You had to be there on Saturday night to witness the absolute joy and passion from Gladys in reaction to the Musica Pop concert she attended by special invitation from the Senior Elders in Chile. The performers were Elder Archuleta on vocals and Elder Coello on piano. If you were lucky enough to secure a “seat” in The Voice Unplugged then you were privy to the excitement.
Gladys arrived to a room packed full of fans, waiting on the edge of our seats to see her, to hear every little detail of her experience, and then some. Let’s face it, we are missing David so much that it hurts and Gladys, who was so tired from her trip was full of energy as she spoke to us in-depth. She was generous of heart to follow with a question/answer session and we hung onto every word. We are, after all, a very inquisitive bunch! Abrra diligently copied excerpts from the chat text for you to read. Here is Djafan’s translation as it appears in the actual chat text, in upper case letters. Gladys will, of course, follow up with her own recap.

TO SEE DAVID TO DANCE AND SING KNEEL, KARATE KICK IS SOMETHING I WILL NEVER FORGET WHILE I’M ALIVE.
WHEN THEY STARTED PLAYING THE NOTES OF ROCKY SONG, HE STARTED MOVING HIS ARMS LIKE BOXERS TO THE BACK, THEN TO THE FRONT, AND THEN BOXED WITH AN IMAGINARY SHADOW BOXER, IT WAS FUNNY.
AND THEN KICKING THE AIR LIKE A KICK BOXER, UNDERSTAND THAT I NEVER THOUGHT IN MY LIFE DAVID WAS GOING TO DO ANYTHING LIKE THIS.
HE WORE A WHITE HAT AND DID SOME DANCE STEPS AND CLOSE BY SANG COELLO. WHEN HE STARTED THE AL JOLSON SONG, HE STOOD NEXT TO COELLO AND THEY STARTED SINGING. THEY BOTH PUT ON THE WHITE HATS AND DAVID CAME TO THE CENTER OF THE STAGE
HIS VOICE HAS IMPROVED, NOW CAN HOLD ANY NOTE LONGER, NOT CHANGED, IMPROVED, HAVING HIS VOICE VERY RELAXED, THAT MUST BE IT.

YES THE SISTERS AND THE MISSIONARIES KNOW HE’S A FAMOUS RECORDING STAR. ALL THE YOUNG GIRLS THAT FILLED THE PLACE DID, TOO.
CHANTED EVERYONE “ONE MORE! ONE MORE!”

Oh my, thanks for posting this. I’m so thrilled while reading and made me smile all the way. I paused on some sentences and imagine how David did those moves and even played the videos to have a perfect picture in my mind. Hope we get to him like that in 2014. I was hoping there are pictures will show up this time, but no pictures or videos allowed. Nope, not disappointed ‘coz Gladys did great sharing the story. And, I think that’s enough. Dear Gladys, you will never know the gratitude we feel for what you have done for us. A Thousand Miles should be your theme song. It was so exciting listening to you in chat. We were hanging on your every word as dja frantically translated. As you started describing the details I was sca-reeeaming inside. And you are but one of a handful of people blessed with the opportunity to witness it. From your account, it sounded like he was happy and having the time of his life. That is all we need to know.
And his voice has improved!? That thought gives me chills! One thing I remember you said in chat was something like, “the salsa dancing we have seen from him in FaLaLa compared to Saturday night was like comparing a mouse to an elephant”….eeeeeek!

I got chills just reading about Glady’s Chat account of her experience in Chile. It’s so exciting to know that David is doing a show like that as a missionary. I am Mormon and I don’t understand why the audience couldn’t clap unless the concert was held in the chapel. I am so happy that Gladys was able to attend a second performance of David and provide us with all the details. What would we do without her? It must be a big expense for her to do all of this traveling and then to go for a third time to the Christmas event. I feel like I should send her some money to help her out. What do you say, Gladys?

