He is my Song
~~~
None of you will be surprised
When you hear me say
I was talking to a friend
About David the other day.
But when I started talking about
All the things he’s done
It came to mind that I would rhyme
Every single one.
Listening to his music
Has now infected my brain
I now think of him lyrically
And my words come in refrain.
I don’t know why it’s happening
But I have no control
Every time I think of him
To speak my heart and soul.
My thoughts become the lyrics
To a song within my head
Echoing to his melody
As each new word is said.
OMG What’s happened to me?
This is all so wrong.
The only explanation is …
It’s because He Is My Song.

I give up. It is what it is. The Voice is what it’s all about.

I used to write poetry years ago but stopped for some reason I can’t remember. But, David seems to be inspiring me again. 🙂 You wouldn’t believe how often I am driving in the car listening to his music and the rhymes/lyrics in my head begin to just flow. I write some of my best stuff while driving. haha Unfortunately, I forget it as soon as I step out of the car.

Isn’t it amazing how he does that? So many of his fans are creating things because of him. People are writing poems, articles & stories, making videos, creating beautifully edited photos, doing paintings & sketches. It’s wonderful!

I love how David seems to creep into every conversation; it’s the weirdest thing. I’ve been inspired by different things in my life including songs and artwork, books, plays and movies. The people who have been my inspiration are mostly those with whom I
have come into contact like family, teachers and friends.
But David inspires me in ways I never knew possible. Kind of uncanny when you think about it.
This paragraph says it all. It’s from Masterclass Lady’s most recent column on David Archuleta’s Retrospective Series Part 11 on “Climb Every Mountain”.
“David Archuleta has the ability to give meaning to simple things, the strength to never give up and the courage to stand strong for what he believes. Jan, do you recall the Salt Lake music critic, Mr. Burger? He did a write-up on Bieber’s concert yesterday that had me laughing. “Clad in an all-white suit and black shades, Bieber came down from the rafters above the stage with a pair of silver wings.” Can you even imagine David doing that? Ever?

I saw that article and the video you posted of young David. That’s what started my “research” on how he has evolved since then. (Remember discussing that in chat? Or was that during nap time? :)) The one of our grown up David singing that song is so very Gahhhh worthy! His voice is out of this world!

Bebe, I was watching that video last night!!, of young David singing “Climb Every Mountain.”
I always get a kick out of seeing how many of the same movements,and mannerisms he has kept since he first started performing. The way he uses his hands,(the clenched fist, the open fingers),the ‘mini’ hunkerdown!, and the buildup to the glory note♥ He sure held that last note a long time!

MT, perfect-ness!! 🙂 Your thoughts and words seem to be the same as a lot of the rest of us. Some of us just aren’t talented in the poetry department. I always loved English classes in school, until it came to poetry. It was h.a.r.d I thought.
The videos are great!! Thanks Abrra for the link to pikepss’s channel. You can see in the CEM video that he had some real emotion going into that song. It left him breathless and seemingly overcome from it. It’s beautiful. So is he!

I was having a difficult time thinking of music David didn't hear, that I thought he'd like from 2012.
Then I remembered Born and Raised by John Mayer. It came out right after he left. The guy may be a jerk, but his music is genius, and his song A Place to Call Home is so gorgeous. I liked almost every song on that cd and think D will as well.

Very sad about Hanne from Denmark. I met her in Orlando at a David concert finally after so long knowing her online. She is so sweet and talented and such a devoted fan to our David. Please keep her in your prayers.
Unchained Melody. That is OUR song, my hubby’s and mine. David would kill that and many fans. Here is a great video of Bobby Hatfield singing it. What a voice! Not THE VOICE but gorgeous, just the same.

Hi all, I don’t think Kari was asking for suggestions of what David should sing, just songs he might like to hear. He’s somewhat out of the loop these two years compared to how tuned-in he usually is to what’s going on in music. I think he might really like P!nk’s song ‘Try’, since it’s one of those themes that are in a lot of his songs, about overcoming adversity. Plus he has said he really likes her as an artist. Gayle, I agree that Mumford & Sons song is another one he might really like.

