Well I did it again–posted on the old thread–so here it is again Haha
Bah!!!! Can you believe The Motab Concert on PBS here in S. Dak. has been pre-empted by Frontline with a show about child abuse. 😥
Now I’m all against child abuse—but I feel abused—after all it is the Christmas season. But it will air on Christmas Day at 11:00AM. I’m sure
people will be doing a gazillion other things at that time.
Now I have a request—could you people ( esp. you Sky) hold your squeeeing down–I can hear you clear up here–sounds like a faint siren off in the distance.
That noise along with the sound of sobbing and heavy sighs coming from the East coast, means I have to turn my speakers up even louder—dang!
I suppose people are already lined up in Calif. even tho it’s only a little after 4:00 PM—I just realized–it will take until tomorrow for videos because of the time difference–oh, well I’ll just not put on any socks tomorrow morning–cause they’ll just get blown off. 😯
#140 SweetonDA—”I won’t even care if my sister’s look at me like I’m crazy.”—– Now that’s the kind of attitude to have. 😉
#146-Abs “Was there anything else to stare at on that island but his head? I think not!” GAH Is he magnificent –or what?
SB Our PBS had it scheduled for Dec. 14 at 4:00 AM —well that ticked me off–so I called them–they said “Oh, that’s wrong–then as I said above proceeded to tell me it was pre-empted and when it would be on.

I was able to go to the Cedar City show and if Santa Rosa is half as good as that one then all the fans are in for a real treat. I think we are all gonners…once David either looks at us or sings to us all the sense we once had is all gone. LOL!
I think David has grown up right before our eyes…he owned that stage in Cedar City and it was so enjoyable to be there enjoying each song and each time he spoke to us. His confidence level was soaring. Each song I would say to myself…oh..I think this song is my favorite. Then he would sing the next song and I would say…wait I think this song is my favorite. At the end…I decided…I can’t choose my favoiite! I just love em all!

Okay I see now that the picture above comes from an article about David in the Salt Lake City Tribune. There are 12 pics in total.
David Archuleta performs holiday show in Salt Lake City hometown
By david burger
The Salt Lake Tribune
First published 24 minutes ago
One of the first Christmas songs David Archuleta ever sang was “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus,” but he admits he has always hated that song.
The idea that his mother would ever kiss someone else besides him offended his sensibility. “I was super-protective of my mom,” Archuleta said. “Even when I was
three, no one could touch my mommy. I would sing that song in a jealous way.”
So, when Archuleta headlines Abravanel Hall on Dec. 19 during his “My Kind of Christmas Tour,” suffice to say that particular song will not be on the set list.
It has been a year of valleys and peaks for the singer, who turns 21 on Dec. 28. Last December, he headlined the Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s annual Christmas extravaganza in front of more than 80,000 concertgoers. Earlier this year, the Utah singer and Jive Records parted ways after Archuleta’s “The Other Side of Down” only sold about 67,000 copies, according to Billboard. That’s in contrast to self-titled 2007 debut album, which reached as high as No. 2 on the Billboard charts, sold 765,000 copies and spawned the hit single “Crush.”
But locally, Archuleta helped draw a stadium’s worth of fans as the co-headliner with Brad Paisley for Provo’s Stadium of Fire concert over the July 4th weekend.
And this fall he hit another local high note, as the CD/DVD of last year’s Mormon Tabernacle Choir concert, “Glad Tidings Christmas,” has been among the best-sellers at Deseret Book and other religious bookstores.
The Abravanel Hall concert will be the second-to-last performance of his tour, which began in New York on Dec. 1 and concludes in Colorado on Dec. 21.
Monday’s performance will be more like the Christmas shows he performed two years ago, after the release of his 2009 album “Christmas From the Heart.” Along with traditional yuletide tunes, Archuleta said he will include “Crush” and other popular song, “just for energy’s sake.”
Although he has toured the world since he finished second in 2008’s seventh season of “American Idol,” in an interview Archuleta still displayed the jitters he says he feels when he’s the center of attention. He sang bits of songs to himself under his breath, and when asked, he admitted his friends make fun of that trait. “I don’t even notice it,” he says. “When I’m not thinking about being watched, or being threatened, I do it.”
The lack of self-confidence comes from his perception that he’s not a “Vegas performer,” with decades of experience under his belt. “I’m still learning how to do it,” he says. “I’m not the most professionally skilled performer out there, and I will say my abilities are limited. What I do know, I love to sing, and I always want to do my best.”
On this tour, Archuleta has continued writing songs for his next album, experimenting with what he described as a more natural approach than on his two pop-influenced Jive albums. He’s concentrating on writing uplifting music. Not religious songs exactly, but songs with a message.
When he was younger, vocal coach Dean Kaelin would take him to assisted-living homes to perform. Archuleta remembered standing at the side of a bed that held a terminally ill patient, singing “A Piece of Sky,” from the Barbra Streisand film “Yentl.”
“That music meant a lot to her,” Archuleta says. “She was coming alive during the song. That’s when I realized how important music could be.”
The year 2012 will likely be another defining year for a young performer who is still finding the musician inside himself. “The goal this year is to take the time I need to know what I want to become,” he says.
As he crooned to an elderly woman so many years ago:
Tell me where.

