Reinventing David Archuleta

Posted by Abrra on Saturday, October 27, 2012

Bench Photoshoot

I saw this headline above a poll on a website that targets a young demographic:

“Do you think David Archuleta will be as famous when he returns from his two-year mission?”

Immediately it occurred to me that the timing of this question was all wrong. It’s too soon to ask because he practically just left for his mission. His status as a famous singer at this point is pretty much established. The release of two very different albums that are still fresh in the minds of fans confirms this.

Luckily for fans, David has dedicated management in Kari Sellards. For the time he is away it will be on her shoulders to keep the home fires burning with fans.

Considering that he has the opportunity to sing while on his mission is a huge advantage. It keeps his voice in shape and feeds the love he has for singing before a crowd. Keeps the instrument fine tuned, so to speak.

When David made the decision to put his career on hold to go on a church mission, he began his reinvention plan. To leave the young kid from American Idol and move on to build upon his foundation for a well-defined life and career. What better way to find yourself than to go where no one knows you. A fresh start in a far off land has given David time to reconnect with himself. He seems to have a long-term plan in mind.

While we fans want nothing more than to see him happy, David realizes in his heart what has to happen to accomplish his happiness. Right now he is fulfilling a life long dream to serve. I believe that as fans, we will realize the benefits of this journey for many years to come.

Realizing that I can do nothing but wait, I am more focused on what will be happening when David returns to the world of entertainment. The question that comes to my mind is: With so much time away, how will David reinvent his career? He has told us “I can’t wait to bring back that person I become.” What will this “new” David show us about what he has learned and applied to his craft while away? I want to believe part of what he will bring is new original songs. He is acquiring such a variety of life experiences that will surely prompt some deep lyrics ala “Broken”.

Taking his music in a whole different direction is not unusual for David. He has sung individual songs in foreign languages. Will being immersed in the Spanish language give him the confidence to finally assemble a full Spanish album? Imagine the impact on his career this would have. A whole new continent of fans in the southern hemisphere. Can Europe be far behind?

Dr. Abrra’s advice to David Archuleta:

Stay with family.
Learn to say NO.
Readjust to the fast-paced life of Utah and LA.
Date and spend time with those you care for the most.
Reestablish ties with industry people who have expressed an interest in your music.
Reacquaint yourself with those who showed you no interest in the past. They might be pleased to see the growth in your person.
Hire a stylist.
Open for an established singer. This will help to get your new stage skills honed.
Dance, dance, dance on stage!
Avoid auditioning for The Voice TV show.
Check in with the Sony Asia, TV5 and Bench folks.
Publish the songs you have already written. Record them in Nashville or LA where you have contacts.
Sign up for Music Composition and related courses. You can do these online. It will help your skills in writing and arranging songs.
Write an outline for a book on your experiences while in Chile.
Plan and execute the biggest fan appreciation concert tour the US has ever seen.
Include cities in Canada and the deep south USA.

BEGIN.

Concert and VIP Memories/The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face ~ David Archuleta

Posted by bebereader on Sunday, October 21, 2012

The first time I saw David live in concert was at a stop on his first solo tour. I knew I‘d be running late so I didn‘t get VIP tickets. Since then I have gone to six more events, and met him in person three times. I should be a pro by now and able to write the book on how to do a VIP with him, right?  Wrong! YouTube had become my BFF because it shielded me from coming face to face with him. Without fail, I revert back to my fifteen year-old shy self when I see him.

I know that there are fans out there who have not yet seen David live in concert or met him in person so I wanted to write about my first VIP experience. Thinking about it brought back some concert memories, too.

My first VIP was almost three years ago at the Taj Mahal Hotel in Atlantic City, NJ. Being there felt surreal. After months of anticipation, could this really be happening?  To make it worse, from the time I checked in to VIP to the time I actually met David was several hours. Spending the time with Marlie, Silverfox and Dawn in a special VIP room with approximately 100 other VIPers was a lot of fun. We sat at round tables and chatted while munching on New York pretzels and other assorted snacks provided by the tour promoters. While the anticipation was mounting, they tried to keep us busy by having us answer silly DJA trivia questions like what is David’s favorite food and what are the names of his animals and what is his birthdate. It didn’t work.

Time was tight, we heard, and were informed that David would not be singing “Heaven” or “Crazy” as promised, like he did in previous shows on that tour. I was so looking forward to hearing those songs. Instead, we marched to the arena where we saw sound check performances of  TMH and ALTNOY.

Then David answered some questions from the fans. Look how comfortable he was, chilling with us.

After sound check it was back to the to the VIP room when word got around that David was due to arrive for the meet and greet. It seemed like the number of people sitting at the tables multiplied when we all stood and gathered on the long line. Without even seeing him I knew that he had arrived. There was a kind of hush when David entered the room. Not even kidding. The sound actually changed from a drone of noise to one of quiet excitement. And there he was, a regular guy, except not.

