Colombia Discovers David Archuleta ~ Andrea V.R.

Image of David and Colombian Flag by Andrea

My name is Andrea V. R. from Colombia.

I entered into the world of Archiefans from the moment I saw and heard David Archuleta singing in the Spanish version of “We Are the World.”  I saw the video because a cousin suggested I watch it, not to see David, but to observe those participating for they are the most influential artists in Latin America and other continents.

Video MGR by r2rod2

Let’s on to the main topic: As I was listening and watching the performance I saw a face so beautiful and so many other attractive characteristic of this guy, who I still knew nothing, even I thought he was Colombian or Mexican.  I never guessed that he was also American.  My investigation on his life began by asking those who saw the video his name, while not getting prompt responses from them.  I scrutinized the web with keywords related to “Somos El Mundo,” which included searches conducted with the following keywords: Artistas que hicieron o participaron en Somos El Mundo.”  I found one list of  twenty-five names that were even in alphabetical order, within which appeared “David Archuleta.”  But I was not 100% sure if this was his respective identity, since this was not the only one that I did not know, so my search did not end there.  I kept looking until I find a result, the night of April 6th of this year after repeated and consecutive times of trying and failing up to exhaustion.  I finally decided to go randomly by entering “David Archuleta” in the image filter and I realized luck was on my side when I confirmed my search for him.

No day when I don’t think of him, I wish he were in my country so I can go to at least one of his concerts and I can express to him my admiration and loving for him as a songwriter and humble person.  I like his shyness, his smile is beautiful and recognizable such as others have previously said it.

I request the Colombian flag attached appears on publishing.

Thank you so much.

Andrea V.R.

You have written a wonderful story from your heart. It is so much fun to hear about the time when a fan discovers David’s music. Even though distance separates our countries, we are all close when we speak of David. I am so proud of you for stepping up to share your story with us at The Voice.

I made a video a week before the ALMA appearance using the song”Contigo En La Distancia” by David when he was 12 years old. I will post it to demonstrate that even though he was young, the beauty of his voice was so pure.

    🙂
in response to #2, yeah I started wondering who is that guy of green eyes and beautiful face? why didn’t I know about him before? his eyes and beautiful face were the first that called my attention, my searching started on that then.
” ” to #3 : Yes, the more I know him, the more I love him it has been occuring me over time.
” ” to #4 : Of course that same day I started searching for by his name and randomly I found it this video, it was impeccable performing on ALMA AWARDS.

Gladys thanks for those sincere words THAT GOOD! you liked it.
even more wonderful it would be if David checked it.

Thanks the voice team without this fansite our comments wouldn’t be possible. by spreading of words based in different experiences allow us know more about the each one’s experiences with respect to our dear and loved David.

Very interesting to read your account of how that little stinker wormed his way into your mind and conquered your heart. We are all such willing victims of his clever assault on our dull complacency.
He has found the way to true happiness comes from gratitude and in serving and sharing with others. He encourages us all to follow his constant example. He brings us joy, but expects us to work for it. Always urging us to be kinder, more giving of our talents, fearless in our pursuit of doing our very best. The David fans I have met are such terrific people.
Congratulations on finding David. He is the best gift I have ever received.
Love the pictures and videos included in this article. Thank you. And thanks to Abbra for 12-year-old David’s beautiful CELD.

    Andrea,

I love hearing from voices in other countries and yours is so sweet and sincere. Thanks for sharing your journey of discovery with us here. We all have had the same experience in different ways. For each of us there is that first moment when we are caught forever. There was never even a struggle. He had me at a smile.

    Jeff,

I must be in a particularly weakened state this morning. That Contigo video was too much too soon and I found myself a minute into it thinking, “breathe” because I had forgotten to. What perfection he achieved in that stunning performance. Need that Latin album while my heart is still strong enough to take it.

Andrea, I fixed your date to April 6th.

    Jetsetting with … David Archuleta
    by Serene Lim

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

WHAT do you know, the kid affectionately known as Archie from Season 7 of American Idol is already 20.

