Hold on Tight

Posted by bebereader on Wednesday, November 3, 2010

David sends inspiring messages of hope in his lyrics in the songs on “The Other Side Of Down.”  He sings of moving forward, not giving up, of silver linings, bouncing back and of holding on.  Because he’s exceptionally talented, we, his fans, would like for him to attain stardom now.  Or yesterday.  But perhaps this is unrealistic and we sometimes confuse our desires for David with his own expectations for himself.

I met David for the second time at a book signing last June in New Jersey.  As he signed my books, I told him that I helped run a fansite called The Voice.

He seemed like he didn’t get it or something so I told him that he is The Voice and that, “A voice like your’s comes along once in a lifetime.”  I also told him that we love him with a passion.  I had to.  Not only because it’s the cha-ruth, but because I promised several fans, unable to get to a book signing or VIP, that I would deliver that message.  He looked down as he diligently autographed the books and then looked up at me, a little embarrassed.  Maybe because I referred to him as “The Voice”?  I don‘t know, but luckily the store manager broke the ice…“They certainly do love you!  Just look at that line!” pointing to the huge line of fans still waiting their turn.

I should have said more to David that day but there was no time.  And now, with the release of “The Other Side Of Down”, there’s even more to say.

At his young age, David has taught me about life, about hope, about having a charitable heart and how good it feels to help someone in need.  About sticking it out, picking yourself up and trying again.  About recognizing that there is opportunity in everything and about looking at the bright side.  And most of all, that the struggle is worth the outcome.

Dear David,

I’m one of a base of many fans who will wait as long as it takes for you to make your way and find your place in an industry that is, at best, not an easy one to be a part of.  It is a thrill to watch as your talent unfolds.  We respect so much the way you deeply respect and cherish your gift.

With “The Other Side of Down”, you share your zest for life in an uplifting collection of songs straight from your heart.  Each cut is a unique gem in a beautiful setting of meaningful lyrics, catchy hooks and upbeat melodies, resulting in hours of singing, jamming, reflecting, and just pure glistening, listening pleasure.

Thank you for a jewel of an album.

YES yes and YES! Thank you David. Awesome that you told him that. I don’t think he knows his own amazingness.

If you haven’t seen this, you simply must:

Bebe – I am so thankful that you were able to tell him that “he is The Voice” and that we love him with a passion. Truer words were never spoken. I also will wait as long as I have and I feel hope too whenever he sings. I am amazed that he can bring that gift to me. Thank you for the article and we will all be “holding on tight” for the ride of our lives – it has been the ride of my life and it isn’t over! Love your graphic of the songs and the pic on the top – what is that treatment of the pic called?

FG – who makes a reply at 6:01 to a new article and is first!! If you are showing off your “morning” alertness and out of bedness and whatever else it is – I am very impressed. I’m proud of 9:25 haha Think I will eat breakfast before the chocolate today!!

MoTAB – I have 1 extra Thursday night ticket that I would like to trade for 1 Friday night ticket. Please contact TheVoiceDA@gmail.com (at the top of the front page). Thanks.

FG – forgot to say that I laughed so hard at your last comment – I can see your freaking flag waving out of control all over the place up there – you have a way with words that I love and yes, it is a good thing that your won’t be blocking the view of heavenly David. Wonder what your flag looks like – what insignia does it have on it?? A person with her brain exploding or hearts all over it?

Well said, Bebe! I hope you get the chance to finish telling him in more detail how special he is to his fans. It really is true that he has a once in a lifetime voice. My husband is a huge opera fan, so we have attended many operas over the past twentysome years and had the pleasure of hearing quite a few world famous singers. I can think of only three singers whose voices have affected me the way David’s does. Come to think of it, I didn’t run home after the opera and start searching the web for info about those three either. Dang, my ODD is worse than I thought.
Oh–and my very-particular-about-his-music husband thinks David is a tremendous talent as well.

We ponder and wonder and discuss the why of how we feel the about David and his music, we come up with plenty of theories and maybe this is one too, to let him know that no matter what we are going to be here, through thick and then, ups and downs, to support him and let him know that he is “The Voice”.

BeBe, Thank you for more vids! York was a very good night. (huge understatement) I just wish everyone could hear TOSOD.
My 29 year old daughter liked David on AI but hasn’t been a supporter since then and even kind of rude sometimes, even turning down tickets to his concert last year. Well, I was going to Salt Lake with her one day, it is about a twenty min drive to Salt Lake from here. I brought TOSOD with me. I asked her if we could play it on the way down since I had just gotten it and wanted to listen to it. She said yes and I tried not to really say anything more about it (which is REALLY REALLY hard for me). When we got back home she said “By the way, I really like this CD!” I replied, as casually as possible, “You do? Would you like to have it?” She said yes, and the next time I was in her car she had MKOP on repeat. My little 4 year old grandaughter said on sunday, “You want to know a secret, Grammy? We listen to David Archuleta every day!” Yesterday she called me on the phone while she was driving and I could hear, “Who I Am” playing in the background. LOLOL I could never convince her, but listening to this cd sure did. I love it!!! Like I said, I wish EVERYONE could hear The Other Side Of Down.

Hi Everyone!! Thank you Bebereader!! Standing O for your beautiful thoughts! That is just what I needed today!