Honestly, I didn’t believe all the hype about the glow around him. I had never heard of such a thing; how can a person glow? But for some reason it looked like there was constant light shining on him. I looked at the ceiling to see if there was a spotlight or a bulb or something. But I didn’t see anything. It was as if a glow was from inside him.  He was across the room so I was able to take it all in, the line of fans waiting in anticipation for their turn, the gentle manner he had with each person. I couldn’t take my eyes off of him and I wasn’t the only one.  As I got closer and closer it was as if he was larger than life, a brilliant presence, yet just a young man.

One of the things that’s so endearing about David is the way he gives each fan his undivided attention. When he finished with one fan, he looked at the line to see who was next. Yikes it was me! He looked at me and Mr. Bebereader and I froze. I had to be pulled to come forward.

I had it all planned. I prepared to ask David about the song “One” by U2 that he sang a segment of on his solo tour. With Marlie’s help, I had started a campaign and collected close to 100 letters from fans, (delivered to David by Silverfox at a prior show on the tour), encouraging him to cover the entire song. Achkkk; what I said to him came out all jumbled.

David: Heyyyyyyy! (Big smile, you know the one.)
Fifteen year old Me: Hi David, remember the one letters?
David: Huh????? (his signature huh?)
Who could blame him? It sounded like I was doing a play on words with one/won. I rattled his brain and explained yada yada yada, ciss boom bang. And then he said…
David: Oh yeah!!!!!
Me: Do you think you’ll sing the whole song one day?
David: I don’t know but I really love that song!

Phbbbbbt!  After all that, I got a non-answer! We took the picture and away I went. Ironically, Mr. Bebereader had a more coherent and satisfying conversation with David about picking him to win from the audition and  wishing he had 100 students like him.  It was interesting to stand around and observe the other fans after their encounter with David. Each person looked touched in some way, either with a permanent grin on their face or like they needed to get outside for some fresh air.

My memories of the actual Atlantic City concert are hazy because my upgraded Row 2 VIP seats were so far over to the left that I could barely see David onstage. In between songs, David talked about Halloween and asked what costumes people wore. I remember sitting behind a little girl and her Mother. During the show, the girl turned around several times and looked at me. Then she whispered something to her Mom. (Did I have something in my teeth? Was I singing a little too loud?) Shortly after, the Mom turned around and asked “Excuse me, are you David’s mother? My daughter said that she thinks you are. ”  Trust me; I look nothing like Lupe Archuleta. But I was so tickled and responded with “No, but I wish I had a son like him!”

When the show was over all the fans found each other and congregated in the lobby of the hotel, not wanting to go!  Such good memories.

For those of you who have been to David’s concerts and/or VIPs, are there any memories that stand out that you’d like to share?

By Special Invitation, Gladys went to Chile! ~ David Archuleta

Posted by bebereader on Monday, October 15, 2012

Original by Matt Clayton

 By Abrra and Bebereader

You had to be there on Saturday night to witness the absolute joy and passion from Gladys in reaction to the Musica Pop concert she attended by special invitation from the Senior Elders in Chile. The performers were Elder Archuleta on vocals and Elder Coello on piano. If you were lucky enough to secure a “seat” in The Voice Unplugged then you were privy to the excitement.

Gladys arrived to a room packed full of fans, waiting on the edge of our seats to see her, to hear every little detail of her experience, and then some. Let’s face it, we are missing David so much that it hurts and Gladys, who was so tired from her trip was full of energy as she spoke to us in-depth. She was generous of heart to follow with a question/answer session and we hung onto every word. We are, after all, a very inquisitive bunch! Abrra diligently copied excerpts from the chat text for you to read. Here is Djafan’s translation as it appears in the actual chat text, in upper case letters. Gladys will, of course, follow up with her own recap.

Gladys’ two-sentence recap:

I’M GOING TO SHARE IN GENERAL THINGS TO SWEETEN THINGS A BIT. HE SANG IMAGINE, DANCED SALSA, A SONG BY CELIA CRUZ, AND DANCED LIKE TO AL JOLSON

Size of crowd

TEN CHAIRS AT EACH SIDE, 20 ROWS AND MORE PEEPS IN THE BACK (400+ attended)

How he looked, what he wore

…DAVID IS STILL BEAUTIFUL AS EVER

WHEN I SAW DAVID DANCING AND SINGING, I SWEAR I THOUGHT OF TELLING EVERYONE THAT HE HAS GROWN, HIS CONFIDENCE IS HUGE, ON STAGE TRANSFORMS. TIMID NOT, IT DIDN’T EVEN EXIST.

HE SMILED AND ALL THE TIME SAID THAT HE WAS HOT

LAUGHED  A LOT AND HE IS NO LONGER LOOKING THIN
HE LOOKS GOOD AND SOME HAS GROWN, BIGGER BODY

HE DID THIS ALL DANCING IN A SUIT, MY GOD, I CRIED. THE GIRL NEXT TO ME DID TOO. WE COULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT WE WERE WATCHING, WE COULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT WE WERE SEEING.

