“You make each day a special day. You know how, by just your being you.”
Fred Rogers (1928-2003)
Television Host, Educator, Minister, Songwriter
There are a number of things that I admire about David Archuleta but I never imagined how he would affect my life. How he tugs at my heart in a way that no celebrity has ever done. How he has become a necessary member of my family. A beautiful voice, incredible musician, charismatic personality, endearing kind-hearted soul… well, this list could go on and on. But when he shared his life and opened his heart, little did I know how he would introduce me to people from all over the world. How people I didn’t know or yet to meet would become as dear and important as David himself. Friendships that have touched my life in surprising ways. Funny thing is that I don’t make it a habit of ‘talking’ to strangers in cyberspace. And yet, I’ve never felt more comfortable in doing so, a result of a unique kinship, one that interlinks fellow fans in appreciation of all things related to David. It’s unexplainable. Enriching. A blessing. And I am grateful beyond words.
Last December, when I saw David’s beautiful smile and sparkling eyes, proudly holding the lovely birthday book put together by Shelley, my heart was full of gratitude for all that David had done but it also reminded me of how he has bridged and nurtured a worldwide circle of friends, people with incredible spirit, talent, wit, humor, thoughtfulness, kindness, generosity and caring. Such friendships are a precious gift that no money could buy; illuminated and elevated through the magic of David. How fitting that there is a holiday to acknowledge the importance of friends. The United Nations designated July 30th to be International Friendship Day but it’s also celebrated on August 4th in some areas. In 1998, Winnie the Pooh was designated the Ambassador of Friendship. If there is any person that would be the perfect ambassador for International Friendship Day, David gets my vote. What personally started as a very private solo experience has become a public soul-stirring journey and to be able to share that with friends who understand what it’s all about has made it a road trip of a lifetime, creating a wonderful scrapbook of irreplaceable memories and so much fun.
“We will be friends until forever, just you wait and see.“
– Winnie the Pooh
The world would be one very lonely and sad place without friends. So thank you all for welcoming, encouraging and sharing as you have made me laugh, cry, be inspired, think, learn, and yes, dare I say, grow as a person. Whether on good days or bad ones, you give me a reason to smile. How fortunate that there is a fandom centered around the unique specialness of David to celebrate his musical journey. The beauty of being a fan is that irregardless of the differences, similarities or reasons that have brought us here, what matters the most is what connects us all: our interest, care, love and support for an incredible singer, an extraordinary person and one who has left an indelible imprint on our hearts. Whether during times of feast or famine, this is my hope that as long as David Archuleta will have us, we will never go away. So here’s to celebrating each and every one of YOU! A huge thank you to David, for he’s allowed us to create cherished memories of friendships that will last a lifetime. How amazing is that? Happy Friendship Day! And when you get a chance, share an Archuhug today!
“Friendship is the golden thread that ties the heart of all the world.”

Good article, Blueberry! Every sunday morning at church we gave out hugs at a meet and greet before singing our hymns! Wonder what they would say if I called them my “archuhugs”!!!!! They may understand since they all know that I’m a big fan of David. 🙂
I also thank everyone for being a friend and helping me grow since Bob passed. After 47 yrs of marriage, it’s like your right arm is gone and with me delving into all David things the last 5 yrs, it has helped me so much to become my own person. 🙂 It is so much fun to be able to talk to people with the same ideas and goals without be kidded or have to watch the rolling of the eyes! Friends from all over the world is something I never dreamed that would happen. And David’s friends are so special, never was afraid to fly solo to meet fans that I didn’t know. Just knew they would be ok because they were a fan of David’s! Thank you, David’s fans! ♥

Jane, you wrote what’s on my mind. I have made many friends in just a short period of time being a David Archuleta fan. Although majority of them are cyberspace friends, there were also many that I’ve had the opportunity to meet in person. Two of them are you and Djafan (Patty), whom I met thru this wonderful site. I have to thank The Voice for being instrumental in this wonderful journey of friendship. Everybody that I’ve met in person are extraordinarily wonderful people. It just shows how wonderful the artist we admire because it reflects the wonderful(ness) in us as fans. I know there will be more friends for me to meet when David returns.

