Confession. I was opposed to the release of snippets from “The Other Side of Down” but I changed my mind. You see, when snippets were released from David’s first, self-titled CD, I was disappointed because after all the anticipation, I felt they didn’t do justice to the most beautiful voice I had ever heard. The snippet for “Touch My Hand,” for example, was a let-down for me, and the rest of the assortment, except for a few, was not much better. I thought, was this the best the writers could do for such an amazing voice?
I later learned that snippets are not necessarily taken from the final cut of the song nor are they likely the best part of a song. They’re used to tease the fans into buying the album. When “David Archuleta” was finally released in November 2008, the full tracks sounded 100 times better! Fast forward to the present and I am head over heels in love with all the songs on David’s first CD, including the bonus songs. Odd that when I listen to the old snippets now, I find nothing wrong with them. But had I been an almost-fan at the time, instead of a full-fledged fan, I could have had second thoughts about buying the album.
This time around, Jive is singing a whole other tune, pun intended. We’ve been treated to two full songs, “Something ‘Bout Love” and “Elevator”; heard live versions of two others, “Parachutes and Airplanes” and “Things Are Gonna Get Better.” In addition to snippets from the tracks of “The Other Side of Down” and “Stomping The Roses,” “Who I Am,” and “Falling Stars,” we even got to hear a bit of an unnamed track in a bubbletweet.
With the album release date approaching, David has been spoon-feeding us previews of the songs from TOSOD in a guided tour of the album while very comfortably riding in a hansom cab through Central Park, munching on what I am guessing are New York City’s famous honey roasted peanuts bought from a vendor right in the park. An ingenious way to introduce fans to his new songs with David explaining the meaning behind each track. TOSOD has an eclectic mix of songs: pop, soul, country/pop, sassy vibes, all infused with David’s personality.

This time, I’m not disappointed in any of the snippets. In fact, I’m loving every single one of them. The full songs not yet heard will be the icing on a very delicious cake. Although I’m not always in agreement with Jive’s promotion policies or lack thereof, they’ve shown they have faith in David’s abilities by giving him over 70 writers with which to work, resulting in his authorship on ten of the twelve songs. His genius will be all over this CD, showing up in lyrical phrasing and musical passages. We will see it in subtleties and nuances in the words and melodies, a dream come true for diehard fans. His creativity and storytelling skills will be apparent in these songs which will soon become woven into the tapestry of our lives. Touching a wider audience, more people will be affected and changed for the better. It is the power of The Voice and he is unstoppable.
David is standing on the threshold of something magical. We know how healing his music has been to people and the many lives it has changed. I just know it will happen again, with this new dose of music, as the CD makes it’s journey through the world. Given the opportunity to grow and stretch as an artist and to learn from seasoned writers and producers, I can only imagine what more is in store for us. This time, however, I cannot get enough snippets, bubble tweets or any other morsels thrown my way. In fact, they can’t come soon enough!

I’m a snippet lover, I loved his first cd snippets, but I’ll confess this time around with the story behind each song being told by David eating and explaining, hearing “him” in these songs have me tightly wound in anticipation for the whole enchilada!

When I compare the snippets from the first cd and this one, the difference I feel is a cool, quirky, as you say, sassy vibe. It’s going to a honey of an album, I just know it. I personally love snippets but you can’t make a meal of them. They just leave you wanting more!
On October 5th, I am going to make a complete pig of myself. 😛

I’v spent the morning trying to find a little bit of chocolate around here…all I could find is a couple of m&m’s that the dog had licked and baking chocolate! Ewww!
I love the snippets but I am like most of you…just need a little more to tide me over. I have had the house to myself this morning and it has been an all David household so far today. Music loud and beautiful…started the playlist at the beginning and listened to all the songs and starting on the second time around. Laundry and dishes don’t seem so bad with David around.
Now off to search for chocolate in my sons room if I dare.