I must add my thanks to everyone’s Gladys, Bebe and Abrra. My husband grew up in St. Louis and is a Huge Cardinal Fan. He Would Not get off the computer Saturday night so i could get on. He was rewatching games and listening to commentary because they just made it into the World Series. I didn’t think my ODD should trump his OCD for the Cardinals. So extra thanks to everyone who is explaining what happened at the concert. Keep those details rolling!

This was so exciting to read!!! I was able to be on chat for awhile Saturday but came late just before Gladys signed off, so getting all the info here is heaven.
Gladys, our little ninja fan, thank you so much for giving us the details. I’m so glad you were able to go and see David in this light. Sounds like he is doing well, as he would say. I’m sure it gives his fan base reassurance that he is happy and doing what gives him a chance to be of service to others.

Are we being compensated for ‘respecting’ and ‘supporting’ DAs decision to serve? Yea, I think so. I think in the end we will all be very glad we did our best to support him in his “heart-decision” for his life. (Whatever form that support takes: curling up into a ball for 2 years, combing fan sites for crumbs, prayer, hugging each other for support… it doesn’t matter: we all deal with it and do our best in our own way…) The important thing is that the fans have shown and are showing so much support in every way they can, while letting the “line” reel out into the distant stream.
After all, it is we, really, who are on the hook. *_*

I was one of the lucky ones who got into chat! Yay! And here are some things that really struck me.
#1: Gladys said in chat that his hair was brushed back off his forehead, (Not his usual missionary “do.”) This makes me smile. Yes, I know I have a hair fetish. Haha I admit it. But to me, this indicates that David was “ON”, becoming for a brief time “the performer, David Archuleta” when preparing to go on stage. That thought makes me happier than I want to admit.
#2. Singing Eye Of The Tiger while demonstrating kickboxing and shadow boxing. This somehow reassures me that David, the performer, is still alive and kicking and growing stronger every day.
#3. Dancing Salsa and asking everyone to dance with him! REALLY DANCING according to Gladys (*insert major spazzing here*) All I can say about this one is; not seeing this is still killing me! I’ve been secretly hoping that the Latin music and dancing down there would influence him so we get more dance moves on stage. It looks like I just might get my wish!
#4. Laughing and smiling throughout, his usual mood on stage, so very David. This tells me that he was “feeling it” and happy as a clam about being up on stage in front of an audience again. I guess I was afraid that he would become so accustomed to not performing that he wouldn’t miss it. I’ve never been so glad to see signs that I was wrong.
It’s funny how one night can change things so much for me, but I now feel so much better because after hearing Gladys’ account of what happened, I just know in my heart that his love of singing and performing hasn’t diminished one bit. It’s as strong as ever.
So David, you just keep doing your thing over there. I’ll gladly wait till you get home.

Wow with all this exciting experience of Glady’s and thank you The Voice for posting. Surely I missed the chat last Saturday in the Archuworld. Anyway, I’m so glad The Voice and other fan sites are here to update us as we all are missing him so much and was trying to pass the time checking each and every post everyday about David. Those songs that David sang, wish he sing it again in his 2014 concert. I was just imagining him while listening to it. Gahhh…. and the Salsa dancing, oh I wanna see him do that again. He’ll see the NA fans will be dancing with him in his concert. I would love to dance Salsa with him. (Huh, my bucket list wish !!!) surely he got that talent from his mom. Wow he is also fluent in Spanish after 7 months. Good for him. I know he love to learn and speak Spanish fluently. Another concert in Christmas that’s really amazing. Our Chilean Archies are so lucky that David can do more concerts while he is there. So, we’ll wait for more recap or update from Glady’s and thanks again for sharing the experience. 🙂 🙂

Muchas Gracias amigos for your comments. I share this with my fellow Admins who all had a hand in putting this article together. That’s what I call teamwork! With lightning speed, djafan translated Gladys’ words while Abrra quickly copied the chat dialogue. I combed the three-hour chat transcripts for important info while Angelica did the artwork on the lead pic and gave her seal of approval. This piece was truly a labor of love!!
How I wish Dakgal was here with us. What would she have to say about David Balboa? I miss her wacky sense of humor.
Note the English translated lyrics in the video to Celia Cruz song “Life is a Carnival”. It was no accident that David sang that song. He carefully chose his songs. Read those lyrics if you haven’t already done so (and imagine David doing a little Salsa while you’re watching).
Seeing the show through Gladys’ eyes and hearing her words that David is okay means so much to us. Through a miracle of fate, {{{{{{{Gladys}}}}}}} was invited to this event and we all felt like we witnessed greatness once again.
If we’re lucky, perhaps David will treat us to some of these songs when he returns from his mission.