You had me in tears, as I have been trying to compose my thoughts to David…and you expressed them so beautifully. I just love the positivity that exists on this site!! It is a soft place to fall…full of warmth and cuddles. (and lots of laughs)!

David is a once in a lifetime talent that shall not be denied! Whatever direction that David decides to go, and however long it takes him, I will be right here following him. This is his life, and I just want HIS happiness. Defining success is different for everyone, but I think to be truly successful, you must follow your own heart. What David wants for himself and his future may be different than what some fans want for him. It is his life…to decide what is right for him!!

His amazing album has just made me respect and admire him even more…and I never thought that possible! Going against the tide, can never be easy, but staying true to oneself gives you the greatest chance of true happiness.

Each song is truly a gift, and one in which I will always cherish!!

I know what you mean about a freak flag. My friends and family can’t understand why I’m so “obsessed” with this kid. I have a grandson his age. I have one friend who thinks there should be a 12 step program to get me over this. I can’t explain it to them. There’s just something about the way his voice makes me feel. It brings me hope and joy. When I watch his blogs, I can’t stop smiling. He’s just so precious. It’s not just the way he looks, but it’s who he is. I’m so glad that you told him how we feel, because you speak for more fans than you could possibly know.

I’m impressed since I know how nervous you were and that the other time you met him at a VIP, you directed your remarks to his arm. You did better than me the last time. Actually, I think I would have a better chance of saying all I would like to say by avoiding the electromagnetic emissions coming from those eyes. “David, may I have a word with your arm? Just take a sec.” LOL!

    cb,

I loved your story about your daughter’s passion for TOSOD… MKOP on repeat, Who I am in the background, and granddaughter cinches the deal with, “You want to know a secret, Grammy? We listen to David Archuleta every day!” haha! Done!

“Because he’s exceptionally talented, we, his fans, would like for him to attain stardom now.”

After the Idol tour, I may have thought this was a good career goal. Not so much now, in hindsight. He has spent all this time shaking off the Idol “image” . This may be the one challenge David has had to overcome that really allowed him to grow. We fans have been there for him and he has delivered in more ways than we can ever repay. That’s why I know his talent will blossom to someday be “The One and Only, David Archuleta, The Voice.” A legend and icon.

Thank you for using your time with David to represent all fans who could not see him on the book tour.

Beautiful post Bebe. I have learned in the last 2+ years that patience is a virtue when it comes to wishing and hoping for David’s future. You are so right when you say that we just have to hang in there. His future is bright. I feel that David is still working things out, concerning the way he wants them to happen, and we have just got to be here, there, and everywhere for him. Our support is the best that we can do for him. He feels our support, too. You can tell it by the way he speaks about his fans, and the way he treats us. Dang it, he’s a good guy to support (kind of MKOP)! 🙂

cb–love your keeping-your-mouth-shut way of indoctrinating your daughter to the world of David Archuleta (another ODD’er)!

I just heard David may be going to the Philippines as soon as tomorrow, according to some fans who were at tonight’s promo in Clovis CA. If so, I wanted to post the prayer for David as I always try to do when I know he’s getting ready to travel far from “home”.

    Dear Lord,

Please take care of David. Watch over him. Protect & keep him safe from harm.
Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path.
Give David the courage to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give.
Surround David with people who will love and support David unconditionally as his Archangels do.
Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being.
Give him rest when he’s weary and stamina to sustain his hectic pace.
Give him assurance when he feels doubt and give him joy when he feels sad.
Keep him always in your protective arms during his journey overseas.
And please Lord, give us and his new management WEG, the wisdom to do right by David always.
Help us and his new management in the way we support David so that it’s in his best interests.
May he continue to encounter goodwill and happiness wherever his journey takes him.
Most of all, keep David and and his voice healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny.
Though we may be unworthy, we humbly pray.
    Amen.

David, Buenas Noches! Sleep well with sweet & happy dreams. Thank you for all you do and for who you are. Keep with you all our love, support & prayers always. Contigo siempre! We will be with you always! HAVE A SAFE & UNEVENTFUL, PEACEFUL FLIGHT & PLEASE TAKE CARE!

    Good night everyone!

Ray was part of the old management. Nothing would make my day more than to have Ray along. *wishes*

We will have to see if she has done her homework. I give her AND the mall a D- for tonight for not anticipating the crowd size and providing ample time and space for autographs of CD’s. No one mentioned or saw any CD’s for sale. Promotion 101, eh?

Bebe, I found it strange to lose all of my language ability whenever I was in the same room with David. I put a great deal of effort into saying “Thank you David” every time I have had the opportunity to speak to him. I think he says “You’re welcome” when he sees me coming, knowing that is the extent of our conversation. It is great that you were able to convey our admiration of his voice. Good job!!

It is exciting to have new pictures and videos. Thanks to all who share with us.

    Hey everyone!

I just can’t say this enough: I love this place.

I just got back from Sierra Vista Mall, but didn’t get to see David—I’m too short or everyone else is just taller. With 80 degree weather outside and 10 to 15 degrees warmer inside, a few people couldn’t take being in the crowd. I couldn’t stay for the autographs (my trip was a 3 hour round trip drive and I’m way behind on work).