Bebereader, I’m busted! I saw that video on You Tube and, as usually happens, was moved to post immediately. That audience looked like they were turned into “Archu-zombies” while David just did his thing, which is to sing every song, every time, like it’s the finale on American idol.
As for your fine article, I have to agree with you. I am, as a rule, anti-snippet. The snippets from his first CD freaked me out (just a litle), and when I go back back to listen to them now, I laugh at how misleading they were as to the true quality of the songs, and David’s performance of them. “My Hands” and “Touch My Hand”, two of the best songs from that or any CD, were examples of snippets that were rendered moot by the full version of the songs.
The snippets from this CD, IMO, are more “grabbing”, and make me and everyone else yearn for the full song. My 2 favorites are TSOD and WIA. This CD will be fantastic, and his live performances, in concert halls, will re-write music history.

Bliss#16 I’ve been enjoying your comments on youtube for the longest time, even before I met you online. I agree with you about “My Hands”. I didn’t care for it in snippet form either but it grew to be my second favorite track on the first cd, “Barriers”, being the first.
Okay, since you mentioned favorites on TOSOD, I choose “STR” and “SBL”. But that, of course, is subject to change.

#17…Bebe…I didn’t find any chocolate in my sons room but I did find 2 missing forks, my favorite glass and a lot of empty candy wrappers.
I did find some chocolate chips in the freezer tho….Nice but not as good as the real thing. Kind of like the snippets…good but better with the cookies attached. Can’t wait for the whole cookie! Oct 5th is only a little over a week and a half…right!

This time around I am enjoying the snippets. I didn’t listen to any for the first two CD’s because I wanted to have something very special to look forward to. The difference this time is that David himself has been leaking songs like Niagara Falls, over the last 3 months. Avoiding new material would have cut into my David time immensely. Not.gonna.happen.

Can someone from Utah please give me a time line for all these radio station videos? I can’t get it straight in my mind in what order they happened! Frankly I am a bit woozy from the close ups, too. David is getting more coy in his responses to the silly questions. Seriously, fans do not care to ask him those girlfriend questions, move on ? Talk about what he plans for his future musically and watch him light up. 🙂 Anyone with common sense can see he is in no position for a relationship. He is smart to keep the focus on his career now.

Ab, the radio station mini concerts began with 107.9, then 97.1 on Monday. Then 98.7 on Tuesday.
It was great to see David spending time here with his family. His sister hollering that his luggage had arrived. His brother playing guitar. Sightings of Lupe and Jeff. I can’t think who else in the music business would be bringing his family along to their gigs. LOL

Just when I thought my feet were back on the ground, there is that “Elevator” video from yesterday. Now I am melting again.
The music came up too quickly and David was still sitting at the keyboard. It was obvious he wanted to be standing and moving. I wondered how long it would take for him to extricate himself from the stationary mike.
Oh, and wasn’t that the best rendition of “Chopsticks” ever? It was delivered with such glee!!

I do know there is a definite “energy” in these song snippets, that wasn’t there in Davids first cd, (even though I came to love every song on that album.) I mean, it was impeccably done, with Davids beautiful voice, but it was the live shows that infused that “David energy” into those songs…My Hands, Barriers, Touch my Hand, love them all and always will..
This sophomore cd,listening to these snippets…I am definitely feeling the energy right off the bat. I feel like a jockey sitting on a champion horse,he’s restless,nudging the gate, ready to go…!and I am tightening my grip,preparing myself… hanging on for the ride he will provide. October 5th, that gate will open, and our ‘Secretariat’ will show us all he’s got. I can’t wait.

I remember Simon saying “I wish I was you” to David. It was as though he was thinking out loud and was said around the time he said your young, your good looking and you have a good voice. Hollywood week on another day.(I think) I always thought it was interesting that the film never showed up. I remember it well, just like Kelly and as you heard some of the audience agreed. I so wished it was kept on film but since it slipped out and was so uncharacteristic of Simon,it never made it off the cutting room floor. Back to lurking. I love this site. It’s pouring rain in Wichita & David is sick! He has the flu according to some tweets, but he sounded great in the sound check. He rehearsed “Falling Stars”, another awesomeage sounding song!
And no M&G because he does not feel well enough. 😦
David needs our good thoughts & prayers. He has another gig tomorrow in PA & after that he’s in Ohio. He will have almost no rest for the next several days, unless he is sick enough to cancel.
We know the show will go on, but please pray for David and/or send him good vibes & good wishes for a great show. He has lots of supportive fans in the audience which should make him feel better. 🙂