Until two days before Christmas, the only thing I knew about David Archuleta was that he was cute/adorable and had been on American Idol. Then, I watched him sing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in their Christmas concert. The music was so compelling I kept listening to it over and over. Gradually I realized who David Archuleta is. The first time: Yes, he is cute! The second time: And he can sing! The third time: Boy, can he sing! The fourth time: He has an exceptional talent! The fifth time: His talent is from God! The sixth time: He believes what he is singing!
Then I looked around the internet and found Elder Archuleta singing in the Christmas concert from Chile. When I saw him singing O Holy Night, I knew he was singing TO God. My heart melted.
During most of the past year, the missionaries have been teaching and loving me back into full activity after years of depression and sadness. Many elements have contributed to the emotional, spiritual, and physical healing I have recently experienced, but David/Elder Archuleta is the golden broom that swept the remaining detritus from my heart and opened up my capacity to love and to accept love.
In the past few months, I have recognized God’s handiwork twice. The first time was on October 17, when I traveled through the mountains of southwest Virginia to the West Virginia border. These mountains are spectacular in a gentle way on any given day, but that day, in brilliant sunshine, they were glorious with color and beyond sublime. The second time was during Christmas week, when I heard David/Elder Archuleta sing. His voice transcends the things of this world and connects us with heaven. That young man is a gift to us from God! I agree with the many fans who have commented, “he makes me want to be a better person.” He makes me want to be a better person!
I discovered “Forevermore” the other evening. I listened to it for two or three hours. Then I cried myself to sleep.

Welcome to The Voice!
Your comment was so appreciated. We love hearing from new fans and their stories about how they came to be fans of this remarkable young man. Most of us are here since David was on American Idol, five years ago. From watching David sing to us week after week in our livingrooms to holding our collective breath at the results show, hoping he would not be eliminated, to voting after the finale on every phone in the house until our fingers were sore. But it was all worth it because five years later, David continues to inspire me to be a better person. And his zest for life is contagious. I’ve been a fan of many celebrities but none has affected me the way David does.
He was nothing short of magnificent when he sang with The Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Glad they are re-running the show so that those who missed it the first time could have the experience. The connection David makes with the audience when he sings is one of his trademarks.
We’re proud to be here at The Voice, waiting for Elder Archuleta to return from mission. And we’re glad you stopped by to comment. Please let us hear from you again. 🙂

Hello to all my new friends! Thanks for the warm welcome–it looks like I’ve landed on the right spot!
Since December 23, I’ve been mesmerized by David Archuleta. I’d almost call it an obsession, but it’s not an obsession, it’s something else. Someone suggested a soul connection–is it that? I have a new-found ability to give and receive love–is it love? His singing—is it the music I’ve been waiting to hear, that I didn’t even know about? I’m puzzled. One of the first things I said when I had a full picture of him was, “I want to marry him!” And he’s decades younger than I am! Can anyone tell me what the heck is going on?
I’ve been annoying my friends with all sorts of blather about David/Elder Archuleta. This was a recent text to my friend Scotty, who tries his best to humor me: “I’ve been listening to ‘Forevermore’ for the past two hours. I CANNOT get enough of David Archuleta! Good grief! WHAT is happening to me?! I wish I were a teenager again! Or he were a retiree! Help me, Scotty!”
And why is Elder Archuleta’s birthday picture the wallpaper on my desktop?

I’ve found my tribe!
Thanks for the explanation of ODD. I wondered why I succumbed so quickly, then I realized I hadn’t really. In one of the little ironies of life–you know, one of God’s haha moments–I lived in Utah during most of David’s career. I was vaguely aware of him, but I wasn’t interested in him. One of my student employees at BYU was a rabid fan, though. And I think rabid is the right word. She was like Pavlov’s dog. Her stimulus was “David Archuleta,” and her response was a high-pitched squeal. This stimulus-response worked every time–it was too easy!
So why was I immune for so long, and then vulnerable? Is there a moment when the planets are aligned correctly, a sweet spot, and it’s your time? As I’ve been pondering this, this is what comes to mind. I’ve mentioned that I’ve recently been learning to give and receive love. When that ability is blocked, life can be pretty miserable. But due to many factors, not the least of which is God’s mercy, that ability has been unblocked for me. I call this ability my “love receptors” for want of a better term. So my love receptors become sufficiently unblocked, I hear David singing music celebrating the Savior’s birth with the MOTAB (and you know he believes it–that joyful look on his face!) and Elder Archuleta singing O Holy Night in Chile, and my love receptors are fully opened up. My heart is healed. David/Elder Archuleta has something that healed me. What is it? Does he emanate love? What is it that I’m receiving from him? I sense of purity of spirit in him, as well. Whatever it is, I couldn’t have asked for a sweeter experience!

