David Archuleta’s MKOC Tour is Here!!!

Who’s feeling anxious and excited with David? Yeah, me too! His first stop on the My Kind of Christmas Tour was the last stop on his Christmas From the Heart Tour two years ago: The Theater at Westbury in Westbury, New York.
I’ve been to this venue many times and I like it because it’s different. The theatre is in the round, the stage is in the center, and the audience sits around it. It has a nice intimate feel.
I took a ride to Westbury about two weeks ago to scout the area for restaurants for before or after the show.
I found a place nearby in walking distance, in case you get there early and want to hang out or grab a bite to eat before the show. They close at 8pm.

For after the show there’s a 24/7 diner about four minutes away by car. It’s called Broadway Diner on North Broadway in Hicksville. Hope we can get a group together even for a little while, after the show.

Directions to Broadway Diner from venue: Make right out of parking lot. Go down to the light. Stay to the right. Make a right turn on North Broadway. Diner is 1/8 of a mile on left side.

Good morning. I haven’t found the words to tell all of you how much the prayers, condolences and notes that were sent to me made me feel loved and cared for. The death of my husband of 25 years was so sudden I didn’t know if I was coming or going – still don’t. This community is so much more than a fan site – it’s family. Thank you a million times for everything.
I was going to the Salt Lake concert but have canceled, so I have a ticket on the 8th row and reservations at The Plaza for Sunday and Monday nights. I will gladly send the ticket to anyone who wants one and the reservation if you need it.
Again thank all of you so much for the card and all your prayers and especially the heartfelt love. I will never forget.

I am on that flight with Mari 😉 Thanks Pilot Mari for the lift! It’s great to have fan friends to share the experience of a concert. My pilot determines where I go after the concert. LOL Some have to get back for pets and work on Friday. Now all we need is the VIP letter so we can plan a time to leave CT.
I have been busy doing some screen caps from the Behind The Scenes videos. I’ll post some later today.

I am so excited for the My Kind of Christmas tour. After seeing David again at the signing I am even more “on top of the world”!. He has certainly got me in the mood for Christmas. I never put my decorations up till the middle of Dec but they are just about all up now. Yay!
I first start “my kind of Christmas tour” by meeting my friend Linda C. in Cedar City on Dec. 10th then enjoy the SLC concert with my husband and neighbors plus meeting many of my David friends. What a treat. I wish all of Davids fans could experience My Kind Of Christmas this year.
Here’s wishing all of you a wonderful Dec and then a wonderful year ahead with many more David gatherings!

Bebe and gang…I woke like a kid at Christmas today myself…who cannot contain her excitement for this week, and yet wants it to all go by slowly, so it’s not OVER too soon!!
I am so excited; I will be at Westbury too and cannot wait (I too love that venue, and haven’t been in years)…hoping to see some of you. I am coming from CT too (you mean there ARE some of you here?!…or
maybe you’re just passing through.) I’ll be coming up with the bf,
but he’s passing on the show (silly man)…so if anyone knows anyone who wants to be there and can stand sitting next to a uber gleeful adult female, I have a 13th row seat, I think section C (I still have to print the tix!!) Then on to PA and meet up with a DApal there.
Anyhoo, just needed some peeps to Squee with today, and I just knew when I came here we’d all be on the same page.

Now here are the instructions to all you so very lucky concert attendees.
No excuses will be accepted.– Buy a note pad and sharpen up your pencils ( NO lip liner), so you can take notes about anything you see or hear or even smell — before–during–and after the concert, because he has been known to rattle brains to the extent of total forgetfulness—complete blackout——-total unrecall!!
Somebody bring a recorder ( small tape recorder will do, maybe your phones do this–what do I know? )–and tape some of the spazzing between fans at your get togethers. 8) Interesting for chat………..cause what happens in chat -stays in chat.
Don’t forget to turn around at some point and get some video or pictures of the stunned audience.
Abs—because you are only going to be an observer at the VIP- ( I think) I will expect a lot to be written by you, unless you go blind–because you stared at him too long.

I walked into the house from work, turned on the tv the second I got in at 4:15, and there he was, singing, bigger than life.
It’s been too long since we could turn on the tv and see/hear him.
HE SOUNDED AND LOOKED BEAUTIFUL. That TBWY about killed me.
My husband turned to me and said “Mini Elvis”.(I have never ever mentioned any Elvis reference to him, I wouldn’t. Maybe it’s the age difference between us)
He also wanted David to sing every song, lol. Me too.

