Virtually There ~ Abrra’s Ustream Recap of David Archuleta in Manila

Posted by Abrra on Tuesday, July 19, 2011

It was Monday morning, July 18, 2011, normally a workday for me, so I knew I might not see Davidโ€™s Manila concert online. I had put the UStream app on my cell phone last Saturday to watch the Jakarta concert while away from home. When it works, its great. Monday it worked like a charm.ย  As I watched I wrote down the set list and some notes about some of the songs. Here is my โ€œcell cast recapโ€ of the best concert ever performed, by the best singer in the history of the entire world. Ever.

David came out on stage to a thunderous crowd of fans who cheered and wailed their approval as he sang his opener, Stomping the Roses. Dressed in jeans topped by a soft gray tee-shirt and a rust-red jacket, he looked ready toย  sing his heart out for the fans in Manila, as well as those around the world on UStream. The energy was palpable as he sang the next few songs while he strutted across the stage. At one point during The Other Side of Down, he did his strut-kick move and flashed a huge smile at someone in the front row. He shows no mercy! A Little Too Not Over You was a fan favorite with everyone singing along. Arms swaying over head, calling out his name โ€œDAVID,DAVID!โ€ in appreciation, kept fans engaged in every moment of each song. I felt as if I was sitting right there in the 10th row, straining to see him when he came to our side of the stage.

Working the expanse of the stage has become an art form for David that he has improved on immensely in the last few months. Leaning in to touch outstretched hands to the delight of those lucky enough to be within reach is common practice for David. Itโ€™s a way to give back, in a personal way, to those who support him. When he got to the part in Touch My hand where he points to the audience, I steeled myself for the screams that would come. An explosion of screams filled the arena, each person in line with his pointing finger catching the bullet of his gaze.ย

The stage lighting was first class. Each song was cast in a different color of the rainbow, giving a feeling of flow, as the show progressed. I note this because in the last concert, David was chasing a spotlight most of the time on stage. This time all lighting was focused on him and the band. The band was in top musical form. Each instrument played with the perfect vibe needed to carry the songs along. The back up vocals blended with Davidโ€™s gigantic voice in perfect support. Bravo for the band!

Davidโ€™s velvety voice on Gonna Get Through This earns him the name of โ€œFunkmaster Dโ€ in my book! The melody just dripped from his lips as he grooved on stage. Starting softly and building in volume, he ends the song with a long high note that carried us away on a cloud! We rode that cloud again during My Hands. I hope that song never drops off his set list. His keyboard came out for A Thousand Miles, a song he has played many times and is a real crowd-pleaser. It was another sing along by the audience. What he did next made me catch my breath. It was so typical of Davidโ€™s gratitude towards those who support him.

Although I had periodic disconnects from the UStream, I got back on one just in time to hear David say โ€œSalamat!โ€ to the crowd. Wildness ensued as he began the final song of the set, Zero Gravity. Itโ€™s a great, uplifting (ha!) song to close out the show. Bathed in pure white lights shining down on the whole stage, David gave the final performance of the night.

Oh, did I mention the encore?

I will paraphrase. He said it was an amazing feeling. He got motivation and felt encouraged from the support of the audience.ย  I think there were a few tears in his voice as he spoke with much emotion. What came next was a total surprise to everyone. Standing there rambling about the song he sang on Hollywood week on Idol, he started to sing Heaven! He sang THE MOST HEARTFELT rendition of Heaven I have ever heard. David performed with hauntingly gorgeous vocal runs, assisted by several thousands he held close to his heart. โ€œOnce in your life you find someone, who will turn your world around, bring you up when youโ€™re feelinโ€™ down.โ€ When he sings, his love lights our way.

    Abrra,

What a cool idea to recap a concert from a cell cast! Leave it to you to be so original!

One of the many things that impresses me about David is how well he masters the language of the country he’s in. He easily picks up accents and then chooses a few expressions enabling him to communicate the fans. He’s so accepting and welcoming to all cultures in the way he speaks their language, eats their food and wears their traditional garb.

Well, I finally had the chance to sit down, undisturbed to watch all the videos and read the comments from the Manila show. Iโ€™m with Angelica. Itโ€™s going to take me a few days to process everything. One thing Iโ€™m sure of is that the boy we knew from American Idol is somewhere in the distance now and has evolved into an extraordinary performer with the stage presence of a well-seasoned professional. Itโ€™s both an honor and privilege to be considered his fan.

Some more eye candy of the person who lights up the world with his smile.

  2. Abrra…Oh my…I am very tired this morning and have another busy day ahead but I found my way to my pc to check incase I missed something important! How dare I even have a moment of doubt that when David is performing. So I have been trying to piece it all together…

A recap of yesterdays concert? The ‘gem or jewel’ of a concert? Thank you for writing this instead of waiting maybe ‘forever it may seem’ to have one from someone who was right there!

From all of us who missed the concert in whole once again ‘Thank You’…

Abs, what a unique idea! I love this recap! It’s gotta be the first of it’s kind.
It really is awesome to be watching a concert with thousands online, taking place so far away. There is a kinship there.

    And I agree
“the best concert ever performed, by the best singer in the history of the entire world. Ever”.

I went to sleep listening to “Heaven” in my earphones, and woke up listening to it this morning. The song and the exchange of love that was so palpable gives me chills, yet warms my heart so much I just can’t stop listening to it.

