What is a mother? A mother is someone who loves and cares for us and helps us in so many ways. On this special day, I hope you won’t mind if I talk just a little bit about my own mother. Some of the things my mom did were typical, the things that all mothers do, like making sure I was fed, rocking me to sleep as a baby, singing to me and comforting me when I was sick. Some were not so typical.
My mom loved to sew and made all of my clothes until the time I started school. I wouldn’t wear anything but dresses (I hated shorts and pants.) I still remember all those little dresses she made, always made with lots of lace and ruffles. I still have some of them. She would also sew costumes for me when I told her that I had decided to dance or sing in my elementary school talent contest year after year. I was terrible about giving her much warning. But even if I only told her the day before, she would stay up all night to sew something special for me to wear. She was always there for me. Caring. Loving. Always wanting her child to be happy. (Love you, Mom. ♥)
Once I started wearing pants, I also started climbing trees (haha, straight from prissy little girl to tomboy in one fell swoop.) so she went from stitching clothes to patching up skinned knees. It must have been a chore for her to keep up with the changes in her little girl over the years, but somehow she never got left behind.
Mothering is caring, keeping an eye on our children, worrying about their health and their future, worrying about their needs. There are many different kinds of mothers. Some of us gave birth, some adopted, some are raising grandchildren or nieces or nephews. But those who raise children that they didn’t give birth to are no less of a mother than those that do.
And every once in a while, there is the child of our heart. We didn’t give birth, weren’t there to comfort them when they were sick or patch up that skinned knee, but we love and care about them anyway. David falls into this category for me.
Like many of you, David has become a child of my heart. He doesn’t know me, but that hasn’t stopped me from taking him into my heart. I keep watch to see what’s happening in his life. When I hear of his problems, my heart aches for him because I know there’s nothing I can do to help. I worry about him, miss him when he’s gone, say a prayer for him when needed, and always want the best for him. Like my own child, he makes me smile, and laugh, and hope for good things in his future.
So David, from someone who feels almost like another mother to you at times, I send you my love and my thoughts on this Mother’s Day. Though you are a world away, you are still in our hearts. Take care of yourself. We’ll be worrying about you.
And to all the folks here at The Voice … I hope you have a beautiful Mother’s Day. I know that some here have lost their mothers. My heart goes out to you and I hope you can remember all the loving and caring she gave and remember the laughter without tears.
For those of you whose mothers are still here, I hope you have a wonderful day filled with love and laughter. Be sure to hold her close and tell her you love her.

I had a long car ride today, and was finally able to listen to the entire Forevermore album…without interruptions! What a treat! After each song, I would think, “Oh, that’s got to be my favorite on the album,” …until I listened to the next song! What is it about David’s music?…I never grow tired of it.
Every once in a while, I find myself mulling over the same question…how can David’s music so profoundly touch some people, and not even interest others? What has made me more than a casual listener? I was originally taken aback by my interest in this young man and his music, but I knew that it brought me a lot happiness. I still don’t understand my ODD, but I’ve come to accept it and appreciate it…and I’m so grateful for a site like this where I can celebrate it with others who understand.

MT~ your article is so touching it made me cry. I lost my Mom in my twenties. Still, I have always felt so fortunate because she was a wonderful Mom to me, my sisters and her grandchildren too.
I love what you said about David. He said once that he feels like he has a lot of Moms. So perceptive he is!
Abrra, I was thinking back to last year when you posted a poem about being a Mother. If it’s possible could you reprint it? It was so poignant.

Thank you MT for sharing your special moments you shared with your Mother. Reminded me of my Grandmother (Mom’s mom) – very comforting & loving memories. Because there was a language barrier, very few words were shared but there was so much love in everything she did.

My mom passed away when I was 15 so I had so many wonderful ladies that helped my mom raise me through my teen years. They are all my personal hero’s. I have many personal heros now that help me through everyday struggles. Thanks to so many.
Thanks Mt for your words..they touched my heart. I think David has a lot of mothers….so many of us worry about him and pray for him just like we would our own.

I was fortunate to have my mother with me through my young adult years. It gave me time to learn how to be a good mother to my own child. I was the last born of 8 children. My mother was 40 at the time. As it worked out, I was a teenager just as she was going through menopause.We both had hormones raging off the chart! I was very demanding and bratty (Surprise!) and she usually gave me my own way just to keep the peace. I pushed her patience more than I should have.
I remember the many times she would try to discipline me by getting out a 3 foot yardstick and waving it in my direction. I would laugh hysterically and run all over the house with her in hot pursuit. She never caught me and never laid a hand on me. It was all for show and I knew it. When I was older with a child of my own, she was the best support. Always ready to help and guide me with her wonderful advice. I am grateful for the time I had with her. She is in my thoughts daily and always by my side.

I watched the Extreme Home Make Over Show this morning. They filmed the ladies of the family attending the concert scene from Nadito Ako. Karin has a twitvid of that part here: http://www.twitvid.com/YFPQX
One of the things they did while the house was being rebuilt was to get full spa treatment. One of the “luxuries” was a Fish Pedicure. I fell off my chair when the grandmother had to immerse her feet into a glass tank that was swarming with goldfish ! EWWWWW to the MAXXX!
I found an article describing the process.

