Camp ASCCA, Alabama’s Special Camp for Children and Adults, became a part of my life after accepting a job there as Camp Secretary. I knew the moment that I arrived on my first day at work that Camp ASCCA would give me more than simply an income. Every day was a testimony of the human spirit, of overcoming obstacles, and the joy of being who you are. I saw firsthand what camp means to the campers and their families. When a family move took me away from the area, I took Camp ASCCA with me in my heart.
The Singer and the Song Project was born from a simple hope to bring together two groups of people who I love and who I knew would love each other: my Archie family and the campers and staff of Camp ASCCA. It is just an idea…and the person who has the idea is not the person important to the success of a project. The people who are vital to its success are the ones who are willing to take the idea and give of themselves to make it happen.
Thank you so much for having giving hearts.Β β₯ Please know that every donation, no matter how big or how small, has an impact on the lives of these campers. The music has started. What you are about to see and hear…will be beautiful.
β¦ Video by Paula β¦
All of the donations go through Camp ASCCAβs website to their PayPal account and go directly to camp, therefore, donations are tax deductible. All of the steps listed below are the normal steps to make any contribution through the campβs website. The only addition is tagging the donation, but a lot of people tag donations anyway if making a donation in memory of someone or in honor of someone. Itβs really fairly simple to see what to do once youβre on the website. Donors will receive an email confirmation/receipt of their donation.
I also have an email address for any questions regarding the project:
The recipient of the painting will be chosen at random from the donations tagged βIn honor of the singerβ and will get one chance to win for every $5 donated. The painting is a 16 x 20 oil on canvas.
The instructions are also in the YouTube info for the video too, so Iβm hoping that helps.
Paula, I can’t tell you how beautiful both the painting and the video are. You are incredibly talented. This is such a wonderful project, such a worthwhile cause, and doing this for them shows what a beautiful heart you have.
Like Marlie, I think I will post this on my facebook so I can share both your message and David’s beautiful song that accompanies it.
Paula
i have seen many artist’s drawings and paintings of David over the years. Yours is the most dramatic and beautiful painting I have seen. I hope everyone will send a donation, you might just win π
This article has been making the rounds on other fansites, and it is worth reading as it seems to verify what we all assume to be true: that musicians gross less but net more without a major label.
However, even more worth reading is an article linked to it in which the author promotes this business model for musicians to turn a profit given rampant free-file sharing of music, etc.
Connect with Fans (CwF) + Reason to Buy (RtB) = The Business Model
Very interesting reading, especially given how well David already connects with his fans and his fans connect with each other. Here’s the link to the second article.
Fenfan, haha That series of expressions is still making me giggle.
Q – Quit
I need to QUIT looking at those pics!! (but probably not gonna)
Oh, and I am so proud of myself! I figured out how to post Paula’s beautiful video on my FB page. π I’m learningnew stuff all the time thanks to David and you guys.
Paula,
One more thing I wanted to say about that video is … I love what you put about a singer bowing his head and becoming one with the song. β₯ That is beautiful.
R – Remarkable how you captured that moment so beautifully in your painting.
MT.you are light years ahead of me learning new stuff. Can we grade on a curve?? :))
Paula, the painting really is breathtaking you knowβ₯ You have an amazing talent, and a beautiful spirit. The video is wonderful, and Davids song touches the heart. What a great Project and a wonderful causeβ₯
Abrra, thanks for bring the eye treats over here:)) I didn’t get to droo./.I mean study them long enough, I shall go about that task now.
Thank you for Facebook posts, retweets, everything you’re doing for these amazing campers! The majority of campers require financial assistance. You guys are awesome!
Sky, LOL at “learning curve” haha You get an A+ in my book. π
And you go right ahead study those gifs and pics young lady. But a warning … I don’t know if you could actually study them “long enough” cuz it’s hard to look away once you start. π
You have such a kind heart to orchestrate a project like this. The painting of David is magnificent and Camp ASCCA sounds like an amazing place! I just knew when I met you at the gathering after Westbury that you were someone special.
Paula, what a beautiful painting and project. It’s so great to see these very special people having needs met. Thank you for introducing them to us. β₯
Love this project and your genuine love for these campers. The painting is just exquisite. You have captured the mood and his stance so well. Beautiful work of art and what beautiful works it will accomplish if this raffle is as successful as I hope it will be! You can count me in for a handful of those tickets. Not to be greedy, (I have my pillow, after all) but, I DO want the pleasure and blessings that will come from being a part of this.
The two times I have met you, in Memphis and in Westbury, I’ve been so impressed with your warmth and sweet spirit. You are such a special, gifted, generous lady. I remember another project you had run with, fueled by nothing but pure desire and faith and somehow your miracle occurred and the meeting with David took place.
