Nanaweize’s recap from SLC
I’m not very good at putting my thoughts into words but here goes! I can only say that today has been a very beautiful day for me. It seemed that everything went the way it was supposed to go.
It was a spectacular day here in Utah. The sky was blue and the sun was shining. I was very excited to be heading up to have my book signed and to see David’s bright smiling face. I felt the excitement running through my body and soul. It was almost like when I was a kid and waiting for my birthday or Christmas. And I was able to meet up with several of my David friends which in itself is very nice!
My hubby and I took a couple of neighbors with us. It was a 16 year old girl and her mom. Both were very excited to see David so that made it even better for me.
We arrived in the line at 11am. My husband…being the great guy he is…saved our place in line so we could go over to the spot where David was going to sing. It was a great spot. There were already a lot of people there but we still could see very well. I was amazed at the view David would have from where he would be singing. Deseret Book Store is directly across from Temple Square . The view of the Salt Lake Temple was wonderful. I said to my neighbor that David is going to just love the view. She agreed!
It was sheer pleasure when David finally made it to the platform and began singing Crush. A warm feeling began to run through my body…I was so proud to be there.
I must say it was as if one of my own kids was up in front singing their heart out. It seemed as if David put everything into the song. It felt like he was looking at each and every one of us and letting us know that he cared about us and wanted to do his best.
He talked a little and then began to sing God Bless The Broken Road. I wondered where I had been and why hadn’t I heard this song before? But I never had so it was a real treat. It was great and I really wanted him to sing more.
As David was singing Crush a man walked up behind me. He asked another fellow behind me who this guy was. He didn’t seem to know anything about David. I turned to him to explain to him that David had been on American Idol. It seemed like he finally realized who David was. He began to bop up and down with the music and clapped really loud. He said “boy this kid can sing”. We all agreed!
I know the line was pretty long but the time we were in it seemed to go by fast. Even the arthritis in my knees didn’t seem to be too annoyed at the wait and the standing. Things just seemed to move along very smoothly. I think Deseret Book did an awesome job preparing for David and his fans. They even had cinnamon rolls and water available for purchase. All the employees seemed so nice to everyone.
Soon I spotted David. Oh my what a feeling! When it was my turn to have my book signed it was like our eyes locked and I was the only one in the store. He was so nice and gracious and seemed to listen to everything I said.
Well my hair doesn’t look as gray in the picture as I thought it was…Look how David is listening to me and looking right at me…Made me forget what I was about to say!!! LOL
What is it with this kid? What kind of hold does he have on us? I often ask myself these questions and the best answer I can come up with is… I don’t know. But I like it!

Nanaweize – I loved your recap! I got the exact feeling of David making me feel like I was the only one in the room – how does he do that!
And I thought the exact same thing about my gray hair in the picture that zoe took of me in front of David – ummm – maybe we become younger around David – LOL!
But this part: What is it with this kid? What kind of hold does he have on us? I often ask myself this questions and the best answer I can come up with is… I don’t know. But I like it!
That about sums it up for me. So glad you had a wonderful day!

I enjoyed your recap; you put your thoughts into words VERY well! The pictures are so vivid, they look like postcards of a place I’d very much love to visit. I wasn’t familiar with “Bless the Broken Road” either but am sure loving it now. Glad the line moved fast for you and that you didn’t have to wait too long to see David. I don’t know what it is about him that draws us in either but I’m so grateful for his presence in my life!
What did your neighbors think of his performance? Are they fans?

archiesfan4life…I think he really does make us feel younger!
Sandybeaches…you know I had many things that I wanted to say to him but when I got right up to him my mind just went blank…at least I didn’t pass out!
Bebereader…My neighbors are fans of David. They do know Lupe and Davids sisters real well. David has actually been to their house. It has been 2 years ago since he visited them but he remembered them before they even spoke to him. I think Claudia, Jazzy and Amber hang out at their home often.
These neighbors are ones that have taken care of Teddy sometime when the Archuletas have been out of town.
They also told us that Teddy has been missing for a week now…say a little prayer that the Archuletas might find little Teddy…they miss him.

