This will be David’s first birthday and Christmas away from home while on his mission. In the past, he has always managed to wrap up tour in time to be home for the holidays. This can be a difficult time for missionaries, when the sacrifices they are making seem most acute. According to this tweet from Kari, this is the last week to get your cards to her so she can get them to him in time.

Angelica – I sent my two cards last Monday. Hoping his Christmas is a wonderful one! It will be different and he will miss family but they will keep him busy over there. All the new friends and family will probably have celebrations (and lots of food)!!! God bless him! Martha 🙂

When one of my sons came home from his mission he told me about how he had spent one Christmas listening to DA’s CFTH cd. It helped to get him through. He was especially touched by “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”. He said it almost did him in – but in a good way.
So… what will DA be listening to?
Many of the missionaries will be eating multiple meals at homes of members or will be out doing service or both. They definitely keep busy.
I remember a Christmas in Texas: we decorated a tumbleweed. ^_^
Thank goodness it will not be that dry or brown for DA, he will have color and lots of sound and life!

It’s been while since I sent a card off to David. I see his fan mail address on our sidebar every day but I needed that little extra push. haha Thank you, Angelica! I hope lots of fans do the same. Would love to be a fly on the wall to see the look on David’s face when he realizes that we’re still here and not going anywhere.
Love the idea of decorating tumbleweeds to look like Christmas Trees! I’m sure our fanfriends who live in warmer climates can share with us what Christmas is like. I’ve lived in the northeast my entire life and associate Christmas with cold weather and snow. Brrrrr.
It will be an interesting Christmas for David and one that he will never forget, no doubt.

(I know El Paso sometimes feels kind of “out there” (it is!) but that is where I lived for 9 months. We found tumble weeds to be very useful decorated up for Christmas!)

SandyBeaches – Kari said she will send the box for birthday/Christmas the end of this month. I’m grateful she is doing this, but other times during the year I wish should would send boxes once a month so mail isn’t outdated when he gets it; or if we send something monthly, he doesn’t get 2 or 3 items from the same person all at once. I think she has said she waits until a box is full to send it. Wonder how big the the box is lol. Don’t want to sound unappreciative, just thinking out loud. Martha 🙂

Sending to her tomorrow, postman’s come and gone today. It seems like there was an every other month mailing to David and this seems like an extra one due to Christmas and his birthday.

Well, I am curious by nature and just had to find out what a tumbleweed Christmas tree looked like. Not at all what I thought. I WANT one!
This one looks huge.
I have this thing for weeds, the dried kind. I don’t know why, but for years I would make people stop the car!!! so I could pick dried weeds from the side of the road. When I was single, I had so many bouquets of dried flowers/weeds hanging from the ceiling of my kitchen, you couldn’t fit one more. It smelled like a barn…haha…fresh hay, I mean. I don’t do that anymore but I do have some very large sticks and twigs still leaning against the walls that my husband just yesterday asked me to remove. (We’re redecorating.) Yeah I’ll remove them as far as my study. They just make me happy.
Got my birthday and Christmas card ready to mail out tomorrow with some peanut butter M&Ms. If they melt, he can just eat peanut butter M&M bark! Awesome!

I’ve had a card for D sitting here in my home “computer room” as we call it – for 3 months. Just a few weeks ago I wrote in it. I still haven’t sent it. Idk why.
Thanks for the push I obviously needed. I’ll post it tomorrow.
(I wrote him a ridiculous poem, couldn’t help it, it just happened. I NEVER do that)

Me and my granddaughter sent our cards a few weeks ago. Angie thanked him for her card that he sent her last year. He is just the best! ♥ I usually send a couple of cards a month so I’ve been wanting to send another one but didn’t want it going into the box of his Christmas and birthday cards. He would be getting them all at once and I would rather they were spread out some. But he will probably get enough to keep him busy for awhile.

I have had that Motab video for a few weeks. It is too large a file to upload to Unplugged. My plan is to break it into 2 smaller files. It’s really not any different than the videos I have right now, just that it is a seamless concert of David’s performances.

Abrra, you’re right, the MOTAB video scenes are the same as on the GCT DVD. When I found this in the wee hours this morning, everything looked different….guess this teaches me to not be watching David when I should be sleeping. The HD quality in the video, though, is much better than on my DVD. I’m just so blessed to have been there for 2 of those MOTAB performances. It was a once-in-a-lifetime, never to be forgotten time for David…..and for us. What a gift, what a treasure he is!!

I was watching TV at my sister’s house when a video of Michael Bublé in concert was shown. My brother-in-law remarked that Mr Bublé was singing mechanically without any soul. Of course I agreed and then said well if you want to see a singer perform with soul and passion then you should watch my favourite singer David Archuleta. I told him and my sister I will show them David singing with MOTAB when I get the DVD. I am sure David will soon have two new fans.

