Ah Betsy and Paula…congratulations! It looks like this young fellow will give us plenty to write about in the days ahead and hopefully that means that we should try to make his performances, right? Well I am only kidding, because it will not be easy to follow him around for the first hand reviews, so I dream on!

Canton Q92 DJ just uploaded her vids from yesterday.

I talked to her briefly before David’s performances. She was impressed with David’s fans calling from “all over the world” about the concert. As she sat on the floor next to me videotaping his performances, I watched her watching David. She was smitten, acting like a fangirl just like the rest of us! Way to go David. One DJ at at time 🙂

David Archuleta: “It’s Great To Have a Latina Judge on “American Idol”

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

    Getty Images

American Idol alum, David Archuleta stopped by ABC’s Live With Regis and Kelly yesterday to promote his sophomore album, The Other Side of Down—which came out yesterday—and the part-Honduran singer told Regis Philbin he’s excited about new AI judges, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

“I think it’s kind of exciting,” Archie gushed. “They’re both very talented and they’ve both worked very hard in their lives to be where they are,” he added.

The AI alum also applauded Idol for making the new panel diverse—both ethnically and musically. “I love that they’re having a Latina on the judges panel with Jennifer Lopez and then a rocker with Steven Tyler. They will be cool because they both have different audiences that I think they’ll bring in.”

When Kelly Ripa asked Archie if he’d ever consider being a guest judge on Idol, the singer scored big laughs from the audience with his response: “I don’t know if I’d be the best judge because I think the problem is I talk too much without getting to the point.” That doesn’t bother us, David: We’ll listen to you all day long!

I have signed up for 4 tickets to The Mormon Tabernacle Choir ( I like the way it looks all typed out, don’t you? )/David Archuleta performance. If I win the lottery, all 4 of mine are up for grabs 🙂

Bebe & Djafan, thanks for the welcoming post for the newest writers.
On today’s topic, I will try to explain how important it is to me that we have been able to attract more writers for the site. We admins are almost a year into this experience of running a fan site. None of us has ever done anything like this in the past. It’s a learning curve on a daily basis. We are very diverse in our approach. I think this diversity is the key to keeping things running so smoothly. It’s not always the easiest task to come up with relevant articles that are fresh and inviting. That we have people who are willing to step up and commit to writing something for TheVoice is huge! My wish is that more will decide to join in as time goes on. Everyone has a voice and a story in them.

Last July 26th, in my Radio Rant article, I wrote this in comments, to give some insight to how I approach topics.

“Back when we 5 ( now 4) admins got together, I was the last hold out to join in. I knew that the things on my mind are not always how most fans think. I was not sure I had what it takes to write articles that would be interesting to fans. I have said in meetings several times when we discuss who is working on an article or who has an idea, ” I can’t write about topics that I think about”. I was concerned that I would turn fans off with my perspective on some aspects of David’s journey. I am relieved to find acceptance.”

“We wanted TheVoice to be a place to come to celebrate David’s music, and career in general. We hoped that fans would come to read, then comment. More than that, we hoped that fans would jump in and write articles alongside us. We hoped to create a new fan community. I see we have met those goals. Thanks to all who read and discuss the material here at TheVoice.”

I think this is worth repeating because this site is more than articles on a celebrity. Its a shared experience of people who have real lives, real concerns, real hopes. Being a fan of David has rallied us all to comment here and in the process become friends. For me this site, as well as David himself, is the glue to keeping my fandom alive. I revel in the comments by every last one who shares here. I learn from the perspective expressed of others. Seeing a “new” poster de-lurk just makes my day!

“One last thing, if you have something you want to say from your heart, you can pick the topic, please send a draft to Angelica at TheVoiceDA@gmail.com. It would be so wonderful to have more voices in the writing pool.”

Thanks for all your comments. It feels good to sit back while David is in between gigs. The Voice is our home online and it is really a labor of love to be part of a fanbase who is both respectful and and passionate of the subject of this site. A hearty welcome to Betsy and Paula to the writing staff!

You’ll see in another of pastel’s videos below that David talks about the vast age range of his fans, one of the reasons that makes his fanbase so strong and enthusiastic. It’s just David, talking to his adoring audience. I got the same feeling as when I watched the Live Ustream chat last week. Warm fuzzies. 😀
    Enjoy!

“David Archuleta deciding on 5th song to sing at the Q92 Radio Stripped Down event, Canton Ohio, Oct. 11, 2010. David feels guilty ending quickly and adds one more song. He then finds someone watching him in the building across from him. He then talks about the ages of his fans. Too funny! Loved the Rambling Man! Recorded on October 11, 2010 using a Flip Video camcorder.”

Bebe #21 – Love, love, love the video from Artprize! Now everyone can see how huge the crowd was! I can’t believe I was standing in the midst of all that! Wow, what a sight he had coming out on stage!

And yes, I can see where I am standing. Well, I can see the giant guy in front of me. He ended up standing sideways so I could see. I was to the right of where the dj’s were standing about 15′ back.
p.s. He was texting someone during David’s set. What I wouldn’t give to know what he was saying. He was kind of entranced, lol.