Even so, I wanted to comment on the joy I saw in everyone in attendance today. I got such a kick out of listening to the boys, next to me, singing along with David, especially during Crush. They must have been about 14 or 15 years old. David’s performance of Falling Stars was just exquisite. David hit the falsettos so smoothly, effortlessly. If it’s possible, I think I love this song even more now. It’s funny but when I first heard FS, I imagined David was singing, lamenting, about losing fans. You know how David has often talked about people losing interest in his music… “we were bound to burn out”. “You are so beautiful”…doesn’t he make everyone he meets feel this way. The very first time I heard those words, I thought, nope, not me. Then he said “yeah” as in yeah you are. Who could ever think of leaving David behind? I know it’s silly, but that’s what I heard/felt.

I’d better get back to work. A little easier now that my home computer has finally had enough. It won’t even turn on any more. I’m on my computer at work where I can only read written words—no pictures, video, or audio. Insert saddest face here.

I for one am enjoying the frenzy of today’s event, as long as no one was hurt, brings media attention to David and the magnet he is where ever he goes.

Love the pictures Abrra, David is glooooooowing! And Melinda actually looks pleasant no frown on the face, maybe she was glad to see all that came out and the excitement in the air.

    1. Noticed a lot more men in the audience
    2. David takes complete command of the entire audience for the “Elevator” singalong. And this from someone who was painfully shy as a child? Amazing!
    3. Loved “Falling Stars” with David playing keyboard but I think he needs to move around for that song. It’s too physical for him to stay in one place. Notice the flailing arms?
    4. Not used to the chaos and where were his cds? It didn’t look to me like they were being sold. Why is that? Makes no sense at all.

Oh wow! This has to be the most under-estimated event for this area. David Archuleta in Fresno for a free show. To be honest I wasn’t expecting the crazyness myself given how little promotion this boy gets. And yeah, no CD sales and hardly hearing his songs on Y101 (even though I request every day). We got there around 3:30. There were some people sitting close to the stage on folding chairs and on the floor. For the next hour and a half or so, we stood waiting. My 13-year-old daughter, who has never been a fan of David, stood behind looking cool and uninterested. At some point, everybody stood up and pushed towards the stage. My daughters and I had hardly any room to move. Every now and then I would look behind and see the crowd getting larger and larger. Around 5 the chanting started: “David! David!” You could feel people were starting to get anxious and restless. Finally at about 5:50 the dj got up there and introduced David. Crazyness at the sight of him! I am so proud of the Fresno/Clovis Archies for showing David the love. He did his set. He was beautiful. Even though the crowd was thick, we were close enough for me to see those eyes sparkle now and then. He did his David antiques, talked about trick or treating and costumes. When he did Elevator and got the crowd to sing back to him, it was so cute when he asked the little kids to sing. Their little voices! It was over way too soon. Then it was announced that David would be signing autographs. Pandemonium. No one was told where to go or what to do. David was sitting behind the stage but there was no order or line to follow. We got separated, but through texts managed to find each other again. Another long period of standing. The crowd was so dense and it didn’t look like we were moving forward at all. My daughters went to find a different way. BTW, by this time my younger one who had been “cool” about David was asking me if I had something he could autograph for her. I pulled the David Archuleta CD out of my purse and gave it to her. She made off with it to try and get close to David. My 21-yr-old, who also loves David had TOSOD from my fan pack. Later she told me how her sister had been squealing during David’s performance! 6:30, 6:45-My heart started to sink thinking I just wasn’t going to get to David. I had my copy of COS hoping that he would sign it. Then the crowd started pushing forward. I was getting closer. 7 0’clock came around, the time David was supposed to leave. I am not kidding when I say that where I was, people started getting desperate. Someone, a guy, yelled: “Keep signing, David!”. Everyone cheered. Finally I was at the front and I was able to take video of David signing. It was about ten after seven. It was crazy. At one point, he stood up to look around, saw the big crowd that was still there packed, got this urgent look on his face. It was then that he looked at me, saw my book and stretched out his arm to reach for it (which caught me by surprise!), but then was distracted by things that were placed on the table for him to sign. He reached out again, and this time, MAGIC. In all that kaos, I swear, it was the moment the earth stood still for me. He didn’t snatch the book. Which he could have, given the time contrictions. I can only describe it as a smooth, graceful movement. From the moment he took the book, placed his full authograph, not just initials, inside of it, and handed it back to me with that smile. Sweet sincere smile which disappeared quickly and was replaced again by that “urgent” look. And then someone yelled out “OK guys we gotta go!” The crowd behind me protested and rushed forward and I was being squeezed against the table. Got a little worried there. I looked around. People were throwing things at him on the table: Gifts, t-shirts still things for him to sign. Security guards just handed them back to the people. Next thing, I see David being litterally pulled out of the chair. Don’t know who this guy was, but he had his hand on David’s neck and shoulder and was pulling him away. It broke my heart to see those eyes of his full of angst as he was saying, “I’m sorry, you guys!” to the large number of people that didn’t get to him. Then there was 2 guys pulling him away running. People ran after him. Screaming and calling his name. He disappeared. After the disappointed crowd dispersed, I saw my daughters. My older one said to me, “I’m sorry, Mommy.” I asked her for what. She thought I wasn’t able to reach David. I showed them the autograph and they both beamed with happy for me. It turns out, they both got their CD’s signed too! My younger one even got to talk to David. He now has a new fan with her. She kept going on about how cool he is. How he’s not what she expected him to be. “He’s not vain or coinceded. He’s really nice. I think I like him better than Lady Gaga now.” Wow. THANK YOU, DAVID. Later in the car, she told me to put his CD on. To “get familiar with his music”. She said she was going to add all his music to her library and she did as soon as we got home. Everything David I’ve been able to buy and is in our computer, is now her newest, prized possesion. Well, I’ve gone way too long already. I’m so grateful for this night. I am happy for David. There was so much love for him. Which is the puzzling thing to me. Even with all this love from his fans, why isn’t he where he should be. Or at least where we think he should be in his career. Well, I’m not going to worry. Today, it caught them by surprise, I think. Them who don’t think he seserves promotion or don’t play his songs enough on the Fresno radio stations. Or chose not to have his CD’s avilable for sale at the event. Them, who weren’t expecting today, the most under-estimated event around here.

