My Kind of Perfect

How do I begin to describe watching David brighten the blighted northeast Ohio for two short Autumn days?
Skate-for-the-Heart

Do I begin with the surreality of picking up Angelica near a mall where I shop? Or our giddy anticipation of being about to experience Archuleta back to back? Or sitting with her and the Snowangels in a restaurant in downtown Youngstown speculating which song he will perform while Joannie Rochette glides through the ice?
How will I forget —
sending furious texts to Angelica in the darkness after the show started, to tell her I found closer seats;
glimpsing the elderly lady next to me who came to watch the Olympic skaters but could not take her eyes off David during the entire time Joannie skated to his rendition of My Kind of Perfect;
watching Joannie climbing up from the ice to give him a big hug after her performance; the pair skaters skating to him to bow their head after THEIR performance; and Straight No Chasers walking over to shake his hands in the group finale;
grabbing Angelica’s arms when we caught sight of David emerging at the side of stage to re-perform his two songs;
witnessing the skate show turning into a de facto mini-concert, David giving his all to perfect his performances, and the skating fans watching in awe of the young man they don’t know much about;
and finally,
listening to Falling Stars with Angelica, in silence, as we drove home from the show in the dark night, barely recovering from the magic we just experienced …
Q92-Stripped-Down-Concert

What touched me the most?
Is it the generosity of a perfect stranger who shared her hard-won concert tickets with me?
Or the straight-A student who skipped school to come to see David, giving up her perfect attendance record? The genuine concerns David expressed because so many teenagers skipped school to see him? The urgency with which he showed them how to go for extra credit to make up for missed school?
Or is it the camera dude who sang along loudly to Elevator when David commanded the GUYS in the audience to SING? The female DJ who gradually turned to mush as she videotaped one performance after another? The Cook fan who came to the concert and lingered till the last moment, and later wrote her own recap?
Or is it the gentleness and kindness with which David treated every fawning woman, every giddy teenage girl, every bashful teen boy, every oblivious toddler, and the occasional self-conscious guys? Or the enthusiasm he greets us with as if each one of us were his ONLY fan? The hundreds of fan-given bracelets and charms tied to his backpack he carried with him everywhere? His twitter compliments to the venue’s chef for the chicken chowder he ate from a Styrofoam cup in the car on the way to his next engagement?
How I wish a camera captured the beautiful Autumn sun that was reflected in his porcelain face; the glistening jewel-colors I saw in his eyes as he looked up at me after signing the autograph; the tenderness with which he touched a little girl’s hair after having greeted 200 fans.
Ah. My kind of concert. My kind of hero. My kind of Ohio.

Yj, Thanks you so much for sharing. He sounded amazing at the Skating Event and it must have been incredible being there. The Q92 performance the next day was epic rambling! I love watching him talk to the crowd and reveal even more of himself. The extra credit was CLASSIC and also showed how hard he works. He gives 100%. I am so glad you guys got to be there together. I hope to meet you someday.
Today is the last day to register for tickets for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Concert. My odds of getting tickets is not great, 1 in a million! Yikes! Even if you can’t go you could register and if you won share tickets with someone who could. I can not tell you how much I would appreciate if someone shared with me, but really, if you win, COME to SLC. It should be wonderful!!!

YJ, what a beautiful 2 days this must have been. I really like the way you have written your thoughts on this–statements and yet questions. It really created a very sensory experience for me. How perceptive of you to really ‘see’ the
“glistening jewel-colors” in his eyes after he signed your CD. I’m always so dumb-founded that I fall apart and become mush-brained. Thank you for sharing these moments with us.

