The First Time Ever I Saw His Face
Posted by emilyluvsarchie on Monday, June 28, 2010
I’m on the bus..heading home from school…and I get a text from my mother. All it says is “It’s here!” There is no way in heaven’s name that THE BOOK, DAVID’S BOOK, is at my house. I then begin receiving picture messages from my sister and father taunting me. Pictures of the book…pictures of them touching MY BOOK! Yes. Other people touching my book. People who are not me. Touching my newest, most prized possession, befoooooore me! And let the flailing begin. But, you see, I’m on a school bus. With a large number of my fellow classmates…a freak attack such as this one might be some type of humiliation to most teens… and might possibly be alarming to others. Two and a half years ago it would’ve been… but now, as long as, “oh it’s just that blonde girl freaking out over that singer she loves,” its all good. I’m known for it now…
So after about the longest thirty minute bus ride of my life, I finally get home ..I burst through the door…And there it sits, sooo beautiful…soo unreal. Now seriously people you all know that feeling, we all felt it the first time we saw it. Now, I’ve never been a mother seeing as I’m only 15, but my mom (also an avid David fan) is obviously a mother, and I’m pretty sure her eyes were glimmering a bit more than they did the first time she saw me (her first born) but hey it’s all good..It’s David Archuleta for Pete’s sake! She held it out to me, like that monkey guy did with Simba on top of that rock in the Lion King movie and says “There’s pictuuuuuuures!”…So being the impatient picture loving me that I am, I grabbed up that baby and started flipping through the pages to find these pictures. The first one I saw was of an adorable little baby Davey, and I went through them one by one “awwwwwing” at every single picture…until I see one that’s very familiar..I mean very, very familiar…how familiar you may ask? Well ,this picture was soo familiar I knew exactly when and where it was from…It was from the very first time a certain “blonde girl” saw a certain “singer she loves” and boooooooy did it bring back the memories…

“Mom, come here! You’ve got to see this!”….” And that moment right there was “The Beginning”…for me at least. Following David extensively everyday, through AI Season 7, he totally ruined my whole laid back, sweet, little Emily reputation. I constantly was either freaking out over the newest “sweetest most adorable most amazing thing ever” David had done or in someone’s face for “not getting him.” My friends quickly began to realize they were doomed, when I started referring to them as “flesh friends” due to my newly found “e-family” of David fans. They learned it was either sink or swim with me now. You either loved “my man” or you didn’t, and the second of the two would have to be changing.