Djafan, I’m hoping the tweets about David’s Flu & how sick he is, are greatly exagerated. Looks like a few fans were able to meet with him according to a tweet. If true, perhaps he’s feeling much better. 🙂
We shall soon see. Hoping to have videos of his performace tonight which will be very telling. Not from his singing which is always sublime, but from his eyes, movements & banter. 😉

I have been waiting to hear Falling Stars in full and now that I have, I can’t pull myself away from the Twitvid. I can’t believe how beautiful of a song this is. Listening to the songs with the backing of a band is like feast to my ears. I could snack on snippets and acoustic performances but having a band accompany The Voice makes these performances so great. My life is going to once again be put on a stand still, spending my time watching David’s concert videos. Part of me doesn’t want to go back to last year when I have to stay up all night waiting for YT videos, but part of me is longing to hear David sing his heart out amid the audience screaming his name. When he comes to my hometown, I will be first in line, that’s for sure.

*yawn* Is it still morning? I was up way too late last night, watching “Falling Stars”. I think this song gives David an edge and it sounds so radio worthy to me. I can’t get enough of it.
Did anyone else notice the change in David’s stage presence? More self-assured doesn’t fully express what I mean. Lately, I notice that he has the audience in the palm of his hand. The change is so subtle and yet so profound that only a well-seasoned fan who has been there since Day 1 would notice. Agree?

Love all the new snippets but I am so locked into the Falling Stars vortex today I can’t break away for long. I have lost track of how many times I have watched the HD version. The song is so haunting and lovely and his voice so what I can not describe in words but even the time he goes pitchy on one “falling stars” it is so raw and pure it works. Near the end he infuses a quaver in his voice that is no accident but intentional and pure genius.
He is something else and it is powerful.

At first you’d think that maybe it was because he was sick, but after listening to it several times, I no longer see it as a flaw in his singing. It actually made him so effective in relating the painful message of the song. It’s just like when Michael Jackson’s voice cracked at the last part of the song She’s Out Of My Life. Yes, it is powerful. Sheer, raw genius.

FALLING STARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This more than any of the new songs had totally taken me in. This one is a total stand out. It absolutely SHOULD be a hit. Everything about it just grabs you right from the beginning and you can’t stop being under it’s spell. It’s so perfect for David’s voice. If he sang this one on TV gosh I just think there’d be no stopping it. Just in a class by itself. Sorry for gushing on but I can tell our fate is sealed now. #123 Djafan, They were not giving the artist a chance to sing this to the audience. David is not someone who is usually ignored by the audience (even those new to David) like he was. We always respect people who open for David but this was quite a gaggle of noise while he sang a most heartfelt of songs. That is why he appreciates his own concerts.

I was at the concert last night. (So great, despite having heard only four DA songs — we heard Falling Stars live for the first time!!) Some number of the crowd was there to party, I think. However, a lot of DA fans were there and before the concert when I spoke to the young girls around me, some said they were there for David too (or for David and others.) The mosh pit you see in vids is a regular venue thing — the little girls told us that it would be bad, and it was. Pushing all night long, with people being pulled out during the whole concert from start to finish. I guess that’s just the way they do things.
I wanted them to be quiet during Falling Stars. We had moved from the mosh pit to the stands and there were a couple of girls talking loudly behind us. (Lots of beer being consumed by people who didn’t look beer-age.) We all couldn’t wait to get home to hear the song again on video.

I know what you mean that David still sounds like himself because we’re so attuned to his voice that we will recognize it even in our sleep. 🙂 However, I noticed in this album that he has changed his singing style somewhat, showing strong influences from Jason Mraz, John Mayer and Train, compared to his two previous albums. This just shows how incredibly gifted he is that he can switch his sound within the expansive pop genre, and still be so distinctively David.