Beautiful article and I wholeheartedly agree! Through David we have made unexpected connections to people all over the world. How amazing!! Discovering David added so much to my life. The friendships I’ve made through him has multiplied that.
In the beginning, I thought I was all alone in my strange fascination with David. Once I discovered that I wasn’t the only one, it opened up a whole new world. I wandered a bit lost for quite a while, just reading and never taking part in the discussions. Then I landed here. 😀 I was welcomed here and have made some wonderful (in person and online) friendships thanks to David, ones that I will treasure always. ♥
I can’t wait till he returns and tours so I can meet some (hopefully many) of you! We seriously need a David fan gathering (with him present, and singing, of course) upon his return. 🙂

Yes, “Amen” to your words, Blueberry Ice! It all goes perfectly with Archugeezer’s quote on the left! Your 1st quote of Fred Rogers especially touched me, as my husband graduated from seminary with Fred. By end of your post, I was teary-eyed, having experienced everything, as you and all of us here at The Voice have. With his voice and undeniable love for everyone, David has bound us together in unexplainable ways. Can you even imagine what it’s going to be like when he returns and we are all together, whether right there at his 1st concert or following on a cybercast, perhaps? What a gift/blessing it will be! I’m here every day and most Tues. and Sat. nights (in the balcony) but haven’t posted in quite a while. A huge ‘thank you’ to all of you @ The Voice, who keep this wonderful website going to support David. What excellent writers here; there’s a line or 2 or 3 in every post that should be written in a published article some day!

Bravo! Thank you for your heartwarming article on friendship and how lucky we are as fans of David’s to get this icing on a very delicious cake.
Being a fan of David’s is a wonderful journey in itself! We must be doing something right to be blessed with the opportunity to make new friends through this fanbase and being able to meet up later at concerts! Some of David’s fans have become my closest friends!
When you meet a new fan it’s “like at immediate sight”! There’s a trust that is there….like the time a fan who I met for the first time (and later became my dear friend) asked me to check through her purse for her hotel key. I had just met her a few hours prior to the concert and there I was with my hands in her purse! I couldn’t find her key; she found it herself but that she trusted me enough to go through her purse speaks volumes about the trust between fans!
Happy Friendship Day!
Let’s celebrate the friendships we have made because of David Archuleta.

Jans; I love the idea of giving out Archuhugs at church! David has helped us all through some difficult times and though I can’t imagine the pain of losing your husband, I’m glad that friends made through David has been there for you. You said it best, “David’s friends are so special!”
MsPoohBear; As rewarding as it is to have cyberfriends, there is nothing like getting together in person and having fun like you’ve been friends forever. Can’t wait to do it again! David has that magical effect of attracting wonderful people! I highly recommend an Archu-get-together for those who have yet to go to one! It’s the next best thing short of going to a David show! Actually, both is a must!
Rooster; Haha … words of the wise! “David’s flock”! I like the sound of that. Yes, this old bird definitely concurs with you!

Sky; Yep, David has affected each of our lives so personally and collectively. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate his journey than with all of you who understands what it means & likewise very grateful to have you in my life! Yes to this: “Love this fanbase”!!!!!!!
Bebe; I don’t know if I would have taken this step without your encouragement and kindness but it feels good to express the beauty of what friendships mean and how special it is because of David. Thank you for taking the leap and gracing us with your wonderful words. It is a scary thing to do the first time particularly when it’s out of our comfort zone and the self doubt comes in but you’ve done a magnificent job describing this journey of friendship building via @davidarchie, it still amazes me. The instant familiarity when meeting our online friends in person is uncanny but what a treat. I’ve had the pleasure of having lunch with you and Winnie and what great times we have had (need to get together real soon).
Yesterday several got together in Palm Desert and I would have loved to go but it wasn’t doable. You and all who join in here make this place a home for all of us. I treasure all of your sharing because it does make this “wait” more bearable.
I’m so looking forward to the new memories we’ll be making and sharing when David returns. I get butterflies with the anticipation of David’s first tweet, vlog and concert, it’s going to be epic, I just know it.
So thank you Blueberry for sharing with us and I hope we get to read more of you beautiful writing ♥

A few years ago when I was leaving to spend some time with David friends I had not yet met in person, my granddaughter sat me down and talked to me about the dangers of meeting people I had met on the internet. She said, “Grams, you know if it were me going you would worry. What’s the difference?”
Actually, I was quite pleased that she had figured out the internet could be dangerous. And I was pleased that she would worry about me. What is the difference? David. These are David people. And they make the bestest friends.

It is quite lovely really!!
What I read from you is refreshing and so very true about the relationships that we have been freely given.
Our youngest is getting married in a Carriage House we have been calling the ‘CH’ whenever we refer to it. It has taken on a mystical feel because CH is the start of church and chapel. It is called a different thing on any given day. The contractors are gone now and the bricklayers are laying the path to the big wooden doors. The windows look out over the valley and it is there that the minister will perform the ceremony. The interior is built like the 17th century carriage houses. The first reading is by a close cousin who will stand at the podium and read from Winnie the Pooh’s “Now We Are Six” wedding reading…. (All Pooh Bear lovers have a look). Just a few more days!! Oh the preparations, and near calamities!!
Hurry home David!! Can I say that??

