Skate for the Heart

Holiday music is the theme for this Saturday’s Pandora Unforgettable Moments on Ice event. David is the special guest singer and will sing a Christmas song or two while ice skaters perform. Joining David on the bill is the popular group of musicians, Manheim Steamroller, known primarily for their modern recordings of Christmas music. The show will be hosted by Kristi Yamaguchi, with the skating side of the event led by Brian Boitano and two-time Olympic champion Ekaterina Gordeeva. The show will be taped on Saturday, November 12, at 7:00 p.m. at Grand Canyon University Arena in Phoenix, AZ.  NBC will broadcast the show on Sunday, November 27, from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. EST.

No stranger to ice skating shows, David has lent his voice to the  Kaleidoscope series…

and has participated in Skate For The Heart as well.

This year David shares Pandora’s stage with innovative musical ensemble Manheim Steamroller. Watch their eye and ear pleasing rendition “Carol of the Bells”:

I just finished catching up on as much as I could about everything that went on the last two weeks while I was out of the loop. Thanks to SandyBeaches I was being kept up to date on the really important news, even though I was kind of “out of it” this last week.

First, I would like to thank everyone for the very beautiful group sympathy card for my sister “Hooked” for the loss of her husband of 25 years. The messages were truly heartfelt and I know, very special to my sister. She is a very special and caring lady and I love her so very much. I was able to be there for her during one of the hardest weeks of her life. She is still in the throes of grief and disbelief and yet is so strong, doing what needs to be done. She was deeply loved by her husband, is loved beyond measure by her 2 daughters & 2 grandsons, her siblings, nieces, nephews and so many friends I had the pleasure of meeting while there. My regret is that I hoped to be there for her for more than that first week, but sometimes things happen in the most unexpected ways. SHE was the one who had to be there for me this last week and she was, putting aside her grief to make sure I was taken care of. THAT is who my sister is and why I love her so very much.

I’m home now. I had a scare. But that is a story for another time. I just wanted to come here tonight to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for thinking of and expressing your messages so beautifully to my sis. She will respond in her own words when the hurt in her heart is not so raw. Just know we both love you all!

ps…what can I say about David other than he is a wonderful, fantastic, magnificent and quite an amazing human being and continues to be more so with every appearance.

(((hugs to SB…for always being there for me)))

I blame Abrra’s phone for any typos. 😉

I think David and MS is a good combination for this year’s PUMonI.
Can’t wait to see the videos and the whole show later this month. Would love to go see it, but I’d have to win the lottery to follow David all over! But, I would, if I did…whatever…you know what I mean…I think!!!

And for all the anniversary wishes, dear friends. We appreciate the accolades and hope to be around for David for a looong time.

HAPPY VETERANS DAY!!! Thank you to all the veterans who have served our country and to the men and women who continue to serve our country so that we may live in peace.

Today, 11/11/11 marks the three year anniversary that David released his first self-titled album. The album debuted at the number-two spot on the Billboard 200 chart, with sales of 183,000 copies in the United States. As of January 2011 the album has sold 764,000 copies in the United States. WTG David!!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Philippines. Apparently, you can kiss David under the mistletoe.

ADORABLE! I remember seeing a life-size figure of Hulk Hogan on the boardwalk of the Jersey Shore about ohhh twenty years ago. We all stopped to feel how strong his biceps were as we smiled for the camera.
Move over, HH, DJA has arrived! LOL

Many thanks to all the men and women who have served, who have helped to protect us and give us the freedoms we enjoy today,

    Bebe & Abrra,
Thanks for the Pandora’s Post and info. I hope we have some lovely Archies with cameras at the ready! Don’t know which songs he’ll sing, but …. Christmas Music and David’s voice, what a beautiful combination. It’s a “cant miss” no matter the song choice. 🙂

That pic is too adorable. Love all the little Davids under the tree, too.

This is a very special place – always has been, and always will be. Thanks to the admins & staff writers & Angelica for all you do. It is very appreciated and important to a lot of people. Hugs to all who read and lurk here!

Happy Veterans Day, everyone. My dad was in the Seabees in WW2 in Okinawa and Hawaii. And back in the days of drafts, my late husband was drafted twice…served 18 months in Germany at the beginning of Viet Nam. Then, was drafted again by Pres. Kennedy because of the Cuban Crisis. We served another 1 yr. in Alabama.