As I’m commenting I’m listening to the MoTab performances in comment #22 , thanks, TX Nancy! But they left out my favorite song of David’s set “Los Pastores a Belen”.
David’s smile at the end of this song is priceless!
To those who went to MoTab (and there were many), I can only imagine what it was like to be part of the audience and listen to that beautiful sound in an arena that large. I watched it all on video; I even enjoyed the processional, it reminds me of New York City’s Radio City Music Hall’s Annual Christmas Spectacular Show! Except it’s missing David. LOL David looked magnificent at MoTab! Something ’bout him singing Christmas songs that bring one to tears. It’s not the lyrics necessarily, it’s more the heart he puts into the songs. I can no longer listen to anyone else singing Christmas music. Dayzee’s right when she said: “He tears my heart out, stomps on it, yet makes me feel great.”

Today started out a day about David. I awoke to an email ping from Amazon reminding me of the cds I have bought asking me if I would like to order more? Well thank you Amazon because I need to do that right away.
Although I have been delayed with cards for David, sidetracked by matters at home, I headed out to the Halmark store for something special. I stood in front of many Christmas cards searching for ‘the one’ when the music started…’Felix Navidad’…by Jose Feliciano…Oh my the start of hearing the Christmas carols…you all know what it is like in a store even when it is someone David knows singing the song. David had revived the Christmas spirit.
So Kari if you should happen to drop by the site…David’s Christmas card is arriving from Canada EXPRESS post hopefully Friday!!
I have asked Abrra to post the card… I wrote very little on it leaving it to Halmark, but I did send Christmas wishes to everyone around him…

Steno…I have Christmas cards here at home, there are numerous stores in between where I could have gone to look for a card. I just had it in my mind that I had to go there. I found other nice ones but I kept on looking. Every word speaks of David. When I went to write a note with it, there was nothing more that I wanted to say except…take care and a little bit more!

I was having my haircut the other day and there was some cheesy Christmas music coming out of the speakers. We can’t have that. The Christmas card that I sent had part of the lyrics to “Silent Night” and it included my favorite part….Son of God, Loves pure Light! Love when David takes that part up extra high….like he did when he sang it at the MOTAB concert. Pure bliss!!

‘Silent Night’ is also not on the MoTab video that is posted. It wasn’t on the PBS special either.
My daughter was here for Thanksgiving and announced, very importantly, that they are now playing David music in the beauty salon where she works. It might have something to do with the fact that she is the manager….maybe. 🙂
I’m just so excited to be playing Christmas music! It brings the better part of me to the surface. That part gets buried pretty deep at times.

Wow, SB! Perfect card for David for sure. I sent mine this afternoon and they will get there tomorrow afternoon. I wrote goodness knows what inside. I recall drawing a happy face, music notes and a heart. haha. I’m a fool. I sent 3 cards, one birthday, one Christmas and one motivational. Close up of birthday card. Oooo so sparkly!
I also managed to cram the large bag of peanut butter M&M’s inside.
I don’t know why I always have to give him chocolate. Maybe because I have 2 addictions and one of them is chocolate.
Also been playing CFTH all afternoon. That MOtab video got me in the mood. My favorite song on that is “Los Pastores a Belen” too, Bebe. Couldn’t remember the name of it this morning while I was watching the video and kept saying to myself, “Where’s the San Antonio song?” I have no idea.

I mentioned to a man about the time at the MOTABS when it was said that “Silent Night” made grown men cry…and it did. The man said, ” It isn’t right for a real man to cry”…I said you have to be kidding, perhaps you have never been moved as much as David can move someone…When he sang Silent Night, it somehow brought you back to your childhood and I think that is what happened to people that night…

This video was recorded in Beaver Creek, CO on December 6, 2009. It was a stop on David Archuleta’s Christmas From the Heart Tour, which promoted the release of his 2009 Christmas album with the same name. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_from_the_Heart_Tour
It is recorded at the Vilar Performing Arts Center, which was a small venue. To make it an even smaller crowd, there was a huge blizzard that night. Same thing happened two years later when he appeared there during his My Kind Of Christmas Tour. Huge blizzard, and David’s tour bus was stuck in the ice on way to the airport after the concert. Recording wasnt allowed at that one, so any video you see from the Beaver Creek show of 2011 is rare. I shot the 2009 show from start to finish. This is a 50 minute portion of that. It includes the first half of the concert, which featured songs from his platinum album, CRUSH, then goes into the first half of the Christmas portion of the show, which finishes up in PART II.
This video was recorded in Beaver Creek, CO on December 6, 2009. It was a stop on David Archuleta’s Christmas From the Heart Tour, which promoted the release of his 2009 Christmas album with the same name. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_from_the_Heart_Tour
It is recorded at the Vilar Performing Arts Center, which was a small venue. To make it an even smaller crowd, there was a huge blizzard that night. Same thing happened two years later when he appeared there during his My Kind Of Christmas Tour. Huge blizzard, and David’s tour bus was stuck in the ice on way to the airport after the concert. Recording wasnt allowed at that one, so any video you see from the Beaver Creek show of 2011 is rare. I shot the 2009 show from start to finish. This is a 20 minute portion of that, and if I can figure out what I am doing on here, I will add the rest, once I break it into smaller sections. I’m only three years behind!