    Gayle,

Thank you so much for this amazing recap! I was hanging on every word and rereading so many parts over and over to savor them. Poor baby, I know he felt bad about not getting to everyone, he was still apologizing when he came out to get in the limo. Sounds like it really was a most underestimated event. In Cleveland, the radio event was a limited number of people so it was well controlled and smooth. They probably thought in Fresno that there would be only a few people who wanted an autograph afterwards and it would be over and done in minutes. I guess they will just have to be taught, one event, one city, one radio station, one daughter 😉 at a time, not to underestimate the Archulator. 🙂

Gayle! Thank you so much for this great, detailed recap! Love that your daughter has been transformed into a fan. And that he signed your book.
I’m still in awe over his singing from last night, his ease with the crowd, the size of the crowd itself and the diverse ages and sex of the crowd. Looks like a lot of guys went to listen to David. It seems that when a concert is free, more men go. That was the case in Grand Rapids as well. Then they are turned into fans. 🙂
In both cases, I am sure that thousands of cd’s would have been sold. Oh well.
Oh, one more thing. Never have I seen so many tweets about a David show. Tweets from unknown people. Some ardent fans, most not. Loved the one from the guy who said “My classes got canceled, so I think I’ll go to the David Archuleta show.” Later on, he owned up to ditching class to go. College boys ftw. 🙂

My (non-fan) friend who lives in Fresno was unable to go to the show yesterday but sent me the same video Betsy posted in #81. I’m sure she got the impression that the audience was filled with only younger people because they only interviewed teens and children. That is so not the case! I saw MANY grownups in the audience! Current mood: blissful
    Hi, everyone!

Yesterday I played my first show with American Idol’s David Archuleta, which was the start of a short tour. The dates keep adding, so I am unable to know exactly where we will be. The best source for that information is David’s website: http://www.davidarchuleta.com

I am incredibly excited about this opportunity. David is unbelievably talented as well as a great guy, and his management is overwhelmingly friendly and organized. At this time I consider myself one of the luckiest guys on the planet.

Hope to see you at some of the shows!

Just want to tell you how much I enjoyed reading your recap! Your excitement was palpable and I loved how you just wrote it exactly the way everything happened for you. Just the kind of recap which makes readers feel as if they were right there with you. (or wish they were there!). 😀

And I understand TOSOD is still not selling? Why not!? Welllllll…

I think we tend to forget there were thousands & thousands of illegal downloads of TOSOD so that may be why sales do not seem to be increasing…people (& some fans) already have TOSOD which is why so many people (& some fans) are familiar with his songs. It can’t be because the radio stations are playing his singles because many still are not. TOSOD is being played everywhere, just not on many radio stations. Free concerts & signings are great promotions when the Artist’s CD is available for sale & which the Artist will happily sign. Instead of “free” concerts, WEG should schedule a few concerts and sell TOSOD as the price of admission to the concerts. If Asians have to spend big bucks for a phone in order to “see” David, his American fans can certainly buy his CD for the pleasure of seeing him perform, even if they already have it..legally or illegally. And David is so worth it! Recalling his COS signings, you had to purchase COS at the bookstore he was appearing in, which made perfect sense so why not do the same with these “free” concerts? Just a thought, which I know some fans will think is a stupid idea, but I think David has GIVEN much more than he’s received lately. IMO.

    Ok, I know I’m rambling now. 😆

Love all the recaps. I could just feel the excitement from reading them! And the video of Falling Stars … love the way he smiles when they start screaming after the first high note. It was a good David night!! So happy for him to be feeling the love.

silverfox : as for the sales, when David’s first album came out and they put the songs online for fans to check them out, I seem to remember the phrase “MUSIC ON DEMAND” in the middle of the songs in some lady’s voice. Maybe because people didn’t want that in their music, they bought the CD. Why didn’t they do that this time? When people downloaded illegally this time, it sounded fine. Doesn’t make sense to not have that in there. Then again, maybe it wouldn’t have made a difference. I dunno. Just thinking out loud.

    Silverfox,

I totally agree with you. The day I saw the illegal downloads of TOSOD on youtube I had a sinking feeling. Those files stayed there for days before they were taken off youtube. But it was too little, too late because not only were they put back up two days later but all it takes is one leak and it bulldozes into many people downloading from that one original file.

I don’t want to point the finger at anyone but I know how expensive music is and some people want to buy three or four new cds at the same time. If they can get one for free and nobody is the wiser ….

I believe that’s exactly what happened with TOSOD, one of the most sought-after and long-awaited albums. There are those who knew exactly what they were doing but I honestly think there are those who had no idea they were committing a crime. They probably thought that if the files are there for the taking, then it’s probably okay to do so.