And for those who are lyric-hugry peeps like me and all who love good metaphors, take that:
Music: Michel Legrand
Lyrics: Alan and Marilyn Bergman
Premiere: 1983
PRAYER
God, our merciful father,
I’m wrapped in a robe of light,
Clothed in your glory
That spreads its wings over my soul.
Maybe I be worthy
Amen.
There’s not a morning I begin without
A thousand questions running through my mind,
That I don’t try to find the reason and the logic
In the world that God designed.
The reason why
a bird was given wings,
If not to fly and praise the sky
With every song it sings.
What’s right or wrong,
Where I belong
Within the scheme of things…
And why have eyes that see
And arms that reach
Unless you’re meant to know
There’s something more?
If not to hunger for the meaning of it all,
Then tell me what a soul is for?
Why have the wings
Unless you’re meant to fly?
And tell me please, why have a mind
If not to question why?
And tell me where-
Where is it written what it is
I’m meant to be, that I can’t dare
To have the chance to pick the fruit of every tree,
Or have my share of every sweet-imagined possibility?
Just tell me where, tell me where?
If I were only meant to tend the nest,
Then why does my imagination sail
Across the mountains and the seas,
Beyond the make-believe of any fairy tale?
Why have the thirst if not to drink the wine?
And what a waste to have a taste
Of things that can’t he mine?
And tell me where, where is it written what it is
I’m meant to be, that I can’t dare-
To find the meanings in the mornings that I see,
Or have my share of every sweet-imagined possibility?
Just tell me where- where is it written?
Tell me where-
Or if it’s written anywhere?

I must say that David’s performance of “Good Place” and Let it Be” tonight was the most beautiful thing I have ever heard from David (or anyone else, for that matter). David doesn’t save his best just for the main events. Any time he opens his mouth and his heart to sing is a unique moment in his life, and can produce this kind of gut wrenching result. There really is no limit to what David can do with a song.

Second…SLC ‘real time’ is gonna happen!!! I got my VIP intinerary today! I am sooo pumped!! My hubby is not so sure what to think about me (even tho’ he will be there with me). I talked to my daughter today and she and her 2 oldest (8 and 7) are anxious to get here and be a part of it!
So, California, be very careful with our man. Send him back to us in one piece and healthy!! *love you guys*

It felt as if David had gone to another, deeper level of his soul, and, to those of us who trust him unconditionally, he allows us to also go deeper into our own souls. That’s one of the hardest thing to do in life, unless you have a loving, trustworthy guide like David Archuleta to lead you.
There was something very different about him in this performance. I know because I felt it not only in a “Good Place” but in a “New Place”.