    Abbra,

I’m surprised, but I guess not really, to find myself crying right now. Your recap was so special, so unique, and your commentary so right on that I am struggling to find the words to describe how I am feeling about all of this “wonderfulness.” As I try to analyze my deep feelings about these concerts in Asia I know that a huge part of it is the fact that these wonderful, marvelous fans love and appreciate David in the very special way that he deserves. I think part of my tears is a sadness that he doesn’t receive this same kind of love and respect here in the good ‘ole US of A. It makes me even more grateful to The Voice right now and for all of us here that love him so much. I am also thankful for ALL the many David fan sites and the fans here that do “get” David and love him the way we do. I can only “imagine” how happy David is right now, basking in such love, such devotion, such appreciation, such happiness and joy!!! I wonder if he can even sleep at night——trying to absorb and believe what is happening to him right now. These performances have been so epic and marvelous it is hard to find adjectives to even describe it all. I watch, I cry, I get chills, and I feel overwhelmed with his ability to touch my soul the way he does, a way that no one else ever has (and I have been “into” music my entire life.) All I really care about is David’s happiness and I am guessing that right now David is in “heaven”, living his ultimate dream and experiencing potential he didn’t even know he had.

    Hi everyone! Cheers from Manila!

    DAVID WAS SOOOO DARNNN GOOOOOD!!!!

I still can’t believe how inspired his performances were! We were gobsmacked by the intensity in his singing. “Heaven” was so unexpected and so deeply moving to everyone in the audience. Tears were streaming because David poured out so much emotion into the song that our hearts could explode.

I just came home from the book signing, and wasn’t able to attend the cd signing in Southmall. I’ll be back to work tomorrow even if David still has another cd signing in another mall tomorrow evening. Just thinking about David leaving our country in a couple of days is already making me heartsick. I was sobbing as soon as I got to the privacy of my room.

Can’t he just move to the Philippines already?

Abrra, Thanks so much for the Cellcap! I was right there with you and 2000 others from around the world. You described it so beautifully. At one point I got up to do some other things while listening and all of a sudden I heard HEAVEN ….AND I had to sit down and absorb every note and emotion in disbelief. Such memories! “I get chills just thinking about it” as David would say. I can still see him rubbing his arms. Ah such wonderful memories of over three years and now he shows how much he has grown and how full of appreciation he has for this journey that we are on together. Ascphil-I Can’t even imagine what you are experiencing and can’t wait for your wonderfuly detailed report. Thought of you, JR, Naree and so many other devoted fans.

May I just say…he continues…continues….to stun me….EVEN when I KNOW how he is…humble, sweet, sincere, down-to-earth, thoughtful as he speaks…even even even…..when he got to the part of “I’m no better than you” etc, and the sincerity in which you could see he meant it…chills started over me and literally went down to my knees. I knowwww, corny as all get out….but this kid touches me with what a sweet example of “good people” he is..on top of what he can do with music and on stage. It’s just a joy to witness. I can’t find any more words…be back later to catch up more~

Abrra, what an exciting treat to have the livestream re-capped. Thank you for all the pictures, videos and links that you put up for us. I cannot thank you enough. ๐Ÿ™‚ I, too, noticed the lighting and so appreciated the masterful way it was done–David should n.o.t. ever perform in the dark (starting in the dark and then the lights coming up is different–ie:AveMaria). But, for him to be lost from the spotlight is a big NO in my book.

Then there’s Heaven โ™ฅโ™ฅ–then there is heaven, he took us to Heaven when he sang that hauntingly gorgeous rendition. I just don’t know how he could ever top that one. And, to think that he and Mark practiced it just hours earlier for the first time–God does love David and the message that he delivers with every note he sings.

I must get to work now, so I’ll have to read the comments later. โ™ฅ

So yes, I am officially obsessed with David Archuletaยดs track Everything And More (as I am sure a lot of you are!), and that is the exact reason why I had to do a video for it!

It is a lyrics on screen vid, kinda karaoke-ish except it is not the instrumental because I haven’t found a good quality one (if you have it I’d be glad to hear it!), BUT I think it is just as good and it’s ready for you to sing-along with David!

    Great article by Masterclass Lady.
Thank you for bringing it here.

Here’s the text from your link:

Where did this young man come from? I am speaking about the sublimely gifted Season 7 American Idol Runner-Up, David Archuleta.

This interview from Yes.My was conducted to herald Davidโ€™s return to Malaysia for a full concert on 26 July 2011 at Stadium Negara.

The article states that โ€œhot off the release of his new album โ€˜The Other Side of Downโ€™, David shares with us his plans for the future, his recent departure from record label JIVE, and his take on relationshipsโ€.

However, it was the tone of the article that captured me. It strongly highlighted Davidโ€™s profound maturity and intelligence, how he has such an enormous grasp on the truly important things in life, such as integrity, spiritual belief and an highly developed moral compass.

I had the pleasure of meeting David when he was on tour with the Season 7 American Idol finalists. When my husband later asked about the โ€œmeet and greetโ€, I said it was an enormously enjoyable experience.

However, I also remarked that I felt that there was something else going on with David that was intangible and very special. He seemed to view the world through sensitive and meaningful eyes, very knowledgeable and perceptive.

This article reinforced everything that impacted me during my singular meet with David.

