“Spreading Christmas Joy Around” with David Archuleta
Posted by bebereader on Monday, December 13, 2010
¶There was no mistaking that velvety rich voice singing, “Riu Riu Chiu” when I entered the Brewster Hill Deli yesterday to get a sandwich. The store was crowded and I almost couldn’t hold back. I wanted to shout:
“EXCUSE ME!
DO YOU KNOW WHO IS SINGING THIS SONG?”
But that’s what I would have done about two years ago, when I couldn’t contain myself and had to talk about David to everyone I met. This time I played dumb.
Me: Is this the radio or piped in music?
Deli worker: No, it’s my boss’ cd. Can I help you?
(completely forgetting where I was, why I was there, my name…)
Me: Do you know who is singing this song?
Deli worker: No. What can I get you?
Me: Oh! #8, the Balboa sandwich, mustard on the side. Please.
She was just doing her job but her attitude bothered me. She almost didn’t get the ‘please.’ As I waited for my lunch, strains of David singing “Ave Maria” filled the entire store…
Me: This is David Archuleta. Do you know him?
Deli worker: (handing me my lunch) The kid from American Idol? I didn’t know he sang Christmas songs.
(duh)
Me: (shameless promotion) He sings Christmas songs and a whole lot more. He put out a Christmas album last year. That’s what your boss is playing. He has a new pop album out now called “The Other Side Of Down”….blah blah blah….” 😀
Last year I gifted several copies of Christmas From The Heart to local stores in my neighborhood including United Parcel Service, a manicure shop, a dentist’s office, a small clothing shop and two sandwich shops, including The Brewster Hill Deli. You can imagine how delighted I was to hear David’s voice when I came into the store.
Gifting CFTH has it’s advantages. It spreads David’s music, it boosts sales, and it also makes you feel good. It’s time to start gifting again. Most places will gladly welcome a cd donation, unless they only play pre-packaged music. But you can also donate the cd to libraries, schools, hospitals and other institutions in your area.
David sings Christmas like nobody else.

Thanks for the laugh, Miz Optimum. A large coffee combined with Oh Holy Night Cleveland courtesy of Wanda knocked me on the floor but your deli sandwich brought me back from beyond! Have a great day all, it’s snowing in Asheville. Our children refuse to be educated this winter ALREADY.

Don’t we all love it when we are shopping and one of his songs comes on. When we hear a song, well I stop for a minute or so because I do not want to be disrespectful and walk away into the noise.
I love the snow on The Voice! We just lost our snow here in Nova Scotia due to warm weather from the Carribean, so a weather watcher told us. Mild for the moment, but talk of snow coming along for next weekend.
I do not believe that the sitting Kitty is too happy dressed as Santa! But hey there…Spread the Joy!! Your gifting has made a difference, it was a great idea!!

Bebereader, Good idea. I don’t know why I never thought of giving copies to businesses. Last year I gave out 12 copies to friends and relatives, and this year, so far, I’ve given 5. I’m running out of people to give to, but now, thanks to you, I have a whole new catagory.

Bebe! Love all the gifting of CFTH.
It’s been a fight to the death (ok, that’s an exaggeration, lol) every day at work between David’s cd and Luther’s cd. It was straight David for quite awhile, then one person brought her fave in. So we share the music.
I have to respect her choice so she will respect mine. And Luther has a beautiful voice.
But David’s was made for Christmas music. 🙂
Off to work now.
It’s 8 degrees.

I just got a call from a relative in Utah near SLC. She said the weather was actually a little warm and there wasn’t any snow. Hopefully, it will stay that way until next week. She also said that the seating goes very fast because there are several doors to go through. Just look at your ticket and it will tell you which door.
I got my David related gift for the luncheon. I think it’s perfect. Don’t forget to wear your blue wrist band!

Great article! I gifted CFTH last year to family and friends and was surprised to get a great response. Gave one to my Mom, too, who was a die hard Cook fan during idol. She played David’s CD practically nonstop during the month of Dec. She loves it!!
And that cat!!! hahaha I was soooo enjoying the article, and then totally lost all train of thought with that cat. I literally busted out laughing. Thanks for my first good laugh of the day. 😀

There seems to be some interest in the weather here in Utah so I’m posting these links to the weather pages of local news stations. Those interested can check to see what can be expected this week. I usually rely on KSL. Let’s hope they’re right because the other two channels predict some snow Friday and/or Saturday. They all agree we’re going to have a snow storm Tuesday night into Wednesday. You might want to check these pages to see what changes are made in their predictions. Hope this helps with travel plans!