TIE WAS TURQUOISE ♥

Language he spoke and sang

DAVID ALMOST NEVER SPOKE ENGLISH, HE SPOKE IN SPANISH

IT WAS ALL IN SPANISH, HE DID NOT SPEAK ANYTHING IN ENGLISH, GAVE A SPEECH IN PERFECT SPANISH.

HE SPEAKS IT REAL GOOD EXCEPT FOR SOME WORDS. HE GAVE A TALK ABOUT HIS DECISION IN SPANISH

WHEN HE FINISHED SINGING, HE SAID THAT IN HIS COUNTRY, THE AUDIENCE HE ASKED FOR MORE BUT DID NOT KNOW HOW SOME THINGS WERE SAID IN SPANISH

What he sang

HE SANG MANY HYMNS AT THE BEGINNING. WE WERE SCOLDED BECAUSE WE CLAPPED AND SCREAMED, BUT THEN IT COULDN’T BE HELPED.

AS A TRIBUTE TO THE ELDERS HE SANG DIXIE,  DOWN TO AL JOLSON AND KNEELED. DAVID WAS ON FIRE WHEN HE DANCED SALSA.

THE WHITE HAT HE WORE TO SING THE SONG OF AL JOLSON, WHEN HE FINISHED HE THREW THE HAT TO THE PUBLIC. I HAVE NEVER SEEN HIM LIKE THIS.

ALSO SANG IMAGINE AND THOUSAND MILES. HE ALSO SANG  HERO AND DREAM A MORNING IN SPANISH.  HE  SANG AN ARGENTINIAN SONG, I WAS UNCONSCIOUS, CALLED “THANKS TO LIFE”. IT’S A BEAUTIFUL SONG.

HE SANG ITS WONDERFUL WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!

HE SANG A SONG FROM THE MOVIE ROCKY, THE ORIGINAL SONG. PROBABLY EYE OF THE TIGER
WHEN HE WAS SINGING IT HE ACTED LIKE A BOXER, IT WAS TERRIBLE, EVERYONE WAS DROOLING

HE DID SOME IN FALALA SALSA STEPS THAT WAS NOTHING, HE REALLY DANCED.

HE ASKED US TO STAND AND DANCE WITH HIM WHEN HE SANG SONG BY CELIA CRUZ.

LIFE IS A CARNIVAL BY CELIA CRUZ, OMG! HE DANCED SALSA DANCING HE WAS SERIOUSLY, HE SAID HE LIKED THE AUDIENCE THAT DANCED WITH HIM NOT LIKE THAT MANY NORTH AMERICANS STAY SEATED.

Decision to go on a mission

HE SAID THAT THE DECISION TO GO ON A MISSION WAS SOMETHING THAT CAME FROM HIS HEART, JUST LIKE THE MUSIC, IT WAS A DECISION BUT SOMETHING DIFFICULT HE HAD TO DO.

His performance

JUST HIM AND LITTLE PIANO PLAYER. THE MAN IS SENSATIONAL, AND IN TRUTH COELLO PLAYS VERY WELL, PLAYED SEVERAL WALTZES. HE LAUGHED A LOT WITH COELLO.

TO SEE DAVID TO DANCE AND SING KNEEL, KARATE KICK IS SOMETHING I WILL NEVER FORGET WHILE I’M ALIVE.

WHEN THEY STARTED PLAYING THE NOTES OF ROCKY SONG, HE STARTED MOVING HIS ARMS LIKE BOXERS TO THE BACK, THEN TO THE FRONT, AND THEN BOXED WITH AN IMAGINARY SHADOW BOXER, IT WAS FUNNY.

AND THEN KICKING THE AIR LIKE A KICK BOXER, UNDERSTAND THAT I NEVER THOUGHT IN MY LIFE DAVID WAS GOING TO DO ANYTHING LIKE THIS.

HE WORE A WHITE HAT AND DID SOME DANCE STEPS AND CLOSE BY SANG COELLO. WHEN HE STARTED THE AL JOLSON SONG, HE STOOD NEXT TO COELLO AND THEY STARTED SINGING. THEY BOTH PUT ON THE WHITE HATS AND DAVID CAME TO THE CENTER OF THE STAGE

HIS VOICE HAS IMPROVED, NOW CAN HOLD ANY NOTE LONGER, NOT CHANGED, IMPROVED, HAVING HIS VOICE VERY RELAXED, THAT MUST BE IT.

The crowd

THEY TOOK HIM OUT HURRIEDLY, HE WANTED TO GREET US BUT THEY DID NOT LET.

THEY TOOK HIM OUT SO FAST AND HE KEPT SMILING.

YES THE SISTERS AND THE MISSIONARIES KNOW HE’S A FAMOUS RECORDING STAR. ALL THE YOUNG GIRLS THAT FILLED THE PLACE DID, TOO.