Photo by Emily. When it first appeared I loved it so much I played around a bit with the design on his shirt and the background. Angelica
I had always been the type of person who ALWAYs just agreed with everyone. Speaking my mind just wasn’t something I ever did..EVER. But that quickly changed. I would never ever ever let anyone dis my Mr. Archuleta. I mean who did they think they were? Pshh, just because they’re my best friend, or teacher, or…principal doesn’t mean I can’t yell at them a little if I disagree! Fast forward toward the end of the AI season. First of all, I had never had the slightest interest in the American Idol Tour that came to my town yearly….that was until now. I remember screaming my head off in the middle of my homeroom when my mom texted me and told me we had tickets to see David…for real…singing….live…in the flesh…Mr. David James Archuleta…On stage…in the same room as me…breathing the same air as me. It was unreal.
OMGOSHH TOUR! David Archuleta for real LIVE. What?!?! The thought just killed me. My first concert was Columbus, Ohio. We booked our hotel way early, I spent every last second on fan chats, and that day coming closer and closer was all I talked, texted or thought about. Ya’ll know the drill…drive for hours and hours…stay the night…get to the venue around eight in the morning and camp out the entire day. Well, I had heard horror stories from other fans of the heat, the exhaustion, the dehydration, and the starvation, so we came… my entire family…all five of us “completely prepared”… or so we thought. We had no idea of the “hecticness” of that first AMAZING moment. When you start hearing screams of, “There’s a bus! Is that the bus?! Oh my gosh, it’s THE BUS!!” Nerves completely take over. I became a shaky mess, awkwardly trying to rip my camera from its case, checking the battery life for the tenth and last time. Then, more screams erupt..And here come the idols! I realized how excited I got to see every single one of them as they walk up. Even the ones I particularly disliked during the season got me excited. But everyone knows the only thing that’s going on in my little head is “Oh My Gosh, I wonder where David is?! I hope he comes out! I hope he’s not on vocal rest! I wonder what he’s wearing?! Aw I wonder if he’s still in the bus?!” Oh look there’s Jason! He’s David friend! Hi Jason (((HUGS))) Eww, your dreads are scratchy! (it still beats me how he can stand those touching his face) and one by one the idols all come out, signing, smiling, laughing with fans, rushing somewhat, and I am getting more and more nervous.
Then, all of a sudden I hear screams…but not just any screams…these screams were special. These screams were screeching a name…A very familiar name. And I think we all know what that name was. It was possibly the most terrifying noise I’ve ever heard. Everything started moving a hundred miles an hour and before I knew it THIS….
Wondering which “DAVID DAVID DAVID” it was, my family stood there staring at the top of the stairs the idols were coming up…Then, dark dark slightly spiked hair. That beautiful blackish perfect hair. That wonderfully amazing hair popped up from the stairs, and my body went numb. It…was…david…archuleta…THE David Archuleta. David. James. Archuleta. The one, the only, the man, the legend, THE DAVID!! My David! Our David. He was happily boppin up the stairs with a black sharpie in his left hand and a water bottle in his right. He waved with the sharpie occupied hand, and said “HEYY” (And yes, I know you can all hear his “HEEYY!!” in your head right now and you’re sitting there smiling because you know exactly what I’m talking about.) And within the span of 10 seconds, David Archuleta, my hero, is standing just feet away from me.
Which brings me back full circle to a certain book and seeing a certain very familiar picture from the first time a certain blonde girl saw a certain singer she loves…the exact moment in fact when I first saw him in person. I could not believe that pic…my pic, was chosen for his book! 🙂

I’ve been on vacation for the past week and the minute I returned home I ran to the computer to see everything I had missed from “The Voice” and just grinned from ear to ear to read Emily’s story and view some of my very favorite pictures of David. I’m sure that everyone here felt the same thing reading Emily’s account—-pure joy and jubilation. We have all experienced what she is describing and it binds us all together as one “family” in love, admiration, and happiness for David.

I can not believe at just 15 you are able to write with such immediate emotion that you effortlessly pull the reader into your world. We all have that memory of the first time we met David. You took me back to that time and I felt it all again, the joy, the nerves, the anticipation….and then the first time he walks out and he’s RIGHT THERE. I heard him say “Hey!” when you wrote that and of course, I was smiling. 🙂 You have such a wonderful ability to grab the reader by the arm and rush them headlong with you every step of the way. Please keep writing and taking pictures and videos. I knew you made videos but I had no ideas those pictures, some of my most favorite photos of him during the AI tour, were by you. You are an extraordinary young woman and we are so pleased and blessed to be able to showcase your gifts here on The Voice. Thanks for accepting the invite to write for us. Can’t wait for more!

I love it when I see your tag on the bottom of any videos that come out cause I love to read what you have to say about the experience. You really have a natural talent here, girl. Maybe someday you will be a New York Times best selling author too! It is so fun to read your comments here at “The Voice” too. So nice to have a teenager’s ODD amongst us. You are really special. Thanks tons for all you do. By the way, I am jealous that your whole awesome family gets David. Not one of mine does, but thankfully I have all my David friends, online and in real life to keep me happy. And they all do an awesome job of doing that.

DAVID ARCHULETA: NOT THE ‘IDOL,’ BUT DEFINITELY NOT IDLE
“It has been two years since David Archuleta was a runner up on American Idol, losing out to David Cook. But unlike even those who have won American Idol, such as Taylor Hicks and Ruben Studdard, and other runner ups such as Justin Guarini and Bo Bice, Archuleta has found much success since he was on Idol.
We caught up with Archuleta, who told us what life has been like for him since he was on American Idol.”

