David Archuleta Fans ~ A Pitcher of Patients and The Picture of Patience
Posted by Lovefrommich on Sunday, April 15, 2012
The FunnyGirl
No, I haven’t lost my mind. Well, it may have gone missing for a few days. I eventually found it, curled up in the corner on the couch, wearing my I ♥ David Archuleta t-shirt, crying into its ice tea. I patted it, hugged it and told it this:
Me: “We are the picture of patience.”
My brain: “What?”
Me: “You know, patience.”
My brain: “You mean like mental patients right?”
Me: “LOL NO! well…..NO! patience with the letter C!”
My brain: “I don’t think so. I don’t believe you.”
Me: “Really?? Let me go over some things you have done and you tell me if they required patience……
How long did you vote/text for him on Idol? How many days/times/hours?
How hard did you vote/request/promote Crush?
How many hours did you spend on countless polls with his name on them?
How long did you wait after Crush to hear him on the radio again? And what happened when that didn’t happen? Did you give up hope?
How many hours did you spend blogging, thinking, watching YouTube, worrying, meeting new friends, going to concerts, saving money?
How long have you waited in line to see him? How far have you travelled?
How many times have you prayed for him?
How many nights have you stayed up waiting for a twitpic or video from his latest appearance?
How many months/years have you waited to see him live in your town? How about the fans that have never seen him live yet? How long have they waited?
How many hours have you spent learning about charitable causes he told you about?
How long have you waited for him to achieve the level of success that you hope for, that you think he deserves?
How long have you known that he gives 1500% all the time?
How many times has he inspired you by following his heart? How many times does your heart faint when he hits a glory note?
How does this all add up? What kind of measurement can you use to determine the length, depth, and magnitude of love and investment you have put into this?
I know you are sad because you will miss him. You imagine the worst-that you will not hear from him for two years. Understand this my dear, music is in him. He said he’s coming back to music. We will hear from him and or his team while he is away. I believe that he keeps us in his heart always as we do him. We are the most patient people on the planet. It is who we are, it is what we do. It is what we will continue to do. He may be going to a different address for a while, but he is always right there with you.”
My brain: “Thanks. I needed that. But can I keep the shirt?”

Funnygirl, I have done just about everything listed that required patience, but at the time I didn’t feel that I was using any because everything I did was because I wanted to do it! It was all so much fun!! Out of the love for this guy that stole my heart with his voice, his sweetness and great personality.♥ And with everthing he has done for us, I will be patient and be here in 2 yrs when he returns. The only thing that I have run out of patience with is…Astrovision not sending my cd’s yet!!!! lol Good thing I went ahead and ordered them from WOW too, so I’ve already got them! I ordered more from WOW when they were on sale and I’ll probably get them before the ones from Astro!

FG, Love your heartfelt comments and the quote! I like thinking about being actively patient. There is something a little different now. We don’t have David tweeting everyday and lots of new news coming out every week. We can’t fill up our bucket with David goodness the way we have in the past. We need to … or at least I need.. to find a different way to move the time along faster and fill my bucket up fuller. Been thinking about how David uses his time…. every single minute and more… to do something good for others.. to bless another’s life in a small way…. to develop and grow his talents …. wow.. maybe I could do something like that. I bet time would fly on by and I could do a little “pay it forward” in David’s honor. So maybe I could “endure it well” by being actively patient. Think I will try and while I am trying.. I hope I don’t lose some of the great friendships I have gained because of David, cuz you all are awesome and a blessing!

