David Archuleta Takes on the Press

All the kind words and love coming David’s way during his trip to Asia reminds me that he has an enormous presence, an aura of kindness that broadcasts and reflects back to him that what he is doing with his gift is being received and understood. Those in the press who spent time interviewing him and had an image of what they thought he was about, soon discovered that he is so much more than they may ever comprehend.
“We were surprised at just how gentle and humble this kid is! We all know the David Archuleta image we see on TV, right? We see him as shy, easily embarrassed, even awkward sometimes, but when you meet him in person, you realize just how genuine this guy is.” ~~ ChicoGarcia
David displays maturity beyond that of his youthful fellow artists. We have witnessed his gentle demeanor in so many situations that would very likely stress out most mere mortals. Like jet lag, the uncomfortable heat from foot lights he endures onstage in overcrowded venues and sleeping in strange places on any given night. Yet he relishes the opportunity to perform under any condition, never knowing what part of this world he will travel to for the next event. I was struck by David’s display of humility which proved “off the charts” when he tweeted about the unexpected (his term) warm welcome at the airports in Singapore and Manila. It matters not where David goes; we as fans will be there for him to show our unfailing support.
Unfazed, he smiles as hoards of screaming fans reach out to take a memory away by touching his shirt or getting the famous one arm hug that is David’s signature of affection. There are so many who reach out to him for a piece of his time and attention. His generosity to charities is evident in the way he makes sure he gives each one what they ask for, be it a helicopter ride, a mini concert or a hospital visit to brighten the day of patients. Seriously, David? How can you emit so much love for your fellow man and not expect it to come back to you ten fold?
David Archuleta is an artist who, at such a young age, is as focused as a laser beam. Interviewers soon realize that he is no pushover by the forthright way he deflects the probing personal questions he does not choose to answer.
“What do you mean you’ve never had a girlfriend?”
“Why is it that you have not kissed a girl yet?”
As if these are questions that MUST be answered!
In a round table interview recently in Manila, David told the reporters all they need to know about him. When asked what song he was most proud of from the new CD, he said the first and last tracks and that “The Other Side of Down” is the right balance of lyrics and has a feel good vibe. The last track, “My Kind of Perfect,” he described as his kind of love song, wondering who that person will be when love comes along. He has a brilliant mind. David understands that there is a time and place for what his Maker has in store for him. This is his chance right now, to strive to be the best artist he can be. His youth is not being wasted. Finding the perfect balance between career and personal relationships might be a tall order right now. Serving two masters usually results in both masters getting less than the desired effect.

If we really listen to the lyrics of songs from “The Other Side of Down“, we will hear clues about what David’s relationship is with life. He accentuates the positive in his songs. David is not afraid to write uplifting lyrics that other artists or label executives may see as cheesy. He stood his ground to make this album what he wanted it to be. There is nothing fake or disingenuous in the ten songs co-written by David.
David never betrays who he is. No matter the cost, he will live life on his own terms.
I respect that and love him for having such a strong character. For those who do not understand fully what we fans know, time will remedy that problem. David’s gift will one day be understood by more and more people as he tours this big blue marble called Earth.

MOTAB – LUNCHEON ON SATURDAY THE 18TH IN SLC (UPDATE)
There will be a luncheon for all fans of David in SLC to celebrate his singing with the MoTAB Choir. It will be on Saturday December 18th at 12:30. Please arrive between 12:30-1:00. Of course, we are eating at a Thai restaurant, The Thaifoon. The restaurant is in the Gateway Mall (an outside mall) which is beside The Hyatt Place in SLC and is convenient to hotels and transportation. You may share this info with anyone you know who would like to come to lunch. I need people to SEND ME AN EMAIL and let me know if they are coming so I have an accurate number. I will be sending out an email in the next couple of days to the people who have contacted me. Chicken Pad Thai anyone!!