CHANTED EVERYONE “ONE MORE! ONE MORE!”

No pictures or video allowed

NOT VIDEOING OR PHOTOS. IT WAS NOT ALLOWED, THEY WERE GUARDING, THEY WERE WATCHING ME BECAUSE I WAS TAKING NOTES.

NO, YOU COULD NOT FILM OR TAKE PICTURES, WAS FORBIDDEN AND THERE WERE PEOPLE ON THE SIDE WATCHING.

The excitement doesn’t end here! There will be another public event in Chile at Christmas time that Gladys plans to attend.

All Atwitter About David Archuleta

Posted by betsy on Friday, October 12, 2012

The other night I was going back through some old tweets. I came upon my entire livetweet of the Grand Rapids TOSOD show that I attended in early October, 2010. I didn’t realize I sent so many. I KNOW I have a twitter addiction, but this was ridiculous.

I know I already wrote a recap of this show a long time ago. But these are tweets that were written in the moment, most were written with David in front of me, singing and jumping and having a blast.

Right now, memories are what we have. So I thought I’d share mine.

The day started out cold and rainy. I couldn’t get out of working that Saturday. I DID leave work 2 hours early. Got home, changed, grabbed my camera, hopped in my car. Started backing out of the driveway and my car decided to die right there.

Fast forward to 2 hours later, I arrived in Grand Rapids driving my husband’s truck.  🙂

I found the area and the soundcheck was starting.

These are the tweets I sent. I am leaving in all of my errors. I was standing in a crowd of 20 thousand people.

This was the beginning of TOSOD. And ALL of these people got into it. Man, woman, child. Didn’t matter.

Jamie Grace ~ Reminding me of David Archuleta

Posted by bluesky4home on Sunday, October 7, 2012

There is a song from the musical, “Finnigans Rainbow” that includes the line: “When I’m not near the girl I love, I love the girl I’m near!” That sentiment is fairly understandable for the character in the story, but it doesn’t really ‘work for me’ where DA and his music is concerned. *_*

Still, now and then I run into a really fun individual that has SOME of the same qualities that I so admire in the Voice. Ergo… “Reminding me of DA”.

For today, Jamie Grace is “Reminding me of DA”, and I wonder, have I found DA’s “Sister-from-another-mother”?

Jamie Grace is a 20-year-old singer/songwriter who just graduated from college (she began early). She has had a bundle of challenges thrown at her since early childhood. Yet, sustained by the love and support of her family, especially her relationship with her sister, she has not only overcome, but somehow, thrived. The beginning of her upward journey began with a set of drums given to her by her father. Instead of the ”girl with Tourette’s syndrome”, she became the “girl who plays music”. This last year she was nominated for a Grammy. She writes of her early life: “I grew up a sick kid, Tourette’s syndrome, ADHD, asthma, pneumonia… my sister was one of the few constants in my life offering a smile, hug or movie night on top of her patience and strength.”

Here is the official video of her song, “Hold Me”, featuring Toby Mac, who discovered her and has been supporting her career.

I hear ‘happy’ in her voice. I hear DA’s funky rhythm and blues. I hear a joy that shines without being glossy, a glow that generously invites, rather than the pulsing strobe of manufactured necessity.

(DA… I want to hear a duet. I am seriously asking the universal powers-that-be to work on this… ((You have 1.5 years, powers….  Do it.)) )

This video is of her song, “Not Alone”. Jamie tells about writing it:

“I wrote this song in just a few hours sitting at my piano needing to pour my heart. Having had friends who have survived cancer and other illnesses but also having had a good friend go to be with Jesus after a battle with cancer just this year I’ve seen firsthand the strength it takes to endure that type of pain. This particular song shares the story of a mother with a child who is sick but she is yet understanding that God’s arms are right there and she’s not alone. I hope this is an encouragement to you whether you’ve face difficulty with illness, finances, relationships or whatever it is. “We may have pain, but not as great as His name.”

Jamie… I hear the sweet, breathy vowels like those used by Lights. I love those “oooos” at the beginning.  The depth and feeling in the delivery. The courage. The commitment. Yeah, I’m signing up for the DA/JG concert!

For Christmas, she gathered lots of family and friends and wrote the song “Christmas Together”.

The chorus includes these words:

“And unless ya got 20 people,
stuck on an elevator,
I can’t imagine a time —
When we’re all this close!”

Seriously? An elevator? Somehow that just rang a bell with me.  ^_^

On a more serious note, Jamie just posted a new video on Sep 6 2012 for a young cousin who is in the hospital. She covers a song by Emeli Sandé, “My Kind of Love”. Jamie changes the last verse and adds an impromptu chorus at the end as a message:

“You see the times, they’re changing, I’m sure of nothing that I know
Except this is us, this is love. This is where I’m home
And while hearts breaking, and nothing is for keeps,
This is us, this is love. This is where I sleep”

In my view, this song and her delivery of it, is a rather good summation or post-script to the message from DA’s album: Begin.

