The Other Side Of Down Gifting Campaign ~ David Archuleta

Posted by djafan on Monday, February 28, 2011

A Giving Heart

In a time when things are changing fast
And we need a light to shine
A young man comes upon the scene
And holds a steady line

With a heart that’s pure and a smile of gold
He sings of love and hope
Tells all who’ll listen to not give up
Though the future’s uncertain, he knows

Our trials and tribulations, he says
are a way to grow and learn
And the pain of today can be joy tomorrow
as our lives continue to turn

Don’t give up, It’ll be okay
We all have days we cry
But the world is full of wonderful things
If we have the courage to try

In a world where we may feel alone
a young man flips the coin
and shows us those less fortunate
in help we need to join

He says to look outside ourselves
to find those most in need
And give to them with open hand
for this our souls will feed

Poem by MT

Hello Voice Team!

We want to make sure you’re aware  of  the latest Angels For A Cause campaign to promote The Other Side of Down by bringing uplifting and hopeful music to those kids and their families dealing with medical heartache.  We had discussed doing something like this in chat one night but hadn’t figured out the logistics and then this campaign appears, it’s a perfect fit!

See below for all the details from AFAC.   There is also a link to Angels For A Cause on the right sidebar under Charities David Supports.

Music for Smiles~Touching the Hearts of Children with David’s Music ~

Angels For A Cause is proud to announce our brand new project!! We all love David’s new CD “The Other Side of Down” and it truly lifts our spirits on a daily basis when we are feeling a little down. Well, its time to share David’s music with children who need a smile and positive messages through song.  We started by contacting all the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and got a HUGE response from lots of hospitals that are SO EXCITED to receive David’s music! We have over 75 hospitals participating in this project and probably one close to where you live! They are going to use the CD’s for various things such as prizes for games, a present for a child’s birthday, a gift for a child going through a tough procedure, music therapy for anxious kids, discharge gifts and more! “Things are Gonna Get Better”  would be the perfect song for a worried child, dont you think?

So, we are all here to support David, right? Now, you can support his music while at the same time giving a sick child hope and inspiration! This project is very easy! All you have to do is purchase David’s TOSOD CD’s and have it shipped to a CMN Hospital of your choice! You can purchase 1, you can purchase 10! Its up to you! You can send to one hospital or many hospitals! This is a great way to share David’s CD as well and create new fans! We did some research and David’s CD’s are available right now for a low price online through:(prices and availability may vary)

1) Amazon $11.97 (free shipping over $25)

2) Target $12.99 (free shipping over $50)

3) Walmart $10 (WOW!)

4) Barnes and Noble $10.97 (free shipping over $25)

Or, you can purchase one at a store near you and have it shipped from your house. Or maybe you picked one up in the last week to support David and you can share those!!

Once you ship a CD to one of the hospitals below, please email your name, state, and hospital you shipped to as well as how many CD’s went there to We are going to compile a list and present to David at a later date!!! We will also update you throughout the project to let you know which hospitals are getting the CDs so far, what hospital is in the lead, and what hospitals we don’t want to forget!

Be sure to tweet what hospital you have sent your CD to and spread the word!! And leave a comment below!

In the 2nd post on the home page is a list of all the hospitals and full addresses. Be sure to include the contact person and/or department if there is one in the address when shipping so the Cd goes to the right place!!

Let’s make a difference in these children’s lives and share David’s beautiful uplifting music!

I want to give a BIG thank you hug to the 3 women who helped me make this project possible! Thank you to Jana, Stephanie, and Sharon!!

–Wendy AFAC

Hospital Addresses and Contacts

Please be sure to include the

Attn: line in the shipping address so the Cd goes to the right place!

Spanish Chat!

On a side note I want to thank all who participated in the Spanish Chat.  There were many chatting and many viewers.  Many countries were represented, Honduras, Brazil, Argentina, Columbia, and Mexico.  Forgive me if I missed your country but the chat was fast and fun, giving me some practice with my own Spanish.

David love is alive and well in the Latin world.  They love and comment  on all things David just like we do. ♥  And our English speakers did a great job in jumping into the conversation.  It does give an appreciation on how to use Google translator on the fly, not easy. 🙂

David’s Latina fans asked if we could do this again and I said sure!  So we will be having Spanish Chat on Fridays starting at about 6pm Pacific Time.  I let them know that I won’t always be there by that time but that they can get started if they want, it was a unanimous yes!  The regular Saturday Chats will continue as usual.

