Can you believe we have been following the little man with the big voice for three years now and he is twenty years old today? Ah..where does the time go? They grow up so fast. *sniff* He got the fan Birthday Book with all the well-wishes but feel free to again voice your hopes and happiness for David on this very special day. And don’t forget the twitter trending party today using the hashtag #HappyBDayArchie in each tweet!
I gave him his gift in Salt Lake City at the autograph signing at Deseret Book. He tried to sign it at first, of course, though there was a strict rule of no memorabilia signing. Isn’t that so like him? But I placed my hand over it and said, “No David, this is for you. Happy Birthday from all your fans at The Voice.” He held it saying, “thanks,” all the while glancing down at it with this puzzled expression on his face. As I turned to go I looked back at him and said, “It’s the Beatles Box Set from itunes.” His eyes got big and he smiled and said with such warmth and enthusiasm, “Thank you! Thank you very much!”
So thank you very much to you who lurk and post and support David in his mission to bring the gift of music through his voice and songs to the world. This is what is written on the certificate for itunes, printed on high gloss photo paper.

We had soooooo much fun! Games, singing, videos, raffles, exchange gifts and of course food. One of the best pad thai I ever tasted.

If you have any celebration left in you after Christmas and Hayley Williams’ birthday, you should raise a glass (of sparkling cider, of course) to David Archuleta. The former “American Idol” runner-up turns 20 years old today, and he has no shortage of things to celebrate. Born in Florida but raised in a suburb of Salt Lake City, Utah (he moved there when he was six years old), Archuleta got interested in singing early on and ended up performing in public for the first time at age 10 (he sang “I Will Always Love You” at a talent competition).
From there, he slowly set about establishing a career for himself, competing on “Star Search” when he was 12 years old. He parlayed those appearances into a handful of other television appearances, but obviously got the biggest boost of his career when he was finally old enough to audition for “American Idol.”
Archuleta dazzled the judges during an “Idol” audition in San Diego in 2007 with a rendition of John Mayer’s “Waiting on the World to Change” (the song famously inspired Randy Jackson to join in on backing vocals). He scored a ticket to Hollywood to compete as a semi-finalist on the show’s seventh season. That run also featured notable “Idol” contestants like David Cook (who eventually defeated Archuleta on the show’s final episode), Carly Smithson (now the lead singer of Evanescence offshoot band We Are the Fallen), Brooke White and Jason Castro. Despite all those heavy hitters, Archuleta managed to wow the judges (and the viewing audience) time and again, and his renditions of John Lennon’s “Imagine,” Robbie Williams’ “Angels” and Elton John’s “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” are the stuff of “Idol” legend.
Since then, Archuleta has dropped three albums (two originals plus a Christmas album). One of his defining moments remains “A Little Too Not Over You,” from his self-titled 2008 album.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVID ARCHULETA!
The young man I dubbed “The Chosen One” on American Idol’s Seventh Season amazingly turns 20 today.
I could write a whole book just on my David memories, of which there have been many many over the years (and many of them will be found in my upcoming book). Everyone who was present in the Idoldome that will forever remember him as a genuine take your breath away powerful performer.
One of the most terrifying experiences of my Idol career was when I took my life in my hands and watched a David performance from the mosh pit. At the time I wrote:
They say that when you are near the center of a hurricane it sounds like a locomotive roaring straight toward you. Well, when you are in the mosh pit during a David Archuleta performance it sounds like a hurricane about to level you to your foundations, break through your levee, flood your basements and render your neighborhood uninhabitable for generations. The shrieking starts at the first mention of his name. It increases when his face appears projected on the screen and explodes when The Chosen One steps onto the stage. Girls jump up and down, bubble over in tears and scream, I love you! throughout his time on stage. At the breaks, he waves to the screamers with his trademark Aww, cut it out, you guys!” impossible-not-to-love embarrassed grin. Being in the center of this whirlwind of ecstasy is not an experience a grownup should dive into unprepared, although many ladies of a certain age in the pit seemed to get pretty well carried away by it.
David always seemed both wise and innocent beyond his years. On the tour after s7 I talked with him about growing up on stage, and will always recall the touching answer he gave:
When I ask him how at his age he became so committed to and serious about music instead of the more frivolous concerns of most youths, David gives an extremely touching answer that gets me more than a little choked up. Of singing, he tells me: Ive just always loved to do it. He tells me how hes never felt comfortable or natural at expressing himself in words and conversation, but that he learned early that with music he could make people understand what he was feeling and what was going on inside him. And you dont even have to get the words right. If you sing they can connect with you, he added.
It was as though he grew up far beyond his years on stage, while in real life, he struggled to keep up, stumbling to find the words.
And then there was one of the greatest adventures on my Idol journey, getting trapped in an elevator with the Archuleta family, the siblings singing throughout our hour long ordeal. To this day, I have never met a nicer more heartwarming bunch than the Archuletas. And in that I include his father Jeff, who was always a truly considerate gentleman with me.
Since Idol, David has gone on to record some fantastic songs and whenever I see him, when he comes back to visit the Idoldome I am awestruck at how through it all he has retained the almost supernatural sweetness that has won him so many fans, as strong off-stage as on.

