormons.”
“This will be extremely memorable for the Cougarettes,” Overman said. “It’s a unique experience to work with someone as well known as David Archuleta.”
Handley said Archuleta seems enthusiastic about performing with BYU groups as well.
“He was extremely interested and excited at our request to pair him off with our ensembles,” Handley said. “This is an opportunity that I don’t think he normally gets.”
The Marriot Center “full”

“I am so excited for the duet with Nathan Pacheco. If anyone thinks David can’t sing opera they don’t realize that David can sing anything. I got curious if there are any songs I know that are opera songs so I googled it. It turns out that although I’m not familiar with most opera songs, I do know several. One is from Porgy and Bess “Summertime” and another is “Ave Maria”!!! Who knew that “Ave Maria” is considered opera? So, in effect, David has been singing opera as long as he has been singing “Ave Maria”. :)”
Dear Bebereader: If you were here with me, we would be skipping together while holding hands. I am SO with you!! ^_^
And… I will be there at the BYU “thing” on Thursday. For once I really wish I knew how to do the whole phone/camera thing. Or that I even had a phone that would do it. But that is because I am thinking there might not be so many fans there…..
I am forgetting this generation of techies. I foretell: there will be vids. I just hope you can get someone to periscope.
That would be amazing.
That DA will be performing with many of the groups? Shades of AI! Come back to haunt? No… this will be amazing!!!!

And once again… (as if anyone needed reminding of my approval *_*). This opportunity for DA to sing with Nathan Pacheco….just think….if DA has been having any thoughts about how to enlarge his audience and repertoire…Oh My. this is such a great opportunity.
I am SO happy about this. DA does nothing without a reason. And Nathan… in a word…generous. And…it will be a nice “draw” for him as well. Win-win.
Yummy.

I am so stinkin’ excited for this weekend!!!! I don’t have a phone that will accomplish what is needed, so I won’t be of any help in that department. But, it looks like Shelley will be there so plan on the works. That place is soooo huge that she shouldn’t have any problems with getting stuff. She may have to still be a little sneaky, but probably not even close to Idaho and Layton.
It makes me giggle to hear/read what BYU is commenting. They are tripping all over themselves! 🙂 I must admit I’m a leeetle jealous that they get to be up close and personal with him on this Monday, and I’ve spent it running errands or just ‘doing’ around my house. 😉 (I’m over it now)
Hey Bluesky! Will you remind us just once more of your approval of the Nathan/David event?! I’m sure we will all agree with you again!!!! Love you!!!

Thank you Dja for all the good info. I am so happy for David that things are a rolling for him. So thankful that he didn’t quit music. It was upsetting to me knowing what he must have been going through a few months ago to want to quit. But, he’s back now and I love it! He sure is going to keep us busy for next few weeks. 🙂 Thank you David.
Dayzee, trying to see the dancers will be just like you didn’t know there was rain in the background of his performance a few months ago! 🙂
Glad they are taking care of David in his dressing room. His voice needs to be insured!

He drinks only Fiji water – NO exceptions!
Organic raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar from Bragg – nice! Love it!
Creamy peanut butter – yay – none of that crunchy stuff. But I don’t like Skippy. I prefer Adams natural no-stir unsalted.
Hot water setup with raw honey, lemon and raw sugar – he should ask for some cinnamon to go with that. The water should be lukewarm so it doesn’t kill all the natural healing properties of the honey. I drink honey and lemon with cinnamon every morning.
Coconut water!!!!! He should be a real diva and insist that they get him some real fresh coconuts! They are the best.
I am loving this tour rider.