Shawna, Tofan, Betsy, FG, Refnaf, Djhsail, Tawna, cb, Thank you for your kind words! To be honest, I don’t know how I was able to write this recap, because the only memory from these two days that I REALLY have is the palette of brilliant colors in his eyes when he looked up — colors I can only describe as the Autumn sun in the azure sky glistening in the emerald ocean. What a fresh approach to writing a recap!
It’s all in the details…the giddy anticipation that comes when you’re on your way to see David, noticing as new fans catch the bug and as people watch in awe, witnessing how David treats all of his fans the same, the chowder, the sing-a-long, the backpack…
Oh let me count the ways and the many many reasons we’re all on this fantastic journey. My kind of recap!
#YJ13 This bears repeating:

Angelica: I saw your comment in the previous thread about me not coming here much. I always read all posts and comments and find The Voice a fascinating site. It’s just that there’s usually soooo much to read over here, so I won’t even try to keep up with everything lol. I just read it at my own pace afterwards 🙂
There are so many David-sites that I visit daily and try to keep up with in “real time”, ’cause the time difference is quite a lot between the US and Finland, and it’s hard when I just want to join in on all the fun but everyone’s asleep when I’m up and vice versa 😀
I love The Voice. I should say that more often. I don’t usually post here, though, because I think my style is not “eloquent” or “beautiful” or anything of the sort that you guys express in your writing.
But thank you so much for commenting on my MKOP cover ❤ I didn't even know JR was "leaking" it all over the place lol 😀

Diana Levine, the photographer for “A Day in the Life” was so taken by David (no surprise), that I had to copy her comment here for all to see:
“Here are some photos I shot for A Day in the Life: David Archuleta for PopEater. This was a great shoot – he is such a positive, talented young musician, and his energy and love for his work is infectious. We started the day at Jive Records, where he signed lots of copies of his new album, The Other Side of Down. We then documented the rest of his day, recording liners, doing interviews for Alloy.com, checking out his new “Archie App”, interviews with Associated Press, MTV (10 on Top and and MTV News with Jim Cantiello), and more. It was a blast getting to know him, and I can’t wait to see what he does next. You can check out the video documentary I shot, below.”

Please forgive. I failed to comment on your delightful recap of a weekend in Ohio I will never forget. Make that another weekend in Ohio I will never forget, as last December’s CFTH is burned into my soul. It is marvelous how you crafted this recap as a kind of Q&A straight from your heart to ours. I loved every moment of the time we spent together, all the moments with other fans, and of course, being “In This Moment” with David. It feels so good to bask in his warmth and feel the love that abounds in his presence, whether he is singing, rambling, or casually interacting with his fans.
All of you international fans, keep requesting the label and tweeting for David to come to your country. If you have to travel a little far, you will not be disappointed. I hope many of you get to see him soon.

YJ, This is truly so clever, so succinct yet so emotional, and sooo powerful, I hardly know how to express myself. Just like Shawna in the very first comment, I could only think of one word in describing how I felt when I finished reading your recap—WOW!!! (with a major pause and deep sigh!) The three questions that you pose: How do I begin? How will I forget? What touched me the most? are brilliant!! Answering each of those questions just built on top of each other with exquisite vocabulary, describing everything and more of what many of us have experienced with David but wouldn’t be able to come close to expressing like you have here. I just find myself wanting to say WOW over and over again. Can you tell how much I loved it. I am so happy that you were able to share it with Angelica in such a special way. I loved picturing and “feeling” your moment together listening to Falling Stars in silent overwhelmingness (word?). All I can think of to say here is, thank you. Thank you for noticing all the intricate, moving, riveting, details of everything around you and surrounding David, but especially capturing “who he is.”

Thank you Momjulee, Djafan, skydancer, JR, Ilovedavid, Pattirae — I described so little, yet you all understood so much. When you have David as the muse, every ordinary writer is turned into an accidental poet.
Abrra, “I felt the friendship that happens whenever fans gather in one place. Its as much about the people you meet as it is about David.”
What is it about us that we hear in his voice and see in his person something that the rest of the world cannot, do not, and perhaps will never hear or see. Is that what binds us together?
Embre, like you, English is not my first language, and not even my second, but we all speak the universal language of David, and YOU speak it fluently, my friend!
Speaking of recaps, Ms. Archugeezer (#22) has a fun one here => http://mormonarchuletafan.wordpress.com/
Angelica, I hope you have forgiven me for grabbing your arms so hard at the sight of David emerging at the side of the stage, for getting lost over and over again, and for bumping you when I drove through the curb cut from the parking lot in my post-M&G daze. Thank you for the ultimate experience – taking in the Archuleta with the Angelica. Now that I have warmed up the audience for you, are you going to tell us soon what YOU experienced in those two sweet Autumn days? 🙂