SuzyQ, I was thinking the same thing. I would be more than happy to help somehow with Glady’s travel expenses. I am so grateful – if it wasn’t for her, the silence would be deafening. Having one of us seeing him live and in person is so reassuring and makes this much easier.

Well, it was 6:28 PM and I was nervous like it was the first time I was going to see him. I waited a long time for the concert to start.
Elder Archuleta kicked off the concert with two hymns, “Where Can I Turn for Peace”, and “How Firm a Foundation.”
I don’t remember the order of the songs after that. He sang “I’m Strong”, “Dreams”, “One More Minute”, “He Sent His Son”, “I’m Trying to Be Like Jesus”, “Heaven”, “A Thousand Miles” and “Eye of the Tiger”. (From Gladys’s account he also sang “Wonderful World”, “Imagine”, and “Everybody Hurts”, the last one for the married missionaries.)

I remember an early visit by David to the Philippines when he was asked about the American kick boxer, also named David Archuleta, who had just had a fight there. “Our” David indicated that he did know about it, and stated that he was, in fact, a boxing fan. Now “Eye of the Tiger?” Would have loved to see that!

Gladys, thanks to your tenacity in applying for a seat at the concert of our dreams, we had an awesome Saturday night at The Voice Unplugged. What a gloomy time it would have been for us had you not been so persistent. You deserve all of our thanks. Instead of being in the dark, we were bathing in the glow of your experience. It was like Christmas, opening one present after another. Some surprises, some disappointments (no pics). It was like the 4th of July with blossoming fireworks (salsa? boxing?) It was the bestest holiday ever.
Loved seeing Ray’s comment above. It was perfect.

It means the world to us to know that he was so happy. I can only imagine the joy you had witnessing his dancing, kick-boxing, shadow boxing, and singing an Al Jolson song. That Archie Balboa sure did have some tricks up his sleeve for the audience 😉 . Hope we get to see some of that in 2014!

It was so much fun to wait with all the rest and see you appear with a “hola!” What a hoot is was that night waiting on the edge of our seats in acute anticipation for you to type in Spanish and then came the translation by dja…BAM!!! He what? Danced salsa like never before? Sang Dixie with a white hat and shadow/kicked box like a wild man? haha. omgosh that was the funnest, funniest time in chat ever!! I was too excited to sleep after and couldn’t get the smile off my face or out of my heart. I was at a hotel in New Orleans that night for a wedding but I made sure I brought my laptop and hopped on as soon as I could. By then there were 54 and it was a party!! Missed you Sky! It makes me so happy to know he is happy and still has the music in him (and the rhythm.) 😉 Gracias to Gladys, and Dja for reporting and for everyone else who added to the excitement by being there together that night. Now we have the Christmas concert coming too and am hoping some video comes from that if it’s an outdoor event.

You know, we’ve all been so excited by the clip of him dancing in it and assume there will be dancing in the full version. But … has anyone ever actually asked Kari or Jon Daza if he does actually dance in the video? Because we really can’t be sure.
I, of course, am hoping for lots of moves from David. *fingers toes and eyes crossed* LOL Dance, David, Dance!