I also want to say that Abrra and Angelica gave me so much support and help to get the book to print form and finished, that I don’t know what I would have done without them. I called and emailed Angelica so much, but her patience was always there for me. Even while I stood at the printer’s counter to give them the link for the book, she re-did the last page of the book in three versions, and it was then complete. You can all see the beautiful designs she created for the first and last pages.
Thank you Angelica for surprising me by making the post from an email I sent to the Saturday lunch people. I’m so glad everyone likes it – the book was very special and I think David could see that. Thank you to all for writing your 1100+messages!! I want everyone to know that Shelley started the email group card for all of use to share our birthday wishes for David.

So thanks! 🙂 I hope it stands alongside his journals when he passes them down to his children and grandchildren.
You know, I can really see David getting a lot from studying the Beatles, especially the song writing of team Lennon/McCartney. The songs are catchy, fun, uplifting, quirky, positive, not overly romantic or schmaltzy, yet the ballads are beautiful. They produced a ton of great songs that just make you feel good and often had depth and meaning.

Meant to answer your question earlier. I have spell check on my computer at home in the comments using Mozilla Firefox. But at work using IE, no spell check. I am a big fan of Firefox as a browser and it is so compatible with WordPress. Also the Voice Unplugged works much better if you are using Firefox as your browser. Hope that helps.

Djafan…you hold great responsibility you know. We will be looking forward to hearing from you as soon as it is possible.
Interviews, especially television interviews are different now. There seems to be an urgency to have questions answered and you hear the cameras snapping pictures simultaneously as we see in comment #26. The Christmas concerts I know took the audiences to another place in music and now he is being given the tremendous respect and recognition that all accomplished musicians are given.

David Archuleta turned 20 today and to celebrate he was on Good Day LA talking about his upcoming show in Las Vegas. Actually the on air crew told him Happy Birthday, but he was there to talk about his upcoming gig in Las Vegas, Nevada. The runner up of the reality show American Idol is excited aobut his upcoming gig Friday night where he will be performing live (on the East coast segment of the show) during ‘New Year’s Eve Live.’ The event, a celebration of the year approaching is a great chance for thousands across America to see the entertainer.
Telling the Good Day LA host that he isn’t much of a partier, Archuletta shares that he doesn’t have much interest in going into party places as he is much quieter than most people his age. There definitely was a certain stage of innocence in the interview, despite the anchors who wanted to see if they could challenge the entertainer on how late Archuleta was going to stay up because he looks so young.
There was a portion of the interview where David discusses his ‘type of love song. Sharing that he hasn’t been in a relationship he wrote a song wondering what it would be like to be in one and if he had already found the perfect person but just didn’t know it.