Bebe, love this. You are so much fun and so creative and thanks for the great idea to give to businesses and restaurants. Still gifting to friends and family but once done with that will move on to doing that.
Claudiacb and I are going to all 4 concerts and to all the luncheons, the brunch and to the CD signing. Pattirae will be joining us for the Friday lunch, the Saturday and Sunday concerts and the Saturday luncheon.
I am looking to the west outside my office window and it almost looks like that Tuesday storm is trying to come in earlier. Looking kinda gray out there.
Oh, by the way, I went to the Conference Center on my way to work this morning to look at where my seats are and a hostess and I talked the whole time. Anywhere you sit in that beautiful building you will be just fine. Also, you do not have to wear dresses. Nice dress pants so that you can wear warm clothes and not freeze to death while waiting in line are just fine, and she even said they would not turn anyone away for what they might be wearing. They frown on levis, but you wouldn’t be turned away. It really is a beautiful Conference Center and you would want to be in nice clothes or you might feel out of place, but I was relieved to hear dress pants were fine. Just thought I might pass that on. I thought I wore them last year, but this old mind of mine couldn’t quite remember.

Giftings and donations are the most practical ideas to promote David, and you won’t get to see rolling eye balls cause people always like to get free gifts. By opening the doors and windows to non- fans, we create the chances to let people find the greatest singer in the world themselves.
I can feel the excitement building in the air for this week’s big David event. Hope you guys have safe journeies to Salt Lake city.

Cb…We will see you at the luncheon on Saturday!
Should have packed but slept, then the near hurricane winds woke me up with the heavy rain. There are streets evacuated around us as trees have fallen and I am ready with the water in the bath tub preparation and some for the tree set aside!!
What is this weather all about?
Tomorrow, oh the list just increased! Forget the rest of the wrapping, it will have to take care of itself, haha. This is the most difficult time of the year to go and see David so far away. Yes family and friends, get togethers, I am off to a place called Salt Lake City and hope that a snowstorm doesn’t finally come along and then I will be spending Christmas with SF and her sis and that’s all good!! Don’t fret Abrra I am just living in my crazy world for now…
Short story…I was buying a pair of boots (like there will be snow!!), and the owner of the shoe store (I taught him to read and write when he was 5) was chatting with me (his primary teacher), and I told him where I was going during our chat. He said, “at least you are going to a place that is hot!” Oh my dear little primary student I needed to teach you your geography much better. I mentioned to him that no matter how mild it will be I am expecting that the snow capped mountains will still be snow capped and usually it is not this warm. There are ski hills there!!
Time for some sleep, past time.

Thanks for a fun post to get the festive season off to a great start. Tis the season to be giving and what better way to express it than by giving the joy of David’s angelic voice? I was at my beauty shop this week for some routine maintenance, and they were playing Christmas carols the whole time. I’m not saying it was bad but, bah humbug comes to mind. Everywhere I go in the mall I hear the same secular, dance-driven hot mess. Am I right? We need to put the reason back in the season and David’s CFTH does just that. He also sounds incredible. Preaching to the choir, I know, but can I get a witness? So tomorrow I think I’ll be taking a page from your book Bebe, starting with my hairdresser. 😉

