Oh the tranquility of silence, how wonderful and generous a time that allows us to think, to discover and rediscover what we have deep within our minds and hearts. I awoke from a dream one night with one of David’s songs from his new album going on and on in my head. I had to reach for it and listen to it. So in this night it felt as if he was patiently waiting there for it to be discovered, with a peaceful smile on his face and the question, “What took you so long?” I felt elated because the words in the song give us the story that speaks to us about David and his journey. We are familiar with much of life being symbolic to David like the mere mention to us in a tweet of the formation of beautiful clouds in the blue sky one day. Watching him talk to a squirrel in a park is his way of giving us a gentle nudge to slow down and look at what is real and natural. He was reminding us then to notice the simple things. What took us so long? Only the greats can reach out to people and touch them through their art and in his near silence, he is fast becoming one of the greats.
Without hesitation I hear David’s own thoughts throughout the song. He is strongly passionate about everything in nature that is part of the land and he takes himself away to it whenever he can. I remember the day when he drove off into the mountains and sent the following picture back to us. The words of the song go wonderfully well with his picture. David doesn’t speak to one person but to everyone and it would not be odd for him to ask us if this might be a place where we would love to go.

Although this is not a Beatles song, I hear Paul McCartney which makes it so amazing to now hear it in David’s voice. He complements the words, the music and the English flare and I find that extraordinarily exciting. The lyrics seem to reflect upon David’s own beliefs. So now as the words of the song so obviously portray, perhaps where he has gone has become where he has longed to begin. It is possible that this is somewhere and something that he can rely on to be with him and guide him for the rest of his life. We require some environmental serenity in order to achieve spiritual sensitivity.

I also hear the influence of Paul McCartney too as have several others who have commented about it. Oh yeah. That Beatles Anthology we gave him at the book signing during MOtab from everyone at The Voice is starting to pay off now. LOL! Well…anything’s possible.

I really like the snippet of David’s cover of the Keane song “Somewhere Only We Know”. The more I hear it, the more I hear The Beatles influence! Wish he’d just cover the entire Beatles catalogue already! LOL

SB, where do I BEGIN.? I’m always curious to see how you are going to connect your thoughts. You never disappoint. David seems to be in the beginning of something epic, everyone is talking about it. Love the quotes, the connections to past events. Didn’t see them then but they sure seem to fit now. Somewhere Only is a song I didn’t recognize but the melody sounds familiar. David of course has now in 20 seconds taken posession of it.

Don’t Give Up, is a duet. Well, I was remembering a tweet Kari sent a while back that said there would be a surprise on the CD. Could she have meant the duet partner? And I know it’s a stretch of the imagination, but I wonder if there is any way Joy Williams might have done it with him? I’m anxious to hear that song now. lol My curiosity is running away with me.

Oh, and I LOVE the snippet of true colors. I had two windows open just now, one with Lauper’s rendition and one with the snippet of David’s version playing the same parts. I really do like David’s version more. Guess I shouldn’t be surprised by now. 🙂

I told my friend today this second snippet of David’s, True Colors is so beautiful, so gorgeous, so David. This song exemplifies to me David’s true inner being. I couldn’t put my finger on what was just so irresistible about David when I first saw him on AI. (well, aside from his darling face and stunning voice.) it was undefinable. Just pure love and acceptance on his part. Always seeing the good in others. Taking the high road. It is so obvious now. I’m so grateful that I was “chosen” to get David. I feel a great kinship with all of you. Thank you, David. Thank you fellow fans.

Pocoelsey thank you for your comment. Although I am surrounded by non David fans (family) I have no problem standing my ground when it comes to David. They grudgingly tolerate my ODD. Once when David was on a morning talk show, my husband watched the segment with me. David was of course, his usual charming self. When it was over my husband said “Well, he does have a winning personality.” Hope springs eternal!

Annmargaret, must be a bit lonely when you live among non fans but whatever it is David make it so easy for us to stand up for him and stand our ground too, he such a good guy almost flawless !!! my family is a big fan of David my 2 daughts look up to him (thank goodness) but hubby is just um…so..so I think it’s just the “ego” thing haha or David’s aura just intimidate or like a threat to them… guys, one thing though my hubby once admited after David’s concert that David is uber talented and charming and handsome haha, that’s the undenieable truth!!!

So true…and so valuable and rare to find that ability in today’s rushed and crazy world. And particularly for someone in the limelight who has to juggle so many balls and fill so many expectations! I think that is one of the main things that draws people to him…that he is able to really live in the moment….to leave everything behind and throw himself fully into a song, into the glimpse of a sunrise, into a simple meal, into a chance encounter with a squirrel…into a brief moment with a fan. I think that because of this ability he is able to really connect with his fans, even if he only has 2 to 3 seconds to shake their hand or give them a simple smile, he is totally present in that moment…and that is a powerful thing. I think that is possibly why it is difficult for him to have people telling him what to do, or how to be…the magic with David is in his ability to “just be” …that’s when the real magic happens.