I am also going to do a birthday book for David which would be for longer messages, letters, poems, thoughts, etc. and sayings for his tweets (remember he said he gets some of his tweets from fans). There are so many amazing articles and comments on this site, that I hope people will want to include some of those. That could also be given to him. Let me know your thoughts about doing that. My deadline would be sooner (like 12/6 since the emails would have to be compiled and put in a book. I think I have someone to help me, thanks goodness. I think both of these would give David some wonderful memories. Send those to my email and feel free to send as much as you want. If anyone wants to send me a finished copy of something that can’t be copied (like a decorated page, just email me. Thanks so much.

Many say that when they meet David in person, they realize just how genuine he is. We saw it early on, on “American Idol” and knew he was the real deal. I want to shout out “I told you!” but then realize that not all of his fans are from his early days.

He is always referred to as a good role model for teenagers. Truthfully, he’s a good role model for adults as well.

I know there were some in the media who had a problem with David on AI because they thought his humility and shy awkwardness was just an act. We have watched as one by one they discover after meeting him that he is as genuine and honorable as they come. He is such an inspiration the way he navigates through the world, always with patience and kindness and a ready smile, always thinking of others before himself.
When I grow up, I want to be just like David Archuleta.

I’ve been thinking alot lately about David and his goodness. I often wonder how I became so concerned about him. Where he goes. What he’s eating. How he’s feeling. I get worried everytime he gets on an airplane. I don’t have much patience for many of the media who ask him stupid questions. I get worried that I adore him so much and respect him so much that he will feel like he has to live up to this pedestal I’ve put him on. I don’t want to ever give him grief. All these things and many more that I’m sure all of you know and have had the same emotions.
I really just want to say to Abrra that I appreciate your insight. Much of my concerns are unnecessary as you have reminded me of David’s strength. Thank-you!

Abrra, I think David’s goodness……..that doesn’t really say it …….his heart……his quiet need to help others…..his awareness of others and their needs….And not only the awareness but the DOING is what is so impressive. Don’t we all wish we could be more like that. I think there are lots of times I think, “I should call ______ or I should go visit _______” But then I allow life to get in the way and put it off until the need is gone or I don’t do it at all. David just does it. I have to admit that sometimes I do it and then I feel the happiness that comes. And then there is the voice. And not only the voice, but the message he bears….not only thru the words but thru his dimeanor. I guess I can’t explain myself very well. I’m just so grateful to be a part of all of this and to have found such wonderful friends in the journey. It is just the greatest! So thanks so much Abrra for your thoughts! Abrra, every word in your article is 100% true. As so many fans have said, to know him is to love & respect him.
Now I am wondering about David being & rehearsing in Florida? We know Orlando is WEG’s home base. But why would David fly all the way to FL to rehearse with “the band”? Well, obviously because David will be doing a real “CONCERT” concert soon, not just a short acoustic appearance like he’s been doing. The Majestic is his next scheduled appearance and it makes sense he will have the band with him for this very special concert in a beautiful venue…BUT if I recall, two years ago, David & Cook had a very ninja-like, unannounced, very secret, private, invitation only concert for the employees of a large company in Florida (Hollywood FL, I think?) & we were all so surprised about it! Could it be David is doing it again for this company? I dunno, probably not. It’s just a thought. Then again, WEG probably is the best place to rehearse with the band. 😉
Anyway..The concert in Dallas at the Majestic this Friday is going to really great! Methinks it will be like one of his CFTH concerts with songs from his albums AND Christmas songs. Thus the need for intense rehearsals? Lucky people in & around Dallas! 😀

had turned into his real big brother!!! OMG!!Should I do something about it ?
I did nothing .
I knew then and I know now, from a mother’s point of view, I ‘d never have to worry about my kids (or me haha) learning anything bad from David. That’s how much I trust him.

It is so rewarding to come here and see the comments. For me, blogging is not something that comes easy. Words that come from a deep feeling of gratitude for this wonderful singer just flowed out of me. Watching the concert in Manila over a live stream, made me realize that we are all one huge fan base. The country doesn’t matter. We all live on this big blue marble and we who come here support David Archuleta in any way possible.