Anyway…..

(Dear DA: The weather is good. The family is fine. While you are gone, I’ll try not to whine.)

Let me know what you think of Jamie Grace! And whose reminding you of DA?

Here are the lyrics to “My Kind of Love” by Emeli Sandé

I can’t buy your love, don’t even wanna try.
Sometimes the truth won’t make you happy, so I’m not gonna lie.
But don’t ever question if my heart beats only for you, it beats only for you.

I know i’m far from perfect, nothin’ like your entourage
I can’t grant you any wishes, I won’t promise you the stars.
But don’t ever question if my heart beats only for you, it beats only for you.

Cause when you’ve given up.
When no matter what you do it’s never good enough.
When you never thought that it could ever get this tough,
Thats when you feel my kind of love.

And when you’re crying out.
When you fall and then can’t pick, you’re heavy on the ground
When the friends you thought you had haven’t stuck around.
That’s when you feel my kind of love.

You won’t see me at the parties, I guess I’m just no fun.
I won’t be turning up the radio singing “Baby You’re The One”.
But don’t ever question if my heart beats only for you, it beats only for you.

I know sometimes I get angry, and I say what i don’t mean.
I know I keep my heart protected, far away from my sleeve.

Cause when you’ve given up.
When no matter what you do it’s never good enough.
When you never thought that it could ever get this tough,
That’s when you feel my kind of love.

You can see her sing it here:

Not the best recording for her voice, but I think it was the emotion. Still a great listen.

Here is Jamie showing up with little kids… Enjoy.

David Archuleta ~ Keeping Him Relevant

Posted by djafan on Wednesday, October 3, 2012

The six month mark of David Archuleta’s departure has just passed and we have eighteen months to go. I’m measuring time by holidays and it seems to be working. Labor Day was just last month, Halloween is almost here and Thanksgiving soon after. Christmas is going to be tough this year without David but I’m so looking forward to it because it’s also close to the beginning of the twelve month countdown. There are days I miss David so much it hurts and although it was a tough road getting to this place, I’m ok with him being gone now; I truly believe he had to go.

In the meantime I have his music to get me through every day and his voice on interviews on my ipod to get me through the night. You may have seen my name, djafan, on comments on articles relating to David found on the web. You may also have seen me voting on polls and mentioning David’s name as much as possible, tweeting and trending, etc. You get it. LOL This is what I do.

We all have a comfort zone on how we support David and this is my way of keeping his name relevant.  By letting the world know he has passionate fans that are not going anywhere, the media stays interested in him. It works; it really does. For example, recently Cook and Kris Allen were dropped from their labels just months apart and it was barely a blip in the social media. David, however,  made mainstream media with the so-called “dropped” news that he was let go from his label when it was really the opposite. David chose not to renew his contract. As soon as his passionate fans started correcting the news the media then picked it up too, and many made an attempt to correct it.

The mission news made headlines also; not only on the internet but television also carried the news, showing clips of the video. I attribute this continued interest by the media to David’s go-getter fans.  Most reality show alums have just fallen off the radar, but David Archuleta has not and our intention is to keep his name  relevant and out there.

With this in mind and after much prodding from my fellow Adms, I encourage you to vote, to comment, to view David’s videos, to like his Facebook posts, to comment on his OS, heck even his MySpace page has been updated and it‘s beautiful.

I like to follow some charts on David’s social media status, yes the information is out there, you just need to look for it.  Here is a two month comparison. You can see that there have been some drops that can easily be reversed.

It’s really simple to get and keep these numbers up.  Watching his videos on Vevo and on his official you tube channel are all you have to do to raise the numbers. Typing David’s name into any search field and in any comment counts as a mention. Why worry about mentions? With every mention, his name is being counted on the internet, which raises his social status.

These are examples of things to do to increase David’s social status or popularity.

Wikipedia — Counted when a visitor loads an artist’s page.

Google – Google David Archuleta daily.

Twitter Mentions — Counted each time an artist’s Twitter handle (@davidarchie) is mentioned by another Twitter user.

Comment – Comment whenever David’s name appears in an article. It doesn’t need to be anything fancy. Just writing David Archuleta will suffice in getting the internet bots* to count him.

*(An Internet Bot is a software application that does repetitive and automated tasks in the Internet that would otherwise take humans a long time to do. The most common Internet bots are the spider bots which are used for web server analyses and file data gathering.)

Here are some David related links you can visit to increase his status. You can use these to listen, view and/or comment.

Lastly, please don’t stop sending David mail. I read on several missionary blogs that it’s common for the mail to slow way down after the sixth month. They say family and friends start to get used to them being gone and not part of their daily routine. David doesn’t just have family and friends but a whole lot of fans he wants to hear from. Why else set up an address for us?