That was in Memphis, where we first met at the Delta Fest, me and Biz and you and your sweet husband with the ginormous camera. haha. Good times! and then Westbury and the MKOC tour which was the inspiration for this painting.
It amazes me, how much my life has been enriched by being a fan of David. Why God? All the lovely people and places and causes to enjoy and embrace. Things I never would have done or known. Things I’ve learned and ways I’ve grown. I am grateful for a chance to give back a little of what I have received, just for the love of David.
Paula that is an incredibly beautiful painting. You captured something I can’t put my finger on. It’s like I can feel David’s essence or spirit. You have a gift. The video is is so heartwarming and a wonderful project.
David Archuleta BEGIN trended world wide and in the US too!!!
I would like you to meet an Argentine singer, his name is Abel Pintos. A long time ago that travels the country with his songs. He sings in places where requested: festivals, celebrations of the country, small theaters or places like the video, outdoors. (Remember them anyone?) His lyrics are very beautiful and is a good person, his heart is the same as David.
Abel showed me how to listen, but David showed me how to feel.
I enjoyed hearing Abel Pintos sing. Can you give a description of the song? What is the story that he tells us? I tried the lyrics in translate, but it was not helpful.
Missed you in chat last night π¦
Last night in chat Dayzee dropped a BOMB π I will let her tell what she did for excitement. π Dayzee please tell us the details of your adventure?
Abrra 663 days
morning Gladys, Abrra, and allβ₯. I just wrote a comment but it disappeared, to that oh so mysterious place where comments go…..aaaak!
Gladys, like Abrra, I enjoyed the video.Abel sings with intensity and although I didn’t know what he was saying, I loved the way he was saying it! I enjoyed watching his use of his hands.
“Abel showed me how to listen, but David showed me how to feel.”
aww Gladysβ₯beautiful
I can only imagine how Argentinians will respond to David performing there in concert one day!! They will fall in love.
we so missed you in chat!:(
Abrra, Dayzee sure did !
we must have details,yes.!!!
( I am still in awe,woman..)
Haha.. A bomb? Hardly. I did go skydiving yesterday. I thought it was great to take my David bracelet for a jump, thinking it is possible that David may one day jump from that same plane. We go up 13,500 feet over the southern tip of the Great Salt Lake. It is so beautiful. So still. The lake is so blue and surrounded by crystal white fields of salt. There are mountains to the east and west. Farmer’s fields and some small towns below. Everywhere you look is breathtaking. This was my third trip. My son and his son went for their fourth time and my granddaughter took her first jump. She was so cute and excited it made it extra fun for everyone.
We always make a day of it, stopping for lunch and then travel over a mountain with hairpin turns on skinny (sometimes dirt) roads. The thought of meeting a vehicle coming towards you is scarier than the plane ride.
Dayzee, ok, it was a ‘surprise” then.haha! (don’t know why, it just was).I think it is fabulous!! I am sure it is amazing.
Have to admit, I have dreamed of doing it,, watched videos of, and come close to, but never have. I have 2 old friends from HS that have.Married sweethearts . She loved it, and it and it scared the you know what out of him! haha never again! he said.
I am keeping it on my bucket listβ₯who knows?. The only fear I have is the landing, (as his was oops, in a tree!)
all of this said…if David would jump with me, I would go in a NY minute!! haha. (ok, I am going to think about that for awhile nowβ₯……)
and oh David…” can you singgggg to me on the way down?”
Dayzee, you daredevil! I missed your amazing story last night. Serves me right for doing a brb. I admire your sense of adventure, but mostly I admire your courage.
Gladys was in chat last night! Those on the early shift must have missed her! Some
of us umm..stay for both shifts. LOL We never tire of watching American Idol Season 7 videos. In fact we crave them. Abs, thanks for knowing just what we need to watch on Saturday nights in The Voice Unplugged!
Gladys, Thank you for the video you posted. Need translation, please!! TY
Dayzee, you are my hero! I’ve always thought it would be an adventure to do that, but I have developed such a fear of heights as I’ve gotten older that it’s not going to happen. So glad you had a fun day with your family. Who knows, David might just take that very same plane when he has his first jump. All you have to do is find out when that is and be on that plane again. LOL
Dayzee, glad that you got to jump again and with the family and David’s bracelet!β₯ It’s been officiallly dedicated now! You are a daredevil girl, that is something that will never be on my bucket list! lol I love to fly, but I don’t want to jump from a plane! In Dec, I loved seeing your picture with your grandson showing you in your skydiver’s outfit. If I jumped, I’d have to have a picture to prove that I done it! It is something to be very proud of. Sorry, I missed you last night on chat. I came in late.
I did get to chat with Gladys tho. She still keeping her promise to David and staying on her side of the mountain! haha I got off at 1:42am and there was still about 5 still there.
Want to appaud Paulafod for such a great picture. I would love to have that one to add to my collection!
