September 10, 2010 Show
Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) one-hour, commercial-free telecast will air on Friday, September 10, 2010 at 8PM EST & PST / 7PM CT on ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, Discovery Health, E!, G4, HBO, HBO Latino, MLB Network, Showtime, The Style Network and TV One and over 30 online streaming partners like AOL, Yahoo! and YouTube.
The SU2C broadcast is dedicated to the 12 million U.S. cancer survivors illustrating how groundbreaking research can change the tide in the fight against the disease. Updates will be provided on the work of the five Stand Up To Cancer Dream Teams, and Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN’s Chief Medical Correspondent, will also report on other new medical developments.
Stand Up To Cancer raises funds to hasten the pace of groundbreaking translational research that can get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives. Donations can be made via telephone during the show, anytime online at http://www.su2c.org or Text STAND to 40202 to give $10 now. 100% of the funds received from the public go to research.
Stand Up To Cancer has raised more than $100 million for cancer research since 2008. Thank you for your support and please join us on September 10th, 2010 with a spectacular line-up of talent – many who will be on hand in the celebrity phone bank.
David will be there!!!
Here’s a message from Pecan Pie.
Hi Everyone,
Just a reminder to tune into the SU2C show Friday 8 ET/ 5 PT. Viewers around the world who do not have access to any of the TV networks can watch on any of the live streaming links. I’m told the streaming show will extend 30 minutes beyond the televised portion which is 90 minutes.
I want the team to know in advance that we will be announced as co-winners with the Survivor show whose network matched the individual donations for a total close to $30K. Ethan Zohn is an amazing example of what it means to be a true Survivor and what this Stand Up2 Cancer is all about. Stand Up2 Cancer is just one of many important causes he has championed all while undergoing his own battle against lymphoma. Please be sure to congratulate him or donate to the team on the site. If you call in an hour before the show begins, you may even have a chance to speak to a celebrity.
I have learned my lesson that plans for network TV will change up until the very last minute so I do not want to raise any false hopes. All I can say is, if things do go according to plan, your only regret would be missing this show! You’ve been warned people!
To those of my homies who will be observing the holiday, L’Shana Tova, to a good and sweet new year!Pecan Pie
Total with the help of
Dave Felice and Mike Krompass!
Thank you David’s go getter fans!!!

I posted this just before this latest article was put up, so I took the liberty of bringing it over. SU2C is yet another example of how David is involved with humanity, and does whatever he can to uplift us all.
Skydancer1x, I agree with you. David’s presence transcends the geographic location he is in, and he is always “just David” whether he’s in Central Park, South Carolina, Honduras, or Malaysia. David relates to everyone the same. Everyone gets the same David Archuleta treatment of total respect, warmth and validation.
One of my favorite quotes is “You can measure the quality of a person by how they treat other people who can do absolutely nothing to benefit them”. Nobody personifies that concept better than David.

Betsy, when your son learns how to drive a “stick”, can he give me a few pointers? I learned on an Automatic when I was a kid, and have never been able to get the knack of a stick shift since. Pretty lame stuff, I admit.
BTW, I hereby call upon David’s army of go-getter fans to pressure Jive to release the full version of TOSOD. I have a feeling it is David’s best song ever, and his voice has a certain “je ne sais quois” to it. He seems to have more command of the song or something. What do you think? Am I nuts?

I lived an exciting youth! I learned how do drive a stick in about 10 min I was 16 and my friend took me to a very busy street with many stop lights. It was do or die!! To this day I still drive a stick. And for winter driving , I’d be scared to drive anything else!

You heard that, too? David said TOSOD was the first song written for the album and although we only heard a snippet, it’s getting rave reviews all over the web!

He has mastered the stick and is driving backwards around the pool. Yes, the pool. I cannot look. Says he prefers it to the automatic.
Bliss – I hear that too. TOSOD sounds almost masterpiece-ish, to me. He’s got a Paul McCartney vibe goin’ on there. But it’s pure David. If that makes sense.