Taking a moment while everyone’s in Nandito Ako chat to say how much I love the thoughts you have expressed here, Blueberry Ice, and the ones you have also inspired. I have often said that half the fun of a David concert is meeting up with the fans. We spend as much or more time together before and after the concert as we do at the concert itself! And everyone I’ve met has been just wonderful and warm and fun. I never dreamed I would ever meet up with anyone I talked to online, but as you and others have said, David fans are just some of the best folks you could ever meet. When I first began this David journey I also never dreamed where it would take me: in ways I have been forced to grow and all the great people that have come into and enriched my life. I remember David reading that Dr. Seuss book to the kids at a school, “Oh the places you’ll go!” And boy have we gone! So far I have been to Utah, Arizona, Cleveland, (twice) New York, Pennsylvania, Orlando, Tulsa, Memphis and probably leaving some places out. haha. It has and continues to be a most excellent adventure! My first concert ever, during the AI tour, I met up and rode with a woman I had met online on another David site. It was as though we had always known each other from the start. Since then, we have been to many other concerts and every month we meet in her town or mine, an hour apart to have what we call our “Archulunch.” In fact, tomorrow morning, I’m going with her on a mini vacation to Florida with her teen daughter and her daughter’s bff. Be back Sunday but will be in touch with iphone and kindle. Love how you put this, “What personally started as a very private solo experience has become a public soul-stirring journey and to be able to share that with friends who understand what it’s all about has made it a road trip of a lifetime, creating a wonderful scrapbook of irreplaceable memories and so much fun.”
How true! Looking forward to so much more and seeing many of you again and meeting so many of you I haven’t yet met.

My granddaughter said she heard “Touch My Hand” at a motel that she and some friends were at in Springfield, Mo. She doesn’t remember the name of the motel. And I heard “Crush” a few hours ago in our local grocery store, Pricechopper! I couldn’t believe it and I had to walk around and look at other things trying not to act too giddy until it was over. Then I walked out the door doing the happy dance on the way to the car!! 🙂

Jans; I’m jealous that your store plays David’s music. Funny but the one time that I heard Crush recently played in a store was sung by some unknown person. I guess it’s a compliment when someone covers your song but it was such a letdown not to hear David’s lovely voice.

It’s not just about David anymore (although it is still a LOT about him LOL) This fandom is also about sharing. Along with videos and photos, we have shared our feelings and lives with each other over the years. David has brought together a wonderful group of giving, caring, sharing people and he is the central pin that holds us all together.

I have been away for a bit and when I came back and read your post, I thought; How true, how very, very true! This is exactly what I think. I am a private person by nature and can tend to “hibernate” when things get a bit overwhelming. One of the things I love most about this site is that: I can be myself. I appreciate the leadership (because that is what it IS! ^_^) by those who work so hard to hold up this site and make this forum available to so many. It is a very DA thing to do.
I hope to get the time to read all the thoughts above.. but whether I do or not.. know that I love you all so much and totally am on board for the next YEAR!!! Can you even imagine what we may be doing or talking about O.n.e Y.e.a.r F.r.o.m. T.o.d.a.y. !!!!!!!!!
Till then… know that I am always here.

I do this film festival every year around the same time. I was just remembering the summer of 2008 when I got on my daughter’s computer up here to check on all things david while I was away. The next year Idid the same thing and even got on one of the festival’s computers (people typically use them to find venues, timed, places to eat) I was using it to check twitter and saw that David had surprised everyone by singing Bubbly.
Thank goodness times have changed and I have a smartphone. Nothing seems out of reach anymore. 🙂
But remember Bubbly? 4 years ago guys. ❤

I want to thank all of you great David friends for your prayers and good wishes for my son. After a month in a hospital here with no improvement he was taken by LifeFlight to Craig’s Hospital in Denver, where they specialize in brain trauma and spinal cord injuries. He has been there for a week now and there has been amazing progress. They plan to keep him for 8 weeks. I had about run out of hope, but now many things seem possible. I appreciate your concern for me and my family. Gosh, I joined the right club when I joined up here.
SB, I am hoping for a wedding pic or two.
Betsy, 4 years since Bubbly? Are you certain? It seems like my years are only lasting 6 months. Except for the missing David part. I remember someone criticizing David for singing a girl song. LOL