What a beautiful poem to read when I checked my emails! I was going to order some more cd’s from Walmart, but they’re out of stock…way to go Archie fans! A couple of months ago, they had the Deluxe album (with dvd) for $9.88. I ordered another one to have on hand. Now I wish I had ordered more. They still have them, but they are $13.88…which is still a good price. I’ll have to figure out which one I want to order. I’ll order 4 or 5 to send to KU Medical Center which is only about 10 miles away.

Back when we first discussed doing a CD donation program in January, my BFF was going through a “scare”. She had been diagnosed with a treatable cancer in her breast. When the time came for her to be biopsied she went to Women’s Lee Bell Center for Breast Imaging at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA.

Her diagnosis turned out to be false. She is cancer free. Had she needed treatment she would have gone to the Dana Farber Institute in Boston, MA.

I told my BFF about the plans to donate David’s music to hospitals as a way to bring some good music to those who sit and wait in the suites and waiting rooms. She was on board from that day. She and I have donated 2 Cd to each of these facilities. By the way, I also printed out MT’s poem ( I had an advance copy from MT ) as a way to introduce David and his style of music to the representatives at the hospital.

How can they not be impressed with beautiful words and music?

  3. Sharon said

Good Morning Everyone! Oh My Goodness!! What a wonderful way to start the day!! I just love the poem written by MT. It brought me to tears already…even before my morning coffee!! Thank you so much for sharing it with us. I think it’s a perfect poem to put with the CD’s sent to the hospitals. I would love to have it to add to CD’s that I gift and of course one to keep and read daily.

Abbra…that was a very nice thing you did to “gift” those facilities with Davids music!! Maybe another campaign would be for every women to gift a CD to their DRs. office when they get their yearly checkups!! I can just imagine the smiles hearing his music!

This is such a great campaign and Wendy
from AFAC had a great idea to spread David’s music and heart to help soothe the heartache of those many children. I hope each and every hospital on the list receives many CD’s.

Have a great day everyone!! 🙂

Oh I just love this poem MT. This was a good way to start my day. it alright if we share this poem with the CD’s we give to others?

I am going into the hospital tomorrow morning for a little surgery and plan on taking a couple CD’s to gift to nurses or whomever needs to hear David. Maybe I should give one to the doc doing the surgery prior to surgery so he will do his best work on me. HAHA!

I sure love listening to Davids new CD. It sure gives me courage to keep putting one foot in front of the other.

  10. MT said

Dja, thanks for putting this all together for us. David is such a source of inspiration and he is spreading the word that, in giving, both the both the gifter and the recipient benefit. ♥

Thanks for the all nice comments on the poem, I’m glad you all like it.

nanaweize: Thank you for asking and
YES, you (and anyone else who would like to) are more than welcome to include it with your gift CDs if you wish. The more people who read about David’s wonderful qualities, the better. 🙂

    Good Morning!

MT, Just a beautiful poem and I will be printing and sending with CD’s.

Nana, Praying for your surgery and what a great idea to have surgeon listen to TOSOD first!

I was just so excited to see this campaign from Angels For A Cause because it was something we really thought and talked about with whats going on with Pattirae, Kaycee’s daughter, Emifriend and others who need uplifting and what better way than David’s TOSOD.

Things are moving, I know the negative publicity for David regarding jive was not a happy place for me, but if I were to look at the bright side like David does interesting climb in numbers are happening since before the campaign. Thank you all!!!

We struggled for days to get this program started but we ran into roadblocks along the way. It was only when we decided to let it sit for awhile that VOILA…it took care of itself.

I was in Target yesterday and picked up 2 copies of TOSOD. There were 3 on the shelf. I thought I’d leave one there for a lucky person who buys it.

This campaign works for so many reasons. Mostly, we hope that the people who get their hands on TOSOD feel good from hearing the sound of David’s voice after hearing him sing these songs. It also makes you feel good to contribute to such worthy cause. And last, it increases sales which can only help David!

Look at those climbing numbers up there! WTG!

MT, My favorite line from your poem:

“In a world where we may feel alone a young man flips the coin and shows us those less fortunate in help we need to join”

Nanaweize, Will be thinking of you tomorrow and sending prayers your way.

Been keeping in touch with Emi’s sister. I heard from her three days ago; hope to hear from her again today. She said Emi is doing pretty well and should be out of ICU in the next day or so! That might be today! Please continue the prayers!

I love this idea and have purchased cds to send to Sparrow hospital. I too like the idea of including MT’s poem. Best wishes and prayers go to Nanaweize. Prayers continue for Pattirae, Kaycee’s daughter and Emi. Nice to see so much love from David’s fans.

