Gladys Goes to 2nd Christmas Devotional ~ David Archuleta

Translation and editing by Djafan and Bebereader

Mr. and Mrs. McKinley welcomed me. She asked me many questions and both of them kissed me and introduced me not as a member but as a friend from Argentina. Mrs. McKinley knew that I had two nieces; she read The Voice and my own blog.

The first two rows were Reserved seating and Mr. McKinley removed a Reserved sign and seated me in the second row about a meter from the pulpit. Elder Archuleta would eventually sit on the same side of the pulpit so I had a perfect view. They chatted with me and introduced me to all the Elders; it seemed like they had been waiting for me. When Elder Archuleta arrived, Mrs. McKinley spoke with him for some time before he began to sing. He turned and saw me and he smiled. I smiled back.

He sang the same songs as the last Christmas devotional but this time I saw him up close. It was like a recital when you repeat the performance but he was more confident this time, especially in the Spanish and Italian songs.

When he sang the first song, “Los Pastores A Belen”, I was the only one singing along. We sang together for a few seconds! I was able to hear the Italian song perfectly. It was powerful because everyone was in complete silence. When he finished Los Pastores the audience applauded and he put his finger to his lips and made the “shhhh” sign with a smile. During the rest of the songs the audience would start to applaud and he would repeat the gesture, finger to his lips.

I also chatted with Sister Viviana, who will be in charge soon. She received her chocolates and told me that last Saturday she rode back in the same car as Elder Archuleta and that he told her about me and the chocolates and gave her some. She said that he is personable and nice and very humble. I showed her what I bought for him and she laughed and said “He is a kid at heart; he’s going to like it.”

I bought him a giant egg, with lots of eggs inside with building pieces. The giant egg had feet and a duck’s head, cute. I glued the messages to the feet and I wrote something on the back:

Elder Archuleta, I know you have contact with a singer from Utah whose name starts with a D. Please tell him that he won’t need to start at zero. Just begin where he left off. I give thanks for the jewels he left us and for those that are to come. I speak for everyone from around the world. May God Bless you and continue protecting you.

When I gave it to him I asked if he liked his previous gift and he said “Of course” and he recognized me.

“Have you eaten it all?”

He laughed a lot and said, “Yes.”

“Well here is something else but as before don’t eat it all at once.” (I showed him the top part so he couldn’t see the messages.)

He said, “Again? Thank you.” And when he saw the egg, he laughed heartily. It’s the most glorious laugh I’ve ever heard.

Since I was sitting among some Elders and had candies to snack on, I handed some out while Elder Archuleta sang. I gave the sweets to the Argentinean Elder Des and he asked if he could give some to the others too. So we all snacked on sweets together. Before I left I shook Elder Des’ hand and told him, “See you in Rancagua on Sunday.” He said, “We’ll be waiting!!!”

I ran into President MacArthur and he gave me a hug and kiss. I’d never spoken to him before and he said, “Ahhh, you are the one from Argentina.”

Me:    “Yes, President.”

Him:  “You know something, I always tell Archuleta that he has the possibilities of success. haha.”

The one who was in charge of that district, the Buin Chile district, was inviting people to see pictures and the shepherds/nativity in the next room. Before the show started, an Elder from Ecuador took me to see the exhibit and they gave me a copy of The Book of Mormon.

When I was leaving I saw Elder Archuleta again, from afar. He had a line of people waiting to greet him. They weren’t fans; they were families that just wanted to congratulate him and shake his hand. I watched as he smiled and spoke with everyone but I left. I didn’t want to abuse my luck. They gave him gifts. A man gave him cookies and snacks in a bag. Mostly they gave him food and he just laughed. I think they may have started this when they saw that I brought him a gift the last time.

Mr. and Mrs. McKinley kissed me and told me they’ll be waiting for me as did Sister Viviana. She said that on the 9th in Rancagua, it’s going to be beautiful and to make sure I get there early.

I felt on leaving that I had accomplished a mission of my own, with the message I gave to Elder Archuleta.

I do feel like I do when my daughter comes home from being away for months. He seems so changed and yet so familiar. Some of his gestures and mannerisms remind me of videos of when he was a little boy. Yet there is no denying the adorable boy is gone. In his place is a stunning young man.

The Christmas greeting from David was another unexpected surprise. Can anyone still have any doubts that David is going to continue singing upon his return? He sure worked hard and these allowed “glimpses” into his mission as Richard Parkinson called them are very much appreciated.

Poof…I completely agree. “stunning young man”

Gladys, Como te envidio! Pero tambien como me alegro por ti. Tu mensaje de aliento y apoyo para David es precioso.

