David Archuleta ~ The Rush of Crush
Posted by djafan on Monday, August 1, 2011
It was Friday, August 1, 2008. I had the day off. I set the alarm for 5am and sprinted to my computer. This surprised me as I was unaware that I could still sprint. hah! Strapped on my headphones and away yay yay I whooshed! It was an exhilarating experience, watching his reaction to the plaintive cries of his first-born. I listened to this on repeat so many times my satellite provider cut me off for 24 hours! Say what? It hurt too. The shock to my system almost sent me into ODD DT’s. Not pretty. Needless to say, I quickly switched to High Speed DSL after that. But it was all worth it. Witnessing his profound joy was one of the sweetest moments ever.

Still have a crush on that song. When it first came out, I wrote these words. The songwriters were Emanuel Kiriakou, Jess Cates, and David Hodges. ♥
“Why is it that, though I have and love all of David’s songs, I only rarely play any of them more than once, but with Crush I have to keep hitting replay over and over? My thoughts were that it is a really complex work with so many emotions: longing, doubt, fear, frustration, anger, passion, love and yes, even the first stirrings of sexual desire. It hooks you with a moan and then his vocals start off so soft, “What a rush”. Then they get sharp and full of angst with, “Why do I keep running from the truth”. Then comes that love call that on the second refrain seems to reach out across time and space, “I just got to know!!” He becomes everyone who ever loved and aches to know if their love will be returned. Then the gorgeous layering vocals and it ends on the yay, yay, yay, as if to tell us he’s just another 17 year old and this is really just another light contemporary pop song.
Right. And I’m the Queen of England.”

I also remember getting up early that morning to listen to Crush…watching David react was priceless!! I’m sure it was such a surreal experience for him. I love Crush even more now, because, as is usually the case, Crush LIVE is amazing. I just watched the video up above from Indonesia, (still trying to get caught up!), what a great ending w/ fireworks. Asia really treated David like he deserves to be treated…like a star! Happy Crushversary David!!

Angelica – another great post – thankfully you have the ability to put my feelings into words – perfectly! I will always remember that morning. I put on my heard phones anxiously waiting to hear Crush and see David’s reaction – which was priceless – when hubby (who likes David’s voice, but no way shares my ODD) says to me, “Well, I want to hear it too!” hahaha – so we listened together. Was it really three years ago!?

Angelica, What a wonderful stroll down memory lane. That Z100 video actually brought tears to my eyes. Such a sweet and touching moment in time that will stay with him forever.
I remember that day so well and remember watching all those videos, including the one Betsy posted in #8. When I listen to him saying that it might just last a year or two … well, I’m so glad he is three years in and still going strong, more determined than ever to build a lasting career.
David, I hope it lasts forever, cuz …

I could write a book about your article—(relax , I won’t ) -he was so crazy nervous and excited that day–it just made you fall deeper in love with him!
The ” Little Song That Could” Sure did!!! I have often wondered just how many times he has sang ( sung?) ” Crush”.
As you say Angelica ” winner and still champion” and I wish with all that’s in me he has many, many more!

Z100 is my local radio station so of course I woke up early that day to listen on radio and watch the video on youtube. I’m so not a morning person but the thought of hearing David on radio erased all morning grumpiness and brought a huge smile to my face as it did just now when I watched the Z100 video again. He was nervous about how it would sound but we all knew it would be wonderful! I remember keeping a close watch on radio after that in the hopes of hearing Crush again. The first time I heard it on radio I was in a car packed full of people. I made everyone stop talking so we could all hear the song.
Congratulations to David and “Crush” on this three-year anniversary. It’s hard to believe that three years have passed since the day it premiered, since AI7 and since we all gathered together in this fandom. I can barely remember my life before this.

New book profiles singer-songwriter David Archuleta from fans’ perspective
“Through Our Eyes” by Pamela Pike provides a fan’s-eye view of “American Idol” contestant and recording artist
LOS ANGELES (MMD Newswire) August 1, 2011 – – “Through Our Eyes” (ISBN 143921171X), a non-fiction book by Pamela Pike, examines the music, personality and rise to fame of David Archuleta through the eyes of the fans who love him most as well as some of the people who have worked most closely with him.
An energetic singer from the age of six, Archuleta rose to fame through his audience-winning performances on “American Idol.” In “Through Our Eyes,” Pike traces his artistry and the impact it has had on the lives of fans. Look how the girls head and the black man’s head are tilted in an unnatural pose? The girl’s sleeve is brown on David’s shoulder yet its purple on her chest.
Worst cut and paste ever LOL
Dak
They took a whole body pic of David and pasted it next to her. Look at the blurry edge near his armpit where they pasted him into the composition.
Was this the same guy who did that freak out video over one of David’s songs? I don’t recall what song, just was a black guy OTT about David’s music.

Everytime I hear Crush, I get the same feeling I did when I first heard it. Will never forget that day, was so happy for David. Even happier today for him with all the “goodies” happening.
#30…I thought Jeannette’s head looked funny, but I never thought of photo shopped. Duh!!!
The last 4 days I have been at my son’s down in Rockwall, TX. When Shopping with DIL at Bath an Body Works, TOSOD came on and it was so good to hear David singing in a public place! DIL was on her cell and I kept saying “that’s David, that’s David singing The Other Side of Down!” I know I sounded like an idiot, but I couldn’t help it! Hearing him in public makes me all giddy and happy!!
And when I got home, I had rec’d my new album with the new songs and have been playing them over and over. Good stuff!

My store did a poll on facebook – what is your favorite music type thing. Of course I did my part. (Clearly they didn’t hear me) Today the results came out and John Lennon’s Imagine will be added into the mix. Although his version is pretty good too. 🙂