Love the Poem MT !! The Angels For A Cause Project warms my heart. I’m so glad we have a cause that will benifit David’s career and of course spread his music to those in need. I sent CDs to U of Iowa and Children’s Hospital of Ill. (total 4 so far)
A holy coincidence occured this morning when a sick friend sent a letter full of the word UP and when I responded to her I found myself not only using the word UP as much as possible but couldn’t help but to think of “The Other Side Of Down” and decided to send her the album.
I may forward the letter to the Voice. I’m sure MT and the other beautiful writers here could have a Heyday with it.
Prayers for Nanaweize,Emi, Pattirae and Kaycee’s daughter. Hopefully I didn’t forget about anyone.

What a lovely thing to do. I can just visualize some little child (and her mother) feeling a lot better surrounded by the sounds of so much LOVEliness. I am snowbound this evening, my husband and family are out of town and it happens to be my birthday. (We celebrated yesterday) So I have had fun sending some (3)CDs off to Lexington’s Kentucky Children’s Hospital. Now, let’s turn to thoughts of spring…..

I’m aggravated about another story that Jive “dropped” David in the Star Magazine..and with his picture! I tried to email them with the contact email, but my computer tells me they can’t find that address. Maddening, cuz I can’t get it off my chest. lol
So, here I am airing out my feelings to someone that cares!

  21. loulou said

Jan!!Jive is not going to admit that David dropped them it might ruin there image,BoohooThe cry babies !We fans all know the truth and so does everyone that knows David.David will be just fine we will see alot more of him.I have a feeling we will see and hear him soon.

Giving these CD’s to hospitals was such a good idea. I sent 2 to the Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville, KY. It said to email angels4acause and let them know, but I couldn’t get their email address to work. So, I’m letting whoever reads this know, if someone’s keeping track of where the CD’s go.

  23. Abrra said

Star Magazine is a “rag”. They never have reliable sources for their stories. I did not read this story you speak of, but past experience tells me they do not have the facts. They make up fictitious “insiders” who share information. How close am I ?

Tabloids have always fed off half truths and lies. Nothing new.

When I’m in the supermaket I’ve been making an effort to turn away from the tabloid covers for a while until this blows over. (Was he on the cover?) I’m not surprised your email was returned. Come here and vent whenever you want.

“David will be just fine we will see alot more of him.I have a feeling we will see and hear him soon.”

I have that same feeling. Hopefully he will keep his New Year’s resolution and vlog to us more often.

This is the email address for Angels For A Cause: I sent a test email to them about half an hour ago and so far it was not returned. Please check your files to see if this is the same one you used.

MT, I enjoyed reading your lovely poem. Thank you. Dja, Thanks for putting this article together. I am so thrilled about this gifting program! I remember late one night on the voice talking about doing something like this! Who actually got it going? I will be gifting c.d.s and I am just wondering which hospitals haven’t gotten any yet. Do they keep track? I ordered c.d.s online. I think it may be good to not buy all of the copies of TOSOD that are in still in stores so that maybe someone will see TOSOD on the shelf, that doesn’t even know David has a new c.d. out, and buy it.

This is such a wonderful project. What a great way to share David’s healing and inspiring music. I’m sure it must make him incredibly happy. I remember receiving a beautiful CD from the hospital when I gave birth to my daughter (the one that so many of you have been so kind to remember in your prayers). I played that CD for years and it became one of her favorites at bedtime. With her recent health challenges, TOSOD has really blessed her with much needed peace and perspective. I love that his music will provide that same blessing to so many others because of the generosity of David’s fans.

Ironically, just today, my daughter received a beautiful gift of music in the mail from a very kind David fan. Hugs to our special friend from the Voice! Not only am I continually amazed at the man we admire, but his fans are truly incredible!

Happy Birthday, Poof! Thinking of you, Nanaweize. Beautiful poem, MT.

Just use the code word David when the buying time is right. That would be in about 1 1/2 hours? Just want to check it out…I am buying, but I might end up gifting them.

David Archuleta: ‘Life is tough, but life is good’

    Blog by Doug Fox

David Archuleta, the Season 7 runnerup on “American Idol,” will be facing some pretty big changes in the months ahead. The 20-year-old singer recently separated from his record label and his management group.

He shares some of the background behind those decisions in a recent video blog.