Like Abs, my mom had me at age 40. I was the 7th out of 8 children. When I think of her, I think of her smiling, with a baby in her arms – she loved children and could calm them all by cradling them in her arms and singing. I am so lucky to have had her. ♥

Thank your beautiful article MT…. brought back memories for me.My mom was always sewing clothes for us. My sisters and I would often be dressed alike when we were little. Mom could look at us and make dresses, or skirts or play outfits, without ever measuring a thing, and the clothes would fit us all perfectly.( uh,I did not take after my mother in that area.:))haha

One of my favorite Mother’s Day Messages of David was in 2010: “Happy Mother’s Day to my Mom. and all the mothers, grandmothers, and incredible woman who act as a Mom. You are Amazing” I echo that wish today and always. I admire the fact that at such a young age David was so all inclusive!! I visualized him going around helping all the Widows and others in his neighborhood.

That voice box was Angelica’s special addition. (Thanks, Angelica) Isn’t that just the sweetest? And I’m sure his mom must be very proud indeed.
David should have gotten to talk to his Mom today! They must miss each other terribly. Rumor has it that he might be able to Skype with her. I’m sure they’d both love that. I hope it happens for them. Or perhaps it already has!

Lovely article, lovely thoughts on this special day for mothers, grandmothers, aunts, anyone who is a giving person…
When my mom passed away when I was 21, my only way out of the tragic event was to say OK I will make a family so I did, we did. I am also a mother and grandmother to our 7 dogs in the four families and one Siberian kitten. You just never know who needs your attention and devotion.

Mt..a very touching Mother’s day article. My mom was a good mom, but she was sick a lot the last 20 yrs of her life and passed unexpectedly with heart attack at age 66 in 1988. I miss her every day. One of the best Mother’s day memories was when my 2nd daughter brought her 1st daughter home from the hospital and placed her in my arms. She was 3 days old. We took 5 generation pictures, it was so much fun. Almost 3 yrs later I lost my daughter and raised her daughter and son with my other 3 kids. They are now 31 and 32. So proud of them. Also, today would have been my 51st anniversary if my husband hadn’t passed 4 yrs ago. We were married on May 13, 1961. Hope you don’t mind me sharing some of my life, even tho some of it hasn’t been very good. This is why I said David is so much good in my life. He always makes me smile.

I know I could even by myself, even though it wouldn’t want to put the last 50 yrs of mine in print! lol I try and live for the day and thank God for everything I do have, There is always someone worse off. The last 4 yrs since my husband passed David or his music has always been there for me. Even tho he doesn’t know me personally, he knows that his music helps others and that’s why I think he will always stay in music. I told him that in a letter I gave him at a VIP once. One time I was standing in line for us to get our picture taken at VIP and this guy was telling David that he saved his life. David asked how and the guy told him that he weighed about 400 lbs and the doc told him to lose or he would die. When he seen David on AI week after week, showing his stamina at such a young age, the guy said that if David can do that, he could lose weight, and he did. David said that it was a cool story and he thanked the guy for sharing. I don’t want people to think that I have it worse off than others, and I thank you all for understanding me if I say something sad. And it makes me feel good that you do.

I must admit that Anaheim is my go-to This Christmas (I love his fun, relaxed vibe), but SLC is beyond good.

MT, forgot to say how much your post touched my heart and brought back memories of my own mother and the sacrifices she made for us. She was a single mom and raised three girls and I know it was often difficult for her. It was a matriarchal household and she was our world. As Nanaweize said above, “when they are gone they sure leave a hole in your heart.”

More than the performance of “Stomping The Roses” I listened to what he said to the fans before coming onstage. Idk, I guess it was taken from a vlog he did prior to the show but his choice of words and the inflection in his voice at around :55 is worth paying attention to.
“…finally getting to come to perform for you guys!!…to do the show for you!! to meet you!! to see you and come to your country!! and I just cannot wait!!….”
He talks to us with so much humility and without a bit of arrogance which sometimes comes naturally with being a celebrity. There is nobody Quite like him.

MT, beautiful memories, thank you and all for sharing. I’m lucky to have my mother and she had hers until the ripe age of 99. May I be so blessed.

Wanted to share something my sister-in-law said the other night. We were watching some David videos after the men had gone to sleep (in their chairs watching sports – snore, snore). She watched him for a while and then said, “Oh, my God, I’m a total fan. I know what you see in him, now. It’s his soul. His voice is the vehicle that projects his soul into the world. He’s an old soul, and a strong spirit. And, by the way, he is really sexy!” HAhahahaha –

i was all teary eyed over marlie’s sister-in law story. Then i read down to SBs, we are thinking of you. I am doing fine,, it is just slow going. I have been inundated with cardds, flowers and food. There is a lot of love and caring rolling around this world. Maiybe sometimes you need a clunk on the h ead to stop and feel it.
My mother’s day present to myself was sending my daughter Forevermore. Hers to me is playing it many times. I am confident, in time she will understand.