Bringing this post over from Soul David… Having David in San Diego was really fun for me but let me add that last night’s show was one of the best I have ever attended… and I have had my share!!
HG, you asked for more details so here goes…especially after a good night’s sleep because last night I wasn’t sure where I was after that spectacular evening. As I think about it now, the most significant thing that I realized was that there was no screaming during most of the songs! The audience sat through the whole show when I thought everyone would be on their feet for the duration. I think it was the acoustic nature that did that. We have often talked about full on acoustic shows for David and I know he has done several. All I can say is if we had to be resigned to only acoustic David then I would take that life sentence with open arms! Maybe it was from not having seen him live for a while that did me in but I found myself getting emotional during Crush, My Kind of Perfect and The First Noel. No screaming just David in his vocal purity that made me realize that yes, all this insanity for one performer was, well…worth it! As to the venue, Anthology is usually a very hip, upscale supper club with table seating on the floor and booths on the side plus a wonderful, although pricey menu. They took out the tables, did in line seating to accommodate more and had box lunches for the price of a good cocktail. A bit of a change for me since I have been to Anthology several times (Natalie Cole, Manhattan Transfer, Kris Allen (yes, Kris Allen) but it was ok because there were only 400 people there. The rest of the show was a complete knockout too. Orianthi was cool, Ryan Star…omg this man has talent and owned his show. Check him out. Sara was brilliant and closed with Gravity. Talk about a musical orgasm…(from sing off…not my line (darn!) I guess those are all of the details I can come up with for now…

Beautiful David! Great videos! Gorgeous photos! Thanks to all who make it possible for the rest of us to keep up with David & his performances. David has the best fans in the world!
Getting ready to meet my sis & SB in Utah! I was scheduled to fly out early tomorrow, but there is a fierce ice storm coming so the airline suggested I change my flight to today, so I’m also leaving on a jet plane this afternoon! Will arrive in SLC at midnight…**yawn**.
The things we do just to see The MTC in concert! Oh yeah & that guy too…what’s his name?
Can’t wait to see Djafan & finally meet so many others!
To all who are traveling to SLC, be safe & take care!

Here’s the American Idol interview, from this morning!
The Other Side of David Archuleta
December 15, 2010 | 10:17 am PT
Season 7’s popular runner-up, David Archuleta, just released a new album, he’s performing on FOX’s NEW YEAR’S EVE LIVE, and he has a big birthday coming up. The Murray, Utah native opened up exclusively to AmericanIdol.com about his New Year’s Eve performance, his inspirations, and more.
David released his latest album, The Other Side of Down, in October. He said, “Having a new album out has been really great. I’m enjoying performing again and it’s nice to get to play new songs.” David has also participated in many holiday concerts around the country and he said, “It’s been amazing getting to see many of my fans.”
On Friday, December 31st at 11pm, David will join multi-platinum recording artist Travie McCoy at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas for FOX’s NEW YEAR’S EVE LIVE. He hinted, “I’ll be performing a couple of new songs from The Other Side of Down. They are up-tempo songs because we want to keep it fun on New Year’s Eve.” David’s favorite New Year’s memories “are the times I spent with my family. I enjoy that. We’d watch the fireworks and New Year’s celebrations on TV—nothing too intense. It’s surreal and funny to be on the other side of it now. You watch these shows as part of your tradition, and it’s going to be really cool to be a part of someone else’s now.”
What does 2011 hold for David? Many of the fans in the Idol Community wanted to know about his touring plans, and David said, “Yes, I plan on touring in 2011, and hopefully tour internationally.” Several community members wondered if David will come to Asia again and he shared, “I’m really hoping to go to Asia again very soon. I recently went to Singapore and the Philippines, and I’m hoping to go to more countries this time around.”
On December 28th, David will no longer be a teen! How does the singer plan on celebrating his 20th birthday? “I will be spending Christmas with my family, and on my birthday I’m going to be working! I’m sure I’ll have some time to do something fun. I have a show in California on December 29th, so I will spend most of my birthday rehearsing and participating in interviews. I’ll still have fun though!”
David co-wrote 9 of the 12 songs on The Other Side of Down. He said his inspirations for writing songs are “my own thoughts and experiences. It’s cool being able to write about my personal experiences. It’s fun getting to tell your own story and to let people know who you are. On this album I show my fun and goofy side.” Of all the tracks on the album, which is David’s favorite to perform live? “The title track—‘The Other Side Of Down’—is fun to perform. I also like performing ‘My Kind Of Perfect.’ It’s a David love story. I’ve never been in a relationship, so it’s about finding that special someone out there.”
Community member 0o0bluedots0o0 wondered if David plans on recording a Spanish version of his first single, “Crush.” David revealed, “I want to record an entire Spanish album, and it’s something I want to do soon. I’m half Honduran, so it would be a great way for me to give back to that culture.”
Some of the most popular songs in 2010 have been duets. Frogcooke wondered if David would consider doing a duet and collaborating with someone unexpected. He stated, “There are a lot of cool duets right now. It would be kind of fun to do something different and out there. I love Natasha Bedingfield and I have a great respect for her. I also love Sara Bareilles. Nicki Minaj might be too out there, but it could be fun!”
To all of David’s devoted and passionate fans he says, “Thank you so much for your continued and consistent support. Coming to my shows and listening to my music means the world to me. As musicians and performers, we just want people to enjoy and listen to our music. Thanks for letting us be heard in an effort to share what we love.”
Be sure to watch David as he rings in 2011 on FOX’s NEW YEAR’S EVE LIVE!
David Archuleta returned to the Idol stage during Season 9 to perform “Imagine” in honor of Lennon/McCartney Songbook Week. View photos of his performance.