Fans have been tweeting David since TOSOD came out to please make Good Place part of his setlist for TOSOD shows. We never gave up but it didn’t seem like it was going to happen I guess the lyrics are very personal so he had reasons for not singing it. But he knew how much we love the song and how much we wanted to see him perform it live in concert. He knew and he delivered. It might take awhile sometimes but he never lets us down. It’s a gift from David to his fans. JMO

Bebereader, “Good Place” is one of my favorite songs on TOSOD, but it was not sung on the CD with the maturity we heard tonight. It felt like a completely different song. This is part of David’s musical genius. He can sing the same song, with the same lyrics, and convey and evoke different emotions. This performance really threw me for a loop. As for “Let it Be”, the Beatles are now the one’s with the cover version.

Well add to it insomnia…You know you have a patient husband when he understands this! Thank heavens he met my mental disturbance once!
Bliss, you don’t know how comforting your words are right now. You are helping to make sense of the beauty and impact of David’s voice.
But at the end of the torment of hearing such a magnificent voice that tares at our heart strings, comes the honor that we are all a part of this experience. We are here with tears of joy sometimes. But, we have been given a rare gift and I will remember that during the days ahead as he plays his drum and enjoys his most favorite time of the year.

The little girl also gave David a valuable lesson–NO need to be self conscience –if she can let it all hang out on stage–so can he–and just let it go and be all loosey-goosey and break out those moves we know he has. 😯
Oh, I’m too excited for everyone going tonight to even talk. And David if you’re going to keep carrying on this way–there will not be any ” I Need a Silent Night” for me. How is a person supposed to get ready for company and Christmas –with all these distractions?

Concert nights are so special
I found more info in the Forbes interview and performance!
They were so impressed! Not surprising at all!
David Archuleta Headlines First Ever Forbes Holiday Concert
12/14/2011 @ 2:27PM |
“The Forbes building has been quite an eventful place of late. Had you walked into the lobby yesterday afternoon, for instance, you might have witnessed rapper Mac Miller’s chance encounter with Steve Forbes.
And had you stopped by the fourth floor newsroom on December 2nd, you’d have noticed perhaps an even more unusual scene: 60 reporters, editors, producers, salespeople and technologists gathered in a circle, watching a live performance by David Archuleta
The former American Idol star dropped by to play a handful of Christmas songs and talk about the business of holiday music. Archuleta knows plenty about both–he released a holiday album of his own, Christmas From The Heart, in 2009; this year, he’s featured on the Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s Glad Christmas Tidings.
Holiday music, of course, is a big business. Michael Buble’s Christmas has already sold over 1 million copies, spending the past three weeks atop the charts. Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber both pitched in with holiday albums of their own this year. For his part, Archuleta has been spreading cheer on the road, grossing $43,000 per night according to concert data provider Pollstar. But when I interviewed him, his mind didn’t seem to be on money.
“I feel like there’s something special about Christmas music,” he said. “You’re able to put your heart into it a different way than with other, just pop, stuff.”
Perhaps the earnestness of his tone convinced me, or maybe the string of lights adorning a nearby cubicle wall played to my sentimental side, but I believed him. Judging by the reactions of my colleagues bunched throughout the room, they believed him, too. After all, Archuleta had initially agreed to a simple interview. Though an impromptu performance was a lot more work, he happily accepted when I suggested the experiment.
As his voice rang through the room, accompanied by only a keyboardist–and, at one point, a cappella–dozens of faces lit up with wonder. A singer was giving away music, and a news organization was hosting a concert. Why was any of this happening?
A better question: Why not? The old business model is dying, both in journalism and for music. If there wasn’t room for moments like this in the past, good riddance. I can’t wait to see what else the new model will bring.”