100 days?! Has it really been 100 days? Wow, I might just make it after all!! What is it…about 7 times that?…and then we’re almost there! I wonder how quickly it’s passing for David. He seems to really throw himself into whatever he’s doing and make the most of each experience.

I can’t stop listening to that snippet of True Colours. I hope they release a snippet Broken soon. I want that to be as wonderful as all the other great songs in the album.
Besides Broken, the song I am most curious about is Don’t Give Up. Who is the other voice? Is there going to be another voice or have they rearranged it so it’s all David. But I really can’t see it working out as a solo.
The song I am most nervous about is Bridge Over Troubled Water. Art Garfunkel’s version is the only one I Iike. No one sings it like him. I don’t want to have to skip this song every time I listen to the album, just like I skip that duet on his Christmas CD because I cannot abide the female voice there.

The American Idol Tour in the summer of 2008 visited 49 cities, performed 53 concerts and sold 482,870 tickets.
The screaming started with the first announcement of his name and continued throughout his four song set. Poised and polished he dominated the stage with his power ballad, “When You Say You Love Me.”
Words by Robin Scoffield and Music by Mark Hammond it has been one of my favorite love songs for quite a while.
David’s assured confidence on stage was incredible to watch, from Glendale, Arizona to Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is the consummate professional and gives us – something from his heart – his music soul!
When David Archuleta sings not only does he bring intensity into his songs but motion and poetry as well. I feel I am flying with him in song as he takes you to a place only he knows and when finished gently brings you back. David performing on stage is poetry in motion.
He provided a romantic listening experience with waves of enchantment that held his audience captive. The way his angelic voice awakens your soul is phenomenal. The passionate lyrics leave you breathless and the way David captures all the emotions sweeps you in a world of musical ecstasy.
The exquisite timeless beauty of his voice can stun you into silence. How can we possibly put into words the way in which he makes us feel when he sings? There is something about his voice that opens our hearts and transports us to another place.
David’s effortless vocal talent captures the mood for love in perfect style with feeling, and incredible passion. He cast a spell on his audiences with his beautiful voice and his graciousness.
His performance on July 17, 2008 in Salt Lake City, Utah will be the most memorable performance for all time. Screaming emotions poured out like a stream from his hometown crowd in overwhelming love and admiration.
Watching David wipe the tears from his eyes before he could finish his song was such a wonderful beautiful moment for David and his fans. I still cry every time I watch it.
Then, so quickly it was over! You stood there looking at the person next to you in awe and asked what just happened. Did we just experience the most amazing performance ever? Yes we did!
David carefully caressed and swept us away on an Angel’s flight and brought us gently back in his pocket. Singing is telling a story, and David’s story is all about Love.
Rosanne Simunovic’s Recollections
When I first heard David’s performance of “When You Say You Love Me”, my first impression was this: “If ever there was a perfect vehicle for this song, it is through David’s passionate and heartfelt vocal delivery”.
For, with David, this was more than just a beautiful song. It was a personal and loving message to his fans, his family members, friends and, of course, to the Lord above for giving him a musical gift that would continue to move and inspire listeners of all ages.
Although originally recorded by the talented Josh Groban, David’s version is more personal, more meaningful and, certainly very genuine and transparently expressive. We gain a glimpse into David’s loving soul – the depth and beauty of its essence.
I was fortunate to hear a live performance of this song at the Toronto stop during the American Idol Season Seven Tour. I would be lying if I didn’t admit that I was waiting all night to hear this beautiful song live and in color. Would it be as good? Would I be as moved after hearing it endless number of times via YouTube?
The answer: You betcha! It was all that and more. To see his face and hear the words and melody pour from his mouth was an experience I will never, ever forget. He had the audience in the palm of his hand – but in a way that was meaningful and authentic.
He was delivering a message in the best way he knew how – through his expressive vocal ability and unassuming yet powerful charisma.
I devoted three separate blog topics about his Toronto performance. Here are some of my thoughts after this live experience:
“When You Say You Love Me” and “Angels” signified the undying affection he has for his family –first and foremost – followed by his friends and fans. And, we cannot forget his phenomenal musical influences – his parents, Jeff and Lupe, as well as his voice coach Dean and music arranger, Richard.
All four songs were absolutely phenomenal. His heart is truly centered and in the right place when he performs. Just listening to his voice is a powerful testament to what stellar work ethics and sublime talent can achieve.
One vocal cord and, yet, the clarity and purity of his voice could be heard above and beyond the screaming. The articulation of his diction was crystal clear and well-defined and, yet, so expressive and heartfelt.”
I then added:
“And when he completed his truly inspiring performance of “When You Say You Love Me”, my two daughters wiped tears from their eyes, as did I! That was the best thank you I have ever received! How about you? Does it get more endearing than this? Un.Be.Lie.Va.Ble!
What a gift this young man has – what a prodigious and phenomenal talent. I will support this young man to the end of my days. Talent like this is very rare in one’s lifetime and should be endlessly celebrated and championed.”
My words held meaning then and are more significant and steadfast to this day. His talent is just too special to ignore and, with time, will be embraced at an international level.