YJfan, I’m sorry for not commenting on your fabulous writing earlier – I can’t believe I forgot to do that, because your recap made me feel like I was present in that moment. Your writing is exceptional, like a poetic stream of thoughts and still so easy to understand and take in. I actually wrote something just now, after listening to TOSOD. Here it is if you want to read it.
“You know when you love a song so much you have to listen to it on full blast, even though it hurts your ears a bit… and you still feel like it’s not loud enough, like you want to hear every little detail and maybe even a breath intake here or there, just to feel the singer caressing the song into life..
And then you just get lost in the song, like you had dived into water, and it’s kind of surrounding you and the water flows into your eyes and ears and nose and your every sense comes alive just for that song, that sound, and you feel the music like you feel the blood in your veins..
and when the song stops you feel like something’s missing… so you need to play the song again… and even though you know exactly how the song goes, you know it by heart, you still get chills everytime you listen to it.
That’s why I love David. I get lost in him everyday and I don’t want to find a way out. Ever.”

YJ,
I’m amazed. English is not your first or second language? And yet, you write so wonderfully well of how we all feel about our beloved David. I was so emotionally affected by your recap, how you connected the various snippets and vignets of experiences and observations which all give a collective image of why we all hold David so dear to our hearts. I was in tears after reading the last sentence.
I also hold the same feelings you do about our fandom : “What is it about us that we hear in his voice and see in his person something that the rest of the world cannot, do not, and perhaps will never hear or see. Is that what binds us together?” I believe Silverfox had an unusual explanation for it that has something to do with our former lives which some will find incredulous or even laughable. But sometimes it makes you wonder why there is this strong bond and innate mutual understanding among us, complete strangers from different places yet we feel like long-lost friends when we meet, that many others do not feel with such intensity and passion.
I recently had an email exchange with my father about the commonality of reincarnation as a belief, though not outwardly taught, in most religions, which he concluded from his studies on theologies and metaphysical subjects. Some of you may not believe in the concept, but it is something which recently is helping me rationalize my puzzling ODD on a different level. It is truly uncanny why we all follow David so closely, every day, constantly, ever since we first ‘discovered’ him. He is always in our minds.
He has managed so far to put half a million of us under his twitter spell, with the number still rising. And he thinks he is weird and dull!
Oh, and since Angelica, you and I are such goners for Falling Stars, check this piano cover out. It’s aahhmmaazzingly good.

YJ#42 “What is it about us that we hear in his voice and see in his person something that the rest of the world cannot, do not, and perhaps will never hear or see. Is that what binds us together?”
I think about this all the time. Do you think that perhaps we all have something similar but profound in our personalities, a characteristic that draws us to David and to each other?
And Embe#43 Your writing is a breath of fresh air! Your point of view is inspiring! Please come back here often!
“You know when you love a song so much you have to listen to it on full blast, even though it hurts your ears a bit… and you still feel like it’s not loud enough, like you want to hear every little detail and maybe even a breath intake here or there, just to feel the singer caressing the song into life..

This is brilliant! I’ve often wondered too, why it is that when I put on my headphones and crank up the volume on David’s music that it’s never too loud. Is something wrong with my hearing? Any other music at that decibel is piercing and I’m forced to remove the headphones. Your analogy to being surrounded in water makes perfect sense. I’ve verbalized it as needing to be saturated in the sound of his voice.
Asphill#44 “But sometimes it makes you wonder why there is this strong bond and innate mutual understanding among us, complete strangers from different places yet we feel like long-lost friends when we meet, that many others do not feel with such intensity and passion.”
So true! It makes you wonder how it could be that someone you never met can understand you better than someone you’ve known most of your life? David’s fans share a deep connection to him and to each other; we communicate from the heart.
Asphill, please add me to that list of goners for “Falling Stars”. The song owns me, from the first time I heard David sing it on the video from Witchita.