Well I hope all you Beetle maniacs :)…caught Sir Paul being honored at the Kennedy Center tonight, just about 30 mins ago on the telly…
..it’s what brought me back here now ..tho’ I haven’t fully articulated to myself what I felt watching..I’ll try to make some sense…………….
As I watched the best of the best, honor one of THE BEST…the music and tribute and reaction of the audience was all moving (heck they looked like us all at a David concert!)…the roar of the audience, in what seemed like multi-generations standing, cheering, singing along..like watching a collective “got it” that this was music & a voice of all our generation and then some..you could see on their faces how this music had meant so much to so many…and it was a shared moment to take all that in together.
I immediately thought of the connection to this post today…(if I can bring something back to David, I never miss the chance.)
I thought that gift to David “Perfect.” this morning…even more so now.
I know many who would think we “crazy David nuts” are stretching to draw any comparisons here…but I think not so much..
David’s constant message of “the power of music” to touch, inspire, lift people, make them think…bring them joy…the beauty of emotions expressed in poetry set to music that makes a kind of magic. The talent and gift that is. That was celebrated at the Kennedy Center tonight.
David gets it. David gives that. THE VOICE of his generation. …yet also touching the generation that cut our teeth on the likes of the Beetles. THE VOICE for everyone.
The people who gather here, and honor David in their own heartfelt and creative ways get it.
…call me crazy, but I see so much more than the “star-struck” fans some see among us.
I dunno…I just guess I felt some kind of “full-circle” moment in all this today…the Beetles anthology gift to David, then Paul honored tonight…and just feeling the power of music..

I know I sometimes fangirl over David, it’s hard not to when he’s so gorgeous. But, David is such an puzzle. So many pieces to put together. There are moments when I’m simply amazed by his musical brilliance. Other moments, I’m literally awwwwwed by his sweetness. Then there are moments where he appears to be every single day of those twenty years and seems very “grown up.” Sometimes I could just sit and stare and wonder how he could be so beautiful, inside and out.
I think it’s a puzzle that he’s still piecing together and when it’s done, it’s going to be spectacular. And when that time comes, I’ll still be here with you guys, supporting, admiring, and fangirling. LOL

Hey All! Hope everyone is having a wonderful Holiday Season. Excited for David over the next few days! I just had to hop on here and share my surprise from earlier this week when I took my daughter to Ruby Tuesdays for lunch. As we were waiting for a table, she smiled and pointed to the speakers…The Other Side of Down (the song) was playing! We couldn’t believe it! We haven’t heard any songs from the new album on the radio, so we were beyond excited! The album has become really special to my daughter as she has been going through a lot this past month–such great uplifting messages and such a positive vibe.

This wasn’t the kindest of years to American Idol in terms of CD sales.
David Archuleta: “The Other Side of Down”
This was the toughest pick on the list. Should the honor go to Jason Castro’s hit-and-miss debut because of a few golden moments or to David’s second album for being solid from beginning to end. In the end, I chose David. Jason’s album relied on golden moments from Idol to make it more palatable; David put out a better sophomore album than his debut. He had a hand in writing more of the material, too, with credits on 10 of the 12 songs. And it’s just so darn upbeat and … well, David being David. It’s just a shame the sales numbers for the album haven’t been more upbeat to this point.