Today at work I was watching the vid. on #34. My co-worker said, “That’s beautiful. Who is it?”
Me: It’s David Archuleta. He’s in Chile.
Her: You can tell he really means and feels what he’s singing.
Me: Yes people do say that about him.
Her: It’s something that comes from within. Josh Groban sings the
exact same thing and it’s not the same. He’s a nice singer but
. it doesn’t come close to this.
Me: Yes, it always makes me wonder why David Archuleta isn’t more
popular with a voice like that.
Her: That’s because only those who are able to hear it will hear it.

That immediately made me think of the “chosen” concept about David’s fans. 😊

David is taking part in a number of Christmas performances and so many people are fortunate to hear his wonderful voice perhaps for the first time.

Gladys has also been lucky to have met him and been present at the devotionals. I believe that he will be performing again during his time in Chile especially at Chrustmas time. So very many have never been to a concert so it is a special opportunity for all of us who have the opportunity.

David is there for another 15 months and as ever will surprises people with the news that he is singing in different places.

The videos have been posted on several
sites and Christmas videos traditionally are so appreciated and enjoyed.

This morning I have been painting, so I put on the mp3 of the spanish “Oh Holy Night”. I have now listened to it on repeat,, perhaps,,30 times? What is so funny, I then came back and checked in here, saw Djafan’s mention of the tape and of course, sat and listened to it again. 🙂 It is really good,, I like it,, Oh my.

Elder David Archuleta Sings Christmas Concert at Temple in Santiago, Chile

The Christmas performance was held in the gardens of the temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Santiago, Chile, on December 8, 2012. was a great night of music, dance, and reflection on the birth of Jesus Christ. Archuleta David, then Elder Archuleta, who is serving as a full-time missionary in this part of South America since March this year, attended the concert singing carols.

Other singers also had their cameos as Rebeca Lopez and Lorena Reyes. Elder Jorge F. Zeballos, First Counselor in the Area Presidency South America, South left a Christmas message.

Just got this email from the very talented and gracious PaulaFOD, who wanted to share this award with all of you who made it possible by helping out with a very special cause. Here is the painting she auctioned for the camp with your donations and the link to her article printed here.

    Photobucket

Congratulations Paula and all David’s one-of-a-kind fans!

    Hi everyone!

I wanted to thank all of you at Fans of David, The Voice, and Archuleta Fanscene for the support you gave The Singer and the Song Project this summer and let you know some exciting news.

I have received notification from Camp ASCCA that I am this year’s recepient of the Ina Watson Special Appreciation Award. This award is given by Camp ASCCA each year to one person has made significant contributions to camp, both financial and in other ways of support. Although my husband and I have supported camp for years, the letter specifically mentioned The Singer and the Song Project. Therefore…I do not consider this my award, but OUR award as a fanbase.

I have written a note to Camp ASCCA thanking them for the work they do every day to make Camp a place of opportunity, acceptance, and independence. I also stated that the true recipients of this honor are those of you who were willing to make donations through this project. I had an idea, but those of you who supported the project with moral support and financial contributions made it happen. Please know that every bit of support was greatly appreciated by the Camp ASCCA staff, Board of Directors, and the amazing campers who benefit from your generosity.

The award will get a mention in the next camp newsletter. The project was such a joy! We were able to share David with many people associated with Camp ASCCA…and I was able to share Camp ASCCA with you guys. My heart overflows.

You guys at FOD, The Voice, and Archuleta Fan Scene were instrumental in helping to spread the word about the project. Thank you all for what you do for David and his fans every day.

    Much love to you all,

    Paula

In my daily inspirational verse book these came up the last few days and to me it explains a lot about David:

“When you enter the energy field of someone who’s connected to Spirit, you find yourself not only forsaking your uninspired ways, but also converting to their higher energy”.

“Inspirational people aren’t interested in winning a popularity contest, especially when those who seek praise and recognition often do so to soothe feelings of insecurity”.

“When you stay in vibrational alignment with Spirit, you find yourself less concerned with goals, outcomes winning and accumulations, and far more involved in the process of enjoying the activities of life”.

“Trust your own intuition–no one else has to agree with you or even understand you. Remember, your goal is to feel good (God)”.

Wow! Jan has found us a clue to the David enigma. Good job. I will certainly be pondering on those.

Sky, an energy field that big could be scary if it weren’t related to David. I was deeply impressed with what you wrote about David at #98. That is such a beautiful portrait of David looking at his audience. I don’t know why I worry about a man so confident, serene and obviously acting upon what is in his heart.

Came home from work tonight, checked around, found the new video of The Prayer, played it on my phone while eating. My husband, who has heard David a million times, asked “Who’s that singing?”
    Me: You mean the girl?
    Him: No, the guy.
    Umm, duh.
It’s that deep register. He didn’t recognize him. He doesn’t sound THAT different, does he?

Oh, Jan, I love those quotes. Vibrational alignment. Sounds like something Angelica once wrote. 🙂