Wowarchie, I loved your story. David has become part of our daily lives. He inevitably becomes part of my families conversations when we get together. Thanksgiving night discussing our trip to Utah my son asked what if the whether is just not fit for driving (sidenote:I’ve always said I would never fly, have no reason to) I told him I’ve checked the weather forecast, terrain maps, and so far it all looks good, but he insisted, so I said in a worst case scenario I’d have to fly…lol I knew what was coming, he laughed and told me he knew it, he knew David would someday get me on a plane. Well at this point I’m praying for perfect driving conditions because as terrified as I am, I’ll fly if I have to 🙂
SF, I had the same thoughts, why Florida, WEG is one reason but when I saw his tweet about spending time with his abuelito’s it made me glad. His Utah family might have met him there for Thanksgiving.

I made a lot of jokes when speaking inEnglish. I told my flute professor I had “dinosaur ” when I actually had the “diarrhea “( cause both words start with [d-i] ). And the latest joke is about me meeting and talking to David at the autograph session in Singapore…

When I went upon stage with fast heart beats and blank brain , David smiled and said ” So ! You are the last one ! ( yes , I was the last one in line that evening but it’s my second rounds. Shhh, nobody noticed till now)
I felt a need to mention how good his showcase was. so I (with the most sincere attitude I’ve ever had,trying very hard to ” untie” my tongue ) said
this to pure and innocent David : youarefantasticlastnight….
All of you can pull my ears or knock my head but let me tell you how David reacted
He tilted his head and paused all body movements in the air for 0.5 sec , then, he gave me a bright smile and replied “Awww thank you.” Smart boy ! He understood what I meant !
But only back home I was laughed at out loud by my husband … Then i realized in horror it’s beyond PG-13 !!! I am so sorry , David ! Please don’t
feel offended .

I cannot put into words the way I am feeling tonight. The tears keep rolling down my checks as I think of how blessed I am to be a fan of David James Archuleta. I have met so many wonderful people because of him and I am trying daily to be a better example and to serve others more because of Davids example.
I watched the movie Pay It Forward the other night…I have decided that David is the type of person who is continually “paying it forward”. I am trying harder to do just that too…”Pay it forward” is my new motto.

The last time I spoke to him (back in June) I can’t even remember seeing his eyes. How weird! I probably blocked them out for self-preservation!

I understand having a strong reaction. I had an overwhelming reaction to seeing how David was received on his Far East promo tour. Seeing them show such love for him despite not having regular access to him as we do, was so heartwarming. You are correct, he pays it forward every day of his life. He is selfless and humble to a fault.

Aahh! Archugaze! Yes! Saw it and was dead instantly ! Just like you didn’t remember seeing his eyes or not I totally didn’t know what he wore on 15th Nov 2010 in Singapore.
I knew it was my only chance to see him in such a short distance , so I made sure not to blink my eyes when he’s signing autograph. But with my mouth open counting his eyelashes, I wasn’t sure whether I dripped my saliva on his nose or not ?! Did I ? Maybe! No wonder I felt some daggers shooting out of a teenaged girl’s eyes right toward me when I left the stage…

David has become more confident about taking on the press. Having a more direct, hands on, relationship with the direction of the lyrics made the difference. I think its like talking about your child. You know everything on the subject. Where as if you tried to tell about someone else’s child, you’d have less knowledge. This CD is HIS child.

Abrra, I read this 4 times. It’s really good. And it really made me think. That’s the reason I couldn’t comment right away.
I am so glad that David went to Asia. He is so loved there – and by people who rarely get to see him.
From the airport workers to the media to the fans – they all seemed to sense that light he emits. People just gravitate to him.
People seem to want to question him about every little thing. Moreso than anyone else in my memory. I think they just want to listen to him talk, keep him there as long as possible. Be in his atmosphere. Know everything there is to know, know everything he is thinking.