#93 BeBe: Love the vids from Michael, Brooke, and Benton’s concert. I was particularly impressed with Proud Mary; the way David approached the edge of the stage and got the audience to participate, and the fact that he was so respectful and didn’t try to overshadow the others. There were times when Michael wanted him to sing and you can see David passes the mike in front of his mouth then pulls it away so he cant be heard. Ahhh … that voice is so full and rich and unmistakeable, it could easily have stolen the show.
I do love the way the whole atmosphere in that place changed the moment he took the stage. Even the performers seemed more charged with David there!! Not that Brooke, Michael and Benton aren’t talented, just not quite at David’s level.
Hmm… then again, maybe I’m just biased toward this talented young man. Not ashamed of it either. 🙂

The decision to give David a birthday gift from the fans at The Voice was a joint one among all the admins. They all liked my idea and we decided that Angelica would deliver the certificate to David at the M&G in SLC. All 4 were equally involved. I wanted to correct any misconception that it was just Angelica and myself. I want to tell you how tickled we all were to give him something that will last him forever. If he ever decides to cover a Beatles song, it will be so much more meaningful to the fans here at The Voice.

I know you may not see this, but I just wanted to “warn” you that tonight is going to be more than just another Awesome David concert! He just had a birthday, right? Which means there will be some big surprises tonight! There HAS to be! I was remembering his Atlanta Jingle Jam concert when the band surprised him with a birthday cake for his 18th birthday whic was coming up later that month. They put a “trick candle” on it & David kept trying to blow it out! It was hilarious! David was such a great sport & so touched when the audience sang Happy Birthday to him. (I was there)!
Anyway, DON”T SAY I DIDN”T WARN YOU! I think it’s going to be EPIC & a night to remember in more ways than one!

I remember how A M A Z E D we all were when David just up & sang a Christmas song A Capella at the end of each of his Jingle performances that year! I mean, WHO does that? He was the youngest, newest performer in those concerts but not one of the others did or could do that! But then, none had The Voice to do what David could do. It was then that we were wishing & hoping for a Christmas album & he aimed to please in a big way the next year with CFTH. So many great memories David has given us from his AI auditions to the present. He’s always amazing & we are always amazed!

He hasn’t sung Look Around or Good Place which are my favorites except for Falling Stars and TOSOD and My Kind of Perfect. Seriously, Look Around is my #1 favorite. Have you ever noticed that when he gets to the part..

Ha! Angelica! That’s funny because Look Around is MY favorite from TOSOD song too. The lyrics are so powerful! They kind of “smacked me” out of my oblivion one day when I was having a bad day & thinking “is this all there is”? I loved David’s voice on the song but then I paid attention to the lyrics and got SMACKED right upside my head! Look Around told me to pay attention to what’s good in my world & stop feeling sorry for myself! The lyrics are the most powerful of all the songs, IMO. I just LOVE it!
BTW, the Beatles Box Set was a great gift choice for David. There’s not one Beatle song David would not do justice to. 😉

So excited for David and the band… the show tonight is going to be, once again, an exceptional performance.
For us on the East coast, it seems like forever till the actual show-time!
So… to pass the time, I just logged onto “The Grove” website. Here is the show info:

David Archuleta won the hearts of America after his second place finish on the seventh season of American Idol. Yesterday I went to my grandson John’s wedding. With 40 grandchildren I really don’t recall the dates of any other weddings. But thanks to David, I will always remember John’s anniversary.

Saw Julie Andrews interviewed on the Oprah Show with the entire cast of Sound of Music. Oprah asked her when she “knew” she had a gift. She said, “When I was about seven”. I really loved how she embraces and is comfortable stating the true fact that she has a gift. Hoping David will feel that comfortable some day.