I am hoping for Silent Night and maybe even a song with the Manheim Steamroller musicians. I picked that last video of theirs for the enchanting staging behind them as well as the music.

Thank you for your support for the site. We realize that being a fan site is a responsibility. With so many sites for fans to visit, we know we are on the right track by the amount of commenters and (shy readers 😉 ) who come here daily to respond.

I grew up in the last days of the draft. Interesting times, indeed. My dream is to be standing at the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC on Veterans day. I want to also witness the dedication ceremony to the unknown soldier, who represents all those who fought and died so that we can be in a free country.

The video in #3 is by nareejo who interviewed David in Manila. She has written some background on how the interview came about in her blog, chordsofd the music of my life.

    Here is an excerpt:

    An interview that never was

Can words ever express how one feels when a dream comes true?

Can one ever prepare oneself to meet THE ARCHULETA?

“Numb” is a word that comes to mind! ..and “scared”… lol

I had so many things going on at that time, that I really had no time to think about it.. or maybe I didn’t want to think about it because I would freak out! But I seemed to be spazzing in my subconsciousness and dreams and I would wake up in a panic! What am I going to say to him? ??? I had to prepare!

I have listened to so many interviews that ask nonsensical, repetitive, embarrassing, weird questions that he must be tired of answering and do not bring out the person that he is. I vowed that I would ask intelligent , insightful and meaningful questions worthy of his intelligence….

I served 7 years as a nurse in the army, stateside and two tours in Germany, one in a mash unit for the highly decorated 3rd Infantry Division. Some of the best times and folks I have ever known.

Just watched the interview with Naree. She asked just the right questions and was so poised in his presence. I’m impressed! Looking forward to hearing that MJ song he’s working on. MKOC tour set list pretty please?

Thanks to everyone who took the time to wish The Voice a happy 2 year anniversary. I work with the best admins in the world who I can honestly say I love and consider dear, close friends. I met Patty in SLC and AZ and now in a few short weeks, I will get to finally meet Abrra and Bebe! I think I’m as excited about that as seeing David again! Thanks to all the staff writers who share their talent with us and put up with my faults. I am an imperfect being but I truly try to do the right thing, though sometimes I fail. I hope you all know how much you are appreciated. Thanks to all who read and comment or just read. This is a labor of love but it IS a labor that has a cost. I would do it all again and gladly because he, and all of you, are so worth it. You add so much joy to my life just by being here and, for the love of David, sharing your hopes, your anxieties, your humor, your talents, and most of all, your hearts.

I can’t wait for the Pandora special to be broadcast…I’m with you Abrra, Silent Night with MS would be awesome…more like heart-stopping!

    Oh Angelica,

The feeling is mutual, my dear. You created a warm loving place for us to come and share our hopes, thoughts and dreams for an amazing young artist. But we got so much more; an opportunity to meet other fans from across the globe right here on this site. It doesn’t matter how many miles are between us or what language we speak; the tie that binds us together is so strong.

On this Veteran’s Day, I respect and applaud you for the service you have done for this country.

Jans11. My Dad was a WWII Veteran too, and was stationed in France and Corsica, an island off the coast of Italy in the Mediterranean Sea.

Hey MT, Whatever Christmas song David comes up with to sing at the Pandora event will be just the right song. He has a knack for figuring out what works, another sign of his genius. 🙂

Been playing David’s first album today.
What a beautiful voice he has…but you already know that. LOL

I knew you were a nurse, but didn’t know you had served in the military. I never did, but my husband of 26 years is one of the ones who was on the front lines and injured in combat. So, I have a great appreciation for all of those who have served to help keep our country free and safe, and for those who help care for the wounded. Thank you. ♥

Wishing a belated Happy 2nd Anniversary to The Voice with a haiku poem:

    Grateful to this site,
    Celebrating The Voice which,
    Inspires and gives joy!

Nareejo; #3 video … You did such a great job … really wanted the interview to go on as David seemed so engaged and relaxed.

Jans; It’s wonderful to hear of your work in the nursing home. Sometimes just the time one takes to listen, to talk or share music can bring a moment of joy.

SF; There is such a special bond that you have with your sister … thank you for sharing and glad that you are safely home.