Dayzee and Jans…you are two of the most amazing women and I am pleased that I have had the pleasure of meeting both of you.
Dayzee, I couldn’t believe what I was reading! I took my David bracelet…the black one today…with me on a visit to the shore to see the pounding surf but absolutely no was bravery needed!
It is exciting just to read about jumping from a plane! Right now the plane I fly on is grounded for a couple of years.
Xaris, Sorry for the late reply to your question. Oil painting is fairly new to me. I have exhibited a few pieces of pencil work and painting in a small local gallery and I have taken commisions on pencil portraits. I just love the whole process of art of any kind. I think we all have a need to be creative in some capacity. My husband would probably prefer that I love to be creative in cooking…because I would much rather be upstairs working on a project than in the kitchen!! But, he is very patient with me, LOL.
There are so many giving hearts in the Archie family. What a blessing it’s been to be among such caring people. Angelica, thank you for your kind comments…I felt the same when I met you!
Thanks for the pics, Abraa! Beautiful!
Gladys, I enjoyed hearing Abel!
Dayzee…I would like to skydive, but I don’t what I’d do if I got up there and changed my mind!! I guess you prepare yourself the best you can, close your eyes, and jump with all your heart, like I did with this project!
I will get an update from Camp ASCCA this week and will let you guys know how things are coming along. Thank you to all of you who have supported the campers financially and who are helping to spread the word. Hugs to you all,
Paula, the portrait is so lovely. I see the essence of David there. Thank you for making the instructions for donating so explicit that even an idiot like myself could follow them.
Exciting to see the month of May disappear from the sidebar. My paper chain is about 5 feet shorter than it was at the beginning. I can’t help thinking how nice it will be when there are only 5 feet left, but must not go there. It just looks too far away.
T–Thanks. My heart is full of thanks for all who keep the candle burning.
Dayzee!! I get dizzy wearing high heels.8O I can’t even imagine sky-diving!! *shaking in my boots*
I give you all the credit you deserve for your bravery. π I would come and watch and cheer you on sometime. I’m really good at giving Standing O’s (had some practice in the last 4 years).
You’re right, the scenery in Utah is beautiful (except between Price and Green River — no man’s land out there).
Angelica, congrats on getting the pillow!! We need photos when you get it located in it’s new home. 8)
May is gone!! Am I wishing my life away by being glad that another month is gone? Oh well.
Djafan! thanks for posting Eva’s rendition, its so beautiful, isn’t it?Funny but I was just this morning reading chapter 9 of COS, where David talks of her influence on his music .how special she was and how he wanted to learn to sing like she did.and he was eleven at the time!
I think Chapter 9 is one of my favorite chapters in the bookβ₯
paulafod, am in awe of your talent – the painting is an amazing depiction. Great cause, thank you so much for bringing it here and giving us this opportunity.
Dayzee, wheeeeeee – you got guts girl. Maybe someday you care share your experience with D.
dja, love Eva, have several of her songs. This one I listen to alot, is my anthem for his return.
so people get ready
for the train a-comin’
you don’t need no baggage
you just get on board
all you need is faith
to hear the diesels humming
don’t need no ticket
you just thank
you just thank the Lord
Girls have asked for help with translation to the singer in person, the translation is very difficult, because he uses many metaphors, when he sings. I have the lyric in Spanish, I’ll post. thanks for listening to abel. I have more videos of him when you want the upload.
Thanks for bringing the video here as I requested of Abel that you posted on unplugged last night. Oh to hear David singing in Spanish with no instruments except his voice and evocative hands. Just him on a stage like that alone and so emotionally vulnerable. Chills..
Dayzee, you little dare devil you! I have no fear of flying but the only way I will jump out of a plane is if it’s standing on the runway.
#37 SB, that is one big compliment!β₯ Thanks so much! It was a great pleasure to meet you too. Loved your stories! At the ” this is not a David Archuleta concert”! I’ll never forget that!β₯ My 2 bracelets are going on a road trip to TX…..no bravery there either! haha
#45 Good anthem…perfect words. Yes, Dayzee, you need to write to David and tell him of your experience. He’ll love it, Hey, maybe he’ll look you up when he gets back! You’re both from the same neck (no pun intended) of the words!
And now a video shout out for back up musicians ftw! I was having lunch at Sonny’s Real Pit Bar B Q yesterday (a chain I highly recommend) when this started playing. Never heard it but I could not sit still in my seat the whole time it was playing. Got out my ipod and wrote down, “you took my joy” and googled it back to YouTube. As much as I love his acoustic performances, I hope David has a band this good some day to back him up. Dayum. And sing some soulful blues!
“Maybe in Slidell I’ll find my joy…” I will find my joy if you come to Slidell, LA.
Me and Biz and MT would make a road trip. Right MT?
Gladys
Thanks for the Spanish lyrics. Can you tell us the story of the song? What is he singing about? The translation is very jumbled.