I speak and write in the name of my own interests.
This week I read the opinions of Melinda, about cellcast. She wrote, “David does not like cellcast and disagree with them.”
It is as thin layer of ice that is about david?, Nobody wants to step on it and say, “David is not the right decision”
I wonder, is it true that David thinks that way? is true that David takes these decisions? David knows that thanks to cellcast, we have heard a concert from the other side of the world, ”
If I’m wrong, I apologize, but I think David is not involved in these things and the issue of cellcast, is a matter of melinda.
I’m reading, besides the cellcast, there are also restrictions on the public videos filmed at the concerts. Of course, always clarify that this prohibition claim is “at the request of the artist!
I’ve always known that David does not like the VIP cellcast, by people paid to be there.
I remember there was a concert, and David asked not to take pictures.
Melinda also speak of “violating private content” when they mention a concert, an event, a performance, a promotion, not private, is completely public.
We are not violating any rule, or publishes, or private.
For us, the Latino fans, who live away from David and we can not attend a concert, david videos are like water in an oasis.
The person who took these decisions so restrictive, I repeat, do not think it david, this person never thought of us, fans from other countries.
For us it is the only way to see a concert, it is impossible to see David live. Money is a big obstacle, the only possibility is the Internet.
If we remove this possibility, what remains for us? nothing.
Once JIVE fans asked us to do our work, and that they would do theirs.
We did all the work we could. The blog davidarchuletargentina, could make “something bout love” in the ranking of the top 40 after a long vote and vote.
We try, which David is known in Argentina and have a larger base of fans, then David could think of ever visiting.
I hope they change some rules and decisions. There are few things in life that can get us a smile, and David is one of them.

I believe your concerns are being addressed as we can see from the photos Melinda herself & Kari are taking. I think they have realized it is & always has been beneficial for David & his fans on a global scale to have videos/photos of David’s concerts/events. It is the ONLY link other than his CD’s between David & his international fans. To prohibit videos would be, IMO, a huge mistake. As the saying goes, out of sight, out of mind. Not to mention, it would have a negative impact on some of his fan-sites who don’t have the great writers on staff like The Voice does, but even so, videos are essential for his fansites.
So if tonight is any indication, videos & photos will never be a thing of the past!

Thanks to Jwipe for the twitcast. It was very much appreciated. The sound was really clear…but someone HAD to have taken video. Someone tweeted that a huge camera seemed to be videotaping the concert, so maybe we will have a “legal” video of the whole concert?? Fingers crossed!
The concert ended way too quickly but David was awesome as always!

Gladys: I agree with SF, I don’t think we’ll have to worry too much. David’s devoted fans who go to concerts know what it is like to be the one who is NOT there. They know how important it is to each of us and I think there will always be people at his concerts that want to share the experience.

Just got back from the Grove in Anaheim. David was in awesome form tonight. What a long set he sang! My 23 year old son is home from college on break and I ‘dragged’ him to the show. He had a great time. Some observations from my son: “He’s the best singer I’ve ever heard live.” “He really feels the music. I teared up a few times.” “That song ‘Angels’ was unbelievable!” “I’d love to hear him do an acoustic set.” “I’d go again.” 🙂
As for me, I had a great time! David and the band were cooking and it’s so fun to see the way David’s whole body gets into the music. (for me, though, the sound balance wasn’t optimal. All of the instruments were very loud – often overpowering David’s voice.) But, I’m guessing that the volume/balance is a very contemporary sound, so I’m not complaining. I think this was a great lead in to David’s New Year’s eve performance.
And, might I echo what has been said about David’s fans? Everyone was very nice and the people at our table were very friendly.
Oddly enough, I bumped into some friends that I haven’t seen in several years. So funny to see them there. She is also a singer. Gotta say, David is a singer’s singer.

Gladys: The consensus is that The Grove had their own policy on taking pictures and videos. I’m hopeful. Some videos pop up on youtube a week or more after the concert date.
By the way, at last count there were 769 fans at the cellcast!

Silverfox: Thank you for the pics you posted last night and for the "Angels" this morning. Is it just me or does anyone else notice a difference in David's voice last night? Deeper, richer, more powerful…something. And listening to him speak in between songs was a real treat. He was so comfortable with his audience. He knows we love him.