Embe – about the breathing, I wrote this in a card for David a very long time ago:
“If I could give you back a tiny piece of what you’ve given me, I’d take a breath from God, wrap it up in angel’s wings and send it sailing to you. You’d open it and know and feel all at once the beauty of this world and marvel with me at what a breath can do.”

I have had so many discussions with myself trying to rationalize this phenomenon that just when I think I have justified my behavior I realize how irrational I come across to others and I just tell myself it is what is. Maybe some day it will all be clear to us. In the meantime, what is David doing right now?

That is one of the songs that I swim in and feel it swimming in my veins as well, like Embe said. I have felt that with other songs of his as well, that voice inside me like warm liquid flowing through my veins and it’s almost like I don’t hear it at all but some higher sense is at work and everything, everything is the voice.

Here’s “Elevator” from last night!

“In which David graciously signs a CD for a fan in the front row, and then engages the audience with Elevator. I love the end where he asks for audience participation, and don’t miss Mike K’s accompaniment, especially during this part where he seems to know exactly whether to strum loud or soft or not at all for the audience parts. Elevator live is so much fun!”

The Other Side of Down Suits David Archuleta Just Fine
Christa Banister : TheFish.com Contributing Writer
Artist: David Archuleta
Title: The Other Side of Down
Label: Jive
In the 2000 movie High Fidelity, a perpetually down-on-his-luck record store owner named Rob (played by John Cusack) posed the following cosmic question: Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?
Well, whatever came first, the music or the misery, American Idol alum David Archuleta definitely seems to understand Rob’s plight on his third album, The Other Side of Down. While anyone expecting a plodding downer of an album filled with songs in decidedly minor keys may be disappointed by how Archuleta sings the blues, fans of Archuleta’s previous work will be delighted by his growth, both musically and lyrically.
Recently admitting to MTV.com that “everyone has those rough patches, so I don’t want to ignore them and act like everything’s hunky dory,” Archuletta sings about life’s rougher moments with the conviction of someone who’s been there and explores with new quality—hip-hop, dance and R&B—in the process.
While there’s not a bad track in the bunch, a rarity in our singles-driven marketplace, there are still a few standouts including “Elevator,” a catchy piece on the somewhat-awkward process of growing up and “Things Are Going to Get Better” where Archuletta’s stellar pipes get an even bigger lift with a stellar backing choir.
Getting a little introspective, “Who Am I” explores the question that everyone has asked him/herself at some point in time, while “Look Around,” one of the album’s most club-friendly tracks, invites listeners to see the beauty in the simple things.
Despite all the venting, however, Archuletta never seems to lose sight of the fact that he’s got plenty to be thankful for, and songs like “Complain,” “Good Place” and “My Kind of Perfect” not only acknowledge this, but offer an engaging sense of optimism in the process, the perfect antidote for life’s more challenging moments.

Time will continue to pass, DA. Your voice will continue to deepen, enrich and gain strength. You will continue to get more and more of those “deadly skills” mentioned so often. *sigh*
(On a side note, I believe I saw an obscure news item concerning 3 Fairy God Mothers who were disbarred recently and sent to an alternate universe. It seems they recklessly exceeded their authority by creating a being that was 99% magic. And could sing. At sentencing they appeared remarkably unrepentant.)
DA, sometimes I feel that if I really could “hold on to your hand” (as you so excellently, passionately and convincingly suggest) I would be mercifully zapped into oblivion.
(Perhaps I could make a fourth for lunch.)

Interesting observation you made about his eyes in #86. I have to agree with you. There’s a quality about David’s eyes that is undefined, for lack of a better word and yet so terribly beautiful at the same time. I think you’re getting somewhere when you say “…his eyes always look as though he is asking a question. His gaze always goes outward…He always looks into people.”