FG! It’s been over four years and for some who saw David on Star Search even longer. This is definitely an excerise in patience and here we are, actively patient indeed. Love this FG.
“I believe that he keeps us in his heart always as we do him. We are the most patient people on the planet. It is who we are, it is what we do. It is what we will continue to do. He may be going to a different address for a while, but he is always right there with you.”
Been very busy doing many regular family things and others because of David’s examples and leadership. We plan to be actively supporting David in many ways during these two years so please stick around 🙂
Rumor has it that David will start his journey to Chile today. Just in case here is the prayer.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for taking great care of David, for watching over him and protecting him from harm.
Thank You for surrounding him with Your love and allowing him to accomplish so much in his young life.
Thank You for helping David accept and rise up to the challenges he has faced and has yet to face.
Thank You for giving David the courage in refusing to compromise his beliefs & principles.
Thank You for surrounding David with people who respect, support and love him unconditionally.
Thank You for separating David from those with agendas other than for his well-being.
Thank You for bringing David into our lives and allowing us to have a heart & soul connection to him which grows stronger every day.
We ask that You walk side by side with David as he begins his Mission bringing Honor and Glory to You.
We ask that You keep David happy, healthy and strong as he embarks on his Mission and throughout his time doing good works in Your name.
We ask that You give David assurance if ever he doubts our love for him and give him as much joy as he has given to so many.
We ask that You will gently remind him every day of our commitment to be here waiting for him.
We ask that You will give us the wisdom to do right by David and help us in the way we support him so that it is always in his best interests.
We pray David will always encounter goodwill and happiness wherever he goes in this next chapter of his life.
We ask that You will keep David’s glorious voice healthy and strong so he can resume and continue to fulfill his destiny when he returns.
We ask that You keep David safe in Your protective arms until he makes his way back home to his loved ones and to us.
Amen.
Dear David,
Thinking of you, your humility, your kindness and your courage.
You inspire us to be better than we ever hoped we could be.
You inspire us to do more than we ever thought we could do.
You inspire us to think about others before ourselves.
There are no words which can adequately thank you for all you have done for us and for how much you mean to us.
You will be missed more than you will ever know.
Keep with you all our love, support & prayers. Be safe & take care!
We will be with you in spirit wherever you are and wherever you go.
Contigo siempre!

You’ve captured all that it takes and all that makes us the strong fanbase that we are, patient, reliable, loyal, hopeful, relentless, caring. We don’t give up. We don’t just talk the talk; we walk it, too. We will soon see the first month (April) disappear from the right sidebar and the rest of the months, albeit slowly, will move too.
The last few days have been hectic for me. Good hectic, but hectic nonetheless. I received my “Forevermore” a few days ago but didn’t have a chance to listen privately until today. David’s voice is just the balm I needed. His music is my happy place; my safe place, the place I know I can go to when I want to feel whole again. I’d have to be off my rocker crazynuts to give up something like this.
As long as it takes, David, we will be here waiting for you. #DA2014 FTW!

I felt a little better once we started the Count down or Count back to us as the Circular theory was introduced. (Love this concept) Nice to get a little news from David today via Kari and knowing now that he has been informed of our love of Forevermore and activities helps a lot. Word has it that David is heading to Atlanta right now and will be at his destination by tommorrow morning. Thanks for adding SF prayer. Wishing David safe travels and all he hopes for from his Mission. Sending Blessings his way!! I imagine this Step in his Journey is so meaningful. More training I’m sure and less commotion hopefully. All of which we know David handles well. Just re read Page 184 of COS. David’s faith is strong we know.

You are so right FG, we are a patient bunch. But why? because the object of our patience is so worth it, because he is irreplaceable in our hearts (nobody can sing like him or be like him) because our love for him is true (not just a fad) and well, ODD is incurable! So we have no choice but to wait patiently and enduring well until he returns. It all is achingly joyful if that makes sense.
His tweet today brought sunshine to my day. It doesn’t take much David, patiently waiting for more…
Safe journey David, our thougths and prayers are with you, always.

If I was meant to see him, I didn’t want it to be because I tracked him down. Anyway, my coworker saw David around 12:30 this afternoon.”

no he had his companion and several other missionaries were flying to..but they always have thier companion with them. Years ago the families could come and say goodbye, now the missionaries fly out with missionaries. I must admit I waved and he waved back, but you think he was happy before, you should see him now! He looked great!!!! and a huge smile from ear to ear…he is doing the right thing! so proud to be a fan!

It was this morning…not exact time…but there were missionaries there. It was funny cause I thought I wonder if David is here…not knowing anything…and there he was! He will be such a good missionary

I just kept thinking as I was driving to work, he is where he is supposed to be! He knows it, and we all just need to support him. I’m excited for his adventures coming up! Again, if you could see his face and see his whole being he was radiating like I’ve never seen him and I have met him once or twice.! I don’t generally post much, and probably will here and there, but had to share what I witnessed… he is truly amazing!
Sonotoveryou says:

I am a Mormon…I believe this had to be the hardest decision David has ever made. He will always love his fans, and he loves the church, but mostly loves a Heavenly Father that has blessed him so much, and David is mindful of this. What a greater way to say “thankyou” for all that he has been blessed with! He will be touching so many lives and growing so much. He is so full of love! He will comeback even stronger and will always hold close to his heart this experiece with us his fans! Be happy for him and as he is growing we need to to! Nothing is ever the same. I am so excited for him and the person he will become! Chile is so lucky to have him and for the many lives he will touch in such a “short” time! Heck, we’ve been lucky to have him for three years! go David! And by the way, I must admit, it’s been a little hard to see him go!