On Thursday, Archuleta was on hand for the announcement that he will be performing with headliner Brad Paisley at this year’s annual Stadium of Fire patriotic event on July 2 at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo. Archuleta made some brief general remarks to those in attendance at the press conference before breaking off for smaller and more formal interviews with members of the media.

I was able to sit in with two other media members for a few questions, before getting a brief one-on-one with the one-time “American Idol” sensation. During this time, when asked if there was a message he was hoping to put out with his music, Archuleta seemed to touch on the recent big changes in his musical career while talking about his optimistic nature.

“With my music, I just hope that performing this year will make people feel good — to get people thinking positively and looking at the future optimistically,” he said. “That’s just what I’ve been trying to focus on lately this last year. Even though we don’t always know where we’re going or what’s going to happen next in our lives, there’s always something to look forward to, and always a reason to stay optimistic. There’s tough times, ups and downs, but life is good. Life is tough, but life is good. That’s just the kind of thing I hope to get going, and I hope to represent Utah well to that home crowd [at Stadium of Fire].”

Angelica, sorry to hear that you’re under the weather…hope you feel better soon.

Watching Idol tonight made me miss seeing our David “do his thing” every week. Boy, were we spoiled! I couldn’t help but sneak a peak at some of his old performances…no matter how many times I watch those, I’m always blown away!

I was driving home from work today and was listening to TOSOD with my younger daughter. We were singing along to STR (her favorite) when I had to stop her and say, “Wait, let me play that part again!” So I rewound it a ways and listened again. Singing along reminded me what incredible breath support David has! His phrasing in one particular part was amazing and didn’t allow for a breath for…forever! He does it so effortlessly that I never realized it before. I remember when CFTH came out, marveling at his “Gloria runs” that seemed to go on forever without a breath.

I get so caught up in the emotions and meanings of his songs, that I often forget how vocally brilliant he is. There are moments, however, when a line or phrase will jump out and grab me and remind me what a skilled professional he is. Do any of you have a line that really hits you like that? On his first album, I always anticipated that glory note in Waiting For Yesterday. In Contigo En La Distancia, I loved the way he would adjust his volume and tone, in particular the line with “consuela”. Silent Night was done with such amazing tenderness and respect…and, “love’s pure light” was always a favorite moment. And who can forget his impromptu scatting before Works For Me in Reno (I think it was Reno). Ok, I better stop while there is still time to get a decent night’s sleep, haha, but there are so many more.

Night all, sweet dreams…sorry for the late-night rambling!

Good Morning 🙂 Munk..the “Other Side of Obsession” video is hilarious! Love starting off my day with a good laugh!

Kaycee – I know exactly what you mean about David’s phrasing. The thing is..he makes it sound so effortless. I noticed it first time I heard “Good Place”..the way he slightly hangs on to the word “space”..very subtle but so effective.

BTW..used MT’s poem in an e-mail to the representative at the CMNH in Greenville NC where I sent my CDs this week. Since I had the CDs sent directly from, wanted to share that touching poem with them as well so e-mailed her letting her know the package was forthcoming. She messaged back thanking me & commented the poem is “beautiful”. The poem is perfect to accompany the delivery of the CDs since it symbolizes where we get our inspiration.

Have an ARCHULICIOUS day everyone 🙂

  97. emmegirl said

kaycee, will be listening closely to STR today.
Because I concentrate so much sometimes on the amazingness of the voice the phrasing, and as Angelica said, wordplay, gets overlooked. The extensions of vowels and consonants and the different pronunciation of certain words really adds to the depth of his style. There is no one else out there that does that like he does.

I just wanted to let you all know that Wendy at AFAC has updated the list of hospitals and you can now see which hospitals need some CD love!! This has been an amazing outpouring of support for this campaign and all the fans have been just so awesome.
There have been approx 280 cds sent to hospitals thus far, but about 30 plus hospitals still have not had any sent to them.

If you have sent some CD’s to the hospitals….please make sure you email Wendy so that she can keep the hospital list updated!! I know many of you have been waiting to send CD’s after seeing which hospitals have not received them.

Please go to the site and see the hospitals in red that do not have any CD’s yet.
There is a number next to the hospitals in black indicating the number of CD’s sent thus far. It would be great if every hospital could have at least 4 or 5 CD’s.

I bought them for two reasons, one the obvious and the other is a bit odd. Before, if I get tickets to see David across the continent away, then 9 out of 10 times he later announces performances closer to home….So I did this for east coasters. Does that make any sense Abrra?

So I did my magic now wait and see….