If David’s vocals last night is any indication of what we can expect from him on his TOUR, we are in for one heck of a show! His vocals seem to get better & better with each performance. “Angels” was fantastic & is one of his best renditions & the way he looked right into the camera several times gave me chills!
The question is…WHEN might we expect to hear something definite about a tour in the works? I hope David realizes how anxious we are for a solo tour. Enough with these little radio station promos already. I know they are a prelude for what’s to come which is why I’m so ready for his next solo tour! 🙂
One thing I just don’t understand…David has over 500K followers on twitter…which BTW does not include every single die-hard fan as not all his fans have a twitter account, but even if only half of his twitter followers are DIE-HARD David Archuleta fans who were waiting breathlessly for TOSOD, how is it that his album sales are below 50K?? I just don’t get it!? I realize not all David’s fans can afford to purchase his album, but come on! Surely in the US alone there are at least 50K fans of David’s who can afford to BUY his album! All I can say to those “fans” who downloaded his album or any of the songs on his album, illegally, shame on you!! Unfortunately, those “fans” will not care or even see my rant but at least I feel better for ranting.
David deserves so much better for what he does for us just with his voice & by his very existence.
Now I’ll just go to my corner and listen again to the videos from last night. David continues to give 110% everywhere he goes, no matter the size of the audience. He is an amazing artist, the consummate professional. Is there any doubt he is The Voice of this generation?

No doubt. And David really KNOWS to pace himself on twitter which is what makes his tweets so special & randomly wonderful. When I get a tweet on my phone from David, it just makes me so happy just to know what he’s thinking. Someday a collection of his tweets will make a great book! 😀

SF–I agree with the term “idiot” savant even being “loving used” –I prefer “dorky” savant or “just being who he is savant”. I read a description about someone else that fits David to a tee. It said the person thinks at “warp speed” and sometimes starts to say a word– is hesitant ( like they’re thinking way ahead of themselves) and that makes them appear to stumble over words. Sometimes David will start to say a word–then stop on one syllable–say another word in its place–then two words later use the original word he was going to say in his reply. Am I explaining very clearly? Savant is ONE correct word tho.

Hi all. I’m taking the liberty of bringing over my recent posts from the You Tube video of “Angels” from “8th Row Center” from Pittsburgh. Much has been written about David’s CD sales (or lack thereof), so here is my 2 cents.
“Once again David shows us that he is the best singer on the planet. He has 500,000 followers on Twitter. His new CD is fantastic and needs to be bought or downloaded legally. Why would someone follow an artist on Twitter and not support him by buying his work? Look at David giving 150% on this stage. It’s not enough to vote for him on meaningless polls. David deserves the respect of everyone who calls themselves a fan by OWNING his CD. He deserves nothing less.”
“David’s CD can be bought for less than the price of going to a movie. To those who love him, he is an artist and a magical person. To his label, he is a product that either makes them money or doesn’t. David is not about the money, but if we want David to remain available to us as a performing and recording artist, he will need a label that can show a profit from his CDs. Drooling over David’s good looks and wonderful personality will not get that done”.
A poster referred to David as a “balladeer”. I couldn’t let that go without comment.
“With all due respect, I don’t see David as a “balladeer”. David can sing it all at the highest level . David’s “problem” has nothing to do with any aspect of his talent. The reason he is not selling CDs like hotcakes has to do with the lingering public misconceptions about him. There is so much mythology about David, his biography should be written by Homer. What is true, however, is that he is, hands down, the best singer on the music scene today and his CD sales don’t reflect it”.
End of You Tube posts.
Bottom line. David Archuleta is a musical genius. The American music buying public wouldn’t know a musical genius if it landed on the “Jersey Shore”.

Hey Bliss,
I’ve seen you out on youtube and I agree. For some reason the states seemed to have had their ears and hearts ruined by what radio plays calling it music.
I’d like David to do a world tour and start in the Asian countries where they appreciate, value, and recognize a great voice and amazing songs. Their support for David has not wavered, he is constantly on the radio there and charting on many music charts. So hopefully by the time he comes back to the states those here3 will be ready and will have witnessed how to value a true artist.

