Historical Colonial Theater
Built by C.A. Spath, cashier of the Farmers and Merchants Bank; Dr. C.M. Cline, physician and S.K. Mittry, contractor: the Colonial Theater opened on November 10, 1919, at a cost of just over $175,000. It boasted one of the largest stages in the Intermountain West, a modern ramp (in lieu of stairs) to the balcony, a ventilation system, which circulated fresh air every five minutes and superb acoustics. Traveling vaudeville acts and minstrels entertained, as well as musical acts like John Phillips Sousa.
In 1929, it was renamed the Paramount Theater and began showing moving pictures. Sadly, it fell into disrepair in the late 1980’s and was closed.
In 1994, Dick Clayton, Sr. and his son Steve donated the theater to the Idaho Falls Arts Council, a private nonprofit organization.
The Idaho Falls Arts Council launched a capital campaign, known as the Phantom project. An anonymous donor challenged the community to raise half of the total cost and the Phantom would donate the remaining. The successful $4.2 million dollar campaign renovated the Colonial Theater and the adjacent buildings into a beautiful visual and performing arts center for the region.
Renamed for the Phantom donors, Miles and Virginia Willard, who also chaired the campaign, the Willard Arts Center now contains a visual arts building with galleries, classrooms, artist studios, meeting spaces for events, and much more.
Today the 988 seat Colonial Theater is one of three large theaters of historical significance which still remain in Idaho. In 2014 alone, the Colonial Theater played host to over 25,000 patrons.

Tomorrow!!!! Can I just say that it makes me wiggly in my seat to have nothing to check out before tomorrow morning!! The panicky, tummy in a knot, let’s get this done, feelings have re-appeared! For all the smooth, hushed, and beautiful feelings that David creates when he sings and entertains, they get overpowered when it’s time to purchase concert tickets!! #crazybutloveit

Hope it sells out fast just like the others! Another month almost gone, November will be here before I know it. 🙂 I had a thought…the last concert I was at was with Dayzee when David made his announcement at his last concert. And now, we will both be together again attending his first concert since being back from his mission. Cool!! That is with almost 4 years in between…where does the time go!
Will be on a road trip to Austin and Dallas for the next 5 days for my twin grandsons graduation from college and to see my nephews. Will try and keep up with things on my phone or my tablet. Ta ta!! 🙂

2.Jan,
We have had a lot of rain and flooding in North Texas, and the Austin hill country, with more rain expected over the next few days so travel safely to see those smart grandsons of yours!! Congratulations to both of them!
Gosh, sounds so weird to say 4 years ago doesn’t it.wow
Today,I went to check on my old neighbor,Millie and have a visit.
She is a David fan, she was in “I’ll Be Here”DA 2014 fan video
and I visit with her and also share any news about D so she is always up to speed on what I know. She is 94 now. Anyway, long story short, I played the latest song for her today..”He Showed Me How”. She took out her hearing aids, and told me to play full volume, and I put my earbuds to her ears.I could hear the song begin and when David started singing, she looked at me, and covered her mouth, and tears started rolling down her face and they continued ,as I reached out and put my hand on her arm. By the end she was mouthing the refrain.
She said “idk what happened, his voice is just so beautiful…. that was just so beautiful.”♥♥♥
I have promised if he comes here,I will make sure to take her. She sure would love that.love her. My dream now, I hold hope,it will be possible.
Tawna, you make me smile:)

Skydancer, your story warms my heart! I especially like when Millie covered her mouth in awe of that VOICE! She says she doesn’t know what happened? I so understand! Davids singing has a richness, smoothness, and matured so wonderfully! I’m hoping you can take Millie to see him live. Nothin’ like it! #hopingformidwestconcert!

Sky what a beautiful story. Made me tear up..what a sweet lady. I made a small error on saying that it will be the first concert. He will have some before but it was the first ones announced! ☺ 😆 thanks for the weather forecast. We’ve been having lots of rain in kansas too so hope we escape a lot of it. We’re in Oklahoma now and so far so good!

From the Colonial Theater ad “American Idol darling, David Archuleta”. I had almost forgotten he was an AI darling. But I guess he was. Doesn’t seem to fit the David I see now. haha Dja, thanks for reminding me to buy those tickets.
Jan, how great that you will be spending some time with your grandsons and other family. Hug them tight.
Thanks Tawna for writing about your butterflies. I thought I might be crazy. “Tickets tomorrow” is looping in my head. Won’t be an easy sleep tonight.
I had a washing machine repairman who could only come Friday morning or not until after Memorial Day. I told him Tuesday would be fine. No one is going to distract me Friday a.m.
Sky, Millie sounds delightful. And she has a good neighbor.

Oh my! David’s management needs to send out the press info to venues so that he is treated like the man he is now, not a child. What kind of audience do they think they are targeting with that kind of verbiage?
Safe travels Jan!
Sky I am so happy you got to reconnect with Millie. I used to have a client about her age (she passed over in March) who loved to hear me talk about David news and hear his music. She did the same thing of covering her mouth and tears. I think it was Oh Ven Emanual that she loved so much.
Good luck on tickets today ladies 🙂

Here’s what happened to me:
8:30 texting with Tawna trying to keep ourselves from internal combustion
856 realized I needed a credit card to buy tickets. Fumbled in my purse.
9:00 called Idaho Falls. “I’d like to purchase David Archuleta tickets” Put on hold
9:01…9:02…9:03 Tinkly music driving me crazy. I am dying here.
9:04 “Can I help you?” ” Need David Archuleta tickets.” “Oh, those don’t go on sale until 9:30”. Whaaat? Can I trust this person? Check on the internet. No ticket sales for DA listed.
9:10 to 9:29 lots of hand wringing.
9:30 Got right through. Bought tickets, front row on the aisle. Am I happy? Was it worth it? You betcha!
When I got up this morning my furnace would not turn on and I already had a broken washing machine. Tons of people coming today to stay at my home for grandson’s Saturday wedding. Am I smiling? Oh yeah!

Sky,
You’re a class act! It’s so nice of you to keep Millie up to date on David’s new songs. That her eyes welled-up with tears shows that she gets him, like we do. His voice touches a place in our hearts that can’t be reached by other singers. It’s phenomenal is what it is.
Tawna and Dayzee are lucky ducks. 🙂