You must read it and share your thoughts. If nothing else, you will walk away with a renewed sense of respect for the very gifted David Archuleta. http://world.yes.my/?q=ytlc&id=517

Also, this article is the first in a series of articles from a new feature here at MasterclassLady.Com called Masterclass Monday

Each Monday, I will add videos photos and articles that I feel provide am enormous learning experience for the MCL Community. And, since I canโ€™t be everywhere on the WWW, your suggestions are welcome as well. Hope to hear from all of you.

I took a look around your site. Did you know that by posting the video with David’s copyrighted song, you expose him to piracy? It’s very easy to copy audio with capture software. Your ‘disclaimer” does not absolve your site of this fact.

    “DISCLAIMER
madetobenow.com does not store any of the steaming or linked media on its servers and should not be held responsible for them. ”

. You serve it up and anyone can “copy” it. Publishing it to youtube has the same effect. As a fan of David Archuleta wouldn’t you want to help him sell songs rather than offer the chance for piracy?

โ€œFunkmaster Dโ€ in my book! The melody just dripped from his lips as he grooved on stage.

I really like this sentence. We say it with every show, what just happened? I think it’s all in David’s plan to give us a little at a time so we don’t collapse and completely loose it even though I’m on the edge here.

David will be in Arizona in September and if he announces something in August we need everyone that can make it welcome him back with thunderous love!

David was mobbed.. security guards formed human barricades to control the people, there were even children with their moms, i was actually shouting for them to stop pushing because the children would be hurt. Mr. Jeff was literally running around with the long haired bodyguard maybe trying to figure out how david could get out without being mobbed. it took David a while and when he got out around 10 burly guys were surrounding him and almost embracing him while David was walking very very fast, (but he was still all smiles) fans were shouting and running after himโ€ฆ..whewww but David was not a bit scared. I was scared for him hahah but all is well he reached his car eventually SAFE. People were shouting and screaming at least 10mins more after he left hahahah PANDEMONIUM

Hello all! I have finally recovered enough from yesterday’s heavenly abyss to write up something for my blog. It’s just a short entry and a new poem. Actually, the poem is in limerick form (kind of). I’ll share the poem with y’all (yes, I am a Texan) here. I hope you like it.

    David Takes Flight

There once was a young singer at Jive
Whose career it did sputter, not thrive.
    So he left after three,
    His idea to be Free,
His mission; his lifework to revive.

This young man he went home for to pray
For his life and his options to weigh.
As his fans wept and worried,
He took his time, was not hurried,
And he thought and he planned a new day.

Now this artist named David was sly,
With his band he would take to the sky.
Off to lands far from home,
    He would ramble and roam,
He would rise; his critics to defy.

There once was a young man from Murray
Whose voice left his fans in a flurry.
To their hearts they were clinging
    ‘Cause “Heaven” he was singing
And their minds did go numb and blurry.

So in Asia young David took flight.
He has shown them his instincts were right.
    He brought them his song,
    And proved he’s still strong,
And his fans know his future is bright.

You’re so right, Abrra (40), he does live in the moment. And that is one of the things I really love about David. When he sings he is sooo in the moment, and brings us into that awesome moment too…and we forget about all the petty day to day stuff, or even the really hard stuff…it’s like a desperately needed escape to a peaceful place where there is hope and joy and it feels like everything is going to be OK. There is so much going on in his life that could consume his mind and energy…worrying about past mistakes, stressing about the future (although I think his fans have it down to an art!), and yet, he is able to let it go, which allows him to really be present in the moment, whether he is singing to a huge crowd or speaking to one fan. I think that is one of the reasons seeing him live is so powerful–every bit of him is invested in each song.

It reminded me of a poem I knew as a teenager called “Celebrate the Temporary”.

    Celebrate the temporary
    Don’t wait until tomorrow
    Live today

    Celebrate the simple things
    Enjoy the butterfly
    Embrace the snow
    Run with the ocean
    Delight in trees
    Or a single flower
Go barefoot in the wet grass

    Don’t wait
Until all the problems are solved
Or all the bills are paid
    You will wait forever
    Eternity will come and go
End you will still be waiting

    Live in the now
    With all the problems
    And its agonies
    With its joy
    And its pain
    Your despair
    Your anger
    It means you’re alive

    Look closer
    Breathe deeper
    Stand taller
    Stop grieving the past

    There is joy and beauty
    Today
    It is temporary
    Here now and gone
    So celebrate it
    While you can

    Celebrate the temporary

(Pandasmom, you can see I love poetry…I really enjoyed your limerick!)

Speaking of “in the moment”, this summer has been crazy busy, allowing very little “David Time”. So, when my kids asked what I wanted for my birthday today, I said that I wanted some alone time, haha! So, for this (I’m sure very short) moment, I’m finally able to really watch and listen to the wonderful videos of the last two concerts. Aaahh, it is truly a birthday treat! What love he gives off and what love he in turn receives! Just amazing.

I think that’s part of what it is for me. With David’s music, I’m living in the moment and leting all my worries float away as the sound of his voice fills me up and pushing everything else out. In that moment, it’s just me and the music.

Another GREAT review for David’s concert in Manila!

Third time’s the charm: Archuleta electrifies fans at the Araneta
    By ROWENA JOY A. SANCHEZ
    July 19, 2011, 4:57pm

MANILA, Philippines โ€“ There must be โ€œsomething โ€˜boutโ€ David Archuleta that keeps his Filipino fans wanting โ€œeverything and moreโ€ from him.