I was watching a video of David arriving for a concert carrying his clothes for the show. No entourage with him, only Kari. It looks like he grabbed the hangers from the hook as he left the bus π
Abrra 662 days
Angelica,
You betcha!! I would find my joy too if he comes to Slidell. It’s less than a half hour from me. We could definitely meet up! (haha I need one of those little praying smiles too.)
Dayzee, You have my admiration for the courage to jump out of a plane. I get sick jumping off a chair. lol Not good with heights.
The pic at #51 is just so Davidey. Big welcoming smile while doing all the work. Abrra, appreciate you finding and sharing treasures.
Jan you have so bright-tened my day. I had never thought of myself as being from David’s “neck” of the woods. That thought will bring me smiles forevermore.
49.. Jans, you’re heading to my neck o the woods!
Dayzee, that was a great idea Jan had about telling David of your experience!
51.Abrra, what a beautiful picture…ahh! The man certainly stands out in a crowd doesn’t he?all smiley,and handsome. :)))
hes just so humble, and normal, and such a sweetie pie….~sigh~β₯
54. Bebe, so exciting, and I love that picture Kari tweeted!
MT,”Always love getting news of new music or videos ,and Always love new pics! I just never get tired of that voice or that face.”
never MTβ₯ can’t get enough!
So what can the new single be!??eeeeek! oh David!
56.Ray
“why you try to keeel me” hahaha!!!
So much news coming from so many directions today so I will add to the mix…
A special thank you to Tawna, Abrra, Steno and Fandaforeverti’48.
I received their requests for a David bracelet first but the unfortunate thing is that Tawna’s took forever to get to her, Abrra’s was the wrong envelope and Fandaforeverti48’s was never delivered to her. Well all of that has been corrected!
Steno assisted with the delivery for Kari, Jasmine and Eula! Thank you Steno, that is rather special!
Heidijoy had a ‘helping crew’ as well!! My sincere thanks to you Heidijoy, it has been fun!
All the best Janns for a fun road trip to Texas! So energizing to travel or ‘skydive’!
Love Love Love the picture! I found this on twitter today and saved it to my phone. S
ohnopurple
Wishing a speedy recovery for @missbianca . She has been trying to get surgery done and they keep finding reasons not to have it right now. I hope she can get past it soon.
A new single? Hmmm My vote is for Tell Me or Hold On. Not a bad song on the CD, as usual, with David. I am sure it will do well in the Phils where it will get radio play.
David has 1,092,481 twitter followers. That’s 92,000 gained since May 9,2012. He definitely has enough buzz going on to maintain songs on the charts and gain new followers. We will do everything we can to support him and keep his name out there, right?
SB
Did you want me to send the bracelet I have to Vee? Or has that been take care of? It’s a small.
This is one of my favorite images from that session β A light moment between Kari and David. Now in case you’re wondering what was going on in the other side of the roomβ¦
Nothing beats sitting in during a studio recording session β As David prepared to record Forevermore, the title track of the album, I told myself, This is much better than a front row seat!
What I will probably remember most from that afternoon was how David kept the energy in the studio light and fun for everyone attending the recording session. And yes, he’s easily prone to the occasional giggle. Lol!
No matter where he is, you can count on David to immediately locate the nearest keyboard for a quick jam session. Hahaha!
This one’s dedicated to all of David’s loving fans β I know you guys are missing him very much and continue to wish him all the best for his mission.
You are welcome Sandybeaches!! Thanks for allowing me to spread the joy and links to the Fan community. Will send you an updated list asap. Have a few new orders today and waiting for large!! Bless Your Heart. Enjoying the new photo and Behind the Scenes photos from Balloon!! These treats all help!!
63.Xaris,”There is something attached to his plaid shirt. Is it a hood, or just his super-hero cape? ”
LOL! I was staring at it myself! (I guess its a hoodie-shirt?), but I am gonna go with the super hero cape :)) β₯
Sandybeaches, I got my bracelet in the mail today, and it fits my wrist perfectly!! thank you so much:)
Love the BTS photos, and the comments each pic. David makes such an impression on every photographer who has ever worked with him doesn’t he?β₯Thanks for the find Betsy…and thanks for posting them Abrra
Dja, that pic blown up…gah! His pupils ARE large in that pic! (but I can still see a gorgeous green thereβ₯
I’ve always thought that the pic of David in the car could be a real car ad. He could totally sell cars with that one pic in any magazine, barely any car showing. Or sell anything. It’s that good. π
I love this video of a 4 yr old singing along with David at the Apple Family Day 2 years ago. I hope he gets many more chances to see David in concert. David has a ton of very young fans that will grow up listening to his music. Makes me smile π
michele85826
This was filmed while David Archuleta performed live. Nathan is 4 years old and a big American Idol fan as you can tell from his lip syncing.