Helloooo! At LAST! I’ve been trying to come in here for the last hour! Seems there was a problem with WordPress. So frustrating!
Today was my only daughter’s birthday, so I spent most of the day with her. We had such a good time…however as much as I loved the day, I could not help but think about David, hoping he was feeling better today. But Oh My Heck! He sure didn’t look sick to me on the videos from last night’s performance! He was absolutely fantastic. I have to agree with SB that the audience sounded a bit rowdy & loud during “Falling Stars”, but this is the down-side of having to share a stage & audience with other performers. David knows this, but he still gives 110% even if there are 10, 50, or 10,000 people there for him only. He is the consummate performer, and for the life of me…I still & will never get over how David transforms on stage. Off stage he’s just David, sweet, lovable, honest (maybe too much so). Then on stage he becomes a confident, extremely handsome, very sensual & powerful vocalist…The Voice! He still confuses me but I have a feeling I’m not the only one, so it’s all good. Though he shares so much of himself, sometimes more than he should & more than we are entitled to, he is still an enigma. 🙂

I know it’s late here in the EST Zone, but it what I just read true? That TOSOD will be available on AOL MUSIC for free?
Tell me it’s NOT true!? I just don’t understand! Isn’t it enough IMO, that we have snippets of all the songs already? WHY would all the songs be available BEFORE the official release of David’s album? If I didn’t know better, that David has so many people in his employ who depend on David to have a successful selling album, I almost think David WANTS to GIVE his album away!
That is, if he has any say in the way it’s being promoted! All these radio promos he’s done, I believe are not paid performances. He is doing these gigs to promote his album. But what good are all these promos if his album is out there in it’s entirety for free?
If it’s true, can somebody explain to me the logic in this & how David will benefit from it?
This is totally nuts! And it’s making me nuts too. Lord help me!

It all sure does seem crazy, I don’t understand the logic. But seems that some artist are doing this and it seems to be having the opposite effect. Sara Baralleis released her entire album to some player like AOL, don’t remember who, a couple of weeks before it was available and it debuted at number one. Theory is that people will hear and like and buy.
But truth be told I’m totally confused and yes Lord help us!

Seems to me David is introducing his album by explaining the meaning behind them & how they came about, then SINGING many of the new songs at the promos. Is he OK with AOL streaming the album before the release? I know it’s it’s not actually “leaking”, but it can be downloaded, no? My question is, why is David having to work his heart out at these promos if they are “giving” it away? And please, don’t tell me he’s “paying his dues”, I’ve heard it too many times. He’s been there, done that. IMO!

The songs have leaked, saw the tweets. Not suppose to be able to download from AOL, but they’re on youtube now so it doesn’t matter if you can’t. I do not understand how any of this works. I figure the people that are thieves were never going to buy it anyway, his fans with ODD will be buying multiple copies, the honest new listeners will buy regardless of leaks. That’s all I can come up with.

SF, totally feeling the same frustration you have. I don’t understand it either. It sounds like David doesn’t really like the leaks either (I’m kinda reading between the lines in his tweet to allison). Anyway, I want him to get compensated for all his hard work and I don’t want people to enable the thieves by putting David’s songs our there on the Internet so they can steal his work at their leisure. Some people are so shameless sometimes that they even provide links to download the songs. I don’t understand the complete disrespect for an artist’s work like it’s no big deal. I do want people to be exposed to his music but I wish there is a mechanism where music makers can put out a program that would make it very difficult to download music illegally. I would even go as far as them being able to put a bug so it would destroy the thieves’ computers. Maybe that’s too extreme but what do you do?

Love this song – it sounds very now (and definitely not cheesy) but with his magnificent voice (even the ‘raw’ rough spots – he’ll work it out) & his emotionally driven performance (that only he can do) of it. Didn’t need the lyrics to feel this one. Kind of like Contigo. Eventually went to sleep with this last night, as well. Oh well who needs sleep anyway…………..