Although already on his third visit—he first set foot on our shores in 2009 (with โ€œAmerican Idolโ€ Season 7 champ David Cook) and then in 2010 to promote his album, โ€œThe Other Side Of Down (TOSOD)โ€ —Archuleta continues to amaze his Filipino fans.

This was most palpable during his first major solo concert in the country, โ€œDavid Archuletaโ€ฆ Liveโ€ held at the Araneta Coliseum last July 18 where fans screamed, sang, grooved to his songs as if they were hearing them for the first time.

Archuleta didn’t even have to bother with an elaborate stage set-up, filling up the bare stage instead with his signature soulful singing style and that dynamic stage presence. Heโ€™s obviously much more confident and comfortable on stage now, harnessed by his constant touring post-AI.

His Filipino fans stood on their seats when he opened his 18-song set with โ€œStomping The Roses,โ€ a track from โ€œTOSOD.โ€ Few sat down throughout the almost one-and-a-half hour show, with the 20-year-old singer-songwriter taking no breaks except to recharge his vocal cords by downing water in between songs.

Singing non-stop may have affected his voice, as there were times when he seemed to be experiencing shortness of breath. In โ€œSomething โ€˜Bout Love,โ€ Archuleta noticeably sang on the lower register at the latter part of the song. Though quite unusual, it didnโ€™t sound off.

Amid these minor vocal issues, Archuleta was attacking every word and note in earnest, whether itโ€™s an upbeat song like โ€œThe Other Side Of Down,โ€ or a slow one such as โ€œFalling Stars.โ€

His set, of course, included what may well be considered as โ€œstaplesโ€ in his shows, such as โ€œCrush,โ€ โ€œTouch My Hand,โ€ and โ€œA Little Too Not Over You.โ€ However, it felt kind of redundant to hear him sing Vanessa Carltonโ€™s โ€œA Thousand Milesโ€ and Ben E. Kingโ€™s โ€œStand By Meโ€ (with a bit of Sean Kingstonโ€™s โ€œBeautiful Girlsโ€), as he already did this during his concert with Cook. Archuleta has a good number of songs from โ€œTOSODโ€ such as โ€œWho I Am,โ€ โ€œComplainโ€ and โ€œLook Around,โ€ and fans would’ve loved to hear them performed live.

Archuleta paid tribute to the 80s, an era heโ€™s a fan of, by singing Tears For Fearsโ€™ โ€œEverybody Wants To Rule The World.โ€ If โ€œAmerican Idolโ€ judge Randy Jackson and ex-judge Paula Abdul were there, they wouldโ€™ve probably told him, โ€œyou made that song your own and made it accessible to the younger crowd.โ€

The young crooner also did versions of Daniel Bedingfieldโ€™s โ€œGotta Get Thru Thisโ€ and Bryan Adamsโ€™ โ€œHeaven.โ€ The former, in particular, left the fans in awe as it allowed Archuleta to do some show-stopping vocal acrobatics towards the end.

The concert wonโ€™t be complete without Archuleta playing the piano. Some hearts probably melted when he sang โ€œMy Kind Of Perfectโ€—a song he wrote for the special girl heโ€™s yet to meet.

It was also while performing with the piano that one of the most noteworthy parts of the show took place. At one point during his performance of โ€œA Thousand Miles,โ€ Archuleta missed a key on the keyboard, which distracted him. His fans cheered him on, and after a few seconds, their idol was back on his element. He made the second half of the song even better, changing a part of the lyrics: โ€œCoz you know Iโ€™d fly a thousand miles, if I can just see you tonight.โ€

After the performance, Archuleta, chuckling, told his fans, โ€œYou make me freezeโ€ฆโ€

โ€œI flew a thousand miles just to see youโ€ฆโ€ he added, eliciting even more squeals especially from the girls in the audience.

Having been to the country multiple times has made Archuleta quite the expert in delivering common Filipino phrases. There wasnโ€™t much twang when Archuleta said, โ€œKumusta Manila? (How are you Manila?),โ€ โ€œSalamat (Thank you),โ€ and โ€œMahal ko kayo (I love you all).โ€

He also gave a shout-out to his front act, Julie Anne San Jose. As Archuleta himself said in his interview with GMA-7, the โ€œParty Pilipinasโ€ regular was his personal choice for the task.

The fans didnโ€™t let go of Archuleta easily. After he left the stage following his 16th and supposed last song, โ€œZero Gravity,โ€ the Big Dome was filled with loud chants of โ€œWe want more!โ€ It didnโ€™t take long for Archuleta to come out again for an encore.

Archuleta gave his fans not only a memorable night but something to think about. At one point, he encouraged the audience to go for their dreams and do so their way.

We wouldnโ€™t be surprised if Archuleta returns to the country a fourth time and fans would still flock to his show.

I’m still in recovery mode. Back later when I can tear myself away from his gravitational pull. This latest concert has weakened me considerably. Stayed home from work today and slept (between watching videos, a totally counter-productive activity for an ODD crisis.)

  56. David has been sensational, but the wonderful kind of sensationalism.

In the song GGTT, if you haven’t discovered David at the 5:00 minute mark then please do because after that and so much more I began to wonder what we can do when he returns home to give him the inspiration that he loves? I think that primarily it is the state of the music industry in the US that has caused the problems for him but we have the power to change that.