Gayle – I’m also with you and Ray. I believe Gladys is known to David and the people there at the mission, especially the Centro Jas. They probably know what she is doing with the info she gets at these events. I believe it is all with their blessing; maybe the missionaries don’t but they have a lot more access to the internet and know what is out there concerning Elder Archuleta. What an exciting time for her! I am looking forward to the Christmas concert! Martha 🙂

Some books say that an earthquake comes, when the layers of the earth are accommodating. On October 13, I had all my layers in place, but after 19.30 pm, all my layers were everywhere, even I think I left some forgotten in Chile.
I also remember when david said! QUE CALIENTE (that hot), he meant that there was very hot.
David never lies and in fact, the general situation of everyone attending the place was as David said, hot.
Girls who were with me, they were members of the church, I think they are still looking for their jaws.
I still I have this silly grin on my face, I look like the Joker, my smile is drawn.
hahahahaha I laughed because I still remember, that came a lot of girls, members of the church, to sit beside me and I was in the middle, they wanted to sit together. I had chosen the best place, I had no one with big head before me, my view of the stage was perfect. The concert was about to begin. They asked me very kindly, Ma’am can run some places??

hahahah sorry, but that was my reaction. I said it with such emphasis that they were amazed.
I ran 6 blocks down the street Greece, to get that special place, hahahahah but that’s another story.

It was such fun on Saturday that many were come out and “play” haha ..we didn’t even have a vid,a pic but the excitement just off the chart !!! we have to be really prepare mentally/physically haha for 2014.
When David comes back !! in fact no need for him to make a new album !! just go on tour and sings all those songs he sang on Saturday I will be very very happy lol just imagine white hat, kick boxing, kneeling down 😯 haha can’t wait.

SKY – to optimize the gorgeousness factor of your screensaver, why not do an autoplay of your most fave pix? In that way the rotation would be automatic. Just go to Control Panel, then Personalization, then click on DEsktop Background. It will allow you to create a folder where al lyour well loved photos can go & rotate as your screensaver 🙂

My visit to Vegas is for business. 😦 I might find some time in the evenings for some fun if I’m not to tired from being in meetings all day. Sweetonda, I’m not a big gambler either, but we have fun out there. A group of us have went out there since back in the 80’s. The group has gotten smaller, but we still have fun. Who knows, that one quarter you play may win you a bunch! That’s the way some stories go. We’ll be getting there about 4, so it’ll be a total miss! It costs $11 a day to use my computer so I’m doing the Iphone thing. Won’t be able to get on chat this week, but I can keep up with the comments.
By the way, I have to win because the residents at work told me to “win lots of money” and I don’t want to let them down! hahaha

I’m so happy to see that the Christmas concert is confirmed. I wonder if it will be outdoors or indoors. Maybe we’ll get a glimpse or two. If we don’t, I’m ok with it because I’m so grateful that the powers that be are allowing David to continue performing and keeping that voice in shape and obviously honing his craft like Ray said. And who knows, just maybe those powers are allowing Gladys from Argentina to attend so we can have a glimpse through words to let us know everything is right on course 🙂

Oh-oh! I am leaving for a trip Santiago/Buenos Aires/Rio on the 28th – now I have to keep my eyes open in Santiago just in case I stumble upon missionaries during my trip (organized tour). When my husband wanted to do this trip I just started laughing and he said isn’t that where David is? And I will be in deep trouble if we do stumble upon The Archuleta accidently in the middle of a tour group!

With djafan’s help translating, I spoke to Gladys last night on Skype! What a fun time we had! Andrea joined us for a while, too. She’s adorable! Gladys’ voice is lovely and she understood me when I spoke to her. In English, of course. It’s no surprise that we spoke about last Saturday night’s event since I had questions like how did it feel to be there and hear his voice live, and did she feel like she was touched by an angel and what color was David’s suit, did his hair look short when pushed back, and what was her favorite song of the night and were the girls crazy about him and blah blah blah. Her recap will answer all these questions.
It was 3:00 am Eastern by the time we hung up but it was worth every second! Te Amo, Gladys! xoxoxo

Bebe — so exciting. You ladies must have had the time of your lives talking together in real time about David and actually being able to see each other. Very cute Halloween card,I likey! and David surely will too. “but no day is” ….ahh so true.No day is the same with him away. (Gets me thinking about the vlog at the kitchen table at home with his sister being ‘violent’ with the pumpkin.) hahaha!