SF – re AOL streaming the whole album — It’s been part of the increasingly aggressive promo environment for music. They have done this since 2002. The labels have wisened up, embracing the internet to their advantage. Given the exponential rate the world is becoming flat and their dismal failure in arresting file sharing, I am more inclined to agree now, than say 5 years ago. How does it help? I remember reading from Billboard some years before that the questions most retailers and distributors ask from labels is – how do we expose artists and content to as early as possible to facilitate commerce?
It is meant to pump-up pre-orders and stimulate interest in the airwaves. And the practice has proven to work or I should say it has not dented the sales of major artists like Madonna, Cristina, Snoop Dogg, Dru, Craig David or former up-coming artist in the likes of Sarah Barreilles, Aimee Mann or Sigur Ross. So perhaps it will work for David this time 🙂
Esp with this album – it is such a kick @#%$&*&^% body of work. Should attract even non-fans. David should be proud.

The world is a messy place. I am amazed at David’s depth of comprehension and seeming maturity with the issues he is being confronted with. This album is saying speaking to us; a little something different probably for each one of us. The first album was released at a very difficult time in my own life and I am not exaggerating how I depended on it to get me through each and every day. And now entering another phase in my own life, he has produced another lifeline for me (it seems so personal like “here you go, this is for you, to help you get through it”. Oh I can’t even explain it very well. Maybe some of you know what I mean.
So proud of David. He is one of the heroes in my life and his light in this world gives me hope for this next generation. Skipping off my soapbox, ha ha, to go listen to last night’s heartstopping melodies.

There’s something very satisfying about fans watching videos together. We were all so mesmerized with “Fallen Stars” last night. SF#154 Makes no sense to me either but cds are routinely streamlined now, to introduce the public to new music. I have no problem with that. Well the truth is that I’m getting used to it. What I do have a problem with is the music pirating. Things are so out of hand now with leakages that it’s getting harder and harder to monitor. Soon artists will only rely on ticket sales to make a profit. By the way, I read somewhere that Britney Spears’ last eight cds were illegally leaked online. It didn’t harm her career but she’s an established artist. Obviously, it affects new artists more.
I don’t know much but one thing is for certain; when David’s face appears on AOL’s Welcome Screen on Monday morning, hearts are going to go a-flutter, and that goes for fans and soon-to-be fans.

So am I the only weird fan not listening to the full songs until 10/5 or David performs them? Snippets seem ok since he’s giving them to us with explanations of how the songs came about, but not the full songs. It seems like cheating to me somehow. But I was like this with the first CD too. I didn’t want to spoil the official moment. Hurry up 10/5–it’s hard to wait! Why is he only on the East coast and mid-west doing performances? Can he come to the West coast, please? I have listened to all af the songs many times and cannot wait to plunk down whatever it costs to have the CD in my gruby little hands on Oct 5.
Illegal downloading is a fact of modern life. I’m sure Lady Gaga and all the rest of todays “artists” are victimized to some extent by this. David has the most loyal and personlized fans of any recording artist, and they will not undermine his career by bypassing the purchase of his CD.
Last night I went to sleep positive that TOSOD was my favorite song on the CD. As of this writing, WIA and FS are vying for the top spot. Of course, by the time the day is over, 4 other songs might take their place. This CD is a true embarrassment of riches. Every song is unique and fantastic, and I’m not saying that just because I’m David’s #1 older guy fan.

#178 For me not listening to his full songs before 10/5 is more about if I’ve waited this long I’ll wait until the release date and get all the excitement like unwrapping a long-awaited present. I, of course, will be buying several CD’s and going to as many concerts as possible so that’s not it. It’s kind of like the way David’s face looked when he had the headphones on and was listening to Crush play for the first time on the radio on Z100. That’s the feeling I’m looking forward to on 10/5. Sorry, maybe it’s just silly of me.

