On March 28, 2012, American Idol star and Platinum recording artist David Archuleta left on a 2 year Mormon mission.
In his absence, David’s team has successfully managed to keep his music career thriving by regularly releasing projects prepared before he left and by effectively harnessing the power of modern technology and social media to fully engage with fans around the work and to enlist their aid in keeping his name prominently in the public eye.
What David Archuleta and his team have accomplished this past year is something even fans doubted could be done. To an outsider looking in, David seems busier than ever before and certainly more busy than some artists actively pursuing their music careers. This is a testament to his incredible preparation before leaving, a marketing strategy effectively tailored to promote an artist not available to promote his work, and the undying support of one of the most committed fanbases in the world.

David Archuleta ~ That’s What Makes You Beautiful

When I first saw David on American Idol back in 2008 I was immediately drawn to him because of his angelic singing voice. But there was something else that drew me in, something powerful yet hard to define at the time. He was so captivating for a boy of 17. And very endearing. It was refreshing to see a young person with manners and so much integrity. His character, good nature, million dollar smile, infectious laugh and the way he showed grace under pressure together with the sound of his voice all contributed to my never missing a night of Season 7.
More than five years have passed since his Idol audition. I watched as he grew and changed. His personality unfolded before our eyes. He blossomed into a handsome young man whose inner beauty shines through. Edith nailed it when she said, “I’ve admired you not only for your singing but for your person.”
By now, his voice and his beauty play equal parts in why I’m his fan for life. Each enhances the other. He is just as beautiful as his voice and I’ve grown to respect him for all that he is and all that he is yet to become.

Here at The Voice we offer a chance to chat and watch David sing on our UNPLUGGED channel on Livestream. Every Saturday night fans gather together to share the enjoyment of watching David Archuleta perform and talk about his career in videos. For me, it might be the single most enjoyable part of the week.
We have fun discussing each video. It brings David to life again in a special way. Recently, we watched an AOL sessions interview where David talks about the upcoming events he had planned since the American Idols Live Tour ended the previous summer of 2008. He was excited at the prospect of having his own tour to support his new eponymous CD, David Archuleta.

While watching the interview, I suddenly got the idea to tell David ( talking to my computer screen is normal, right? ) about what lies ahead for him in the future. As if to reassure him that his career was solid and the upcoming solo tour was just the beginning of a grand adventure for him and his fans! Beaumont, Not a Bad Place to Be
I’m back from Beaumont. I have spent the better part of two days sleeping off the effects. First, let me just say that at the two AI concerts I attended, I had to use binoculars. For the Tulsa show, I was actually in the nose bleed section. But Beaumont, Beaumont, Beaumont! It was so intimate, and David was thrilled to have it that way. He feeds off the energy of his fans, and the closer they are, the stronger the connection. Anyway, by some act of God, I found myself front row against the railing and center stage!!!!!!! When Lesley Roy’s set was done, they cleared the stage and placed David’s mic stand right in front of me and so close I could have easily reached out and grasped it in my hand. Then they put his keyboard next to that, and it was so close I could have laid my hand on it. I was thankful to have the railing to hold onto while all this was taking place. Someone taped down his list of songs on the floor next to the mic so close I could read it. YEDL was scribbled in after the medley! My favorite song on the album!
So cue the intro and here he comes with the biggest grin singing TMH. I was suddenly seized with a terror of reaching out my hand for fear he wouldn’t touch it. Isn’t that pathetic? But I tentatively raised my hand and he grasped it so firmly and squeezed so hard! I reflexively and joyously squeezed his right back.
What else can I say? His voice up close and live was such an intensely beautiful, uplifting, exhilarating experience. I could witness on his face every nuance of emotion he put into each song and it was utterly glorious to behold. How can anyone be that breathtakingly gorgeous? Up close, the Phenom is almost TMTH. He was sweating so much that at one point when he was at the keyboard, back lit by the stage lights, the sweat was pouring off him in an unremitting shower of glittering rain. When it was over, I tried to walk away and stumbled into a man in the crowd. I apologized and tried to walk again, but staggered and had to stop a minute and then take baby steps to get my equilibrium back. Never has a performance…a performer, affected me in such a powerful way. He is like a drug. He is a magical, euphoria inducing, intensely mood-enhancing, high. Like I said at the start, I have spent two days sleeping it off. What remains is a case of ODD that has escalated to epic proportions.
That’s not a bad place to be.

I guess I was singing the blues in my sleep the other night, because when I woke up those lyrics sprang fully formed in my head. I got up and wrote the words down like I was taking dictation. Maybe it’s because I’m missing him or because I was walking in Memphis this past weekend. The last time I saw Beale Street was at night, but this time, in broad daylight, it felt different. No loud music from every establishment we passed, just the occasional musician singing and strumming quietly on his guitar. Gone were the bright lights and the swarming crowds jostling you on the sidewalks. We could actually see the sidewalk now, the famous Beale Streets Brass Note Walk of Fame and read the names of the great ones of the Blues: BB King, Elvis Presley, Sam Phillips, Jerry Lee Lewis, Memphis Slim and on and on. I took a picture of the street that day 
and was surprised by a huge statue of Elvis I had overlooked before in the dark.
Looking up at it, I remembered David at the Delta Fest in Memphis, saying “Thank you very much,” after each song until he laughed at himself for doing it. There is a spirit to Memphis and a spirit to the Blues that feels like nothing else. The music claws deep into your soul, unearthing feelings that are raw and real.
I want David to sing the blues sometimes. He has the gift and a passion to bring what is dark into the light. Think of “Falling” and “Broken,” both written by him. And there is pain even amidst the joy in the songs he wrote for The Other Side of Down and those he chose for Begin. As an artist he is an old soul of tremendous empathy and unfathomable depths.

The Ultimate Setlist ~ David Archuleta

It is not an easy feat for a young artist to come up with a sophomore album. Yet David has produced a total of seven albums in five years. To quote Simon Cowell, “When you’ve got it, you’ve got it.” Back from his mission with a plethora of songs in his repertoire, he will have a leviathan task on his hands making up his setlist for when he starts touring again.
So let’s help him out. I’ve compiled a list of songs from his albums, plus songs and covers he has done at concerts and appearances. Some songs he hasn’t even sung yet but we can dream, can’t we?
Here is your assignment, should you wish to accept it:

We will tally the ballots and come up with the 25 songs that make it to the Ultimate Setlist for the Homecoming Tour! As you all know I’m a voting, commenting, viewing, anything to get David’s name out there junkie lol. I put up the occasional link for you all to see and join in if possible. Some do some don’t, either is fine, doesn’t make any fan better than another. I try to touch everything put out relating to David but even in his absence it’s hard to do. So I pick and choose what are the best promo opportunities IMO and go at it 🙂
This leads me to the Ryan Seacrest poll. Will Seacrest debut or play David’s single or any other of his songs? Not likely but not impossible. Seacrest is viewed and followed by not only fans of almost every artist but also the media, music and news alike. So I put this poll as the #1 priority. And after seeing these tweets I feel this is more than a mindless poll. I believe this will show the interest in David is still strong and that his fans are here waiting for him.