Thank you for appreciating the slide shows. I get so much pleasure hunting for a song to compliment the main article. I listened to the song titled in this article and decided it was TOO (fill in the blank). “For the First Time” is perfect! I just watched it and the pictures didn’t “fire” how I intended ( I freaked! ) Then I watched it again and it seems to tell the story I intended. So if anyone really liked it, the 2nd time around it hits the right picture on the right word. I am soooo OCD about this stuff. /sigh

I was in a restaurant with my two daughters when the text came through and I listened to the snippet. By the time I finished listening to it my youngset daughter had it on her phone and now my daughter has taken over… I guess it looks like a lot of fun to follow David and his music.
Well, I think that he really likes it even though we just have the snippet. I think that it will be fantastic and wait until he sings it on stage…
Thanks Abrra for the timely pictures to accompany the surprise from David…

Found this on IDF…a review of the full song, from someone who works at a radio station:
“it was a really big deal for me to even listen because while it isn’t “against the law” per se, it isn’t something that really should be talked about i mean no one would get in trouble if Jive or whoever found out I heard it, but they don’t really want people hearing it yet but yeah, I am too excited and I’m talking about it I was able to go into a room and listen. I couldn’t bring anything in my pockets (no phone, etc), no pen/paper (for writing lyrics), just in the room for 1 listen and out right after. there was even a security guy by the door The room is where contest winners or the workers at the station get a chance to preview music early and you have to follow all the rules closely. Not sure if what we got was a radio edit or the full album version but it seemed like the length was a pretty standard song. Not too long, not too short or anything. The preview you heard is basically the song, there really isn’t anything more to describe about it. It is a great dancy summery vibed song, and my program director REALLY enjoyed it. We played “Crush”, but not as much as other stations, and from the likes of it, my program director is really interested in playing the full thing on the air as soon as possible. He is pretty convinced it will be a big hit, and so am I. There is a REALLY awesome bridge in the song that is (at least based off one listen…maybe I am just really excited lol) maybe some of the best vocal work I’ve heard from David. It is simple, yet powerful. I can’t wait to listen to it again!!! I really don’t even remember much of the lyrics..it all went by so fast and I was so excited to be able to hear it. I really don’t have anything else to say about it other than it really is amazing! I would shocked if it wasn’t a hit.”

David’s fans have let him know at every concert that they love Zero Gravity and so perhaps that is what he has done for the summer single. The place goes crazy with a song like ZG and I can guess that this one will make the party scene and keep the house rocking…

..Bringing this over from last thread, since this is where the party has moved to…and I just (IMHO, of course)feel it bears saying regarding last article……As usual just poppin’ in, while trying to do some catching up on DA reads here..and I know the conversation has meandered and have only just scanned some posts but..
Just wanted to say to thefunnygirl who wrote the last thread…(first, I love the title) and 2nd…I always say with David and about his fans…”like attracts like.” If we, in fact, encompass a large group of mostly nice, kind and soft-hearted, sentimental, honest, loving, giving, joyful, funny, creative souls…we’ve been inspired to “come out and play” because of one young guy, with many remarkable gifts to share, who encompasses all that and more.
The more I engage in “fanworld”, the more I am impressed with what I’ve often just taken as PR speak, albeit sincere, from David when he says “I have the BEST fans!”…he really does. and he deserves them.
And “oh HAPPY DA!”….cell phone alerts from David and new music!! oweeeeeee!….DA world is wakin’ up againnnn…love what I could hear…uh uh Oh’s and all. Wish I could hear the lyrics better, but I love the teases still.
Ok…more reading now……………………….

And now back to listening to my new favorite song – Something Bout Love!! I just KNOW this is gonna be a HUGE HIT with lots of radio play!! David’s voice sounds strong and sublime – I love the poppy, catchy tune, even though it’s just a snippet.
Can’t wait for the official release of all the new songs. C’mon Jive, let’s get those concert dates scheduled already! I’m not getting any younger (although David sure makes me feel that way!!) 🙂

Emily, it was such fun reading your account of how your David picture became a part of his book. I had to see it for myself in my very own book. And there it was! In the very center! How awesome to have a published connection to David!
I was reminded of a sweet girl I met in Rexburg. She had taken her book to David for his signature. After he signed the title page, she found she could not leave. She went through the line again and handed him her book to be signed on another page. He looked up and said, “You want me to sign in the middle? Oh, Ok.”