Only one. And I was totally blown away. My husband looked at me with a worried face and said “I’ve never seen you act this way before! Bliss, For me, it has nothing to do with buying multiple copies of the cd anyway. It’s that those tracks were posted on youtube illegally and I didn’t want to give the poster the time of day by giving their youtube account a hit. I caved and listened to one. Well maybe two by now. LOL

The sooner that you listen to them the sooner you will be able to tell him how much you are enjoying them and he has been anxious for you to hear them as he has said. Put your worries behind you and join in the celebration of these beautiful songs…with their messages. I don’t believe that he enjoyed the summer without his concerts anymore than we did so celebrate his latest fabulous songs with him now. Tomorrow’s concert is going to be awesome! David will be singing nine songs, six from TOSOD, three he hasn’t sung before. This is according to tweets from Jenny @ FOD who is there along with a large number of fans who have traveled from all over to see David at the New Albany OH Classic. This event is not just another radio promo. David will have a long set from about noon to 1:00 EST. This is THE one I would have loved to go to as it is within driving distance, but I have too much going on in the home front. I hope all who are there have a great time!
The videos of David from last night show what a true professional David is. It was obvious he was or had been sick, perhaps with a virus. He looked tired, his eyes just a tad sunken as if he was dehydrated. BUT my opinion stems from the way he looked, not in any way, shape or form by his performance, which was fantastic as all David’s performances are. I don’t know how he does it. How he just keeps going, no matter what.
David must be feeling MUCH better though! His latest tweet? “chips & salsa”. 😆 Can’t help but love everything about him.

Please take care of David. Watch over him, protect & keep him safe from harm.

Give David the courage to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give.
Surround David with people who will love and support David unconditionally as his Archangels do.
Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being.
Give him rest when he’s weary and stamina to sustain his hectic pace.
Give him assurance when he feels doubt and give him joy when he feels sad.
Keep him always in your protective arms during this time on his journey.
And please Lord, give us and his new management the wisdom to do right by David always.
Help us and his new management in the way we support David so that it’s in his best interests.
May he continue to encounter goodwill and happiness wherever his journey takes him.
Most of all, keep David and and his voice healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny.

I’ve listened to all of TOSOD and I am blown away by this young musical genius. My granddaughter was right Good Place had me in tears, so did My Kind of Perfect. I could go on and on and on…they’re all pure love!!!!

Bliss: I said that my husband is a fan but doesn’t have ODD. Those were my words, not his. Lately I’m beginning to question it. How do you know if someone has ODD aside from the obvious? Can it be manifested differently in different people?
He doesn’t go online searching for news about David. He doesn’t have to. I find it and tell him every day.
He doesn’t play David’s music constantly. He doesn’t have to. He hears it when I play it.
He doesn’t constantly talk about David but I guess…well I guess it’s because I’m always doing that so he doesn’t have to.
Last fall, I bought two M&G tickets for Atlantic City. I didn’t think he really wanted to go so I told him that I’d give his VIP ticket to another fan so they could have the chance to meet David. He said not to give his ticket away! I gave him two chances to get out of it and both times he forbid me to give away his ticket. My husband has been teaching music for over 30 years. When he met David at the VIP, he shook his hand, and with a big smile, said “I teach music. I wish I had 100 students like you!”
My husband accompanied me to the Bookends booksigning even though he had a nasty sinus infection at the time. He told David that his music is awesome and made small talk, asked how his hand was holding up, signing so many books.
He knows there’s a new cd on the way and asked me to let him know when he could hear the new music.
You tell me, Bliss. Does that constitute ODD?

Bebereader, your hubby sounds like a great guy. I hope to meet him. As for his ODD, it’s not something you “have”,it’s something that “has you”. Based on what you’ve shared about him, he is, in fact, one of the lucky ones. You are also fortunate to have a mate that is “on board” so you don’t have to explain why a “woman of a certain age” in so entralled with a 19 year old adonis who sings like nobody has ever sung.
David’s is a scary looking guy for most straight men. I’m glad I’m old enough to have worked out that nonsense so I can thoroughly and completely love and appreciate David without reservation. It’s sounds like your husband is well on his way to doing the same thing because he “knows” it’s so worth it. I hope he has a Happy Birthday today.