Idol Chatter 2012 in Review: The best Idol songs by Mark Franklin
Dozens upon dozens of songs were released by former Idol contestants in 2012. Some became mega-hits. Others, unfortunately, went largely unnoticed. So as I put together my 2012 Idol in Review blogs, I decided to compile two top 10 lists of favorite songs. First, the boring list. It’s the one that contains all the songs you’d expect to see on such a list.
I call that the boring list because you’re probably already familiar with most of those songs. The second list?
I decided to compile a Top 10 of my favorite Idol tunes that didn’t make the mainstream. The only criteria: the song needed to be released in 2012, as a single, on an EP or on an album. And I restricted the list to one song per artist.
You probably aren’t familiar with all the tunes that follow in these days when lots of music lovers download the hot songs and ignore the albums.
But it’s the list I’d rather highlight — 10 more obscure Idol songs that deserved to be hits … or at least heard. Repeatedly.
So here goes …
5. David Archuleta: “Broken”
Before leaving on a two-year mission with his church, David recorded an album called “Begin.” This is the album’s sole original, and a wonderful reminder of why David won legions of still faithful fans on Season 7 of American Idol.

Welcome! You’ve come to the GOOD PLACE (no pun intended, LOL)! People here are great and friendly. You are right, it feels like home! I’m more of a “lurker” than a “comment-er”! Is that right? LOLOL!
I was just like you before I found this fans site….confused and feeling alone, thinking “Am I the only one experiencing these emotions I have never felt before for any artist or human being?” I have admired so many artists in my lifetime, but only David made me feel this way. Finding this place gave me the only answer to those questions….ODD! It felt good to know that I am not the only person affected by this disorder. I learned that anybody who gets in contact, directly or indirectly with this wonderful human being, becomes infected. Sad to say that my life is full of stress, sadness and painful memories, but with ODD, it just made it a lot easier to deal with them. Kinda ODD, huh?! You can’t help but think positive seeing the way David leads his life. He gave me hope to fight all those adversities that keep coming my way. His music uplifts my soul!
Two & a half years ago, when I was a full-time member of a church choir, I got sick with a cough and cold that I couldn’t get rid off for months. I started to notice I had a hard time singing without losing my voice after two or three songs. I went to see a specialist and was diagnosed with a weakened left vocal chord. For someone who loves to sing, it was a torture. I went to voice therapy but due to conflicting schedule with my work, I was forced to stop going. I’ve lost interest in singing, quit the choir and basically resigned myself that I will not sing in a choir again. I could still sing but just to myself in the bathroom…hahaha! Then February 2012, I re-discovered David. (I knew him from American Idol and voted for him, but since I didn’t see his audition part, I didn’t know about his vocal paralysis until February 2012.) Since re-discovering David, I learned to appreciate more of the talent God gave me and to trust that with persistence and constant practice, I will be able to overcome my vocal chord problem. David gave me HOPE! If David did it, why can’t I? Glad to say that I am back with the choir and am still able to sing to my heart’s content. This is just one of the many stories how David affected my life. I’m sure other fans have pretty interesting stories, too.

I’m re-reading Chords of Strength again after seeing Les Miz. I love David’s story and hearing him talk about he was inspired and wanted from a very early age to sing with feeling. It’s a Spiritual experience to see how he was influenced and how he is influencing so many of us and I’m sure those he is serving in Chile.

I think I became a fan BECAUSE he was gone. The Christmas concert with the MOTAB introduced me to him (in a really great way!! Still listening to it!), but the Christmas concert in Chile sealed it. His suit and tie and missionary nametag to me showed his great humility and his commitment to God–he was not trying to please the world. His singing was so transcendent–especially O Holy Night–that it literally pierced my heart and reached into my soul and filled it with beauty and light. His countenance, as well, showed his devotion to God. What I saw in him, I want for myself.