I recorded the ice show and will watch it shortly. I did watch TBWY per Karin’s vid and it was breath-taking! I have a hard time watching him on TV. Brings back anxiety deja vu AI. So I just record it and watch when I hear everything went well.
Packing now for Westbury and points beyond! I have just 2 days more to work and then leaving on Wednesday around noon! Gaaaaaahh!!! I don’t know what I’m doing.

David was once again magnificent! His vocals are beyond amazing and as I listened to him today, I was taken back to 2008 when we all knew he was special and would continue to bring thrills & chills with each & every performance. He has not and never has disappointed. There are almost no words to express the wonder David is. He is The Voice.
The last song he sang, Above The Northern Lights is my new favorite Christmas song. It’s a beautiful song to be sure, but David added another dimension with his superb vocals. He made it truly soul-stirring, spell-binding and stunning.
And of course, the camera loves him. His beauty shines through the TV screen and his eyes sparkles like diamonds. He is, quite simply, a beautiful man.

Brian Boitano has always been one of my favorite skaters…Mannheim was awesome all the way through…loved the different songs and takes on traditional songs…oh yea…and then there was that young guy from Idol, Season 7! 🙂
David, David….Class act. Gentleman all the way. Mr. Man, in his sharp-dressed wool jacket seemed a tad serious to me tonight…studied, precise. Loved him playing piano on TBWY (duh, Abrra, no wonder “snow” stuck out to me!) WCIT opening was beautiful…my favorite Christmas song. That different song he sang, I already forgot the name, but the “High above” one…was heavenly. The Silent Night humming…hard to hear just him (unusual) but loved the overall effect. And always…love Pat-A-Pan. Nice show!
Abrra… #16..Emergency Broadcast System?!! The world better be ENDING if they ever do that to me. No, even then…I’d want to be hearing David, uninterrupted, before we all went down!

What Child is This was so warm and chilling at the same time. I think the skating performances to these two songs were excellent and a beautiful accompaniment to what he achieved: Perfection.

I have been out of commission for over three weeks now (side effects from radiation) and have not been on the computer until tonight. Shawna had told me about you losing your husband and I have felt so sad about it. I LOVED getting to know you in Arizona at the Constitution Fair and getting to spend so much time with you. I was hoping to see you in SLC but now I will just look forward to another time. I send you my deepest love at this time.
Coming here tonight and watching all of these videos of David has me quite emotional as I have missed all things David and being here with all of you. Like Theresa said, we are now FAMILY and it is so heartwarming to feel each other’s love all the time.
My husband’s brother passed away and his funeral was yesterday. Our cousin Ron Gunnell (who has been with David all week at his interviews and signings) was at the funeral and we talked about David for quite a while. Ron admires David so much and always tells me how much he is loved by everyone (as if I didn’t already know.) He promised me that he would take me back stage to be with David after the show at Abravanal Hall. We’ll see what happens. Ron went to his car and brought in a bunch of Glad Christmas Tidings DVD’s to pass out to family members. He is so generous that way and the family was thrilled to receive one.
A belated Happy Thanksgiving to each of you—-hope you all counted your blessings, as we did.

Holiday on Ice was blacked out here in KC because of the football game. Good thing there is youtube!! He was stupendous, as usual!! Love Above the Northern Lights with David singing it…it was beautiful!!! The will be a rerun on Ovation tv channel 274 on Direct tv on Dec 3rd at 7pm. Gotta WAIT another week now to watch the whole thing!!

Amb4da mentioned how serious David was on tonight’s show. Maybe but I saw it as a more mature David, acting very much a 21 year old or even a 25 year old and a well-seasoned performer.
Like Silverfox I’ve become a fan of “Above the Northern Lights”. I was in the other room when the song started so I heard David before seeing him on screen. Not realizing it was him in his lower register, I thought hmmm that voice is beautiful! LOL Of course it was David; nobody else affects me that way.

I will be at the Ventura concert on the 16th. I am going with my daughter who has to work that day from 8 a.m. to 7pm. Then we have to hope she doesn’t have any emergencies (she is a vet). David Archuleta: the Eagle, the temple and the music

Polishing off a turkey sandwich during an interview, Archuleta described how honored he was to be invited to sing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir he grew up admiring.
“It was an out-of-this-world experience,” Archuleta said. “Taking it in, singing, being there … It was cool.”
December 2010 is also special to Archuleta for another reason. It was last year, in between concert rehearsals with the choir, that the young Mormon celebrity received his Eagle Scout Award.
“I am so happy I did it,” Archuleta said. “I was far from the best Scout when I started. I wasn’t motivated at all, but … then I came back and got it. I was really happy I did.”
Archuleta credits his Murray neighbor and former Scout leader, Cal Madsen, for encouraging and helping him to attain the highest rank for a young man in the Boy Scouts of America program.
“I paid him to say that,” Madsen said with a laugh. “It’s a real credit to him. His dad also encouraged him. Archuleta took it upon himself to finish it. It was something he always wanted to do, but with his music and competitions, he didn’t think he would get there. But he followed up and worked hard enough to finish it.”