I could not be proud of David and all his fans everywhere! We have a new manager at work and we were chatting and I really like her. I asked her if she likes David Archuleta and she said YES! and then I told her that I love her LOL and told her she may as well know right then that I consider him part of my immediate family. I received something fabulous in the mail today, it is the DVD Orla Fallon with David and others.
Youtube videos in no way do justice to David’s performances as a matter of fact watching them does a little harm because you may not think to watch the DVD.
He played right into the camera and his eyes sparkled like only they know how to sparkle! His finesse on stage was fantastic and when Orla joined him he so gently/kindly looked over to her at the perfect moments.
The audience had tears in their eyes and were so excited when he was performing. The cameras obviously loved him and never missed closeups of his expressions.
I am so proud of him, never mind the shirt tail hanging out because in the DVD it looked just fine. Between verses when he smiled, well he was in his own musical heaven!
Orla’s announcement directly into the camera that he is “America’s greatest singing sensation” tells the whole story about David and she told it straight on to the world of music. The DVD is so beautiful color wise and captures his exceptional charm.
I didn’t really catch it at the time but her introduction to “Silent Night” told of the two cities Belfast and Nashville being sister cities explaining why both herself and David were singing verses of the song in their own languages.
I had chills all over again. The DVD is priceless and so worth buying to watch over the holiday season especially.
I am going back to watch the finale now, but just had to pass along the treasure that I just found.

SB#64 I saw Orla’s show a few nights ago on PBS. Was looking for you in the audience! 😀 David is such a pro; his performances blew me away. He knew just when to look into the camera and seems so comfortable while being filmed, like he was made to do TV and movies. Would love to see a “Behind The Scenes” video for the show.
One day in the not too distant future, there will be a Christmas special on TV: “Christmas From The Heart, with David Archuleta”. He will have his own Christmas special on TV, complete with guest stars. He will call the shots. I know it will happen.

BUT, as I said…just had to fangirl for a minute somewhere, after just watching Orla Fallon's Christmas for the first time tonight…since I'm sitting here in the dark and as usual (since Idol days) talking outloud to my tv set!!
I purposely waited until it was broadcast on my PBS channel tonight, w/out peeking at any YouTube or fansites first…cuz….I just love the anticipation…like every live concert I get "beside myself" with excitement! I know, nutz…but in a good way.
Anyhoo…before I go off on a HUGE ramble…let me just state the obvious to "the choir" here…David never disappoints. In spades. He blows me away. The way he crafts a tune and his musical ear is genius to me. Honestly, I repeat this often…he has so much in his natural musical arsenol, I feel he has only just begun to show us what he's made of…I believe his star will burn slowly, uniquely and brighter and brighter, for a very longtime.
And may I say I was already a Celtic Women and Orla fan…and the real deal "gets" the real deal when she sees it. Respect her even more now for appreciating David.
Funny..after he sang and was off the stage for a few songs and I thought that was it…I happened to say outloud…"Can we please see more David?!"…and I no sooner got the words out and she was introducing him again. Yayyy…Thank You God, my Christmas wish was answered!
I wondered, as I glanced at audience faces, who from Davidland was out there and standing and cheering. Lucky souls.
Ok well…thanks for the place to come and gush…I'm not too off topic…since the topic is all-David-all-the-time. 🙂

They talk of his smile, how there is not a mean bone in his body, how being with him is like yoga, and on and on. LOL I still cannot explain it so I have some sympathy for them. There is simply no one like him.
Abrra, you wrote, “How can you emit so much love for your fellow man and not expect it to come back to you ten fold?” I really like this thought. I want this for David. If anyone in this world deserves good things to come to them, David does, yet his desire is to help others. He wants “make a difference.”