I hereby call for a consitutional amendment banning snippets for any future David Archuleta songs. Did Michelangelo get reviwed for 1/5 of the Sistine Chapel? How about Da Vinci at the 20% point of the Mona Lisa? Was the public given the “dooby dooby dos” as a taste of Sinatra’s “Strangers in the Night”? You get my drift. I remember hearing the snippet of “Touch MY Hand” and not being too thrilled with it. It’s now a modern classic.
Let the songs and David breathe. When it’s time to release a song, release the whole dang thing, and let the public have their say. When was the last time anyone stated or wrote an opinion regarding the quality of a trailer for an upcoming movie?
All of David’s songs will range from great to epic, including this one. Why does the label think we need to be thrown this bone?

I feel if you’re gonna put a “snippet” out there then you’re gonna get “positive” and “negative” reactions. Why? Because it’s just that a “snippet” and you really don’t get the full sense of the song.
ok, so maybe if you don’t love it don’t say anything at all? IDK.
I think it’s ok to be a little negative about it. It’s not the whole song and a “snippet” is very deceiving. You could feel negative about it and then LOVE IT once the whole song is heard.
It’s just my opinion.

Putting out a snippets is like market research. Why would one remain silent with no opinion if they did not like what they heard? It’s counterproductive . I don’t put much stock in what they previewed cuz I couldn’t hear it well. I will wait for the release and surely I will support David by buying it.

I just do not see the point in providing snippets to begin with. A song is a living thing. It has a beginning, a middle, and an end. Many songs take a while to develop. “Touch My Hand” starts very slowly and builds gradually. Snippets are always the beginning of the song, David’s songs usually start out slowly, grab the listener, and finish with an emotional flourish.
If the label can release a snippet on June 28, why not just release the whole song. Is that some kind of modern day marketing tool. David is a proven “seller”. Just release the song, and then the CD. What’s with the tease?
BTW, if you listen to the snippet, David is talking over the very beginning instrumental part, which, if you tune out David’s talking, sounds great and introduces the beat of the song.
Bottom line, it’ll be a great song, but this snippet business is, to quote Simon, “a complete mess”. Who needs it?

Bliss, I agree, why not the whole song if you’re going to release anything. I will take a bone if one is thrown, but I would rather have the whole roast beast.
Abrra, I know snippets are a marketing tool, and it’s a free country. I just don’t see the fairness, Madame juror, 😉 of passing judgement on a case if you don’t have all the facts. I just know there were a lot of people who didn’t like My Hands, or YEDL, from the snippets and ended up eating them words. So my personal policy is to give these 20 second morsels the benefit of the doubt. I rest my case. 😛

My issue is with a poorly executed snippet. As we see in less that 24 hours, many other versions(thank you fandom) of that clip are far better then the telephone audio. If they are going to do it, get it right the first time. I wasn’t going to torture my ears and try to like something I can’t hear. I have now listened to the better audio clips and they serve David’s purpose well. It’s a good song.

Angelica, my guess is that Jive released the snippet to create a pre-release buzz, which they have certainly accomplished. I just don’t think it will create more sales when it comes out as a “song”. David’s army has had their finger on the “buy now” button since a single was announced a while back. When the “general public” gets an earful, they’ll make their decision at that time because they probably haven’t heard the snippet to begin with.
What’s with the lousy quality of the snippet? We know the full song will have great sound quality. And what’s with the 2 week wait. This is 2010. David has patience. We don’t.

I’m with the thumbs down people on the snippet–I think it gives one a very distorted view of the song. With his first album, I was really upset at what I heard in the snippets, wish I had never listened to them. When the real deal came out, much to my happiness, they sounded completely different.
Has any one ever rated music on Rate the Music? These are snippets and they want to to say yea or nay for radio play–now how unfair is that, when these artists have worked their tails off and have hopes and dreams. Then along comes some yahoo like me ( who knows nothing about what sounds good to the young people) and hits the nay button because its not my cup of tea. Therefore I refuse to do these anymore.