ha ha ha Weize…I have been asking myself that question for 2 years. David is definitely a unique and totally amazing person. I am older fan…and no one has touched me as much as David has in just an inspiring way. I still haven’t figured it out…how I can forget who I am also when I am standing in front of David. It’s his eys, his face, and just that look of appreciation that we are his fans. I will support and love David 4ever 🙂 It started with the music…but it has blossomed into an admiration and appreciation for all the wonderful times and memories that David has given me…and LOTS of new friends from all over the world of all ages & genders. Thank you David for all you do 🙂

Nanaweize, great recap. I’m glad you got to lock eyes with David. That’s the “magic moment”. It’s as if you are “downloading” his goodness into your soul, and you can access it whenever you want to or need to.. That’s David gift of appreciation for taking the time and energy to come out to see him.
When David performs, he doesn’t just sing to “the crowd”. He locks eyes with as many individual fans as possible. He is not singing TO people. The song is the vehicle he’s using to reach and connect WITH people. The pics of the crowd watching and being totally mesmerized by David clearly shows the effect that David has on those in his presence. I haven’t seen that many happy faces in one place ion my life.
Again, thanks for the recap, Nanaweize.I haven’t been to Utah in a while, and I remember it to be a very vast and beautiful place, with very nice people.

So his is my new channel is http://www.youtube.com/user/jr4djma
I started with David’s COS Blitzkrieg and will re-upload previous vids (thank goodness for back-ups! hehe)
If others still have problems accessing the SomethingPitchy interview from iTunes, they are now available from my YT channel which has David’s complete press COS interviews/appearances in HD format
Also, like David’s concert tours, I made a similar page in TDC, just to organize all related vids – press, fan vids and pix of his Book Tour.

These signing/singing thingies really bring out the music genius in David — who else can transform a simple mic and a makeshift platform into an instant Carnegie Hall just by opening his mouth, with only one vocal cord vibrating, no less?

One of the ladies was helping me find a suitable container to send the book in when she saw the book and smiled! Then to our surprise Crush came on the back ground music. We both laughed at that but my heart was beating a mile a minute! She then said…”Did you know he had a book signing yesterday?” I almost said…”Da” but refrained. I said..I was there…got this book signed…now it’s on it’s way to my friend in Denmark! Then she saw my return label with Davids picture on it and said..”awesome”! What a moment!

Thanks Weize (love your name) for your recap, I just got my signed copy today, so your story was extra special to me.
The older we are more David must addle our brains, cause usually when we get in front of or anywhere around him our wits leave us.
I get the biggest hoot out of some of the young gals that have the spunk to ask he “Will you marry me” or ” Do you remember me?” and I’m sure sundry other interesting question we will never hear.
If he’s going to make us all younger, couldn’t he do it when we’re in line, few yards before we come are face to face with him?

Betsy#52: I can actually empathize with the girl in that video.
I just found this video on youtube. Here’s the description:
KylieWyoti — June 08, 2010 — This video was a bit rushed…so it’s not the best. And this drawing had glares all over when I scanned it…which makes it kind of hard to see sometimes. I tried to edit it the best I could. It’s still kind of weird looking at the end, but you get the gist of it 🙂 I think this drawing looks a whole lot better in person.
People in the video (in order): David Archuleta, John Mayer, Natalie Cole, Eva Cassidy, Jason Mraz, Natasha Bedingfield, Michael Jackson, and Stevie Wonder.
Btw I gave David this drawing today. IT WAS AWESOME!”