Hello everyone! I know Sonotoveryou has already confirmed this, but I can second the confirmation about David leaving today. I work at the SLC airport and one of my co-workers just happened to see him. My co-worker tried calling me, but as luck would have it, I wasn’t in the office. It looks like I just missed seeing David by just a few moments. I wanted to respect his privacy, so I chose not to track him down after my co-worker told me which direction he saw David go. It was enough for me to know that I was in the same building as him. So, it’s official……David is headed to Chile.

Strong quake shakes Chile capital – USGS
SANTIAGO (Reuters) – A powerful 6.5 magnitude earthquake struck near the Chilean capital Santiago on Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The quake, which the USGS initially measured at a magnitude of 6.6, struck 30 miles (48 km) north-northeast of the main port of Valparaiso, and 72 miles (116 km) northwest of the capital Santiago at a depth of 16.1 miles (25.9 km), it said.
There were no initial reports of damage or injuries.

I learned today that my daughter’s good friend who is a missionary in the MTC lived on the same floor as David, and left from the SLC airport today as well. From what I heard, David sang at a Fireside last night for the missionaries.

And why is that, Gladys, when your knowledge of South America and romantic sensibilities are so invaluable to us all?
Finally received my Forevermore CD in the mail today. Had to take the long way home from work, extending a 5 mile trip into more than 60 miles. What an ache it opened in my heart and instantly healed as only the Voice can. So beautiful in every way and what a prince to leave this jewel for us to enjoy while he takes his journey.
FG, we are indeed a patient lot. Thanks for reminding us. When I think of all the times spent waiting in lines, before and after shows, waiting for concert dates tba, waiting for the big day, enduring (well) the moshpits with the patience of Job…and as you said:
“How many hours did you spend blogging, thinking, watching YouTube, worrying, meeting new friends, going to concerts, saving money?
How long have you waited in line to see him? How far have you travelled?
How many times have you prayed for him?
How many nights have you stayed up waiting for a twitpic or video from his latest appearance?”
And I would do it all again, gladly.
Prayers for Elder Archuleta, his companions and all the people of Chile. It does not appear so very bad at present.

I am patient when it comes to all things David. Part of patience for me is trust. I think about the long waits in between most projects that David does and know that there was always a giant reward at the other end. It’s exciting that he is finally on his way to discover the meaning of service and sacrifice. That’s what its all about, right? You have to admire him for being honest in stating his intentions about his desire for a mission. Its a small task that we have to simply wait.
I have a great sense of anticipation when I think about the time when he returns home. David wears growth very well.

Abrra: Loved your spirals article. Comforting.
FG: Yes, patience — thanks for the words to live by. Hard at my age to wait two years but actually, on the ship, a lady was celebrating her 102nd birthday! So, who knows?
Gladys: Por favor, espere, espere, espere, no te vayas!
Funny how there are reminders of David everywhere. On the ship there were flamenco dancers, and also a lady who carried a water bottle that had brand name Contigo. As our return-flight plane taxied, we passed a private plane with the name Zero G on the side.
Interesting that our Canadian Prime Minister is meeting with the President of Chile in Santiago even as David is arriving. TV news here reports on the earthquake and that the PM is safe (gosh, they didn`t mention David!).