Abrra & Bliss, true what you have said…For David going to DC soon and singing with Gladys Knight and Reba, this single should be fantastic and anyone in this world who cannot give him one or help him create one is letting him down terribly. There shouldn’t be anything released that is not of the highest sound quality and if they don’t take him seriously for this snippet then let him go. I keep thinking of the respect in the industry that is given to masterful musicians like David and it makes me cringe at the thought. I have always wanted someone like David Foster who works with Celine, Groban, Bocelli, Charice and others because if for nothing else I trust him. I believe that we worry because he seems to be out there on his own and even if he wants it that way it makes me nervous.
This is 2010 and dear David does have patience, but I just feel that there is danger in too much patience. But, like I said to a dear David fan, he is going to the White House so he is doing something wonderful. If I came here and read that David is now working with DF, the I would set off my own fireworks!

The music business has been exploiting artists since time immemorial. In the ’50s and ’60s, artists with # 1 hits made little or no money from their hits. Florence Ballard, an original Supreme, died broke and on welfare in the ’70s. The list is endless.
Fortunately, times have changed, and David will not meet this fate. However, the tendency to exploit artists for a quick profit has not changed. Who can forget that cinematic masterpiece (not) “From Justin to Kelly” which was released 5 minutes after the end of Season 1 on AI in order to cash in on the popularity of this “new” show.
David is a class act and a person of great integrity and
focus. He will bend but will not break in order to pay his dues in the music biz.. Once he’s finished paying those dues, I assure you we will not be hearing any scratchy snippets of his next million selling hit.

They added a great bio on the A Capitol Fourth site after it being blank for several days. Here’s an excerpt, the rest is on the right sidebar.
Singing on stage at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles was a moment musical prodigy David Archuleta will never forget. But there are a number of pivotal moments that happened in his (even) younger days—including singing for the first season American Idol contestants in Hollywood in 2002, when he was just 11 years old. The David Archuleta story began on Dec. 28, 1990, the day David was born to Jeff and Lupe Archuleta in North Miami, Florida. His father was a jazz musician who was always playing the trumpet around the house. His mother was a singer who performed locally with her three sisters in a group known as the Mayorga Sisters. A longtime fan of American Idol, David had thought about auditioning, but didn’t believe he was “good enough.”

When I saw the picture just now of David by the lake…I said to myself “I bet that is when he was at Lake Powell with his friends when he had only a short time at home before he had to return to LA to rehearse for the Idol show.” Well, what is so funny to me is that I just returned home from Lake Powell on Sunday and was re-reading COS while I was there. I loved knowing that I was there at the place where he said “it is the most beautiful place on earth” or something to that effect. And I have to agree that it is! Anyway, loved seeing that random picture tonight and glad to know that it IS from Lake Powell like I had guessed. Can I say how much I am loving the “snippet” of SBL, it just keeps getting better and better especially this last SBL Promo video #118. But I still can’t stop watching the videos of NVGL and PandA from Rexburg either. I just remember how I felt when he sang both of those songs and how my heart was pounding out of my chest. When the concert was over, I was truly a mess. I was telling Claudia (cb) today that I think I need a shrink. I can’t seem to stay away from all of this for more than 15 minutes at a time!! You know when something exciting happens (and for this time we will say in a good way), we all remember where we were when it happened…I was in a restaurant having dinner with family and rudely replied to the message without hesitation. How could I not? I believe that I turned off the workings of the world for just a minute. I just read that someone else was in a grocery store when the message came through. Was anyone able to hold off and dial up for the snippet when it was more convenient…later?

Wow, what a great interview! Not really new questions, but a lot of respect and time given to answer. How can you not love this guy?! The new single surprised me a bit, but I actually really like it with all it’s high energy, and toe-tappin’ beat, and I really think it will bring in a lot new fans that may have dismissed him in the past as boring or out-dated…and then they will be exposed to all the “wonder and inspiration of David Archuleta”. In many of his interviews about the book, he talks about hoping his experiences can inspire young people his own age, and this single fits in with what is really being listened to among that group…I know, I have 2 teenagers!
I saw a comment on another site that I think expressed it well:
“Hopefully if David finds bona fide mainstream success with this album, then more people will discover the full appeal and talent of David. If he gets a few solid hits he can generate interest and get people to buy his album, where he can fully shine. Hopefully he can become the kind of artist who draws an audience simply because of his NAME instead of as “the guy from AI” or “the guy who sings X song.” If he meets with enough success, he can get TV demanding him instead of the other way around, and therefore have more freedom to branch out as an artist and show the same musical genius in other genres that he can show in pop.”