Bliss, loved your analogy of his performances and the sunset!
Can’t wait to hear from jambajim!!
Haven’t gotten through all the videos yet, but the few I have, he’s blown me away. If he blossoms anymore he will be bigger than life. Last year’s Christmas tour performances were a quantum leap, and then this!
The crouch and leg lift at the Ha! in TOSOD, that little stroll across stage at the first “I put one foot front of the other”…in those boots!, the growl at “I might get tossed around but I’m always bouncing back”, goodness he was feeling the mojo, and PatAPan…the most dancing I have seen.
Good Place, the gorgeous pics, Forbes!
That Falalala video…how many times can you fall in love with this guy….how many times can he kill us off, how many lives do you need as a DA fan!
(the frame on the LDB video reminds me of a performer that used to wear a white towel around his neck..he was known by one name…I truly believe one day D will be too)

Bliss #46 “There is no such thing as “too much” David Archuleta.. There is only not enough.” Ain’t that the truth. I get asked why I wait for videos from new shows when I’ve been watching the same songs performed all week from other shows. I can see why it would baffle non fans but the desire is so strong to see the new videos that it completely overshadows any kind of logic except that he never performs a song the same way; there are always differences and we don’t want to miss anything new. It still sounds lame but it’s the truth.
Quiteblanc’s Good Place video is even better than the last one! How many times
have you watched it today? LOL
HeidiJoy#52 I love how David handled the little girl who said no she didn’t want to hear his poem. haha Then he called it a short story. LOL He’s so charismatic, with kids, with adults. His natural reaction and the banter that followed was charming and added greatly to the show. (Personally I think the little girl misunderstood and shook her head ‘no’, meaning she wouldn’t mind if he read a poem.)
Dak, Where are you tonight??? I agree with you 100% when you said “The little girl also gave David a valuable lesson–NO need to be self conscience –if she can let it all hang out on stage–so can he–and just let it go and be all loosey-goosey and break out those moves we know he has.” I think it worked!
Abs#65 Thanks for the mp3s and GULP….Forbes pics!
Emmegirl#76 You nailed it! “The crouch and leg lift at the Ha! in TOSOD, that little stroll across stage at the first “I put one foot front of the other”…in those boots!, the growl at “I might get tossed around but I’m always bouncing back”, goodness he was feeling the mojo, and PatAPan…the most dancing I have seen.”
I could go on, your analysis of David’s performances on this tour is spot on. He takes each song and tweaks it a bit with each performance. And people wonder why we watch repeatedly!

One more thought. After hearing everyone’s comments last week, my expectations for his concert in Cedar City were so high…and he totally blew them out of the water! TOTALLY! I’m hoping the LA show, a town where he so often is considered that shy kid form AI, had the same powerful effect and that people in the industry could see how David has grown and evolved into a true powerhouse.

David Archuleta – My Kind of Christmas Tour Review
Written By: dadmin – Dec• 12•11
When you are in the field of creativity you lose track of time. Only the flow
exists, and sometimes absorbed in the present moment.
As a musician David Archuleta decides how the feeling or interpretation will change as the song progresses. One can see the effects of a spiritual experience. His performances are ecstatic and as though he is totally immersed in prayer. He also has made certain decisions about the spirit and feeling he is trying for, but his actual moment to moment performance decisions are spontaneous. He seems to have the sense of escaping the normal experience of time.
The humility that he envelopes in the grips of such awe-inspiring aspects of creativity reveal his sensitivity to life’s spiritual qualities. Great performances involve love and love is the essential component of every spiritual experience. We hear his love for the music in his singing. He conveys to his audience his feeling of profound respect and love for the music.
Nobody leaves disappointed. David has a wonderful stage presence, interacts well with his audience and most importantly provides perfect vocals on all songs new and old. Ah yes, the songs.
He kicks off the evenings with “Sleigh Ride” and if this and “Drummer Boy” are any indication David seems to be moving in a heavier, groove oriented direction which suits him very well. The new songs were well received by his faithful fans. Other highlights of the concerts included, “MKOC-Fa La La La”, and a stirring rendition of “Ave Maria” continues to delight his loyal fans not to mention winning a new generation of fans.
He is amazing and demonstrates some new dance moves that excite the crowd. Cheers of recognition are immediate and the show is paced well. He has matured as an artist and is a dynamic performer.
The industry should stand up and take notice of the “new” David. A great show.