David Archuleta The Other Side Of Down Album – October 5 Release – While his debut single was released not long ago, David Archuleta has just announced that he is currently putting the finishing touches on his upcoming album The Other Side Of The Down. Archuleta also unveiled the album cover, few weeks ago via his website.
A sober enough cover for David Archuleta, the new little prince of Pop music. The young singer debuted his new song “Things Are Gonna Get Better” during Jerry Lewis Telethon few days ago, the performance was well received.

Djafan, that article refers to David as “the new little prince of Pop music”. I find that characterization, although I’m sure meant to be a compliment, a little condescending. David is, in fact, the new “King” of Pop and any other genre of music he sinks his perfect teeth into. The only thing “little” about David is the time he spends not doing good things for other people or creating the best music anyone’s heard in 30 years.
I just gave another listen to TOSOD. Thee’s something going on there that I can’t put into words, but the chills up and down my spine when I hear it speaks volumes.

I hear what you hear, had a restless night, could not get TOSOD out of my head, the sound of his voice, the play with his vocals just mesmerized me. Abrra, growing up in the city, everyone’s father had Automatic, including mine. Alas, there were no stick shifts to learn from. Over the years, I’ve gotten stuck in the snow many times, when a stick shift would have gotten me out. In the immortal words of David Archuleta “I’m weird, I’m a goofball”, and when it comes to driving a stick I’m downright ‘issued'”.

I have a little story on this early Saturday morning.
I was spending time with my grandson yesterday while his parents were away. When they arrived home he was just falling asleep. The little guy is coming down with a cold and felt rather badly so I took my ipod from my pocket and played some songs for him. His Dad went into his room to say good night and quietly asked him what he had been doing? So the little 22 month old with teddy bear in arms said most distinctly, “David was singing to me”. He had been crying so I played ‘Angels’for him crib side. I won’t really talk about the pride I felt all the way around, but there was a lot of it.

I feel an immedaite need to pet his hair and hug him until he pulls away cuz it got to be too long of a hug LOL. I shall see this mysterious creature in two weeks. If I could only tell him how sweet he is, and make him understand it, that’d be lovely. He is now my example of the goodness of the human spirit. I sent him a card once with a pic of my sons and said that I hope they grow up to be even 1/4 of the person that he is. I wished him love and healthy children. I believe we will see him hold his babies in a video blog. I can’t wait.

Haven’t posted here in a LONG time but here is my view from last night… brought over from SD…(hi to all I’ve met at the concerts!!)
Well, I had the good fortune to be at the event last night as well and will add my congratulations to those who put forth the effort to raise the money that they did. It was an amazing array of celebrities from all walks of life. I was a “seat filler” and was able to volunteer to be one of the people writing on the wall behind the phone banks during the show so I was on the stage behind Ryan Seacrest, Randy Jackson, Jay Leno, etc. for a few times throughout the show. I saw David earlier in the day just outside wardrobe and was about 10 feet away from him and his aunt but couldn’t “break ranks” to go over and say hi. It was chaotic backstage to say the least! Saw him on the phone banks during the half hour internet segment at the end of the show but was on the other side of the room. He looked great, as usual. It was a sobering event with all of the people in the audience but an uplifting one hearing of the advances. It was also a very fun event and being on the stage (only one writing on the wall at about minute 27) was a blast!!

In memory of all the suffering and fallen on that horrible day, 9/11, here is David at 10 singing at a fire station in New York.
This from the comments on the youtube…
from David’s Journal dated Sept 11, 2002: We started the day by going on the subway for our first time down to Ground Zero. There were already a lot of people there and we couldn’t get too close. WE went over to St. Peter’s Church where they had a bunch of places for people to sign and write their thoughts about 9/11. Then I sang in front of the church right after the moment of silence at 8:46am. Then we left to go to the Empire State Building and t hen went back to the hotel so we could be ready to go sing at the fire station. We went over there and there were reporters and camera people all over, so the captain closed the door and made everyone listen to me sing.
Everyone was very nice and some people were crying and they gave me a shirt and some souvenirs from the fire station. I sang God Bless America and I will Always Love You. This was the most special thing I did the whole time I was in California and New York…. David Archuleta Sept. 11, 2002