SB #104–no video cameras allowed–I read it in the fine print when my confirmation printed out. However, we will see how the ninja’s work won’t we?! I don’t vid, because I’m so inept at it. I’ve even come to the point of not worrying about pix because others do such a good job of it and post them. I just wish I could have had more control over where I wanted my seats. I have a suspicion that some better seats will open up with the general sales on Friday. Oh well, it’s done, and I can relax. I hope to be able to see you (and maybe Abrra(?) 😉 out here again this summer. Utah is a completely different scene in July, and Provo is so different from SLC (much quieter, but still has lots of lodging, shopping, eating). 🙂

  106. SandyBeaches said

What row do you have Tawna? Is there an actual seating chart anywhere besides the section? Are you on the field? My husband is coming with me this time as one concert and all that travel is better made into a bit of a vacation. I forgot to put in the order until 45 minutes after sales opened. I really don’t care about the camera, not my forte actually. The ninjas have it under control usually. Going to the concert is just a tentative plan for now…

    Hi all,
I again want to thank you for making my birthday on the 28th awesome! (I was snowbound and my family was out of town.) I So want to share with you my “next day”, story,,,,,, I hope it’s not too long.
I live in Washington State on a high hill called Mt.Norway. It doesn’t usually get much snow. We live up a steep, well traveled road, then across the top of the hill on a little country road and then kind of straight down the backside of the hill on a one lane “thing” with a forty foot drop off a few feet away. Of course, half way down the bank there are some douglas firs that might catch you,,, but you get the drift….. It had snowed alot, but it was melting and I was feeling terrible about missing another day of work. I knew if, I mean, when, I made it to the top of our little road, I would be okay.
So jumping in my car, with a “Please help me lord, and David, you too!” I turned on TODOS full blast and headed for The Hill.(I had taken the studs off my car the week before, by the way).
I was absolutely terrified, screaming each time I slid a bit in the slushy snow, but I was slowly heading up the hill. The worst part of the hill is almost at the top, where it is even steeper and is angled toward the revine. I hadn’t even noticed TODOS blasting away, but just as I got to THE spot, I heard filling my car “Hang on, hang in for the ride of your life, it’s going to be alright, hold on tight.” I Am Not Lying, or even exaggerating a tiny bit!!! The next part of the song is that whiring sound and then he changes keys. So just as I broke over the top of Mt. Killing Me, David is singing “There’s something about love that breaks your heart, ohhh, it sets you free! and I was free!
I was laughing like a crazy person,,,, thank goodness no human being was there watching me!
As I have mentioned here before, I am Not a religious person,,,,,,, but,,,,,,,
    Just had to share 🙂

  122. SandyBeaches said

MT #103/116…you all can thank me anytime for my magic that always works. Yes I did tell you so and thanks MT for noticing that I had to pull out the stops and pay dearly to get things going. Anytime…

It sounds like you live in a gorgeous place, but that road sounds a little like the ‘too less traveled road’ for me. I don’t do well with drop offs. **wipes sweaty hands on pant legs** I’m glad that you made it thru. ♥♥

Okay, so the proof is in the pudding (what does that mean?)–David don’t need no big time manager to get him some singin’ gigs! Dang, this is givin’ me the fever!! My guess is that he’s going to be doing the kinds of things that he wanted to do and WEG didn’t like them. JMHO.

  128. 103.S.B! WOW! that worked like a charm

Poof— I bit all my finger nails off just reading your story!

Now I’ll probably have nightmares–I’ll just add another one to my list of recurring ones– like I can never find my car or bridges that move.

Seems to me I recall that Washington is known for its rain –how do you handle that? I have a cup that says Washington Rain Festival—-Jan.1st – Dec.31st–All year -Every year.

    PS Happy Belated Birthday 🙂

    SB, Good work! 😉

Poof, I was on the edge of my seat, reading about your snow story. Glad you made it home safely!

I knew I liked Lady V! She tweeted this one hour ago:

Ok I’m not being a hater but can someone explain how kim kardash has a deal when she can’t sing and @DavidArchie doesn’t when he’s amazing! about 1 hour ago via Twitter

Evenin’ All! So excited to hear rumblings of things to come! So curious about what’s going on behind the scenes…label/no label, management/no management, tour/no tour…scratch that…let’s make it tour/tour! Trying to be patient…really I am. Give ma a “V”, give me an “L”, give me an “O”, give me a “G”! Haha! (Never been very good at that patience thing!)

    I loved Lady V’s tweet!…and totally agree!

    Poof–glad you’re safe!