The “guilty” or “innocent” tabulation:
1. He decides before hand = guilty (you all knew this)
2. One can see the effects of a spiritual experience = innocent (*sigh*)
3. He is immersed in prayer = innocent (he is untouchable on this one, and we do not want him to change)
4. After deciding about the feeling his performance decisions are spontaneous = personally, I think this one gives him the ‘out’ to say he is innocent while we claim he is guilty at the same time… just sayin’. (^_^)
5. He escapes the normal experience of time = Yup. No question about that – and he takes us with him. Does that make both him and us “guilty escapees”?
6. He is sensitive to life’s spiritual qualities = okay…. innocent
7. He channels love in his singing = since this is purposeful, we can claim he is guilty, but I am not getting a whole lot of milage out of that one. (*_*)
8. He has profound respect and love for music = Ah ha! That is how he gets around it! He is just showing lots of love for music itself!
DA: I have decided that your sneaky innocence is keeping you safely packaged. At the same time, I love that you come to us as gift wrapped as you do: with all of your passion, innocence and talent.
And when we open the gift….. we find our own hearts.

107. Betsy, Thanks for that link to the the interview. I’ve never heard an interview like that from him before. He was very open about the hurt he went through and even said he wanted to give up at one point. That really broke my heart for him. I’m so glad he decided to keep moving forward. He so obviously loves being on stage and sharing his music with us, and goodness knows we love it!

I had to laugh at SB’s comment at #106…..Just came back from lunch where Christmas music was playing. Like SB, I was looking for the exit. The thought that someone actually chose to play that music instead of David is unbelievable! Sometimes a new song would start, and the notes would be a David song and I would get my hopes up BUT NO!! just another unbearable noise. I never realized there was so many poor Christmas recordings. Or perhaps they have simply deteriorated when compared to the perfection of David.

Listen the the interview that Betsy posted and one can see how discouraged he had been and how fortunate everyone is that he stayed with his music.
Haha, drink plenty of fluids. Doesn’t that help just about anything?

I am in a fog, a wonderful fog. There was not enough time, I needed more. more David, more time with ‘my compadres’ but I am so touched, and thankful, and blessed and happy. What just happened? I want to turn the clock back to Wednesday morning…
He is everything, and more.

All the best to all of you who are leaving on such a great adventure.
We will hear some wonderful stories I am certain!
Take care in your travels and perhaps you can sneak in a little hug for everyone at ‘TV’!! Or maybe not, haha !!!

Oh my! No iPod? OUCH! Have a safe trip to see David. When you get a new iPod, go to the Candy Jar and dive in 🙂 I wish you had said something sooner, I’d a ripped you some CD’s for the road.
Thank you for your kind words. We love doing this site for David and the fans.

Abrra, you are so sweet. I stayed up late last night making a couple CD’s from your candy jar. Thank you so much for having it there. Now I will have a wonderful time driving to Anaheim.
Take care everyone who is on the road or traveling today to his concerts. My prayers for safe trips all around.
I’m off putting one foot in front of the other headed to a Good Place. 😉 *Squeeeeeing all the way*

Hello!!!!
Another David day for me!!!!
Sweetonda and all who are traveling from far and wide to see Mr. Archuleta take care!!!
David sightings last night at Cha Cha’s Mexican restaraunt. This freaked me out, ten minutes from me! I receive a phone call from a coworker who by the way is going with me today, her son’s girlfriend works at Trader Joe’s in San Dimas. She gets a text from her that DAVID ARCHULETA IS IN THE STORE!!!!!
This tweet from yesterday. Looks like today is the day!
@LisaMurray I looks like we’re on track to release “Dapo & Friends Christmas” tomorrow! Who’s excited? 😛 (*raises hand)

Abrra, I was lucky Jan picked the one artist I have a motherlode of.
We are planning to have lunch on Monday before the VIP at the same place we met for MOTAB last year, The Thaifoon. Would love to see anyone there, or if you are meeting in another place or at another time please give us a shout.

Dak, LOL No rabbit hole. Just waiting/hoping for that Dapo & Friends song and news from the concert tonight.
Oh, and I have a question for any one of you who just recently saw David at VIP. >>> NO WAY does his skin actually look like THAT. Not possible for anyone’s skin to be that rosy colored and flawless. Or … Does it???