Like most everybody, David Archuleta will be home for Christmas no matter how busy he is.
“Christmas is better spent with the family,” David confessed during an exclusive 15-minute phone interview with Funfare in connection with the Glad Christmas Tidings album (released locally by Ivory Music & Video) which was recorded as live during a series of concerts with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in December last
year at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, with Michael York as special guest. “That’s why I make it a point to drop everything and be with my folks during the holiday season. It’s a family tradition, you know.”
Bells of Temple Square were also at the concerts that, according to the Music & Video background material, “gloried in the old-time pioneer Christmases of centuries past, thrilling a combined audience of more than 80,000” in the Conference Center at temple Square. The event brought the audience back to yesteryear when the season “evoked the glow of candles and log fires, the smell of fir trees and the frosty wideness of star-filled winter skies.”
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir performs While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks, Away In A Manger, and majestic choruses by Mozart and Vaughn Williams, and closes with a breath-taking rendition of Angels, from the Realms of Glory. (Michael York narrates an account of John Parry, a Welshman who as both a mason and a musician played an important role in the beginnings of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.)
David is the youngest singer to have headlined the choir’s holiday concert, joining award-winning performers in the honor roll including Natalie Cole, Angela Lansbury, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Audra McDonald and Bryn Terfel.
Excerpts from our exclusive interview (with David who was at the historic Tabernacle on Temple Square in Salt Lake City where they were pre-taping Joy To The World for the tour):
How was it working with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir?
“It was an amazing experience. Every night, there were more than 21,000 people in the audience. The whole choir was just really BIG! It was one of the best performances I ever had in my life.”
You and the choir will be featured in a TV special, right? It’s going to be shown throughout the US this month. Tell me about the TV special.
“People who won’t be able to watch it on TV don’t have to worry because if they buy the CD, it comes with a DVD of the TV special which will make them feel as if they were at the actual concert.”
Did you have a hand in choosing the songs for the album?
“I sang five songs in the whole event. One of them is Los Pastores a Belen. I sang the song in Spanish because I wanted to show my Latino heritage. The four other songs, with new arrangements, were Silent Night and The Cat and the Mouse Carol which I did solo; and Joy To The World and Gesu Bambino which I sang with the choir.”
As a kid, what was your favorite Christmas song?
“Silent Night. I just love Silent Night.”
Do you spend Christmas now in a different way from how you did when you were not yet famous?
“You know, these past few years I’ve been too busy working and travelling but as in the past, I make sure that I’m home for Christmas.” (Proceeds to sing I’ll Be Home For Christmas). “There’s nothing more meaningful than spending Christmas with your family.” (And then he sings again, “I’ll be home for the holidays…”)
How do you spend Christmas?
“We usually go to my grandpa’s house. We have family picture. That’s some kind of a family tradition. We have some kind of a talent show where members of the family compete against each other. Then we exchange stories. It’s fun getting the family together. That’s why I love Christmas.”
What’s your most memorable Christmas?
“I think it was last year. We had a lot of relatives visiting from out of town, from all over the US. They came to watch the Mormon Tabernacle Choir concert and then they stayed for Christmas.”
What’s the most memorable Christmas gift that you’ve received in all your life?
“When I was a kid, my aunt gave me a computer game. I really loved it! I remember how much fun I had playing the game.”
Are you expecting any special gift from anybody this Christmas?
“Uhm, I’m not really expecting anything. It’s usually I who give gifts. I can’t think of anything that I want. I’m happy with what I have.”
And what you have is so many, so much.
“You know, when the fans give me presents, they really give a lot. Hehehehe!”
What gift are you preparing for your special someone, if you have any?
“Actually, I’m not very keen about giving gifts. But I’ll try to look for something that I can give to my sisters and my brother.”
What about Charice, your friend? Aren‘t you giving her something this Christmas?
“I haven’t given gifts to my friends before. More than giving gifts, I usually pay them a visit. For me, the best gift is when you go visit someone. Either it’s I visiting my friends or it’s them visiting me.”