In the three short years since the talent show, David Archuleta has travelled extensively to promote his music and he’s excited to chalk up more stamps in his passport.

In town recently to promote his album The Other Side Of Down, Archie was showing telling signs of jetlag – frequent yawning and bloodshot eyes – but was alert when asked about the other boy wonder, 16-year-old Justin Bieber.

“I don’t consider myself in the same category as I never wanted to be a teen pop sensation,” he countered. “It’s cool he’s doing very well, but we’re different kind of artistes.”

Meow! Let’s move along to happier topics, shall we?

Do your experiences on the road ever become fodder for your music?

David Archuleta: Yeah, every single thing influences the way I think and feel. I’ve learnt a lot from travelling, touring and performing. I try to bring it to the songs and how I express myself through my music.

Your new album is called The Other Side Of Down. What are some upsides and downsides of travelling for you?

One big downside is packing. I don’t like doing it. I tend to overpack, and even then I still think that I don’t have enough. There are lots of upsides to travelling. I enjoy being on the move constantly – it’s harder for people to tell me what to do because I’m not in one location. Food is another upside. I like eating a lot and trying different things. I remember trying something really spicy in Malaysia and it was so unbelievably hot that I really thought I might die from it. Water didn’t help and tears were rolling down my cheeks.

What music do you like listening to while travelling?

I like music that makes me think. Travelling can be quite lonely and tiring, so I prefer something that puts me in a pensive mood. I love musicians like Regina Spektor and Imogen Heap. They write thoughtful, interesting lyrics. Music is important as it can make you feel connected to another person’s experiences even though you may be miles away.

What’s the first thing you do when you get into a new hotel room?

I’d see what sort of snacks there are. I told you I like eating! (Laughs) Oh, and I check out the bathrooms, too, as they sometimes differ in design.

Tell us one traveling tip you swear by.

Try not to get stuck in the touristy areas. Find out the popular places where the locals hang out and go there. Sometimes I just like to walk without knowing where I’m going and get lost.

David Archuleta’s The Other Side Of Down is available in record stores.

Off topic. Haha. There is only one topic here.

I have had favorite singers before, but I have never:

known what they had for breakfast

kept an itinerary of their travels

been concerned when they had the sniffles

worried when they were on a plane

noticed much what they wore, except maybe Neil Diamond’s sparkly shirts

felt they truly cared about the welfare of their fans

been interested enough to memorize every mole and chicken pox scar available for scrutiny

    been entranced with neck veins

felt motivated to search for neighbors who needed a cookie or a hug

cared what they thought about mangoes

wanted to sell my house and become a professional groupie

    Until David

Here is Lisa singing it live.

And HERE is the most beautiful video set to this song that I just happened to come upon tonight. Amazing! I must find out what program this talented person is using (my inquiring mind send her a pm 🙂 ) for I would get back into making videos if I only knew.

This story is so touching, I have to bring it over from FOD. Its by Jenny, on of the admins.

    Falling Stars As a Catalyst

Has David Archuleta’s third studio album The Other Side of Down ever struck you as revelatory?

I’ve been working on writing a review for quite some time, but just talking about the music doesn’t seem to do it justice.

So I’m taking a different approach.

While listening to Falling Stars for the 1,459,309th time the other day, it occurred to me that David’s music is a catalyst. I feel this inexplicable rush of momentum; some unseen force propelling me to impose myself–finally–upon my own life in order to effect change.

    Why Falling Stars?

Because remember: we are all the ages we’ve ever been, and I found my eighteen-year-old self finally awakening and feeling all of the emotions in this song, every last one of them.

It was my first year of college, and I met a boy named Casey. He lived in my dorm and I was drawn to him immediately: he was a leader–a hilarious, fun-loving, athletic guy three years older than me. And he played the guitar and sang beautifully, gah.