Just stopped by to say how AWESOME it is that the huge birthday book was delivered to David. Thank you Marciami and everyone else that helped put it together. My message was in there also, don’t remember what I wrote, though, but all that matters is that David reads it and knows of my existence.
As an international fan I can’t tell you how important the concert videos and cellcasts are to me. I’d have no idea at all what it’s like to hear/see David live if it weren’t for the lovely ninjas who tirelessly and selflessly capture the magic of the Voice on tape (not that it can ever be captured – everyone should be able to be there live). I’ve been hearing the goss about the upcoming tour, and I hope it’s before May, ’cause after that I can’t fly 😛
It’s like, yes I’m overjoyed about this baby but darn it if David’s tour is during my last trimester 😀 JK.

Omgdavid, from the looks of last nights audience many more males of all ages are finding David is an all around magnificent singer and performer. Just the beginning.

Actually, I was able to meet all three of the above super women, and also Djafan too. All so special in their own ways and I feel so blessed to have met them all and to have shared such an amazing event with David and the MoTab with them. It was a majical week for all of us. I miss it so much, but last nights little cell cast by JWIPE was so classic, especially when over 700 of his fans were trying to get his attention that he had his mute on. I was ROFL, it was so hillarious!! We never give up, do we?

Shawna…It was wonderful to spend time with you and Pattirae, Claudia and everyone else who joined us on several of the occasions. I remember a very nice woman who sat behind us for one of the concerts. She was a bit amused by all of us and our attraction to the guest singer. After ‘Silent Night’ she had more tears in her eyes than the rest of us, but then again she was hearing his awesome voice for the very first time. We didn’t need to say anything after that. We were all so proud of his magnificent performances.
We will see you again in SLC, we loved it there and yes it was so magical.

Hi everyone, not sure anyone else has mentioned David’s ‘Elvis moment’ last night. I think that his jacket and the stage lights were very warm. After only the 1st song David was perspiring and he said, “I sweat a lot.” Someone from the stage crew gave him a towel to wipe his face. Later, though, I think (from my vantage point) that one of the fans in the front offered David their black linen napkin to use to wipe his face. I believe he did and returned it to the fan. Shades of Elvis.

EXCLUSIVE: David Archuleta Says He’ll Spend his First New Year’s Eve Away from his Family

David Archuleta is all grown up. During season 7 of American Idol he may have been one of the youngest contestants ever to compete, but the pop star just turned 20 on Tuesday. And to top things off, on December 31st, when he performs alongside Travie McCoy for FOX’s New Year’s Eve Live at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, he’ll be spending his first New Year’s Eve away from his family.
“They’ll be back home celebrating with each other,” says Archuleta when asked if he would be joined by his family at the Mandalay Bay on NYE. “Last year I was with my aunt and cousins, so I guess it was still family. So yeah, this will be the first time [away],” he explains.
The singer admits it’s not easy being away from your loved ones during the holidays, but adds that it’s something he’s had to get used to in his career. “I love being with family,” he says. “Especially now with all the traveling and stuff, you’re not at home as much, so you don’t get to see them all that often. I try to make an effort to see them as much as I can.”
This will not, however, be Archie’s first time in Vegas. “Actually, I have been there a lot,” he says. “Because we would go to Las Vegas as a family for vacation and I also have family in Las Vegas too.”
The live special, which will be broadcasting from the famous Times Square ball drop in New York City, and the Mandalay Bay, will air on FOX and is being hosted by Nancy O’Dell. Archuleta says he’s not sure which songs he’ll be performing for the show.
“I tend to change my mind,” he says with a laugh. “But I’ll be performing a couple of songs from my new album, The Other Side of Down. I plan to sing a song called, ‘Elevator.’ They asked me to keep it uptempo, so I’m just going to do it in a ‘David’ way.”

Hello all. Well I had plans to go see David in Anaheim but all that fell through because of illness. Last night I sat at home feeling sick in my body and sick in my heart because of the no-video policy. I got a glimmer of hope when Melinda twitted the pics. and because
It was stated that it was venue policy. Well today it was the same thing in Henderson. No videos allowed. Don’t like this at all. No sir, not one bit.