Betsy#89 Thanks for posting the link to another great interview by Brian Mansfield of USA Today. David sounds in charge even though he’s not with a label. Since the traditional way doesn’t always work, he’s trying something else. Releasing singles might very well be the way to go for young musicians who have to put up with a crazy record business. He’s not the first artist who is going this route.

For Archuleta, was a dream come true. Whenever you need to think and find himself or be inspired, hear the Tabernacle Choir. I listen every Sunday and while preparing to go to Temple.

What is Christmas?
It is the best time of year. It is time to remember the birth of Christ and celebrate the gift of life given to us.
During this time of year, everyone will feel good and I think that is the spirit of gratitude in the air. All feel. We all want to give the best of ourselves. We all want to show our love for others. There is no other festival like this all year. It is the time of year I enjoy most.
What are you doing for Christmas?
Usually the family way. I visit my father and have dinner with them, play, sing, talk about the birth of Jesus Christ and try to have a good time.
With my mother, usually eat something typical, dance, sing, play, dedicate time to my family.
I take this time to relax, get closer to my younger brothers, talk and play games with them.
Also, I meditate a lot about the blessings I’ve received in my life and what I am expected to do with my talents.
What do you think about the family?
The family is the most valuable thing I have in my life. I think it is no coincidence that we have been born within a particular family.
Knowing that I have brothers and sisters who have my same genes, the same blood, which are part of my life is wonderful. They are beings who for some reason, had to be part of me.
I have a very good relationship with my brothers, but are very different from each other. We all grew up with the same teachings, with the same heritage, grew up in the same house together.
I think one of the reasons why we are so united, it is because we have each other.
Now I’m living away from them, I realized that they form a large part of my life and have influenced me in so many ways.
Like big brother, I feel a great responsibility to my brothers, of always being there when I need and be someone they can trust.
What are your immediate plans in their career?
One of the things I most want to do is be involved in a more directly with the Hispanic community.
I love the Hispanic culture and I owe him great things. I want to sing more in Spanish, as well as to write some of my songs
I would love to start a tour dedicated to Hispanics and visiting Spanish speaking countries. This is another of my dreams that I very soon reached.
I write and perform more inspirational music to help people feel special and that no matter what is around him, may feel that they are different and valuable.

Getting ready for My Kind Of Christmas in NY!
Just some last minute details…like packing! I’m just going around in circles like this is the first time I’ve ever done this?!
I was asked if David knows what extensive planning some fans go through to see him perform in concert. My answer was if he did, he would shake his head & wonder WHY? Why would anyone go through all this just to see him sing?
Anyone care to answer WHY?
I do it because even though it can be time consuming and costly, it keeps me young at heart and gives me something to look forward to. And hearing & seeing David perform LIVE is so rewarding and fills me with unspeakable joy. But I can’t say I enjoy when the euphoria starts to wane & I feel the unexplainable sadness that creeps in when I’m on my way home wondering when or IF I’ll ever see HIM perform LIVE again. It happens every time. Is it worth it? OH MY, A THOUSAND TIMES, YES!

Yes I know…crazy! But we aren’t the only ones! There may be a caravan of cars doing the same thing!

The shows will center around Archuleta’s Christmas music, of course, but with an updated songlist. Besides doing numbers from his 2009 holiday album, he’ll also perform a few of the six songs on which he was featured on the recently released Glad Christmas Tidings, the latest album by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He will also perform a few new songs as well, including “My Kind of Christmas,” a song he co-wrote in response to a fan’s suggestion (derived from the title of the song “My Kind of Perfect,” a track on Archuleta’s last album, The Other Side Of Down).”

The view of New York from the plane at night was just a glorious blaze of gold and white lit glory laid out to every horizon. Then Manhattan came into view with all that brilliance piled up high like a city of crystal palaces! I tell ya it was breath-taking! Been to NY once before but never at night and never from a plane. Going down to get something from the restaurant while that interview up there loads. 😛 I may need fortifying. Waiting for FG and Marciami to arrive in a couple of hours and all heck to break loose!!! Will definitely need fortifying. lol.

I was in Deseret Book today, and BOY, were they featuring our BOY! I was so happy because a few weeks ago, I had to search high and low to find the DVD…and today, you could not miss it!! It was
practically wallpapering the front window, it was playing on three screens as you entered, and was being piped throughout the store, not to mention a large display front and center with yes, a life size cut-out of the man!…not in his tux, but actually in the outfit from the LDS Living article…the one with the red shirt and dark jacket. Haha, it was so life-like that the archugaze had me go blank for a few moments!