Pattirae expressed my sentiments exactly in comment #11 that while this is all spectacular, there is some sadness that the music industry here has kept David from developing into the magnificent singer that he now has become.

We could see that he was greatly inspired first by the responses to his performances at the MoTab concerts. It was from those responses that he performed like the most well known and loved of all the classical singers. It is the positive energy that reaches him and creates performances by him that are out of this world. He did this connection again in Manila but of course in a different way.

Just imagine being somewhere that his religion did not matter, so that he could allow himself to be a free spirit. I believe that singing ‘Heaven’ was a thank you that went beyond the fans.

  64. Vee, now in Sydney after Manila trip , want to go back said

    Hello everyone.

Just arrived from Sydney Airport , flew from Manila last night. Sorry this is a long post, with lost of rambling stories so forgive me ….. Hope everyone is enjoying the videos…. But I wish everyone was there to enjoy the actual concert…. My heart was beating so fast, pounding sounds. Continues shouts of fans and there was David giving a concert as if it would be the last time he would perform to his fans, like a farewell concert, giving 1000% of himself. As if there is no tomorrow….

Hello ms Ascphil, crying, just like me. Very sad to leave ……sad face ๐Ÿ˜ฆ ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Also , JR brought me to the airport after the book signing. I had an 8:30 pm plane trip to Sydney. I had to be at the airport three hours before my flight. So we had to leave the book signing earlier. Sad face again ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

JR would probably tell this story better than me but here goes. Before I forget , thanks ms JR, hope to see you again.

On the way to the airport we were reminiscing about the book signing. I had to give JR my sd card with a short video of the book signing because her camera battery was flat. Busy talking about last night’s concert and then the book signing, we arrived at the airport and then there were two lanes , one going to Arrival , one going to Departure.

JR being the driver asked me,” Arrival right? I said OF COURSE.” With a kind of a tone, as if you saying, you should know lady…. Then she took the arrival lane …….. Then silence…………………………..long silence……………. Then both of us started to laugh………. Like teenagers….

We had to ask the airport staff on how to go to the other lane, DEPARTURE. We had to explain to them we missed our turn.

I told JR it was good we were a bit early or else I would have missed my plane.

And from there, we made a pack not to talk about that certain someone when making important decisions, arrival or departure.

I think deep inside I wanted to stay. Sad face again ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

More stories to come, hopefully JR can upload that short video. The first part of that video was a small David, then I’ve realized my video camera can do ZOOM….( I forgot about that ) ..then a big David with the most beautiful happy smile. Continues smiles …. Then you would hear me taking to him ( just sounds) while he signed my book and my little boy’s picture. Pleading him to sign the picture because the assistants were telling everyone, only books are allowed during the booking signing ( right no other things, only books). But being David, he did signed it. Will try to send you that pic ms Abrra, will try to ask my ex if you would be able to post the picture.

Sorry about grammatical errors. Forgive me but you would hear more rambling stories to come weather you like or not:) ๐Ÿ™‚ until the admi people will tell me to stop.

I better have my shower now….

Vee now back to reality ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Oh my, I am so BUSTED! It really felt that way. There I was in my friend’s kitchen wiping down counters and the next thing I know I am sitting with the fans in the 10th row center. Soaking in all the love flowing to and from the stage where the best singer in the entire world, EVER is singing/living out his destiny . Each song an act of love and friendship submitted as payment for the encouragement and support to those who were there just to breath the same air as him. To witness in person what they had dreamed about. To hear the VOICE of an angel.

Then I got back to the kitchen just in time to wash the floor ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m taking the liberty of bring over this comment on Snowangelz by the lovely Ms. Kizzi, beautiful.

A good friend of mine sent me a book called The Growing Edge by Howard Thurman. Very inspirational and he describes this โ€œgrowing edge:โ€

โ€œIt is the extra breath from the exhausted lung, the one more thing to try when all else has failed, the upward reach of life when weariness closes in upon all endeavor. This is the basis of hope in moments of despair, the incentive to carry on when times are out of joint and men have lost their reason, the source of confidence when worlds crash and dreams whiten into ash.โ€

2 other quotes from his writings:

โ€œThere is something in every one of you that waits and listens for the sound of the genuine in yourself. It is the only true guide you will ever have. And if you cannot hear it, you will all of your life spend your days on the ends of strings that somebody else pulls.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.โ€

Made me think of Davidโ€™s The Star Online interview and the Jakarta and Manila concerts. He has embraced his โ€œgrowing edgeโ€ and is pursuing what makes him โ€œcome alive.โ€ No wonder we are inspired and uplifted when we hear his music. Itโ€™s just David, sharing his dream with the world. ~ Kizzi

Watching the rehearsal of LDH is witnessing genius at work. As David sings flawlessly, he paces off the perimeter of the stage area to get the feel of how much space he has to work with. Then when it’s over he says ” Hmmm. Something about the groove…” it’s as iif he wasn’t pleased with what he and the band just did.

Could of fooled me! It’s my favorite song on the CD. There’s just so much groove in that song You did so well David, seriously!

Jeff must have filmed most of the behind the scenes. I read reports that he was taping much of the time. Thanks Jeff!!