Sky and SB, I would think everyone would pick out that card for David. I would have if I had seen it. And like you said, no need to add to it.
When my Iphone plays by alphabet the first two songs are Above the Northern Lights and then Neil Diamond’s America. ANL is so silky, surreal, dreamy/creamy, low and slow. When I hear that final “dreams take fliiiiiiight” I am all mellow and boneless.
Then up comes “America”! All bouncy and raucus, high glory notes, patriotism with muscle. It’s like “Wake up and do something”. No wonder he keeps us captivated.

I listened to the Mormon Weekly video in comment #61 last night. David’s speaking
voice is like a soothing balm. He could be talking pig latin; the tone is just so pleasant. It makes sense that he would have a beautiful speaking voice because he’s singing voice is beyond beyond.

This is Roselyn Garcia from the Philippines, I use the name “thefictionfreak” on The Voice comments. First of all, I wanna give a shout out for all you guys for all the wonderful posts and nice comments. You rock! Thanks so much. Anyway, I just wanna answer a question one of you guys asked a few weeks ago. The question is how David inspired me to sketch..here’s my answer.
How David inspired me to sketch
Last year, I was just a girl who likes art. I’ve been into creative things since I was little and drawing has always been a hobby to me. I love it and I always get this strange but amazing feeling every time I’m drawing something… it’s just like what David feels every time he’s singing, ya know (must be the reason why I really can relate to him). But I didn’t see myself as an artist then. I was thinking maybe I would never be good enough to become an artist because my drawing skills were a little too pathetic. I’m gonna do something else when I grow up… something more practical, that’s what I was thinking.
I still wanted to pursue art in high school, but I became an athlete and I was so focused that I totally forgot about my passion in art. I was a sophomore when I first heard about our dear David and things picked up from there. Oh you know what happened! My life became beautiful, colorful… He’s got that face that I know I’ll never get tired of drawing. On my free time, I tried to draw simple portraits of David but I always end up with a mess. College came. I absolutely wanted to go to an art school but I knew my family could not afford it so I just settled with a cheaper course. I still tried drawing David every now and then. In 2011, after kajillions of attempts and epic-failures, I was finally able to create two considerable portraits of David. But it’s not good, I’m telling you. LOLJK.
It was because of David’s mission announcement last year that a massive bolt of inspiration hit me hard on the chest. It was that turning point in my life. I was so grief-stricken because he was about to leave at the time that I know I’m so head-over-heels in love with him. He has given me so much joy, so much inspiration that I could not imagine the next two years without him. Oh you know. (But of course, I’m okay now. I’m BEYOND happy for his decision.) At that moment, I felt like this majestic David Archuleta person was doing what he really wanna do, he’s doing what God wants him to do, he’s following his heart… and me being so centered on him particularly at that moment, wanted to dedicate all my time for him. I wanted to do something for him, something that can show him how much I support him and how much love him. But how do I show it? I can use twitter, but I can tweet all of my heart’s content and it will never be enough. And then it dawned to me… words are never enough to describe all my feelings for him… so I just thought maybe I could express it through art. Maybe I could draw a good portrait of him and he might be able to see it. David is very appreciative, I know it would make him smile, but only if I will do it well. So I did, I got all the inspiration in the world to draw him with all my best. While doing the portrait, all I could think about was “This is all for you David, I wanna be my best because of you,” haha. When I finished it, I couldn’t believe what I did. I was satisfied with the result. It was that moment in my life that I realized I really can make it, and I made it because of David.
It was January then, David was in Manila and it was the best chance to show him the product of the inspiration he brought me. But I live somewhere far from Manila; I live in Batangas. I was not able to see him at the beach and that kinda bummed me, so I just traveled to Manila and was able to catch the Grand Fans Day. That was the first time I saw him so very close to where I was standing. I’m telling you, it’s one of the greatest moments in my life. Seriously. Too bad, I didn’t have a M&G ticket so I just tried to creep the portrait up from the crowd and hoped for David to just catch a glimpse of it. And he did! He did! I was already rejoicing. I will never forget how his eyes clicked up at the sight of his portrait on my hands.
After that, a series of Archusketches was made, all inspired by our dear David. I always say that drawing a portrait of the person you love is one of life’s greatest joys, and drawing David is such a pleasure to me. It’s not just because he has the most beautiful face I’ve ever seen, it’s because he is the reason why I realized that I have a special gift from God. He is my inspiration, and I think the best way to show all gratitude that I feel for him is to put it into art. If I could, I’ll draw his face for the rest of my life and I will never get tired of it, that’s how much I love drawing him.
I am hoping that someday, David will get to see my portraits of him personally. I am hoping that seeing my artworks will put a smile of his face and will make him realize how much he’s done to make me the better person that I am now. Not only did he help me become an artist who is now able to help her family financially, he also helped me strengthen my faith in God and so much more. My eyes are now open to the heights to which I could soar… and I thank David Archuleta for that.

He may not have won his season — that honor went to David Cook — but he was the runner-up and released an album mere months later.