David Archuleta
P. O. Box 4297
Apopka, FL 32704
USA

I hope you all can join me in my campaign to keep David’s name relevant during his absence.

Remembering Dakgal

Posted by djafan on Tuesday, October 2, 2012

This willow angel is one of a collection that Dakgal loved very much and shared with Abrra as a gift.

Thank you all so very very much for your kind comments regarding our mother, Cherryl, known to most of you as dakgal. On behalf of us, her children, Scott, Bret, Tim and Lisa, you gave her more joy than you’ll ever comprehend. We enjoyed so much listening to her when she spoke of David and you, her on line friends–it just made her so damn happy!!! So again, from our entire family, thank you all and God bless each and everyone of you. Scott, Bret, Tim and Lisa

I received a phone call from Dakgal’s son to give me some very sad news.  Dakgal passed away yesterday morning at 6am from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).   He wanted to thank me for being her friend over the last few years. He said that her online friends at The Voice and Unplugged gave her much happiness, especially during her illness. I told her son how much  she loved David’s music and that she had requested an mp3 of this Ave Maria.

She always told me she wanted David to sing this song at her funeral. Her son said the family knew how much pleasure Dak got from listening to David and they will play Ave Maria ( from CFTH CD) at her service.  This is the son who accompanied her to the Sioux Falls Concert in 2009.

Abrra

We are going to miss Dak dearly.  Her sense of humor and the way she expressed herself were so endearing.  I want to celebrate her time with us by sharing what she shared with us.

David Archuleta ~ Man of a Thousand Faces

Posted by dakgal on Sunday, July 29, 2012

It has been kept a deep dark, well-guarded secret that on December 28, 1990, Lupe Archuleta gave birth to dodecatuplets.

Consider if you will, this all too familiar refrain that was Marlie’s #51 comment on Angelica’s recent post, Cover Me.

“The photos – OMG – how many David’s are there?  The man of a thousand (gorgeous) faces.”

There is not ONE person in this world who can change in looks so much–in the snap of a camera.  Near as I can figure there are 11 identical and one fraternal (the one they used on the CFTH album and the new album BEGIN.)   How can one person go from the cuddly little boy look–to the boy next door look –to the hot smexy man look with a face dripping with emotion?  No one person can go from a tousled haired boy wearing the Dennis The Menace look in a striped T-shirt—looking like he just took his dog for a ride in the wagon, to a steamy, suave, sophisticated ( I’ll make your knees buckle) young man dressed in a tuxedo—probably in a matter of hours!!

Now I think I have identified four of them–David–Ricky–Archie and Josh.  Am keeping a keen eye out for the other eight.

This is only common sense–how else could he have kept up the rigorous schedule he has had at times–and the international travel-jet lag–without even a mini bag under one eye?  Always as fresh as a daisy.  Hah!

HEY!  I didn’t just get off the pickle boat—the banana boat maybe.  Some of the media even report him as being in two places at once–which adds fuel to my fire!!

I figure that there are two in Chile—-one at home perfecting the guitar playing (when this one comes out, be prepared for a grand-mal-spazz).  Elsewhere in the world, another is polishing up and learning new dance and swagger/strut moves and leg lifts –to be used at random–one is off writing songs—one is out scouting out restaurants–all this is impossible for one person to do.  Lord only knows what the rest are up to, but I’m sure we will find out in due time—there is a long ways to go yet.

I’m sure some people in Chile are suspicious too.  They are at a meeting or church talking with a rather shy, soft-spoken, humble young man—then he is called upon to sing—he leaves the room for a moment, to check his teeth for debris.  He comes back out confident and in charge of every minute—the piano starts playing and when he belts out the first few notes, they all suck in a collective gasp and as the norm—forget to exhale—but they are thinking “ THIS CAN’T BE THE SAME PERSON!”

Then there is the not so small matter of all those shoes and clothes David has amassed –very rarely is he seen wearing the same shoes or clothes twice.

So!!!  Where are they???

Divided by twelve—THAT’S where they are!!!

And! Who grows their hair that fast in one week? I could go on and on, but you might think I’m nuts.

Or AM I?

I happen to have a VERY RELIABLE SOURCE.

A Little Mouse Tale

Posted by dakgal on Tuesday, July 6, 2010

Recent photo of David and I

Most people have forgotten about me, so I thought I’d introduce myself.

Hola!  My name is Viajero, which in English means “traveler”, and I have a tale to tell you.  I was born and raised in Honduras, but decided I wanted a more adventurous life, so one day I stowed away in the first suitcase that I thought was headed out of town.  Little did I know I would wind up in the U.S. of A.

When the suitcase was opened again, I learned I was in this kids’ bedroom and made a mad dash for a hiding place before I could be discovered, scrambled into a drawer, and set up housekeeping.  I gnawed on some papers to make myself a bed and found out that this kid loves to eat; food was no problem, so I was comfy enough.