However it unfolded, David chose where to rise in full force and yes it did absolutely defy his critics. Perhaps it is just one small example of David and Goliath but simply amazing to me. His talents are endless…

“Now this artist named David was sly,

Would like to comment on SB’s comment in #56,,, “Just imagine being somewhere his religion didn’t matter, so that he could allow himself to be a free spirit.” Maybe I am alone in my thinking, but it seems to me David has said his shyness has held him back in the past. His religion is a guide for him, but doesn’t dictate his actions. I think David is the living representative of a human being who knows himself, yet refines and defines who he is on a daily basis. He says he asks God for direction, he prays and finds his own answers.

Hopefully someone in David’s camp is putting together a DVD of all the backstage, onstage, epic moments from the Asia tour. There were so many so far and it’s not even over…M&G moments. rockstar moves, unbelievable high notes, airport arrivals, new songs, sung for the first time, new foods tasted, a ride on the jeepney, visits to museums and more that we don’t even know about. Fans would scoop it up. Glad Jeff is taking footage like this. It will one day become part of David’s biographical history and even if it isn’t marketed right now (which would be silly since we are here with our hands stretched out), it will remain in the archives for future projects.

David Archuleta stuns Manila anew, reveals his ‘kind of girlfriend’

    By JECELYN V. MACAHINDOG
    July 21, 2011, 8:00am

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Playing the keyboards while singing โ€˜My Kind Of Perfect.โ€™

MANILA, Philippines — The saying โ€œthreeโ€™s a charmโ€ worked for third-time visitor David Archuleta.

The โ€œAmerican Idol Season 7โ€ runner-up arrived July 17 in time for his successful Manila concert held July 18 at the Araneta Coliseum.

Fans screamed at the top of their voices at the glimpse of the 20-year-old American crooner and songwriter. Talent aside, it only needs his boyish charm to perfect a night loaded with one and a half hour of showmanship.

David sang 17 songs from his past and present albums, satisfying the crowd composed of youngsters and oldies.

โ€œHello Philippines!,โ€ went David who started the show past 9 p.m. with โ€œStomping The Roses.โ€ His getup was relaxed โ€“ black jeans, plain gray shirt and red jacket โ€“ making him sweat all over on that hot, humid day.

โ€œKumusta kayo, Manila? Itโ€™s good to be back here. Thank you for coming. Itโ€™s my third time here,โ€ David addressed the crowd as he tried to perfect his Tagalog.

    No dull moment

The upbeat โ€œThe Other Side Of Down,โ€ โ€œSomething Bout Love,โ€ โ€œElevatorโ€ sent David dancing and jumping to the beat full of energy, same with โ€œA Little Too Not Over You,โ€ โ€œLove Donโ€™t Hate,โ€ โ€œTouch My Hand,โ€ โ€œMy Hands,โ€ โ€œFalling Starsโ€ and his hit โ€œCrush.โ€ The repertoire made the audience sing as if they were singing the national anthem โ€“ united, synchronized, and take note, with lyrics memorized.

Not to be missed from the repertoire were covers among them: Tears for Fearsโ€™ โ€œEverybody Wants To Rule The World,โ€ Daniel Bedingfieldโ€™s โ€œGonna Get Thru Thisโ€ and Bryan Adamโ€™s โ€œHeaven.โ€

David also shared a piece of advice to the crowd. โ€œHave a dream. Live it, work hard for it even if the others tell you, โ€˜you canโ€™t.โ€™โ€

At the middle of the show, David didnโ€™t forget to thank and commend Julie Anne San Jose, who front-acted for him.

โ€œShe has an amazing voice,โ€ said David of Julie Anne.

    That boyish charm

Showing how talented he is, David sang a couple of songs while playing his keyboard. The left-handed artist didnโ€™t play the guitar, though many expected him to.

Playing his composition โ€œMy Kind Of Perfect,โ€ makes David imagine โ€œI wonder if she goes to the theme parkโ€ฆ if she likes music just like meโ€ฆโ€

During the jam-packed meet-and-greet session held at the event center of SM Megamall a day prior his Manila concert, David told the crowd his โ€œkind of girlfriend:โ€ โ€œDown to earth, loves her family, love to go out and most especially, loves to eat.โ€

Davidโ€™s serene voice, beyond the powerful falsettos and ballads relayed sincerity and depth. Beyond being a pop crooner, heโ€™s a total performer. His most uploaded performance attests to this โ€“ his rendition, for instance, of Ben E. Kingโ€™s โ€œStand By Me.โ€

Playing again on keyboards, โ€œA Thousand Miles,โ€ as David said, is โ€œa song that I like to sing a lot. It reminds me of my mom.โ€ David seemed to forget the chords and lyrics of the songโ€™s second stanza. But with only a boyish smile, he pulled off recovery and was rewarded with loud cheers.

He even changed the lyrics to his fansโ€™ delight: โ€œYou know Iโ€™d fly a thousand times if I could just see youโ€ฆ Manila.โ€

David then addressed the cheering crowd, โ€œYou guys just make me freeze!โ€

โ€œSalamat, audience! A big salamat for being here. You guys are amazing. I canโ€™t thank you enoughโ€ prompted everybody as he sang his last piece, โ€œZero Gravity.โ€

Overwhelmed with the crowdโ€™s plea to come back, David rushed back and said, โ€œThis is so amazing, incredible! Itโ€™s been remarkable making me come back.โ€

SB # 108 – thank you for your comments on my slightly unorthdox limerick. The whole thing started with just the 4th stanza about David singing Heaven but it just didn’t seem complete to me. It need more. The stanza you mentioned was the last one written and the most difficult. Oddly enough, “defy” was the first word I knew had to go in it.