That about says it all, doesn’t it. Great recap Weize, and cute name.
Trying to catch up with all here…all over the place, randomly, as usual!…love all the pics, the recaps …had to go to YouTube immediately to catch God Bless The Broken Road…sigh. Lovely. …as I posted there…I love how David has seemed to pick songs that seem to reflect the tone and message of his book to sing at these signings (so “thoughtful and intentionally David”)…and certainly this song fits the bill.
And no one does acapella like the David. “David Archupella” we call him here. 🙂
The book was (like everything David, for me) a pure joy to read. I savored it, took my time…because, like his concerts… I really didn’t want it to end, and it was over too soon!! David did with this book what he does with everything…poured his heart and soul out authentically, and I so appreciate the personal glimpse…I thought I “got him” before…but I really loved him sharing “who he really is” to all of us. I understood some things in a new way. I know where my first laugh was, my first chills…haha…I kept “taking note.” 🙂 And I WILL be reading again of course…
I hope to have “that moment” I see in all these lovely pics here at some point…I can’t believe he even inscribed them personally with all those people?!!…awesome. That’s how you do a book signing. (I’ve been to some that were disappointing) David’s a Class act.

..funny just read that mini interview…I almost posted my favorite Chapters 8-10… I really loved those last chapters and found them so openly personal…like he really wanted to share himself and be understood. And they were just so uplifting, admirable…and for one so young. Please. I’ve been saying to everyone…he’s got stuff figured out at his tender age, better than most of us decades older.
I know it’s been said many times before, but even more so now…great role model for his peers. I kept thinking of all the young kids he will influence, give confidence and wisdom to, be an good example for. “Nice IS the new cool.”
And in that ego-maniacal business too …a new paradigm…someone intent on remaining a “human being”, not a “star.”
I remembered some of my first thoughts on Shop Around night…the night that solidified my O.D.D….the dichotomy for me…thinking “a star was just born” coupled with…oh no…that business is going to eat this sweet kid up alive. Now. No worries. Bring it. This kid is rock solid in who he is and what’s important.
Sorry, if I’m getting a little off topic on this thread that is for fan-girling over Orem-moments today…just gushing over the book…figured I’d just have to jump in somewhere!

No need to apologize. In all the commotion about the book signings, it’s easy to forget that there’s a book to discuss, too. LOL
David is a great role model for his peers but also for people of all ages. I find myself many times wondering how he would handle a given situation, or reply to someone’s question.
I’m on my second read now, about half-way through. In trying to absorb every point David makes, I’m gaining new things this go-round, like how grueling the whole American Idol experience really was, despite all the good that came out of it.
I hope school and public libraries have ordered copies of “Chords of Strength” to keep on their shelves. If not, it would be a good idea if fans gifted them to their local libraries.
We’ve got to spread David’s message.

You know…been thinking on this, and already have seen it’s effects…this book just might have been the most brilliant PR move yet in David’s career. I’ve already seen some of the “thickest headed”, most “ambivalent” friends of mine…kinda come around all of a sudden. Some read reviews and say they are now “intrigued” and will read the book.
All our crazy fan O.D.D. can render many friends and family members skeptical and weirded out, unfortunately, dismissing David in the process…our passion for him can overshadow his legitimacy to some.
But this book…is just that…an “open book” and a different perspective on “the cute teen idol who some insane adults also love.” His story and his impressive take on everything, coming from him, says it all in a way that sometimes could not be heard from the mouths of overzealous fans.
This book, I believe, will find new fans and open some previously closed minds. He needed to be understood better…it was brilliant to write this book at this point in his career after all.

With all due respect to the scrapbooks his fans made him, David said he needed to tell HIS story in HIS own words. I believe in Chords of Strength, he accomplished this.
When people read it they will see that there’s a lot more to David Archuleta than a beautiful voice. He’s a 19 year old with profound life experiences and has so generously shared with others who he hopes will gain something from his story.

Unfortunately, I just have to say that there are some people who don’t “get” David and won’t even give the book a chance or buy it or read it. They will never understand what I see in a 19 year old and so as wonderful as the book is in David’s words — some people just will never say the light of day! Their loss I say.

Very well said, I hope to have my misguided children read it. Also, I am in a exercise group that is led by a minister–a youth minister–I am going to donate the book to his church and youth group. I know once he reads it, it could become mandatory summer reading. The kicker is –that I’m going to tell him once he has read the book I will give him a Christmas CD so he can hear the magnificent Voice that the book is about. Hee hee!