In light of the low sales, I don’t understand why David’s cds aren’t pushed at his shows. All of his cds, plus COS should be available for purchase at all his shows, at all times.

It was great to watch the videos but there’s just something about a free concert at a mall by someone of David’s talent, that bothers me. JMO.

bebereader: They may still have temporarily downloaded the ‘MUSIC ON DEMAND” version but, when they discovered how much they liked it, they pre-ordered the CD so they had a clean copy. Still think it would have sold better if they had put that on there again. I was soooo hopeful about his sales. It broke my heart for sales to be so low.

On the bright side though, from last nights vids it looks like people still LOVE David. Hopefully that will translate into lots and lots of ticket sales. 🙂

    MT, Bebe,

There MUST be something that can be done for David so that he can recoup some of the lost revenue for the illegal downloads. Knowing David & his big heart, if he could, he would gladly give away his music just because he loves to share music that means so much to him. TOSOD is his “baby”, his own creation for the most part, but he can’t just give it away. This is his livelihood and there are others who also depend on his success. He may not be in it (the music business) just for for the money. But like the rest of us, he has to make a living in his chosen profession, right? And I WANT him to continue making great music like TOSOD for at least as long as I live. 😀

BTW, his performance of Falling Stars yesterday was incredible! He is definitely too good for free concerts at a mall. David obviously LOVES performing for his fans. Performing is pure joy for him. He sure as heck doesn’t seem to mind performing for free. If only he didn’t have other obligations.

I guess he’s not going to Asia until next week. And also, how do we know for sure if Ray will no longer be involved as David’s Tour Mgr? David was managed by AZOFF when Ray was the Tour Mgr for David. So Melinda is part of David’s mgmt team, but David will still need a TOUR Manager with Ray’s expertise. Just thinking out loud. 😉

    Good night all!

David, Buenas Noches! Sleep well with sweet & happy dreams. Thank you for all you do and for who you are. Keep with you all our love, support & prayers always. Contigo siempre! We will be with you always! Take care!

    I agree with you.
Please can someone explain to me how Taylor Swift sold one million copies of her new cd in 1 week!?? (On Yahoo home page yesterday) I don’t think I will ever understand today’s music industry, where talentless people…(I am sorry, but she is almost totally talentless in my opinion) receive so many awards and accolades, and sell millions of cd’s and a talent like David is out there doing promos and….(OK, I need to stop here.and calm down and breathe.I don’t mean to rant. I take that back, I do.(It just makes me want to scream sometimes.)

From Chart Watch by Paul Grein posted on Yahoo today and for the week ending October 31st.

“Swift’s album sold more copies than the next 61 albums on this week’s Billboard 200 combined. (That may be the most depressing sentence I have ever written.)”

    http://new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart_watch/68916/week-ending-oct-31-2010-acool-million-for-swift/

I’m not too worried about a free concert with no CD’s for sale. The amount sold would not have been enough to move him up much. It was good publicity which is about all these kind of shows are meant for.

What perplexed me as I read this article this morning and still can not make out is why do Taylor’s fans buy her albums and other artists get illegally downloaded so much?

It may not be the case for much longer.

I found a book review on illegal downloading. Here is a excerpt mentioning Taylor Swift’s sales.

Fortune’s Fool: Edgar Bronfman Jr., Warner Music and an Industry in Crisis’

    by Fred Goodman

    Simon & Schuster, 308 pp., $28

This Halloween, the music industry will determine whether Taylor Swift can manage the trick of selling a million copies of her new album in the first week. If Swift hits that mark, it will represent the first time in two years any musician has done so. And even if she does, many are already predicting Swift might be the last, due to the continued decline of CD sales.

The tale of Swift’s new album, just announced this week, doesn’t appear in Fred Goodman’s music industry tell-all, “Fortune’s Fool,” but the metaphor of “the last canary in the coal mine” does show up. The concept is used to emphasize the diminished prospects of a record industry decimated by illegal downloading. Goodman’s book also serves, to a smaller degree, as a “canary” warning to all creative copyright holders in the Internet age, or as a caveat to any business that doesn’t react quickly to technological changes.

    http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/books/2012536168_br08music.html?syndication=rss

My thoughts are that it may come to the point of artists selling music via the web that contains a non transferable “lock -code”, unique to each buyer. I don’t know the technology behind it but it sounds promising. Just me thinking outside the box.

If there was a way of counting the number of illegal downloads of TOSOD and adding it to the number of actual sales I’m sure we’d be alarmed at the amount of TODOS that were really ‘sold’.

I’ve been a concert junkie all my life and have never been to a show (mall or otherwise) where the artist’s cds were not conveniently for sale at a small merch table nearby. It’s not only to boost sales. It shows the validity of the artist and that the artist is established enough to have other worthwhile cds to his/her credit.

I don’t know the answer but I do know that something has to be done soon to stop music piracy.

It is true if you think about it, ipods and those by any other name, go everywhere with you in place of taking many cds or in my case just a few. The ipod plugs into cars, your BOSE, and several other places. There is nothing to gather dust, find a place to stack and store and nothing to scratch and be held between your fingertips while you move it. Using itunes, all of your music can go on to your phone and you have it all in one toy. This is the way that it is all going right? With itunes you can choose the songs that you want to have downloaded and pay less. Last but not least you don’t have to order anything and wait for it, or go to a music shop or anywhere to purchase the songs that you want.