I will take a stab at google translating Abel’s words, though I know much is lost. Enough remains to realize he is a poet, as well as a singer.
In your old arm the yesterday remained,
cinders of the churlish soul that went away
the time in your alone hands,
I remain stretched on the light
blood dries off the morning
weeping for centuries to the voice of the sun
the Inca scream shook the pain
silence rests for your body goes
the stones to the wind steal the salt from him
the crickets (shoots) sleep the evening
naked gold of the hill behind (back)
end a mouth of your night
the dark steel of your black skin
to fall asleep between the solitude
weeping for the heat of the crying of the Indian
in its feverish spring wetting the antigal
rain that comes from god
ancient (former) weariness and slow its gait
it takes a spear as the teasel
and in its thorns I leave the hands
for the blood with another pain
and to the crazy beam it gave its heart
the destination of your name was a final
and the that moon already does not light any more
to females it closed its belly
and by the forehead I am drained
I leave its traces it was doing to the north
I look for way there to die
and as mother wept also for its evil
if it patrols for inside the owner cideral
and it walks on your veins, and since it went away
and him(her, you) vanta your black eyes
to cover dead dead and loyal
I fix its breast in the rock
like a wound, and without shouting its voice
she (it) in the sky done a curse
weeping for the heat of the crying of the Indian
in its feverish spring wetting the antigal
rain that comes from god
ancient (former) weariness and slow its gait
it takes a spear as the teasel
and in its thorns I leave the hands
for the blood with another pain
and to the crazy beam it gave its heart
I love words for themselves and the feelings they invoke. I don’t necessarily need to understand them.
Oh a David tweet!!!!!! I love it! The transition is happening!!!
MT, the funny mouth feeling and brain tingle means the spanish is invading his thoughts lol David will be able to think in Spanish real soon with this type of immersion. My tongue and brain do this when speaking in one or the other for a period of time and then switch back. Great brain gymnastics. I can’t wait to hear him!
Dja, I don’t speak a second language so I didn’t realize, but it makes perfect sense. So it’s actually a sign that his mind in making the transition to Spanish as his primary language. That’s really very interesting to know. Thanks for explaining it.
Who knew this was an educational site? LOL I am learning all sorts of new things. π
I looked up what David is experiencing with language.
The Bilingual Brain Is Sharper and More Focused, Study Says
By Robert Lee Hotz
The ability to speak two languages can make bilingual people better able to pay attention than those who can only speak one language, a new study suggests.
Scientists have long suspected that some enhanced mental abilities might be tied to structural differences in brain networks shaped by learning more than one language, just as a musicianβs brain can be altered by the long hours of practice needed to master an instrument.
Now, in a study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers at Northwestern University for the first time have documented differences in how the bilingual brain processes the sounds of speech, compared with those who speak a single language, in ways that make it better at picking out a spoken syllable, even when it is buried in a babble of voices.
That biological difference in the auditory nervous system appears to also enhance attention and working memory among those who speak more than one language, they say.
βBecause you have two languages going on in your head, you become very good at determining what is and is not relevant,β says Dr. Nina Kraus, a professor of neurobiology and physiology at Northwestern, who was part of the study team. βYou are a mental juggler.β
In the new study, Kraus and her colleagues tested the involuntary neural responses to speech sounds by comparing brain signals in 23 high school students who were fluent in English and Spanish to those of 25 teenagers who only spoke English. When it was quiet, both groups could hear the test syllable β βdaβ β with no trouble, but when there was background noise, the brains of the bilingual students were significantly better at detecting the fundamental frequency of speech sounds.
βWe have determined that the nervous system of a bilingual person responds to sound in a way that is distinctive from a person who speaks only one language,β Kraus says.
Through this fine-tuning of the nervous system, people who can master more than one language are building a more resilient brain, one more proficient at multitasking, setting priorities, and, perhaps, better able to withstand the ravages of age, a range of recent studies suggest.
Indeed, some preliminary research suggests that people who speak a second language may have enhanced defenses against the onset of dementia and delay Alzheimerβs disease by an average of four years, as WSJ reported in 2010.
The ability to speak more than one language also may help protect memory, researchers from the Center for Health Studies in Luxembourg reported at last year.
After studying older people who spoke multiple languages, they concluded that the more languages someone could speak, the better: People who spoke three languages were three times less likely to have cognitive problems compared to bilingual people. Those who spoke four or more languages were five times less likely to develop cognitive problems.
Not so long ago, people worried that children who grew up learning two languages at once were at a developmental disadvantage compared with those who focused on only one.
New research suggests that even babies have little trouble developing bilingual skills.
Researchers at the University of British Columbiaβs Infant Studies Centre reported that babies being raised in a bilingual family show from birth a preference for each of the native languages they heard while still in the womb and can readily distinguish between them.