#55 top photo of David. It needs a funny caption. What do you think would go with it?
An actor can be very talented but if the camera doen’t love his face then he won’t be a star. When the camera loves an actor’s face it means that the viewers can look at that face over and over and never get tired of looking at it. They want more. Think of Meg Ryan, Julia Roberts, Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp etc. They may not have the most gorgeous faces on the planet but they are certainly interesting to look at. David’s face is not only gorgeous but he has so many different looks. The camera loves him and because of that he could easily keep an audience captivated on the big screen.

I remember being woken up by a telephone call from my daughter and her telling me to turn on the TV. I was living in California. I was so shocked at the sight of the World Trade Center on fire. I had been there a couple of times as a tourist. Then when the second plane crashed into the second building, it was like a nightmare that I couldn’t wake up from. I will never forget what happened. It is still fresh in my mind. God bless those that lost loved ones on this nineth anniverary. I am so proud of David for singing to the firemen at that time. He just wanted to bring some sunshine into their lives even if it was only for a few minutes. David is love!

There was one incredible singer among others, who gave freely a piece of his heart following 9/11 and that was David.
It was not a one day disaster but the start of something immense in a disasterous way.
Until the troops of all of our countries come home from the retaliation from that day, we will have difficulty with any kind of closure as the months and the years go by.
Until then, we will seek out goodness and the progression towards happiness in all of the right places.

As a New Yorker, 9/11 will always be etched in my mind with a hurt that never goes away. It’s funny what you remember; I was in a Dunkin’ Donuts with my friend, buying birthday treats for her daughter’s 5th-grade class when we heard the news. The grief that followed in the weeks ahead in NYC was halting. There was no escaping it; it was everywhere you turned including the yellow ribbons tied around several trees down my street. The entire New York office of a reputable advertising agency was wiped out and two of the employees lived on my block. My husband had three students whose fathers were firemen and were lost in the line of duty.
It’s no surprise that that David was asked to sing “I Will Always Love You” to the firemen on the one-year anniversary of 9/11. Even at eleven years old, his voice was a soothing balm.
SB#69 Your ‘little story’ is not so little. It conveys a lot of meaning! Thanks for sharing!
Mike#75 And thank YOU for the recap!
My Mother-in-law called this morning to tell me that she “saw David on TV last night” and that she also saw him a few nights before on the MDA Telethon! I’m sure others are realizing that David is around when there’s a worthy cause, and it’s not to promote his current music.

I sang God Bless America and I will Always Love You. This was the most special thing I did the whole time I was in California and New York…” David Archuleta Sept. 11, 2002.
I remember hearing the news while I was driving in my car and actually thinking that I if I turned the car around and went back to bed, I would wake up and it would all have been a dream.
Speaking of waking up, I have to be on the road at 6:30am “in the morning” to make the drive to Memphis and the DeltaFair with LuvieD! GAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!! To be continued…. 😆

Somebody should tell David that he’s only allowed to be the best singer in the world. He’s not allowed to be the best singer AND the best looking, which from the looks of these pics, appears to be the case. I guess if it only happens every 50 years or so, it’s OK. If ever the expression “he’s got it all going on” applied, it’s with David. He is one beautiful guy, inside and out. That’s for sure.

Enjoying everyone’s comments here today, along with the wonderful videos and photos of this truly remarkable young man who exemplifies the highest ideals of the human spirit. It was especially heartwarming to see David thanking Pastel for the success of the Crush Kids Cancer campaign.
A special thank you to Abrra, for your moving tribute to 9/11. Between those riveting pictures and David’s haunting vocals, I am fighting back the tears. God bless all the families who lost loved ones on that fateful day, along with those who continue to suffer the after-effects.

Here’s Jennette McCurdy’s interview. You can see David on the left being interviewed again. Hope that interview surfaces, too.

I’m thinking that last white shirt pic on the post (the one right under ”You may hear the voice”) deserves a background cropping 🙂