RT @ITTO88 “His voice is so pure. I mean, this is going to be a way better concert than Natalie Cole last year.” <—direct quote.

RT @ITTO88 Of course, at this point I was trying so hard 2 control the squeeing that I was doing on the inside when she said all this to me.

If you haven’t yet watched the two videos in #79 that JR posted from David’s recent visit to Manila, you’re missing out! He names four songs that would not have made it to TOSOD had he not stepped forward to push back the date of release. Which four?
1) STR
2) WIA
3) FS
4) GP

David Archuleta talks to Salt Lake Tribune about MoTab concerts
“Singer-songwriter, “American Idol” finalist and Murray native David Archuleta will join the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square for their annual Christmas concerts, titled “Christmas With the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square.”
In an interview, Archuleta (who turns 20 on Dec. 28) said he began rehearsing with the Choir Tuesday, and admitted being star-struck. As a child he grew up listening to “Music and the Spoken Word” broadcasts, and day-dreaming about how “cool [it would] be to be in the Choir, especially for the Christmas shows,” he said.
When Archuleta was approached earlier this year, he was surprised, and said, “There was a little bit of time when I freaked out.” And then when he rehearsed with them for the first time, he said he told himself, “Wow.” He continued: “You feel so small. It was humbling.” Archuleta’s biggest challenge, he said, is to “complement all those other voices and instruments,” and to avoid being “self-indulgent.”
He considers this to be one of the highlights of a signing career that has only just begun. After tonight’s performance, he will be the downtown Deseret Book (45 W. South Temple) from about 9:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. signing copies of his latest album, “The Other Side of Down.”
When • Friday, Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, Dec. 19 at 10 a.m.
Where • Conference Center, 60 W. North Temple, Salt Lake City
Tickets • Free, but patrons are required to have a ticket given out during a random selection process earlier in the year. Standby tickets for those without tickets will not be issued. However, patrons are invited to stand by for last-minute seating each evening and on Sunday morning. The standby line will form at the North Gate on Temple Square at 6 p.m. for the evening performances and at 7:30 a.m. for the Sunday broadcast.”

What a thrill it must be for you to meet new fans whose screen names will finally come to life this week. I read that each show will have 21,000 in attendance. If there are any audience members who are unfamiliar with David, they are sure to be fans by the time the show is over.
SB and SF, Are you there yet? Please let us know when you arrive!
Safe travels to those still enroute to SLC and to those leaving tomorrow including AF4L, djafan and Angelica. May the weather cooperate for the most pleasurable experience.
We, at The Voice, will be here, ready and happy to receive news, pics, videos and anything else you care to share.
This video is a combination of several interviews while David was in Manila. I never tire of watching these. The last one is especially good. Enjoy!

Arrived in SLC last night and staying with my sister. What a beautiful scene I was able to wake up to this morning. Snow in the mountains and on the ground really brought the Christmas spirit into my heart. I’m so excited for the concert tonight! I’m having a hard time being patient. 🙂
Looking forward to hopefully meeting some of you. I will be leaving Saturday morning to beat the snow predicted for the day, so I won’t be able to go to the fan gathering, but I’m so happy so many of his fans are getting together. Have a great time the next few days and I’m praying everyone arrives safely.