Pocoelsy; I recently thought of you as one of the students shared the horrible plight of his family in Thailand related to the devastating floods … sending prayers and hopes for better days ahead.

Happy Veteran’s Day! It’s a privilege to work with veterans so thank you to Angelica, to all who’ve served and are continuing to serve our country.

Finally, Happy 3rd Anniversary to David’s 1st album! Sad to have missed its inception but so glad to be here for the journey ahead!

A big THANKS to our vets (Angelica) and those still serving–my son served in Iraq and Croatia and is still at it -stationed in New Mexico.

Hope some ninjas are in the audience tomorrow night–I think David said in that AZ interview that they were trying to work something out to do with MS ( I’m to lazy to go look it up) 😉

In the video #59, David says he is drawn to the music of the 60’s & 70’s. I agree with what he says about it being a more free time in music. The people he mentioned were songwriting icons of that era. Knowing that David reads liner notes,he had to see how influential Carole King was as a songwriter as well as a performer.

Bebe love the profile of David 🙂

Came here this morning in hopes of some videos from last night. instead of disappointment I found those glittering jewels at #51 and #52 Betsy had brought to us last night. I thought of the billions of images available through the internet to fill my screen and I choose David. Thank you Betsy, and to all who make these things possible.

Somehow I think this is what David had in mind when he wrote Something ‘Bout Love. These brothers are definitely fans!

    Hi everyone,

Okay, I’m not a great writer but here’s a few words about last nights performance. David was absolutely wonderful and pitch perfect! He actually sang 4 songs with What Child Is This being the first performance of the night. MS played David’s arrangement. It was fantastic! If I’m not mistaking, he only sang once in the first half and I was wondering if that was it…WHAT? NO MORE DAVID? UGH! But the second half made up for it quickly. MS did their version of Silent Night and David did the ooh’s and awww’s with Chip David. Beautiful low voice range. They sound great together. Next time he came out and sang Pat-a-pan and then went to the piano and sang To Be With You, with Rachel Flatt skating to it. There was a music glitch in there somewhere and all you heard was David playing and singing, so they did a retake after and it was perfect! So lucky to hear him sing it twice. When he hit the high sustained note on “way” my mom turned to me and said, WOW! This is the first time she’s heard him live. The last song he sang was one of MS songs that I was not familiar with, but it was soft and sweet and AMAZING! Sorry I don’t remember the name. David had me mesmerized!

It was a wonderful night and you all have to watch it on the 27th! I just hope they edit all of David’s songs in. He was perfect! He did his little waves after every song and let me tell you, the crowd went crazy whenever he came out!

I didn’t have a video camera but I saw lots of people taking video, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that some show up soon,

Here is the song list from last night reported here:

Not sure what to make of this review in the above link. Local reporter Serene Dominic sure doesn’t play any favorites. That’s about all I can say.

    1. “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”

    2. “What Child is This?” with David Archuleta

    3. “Deck the Halls”

    4. “The Holly and the Ivy”

    5. “White Christmas”

    6. “The Little Drummer Boy”

    7. “O Holy Night”

    8. “Carol of the Bells”

    9. “Silent Night” with David Archuleta and Chip Davis

    10. “Angels We Have Heard On High”

    11. “Patapan” with David Archuleta

    12. “To Be With You” with David Archuleta

    12. “Messengers of Christmas”

    13. “Winter Wonderland”

    14. “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”

    15. “Faeries (Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairies)”

    16. “Above The Northern Lights” with David Archuleta

    17. “Amoure C’est Domine”

    18. “Joy to the World”

#63 re #58 – Yes, I noticed that right off. The body language thing. 🙂 The turning in instead of turning out, the closeness.

Dayzee, I was stuck in the CFTH vortex last night. ♥

Sweet, thanks for taking the time to recap. This gives me video hope. 🙂

I’m loving all the Archuleta Philippines goodies from the GCT launch. So much fun! They sure know how to do it up right!
Cute, cute video of the two little boys, Abrra. Having had two little boys myself, I know how precious those moments are and you’re right, I’m sure David did have just that kind of moment in mind for “Something Bout Love” and those two little boys “get it”. 🙂
SweetonDA: Thank you so much for that review of the Pandora Unforgettable Moments on Ice 2011 from last night. We needed that review! Looking forward to the program Nov. 27th. Did David sing Pat-A-Pan with MS or with a track? Was there backing music to TBWY or just piano?
Happy 2nd Anniversary again to “The Voice”!