That’s about it! Itunes has your favorite songs instantly after the song or entire list of songs has been dropped. It is just too dang convenient…

So nice to see the vids of David’s performance from last night. He was amazing without even trying. I am not worried about his future as much anymore. He will continue to sing. I’m just not sure how but he will. His talent can not be denied. If he doesn’t sell a million cds this time around, I am not worried. He is very young. He will have another opportunity. But for now, I hope Jive and WEG will do something together to salvage TOSOD. It seems to me that the stars weren’t lined up properly this second time around for David but I’m sure there’s something that can be learned from it and maybe the next project for him will be handled much better than how they handled TOSOD. I am not giving up on TOSOD, however. It is honestly a truly great cd and great music. It just needs some big promo. I don’t think many people know he has another album. Yeah, I’m with some of you on Taylor Swift. I can’t stand listening to her voice. Whenever she comes on the radio I just turn it off. But maybe that’s the magic that she possesses–her very seemingly ordinary voice is relatable to millions of young people and her songs are “singable”. Maybe David’s songs are too difficult to sing along to? Well, whatever happens, through thick and thin, I’ll be there for David.

BTW congrats to those who got tickets to the Mormon choir concert!

    DA and the “divine gift”:

Each time I come to the site over the last several days, I see my words up in the top corner and I think to myself again: why did you say that? What was it you were trying to communicate? Sometimes my answer varies, even to myself. Mostly, I think I was trying to insert into the ongoing dialogue a perspective of “time” and the gift it is to all of us.

There is nothing in what I see from DA that tells me he will not continue. Not that he will always be the same or that he will develop in a way that can be definitely drawn, but that he will continue. I feel I can trust this so completely that I do not question it or the surety of peace that envelopes me when I think about it.

Time is a great thing – a great gift. I believe, a miracle. DA appears to have an appreciation for this and lets his enthusiasm for the moment (and what it can and cannot do) always sit in a respectful context of time. Where he is now does not appear as urgent as where he is going. Not as a destination but as a dedicated journey. Allowing him to be fully “present”, yet not “pinned” by the moment.

So when life befalls with its unpredictable occurrences, it is just another interesting and engaging experience… but not defining.

Not everyone has this ability or has learned this skill. I shudder when I think of all the talented (let alone us less noticeable creatures) people who seem to spontaneously combust and then look around wondering what became of their lives. Or opt for living in an unreal world in order to cope.

I do not worry about this for DA. Not in the same way. I feel he will continue. That he will search for and find, the way to always be himself. That is extremely comforting to me… whatever this journey he is on may bring: platinum records, notoriety, quiet, travel, family, heartache, etc. He will have no protection from life. Nor does he seek it. Only from doing his best or leaving his “path”.

So I am grateful. He will continue. Mostly that is good news to me though I grimace a time or two when I think of those “deadly skills” and how completely vulnerable I am already. But then I remember that he is just DA. Like my own sons. And he is looking at me from his journey and not from the moment. So what touches me has come a long, long way and is no momentary handshake. Sometimes, he’s just the messenger.

To me, this skill is as imperative to his ability to communicate as is his voice. They are two sides of the same golden coin.

I read an article today that talked about how the message of a good movie can transcend decades and bring healing. It reminded me of my comment above, and what I was thinking when I wrote it. The author went on to say:

“It is that power of film – or any kind of art – to help us transcend our sadness and disappointments that makes me realize what a divine gift artists have. A movie or TV show or song that can raise our spirits or inspire us to greatness is a blessing from God.” C. Koslowski

With DA and all he strives to be, I feel twice blessed.

This is from FamousWhy, David is so wise.

David Archuleta admits he’s not impressive or cool

    Friday, November 5 2010

“I know the kind of person I am,” the American Idol alum, 19, told the USA Today newspaper. “I know how the world looks at impressive people and cool people and people who succeed. I do not fit that mold.

“So how am I supposed to be in a position where everyone’s looking at me? How am I going to make that positive impact and be impressive to people?

“I could try to be cool. A lot of artist get developed, get an image and get that whole mysterious persona. I can not do that. I could try, but I know that’s not me.

“One of the biggest things for me is to be honest with myself and real with other people. If I were to try to create an image that’s not who I am to look appealing to other people, I’d be so uncomfortable with that.

“It’s like I was fighting with myself: ‘David, you’re not cool! What if people don’t like who you are, because you’re not that image?’ Then I was like, ‘Not everyone’s going to like who you are, no matter what you do. Somebody’s always going to have a problem with you.’

“This is what I realized: What if there are other people out there who are like me? Who are wondering the same things as me, feeling the same way? I can relate to them!”

“software engineer; sex: male age:45 ht:6′ wt:208£, eyes: blue, hair:sandy; Christian, husband, father of 3. Swedish/Norwegian/German ancestry. Real enough yet?”

This is his tweets throughout the day:

@ItsJAB4Real @jenleighbarry: I do. It’s what made me decide to download @DavidArchie #ChristmasFromTheHeart for $5 from amazon. Bought CD for wife’s auto

@ItsJAB4Real @burkey45: I don’t know much about @DavidArchie. #ILove2Sing & he has an amazing voice & unlike Katy Perry & Aguilera, he’s not selling sex.