Moreover, bilingual infants appear to learn the grammars of their two languages as well as babies learning a single language, even when the two languages are as different from one another as English and Japanese, or English and Punjabi.
Guys, I just heard from Camp ASCCA. As of today, we have contributed $490.00 to help the campers. They have combined info from the FOD article and The Voice article and placed info on the camp website. http://www.campascca.org. (In the news section that scrolls across the screen) New people are being introduced to David and to us as his fans. They have also posted a link to the camp article about The Singer and the Song Project on their Facebook account. They are so grateful for every donation. Thank you SO MUCH to those who have generously donated. You can be a part of this project for even a $5 donation. Hugs to you all!
88.MT, I’m with you! getting educated here for sure,(and I like studying the um,illustrations posted here too)
Abrra, thanks for that informative article.really interesting. I had never heard any of the many benefits of being fluent in 2 3 or 4 languages. really fascinating!
I can’t wait to hear him either Dja! “The transition is happening”
Exciting stuff!
oh David! how amazing will you even be, in 2 years? eeeeeek!
Abrra,
Thanks for posting the info. I knew there was a reason I wanted to learn Spanish. It might make me smarter. Well, Ok, it would be David related too, so I could understand when he sings ins Spanish. But if making me more .. Intelligent .. is a side effect, hey even better!
Thanks for the update! Great to hear the total is now nearly $500. We have a long way to go before the 22nd of this month, so please everyone make a donation for this worthy cause. You will be blessed and so will those who receive your gift. It only takes $5 to be an angel to these dear ones. And each $5 gets you a ticket to the raffle for the glorious painting!
Abrra,
Thank you muchly for the article on bilingualism. I have always wanted to learn another language and if not now, when? Would it be nice to have your mouth feel funny and your brain tingle with new knowledge? Can’t wait to hear him get all chill and Chilean on us when he gets back. ack ack!
hmmm…why is my comment in Times New Roman in my post #82? It happened at work.
Paula,
You done good!
Hope the camp gets lots more by the e 22nd!!
Love David’s tweet!
Dja’s right; the transition is starting.
Curious to hear his accent as of right now. Heck, I just want to hear his voice, live!
SkyDancer,
Hondurian Hunk FTW!
Angelica, I noticed your switch to Times New Roman 5pt. I was like huh? LOL
Watching “The Concert for the Queen /Diamond Jubilee” on ABC, with Elton John, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, etc. Oh how The Queen of England would love our David!
The three pictures in the middle: DA says: “Please ask me to sing so I will know what to do with my hands!”
(Dear DA: God gave you the gift of music so that you could funnel “shine” to those around you. Do such extraordinary amounts of ‘shine’ ever get a bit heavy to carry around? Did he overdo it a bit on the wattage? Were you plugged-in a bit longer than most, to that great battery-charger in the sky? No, I don’t think so. I think you just reflect the light you see. The light and the love. Thanks for sharing the view with the rest of us.)
Bluesky, You amaze me and warm my soul with your beautiful words.
Google alerts sent this my way. It’s from a former missionary. Lots of beautiful pictures and Chile culture. This is the link to his first entry. Make sure to read all the way π

Returning to Chile
That’s right–I’m actually starting a blog. I am headed down to Chile on el 2 de mayo, and I want to create a platform on which I can share my experiences.
I like what you said about David just reflecting the light he sees. I think there’s more to it than that. Sometimes he is a mirror, and sometimes he is a window. But it got me to thinking of how many of us don’t see the light in others because we don’t look for it.
Oh well. Thanks djafan for that link. Very interesting insight into what Chile is like from a returned missionary, now businessman. Anyone who likes David and quotes from COS is OK in my book. Seems like a great guy.
Abrra #100,
Nice pics but how is that guy in pic 1 and 4 related to that last pic? Is that his brother from another mother?
101 Angelica (and to the blog that mentions DA): Amen!
I wrote a tiny bit when I was about 22. It was about the kitchen table and the articles on it: spoon, saucer, glass, salt and pepper shakers, etc., and how each of these reflected light from the sun in their own way, to whatever extent that they were able. And I was thinking that that was all I had to do in life, really, was to reflect whatever light was given to me in the way that I, individually, was able to do so. And how individual we are!! So, DA just reminds me of that, in so very many ways. He is just constitutionally configured to share, reflect, funnel, absorb and pass on – light.
Bless his little pea-pickin’ heart. ^_^
(So…. why was it required for him to be such a “good-looking” salt shaker?… I ain’t touchin’ that one! ^_^)

I love the entire CD, so I’m happy with any of the tracks as the next single, but my favorites (right now) are I’ll Never Go and YAMS.
Great pics in #100. I always chuckle when I see the young guys wearing the enormous watches. I’m sure David is not that small-boned, but that watch looks huge on him. My son wears such a big, ugly clunky watch I swear he could take the thing off and beat a mugger with it.