You are correct about never knowing who will gain something from your words. I was profoundly touched by your comment in # 56 dealing with religion. I am a Christian (not LDS) and have long wondered why it has to be such a big deal to some people what religion David practices. I was brought up Catholic, married a Baptist (twice) and now belong to a church that is not afiliated with any denomination, just God and Jesus. I really didn’t know much about Mormans before I started following David. Now, even though I don’t agree with everything they stand for, I have learned that these followers are, for the most part – like any other religion, wonderful people, but misunderstood and chastised now for something that took place ages ago. Reminds me of my Catholic parents and the things they said about Baptists and my Baptist father-in-law and the things he says about other religions.

It always bothers me when I hear someone, and this happens even in my own family, refer to David as that Morman boy. While I believe that his religious beliefs help to make David who he is, there is so much more to him. I wish that people could drop the negative connotations about his religious beliefs and listen to “Just David.” If they could just open up their hearts and minds and hear what he is saying. There is so much there that the whole world needs to hear.

And with that, my rant for the day is complete. Thank you for listening.

For those fans who want to join me in this special prayer, please do. And thank you Djafan for posting it when he left the states for Asia.

    Lord,

Please take care of David. Watch over him, Protect him from all harm.
Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path.
Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give.
Surround David with loving and supportive people who will love him unconditionally as we, his archangels do.
Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being.
Give him comfort and rest when heโ€™s weary and give him stamina to sustain his hectic pace.
Give David assurance when he feels doubt and give him joy when he feels sad as he gives joy to so many.
Cloak him always in your protective arms during this time on his journey throughout Asia.
Keep David and HIS VOICE healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which is written in his Book of Life.
We ask that you bestow special blessings on David and his companions as they continue on to Vietnam.
Though we may be unworthy, we humbly pray. Amen.

David, have a safe & uneventful flight to Vietnam. You are constantly in our thoughts & we hope your stay in Asia so far has been all you hoped it would be. And if the photos & videos are any indication, it has been! Continue having fun & please take care! Keep with you our love & prayers. You are Everything and More. Contigo Siempre!

I just had to watch David’s vlog again…he just makes me laugh out loud!

Um..I mean Yum? He ate he didn’t know he was eating “goats innards in soup” which “didn’t taste too bad, hahaha”. And he itched where his mustache would be “if he grew it out”…OH MY! Just what we need. David with a mustache! But he is a Latino after all. And he probably demolished that poor bug with those lightening fast karate chops! ๐Ÿ˜†

On a more serious note, like many of his fans here in the USA, I look at the videos & I am amazed at the throngs of fans everywhere he goes showering him with love & admiration. And I wonder HOW do they do it? And WHY can’t we in the USA do the same? Well, for one thing, the Asian countries are very small and very densely populated so it’s easier for thousands to gather where David happens to be. America is a very large country and David’s fans are spread east to west and north to south. It’s much harder for ALL David’s fans to gather wherever David is otherwise WE WOULD! If it were possible to access his flight schedules so fans could meet him or see him off, I think at least many of his fans WOULD! Manila is one of the most densely populated cities, I think in the world. He must have thousands of fans right in Manila. Same with Jakarta, Indonesia.

Here in America, David draws crowds wherever he appears…concerts, radio promos, book signings, charity events. Just think if America was the size of…Texas or California. And we, all his fan base lived in the cites within an America of that size. How easy would it be to gather & show David all the love & admiration we feel for him just like his Asian fans are doing right now making us wish we could do the same, wanting him to KNOW HE IS LOVED HERE just as much?

Kinda lame right? But in my mind it makes sense. I love that David is being treated like royaty, like the prince that he is in Asia. They deserve seeing him perform live in concert and he has delivered! But just wait until he schedules his Christmas/Winter tour! It’s going to be a sold out tour here. His performances so far in Asia have been epic making his fans here and in Canada so anxious to see him it actually hurts! ๐Ÿ˜€

Hope David & Co arrive safely. Never in a million years would I have thought David would be performing TWICE in Vietnam! It’s mind-boggling.

    Good night to all.

Bebe #124– I got a pkg. from Hong Kong today also!! ๐Ÿ˜› I’ve taken enough time out of packing for a short vacation to download the new songs to my iPod. I’m stressing over the fact that I’m basically going to be computer-less for these few days, and it’s such an important time right now. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

SB–thank you for the Deseret Book link–it’s time to start counting the Christmas gifts to be given!! ๐Ÿ™‚

See you all in a few days!

  144. I think that for the last few days I have not been in our Atlantic time zone but hey, David has a time zone that we seem to be following mixing up our days and nights just a bit!

Having the Prayer while David is away helps to channel our support and wishes to him and there is something real to it because after I read it each time I sense that I have made a connection and it feels right.

Ah Dak, you are not alone in the rabbit hole…nice place, can someone turn on the lights please?

I would if space wasn’t an issue. For every Heaven I load, I’d have to omit something else. Its a tricky balancing act. I think there are 4 now.