Just in response to buying the CD, and downloading. I am aure that a lot of us have even bought way more than one, so that even makes it look worse than it is. I bought one from Amazon, the fan pack, six from target, and ten from Smith’s Marketplace here in Utah, plus downloaded both the pre-ordered deluxe cd and the cd from itunes, and then when I couldn’t get it to work on my iphone, I bought and downloaded both the deluxe CD and the CD on another itunes account. So I alone count for 18 physical CD’s and 4 itunes ones. It really is a shame, cause he worked so hard on it, but apparently CD’s just aren’t selling. Walmart told me the market is the movies and most people just download illegally instead of buying it. This is sad. How do people live with themselves when they are really breaking the law by doing it? I just don’t get it and wonder why 501,000 are following him and not buying it. It would already be gold if they all had just bought one!!!

If you leave your truer than true comments on any of his VIVO vid hopefully all of those casual or may I say those who want to steal from our fantastic David may think twice before they do it illegally. Afterall David is all about goodness it would be shameful x 2 to steal from him. What galls me about these CD sales is that that it flies in the face of David’s presumed popularity. He is Mr. go-to guy for the media on all questions about American Idol. Every clone shock jock and sidekick shock- chick can’t get enough of him, and fall in love with him by the end of the interview. Every personal appearance is met with Elvis-esque hysteria. He is told time and time again that he is loved by millions and he is available to everyone at all times. He wins every popularity poll his name is on.
Where are these millions of fans? 500,000 Twitter followers, my ass. People here and elsewhere have said that they have bought multiple copies. That makes it even worse in terms of actual numbers of buyers. I’d like to call every one of his “followers” and ask them to show me their CD or proof of download. Aren’t even half of these “followers” fans of his music?
David called his fans “go-getters”. They need to live up to his praise and “go get” his CD, and pronto!

Pretty sure David has a lot of non fans following him on Twitter.
Because his tweets are so loved, he almost always has several TOP TWEETS every week.
They show up on the site right before one logs in. And everyone on Twitter sees this.
p.s.
People magazine did an article last week on gay teen suicide and bullying. Then this week they reviewed David’s cd and called it bubble gum pop. (they did say his voice was beautiful)
It would’ve been great if they mentioned how David has helped many through dark days. I read one young person’s comment somewhere and that is exactly what he said.
Maybe they need a researcher.
Sorry, rambling at 1:30 a.m. – I never make sense.

Dear Bliss,
I have so agreed with everything you’ve said in #102 and #113. I am almost in anguish over some of the things I’ve read today on other sights about him just not making the grade to be a pop singer like he wants to be. Of course they are basing their reasoning on several factors, but low CD sales seems to the main one. I certainly don’t have any answers, just am soooo puzzled like Bliss as to why he has so many twitter followers, why he wins so many fan polls, why so many scream at the top of their lungs when they see him at a concert (and then SCREAM for more), why he is in such demand for quality shows (Skate, Celtic, MDA, Arthur Ashe, MTV, etc),why DJ’s love him so, and on and on. I know I am just repeating everything Bliss has mentioned but I can’t help it. The very same thing has been on my mind all day. I just don’t understand why all these fans and events don’t add up to several hundred thousand in CD sales. It really just blows my mind. Like Bliss says, “he is the best singer on the planet.” If there are still so many misconceptions out there, why did “Crush” do so well? why did he sale 900,000 CD’s last go around? Because I love every song so much on this new CD, I really did assume that “everyone” would love it like I do. Please, I need help! or answers, one or the other.

David have a lot of international twitter followers, especially Asian ones. Those twitter followers might have bought his CD’s but the international sale isn’t counted in the US sale. This might explain why the album sale is so disproportional from the number of twitter followers?

“I think it’s important to remember that David is, first and foremost, a humanitarian. Singing is his way of manifesting his humanity, and reaching people.”
“This world is a much better place because David Archuleta walks amongst us.”
Just had to repeat this.
I’ve been reading the reviews and 8 out of 10 are positive, mostly getting better reviews than Mars, yet Mars is selling. It all points to promo. So here’s to getting promo going.
And here is another review from the New York Post that praises TOSOD from a critic who was prepared to hate it.
DAVID ARCHULETA
“The Other Side of Down”
***
HAVING been totally prepared to hate David Archuleta’s sophomore album, “The Other Side of Down,” as being more mush from the wimp, the disc is shockingly good, displaying huge musical evolution beyond the “American Idol”-style schlock ‘n’ roll.
While Archuleta’s voice is still bright and youthful, the sugar is gone. You hear that in mature lyrics that have emotional depth in songs such as “Falling Stars,” “My Kind of Perfect” and “Stomping the Roses.” After his stint on “American Idol” and his debut record, it seemed as if this kid were pure plastic. This record’s pulse says otherwise.