Xaris, haha! that watch does look big.so funny what you said about young guys and the clunky watches.haha
why is there something about David wearing a watch that appeals to me?He looks so good wearing oneβ₯ I guess anything he ‘wears’ appeals to me.
Bebeeeeeeeeeee!!!! rofl! I thought I said >Hondurian< haha thought I was correcting MYSELF, not you! hahaha.

Bluesky#97 Always a pleasure to read your comments. I hadn’t noticed his hands in those pics but I see them now. I proclaim that those hands need a mic. π
Dja#99, Thanks for the link from the returned missionary. I appreciate that he included many pics of Chile so that anyone reading can see what it’s like there. That he quoted David from COS was icing on the cake! π
Abs#100, Good find! The fourth one, with the twinkle in his eyes went right to my desktop!

Angelica,
113. “Bench, no more, please!” << What are you saying????
Dear Bench,
Please disregard the above coment. She was temporarily not in her right mind due to gorgeousness overload. She will recover. Please keep giving us those pics, as many and as often as you like. π
Angelica, “many of us donβt see the light in others because we donβt look for it”– my new daily motto–thank you, I seriously needed that right now. β₯
It goes back to all that we have found because we found David on AI7—- friendships that, at times, create cyber-thoughts that are just what is needed.
These photos just keep getting more and more intense. Bench must have a bank vault full of them the way they just keep releasing ‘new & improved’. π
Betsy–# 67–Thanks for the shout out–I miss all you guys too!!–Not really, cause I get to see what you are up to every day π Your articles and posts and drop dead pictures are all life savers. I’ve not gone anywhere–I’m just hiding in the woodwork–so Abs can’t shut the door on me for lurking π
After battling the “Black Plague” -I have about as much ‘get up and go’ as a sloth wearing combat boots! So I’m behinder in a lot of things. Besides I haven’t been out trolling the neighborhood for interesting tidbits–
aaaand David hasn’t called or written to me –but then I haven’t called or written to him either—he’s probably mad at me. π
The only thing I’ve seen that just screams David is this verse, which was on one of my G’daughters graduation cards. I swear either David wrote it or it was written about him.
Somewhere deep within you
Is a song that plays softly
A song of life
And dreams
And wisdom
A call to adventure
That’s uniquely yours
Take time to listen
To the song
Of your soul
And see where it leads you.
Plus, no matter what your circumstance David always has a song to lift your spirits and I’ve been listening to this one a lot lately.
And in conclusion –may I quote Sky from chat a while back ” David!!You get your rear end back here–and I mean RIGHT NOW!!
{{{dakβ₯}}}!! :))) so good to see your little roadrunner appear!
I hope the worst of the “black Plague” is ovaah! A sloth with boots on huh?haha so happy to see your humor is still intact. Bless your heart, hope you keep feeling better everyday.we have missed you!
Thanks for posting TAGGB.haven’t listened to that one in awhile.
your grandaughter’s graduation card… lovely! Really does scream David! Isn’t it strange how everything does? I was in the grocery store awhile ago and “Man in the Mirror” was playing.Thought immediately not of MJ singing it, but of David singing it at MKOC VIP!
Davidβ₯
Never know when he is gonna pop in,he’s like a tap on the shoulder sometimes, saying, “have you thought of me today?”
oh yeah…just a little.HA!
Hey there! Glad you’re feeling better, if a “sloth wearing combat boots” can be said to be better. On posting YT videos…I don’t bother with the Share feature below the vid, just copy the url at the top of the page and paste here. ‘voila!
Tawna,
You’re welcome. Isn’t it strange how that happens sometimes? I have felt it too from the comments others have posted here. You can never tell how some random thought might be just what someone was needing to hear. β₯ back atcha.
M More Bench pecs…uh, pics please. MT, I will gladly sign that letter.
Man oh Man! The pic in #108 is larger than life and I can hardly bbrreeeaaathe!!!
{{{{{{Dak}}}}},
So good to see you! You have been missed, Missy! Not only here but in TVU on Saturdays! That verse was lovely and really sounds like it was written for David. And TAGGB is always an uplifting experience. Thank you!
And whom do we have here? Eula Caballero! I want the shirt she’s wearing! π
I could start with a few….gorgeous, breathtaking, “fetching” (to quote someone here but I forgot who), adorable, ay ay ay ay, handsome, mucho guapo, stunning…
thank you Angelica.I shall take it upon myself to conduct an intense study this afternoon of the gulp, bigger picture.Perhaps all afternoon…after I get up off the floor.
Okay, so the video in 127—- I have never noticed, but at about 2:33 David leaves of singing lyrics and commences with a wail that stopped my heart— Dang it, he’s good. Yup he is!!
Sky, let me help you with that intense study. No one should have to go there alone.