David Archuleta – His New Single
Pamela Pike,Published June 29, 2010 by:
Something Bout Love
Oh say can you see……..David Archuleta’s single is out! At least 30 seconds of it anyway. Do we all feel better now? Yes-sir-ree!! Even from the poor quality off our cell phones, I love it!
It brings me back to the summers of my teens looking for friends along Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), mostly surfers. That catchy tune you can tap your foot to while driving up to the malt/hamburger shack in Newport
Beach, California. The radio was blasting so everyone could hear you had great taste in music and hopefully notice the new swim outfit you just purchased.
Laughing and flipping your hair back because that new sun hat had smashed it down in the car. Oh yes, the car your driving had to be the Mustang, or if lucky, the Thunderbird you borrowed from Dad or an older brother. (Hopefully they didn’t notice is was gone)
Every song on the radio talked about love and that’s exactly what we hoped would happen, Something Bout Love! Those glorious summer days!
David Archuleta’s new single brings a catchy, mid-tempo, dance, toe tapping radio friendly song into the 21 century, with all the excitement one could possibly hope for in a new summer single. A song you can feel good by and the hope for all young teenagers that love is in the air.
I predict it will be one of those tunes you will remember the lyrics to and years from now will still be able to hum and sing along to. There will be some who feel it’s not deep enough, not mature enough for some, but David’s vocals on this tune will soar like a kite with a long tail! Let’s make the sales for this single do the same.
Move over CRUSH and get used to being #2! Something Bout Love is in the air!
Great job David, looking forward to the rest of your album.

You know you’ve made it to the big time when famed Watergate conspirator G. Gordon Liddy is the interviewer. His questions were invasive, but so was Watergate. Who’s next, Spiro Agnew?? I didn’t like the “gotcha” attitude concerning David;s mission, from this convicted felon.
On the other hand, I loved the interview with Ellen Jaffe. Warm, positive, and above all, respectful. Not a hint of “do you have a girlfriend?” David remains the most charming and engaging person I have ever seen. A total pleasure.
BTW, is anyone else walking around humming SBL like they’ve known it their whole lives? I was getting some weird looks on the subway today. I felt like saying “Hey, what’s your problem? It’s David’s new song. You’ll be doing the same thing in a couple of weeks”.

With all he has done so far, (and only God and he know how much that is), he still totally amazes me.
I go looking for stairs and he offers an escalator. I look for the escalator and he offers me an elevator straight to the top floor.
I look for the elevator and a brilliant balloon ride appears. I look for the balloon and he offers parachutes and airplanes.
Wherever I look he is there before me – higher and making it look so easy. He has his family to ground him. I need an anvil or two.
(Okay… Pixie dust aside, Did he or did he not receive more than the standard issue of “Happy Thoughts”? Or, is he just carrying far less “ballast” than I am!)

I agree with you on G Gordon Liddy and I loved the way David dealt with him. Liddy did have a “gotcha attitude” but David refused to be gotten and seemed innocent of Liddy’s whole sordid scheme.

Emifriend, David’s ability to navigate in rough waters would make Magellan blush. Folks who try to “get him” are in for a rude awakening. By not engaging an adversary’s agenda, David always make them look petty and mean spirited, and David always comes off as the one who took the high road. I so wish I had learned this lesson earlier in life. To David, I will quote from the movie “American Graffiti”; “Where were you in ’62?’

