I wonder if he’s going.
I wonder if it’s true.
Is he going to matriculate?
To good ole BYU?
I wouldn’t blame him if he did.
Aim higher at some learning.
I wouldn’t blame him
Aim sky high!
Just don’t forget
Us down here yearning.
For the music and the VOICE
That in this moment
Made us weep,
The next rejoice.
Still waiting patiently,
Impatiently,
The next rejoice.

I hope he DOES go. Why shouldn’t he better himself and do what most people get to do? All of my kids/step kids have attended college. I wouldn’t want anything less for him.

I don’t know what he’s going to do anymore. He always seems to catch me by surprise. I just hope he’s happy with whatever it is.
Nice puzzle, Abrra! You can never have too many David smiles. 🙂

BYU has extensive and diverse performing arts and music classes. Lindsey Stirling, the dancing violist, went to BYU and now she is making her own music videos. She can take it through the whole process on her own. She now has millions of followers on YouTube and holds concerts all over the world. She went on a church mission and then to college before making it big. So, I’ll guess we’ll see when David is ready to tell us.

No it’s not real. Just a photo shopped image while we wait for the day after Labor Day, when classes start. Actually new student orientation begins this week so we may know sooner, IF it’s true.
A big part of me, well maybe not so big because it’s the unselfish part, lol, hopes it is true. A university education is a refining experience not just intellectually, but socially. I’d like him to get more theory behind him and become more well-read. I’d like him to not always be the little guy from AI with only a high school GED. That he be taken seriously has always been my wish for him. He could hone his piano skills and finally learn to read music! Pretty important for a musician and would keep those pesky melodies from leaving his head, if he could write them down as they come to him. He could develop his creative writing skills. Maybe take some theater and performing arts classes. There is a great dance department at BYU. The short time I was there I took a beginning jazz dance class and it was WAY beyond me since the dance we had to learn was Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” Say what? I barely mastered the first day’s assignment of walking across the room without tripping. There was a modern dance recital I attended while there that was just amazing. There was one all-male performance that culminated with them all leaping so high into the air, backs arched, one rising as another descended only to rise again, done in complete silence. It was mesmerizing. I would not mind if David took some classes in dance, either jazz or Latin. I’m sure he would do much better than I did as he is a natural. Just needs more confidence.
I don’t know whether he’s going to college or not but I am at peace with it. I know he can produce music and do concerts too. Heck, I worked a full-time job in the ICU the whole time I went to college, some weeks putting in 72 hours at the hospital and still managed a full class load.
My posting this is not all speculation. I’m not a very good stalker, lol, but it doesn’t take one to pull up the BYU directory for Fall 2014 and type in David Archuleta.

I’m with you. I hope David enrolls in college. I’ll never regret those four years of learning, of self-discovery, the lifelong friends I made, nutty professors, the smell of the school bookstore, lousy cafeteria food, doing assignments under shady trees, the Chow Chow truck…four years of fun and learning. I wish those four years on anyone who is thinking of enrolling.

You can go to http://www.jigsawplanet.com/ and make an account (free), then upload any image from your computer from the “create” menu at the top right.
Or you can do any of the pre-made puzzles on the home page.

Your comment is so well thought out. It’s what every parent wishes their child would glean from a college education. He has spent his whole youth focused on singing. It’s time he had the opportunity to focus on gaining the skills that a professional musician needs in his tool box.
If it turns out that he won’t be attending college, I trust that he will realize the areas that need improvement and seek out mentors to help him.
I did do a search, since you mentioned it. His name does come up. Nothing more, just his name.

Abrra, thanks for the Sunday puzzles. We often had a jigsaw puzzle in the works when I was growing up. It was a great place for gathering with family and friends. The accepted format was for all the pieces to be set right side up. Then all of the edges must be put together before we could mess with the middle. All my life I have obeyed these basic customs. Until you began posting these delightful David pics. Now I am finding all the David parts first and then I can take my time with the peripheral areas. When solving the puzzles in the traditional manner I was always anxious and in a hurry to finish. Now I can take my time and leisurely finish up while enjoying just looking at what is on the screen. I do find it odd that David has been the impetus for disobeying the rules.
A few years ago Angelica defined peripheral as any thing other than David. Since then whenever I see that word I think “Oh, not David”
Chat was great last night. I appreciate all who make Saturday night so special.

That is how do puzzles, edges first. Every family has their “rules”.
I worked for a lady who did her puzzles on the dinning room table. I never forgot her rules. 1) Never look at the picture on the box and 2) work from the bottom to the top. That was way to strict for me. I told her how I did them and she got quite irritated, said I was cheating. 😉
Cuff me and send me to jail 🙂
Thanks for the kind words about Unplugged. Can’t wait for some fresh, new, shiny videos from David.

David even makes a good looking fake student card! 🙂 Good job Angelica! I hope David goes to college if he desires. Education is so important and it will give him the good times and memories that college gives too. Something that would be so good for him since he has worked so hard and put himself on the back burner at such a young age to get his career jump started. He would be leading a normal life for a change and it would be good for him. He can still record and even have concerts. Not at the pre-mission rate, but it would be enough for me anyway just knowing that he is just “doing his thing” and being happy. And a lot of students have classes on-line now and that’s a whole new concept that would give him even more free time to do music.
I got to get on line tonight after going out on the Showboat Branson Belle today. It was fun but HOT! 100*!
Another fun puzzle, Abs!

David honing in his skills at BYU and writing in Nashville! Sounds way awesome to me! I was a music major at BYU. It is a program of excellence and huge competition! They have a really great new major called Commercial Music within the music department where one learns not only tons of music theory and composition but one learns how to produce their own music. So.. if D decides to perfect his craft at BYU, more power to him! What an awesome ride! and! excited about Nashville! 😀

MUNKM, I wonder what it would be like to have someone who’s already a seasoned professional musician as a student in those classes. Would he be studying things he’s already had a ton of experience in? I went as far as my Master’s in the architecture field, and yet I felt that 90% of what I learned came from actually working in the profession.

HI Cc Halo! I think anyone can always learn more and perfect/grow a talent by associating with other gifted people in many areas and genres. There is a whole world of music and history of music out there. I took piano from a professor of music from the time I was 7. I also took music theory from her all those years. When I went to BYU, there was much I already knew but there were also holes in my education. I don’t know if that’s what David is doing but if he chooses to take advantage of those professors there, they are quite gifted in many areas. I think he would love it. Its been great to see him grow as an artist. I am excited to see what he creates! 😀

Cchalo and Munk,
Interesting, experience versus schooling. I can tell you that there isnt a school that could’ve taught me what I needed to know to perform my job yet there have been some invaluable courses that have been specifically designed to fill the gaps by some very smart folks. If David can tap into courses where he can hone his genius by all means go for it. And of course put into practice what you master as you go to feed the hungry beast 🙂

Thanks for sharing that info. It seems like a perfect fit for David. My husband majored in music in college too but many moons ago and not BYU. At that time the up and coming major was music therapy. Time flies!
