My Kind of Cover ~ David Archuleta

I had never heard of Nico Vega, the band who opened for Blondie at the concert David recently attended at the Nokia in Los Angeles. But I’m enjoying their music on YouTube. When David says a band is awesome, I check it out because I usually agree with him and I’m rather fussy in my taste in music. Once in a while I enjoy the music of other artists, but it’s always temporary. My heart leads me back to what I love the most.
I feel very fortunate that David seems to be fascinated with music from my era, the eighties and nineties, because during that time I was a music junkie and followed the careers of many artists. I wasn’t obsessively stuck on one like I am now. 😉
On the Christmas From The Heart Tour, David covered “The Riddle” and “Fields of Gold” two of my favorites.
Salt Lake City/First Night of CFTH Tour! The Riddle is so Archuleta; it’s as if this song was written for him! It’s a pure message song.

It didn’t take long for these two cover songs to become fan favorites for those who had never heard of them before! I just know David is cooking up some more beauties like these. There’s a new cover or two up his sleeve for the My Kind Of Christmas Tour, especially if the four songs on the Asian Tour Edition of TOSOD don’t get released in the U.S. by that time.
What would I like him to cover? Let me count the songs. Here’s a start:

Ho, ho, ho, Angelica! I am going to have to admit that I had never heard that song. So I listened to it on YT. Nice. Not sure many would survive him singing that style of song. Though I did think the “troll” in the vid added added a lot to the fun!
Bebereader: “Have I told you lately”! Great, great Rod S. song! No one quite like that style singing now. Now why do we seem to love the thought of him singing deep, serious, pull-your-heart-out-and-throw-it-at-my-feet, songs?

So many songs I’d like to hear David sing…The Riddle was definitely one of my faves from CFTH tour…I was also in the front row, in front of his mic for that show…I was memorized by The Riddle..ok every song that night! Still would love to hear Someone Like You by Adele…

Angelica…love your genius plan, sounds like how my crazy(for David)mind would work…too funny…actually now that I think of it…before David..that was the song I’d play on rotation the most at Christmas, and have thought before he’d KILL it. Been played a lot though….and David loves to dig and surprise us with the more “obscure”, much to our enjoyment.
I still love The Riddle (which I’d never known before DA) and FOG. Also loved his version and that he closed the CFTH show with Feliz Navidad…to be able to breathe life in that old “addictive tune” was something only David could do! Come to think of it…guess he could do that with AIWFC too.
So…will have to let this sit with me a while see what song comes up…I’m sure I’ve had several over time, usually while hearing the song, then thinking, “love to hear David sing this”…I think for Christmas tour, whatever he chooses will be in keeping with the tone of the season, holiday, even if not a “Christmas” tune…his instincts are beyond spot on. I get all shaky just thinking about what’s to come…:)

ps. aw..just listened to that Riddle above…”I love you free, I love you freelyyyy” that line, the way he sings it melts my heart every time, and that smile at the end…I think someone said it best on a YouTube comment I read recently, on one of David’s videos..”Everytime David Archuleta smiles there is world peace.”

Bebe♥ Love your post this morning! There are so many songs that I would love to hear David cover. I loved FOG and The Riddle. In your favs, you mentioned “The Prayer”. I love that song, and David singing it would be amazing beyond words.Man…I will have to ponder a little bit more on other favorite picks 🙂
and Angelica, if David were to sing “All I want for Christmas is You” all the women in the audience would not EVEN survive There would be nothing but little pools of butter left in the seats once opccupied by female fans. (oooh, can you imagine him pointing that finger at someone?? eeeeeeek!

So funny Bebe.. when I first read the comment under the “Fields of Gold” video you posted with someone’s thoughts of how that performance made them feel from the front row ..I said to myself’ “that’s exactly how I felt too” & then saw my YouTube user name follow..lol ~ no doubt it..what a memory indeed! ♥ Not sure I’ll ever be the same after that night.
Loved your article & made me realize once again that there are so few songs I hear that I don’t try to imagine David’s voice to the lyrics…and let’s face it~once he covers one~he simply owns it..case in point “Apologize”..who wants to hear the original now? Not me…never! ~and one more I have to mention ~ “When You Say You Love Me”…good grief..speechless!
My first choice for a cover at Tour is “The Prayer”..one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard & carries a moving message…for every day of the year. Also would love to hear David sing “Someone Like You”…was so bummed when he was ready to sing it in Asia & got interrupted. I think he knows how disappointed we were & may be giving serious consideration to treating his fans to this lovely song. I’m bracing myself ’cause I know it’s going to cause me to forget to breathe! There are so many other songs I’d love to hear him sing..the list is endless! 🙂

I have to correct you Skydancer, I would like an owl, with eyes fixed and static, unblinking and with all my feathers scattered on the floor.
Someone said, it would be interesting to see what would happen in a vip, between David and me. I also ask myself that question.