Welcome to first time posters, including MomwithODD and A Fan! Hope to see you around here often. Your comments are welcome!
It’s not accurate to use the number 500,000 as a yardstick for measuring the amount of fans David has. They’re not all David’s fans; they’re fans of Twitter and found out that it’s cool to follow David, Mr. Twitter Universe. In addition, some of them became fans right after American Idol and may have lost interest by now but are still counted.
The night TOSOD was leaked on youtube I had a sinking feeling. How could AOL have not locked their files? Those leaked songs remained on youtube far too long, a few days, I think, waiting to be illegally downloaded. It’s hard to believe but there are actually some people who don’t understand the piracy thing and think that if the files are available on youtube it must be okay to download. And then of course there are those who know very well that they’re stealing but do it anyway. They promise to buy the cd when it comes out but either forget or don’t have the funds.
The combination of brand new music and new technology is a real problem. But the stealing of music online is going to happen whether we like it or not. That’s why the first week’s sales of any album should not accurately reflect the amount of interest in any new cd. If there was a way to add the number of TOSODs that were illegally downloaded online, I’m sure we’d see a much higher number of ‘sales’.
One more thing…why isn’t David on TV, promoting the cd? His Today Show appearance the week he was in NY was canceled but not rescheduled. He was in Los Angeles last week. Why didn’t he turn up on nighttime TV talk shows to promote sales? I don’t understand why Jive didn’t make this happen.
People are not going to buy TOSOD if they don’t know it exists.

Good Morning Everyone! It is quite early for me, and all sites are still sleeping! I just want to say that “The Voice” is a “Good Place” to come and listen to the very eloquent dialogue from wonderful fans. I am a little intimidated by all of the great writers here, but want you all to know that it is always such a warm, fuzzy, cozy place to lurk!!!
David is listening to his label, his management, his fans and lastly, and most importantly, his inner voice. I hope that the pressure he is must be feeling from all of these sources is more supportive than paralyzing. We all love this young man to infinity and back, and something is just not right about these numbers!! A fan on FOD found 7 sites one day where you could download just TOSOD for free. Each of those 7 sites had 15,000 and more downloads. The next day she found more. She reported them to Jive, and I think some were shut down, but not all. It has been reportd previously when his first album came out that David’s music was the most sought after to download. This is David’s livihood…I am just so upset about this aspect alone. What can we do. Can we challenge and shame those who have done this to go and buy a physical copy or go to itunes to buy one?? Could a campaign like that work?
This is all so troubling as, we all know that David is the best singer out there. I am an 60 something fan, so I have heard many singers. No one in my lifetime has come close to touching my heart in quite the same way as dear David. His voice and heart are always in unison…creating magic!!!
One thing all of you can do to help David is to please go to VEVO and stream his videos! SBL just went over the 4 million mark last night. David is compensated with $$$$….$25-40 for every 1000 hits for any of his songs on VEVO. (GG -found this information) It is such an easy peasy way to help David, and at the same time hear his great music! You do have to keep clicking replay, as I have not found a way to a steady stream.
Thank you everyone for spreading David’s love with all of your wonderful messages! This is a “Good Place”! Leave the light on for me…I will be back! 🙂

You are welcome momwithodd! It’s nice to see familiar faces on the voice!
Bebe and Sharon, you both seem to understand the nature of this illegal downloading and how it effects the artist. Being a first time fan of anyone it sure has opened my eyes. I too remember David’s being the most sought illegal download and now it seems that way again.
Sharon, I hope and pray that David is looking at this without stressing himself. That the label and new management and those close to him regroup and work out plan of action on where to go from here. I keep saying David sells himself, they just need to put him out in the public eye.
Sharon, Glad you came out of lurking and yes please come back and join in!!!