I went to a women’s chorus concert last night (our David fan @Nellie1983 (Janel) is a member of the group) and they sang ‘Angels Among Us’. It brought tears to my eyes as I listened to the words and realized how much they related to David. Janel looked over at me during the song and as our eyes connected, so did our hearts. It was a fun hour.

My family took me out to my favorite restaurant (of the moment), “The Cheesecake Factory” and we had a delicious meal complete with (you guessed it) cheesecake! They embarrassed me by having all the waiters bring my dessert with candles to the table, while singing their own birthday medley.

As for someone singing Imagine on Idol tonight, it will be interesting to see how it turns out. Of course, I personally don’t think anyone can ever touch David’s version. But if they really feel it, they might do ok.
I was thinking about what the judges tell the contestants about putting more feeling in the song/performance, which is what David seems to do so effortlessly. But, I think the judges are phrasing that wrong when giving them advice.
Because I don’t think David tries to put the feeling into his performance, he puts it into his heart. Once it’s in his heart, he doesn’t have to make an effort to put it into the performance. It just happens naturally.
Anyway, I think THAT is what most of the contestants on AI haven’t figured out.
It’s probably why David’s so selective about what he performs, too. Have you ever noticed that, on certain songs, you can literally see him pulling his feelings back in and pulling himself out of that place that he goes to get that feeling? I have. And it’s always fascinated me.

Today a new worker came into my office for the first time. When she spotted my David corner she became excited. She said “Oh I met him and he is soooo nice”. This is her story:
She was at a party in her friend’s house when the doorbell rang. There stood a young man who said he was supposed to be at a party and he wondered if this was the party he was looking for. When they checked the address he had, it was for a home down the street. Someone said, “You look just like David Archuleta.” He replied, “I AM David Archuleta.” They invited him in and he signed a few things, then posed for photos. After a few minutes, they watched him walk down the street to someone else’s party.
I asked her if he sang for them. She looked perplexed and said he didn’t really sing a song, but sometimes he was singing when he was talking. She asked if I understood what she meant. Uh huh. I sure did.

That’s a beautiful example of David going “there”. You can see him going in and out of it.
It’s looks like … he closes his eyes and reaches into his heart for the “it” that he puts into the song, almost as if he’s reaching in and taking a piece of his heart out and handing it to his audience.
Gahhh, isn’t what he does just beautiful?

Don’t know if I can stand to watch someone else sing Imagine. David owns that song and the judges better not say that tonights version is the best they’ve ever heard! Or give them a standing ovation!!

Did Joshua actually think he could sing Imagine better than David tonight on AI? It was a huge gamble and he blew it. His performance did not come close to David’s. Furthermore, in choosing that song, he lost my respect. I have had no interest in voting since Season 7 but if I was a voter he would have lost my vote tonight. And I was rooting for him to win (in my head, of course).
I was waiting for one of the judges to say that Joshua’s Imagine was the best ever on the Idol stage blah blah blah blab blab blab but they didn’t. That’s because David’s Imagine remains untouched. Nobody messes with that song; it belongs to The Voice.

well, to my surprise, it was Joshua that sang Imagine. He sang it.That’s all. IMO the judges handled it well. no over the top comments They seemed to be being very careful with their words. .For me, it just made David’s performance even more memorable.♥

Yes, I was waiting for the judges reactions too. I’m glad they didn’t try to pretend it was the best version ever.
And for one moment, when it was Randy’s turn to talk and he hesitated, I could have sworn he was thinking of David’s version. After all, he’s seen him perform that song 3 times and David’s version would be hard to forget. I even thought maybe that’s why he asked the guy why he sang it. You know, like “why would you choose to sing that song when David Archuleta already sang THE unforgetable version of it?”
But then again, maybe I just think that cuz I’m David biased. lol Ya think? Maybe? 🙂

Tonight makes me miss David more than ever. David had three awesome moments on the Season 7 finale. I just don’t think that this season’s talent runs as deep. I guess we will see.

I knew that whoever sang Imagine wouldn’t even come close to David. And I agree with you, MT about Randy’s response. I seen his thoughts rolling around in his head about David singing it. I even thought maybe he might mention him, but he didn’t. For some reason, it’s almost like he wasn’t even on AI, the way they act. Never any pictures or videos of him anymore. It makes me sad. Glad his fans are keeping him “out there”.
Right, Bebe. David’s version stays untouched. And as far as I’m concerned it always will be.

I was waiting for Randy to mention David too! I really don’t know why he didn’t or doesn’t mention David’s name more. David only has good things to say about American Idol. He promotes the show by watching it himself and even represented the show when he was in Singapore a few months ago!

No worries; your comment wasn’t harsh. I know they each sang three songs on tonight’s show but it still didn’t have the electricity in the air like it did in Season 7. There’s no repeating Season 7, IMO. It’s in a league of it’s own.