According to The Digital Universe 1,800 seats were added to each night’s performance.
With all the tickets sold the Marriott Center will be half-filled for each performance. It doesn’t say what’s the capacity of the arena but Google tells me it’s 19,000. So that means there will be 9,500 people in the audience each night.
Is it too much to hope that a few of those 9,500 (or 2-night total of 19,000) would take video and maybe one person would set up a Periscope broadcast?
Keeping my fingers and toes crossed.
Not being greedy here but since there are two dance groups performing with him I hope he would burst out some moves or the dancers could get him involved in their choreography in a jazz number, pick him up and carry him around over their shoulders or something like they sometimes do in acrobatic dance. That would be totally epic!! LOL

The hospitality rider posted above looks legit to me as I use to see the entertainment contracts for the University of Iowa. I loved to read the hospitality riders to see what the artists requested. David’s is NOT a diva request. He’s mainly asking for PB&J sandwiches, drinks and cereal. She should see what some artists want! I don’t think we have to worry about getting information when these concerts take place. This is in a large arena where it would be impossible to police everyone with smart phones and cameras. I’m sure we will get tweets, videos and pictures. We will be in Archu-heaven, I hope!

David Archuleta surprises students at Homecoming opening ceremonies
By CreelaBelle Howard on October 6, 2015.
The audience screamed as David Archuleta took the stage at BYU’s Homecoming opening ceremonies in the Marriott Center Tuesday morning.
Vice President of Advancement Matthew Richardson pretended to host BYU Idol, a mock of reality TV show American Idol. He introduced the three judges and invited the contestants, Tori Pence, from Divine Comedy, and Vocal Point onto the stage. They all performed, but the judges said they did not qualify as a BYU Idol.
Richardson then said there was one last-minute contestant. Archuleta walked on stage and sang his first hit single, Crush, accompanied by an orchestra. He then performed his song from Meet the Mormons, Glorious, with the Cougarettes dancing in the background.
Archuleta came second in American Idol’s seventh season. He has since released six albums and served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chile.
Charlene Winters, BYU alumni activities chairwoman, paid Archuleta $5,000 for him to come without notifying the public. She said she knew many students would not get the opportunity to see Archuleta perform in the sold-out Homecoming Spectacular show.
“I wanted the students who cared enough to come to the opening ceremonies to experience that,” Winters said.
Archuleta was not originally scheduled to come to Provo this early. Winters confirmed he will fly out again before returning to perform at the Homecoming Spectacular.

It was so much fun yesterday to see all the tweets, Instagram pictures and videos of David at BYU Homecoming assembly yesterday. We are in for more fun on Thursday and Friday nights. Looks like there will be lots of videos and pictures. I too am glad that the amount David made for his appearance yesterday was deleted although as an ODD fan of David I was happy to see he made $5000 for the appearance. If he is to continue in the music business he needs enough money to support his business. There is his own living expenses plus paying his team and the band along with getting out the new music and marketing.

David Archuleta Amazes BYU Students with Surprise Performance (Video)

During BYU’s Homecoming opening ceremonies, students were shocked when David Archuleta took the stage to sing his first hit single “Crush” and “Glorious,” which was featured in the Church’s movie Meet the Mormons.
The surprise performance came while Advancement Vice President Matthew Richardson was pretending to host BYU Idol. 45…YW Abs. Hope you got a screen cap of David, there were some great closeups. I, too, can see his uncomfortableness (made that up) 🙂 being the center of attention. I also noticed it somewhat in the video with Nathan Pacheco. He may never outgrow it…just his personality. I’m the same way and as old as I am I still don’t like to be. I’m not a good talker either, my mind travels all over the place so I forget what I’m talking about! 🙂 Hard to stay focused for me when in front of people. One on one, I have no problem talking! 🙂 I’m glad that he is soooo good on stage with his God given talent.

Vocal Point is a nine member singing group that is just at BYU. And I think there is a time limit on how long a person can be in the group. It is like a “class” that goes for a certain time and performs, but then makes room for new people to have the experience. They record CDs and perform all around, but you will see different people in the group over time.

So while you were all sleeping I have been watching all the latest videos over and over again. Everybody Hurts and Nearer My God to Thee are my favourites.
He has killer eyes and his skin looks like it’s been airbrushed to perfection.
And that voice!!!!!! Oh my!!!!!!!!