Tawna, that wail is truly heart-stopping. YEDL has always been a favorite. Love the whistling. I am thinking that might have something to do with the lip puckering.
The Wanted posters are so perfect. If anyone was ever wanted, it is David.
I am taking David’s bracelet for a drive. We will be gone for a week or so. Probably won’t be able to check in to the Saturday night chat. Good thing I have that bracelet, cd’s, Ipod, pics etc. to help me keep in touch with my David side.
haha After all the gorgeous pics and fabulous videos in this thread, you guys are seriously gonna leave me with the S word? Especially after posting that video in 136?
S – Sooooooo ________
(I’m gonna let you guys fill in the blank. π )
Sky, Dayzee LOL … Study group anyone?? We can discuss our findings in unplugged Saturday night. Dayzee, if you can’t make it to chat we’ll take notes for you. π Enjoy your trip!
Abs—- Me and You Tube are not on speaking terms–every video I go to watch-has the spinning circle on it and the video cuts in and out –sometimes no picture–will call you tomorrow some time when I can spend time on the computer.

This article has been making the rounds on other fansites, and it is worth reading as it seems to verify what we all assume to be true: that musicians gross less but net more without a major label.
http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20100712/23482610186.shtml
However, even more worth reading is an article linked to it in which the author promotes this business model for musicians to turn a profit given rampant free-file sharing of music, etc.
Connect with Fans (CwF) + Reason to Buy (RtB) = The Business Model
Very interesting reading, especially given how well David already connects with his fans and his fans connect with each other. Here’s the link to the second article.

Love this project and your genuine love for these campers. The painting is just exquisite. You have captured the mood and his stance so well. Beautiful work of art and what beautiful works it will accomplish if this raffle is as successful as I hope it will be! You can count me in for a handful of those tickets. Not to be greedy, (I have my pillow, after all)
but, I DO want the pleasure and blessings that will come from being a part of this.
The two times I have met you, in Memphis and in Westbury, I’ve been so impressed with your warmth and sweet spirit. You are such a special, gifted, generous lady. I remember another project you had run with, fueled by nothing but pure desire and faith and somehow your miracle occurred and the meeting with David took place.
https://thevoicedavidarchuleta.com/2010/09/30/everything-you-do-matters/
That was in Memphis, where we first met at the Delta Fest, me and Biz and you and your sweet husband with the ginormous camera. haha. Good times! and then Westbury and the MKOC tour which was the inspiration for this painting.
It amazes me, how much my life has been enriched by being a fan of David. Why God? All the lovely people and places and causes to enjoy and embrace. Things I never would have done or known. Things I’ve learned and ways I’ve grown. I am grateful for a chance to give back a little of what I have received, just for the love of David.

Haha.. A bomb?

I’ve always loved this portrait of David β A souvenir from a wonderful afternoon with a person whose incredible talent and genuine personality I admire very much.

I will take a stab at google translating Abel’s words, though I know much is lost. Enough remains to realize he is a poet, as well as a singer.
In your old arm the yesterday remained,
cinders of the churlish soul that went away
the time in your alone hands,
I remain stretched on the light
blood dries off the morning
weeping for centuries to the voice of the sun
the Inca scream shook the pain
silence rests for your body goes
the stones to the wind steal the salt from him
the crickets (shoots) sleep the evening
naked gold of the hill behind (back)
end a mouth of your night
the dark steel of your black skin
to fall asleep between the solitude
weeping for the heat of the crying of the Indian
in its feverish spring wetting the antigal
rain that comes from god
ancient (former) weariness and slow its gait
it takes a spear as the teasel
and in its thorns I leave the hands
for the blood with another pain
and to the crazy beam it gave its heart
the destination of your name was a final
and the that moon already does not light any more
to females it closed its belly
and by the forehead I am drained
I leave its traces it was doing to the north
I look for way there to die
and as mother wept also for its evil
if it patrols for inside the owner cideral
and it walks on your veins, and since it went away
and him(her, you) vanta your black eyes
to cover dead dead and loyal
I fix its breast in the rock
like a wound, and without shouting its voice
she (it) in the sky done a curse
weeping for the heat of the crying of the Indian
in its feverish spring wetting the antigal
rain that comes from god
ancient (former) weariness and slow its gait
it takes a spear as the teasel
and in its thorns I leave the hands
for the blood with another pain
and to the crazy beam it gave its heart
I love words for themselves and the feelings they invoke. I don’t necessarily need to understand them.

Dak, So good to see you! I hope you are fully recovered soon.
I love the verse from the card. That’s really beautiful. It fits him so well, it definitely could have been written by David or about him.
And that particular performance of TAGGB is my favorite. β₯ He was soooo good.
L – Listen … to the sincerity in his voice is there.

Dak,

Only one I know for sure( I think) –is where he’s wearing a brownish red jacket drenched in sweat–3 performances in a row!! Still bugs me β