Guilty as charged—just been sitting back with my feet up lovin every stinkin minute of all the pictures -videos–personal stories – spazzing–thudding- David songs- David’s rambling, which tickles me to see him comfortable enough to do so. He’s such a natural. Wish I could contribute a awesome concert re-cap–but isn’t to be YET! Boy,if they could announce some kind of concert plans sure would help. I have applied for tickets to the MTC concert also, can’t go, but am willing to make some ones day! I’d like to take about 150,000 DJs by the neck and shake the livin stuffin out of them, wish they could think for themselves. Over and Out

The rescue of the Chilean miners is now imminent. A time for joy and thanks to God and those who have been working so hard during the last months to make it happen. It might be appropriate to post this link to Rita McNeil’s tribute to all those who toil underground.

SweetOnDA…this draw is rather funny because people on facebook will be quite busy! I don’t use facebook. In the end there is no fareness just how many friends people ask otheres to register for tickets and many older people will ask less I believe than younger facebook people. Tickets acquired like those for sale may even be more fare…but those are my thoughts that can easily be debated…

Steno–Thank you so much for that video. My mind is numb– I can’t even imagine what working in a mine would be like. Men and boys going into peril everyday. May the Lord see these men out safely and give them the peace they need with their families before the media finds them. God bless their rescuers and families.

Stenocruiser…Yes a miracle in the making for sure. It will be a long & slow process bringing the men up from the darkness to the daylight. An even longer process for the men to adapt to a normal existence after being in total darkness for so long. I pray all goes according to plan & the rescue is successful.

I don’t know why, but I was bothered David’s tweet this morning:

“If we do not do what we are suppose to do then we should not be surprised when the end result is a disappointment and we have no one to blame but ourselves.”

Is he blaming himself for a bad or wrong decision? Seems to me everything he does, he does with the best of intentions. But everything that happens in our lives, happens for a reason although there are some things we can control so ultimately, he’s right.

I just want David to always be as happy as he makes us with just the sound of his voice.

Dear David, Wherever you are, Buenas Noches! Sleep well with sweet & happy dreams. Thank you for all you do and for who you are. Keep with you all our love, support & prayers always. Contigo siempre! We will be with you always! God Bless & keep you in his care.

Thanks Steno. Just like that, I am reminded of all I have to be thankful for. God bless those that were trapped and their families awaiting the rescue happening as we speak. The rescue teams have been diligent in handling every move they’ve made with extreme care and I am humbled by the leaders who have taken these miners into their hearts. I wish them all a safe, speedy, and healthy recovery.

I may be a punk rock lovin’ mama but I am still a sucker for a good pop album (and cute boys with sweet falsetto’s). So, in case you’re giggling that I’m writing about David Archuleta – Shoosh, you! Also, I can listen to this album with my girls without having to censor any lyrics.

The Other Side of Down is David’s brand new album and it’s really good. I hear clicks and beeps and I like songs with clicks and beeps and gosh darnit, I like this album. It’s a little bit pop and a little bit rock and not very far off from a lot of the poppier indie rock stuff that I like. (Ben Gibbard, Andrew McMahon, Jim Adkins). I pretty much dig every track but I’m finding that the songs I keep humming are “Parachutes and Airplanes”, “Something ’bout Love”, and “Elevator”.

Maybe you didn’t know this but back in 2008 during Season 7 (wherein I was pleasantly surprised by the talent), I was praising David right and left, as evidence by my fury of American Idol posts at the Chicago Moms Blog

I know in 2008 I referred to him as “little” and “cute” (because he was) but there’s nothing little and cute about his voice. He has a strong, magnificent voice and look, foreshadowing again, he’s going to be making hit after hit for a long time to come. You can quote me on that.

On a scale of 1-10, The Other Side of Down gets an overall perfect score from me.
    Singability Factor – 10
    Danceability Factor – 10
    Head bopping Factor – 10

I’m giving away 3 copies of David’s new album and entering to win one isn’t all that hard. All you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this post. You can say something nice about David (in case *gasp* he reads this post!) or, let us know if you would keep the CD or who you would give it to? I had a copy sent to my mom, because I’m a good daughter.

This giveaway will end on Thursday, October 21st at midnight PST and three (3) winners will be chosen at random and announced via our Facebook Fan Page, Twitter and this post. This giveaway is open to residents of the continental US.

Good luck! While you’re waiting to find out if you’re one of the winners, check out David’s video for “Something ’bout Love“

SB #27, This is the first time I’m trying to get tickets to this performance, but talking with many of the my LDS friends, it’s not unusual to have people register for you to help get tickets. I’m on facebook but I’m not using it to get more help, only my LDS friends who know how much I love David. In fact, they have come to me and asked me if they could help. It’s all just luck anyway. I guess a lottery is the best way to make it fair in the end. When you put on a free concert every year, especially one with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, it’s going to be very popular. Toss in David and I wouldn’t be surprised if they have the most people registering they’ve ever had.