I think you’re right Kaycee. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone else do this quite the way David does. I try to practice his ‘live in the moment’ attitude. When it works, it feels really good.

I marvel at how he can hold it together through it all … a testament to his inner strength and faith.
Listening to the snippets, I love how he elevates each song with his own style and makes me totally forget the original version. Just can’t wait to hear all the songs!

I don’t even know what to say…these snippets are incredible. True Colors with a bit of soul, Don’t Give Up, sounds like it has a country slant. Somewhere Only We Know, have been playing it nonstop. And that voice, pure, pure heaven. I think this album is really going to show his brillance.

Yes, what is it about his pronunciation that draws me to him? How does he instinctively know the best way to pronounce a word or a sound to get the desired effect? He’s been doing this to us since AI and I’d love to know more about it….The way he says the word “me” in the first line of the SOWK snippet. and the way he stretches out the word BEGIN in that same snippet. The way he pronounces the letter “L” in many songs has always fascinated me, too. I could go on and on… LOL

I have said before that the song by Keane is, to me, a kind of love letter to his fans – kind of a summary of where he has traveled with his “on again”, “off again” relationship to the business of music labels. And how that whole thing can make him ‘tired’ and want ‘someplace to begin’. Someplace where he has the room and space to explore and create. Well… DA doesn’t do labels very well in his life… no news there. And his relationship to that “simple thing” is the gold we mine when we let him drill into our hearts and excavate our deepest longings, bringing them into the light – where they shine along side his so summery smile. He is not surprised. He believes we know that place as well as he does. We just have forgotten how to sing our way there.

Emmegirl, my headsets are stuck to my head. My heart just pounds everytime I hear that amazing voice. Beyond his years indeed. I remember an uncle of David’s commenting right after AI that we hadn’t heard nothing yet when it came to what David is capable of. I think we may be getting glimpses. Sky and Mt, wow trending was rough yesterday. People were at it for at least 6 hours, crazy. But we learned the error of our ways. No periods or full caps or any other punctuation. Once we removed them Begin David Archuleta it started trending by state and country’s until he finally made WWTT!!!! This morning he was still trending in Salt Lake, home support has been great!
SB, the level of fan support David has been receiving has been incredible and it’s being noticed. David Archuleta is relevant and his fans will continue to remind the media of this until his epic return.

It is not so much that he is offering his own arms (though I’ll bet he would if he felt they were needed), but that he is whispering of those times he may have needed a comforting pair of arms, and the spiritual strength and warmth that he has himself, been granted from time to time. He is suggesting, inviting, and confirming that such arms do exist.

Today at noon I went to the airline and out of there, I said, gladys not cry, do not cry, do not cry, but I was so happy, I sat in a bar and asked for a coffee and yes, a tear rolled down my face.
Recently my niece reserve the hotel and transport, (internet is a blessing). I’m writing and still I can not believe everything I did before.
When I received the information, my first words were “I’m going to Chile” was a natural and I’m here now, with everything planned.
I will travel by plane for the first time in my life.

I am so excited when my email comes that says there is a new one up, and I never miss even one comment here. Life has been crazy the past month. Daughter and family moving into a larger home and now are living with us for a few weeks while redecorating the new one. So not much alone time to be on the computer. Spending lots of time coloring (a ton), playing with the playhouse, playing ponies, wading in the creek in the backyard…I feel like a kid again sometimes. Up in Park City for a week and am having fun catching up on things while alone for an hour here. Just bookmarked the snippets from SoundCloud on my iPhone and they are playing on repeat over and over and over. This album is going to be epic!!!! I can hardly wait. I will be in Vail, Colorado on August 7th, so thank goodness I saw on Facebook today that it will be available on iTunes according to Shadow Mountain Records, since I won’t be back home till the 11th to get my ordered CD’s and there probably is nowhere in Vail that it will be available. There is no way I could wait till the 11th to hear it. I would have to drive to Denver if it weren’t available on iTunes.
Well, off to the Oakley, Utah rodeo with hubby, and two of my kids, well kids to me.

I’m slightly nervous with the idea of ‘crossing the border’. I have NO idea what to expect, how it’s done, what I should do. I’m hoping they find me legal. 😉

Oh, BEGIN is my favorite word to use at home now, haha. I think David has chosen the perfect title to communicate what this album means.