Betsy; Appreciate you dropping by! Hope you’re having a great time at the film festival. Oh, they wouldn’t be previewing a certain international film or errr, TV show (NA) would they, lol! Just watched Bubbly & wow, love his tone & playfulness … so good to rewatch it again! And isn’t funny how one can’t leave home without your smartphone nowadays.
MT; Smiling when you said this,”It’s not just about David anymore (although it is a LOT about him LOL). This fandom is about sharing.” Yes, sharing and caring among fans along with discussing everything related to David for as long as we have is quite remarkable indeed. Hope it continues!
Bluesky; Glad to see you! I can’t imagine what we’ll be talking about or doing in a year from now but as long as David is back & we are in it together, it will be something worth looking forward to. 7 months left … we can make it!
Dayzee; That is wonderful news to hear about how your son is improving! Thank you for letting us know & continued prayers for his complete recovery. {{{hugs}}}

Gladys,
I didn’t get a chance to tell you how much I love your collage! Keep them coming, please!
Betsy,
So sweet of you to check in with us while on vacation! What’s that expression? You can take the girl away from her computer but it won’t stop her from checking on David. Or something like that! 😉
And Bluesky,
Welcome Back! Isn’t there a wedding coming up in your family as well as SB’s?
Dayzee,
I was thrilled to read your last comment about how your son has improved! Sending prayers that he continues to progress to having his full health restored!
Blueberry Ice,
Just wanted to let you know again how very much we appreciated this article for Friendship Day and for your timely responses. {{{{{Thank you!}}}}}

Dayzee – How truly special it is to read your positive words about your dear son; may God continue to bless him and your family on his road to recovery.
This is such a nice gathering place and even though I pretty much just sit on the sidelines I have derived much pleasure and comfort here over the years.
Blueberry Ice – Your beautifully-written article says it all. Perfectly. Can’t wait to see what surprises our returning David will have in store for this ‘world of friends’.

Dayzee!! I am so thrilled to hear your good news after this long time. I cannot imagine how hard this has been for you. All my support and love to you and your family. May the improvements continue. What a great team for you to find!
Bebereader… *_* I get embarrassed sometimes when I drop away. Sometimes, like Stenocruiser, I am on the sidelines. Often, I am just busy with work. Being self-employed… I am never away from the Boss and she can be a bit demanding. ^_^ Other times I just crave solitude: it is my healer and my inspiration when I get overwhelmed or my health acts up. That is why I am so grateful that this group lets us each be just as we are. Even in solitude, I do not feel separated from this group. I love and appreciate you all so very much.
Yes, my Amazing! Son Jon got married recently. (I now have the cutest daughter-in-law in the world. Just sayin’.) And… I went to Bali for a conference. And… I made two new videos for my work FB. And.. I did a week of research for an update on a manual I am doing with my friend. And… stuff. Nothing more or less than each of you have: life and family.
I feel DA coming closer. He is (I imagine… knowing how it was for my sons) feeling the pull of the future while at the same time being deeply committed to the present. The difference for him is that unlike some returning missionaries, he has a pretty good idea what he will be jumping into. I imagine that all his plans he set in place are simmering. And… (his “and” not mine… chuckle) that the simmering will develop into something somewhat different than he imagined. But better. He has been well-schooled in the experience of the unexpected. May all good things come his way.
All my best,
bluesky

Loved your article so much! {{{hugs}}} Such a nice reminder of all the ways David has enriched our lives. ♥
Dayzee,
I’m so happy to hear that you’ve found a place that can do so much for your son and that he’s showing improvement. Will continue praying for him and your family.
Bluesky,
Congratulations on your son’s marriage! And this: “He has been well-schooled in the experience of the unexpected.”
I love the way you put that and it really made me think about how he’ll be different on his return. It sounds like the boy that left will return a man who’s ready to deal with whatever is thrown at him. I think he’ll be more confident, more in command.
Hahaha Are we ready for it????? 😮
I think so. 😉

Blueberry Ice, I have so loved reading your beautiful article and subsequent comments. You expressed my sentiments perfectly here –
“So thank you all for welcoming, encouraging and sharing as you have made me laugh, cry, be inspired, think, learn, and yes, dare I say, grow as a person. Whether on good days or bad ones, you give me a reason to smile. ”

Stenocruiser; Hello! It would be wonderful to have a world of friends welcoming & supporting David when he returns & see what surprises are in store for us.
Bluesky; I too have felt what you’ve shared when you said this, “That is why I am so grateful that this group lets us each be just as we are. Even in solitude, I do not feel separated from this group. I love and appreciate you all so very much.” It’s remarkable sometimes how sentiments expressed are so profoundly identifiable. Belated congrats on your son’s marriage!
Emmegirl; Nice to see you … appreciate your kind words!
Thank you all for being here and a special thank you to the dedicated and creative minds of The Voice admins and writers in giving us a good place for a world of friends to gather in celebrating the wonderful artistry of David.

Thanks, Gladys for the video in #63. At such a young age David already had so much control over his voice. I just wish he would sing “I Could Not Ask For More” again one day soon.
It’s a beautiful love song and David is, after all, the master at singing love songs.