Been knee deep in family for a week or so– son that’s going to Germany for three years came home to see Mom–followed by brothers and a sister + some grandkids!! Besides being busy –the computer was occupied most of the time–cking the weather (nasty) , etc. I even was treated to a 2 hour rock concert, when we hooked the Bose up to the computer sound and they discovered their old favorite bands from their high school and college days– on You-tube. 😯 ” Dream” ?? Never heard of them. 🙄 –Egads, talk about a headache !!!!!! David come save me!! Actually there was some massive retaliation–made them listen to some of the MoTab and The Drummer Boy–they thought it was awesome. Heehee.
So— two of my favorite fellas are leaving me-one already gone and one on his way soon— ♪♪♪” Tell me whyyyy, I can’t seem to face the truth–I’m just a little too not over–them leaving”♪♪♪ But , they are both on exciting new journeys.
Funniest thing I read on one of the sites ( not from a missionary blog) -a newspaper article —one of the girls at the MTC said –“David wears the tightest missionary pants.” LOL -but, we wouldn’t know anything about that. 😉
FG—Thanks for the reminder–that we DO have patience– and we know how to use it when necessary–mine about went out the window with Astrominus and always does when I’m trying to sew and things aren’t going my way.
Abs–loved how the theme of your article reminded us that David is actually on his way back–and that makes me feel so good.
So David’s time is——The current time and date right now in Chile is

dak, you made me chuckle with the pants comment. Thanks for bringing that over.
My sister was in Fischbach, Germany when her husband was stationed there over 30 years ago. She went back last year and said it was pretty much the same as when she was there, that it hadn’t really changed at all; kinda like stepping back in time. She really enjoyed her time living there. She was young and drank alot of that dark german beer. 😉
I am actually looking forward to all of the things I am sure we will learn about Chile in the next 2 years.

I`m so confused. I still have not received my Forevermore CD from Astroplus — apparently shipped March 28th. Now, last week — in seven days mind you — I flew 1,150 miles to Florida, then sailed 2,500 miles roundtrip in the Caribbean, then flew 1,150 miles back home. How is it that my CD is still travelling somewhere — life`s mysteries — oh my, well I`ll appreciate it all the more when it finally arrives!
So happy David is safe and that he is also happy. Please God, keep him well.

Steno,
Welcome Back from your cruise! You’ve been missed here and in chat!
And Dak, that goes for you too, but glad you got to see your family!
Dja, Thanks for the video in comment #58 of the people speaking with a Chilean accent. I do notice a slight difference in the dialect from other Spanish accents I’m more familiar with.
Betsy,
Thanks for the current pic of David from Chile! That smile is all sorts of wondeful spazzing out of control here. And speaking of spazzing…
Dak….I have never in my life seen eyes like those! What in the world!?!?

Djafan, 58…one of my all time favorite fan videos. Thanks for posting. Watching it…feeling bittersweet.
Betsy, 64…He does look happy. I wonder if that picture was taken in Chile.
Abrra, 67…Are those eyes for real? They’re gold! “The eyes are the windows to the soul.”
Steno, 69…Crossing my fingers that your CD arrives soon! Welcome back!
It was so sweet of Kari to let us know that David arrived safely in Chile. I can’t help but think that it’s got to feel nice to move on to this next phase of his mission. Although the MTC was a very important preparation time, it must have been hard with all eyes on his every move…and no way to escape it, but I’m sure he was gracious as always. I’m sure the other missionaries were respectful, but everyone knew who he was and were curious. I’m sure there are fans in Chile, but nothing like here, and I I am hoping that he will be able to walk about relatively unnoticed…especially depending on the areas where he is assigned. Many of the areas where my son served had very few TVs and computers.
I listened to the Forevermore CD on my ipod for the first time tonight…totally different listening experience!

Some pictures were circulated on twitter that came from family member’s facebook pages. They were taken by family as personal memories. They were taken at a private moment on the day he went into the MTC. We want to honor David’s request to give him privacy on matters around his mission. Family pictures are private. When David poses for a picture with someone other than family, he realizes it might be shared online.
I hope this clears up any confusion.

Thank you Abrra, I think that any pictures that the family don’t want to have circulated, they shouldn’t post them on facebook, or post them as private. We as fans don’t want to iinvade his privacy, we just want to see that beautiful happy face, I just have to wait until 2014 to see his wonderful face again, unless pictures come from the man himself.