Because we got a lot of emails asking if we know if David is going to be adding dates to his My Kind of Christmas Tour, we asked the source, his Official Site and we received a lovelyyyy response. We were told, “More dates to be announced.” is the official position, and that they promise to post any information as soon as they have it. To me that means: be it good news (meaning more dates) or not-so-good news (meaning no more dates), as soon as the OS has the info, they will share it immediately.
So I think we just sorta have to chill, keep our fingers crossed, and wait. Hang in there, everyone!

You know, the more I look at that poll, I find myself almost hoping “Don’t Make Me Get Medieval on You” wins. Bahahah! Can you imagine him singing a song by that title written by say, Eminem? Tearing up the stage with some quasi-rap soulful groovitude, growls, THE HOWL, and a whole lotta swagga and holla? There I go scaring myself again. 😆

David needs to sing Wait live like real soon. Was listening to it on the computer last weekend. My youngest daughter heard it. She practically pushed me out of the chair: “I love that song, what is it?!” and proceeded to put it in her Zune after I told her I had the TOSOD AIM. Yeah. I had been greedy and had kept it to myself all this time. But now she knows and she’s spazzing over David-again. Ha ha.

LuvieD sent me this pic she took while shopping at Ross the other day. She SOL! (squeed out loud) and would have bought a pair but they didn’t come in her size.
Speaking of squee and LuvieD, aka my directionally-impaired concert buddy, she finally found her boarding pass in the bottom of her luggage from our flight to AZ where she had written the word “SQUEEE!!” Only she didn’t have a pen and had to use lip liner to write while in a state of acute fanticipation! She planned to show it to me on the plan when she passed me on her way to her seat. All you can read is a messy S on what looks like evidence in a murder trial. I guess it’s a good thing she lost it in her agitation or she might have been tossed off the plane for flashing the gruesome thing. 😆 Aren’t David concerts with David fans the best? Gonna go visit the toooouuuuurrr page soon and post my plans! Hope to see a lot of you do the same. We gotta meet up!

If so, then oh my YES, he should do that one. That was a #1 slow dance when I was doing slow dances at the Sat. night teen dances. He would keeellll and own that song!!

Question? Is it possible to make a list for each tour show of the peeps that are going?(I think there should be some commas in that sentence somewhere) I think it was done once before on one of the shows, and it was listed on the left sidebar if I remember right. That way it would be more concise. It’s probably alot of busy work for you admins to keep up with us as we list our plans, but I think it would be a really cool (? did I just date myself) way of keeping track of who/when/where.

Covers, schmovers! The reality is that we don’t care what David sings, as long as he sings. But some songs are just calling out to him, beckoning for his voice. I’m curious to see what he’s going to pick this time; I know it’s going to be something good. He has an uncanny ability to pick the right covers.

CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — Foster Festival will be held on base Saturday and Sunday.
The free festival, to be held 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. each day, will feature live entertainment, game booths, amusement rides, Kiddie Land and food booths.
American Idol Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta is scheduled to perform.
The event is open to all SOFA-status personnel and local nationals.
Access to the festival for local nationals will be via Camp Foster’s Gate #5 off of Highway 58.
Attendees are not allowed to bring pets, coolers or alcohol.

All year long I hear songs that I immediately think “David should cover this!”
Then the question is asked and I have a hard time thinking of any.
Then I try to take the easy way out and think that he has such good taste and chose FOG and The Riddle, so I think he’s better at picking songs than me, lol.
But I am still on the “In my Life” train. He would kill that.

Taking the liberty to post SF’s prayer, don’t know what time they’re leaving so here it is.
Lord,
Please take care of David. Watch over him and protect him from all harm.
Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path.
Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give.
Surround David with people who will love and support him unconditionally as we do and always will.
Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being.
Give him rest when he’s weary and stamina to sustain his hectic pace.
Give him assurance when he feels doubt and give him joy when he feels sad.
Keep him always in your protective arms during this time on his journey to Okinawa, Japan.
Keep David and and his voice healthy & strong as he continues to fulfill his Destiny.
May he continue to encounter goodwill and happiness wherever his life’s journey takes him.
And please Lord, give us the wisdom to do right by David always.
Help us in the way we support him so that it is always in his best interests.