    @ItsJAB4Real Sweet! @DavidArchie #TheOtherSideOfDown and #ChristmasFromTheHeart both available at #SuperTarget. #Purchased! (@ Super Target)

@ItsJAB4Real Hot Dang! I didn’t get past first 10 seconds of @DavidArchie #TheOtherSideOfDown and I’m hooked. One foot stomping song! My #SongOfTheDay

@lovefrommich @davidarchie I have been saving it for the commute home later! Tracks 1, 4 & 5 I already love.

@ItsJAB4Real What length I won’t go to be adopted by the @DavidArchie fan club 😉

Of course I had to tweet him to let him know about us:

@ItsJAB4Real Check out this blog site. It’s of, for, and by his more “mature” fans. lol. https://thevoicedavidarchuleta.com/

And this is his tweet this morning:

@ItsJAB4Real Driving to Starbucks for cup of joe, I am introducing my son Justin(7) to the majesty of @DavidArchie #ChristmasFromTheHeart #GloryStreams

In less than 24 hours, he goes from “I don’t know much about @davidarchie” to introducing the MAJESTY of @davidarchie to his son!!

While getting ready to leave for work yesterday, my boss called me.
(I had the day off Thursday but all day Wednesday at work, I played CFTH. I took it home with me at night)

Boss: Hey, did you take your Christmas cd home with you?
    Me: I might have.
Boss: Well, could you bring it back today? Don’t be so stingy with that beautiful cd! We were looking for it all morning.
Me: Sure, it’s in my car. (by this time, I was driving down the street. Did a quick u-turn at the hardware store, went back home and picked it up)

What capped off my night was a customer asking whose Christmas music I was playing. When I told her, I couldn’t help but enthuse about his voice. She said “I already know he’s got an incredibly beautiful voice, what I didn’t know was that he had a Christmas cd. Now I need to go get it myself.”
    SCORE.
    It’s the little things. 🙂

Love to you Bluesky. I always appreciate you putting in lovely words just what I am feeling.
I was thinking the other night; I wish that David KNEW that he never needed to worry about how many fans will be at his performances. In truth, there are a thousand fold more there in spirit each and every time. There are a few thousands out in front of him cheering and drinking up each note and smile, and a few thousand more behind him to give him the love and support that we want him to always feel. It’s always a sold out performance.

“In less than 24 hours, he goes from “I don’t know much about @davidarchie” to introducing the MAJESTY of @davidarchie to his son!!”

It’s happening slowly, one person at a time, but I feel that it IS happening. More people are coming around to our side of heaven, from the software engineer to Betsy’s boss. But it would help if more people knew that TOSOD was out there. NEED PROMOTION NOW!

Poof#158 “There are a few thousands out in front of him cheering and drinking up each note and smile, and a few thousand more behind him to give him the love and support that we want him to always feel. It’s always a sold out performance.”

Hope the record labels realize that the proof is in the ticket sales and sold-out performances, and not in record sales. *ahem*

Miss this song LIVE sooo much!

Please continue requesting David’s songs on radio. People are already tweeting that they’ve been hearing some of the songs!

Requests are really important because they show the radio stations that fans want to hear the songs.

If you need assistance, please don’t hesitate to ask! You can do it here or email it to The Voice at TheVoiceDA@gmail.com.

Some radio stations make it easier than others.
Some have a “Request A Song” prominently shown but for others you have to search. If you can’t find a place to request, click “Contact Radio Station” and you should be able to request there.

    Links to request David’s songs:

BTW, I’m finding it easiest to use link #1, the radio locater. I mostly request the stations that play AC (Adult Contemporary) or HAC (Hot Adult Contemporary) music.

Hi Everyone! Don’t post here much, but read constantly. Can’t stay away from David James Archuleta—he’s too beautiful for words. All of you here at this site are such funny, talented, awesome, “real” people. I love coming here.

My opinion about Taylor: She is beautiful, (can’t sing, but she looks good). She can write songs—her lyrics are very relateable to young people. BUT-most of all, they market her like mad. In my smallish town, at our local Target, her CD’s were literally lining the entire entryway and music section. They had posters and cut outs and—you name it, it was there. It was almost like you were going against the flow NOT to buy her CD before you left the store. If that was happening here in my town, I can only imagine what it was like in bigger towns and cities. By the way, I think the store had maybe 8 CD’s of TOSOD on the first day of release–I looked. You would never have known the CD was there unless you were a David fan, like me. I just can’t understand that—but it doesn’t make me mad and crazy anymore.

Sometimes I think David wants to sing to people, to touch people, and be able to make a living at that, and that’s about it. I think if he wanted super stardom, that he would have it. Didn’t I read that Disney made him an offer right after American Idol? He didn’t want to be a Disney kid. I’m sure he would love to have TOSOD do better, but knowing him, he is probably happy that his music is touching the people it is touching. He knows he has to do well enough to keep a label and a manager, but I really wonder how important super stardom is to him, at least right now.

I know David has time, and he knows it, too. His time will come—and I will be there right with him. His talent is so huge—but I will be patient.

Wow, what planet did you guys fall from? JK! All of you write so well, I’m a bit intimidated to post. Lol But I love reading here at the Voice.