Oh, baby, I feel for you!! You sound amazing – like you are really handling it all so well. Well…. yeah. Blessings and safety to your son on his way to Germany. Major hugs to you and all you love.
As for me… my own David comes home TONIGHT from his two year mission to Spain, Barcelona. MY BRAIN IS TOTAL MUSH. *_* That is all.
And it is taking me several tries to spell even the simplest of words. Passing in the “comings and goings” of life: my David and Dear DA. If I come down from the clouds any time soon I will let you know. The birds and I have this amazing view…. and all of life and happiness and knowledge….. it all is mine – ask me anything – just don’t expect me to be able to spell it. Yeah, the window is closing on that opportunity fairly soon.
Thing is: I don’t really have any questions right now. ^_^ Isn’t that sad? That at the times when one knows the most, there just aren’t any questions to answer? I guess love is just like that.
All my best to you all,

David Archuleta “Only On OMG!”
Apr 18, 2012
In this interview with Yahoo! Philippines, David Archuleta shares his thoughts on his acting debut, recording the OPM (Original Pilipino Music) song “Nandito Ako”, embarking on his spiritual mission, and the support of fans.
http://davidarchuleta.com/home/?p=4204
“When I get back, will I have to start over again? I don’t know. Will I have somewhere to start off with? I feel like I will, because the fans have been so great. And they’ve let me know. It’s like, “you know what, we’ll be here for you’ and that means so much.”

Okay, y’all, I’m getting this urge to go buy myself a nice piece of jewelry which is not what I need to be spending money on right now.
Blue–So excited for you! Happy day for you!
I have a totally unimportant confession to make. All these countdown clocks everywhere were starting to depress me. 700 and something seems like such a big gob of a number. I’m looking at my calendar today trying to fix prom, high school and college graduation, and vacation dates in my brain, not to mention bridal shower and wedding dates. This time of year speeds by for us, and it is always July 4th before I know it. I realized that David will have been gone 99 days on the 4th of July, roughly 1/7 of his mission. By the time I make it through the huge family wedding in the fall, 1/4 of his mission will be over. And by Christmas time–over 1/3. For some reason, reducing the time to fractions helps-ha! I expect I need some therapy.
Have a good evening, y’all!

Marlie #91/92,
It was fun spending time with you when we waited for VIP in Atlantic City. The blinding color of David’s eyes now explains why your face went pale after you met him. LOL As for me? I didn’t look into his eyes due to self-preservation. One look at that color and I would have been toast.
Rest In Peace, Dick Clark
I wonder if David is so cut off from communication that he doesn’t know about the passing of Dick Clark. Surely he knows of Dick Clark and the huge contribution he made to American music and the entertainment industry.
Xaris,
I love your fractions. 🙂 And your theory.

I have no idea how they were acquired. We are trying to respect David’s wishes for privacy, even if others do not. The responsibility lies with those who make his family pictures available. It doesn’t mean we have to post them.

I have been in the rabbit hole watching some old American Bandstand videos.:( I faithfully watched that show with my older sister before me, and my younger sister after me.Remember reading all about the popular dancers in the teen mags back in the 60s and my older sister kept up with Bob and Justine and the other regulars.♥ Rest in Peace Dick Clark. For me you will always remain forever young.
just an aside here..I think we are all big kids now, who should know whether/when a picture taken of D should be shared or not shared. personally, I wouldn’t even go to anyone else’s Facebook page to search. I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but instinct would tell me when it looks like an invasion of Davids privacy regardless of if it is “fair game” or not.
I trust Abs, and the other admin. here to make that call.♥

Because David is no longer at the MC–IMO –I couldn’t see the harm in posting this –it is from a missionaries blog, but is nothing personal about David,. I’m just intrigued that they couldn’t resist hearing that awesome voice in a solo before he left.
“They have devotionals on Sunday nights and no one knows who is coming until we are sitting in the bleachers and they walk in. As we were all sitting singing hymns, half way through a verse of something or other, Elder Ballard walked in and the entire congregation stood and sang louder. It was quite impressive and a great moment to see. We had a double whammy last night-Elder Archuleta sang “The Spirit of God” right before Elder Ballard spoke. Elder Archuleta was incredible, of course and I don’t think there was one dry eye by the time he was done (including his, he broke down on the last chorus). After he concluded and sat down Elder Ballard got up and said “Gosh Elder Archuleta is a hard act to follow!” Of course, all of us started laughing quite hard at this and then Elder Ballard gave the rest of his talk-which was very good as well.”
Thanks to everyone on the well wishes for my son– I am now all Skyped up and ready to go.
Bluesky–#85–How wonderful for you …and …your son. They’ll probably have to tie a teather to you –to keep you from floating away.