Fen,
#104 I totally agree! And thanks for bringing that video here. 🙂
I’ve been reading around the sites to see what everyone thought. I see most mention NMGTT and EH. But after listening to the video in #104 I have to say, Nunca Pense is just not getting enough love. I thought it was really, really good. So ….
♥♥ Nunca Pense ♥♥
… Because it deserves an honorable mention. I love that song. 😀

OH MY GOSH!!!!!
My head is spinning. Who, how does he do this?
Thank you all who brought the heaven sent videos, comments, vocals here.
Every song was perfection, every single one. I mean PANDA? Please that rocked the house!!! All have their own David spun magic to them, I love them all and want to hear them over and over and over again, and I have, can’t stop.
What about the crowd? Crazzzzy!
This from pattycake who also graced us with twitter commentary and video 🙂

DH, she must have some spares because she kept broadcasting throughout the entire show.
I should look into that.

The Imagine video at 109 shows David introducing his accompanist on the guitar, Parker . In the silence following the smattering of applause someone in the audience shouts “we love you Parker”. Hence the look of amusement on David’s face.

Nathan and David will be singing The Prayer!!! (I’m dying here) according to this interview at the 43 min mark and David will be singing some songs. The interview was all in Spanish and great interview questions for Nathan. Have tweeted Bayly to invite David for an interview 🙂

Oh! All these videos and I can’t watch them….. not until I see it ‘live’ tonight!! My weekend is going to be spent viewing videos and downloading mp3’s (tough job). 😀
Dja #113… The Prayer! Please, Nathan, let there be video!! Hopefully, Bayly will take your suggestion and have David on his show. That would be awesomesauce!
Dayzee…. see you in a few!!!

“So I was worried about parking tonight but found if you get here 3 hours early parking is easy. Shauna and Patty came 2 hours later and parked next to me. Perhaps I could have waited.”
Dayzee, you are such a hoot! I realized at the last minute (busy doing taxes) that I actually had two tickets instead of one. ^_^ Fun! So I asked my son to take me. We got caught on the freeway and did not get there until just 10 minutes before it began. We parked fairly close in the stadium parking. Not bad at all.
Except….! When we got to the venue I could not find the tickets. I had been reading them and holding them in my hands in the car just minutes before. My son sprinted back to the car, but could not find them. We called home and had my daughter email copies of the tickets to me… (they will take a digital image if you have it.) While she was sending it, my son ran (literally) back to the car a second time and found the tickets under the car. (!!!!!!!) They were full 8.5×11 pieces of paper, so they were not hard to see. I must have dropped them from my lap when I got out of the car. *_*
My son teased me that I just wanted to see him run. ^_^
With all of that, we had good seats and got in our places just as they began introducing DA.
So, actually Dayzee, I think traveling with me would have given you a heart attack. Accompanying me is not for the faint of heart. You go girl!!
We had a great time. My son Joey is the one that made me listen to DA for the first time when he was on AI. He loved seeing him again and the performances were all we could have wished for: amazing, new – always new. He is so “small”. We know his “size” but he fills up the stage like he is four times the size of any other person.
He interprets the songs as though he were in the middle of a musical play: there is so much context when he sings that you are invited into his world, and like the children in the Wonka Factory – you just can’t see everything – there is so much going on, so many layers, meaning, coloring, and pathos, joy, light, and freedom.
We had fun. ^_^

We just got home from the second performance. It’s taken me the last hour to catch my breath! All I can say is heaven help us all if David keeps amping it up on Everybody Hurts… the close ups of his eyes, on the jumbo-tron, during this song were telling the story! I almost wept at feeling the emotion that he was putting into the song. I was a little nervous at first about hearing the music, any of it, over the sound system. After all, we were in a basketball stadium and sometimes it’s not the best sounding sounds. I don’t know what they did, but it was awesome! David’s voice filled that stadium with sounds that have never been there before! It was like it was reverberating in my heart.
The next best thing to seeing and hearing David tonight? After how many years, and how many times of being at the same concert but never sitting together, I got to sit by Dayzee tonight!!! Thanks my friend for the hugs and laughs! ♥♥

I haven’t commented in quite a while, but I still stop by regularly for my David updates and read everyone’s wonderful comments. I just had to pop in and say how much I appreciate and enjoy all the reports and videos that are being shared by so many…not to mention the hard work of the administrators. Thank you! Thank you! How wonderful it is to see David back up on the stage doing what he does best. So happy to hear that voice again!