Love the vlog and gif of David attacking/being attacked by that bug. I just got this in an email from my hubby and the similarity made me laugh so hard! Try moving your mouse near this guy’s head.

Haha –angelica—Dumb me –I sat there for a good 2 minutes and watched him and thought “whats so great about this?” until it dawned on me to move the mouse to his head—as per instructed. DUH ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Every time I watch that clip of David swatting the bug ( his hands move so fast –they are a blur )—-I think that it was no common ordinary fly , moth or even a bee—the way he reacted it must have been a big ‘ol hairy flying tarantula !! Haha Oh. too scary David ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

  148. Have you noticed that with David performing so far away, the lack of sleep is mounting with his ‘at home fans’? Well, when we are seeing chicken roasting on a spit next to the keyboard…and…have thoughts of an ‘ol hairy flying tarantula coming after David, then we have the answer.

    Sleep is a good thing1

Oh, I totally understand the space issue at hand, Abrra……just wishful thinking on my part. ๐Ÿ™‚ I pop in to watch Unplugged pretty frequently….Saturday nights are just not a good night for me to chat. My hubby works out of town during the week so I value what time we do have on the weekends. Like you said, it’s all a balancing act. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Miss you all very much!

SF #141 “Kinda lame right? But in my mind it makes sense.”

No it’s not lame. I have read this sentiment from others and I’ve felt the same too. At his concert in Indonesia where the fans sang along to each song, I wondered why it’s not like that here when we know that David feeds off crowd participation. I’ve only seen one complaint about the fans singing along there, All others were enthralled with the crowd. Why when fans sing along here you get looks like you have a third eye and so many complaints on the videos of only wanting to hear David sing. (Not that that stops me, my money and of course not on slower songs). But its not with same abandonment. Is it cultural? And Manila was so bittersweet for me. Loved, loved, loved the love they showed David and loved the love he showed them. But at the same time I wanted to say but David your US fans really love you too. Therefore, it meant a lot to me when he also gave us a shout out in his vlog. Your explanation about the density of the Asian countries makes sense as to why our crowds are not as large as theirs. Still, seeing the Asian fans response sure make me want to do more. But what? Yet on the other hand, I get the impression David likes the freedom here of going about without too much fanfare.Oh well.

SF, as always, thanks for the Prayer for David.

Thanks to everyone for all you do here at The Voice. When things get crazy, in the fandome, I always know I can come here for sanity (also insanity, looking at Dak & Sky, lol) and solace. Abrra, I enjoyed your “wand”erful recap. PandasMama I think your poem is spot on. Kaycee’s yours is cool too. Much thanks.

    Abrra,

Stuff as many Heavens as will fit in Unplugged. haha Seriously, I know you’re pressed for space so we will leave it up to you to pick the one with the best sound because ultimately it’s all about the music. Isn’t it? ๐Ÿ˜‰

    SF,

I agree with you in that David’s fans are scattered around the U.S. in each of the states making it hard to get together easily. But certainly in the large cities like New York and Los Angeles, there are enough fans to gather at airports.

    Tawna,

It took me several hours to unwrap my TOSOD ATE (sort of like a beautifully- wrapped Christmas present that you want to savor).

    SB,

Trying to get to Unplugged tonight to see what Abs has cooked up, but am sooo sleepy. Keeping up with David’s change of time zones is taking it’s toll on the whole fanbase;. But I just can’t keep away LOL

Yaaayyy!! CD’s from Hong Kong arrived today!! I love my mailman!!

Yesterday I left a woman sitting at my desk while I went to grab something for her. When I came back her eyes were like saucers. “That singer on your Ipod gave me chills! Look, I have goose bumps on my arms. I did not know anyone could sing a capella like that. He was spot on for every note, the trills were perfect!” I checked to see what had played. My Country Tis of Thee medley from SOF, then God Bless America from Celebrity Heroes BB. She had heard of David, but had never heard him sing those songs. She had no idea how beautiful he is, was unaware how he lived his life. I used to think I was David’s most ardent fan, but now I am not so sure.

    Goboy and SF,

You both bring good points. My first David concert was general admission mosh pit, no seating. It was such an electrical experience, I felt like I was levitating with so much energy. Jumping, screaming, everyone was. So maybe the type of venue also plays a part on how much the fans get involved. I like the ones were there is a mosh pit and seating. David can touch the hands of his adoring fans.

SB, reading all over the fan sites and twitter and everyone is so sleep deprived because of David and he’s on the other side of the world. We need to let him feel our love when he comes back, by tweet, on his OS, loose ourselves in him when he see him and not give a care to what others think.

David on his way to Vietnam.

David will land at Tan Son Nhat airport at 4:45 pm on 21st July,
and will be in Hanoi on 23rd, at 12.10 pm.

    Awwww David!

Just a caution about some strangeness I have been getting from Twitter.

I got to DM’s ( private messages) from 2 people that I follow (and that follow me) with the same comment
BEWARE of any familiar names sending you a DM with this sentence

“LOL can you tell me if its you in this video?..” then there is a link after that

IT MIGHT BE A VIRUS do not click any links that seem to bait you to click them. Its a hacker that can appear as your friend, but its not. DM virsus made a mess of things about a year ago for so many.

Run your virus checking program just to be on the safe side. Its a common hacker trick to give a leading question and use the name of one of your followers to bait you to click it. I never click any DM links no matter how enticing.