After a few months, we started dating, and by Christmas I was sure that He Was The One. We promised not to exchange Christmas gifts (college students are horribly broke), but somehow he snuck a present to my parents for me to open on Christmas morning. It was a Doritos sweatshirt, in honor of Wednesday nights, when a big group of us would congregate in Casey’s room and pig out on junk food. I always had a bag of Doritos to myself (they don’t call it the Freshman 15 for nothin’). The gift defined the essence of our quirky, fun-loving, based-on-friendship relationship, and it made me laugh and cry at the same time.

The relationship progressed, peaked, and then slowly started to regress, just like falling stars over your head. The backslide was insidious but unspoken; we continued through the motions, unwilling to unclench our fists. I visited him once during summer break, and it was disastrous, doomed from “hello.” That whole week-long visit was a horribly drawn-out painful silent goodbye; my hands were over my ears and my eyes were squeezed shut tight to prolong the inevitable. But I knew.
    I’ll always love you
    Oh, believe it or not.
But baby that’s not enough to–not enough to stop these
    Falling stars

And suddenly it was a time warp: driving away from him, I felt like I was much older, perhaps the me I am now, and looking back on the moment I was in then.
    When you forget me
When you don’t remember my name
    Not even a memory
Somewhere in the back of your brain
    I won’t be offended
Cause I always know that the day
Would come when I’m not enough to make you stay

The very next week I received the Dear Jen letter in the mail. (This was before internet and text messaging, mind you.) He broke it; or rather, he gave voice to something that was already broken. And I was broken.

So when I heard Falling Stars this summer, it all came back in a terrific gushing sweet flood. The pain is dim now, smoothed by the distance of years and by lovers and children and friends…
    The world is turning
And time keeps on lingering on.

But there is regret. Where is he now? Does he remember my name? Does it really have to be the way I imagined it would be all of these years later–that all of that love would be for nothing, forgotten and pointless in the grand scheme of things? Because when it comes down to it, it’s a desolate, existential prediction:
When it’s all said and done
I’ll be just a speck in your galaxy
    Floating far away by gravity

    NO, DANGIT!

The song, you see, was a catalyst. I don’t want to be a speck in his galaxy; I don’t want the burning sun, the turning world, to erase a chapter in my life that was earnest and beautiful and paramount to who I am today.

You won’t believe what I did.

    I called him.

And sliding back into a friendship with him was like sliding back into my favorite pair of black fuzzy socks: warm and comfortable and necessary and wherehaveyoubeenforsolong? So Casey and I are friends again, sharing stories about our families, our children, our spouses, our careers, our hopes, our fears, our dreams–the ones that we gave up on and the ones we are still stubbornly chasing. We laugh together, give each other advice, and marvel at the things that have changed and the things that never will.

This week I got news that Casey’s wife Dora is undergoing chemotherapy and radiation for a relapse of her leukemia after eleven years. She will have a second stem cell transplant soon–months and months of pain ahead for this family. I will be there for Casey, as much as I possibly know how to be.

You see, God places us into each other’s lives at just the right time, for reasons we may or may not understand.

All we need is a catalyst.
    I’ll never get over you
    never over you
    cause you are
    so
    beautiful

Why didn’t they make that Pat-A-Pan available on itunes.

The Pat-A-Pan video wail. I’ve listened to it over and over. Why is it his live versions are so much better? Is it because we’re looking at him? Sometimes I think it is, and sometimes I think it isn’t . That boy confuses me all the time.

And love the Delta tweet. Too funny! 🙂

#53Bebereader, I’m standing and cheering! I’ll never forget it! I was just sitting here talking to my hubby(David) about David and how blessed I have been to attend more than three 😉 of his concert’s! Alas, I am spoiled. I tell my husband often how much he is appreciated. I then cook really good food for him and he seems to be just fine with my ODD! Ha! Ha! The way to man’s heart is through his stomach, isn’t it? (My 2nd favorite David loves food too doesn’t he?) LOL 😆
P.S. Hi Steno! Hard to believe it’s been a whole year since Ann Arbor!