David Archuleta opens up about girls

MANILA, Philippines – Popular teen idol David Archuleta is seemingly finicky when it comes to girls.
The 19-year old, who was in town recently to promote his second album, “The Other Side Of Down,” is single by choice.
Describing his ideal girl in an interview with “24 Oras,” Archuleta revealed that “she’s anything but typical. A sweet surprise. No matter what, she’s looking at the bright side.”
Going further, Archuleta detailed that he goes for more than good looks.
“I think there’s so much more to girls that really… you can be drawn to and attracted to that last so much longer than just the way they look,” said he.
In an interview with the Inquirer, Archuleta claimed that he is very protective of his loved ones, especially girls, even as he admitted growing up surrounded by three sisters.
“They taught me how to care and look after someone. At home, I’m like, ‘Who’s that boy?’ It’s important to have a lot of respect for girls and to value them.”
That said, Archuleta is not one for public display of affection. Admitting that he is a bit secretive, Archuleta said that if and when he does pursue a girl romantically, he “probably wouldn’t wanna tell people.”
Is he close to finding that “special someone?”
Archuleta was non-committal but he didn’t pull back when naming a few of his favorite peers, which included, among others, Charice Pempengco, Miranda Cosgrove and Demi Lovato.
According to Archuleta, he has kept in touch with Pempengco, divulging a planned get-together during his short visit.
He also admitted being “close” with Cosgrove, whom, like Pempengco, he had also worked with in the past.
“She [Cosgrove] was really nice and sweet, and more quiet than I thought she’d be.”
He also only has praises for Lovato, who, just recently, was under much scrutiny for alleged behavioral problems.
“At 18, Demi is so talented. She acts, she sings, she plays instruments and writes songs. It was a real treat watching her perform. And she’s really smart.”
But when asked whom he would want to work with in the immediate future, Archuleta surprised many when he mentioned pugilist Manny Pacquiao.
Apparently, Archuleta follows the career of the boxer. He even congratulated Pacquiao over the latter’s victory over Mexican boxer, Antonio Margarito.
Archuleta shared that he thinks it “fun” to sing a duet with Pacquiao.
“Besides I’d rather sing with Manny than fight with him,” “Tweetbiz” quoted him as saying.

This is a good example of how the press tries to twist David’s words. After he is “non-committal” this reporter rewrites history and lists some young females David had the pleasure to WORK with.
How about this? Write about David’s contribution to the human race by his charity work. That is far more interesting than who he ISN’T kissing.

I was at work when I read djafan’s post #89. I had to wait until I got home to go see the link she posted.
My mind was racing! I spoke to David in my mind, “This is it David! You are finally getting noticed for that stubble. A national company sees that you can sell more razor blades for them with your lovely 19 year old face.”
Driving home I began to think about the words “Sleigh Bells Rock ” I Imagined a whole campaign with David at the center in all sorts of Holiday ads on TV and in print. A whole new exposure vehicle for David. Millions will see him in promos during sports events or read his endorsement in GQ Magazine.
I saw visions of him in a sleigh extolling the virtues of a clean shaven face.
When I got home 30 min later,I dashed from my car and ran to the computer. I opened the link. http://www.sleighbellsrock.com/

Not what I was expecting. I did follow the scroll. David was given a nice enough space to display his music. I wish they had asked him to say something about the company in his video. At least he’d get a pay day from the exposure.
Not complaining, just saying I always expect that everyone who come into contact with David feels the same as I do. Sometimes it takes a bit longer for them to catch up.

Abrra: I was just at the Schick site! There are links to over 30 clippets of David’s songs, one new video made on the day of the cd release and the videos for “Crush”, “SBL” and “Day in the Life”. To download songs you have to get codes from specially marked Schick products. The TOSOD album cover seems larger than life. So clear with vivid colors. Could also be because I just cleaned my screen. LOL

we have seen David in socks I think twice now… in the Guitar Hero commercial during Idol… where we also saw the only glimpse of his legs (they were cute)and recently in Singapore.. and we have always looked at the shoes he wears.I have wondered what his feet look like!I mean, his feet have always been covered up.I am sure, they are beautiful.