  80. emmegirl said

You guys are so good, how did I miss that! Here I was looking at the grin on the guys’ face in the background, duh.

I thought the write up was his perception that this was a skating audience, and that the production was geared more toward acknowledging the skaters and not so much the musicians. The entire review was a bit odd.

  81. angelofdja said

Just a teaser! David comes in around the 1:10 mark

  82. Bluebird, he had backing track with Pat-a-pan, but MS was also playing. With TBWY their keyboardist sang the duet part with him and there was backtrack too.

I was hoping he would sing a new song, so when he sang with them, Above the Northern Lights, I was just so excited I did’t even watch the skater. I don’t even remember who it was, one of the girls I think. David sang beautifully. I noticed he would watch the conductor for his cues to come in. It’s a good think I’ll be able to watch it again on the 27th to see what I missed.

As far as that review goes, I don’t know what he was listening to or seeing, but David was not relegated to background music. He was widely acknowledged whenever he came out on the stage with loud applause, much more than MS got IMO. Many were watching DA and not the skater. Practically every time DA left the stage there were girls screaming I love you’s to him. Maybe the reporter was put off by David’s humbleness, you know how he never brings attention to himself? He would give a little wave, turn and clap for the band, clap for the skater and quietly walk off through all the applause. Overshadowed?…no way!

Loved the interview in #59. So relaxed as he answers the questions and embraces the language, accent and all at the end of the video. I wish I knew what he was saying, though. Maybe one of our Filipino fans could translate?

SweetonDA#72 Thanks for being so generous with the details of last night’s show. I too hope they edit in all of David’s songs. I’m particularly anxious to see/hear “To Be With You” with ice skaters around him. You lucky girl, you!!! 🙂

#87 TEASER! What song was David singing in his low register? THUD!

From CFTH tour but just uploaded to youtube! Love the banter at the end.
    “The Riddle” from Kansas City.

“Christmas From The Heart tour in Kansas City Dec. 8, 2009. I did not have a great view but it’s a new view, and I finally thought to lower my camera, it’s fun to watch his feet. Haha”

Dang—Thought if I waited long enough to check in there would be a lot of video of last nite—wrong!! I do appreciate what there is tho. And the pictures………♥♥♥♥♥♥

Sweetonda–thanks so much for your re-cap—got me all excited to see more video and the TV broadcast—one note –they should have told him to bring his tux– all the band members are wearing them –and the lady in her gown. On second thought it probably would have been to much for the audience to bear. GAH The ice would have melted!!

  90. MT said

Bebe, I believe the song is Above the Northern Lights with/by Mannheim Steamroller. Isn’t it the most beautiful 41 seconds? His voice is just jaw-droppingly gorgeous right there.

I can’t wait to hear the rest of it! I hope a full video turns up. Two weeks seems like a very long time right now.

  91. Angelica said

Thanks so much for the recap! I will for sure be taping this show. David, Mannheim Steamroller, Ice skating, 18 Christmas songs, what’s not to love?

Well, I’m not a fan of his choice of clothes next to Manheim Steamroller in their tuxes and the lovely lady at the keyboard behind him in the gorgeous décolleté gown. Not saying he should have worn a tux but something like the lead pic for this post from the Cleveland “Skate for the Heart” show would have been better for a nationally televised show. He seemed both over-dressed in his coat and scarf next to the lady with the bare shoulders and under-dressed for the occasion.

#87 MT thanks for the find. Gorgeous.

Bebe, I love that those new/old videos were uploaded. I’ve been watching all day. 🙂 Love the Riddle and was especially drawn to Ave Maria. That song is so special.

@OhAngelica Nicely done Angelica! Was very impressed with how nicely your images fit the tune. Thanks!

I made mp3’s of the 2 songs so far. Of course one is a clip, but I will replace with a full song if we get one. I did some surgery on the long video and got a nice Pat A Pan.

#93Yes all this music is indeed making me anxious for MKOP Tour. I leave for SLC in 4 weeks, 5 days and 12 hrs…but, who’s counting!! lol

#97 The funny thing about it, wherever he goes, I go with him and I still don’t know where that is! Maybe a little taste of Heaven is all I know!