I think the single will interest new fans in purchasing the album…and then “whamo”…no turning back! I just finished listening to “Something ‘Bout Love” in it’s entirety at Snarky’s. It premiered at AOL Radio who received it from JIVE. As long as it’s not downloaded it’s legit.
I must say, if David was an enigma to me before, he’s much more so now. I like the song after listening to the whole song, however….
“Something ‘Bout Love” is not exactly what I thought David meant when he said this album would be all “About him, his thoughts, his personality”. I was waiting for quirky lyrics as in PAA, or message lyrics as in IICOB. David co-wrote SBL, a song about “LOVE”, not love of family or casual friends, or the world in general, but LOVE of someone special and how that kind of love can be full of anguish & pain, but “don’t give up, everything will work out”. (as I am understanding the lyrics). Personal experience or observations? 😉
David, I realize is making the kind of music his generation…teens, & young adults will like. I realized after listening to his song, which will be a huge hit for David, maybe THAT’s what he meant when he said this album would be “about him”. 🙂
I guess it came as a shock that David was not singing to & for me!! 😀 😉
Looking forward to July 4th! David The Voice will be making magic with the NA & Stand By Me!

A little off topic, but was reading the other day about a tour with Kelly Clarkson, Rihanna, and several other female singers (can’t remember who all it was)and how Kelly was backing out of some of the concerts because the ticket sales were so low. They were also having to downsize several venues.
Makes me appreciate the success David has experienced that much more and just want to continue supporting so he can do this until he doesn’t want to.

I think this song IS about him, the experiences he’s had of listening to friends who tell him they can’t go on living because some guy broke up with them. I am enjoying this new single soooooo much. It’s going to be on repeat for several days. There’s so much to love about it. First of all I love electronica so I enjoy the multiple production effects (not talking about auto-tune here) and the overall “techno” sound of the song. Second what a range he is showing off. Gahh, the high notes on the chorus to the smoldering low notes. Thirdly, like Angelica stated I see David in the lyrics talking from experience maybe from Lake Powell?
It is a perfect summer smash. It’s light, fun, danceable, catchy, and still uplifting and hopeful. It’s going to be my destresser- break-loose-let-my-hair-down-sing-at-the-top-of-my-lungs-crank-it-up-again-song for the next month. The music and David’s gorgeous vocals in the first verse just transports you to another place. I can just repeats those “oohs” and play them as a lullaby.

#182 Bluesky, love your way with words. Have your poetic musings always come naturally or by way of a certain dark-haired musical muse?

Hi everyone, I haven’t been around much today, my great grandmother had surgery for a blocked artery in her leg. She’s 90 and amazing, surgery was successful and she should be home tomorrow! I’m loving all the excitement in David-land! and thanks again for all the kind comments, you are all the best1

bliss #181 I completely agree about the G. Gordon Liddy interview. I found myself being offended, and I wasn’t even in the same air space with him. He was rude and obnoxious. However, David handled it well. I found myself whispering to David what he should be saying. But then, it probably wasn’t something that DA would have repeated.
I’m dumbfounded that Jive released SBL to AOL radio. Why not just release the single now instead of doing something that allows a bunch of illegal downloading?! I guess I don’t get where the marketing strategy is in this. Oh well, just 2 weeks till I can get my iTunes download. I.Can.Do.It!

Txbilslp,
Honestly? I think my brain runs sideways. It always has.
But… the thing is, for some strange reason the peeps on this site are able to tilt their heads and read and somehow ‘get’ what I mean.
I do not know what that means, but I am SO grateful. ^_^
This is one of my “Happy Places”. Welcome!!
Pull up an adverb, a pun or two and make yourself at home.
I love the variety, all the writers and posters. The admins here have a wonderful way of making sure that everyone gets a good place by the fire.
(They just neglect to tell you how hot it can get! Celsius, Fahrenheit… no worries, this site runs on fan power.)

I think this song would be a great movie soundtrack.. something like…
He’s Just Not Into You….
and I’d love to hear it blaring in dark, cool theater.
This is just my first impression..
The song is definitely a song of hope, about love, and about not giving up. Sorta of a gentle song of hope and of encouragement to stay in the game no matter that the game is difficult, because it is good. I think this is a lesson David has learned over and over in his music career (if not yet his young love life) and could be about loving life as well… i think it is true to his experience and he can “own it” all he wants….
Don’t fight
Don’t hide
Those stars in your eyes (in your eyes)
Let em’ shine tonight
Let em’ shine tonight
Hang on
Hang in
For the ride of your life
It’s gunna be alright
Hold on tight
Yea David! ( cheering in his corner) I can hardly wait to see what happens next for him…