It didn’t take long before I found out that the kids’ name is David and he loves to sing ALL the time.   I mean that’s all he ever does! (besides eat).  Well, this singing stuff started to rub off on me, so I decided to chime in and sing along.  I play a mean sax too.

We sang everything from church songs to Christmas songs, songs he made up, even sang along with the radio.  You name it we sang it.  He knew them all, well maybe not the Oscar Meyer wiener song, cause he doesn’t tell a lie.  haha!  He could never hear me though, because he has such a powerful voice.

One day the singing suddenly stopped and David seemed to be very somber a lot, passing the time by writing down words and musical notes.  It broke my heart.  Many, many times I just wanted to give him a big ‘ol mouse hug.  Soon, he started to make strange noises, pinching his cheeks with his fingers and making purring noises.  Like to have scared me to death the first time I heard it.  There were lots of A-E-I-O-U’s and la-la-las sung too, along with other strange noises.  Before long, he had this beautiful velvety voice, and we went back to singing non-stop.

Shortly after that, David packed his suitcase and backpack and didn’t come back.  I was so lonely and sad, what in the world had happened to him?

Now, this was very weird, the bedroom started filling up with boxes and boxes of letters and gifts.  I had a field day investigating all of this; I could stay out of the drawer for hours at a time.

Hallelujah, David came home one day and this is where my little abode was discovered, which was okay, because I had decided we would not be parted again.  I hid in his backpack, which was  very risky, but a good move because wherever HE goes, IT goes.

There are always plenty of snacks on board to keep my tummy full, i.e. trail mix, dried fruit.

And the occasional Cheeto. You can’t be good all the time.

Don’t worry I don’t ever leave him any “gifts” I am backpack and suitcase trained.  haha!  I hid behind anything that was handy, like an old flattened out milk carton or a pair of socks, that is, until I was joined by a guy named Totoro.   Hiding behind him was really cozy.  He didn’t talk much and when he did I couldn’t understand him or him me.  He left one day and never returned.  Go figure.

Turns out my David is a rising star in the world, so the rest of this tale is like a whirlwind.  I’ve been to the Philippines, Singapore, Koala Lumpur and the UK and crisscrossed the USA many times, doing concerts and book signings and appearances.  Never in my wildest dreams, did I think my adventure would turn out to be so thrilling.  At first I thought when the girls started screaming when they saw David it was because they had somehow caught sight of me.  WRONG!  They were just so excited to see and hear David, they just can’t help it!  We even went back to my home land once, but I didn’t stay because I’ve gotten so attached to David.

Lately we have been in New York, Nashville and Los Angeles a lot, where I have been lucky enough to be the literal mouse in the corner, and have heard all his new recordings and can’t wait until his new single and album come out and  we’re on the road again.  Look out world here we come!  Muy  emocionante!

Needless to say, I have been bitten by the “show biz” bug and am a pretty decent singer myself, thanks to David.  Without David’s knowledge, I have opened for him many a time (beneath the stage).    I do have some performing skills in my blood though as Topo Gigio, of TV fame, was a great great uncle on my Mom’s side.  Also the widely renowned actor of the big screen, Speedy Gonzales, is a very distant cousin.

After watching how David has grown in so many ways over these years, from a young boy to a fine young man. I know, first hand, what you see is what you get.  He always stays true to himself, is the best of the best and I love him like a brother.

Maybe one of these times, one of you will catch a glimpse of me—Go ahead and scream.

I’m very saddened by the loss of Dakgal, one of our David friends. I never had the pleasure of meeting her but her personality came through in her comments and in her banter with us in the chatroom. We spent many nights laughing with her. She was just so funny, had a great sense of humor and she always made us laugh. But equally as important, she was very wise and many times acted in a motherly way to us. I’ll never forget how she took the time to listen to me in chat when I needed to talk. She was the voice of reason and I will miss her so much.
~ Bebereader

I pulled a few of her comments through the years to remember her…

“Thank you for the lovely article. Put me in the thinking mode. You reminded me of this–when two people are having a conversation-there are actually six
people involved.

1. The person you think I am.
2. The person that I convey to you.
3. The person I really am.

and visa-versa

Wow! makes my brain hurt.
There is one person that can pull all six people together– David.
He is amazing in a thousand ways.
Love this family and would love to meet everyone of you.”

“Angelica–you little stinker–you did it again. Read your article earlier and all the responses–Once again I am at a loss for words!! I guess David and I are kind of alike in that way. I can’t always express myself in words ( as so many here can)–and I sure can’t sing–so I guess I’m stuck.

But I can say your article is wonderful and you are a beautiful writer!!

I love it here.;)

♪♪ ♥ These are words I want to say, every hour of every day– to say how good it feels to be here with you ( all) today ♪♪♥”

“As unusual I’m Tail End Charlie—after reading all the comments-I feel every adjective known to man has been used to describe this album and David’s  voice—so I’m stuck with all that’s left!

