I recently came across this interview of Ashton Kutcher on Ellen, talking about his speech at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards. He won the Teen Choice Award for “Ultimate Choice.”
Here is the actual speech he gave.
In 2008, David won the Teen Choice Award for “Most Fanatic Fans” and “Best Smile.” In 2009, he won the Teen Choice Award for “Breakout Artist of the Year,” “Best Love Song (Crush)” and “Best Tour (with Demi Lovato).” In 2010, he won “Best American Idol Alum.”
Now it is 2014 and David is no longer a teen. He is a grown man making choices that will affect the rest of his life. I find it interesting that while listening to Ashton’s views on life and the decisions/attitudes young people should adopt to be successful, I thought of David. Listen as Ashton elaborates the three talking points of his speech:
“The first thing is about opportunity. The second thing is about being sexy. And the third thing is about living life.”
In what ways do you think this view reflects/deviates from the path David is on now?

Holy Cow!!! There are good, young people with a brain that works! This speech leaves me speechless. It took a lot of courage for Ashton to deliver this kind of message. But, what an amazing forum to be in for it. How lucky those teens were that were there to have been able to hear this from one of their idols. Oh yes. In my mind, this is just the message that David is trying to publish. Kudos to Ashton, and David, for caring enough about others to let them know what is important, and to not back down from their beliefs and standards. ♥

I love this post, Angelica! Ashton is such a good role model, as well as David. Everything he says sounds like David. Because the speech and what David believes are both good and decent. Not like the “crap” out there that some “stars” think they have to go through to make them popular.
To me, the way “opportunity” parallels with David is that he feels so grateful that he has the voice that he has and wants to share it by staying in the music industry. He loves it. But he wants to take this down time opportunity and get his education too. The 2nd one “sexy”. He never did think he was and now coming from his mission, he doesn’t want to go out on concerts and “let it go”! I mean if you look at a lot of his videos, it just shows, he is, he can’t help it. His charisma, his modesty and sweetness makes him sexy whether he likes it or not! 🙂 3rd, for the first time in his life he is “living life” the way he wants. No one is telling him what to do but he knows what he wants. I think he wants to find a MKOP, get married and have a family, intertwining it with his music life. He always said that the 3 things in his life is faith, family and fans!
I’m just hanging around to see what he does next, hoping I can see him sing live again someday.
On a side note, I always like Ashton, because my grandson looks like him! 🙂 Really, he is a great actor and has a great sense of humor.

Really enjoyed re-visiting this thought provoking speech from Ashton. Such a smart young man and, like so many, I recognize the parallel with David’s phase of life since his return from his Mission. It helps me to better understand the changes taking place. I needed to visit your blog today, Angelica. So glad I did. Ashton isn’t the only smart young man. That being said, I will always savor the memories of the past six years and the ultimate joy that “young David” brought to this fandom.

Wonderful article A. and wonderful to see you! Am running due to …. family!! However, I recently saw a new interview with Jason Castro. He spoke of his experience with the mainstream music industry and how he decided to take his talents in another direction and is doing Christian music. Gotta tell you… that season of AI …. there must have been something in the water. ^_^
Not saying they all turned “religious”, that is not what I mean. Just that they were and are some really fine people, who seem amazingly grounded as they study life and its choices.

Ashton Kutcher is so believable playing silly characters on TV that it’s easy to forget that he’s really a standup guy with a lot to offer. He was courageous to relay his ideas to an audience of impressionable teenagers who have been fed so much but the truth in song lyrics by following celebrities they idolize.
Stressing the value of hard work to achieve one’s goals and the importance of being smart, thoughtful and generous in making wise choices to build your own life reminds me of the way David has always lived his life.

I just spent 4 days in Salt Lake City this last week at a convention. Part of it was held at the Salt Palace Convention Center and we would longingly pass by Abravanel Hall when we had to walk past it. The other part of it was held at the Energy Solutions Arena. Hmmm, The ESA is right across the street from the BYU/Salt Lake campus and The Depot where David was seen in his car. My companion (happens to be an avid Archie Fan) and I may have squeed a bit. And we just may have scanned closely, but from a distance, the cars in the parking lot for a white hybrid (nope not there). Yeah, we probably did do that! 🙂 #iwillnothangmyheadinshame

That was the “Crazy” that got us hooked so it makes sense that it grabbed you too.
I think the striped thing he’s wearing was a scarf, I was at the Newark show but he wore something different when he performed.

Angelica, Perfect!!! Ashton Kutcher is talking about exactly what David is doing, what he is building. That takes time and planning. I don’t know much about Ashton but very smart in what he said and where he said it. As we wait for David’s timing we can try to prepare for what’s to come or can we? lol

Love the new photos on the set in Costa Rica! David’s looking really sharp! I still think he was shooting a video for his new Spanish song. 🙂 Why Costa Rica was chosen for the locale, don’t know. But it’s beautiful, that’s for sure!

Sometimes words from songs cross your mind as you are reading the sites. As I was reading somewhere else I thought “It’s Not For Me To Say” of course that belongs to Johnny Mathis. So I looked it up and the version I found has pictures that bring David to mind. You can see glances of him in so many
places. I think it will make you smile.

Jans11…I had my own little cringe at the sight of the cigarette but as I had in discussion with a friend the other day, cigarettes were of no concern and so very common years ago. Why people never wondered what the smoke inhaled was doing to them shows us we can ignore just about anything.
I always loved Johnny Mathis and like David, his smile is memorable.

I listened to “Glorious” today, the original of course. I was surprised that it didn’t sound very religious since it’s going into a religious film. (I think it is, anyway. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong about that.) It sounded like it was more about what David said in his vlog, about discovering “who you are” and taking your place in the world. The original is very pretty and very sweet. I’m curious what changes David will incorporate to make it his own, as he usually does. I’m looking forward to hearing it in David’s beautiful voice.