    Steno and Archangel48,

Thank you for your shout outs for the Ann Arbor show last year! I’m sure there are so many more of you out there who experienced the magic of seeing David perform with a symphony orchestra. My dream is to one day see David perform with an orchestra, in my hometown of NYC at a venue like Lincoln Center.

Steno, I just read your recap. Thank you for sharing your experience of seeing David live in person for the first time. The pictures, the videos, nothing does it justice, I’m sure.

Archangel48 I can only imagine the experience!

Bebe, Thank you for the Ann Arbor anniversary reminder! It’s a night that’s embedded in the DNA’s of those of us who were there. David was exactly where he should be — singing in front of a sea of musicians. And I … I was sitting next to FunnyGirl and in front of Betsy … exactly where I should be. 🙂 I will never forget when these words rolled off his lips …”There was a man back in 95, whose heart ran out of summers …” Ahhh the memory!!

Star Power – David Archuleta meets all girls singing competition finalists in Manila

“David Archuleta has been on a whirlwind tour across Asia and last night America got to see some of his work as it was played on International television. On the show ABS-CBN’s STAR POWER the former American Idol contestant got to meet and inspire the singing show contestants.

Looking extremely excited and overwhelmed at the experience, the ladies were treated to one of Archuleta’s concerts in Manila and after the show went back stage. Talking a bit of shop and lots of inspiration, David shared some of what he does with these finalists to inspire themt o really take their music to a whole new level.

Sharing nothing but positivity, the ladies seemed impressed with David and were super excited.

Take a minute to check out David Archuleta in the video clip. This is the segment where he meets the ladies and they go crazy excited!”

    Hello all!

I’m so sad I missed chat last night, have had a family filled weekend, it was very nice.

Ann Arbor, what a concert, thanks Steno for a heartfelt read and Bebe for getting the reminiscing started. Ahhh The Riddle, I didn’t know the song until David sang it and it’s become one of my favorites.

Saturday Night Live interview, I just love David talking in these interviews. I loved hearing someone crack up in the background, David is just so genuine.

I was one of the ones that didn’t get the David interview from the Celtic Christmas special, really loved it!

    JR!!!

Thank you for the videos and for a beautiful recap, I’m so happy you finally got to meet David!

After watching David with those singer contestants I believe wholeheartedly that David would make a great mentor.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family & friends.

I was in & out of the loop due to the tragic & sudden death of a good friend of my son earlier in the week and for Wake & funeral the last two days. My son is very distraught and I needed to be there for him as much as I could be. It hurts to see my son mourn yet another friend. Sometimes there’s not much we can say to make sense of the unexplanable. We just have to go on.

After reading the lovely article by Andrea from Columbia, I hope it gives lurkers from other countries the courage to open up & comment or send articles to The Voice like Andrea did about how they discovered David & what it has meant to them & their lives. There can never be a language barrier when it comes to how we admire & appreciate David. There must be so many others out there just like Andrea. 🙂

Angelica, the song “The Voice” by the Celtic Women is hauntingly beautiful!

Wondering where David is, but wherever he is..

David, Buenas Noches! Sleep well with sweet & happy dreams. Thank you for all you do and for who you are. Keep with you all our love, support & prayers always. Contigo siempre! We will be with you always!

According to band member tweets about being in Florida and Alfredo meeting and practicing with them, seems that David spent the Thanksgiving holidays in Florida, Abuelita lives there so that seems perfect to me and if she is like all the abuelita’s I know David definitely had some hot chicken soup.

Sorry for your son’s loss of his friend. It hits the younger ones so hard when things like that happen. They never expect it. We older and wiser ones know that life is precious and can be gone in a second. My thoughts are with your family as you help him get through this.

My heart aches for your son. It is hard to make sense of loss even at the best of times. How wonderful that you can be there for him in his grief. Family really means the most when things are the toughest. My support and wishes for love and grace are with you and your family.

No good thing is ever really lost. But deep grief is felt for those things that matter most. We do not feel grief for the unimportant. His grief honors his friend. Thank you for sharing.