IT’S THE BEES’ KNEES!!!! AND THE CAT’S PAJAMAS 😛 😛 :P”

“Why is it after seeing hundreds of pictures of David–every new one that I see –seems like the first one I have ever laid eyes on?”

“Off topic—but a story:
When I called my phone company today, to find out about overseas rates–a young man with a nice voice answered and said ” Hi, This is David, how can I help you?…………….WELL,I about swallowed my tongue and my brain froze!!! I’m sure there was even a little audible gasp. It took me quite a few seconds to regain my wits enough to continue with the onversation………..For someone with one David on their mind all the time I was not expecting to hear that–threw me for a loop—–now how silly is that!!!

So Abs —is the booth open? I think I need to spend a quarter. 😉

Chapter two: My son , who lives in an apartment complex, was rudely awakened last night by the buildings fire alarm. Everybody in the building was out in the parking—–WELL — no fire—-It seems that when the LDS missionaries, who live there, came in the entrance door–one of their back pack straps had gotten caught on the fire alarm lever and set it off.  The poor guy was so embarrassed—but said ” Well , at least I’ll have something to tell Mom about.”

“Funniest thing I read on one of the sites ( not from a missionary blog) -a newspaper article —one of the girls at the MTC said –”David wears the tightest missionary pants.” LOL -but, we wouldn’t know anything about that. ;)”

“I have fallen down the rabbit hole of “Forevermore” and I can’t get up!  Does anybody else find themselves-at different times of the day–having random thoughts –like ” well, I suppose David is eating lunch now–or “well he’s in class now-”-wonder what he does between supper and bedtime?” Do they have movies?–play games?–study?– have some fun time?  Am I sick?  Done rambling. 😉 Carry on.”

“Had a thought this morning –that one week ago David’s thumbs had to give up tweeting and texting–COLD TURKEY!!! Seeing my grandkids with their cell phone and how they seem to be an extension of their arms, this could not have been easy!!! Bet he found his thumbs twitching a lot–I can picture him sleeping -with his thumbs moving. Haha”

“As I told the guys in chat last night I have been blessed with dreams of David where I am reading things that are written—no images –no people just words—Last nights installment ( what I can remember ) Someone was writing that David had come from behind to win a foot race against two other guys for the only spot left on the MTC flag football team. They mentioned –that he really knew how to pace himself. Haha How’s that for a weird dream. 😉 ”

“Between all the tears and the sucking in of my breath every time a new picture of David pops up, it’s a wonder I don’t have a permanent case of the hiccups.”

On Nandito Ako
“I, for one am still into NA—wish it could go on a while longer–David has done a bang up job. I personally am waiting for Uncle Stevil’s bow tie to fly off his shirt—-Cause I’m positive it’s the propeller off of his beanie cap! ;)”

“I bout jumped out of my skin when Josh laid that kiss on his Mom’s cheek EEEEP I know it was just Josh kissing his Mom–but he was using David’s lips”

“Did I hear Josh call the woman ” Auntie”?
Maybe she is doing this without the Mom’s knowledge–to surprise her! She must have caught sight of Uncle Steve ( who is a cross between Snidely Whiplash and Groucho Marx) somewhere and knows who Josh is……Personally , I’m waiting for the day Uncle Steve and Margarite ( who is a cross between the evil queen and some opera diva) and get SMACKED and banished from the kingdom—-oh–bring it on– I feel like pulling some hair myself!!! This is so entertaining..and I have several favs…David , of course, his road manager the guy—-don’t know his name–and the neighborhood hair dresser…..With basically NO training in acting David is hitting it out of the ballpark!!!!!”

“Because I’m the WHO-WHAT-WHY AND WHERE lady….I need help—- who is and where did the person come from all of the sudden… yelling to Josh about his Mom being alive..and looking for him….how does she know Josh is the son?…and I saw her give Josh half of a picture…where did he come up with the other half????…aaaand one half was of just the mother and the other half had Josh and his Dad–which half did he have???? Wouldn’t it make sense if he had a half a picture with he and his Mom? OH, the drama—- Half a watch and now half a picture—– My hair is getting grayer by the minute……. I feel like I’ve missed a whole episode. Can anyone splain this mess? Am I taking this too serious??? Do I need an intervention???”

“Top ‘O’ the evening to all you little Archuchauns—-I must have forgotten to pay my WordPress dues or somthin–wouldn’t let me post til I signed in–WELL–I never signed out!! So after jumping thru three hoops– several cartwheels-a somersault and a new password–it now likes me. 😉 Go figure.”

“WELL!!!!! I NEVER–in my life have seen a more photogenic human being–it’s to the point where it’s beyond words–it’s ridiculous!!!”

One of our voices has been silenced but we will always remember her wit and love for David and everyone here. God be with you, dearest Dakgal, till we meet again. May he hold you in the palm of his hand the way Viajero rests in David’s. May you always feel our love. You will be sorely missed.