#164 I agree. I’m not so sure that David really wants “Super Stardom” and all it entails either. I think he likes retaining a bit of anonymity; being able to go to the store, walk down the street, go running, etc. without hoards of girls running after him. Although, from the smiles during some performances, following the screams, he’s tickled pink that he can send girls over the edge just by singing to them. Haha And, I do believe that the love fans show him at events brings him great joy. But, as long as he has enough fame to be a draw for the charity events he wants to support and is able to make a living doing what he loves, I think he will feel he has met his goals.

I do wish sales would have been better, and I’m sure David does, too. But, hopefully once tour starts, sales will show a significant increase. I’m hoping for sold-out shows and I’m hoping he comes close enough to me that I can contribute to AT LEAST one sold-out show. 🙂

#168 Yayyy for a new live song from David and I love the ending! (not to mention how just plain gorgeous he looked while singing it)

MT, I agree. I think he gets a kick out of it when the fans “show their appreciation” vocally, the smiles on his face say it all!

Because of his pragmatic, “things happen for a reason” approach to life, I think he will be okay with whatever happens – be it superstar or something else, as long as he can keep doing his music and as you said, fulfill his goals.

Just got off the phone with my sister in Sandy, Utah. She lost her 23 year old son last Christmas suddenly to pneumonia. She was so hopeful that she would get tickets to the MoTab concert with David, because he always makes her feel better when she listens to his music. She said his voice has a healing qualify to it and she knew this holiday season was going to be very difficult. The whole family put in for tickets, 30+ of us, and none of us got tickets.

I’m putting this out to his fans just in case there may be extra tickets out there. If anyone has 2 extra tickets that I could get to her and her husband, I would be so very grateful.

@davidstopsmyaging How true. I’ve wondered the very same thing. Superstardom isn’t David’s goal, he just wants to touch people. I think he really wants them to feel the same connection to music as he has. After all, when you think about it, music is very spiritual. It changes your emotions, attitude and can change your life. We are so blessed to have David!

I went to see Les Miserables tonight with my mom and thought of David watching that video when he was just 6 years old. I had forgot some of the songs since I saw it when I was much younger. It amazed me to think about David singing them at such a young age, especially “Castle On a Cloud”. Can’t you just picture him singing this? How I wish I could hear him sing them now. Wouldn’t that be a treat?

Just watched the video from Girls Up of David singing Complain. WOW! It went right onto my ipod (I love my ipod!). I can’t wait to see him on tour early next year and hear all these wonderful songs up close and personal, and since I’ve got CFTH playing daily now, I’m going to put in my request to Santa early for that to happen. 🙂

Bebe, love this because it’s how I feel to…

“At his young age, David has taught me about life, about hope, about having a charitable heart and how good it feels to help someone in need. About sticking it out, picking yourself up and trying again. About recognizing that there is opportunity in everything and about looking at the bright side. And most of all, that the struggle is worth the outcome.”

“Thank you for a jewel of an album.

If you want to chat, type anything (this tells the chat server you are there) in the chat line at the bottom of the chat panel & hit Enter on your keyboard. You will be prompted to “login” with a name (NO password is needed even though there is a space for it).Type the name you want to use, then click” login” again.Type your comment, hit & Enter once again, and you are chatting! Once the server sees a name for you you should not have to do this again, but save these instructions, ok?

    good evening all 🙂
I thought I would give you a recap of what started out to be a typical trip to see my daughter and her family in southeastern Utah. Friday, on the way down, my husband finally said, ‘why don’t you put your new David cd in, I really like that one.’ yep, it was in the cd player pronto, I usually play a mix, so I don’t burn him out on David. Then Saturday, a group of us were going to Blanding (about 20 min. from my daughter’s town) for lunch and our 5-1/2yo g-daughter and her little friend ended up riding with us. Since I knew she is a huge fan, I put David’s cd in, and she and her friend sang along all the way. We ate lunch, then went to the grocery store to pick up some ingredients for dinner later. We were strolling down one of the aisles in this medium sized, home-town grocery store when ‘Crush’ came over the PA sysytem. How come everyone suddenly looked at me?!;) When we got up to the check-out my 7yo grandson came up to me and said ‘Grandma, did you hear that song a minute ago, it’s not playing now, but it was. It was David Archuleta. You’re a fan aren’t you.” I responded with “yes, I admit it, I’m a fan.” When we got back to my daughter’s house, and got dinner started, everyone decided to go for a ride up the mountain. My g-daughter brought out her TOSOD cd, and I recognized it as the original, so I asked her where the copy was that I had made for her to take out of the house. Her mom stated that it was in her brother’s player. I went out to my car and brought in my copy that travels with me and gave it to her–needless to say when hubby asked me to put it in on the way home today, I was sad because I didn’t have it. Then when we had been home about 5 min., my neighbor came to the door with a big smile on her face. She handed me 2 tickets to the MoTab concert for Saturday night!! She sings in the choir, and was able to do some trading around to get me some tickets for that night. After some squeals and hugs, I settled down and she told me they aren’t super seats, but I don’t care. That place is amazing, and they have big screens. As I was standing there, my hubby said, don’t you have something for her? It suddenly hit me, I had a cd waiting to be gifted to someone. What a perfect opportunity. As I handed it to her, she hugged it so tightly I was afraid she would squeeze the air right out of David! She truly was excited to have it. My husband told her to be sure and listen to TAGGB, because it is a perfect song about life. I didn’t realize he had been listening that intently to the words. Anyway, I am one happy camper tonight!

Sorry this is so long, but I had to share my happiness with someone.
