The Wait is Over!

While all of you read and highlight your many copies of the book, I will be reflecting on how I will be changed after I read it. I am a Chords of Strength virgin for a few more days.
But for many of you the long wait is over. Having followed the career of David we have peeked in on his life as much as any fans are allowed. What new stories have given you an “A-ha!” moment? He wants us to know him. How has the perspective of these new facts changed your David experience? Has an understanding of how his mind works when he is not in the public eye altered your perception of him? We have a personal connection to him through his music. Has glimpsing the true depths of his emotions caused you to better understand the choices he makes for himself? Hanging on to the last shred of our current perceptions, the public David we are familiar with has become the private and REAL David we were not. In photos we have seen the outward maturity. It took so long to adjust to a simple thing like hair growth over these last few months.
Growing a new perspective might be an adjustment as well. Are we up to the challenge of leaving the youthful David in the past, of having the new mature David in full control? There in black and white, we meet the whole person that is David Archuleta for the very first time.
It is June 1st. Time to share your thoughts.

Oh, Abrra, I knew I could count on you this morning to add joy to my day!! Just finished watching Good Day New York! Didn’t he just look so darn cute? I am on my second reading, since I zoomed throught the first one. Just reading a chapter a day and contemplating all I read on that day. He is one amazing young man, and yes, I did gain insight into who he really is. He accomplished what he wanted with this book, that is for sure. I didn’t think I could love him any more than I already do, but I do. And with each chapter I read again, it just continues to grow. He shared so much with us, and I feel truly blessed!! He is a spiritual giant in my eyes! I am even more convinced now that he is on this earth at this time for a purpose. This world needs him right now with all the turmoil going on in it. He could bring world peace with just his smile, don’t you think? My biggest wish is that the whole world will figure out what a real gem he is!!!!!!!!!

Good morning. I don’t want to give away too much, so forgive me if I do. 🙂
I read David’s book “Chords of Strength” over the weekend. I learned a lot about David’s early years in Florida. Things I didn’t know and was surprised about his mom’s aspirations when she, her mom & her siblings first came to America in search of a better life. I figured David’s dad was always the one who gave David “pointers” about music & singing, but didn’t realize how much his dad and also his mom were instrumental in shaping and bringing out the genius in David. David made it quite evident throughout the book his dad is the one he credits and thanks the most with what he learned about music. I began to realize David’s siblings may also be very talented in their own right as they were also brought up in the same environment. However just as we see David now, his parents also saw David was special and particularly blessed with something more than just a voice.
David made it a point not to mention many other people who may have helped him along the way and who were part of the journey up to, during and after American Idol. Perhaps he thought it best not to, than to possibly “miss” someone & cause hurt feelings. Just like David to think that way. But this is IMO, of course.
There’s so much more in the book. He goes into much detail about his experience “backstage & behind closed doors” during AI, nothing scandalous, just some surprises & some not so surprising. I am amazed he had the strength at 16-17 to get through it all. What he had was perseverance, faith & prayer, something we all need at times. I was one who growing up didn’t have or believe like David. How I wish I had someone like David in my life when I was a teen.
The level of his maturity and his understanding of what is important in life is inspiring and overwhelming. Many kids his age aspire to be “stars” in order to get rich, buy “things” and live the life of a “celebrity”. David aspires to be the best he can be at whatever path God leads him. If anyone is waiting for David to “fall from grace”, as so many celebrities do, they may as well give it up. David has an undeniable strength of character and it will help him lead an exemplary life for the rest of his life. Of this, I have no doubt. He is an amazing young man, an old soul with a heart of gold. I’m proud to be one of his fans. My only wish is that my kids & grand-kids could see David the way I do. That will always be my wish, but alas like so many others who are blind to the genuine goodness and the amazing talent of David, they will always have tunnel vision. Perhaps it’s just a matter of time when David will give us music that will have those who don’t yet “see” the David we do, to finally understand. I hope so.
I watched David on Good Day NY. He looked great though a little like he didn’t get a lot of sleep. Who could? Today is another milestone in his career. We know his sis Jazzy is there. Hope that means the rest of his family are there as well. He needs to be able to share this day with those he loves most. 🙂

How does one prepare for today’s weather? It’s hot; it’s humid in NY and NJ, with a chance of scattered thunderstorms. Hard to believe because the sun is shining brightly right now. 😀
I loved this morning’s “Good Day NY” appearance! Hopefully David will appear on more NYC morning talk shows this week.
Shawna and SF, thank you for your in-depth comments about COS. I’m now on my second read and realizing that, in a rush to get it finished, I missed things the first time around.
I’ll check in here later, and will send updates from Bookends!

People are so cynical it is hard for them to believe that someone could simply want to sing in order to make people happy. I mean, if we didn’t know David, we would have a hard time understanding that in someone! To me that is the main difference between him and all the other good-hearted and generous celebrities out there – they still want the celeb life and all the advantages it brings, even to be able to do good, but they want the fame and fortune first.
I have been looking for you! My son is going to Louisville on his mission – he leaves tomorrow. It actually gives me comfort to think I know a few David fans there. If he knocks on your door, please give him some lemonade or a drink of water! 🙂

After reading I got the same feeling, there definitely is a purpose here.
SF…I too so wish I could be there! I’m still hanging on to hope that he will have a book signing in my neck of the woods. I’m soooo proud of him and feel so blessed to “get” him. Can you believe there are those that don’t get him? That confuses me because it is so obvious to me. But then I step back and remember that everything I am and do in support of David now would have scared the heck out of me two years ago and now it seems like the most normal and natural thing to do.
My respect and admiration for David have grown tenfold. I’m going to start reading again which is what I used to do when I was an avid book reader until David came along…lol, I will be taking notes so I can absorb in particular the last four chapters, those really are a window to his soul and he so freely shares with us. I’m bursting with love for him.
Bebe!!!! So excited for you and the others that will be there today…give David are love!
Momjulee! Nice to see you here…your right about the cynical and jaded members of society. What’s interesting is there are those that are nice people who like David but don’t see him as I do. I wonder why? Bebe and I have had this conversation many times without an answer…lol

Periodically, I see young men walking or riding bikes through neighborhoods in the heat wearing their white shirt & tie. I think about the dedication & love, not to mention sacrifice it takes to do what these young men do for their Faith. Although, they probably don’t see it as a sacrifice as much as it may be to their families because I’m sure they are missed terribly but at the same time they are so proud of them. 🙂

Loved David on the show this AM. If he was any more charming and adorable, he would explode. I look forward to more substantial interviews, however. David tends to interact at the level of the interview, as we have seen numerous times over the years. These 2 were typical early morning schmoozers, with their breezy “lets have our morning cup of coffee together” shtick. David is always magnetic David, and I loved seeing him and hearing what he had to say.
The irony of David and the “Naked Cowboy” was a hoot , too. All David has to do is show up, keep his clothes on, and flash that mega-watt smile, and he is the main attraction.

So excited for David today! Still waiting for my copy of COS to arrive (sigh)–I’m hoping for today. I’ve been reading all the great comments about the book, making me more excited (and more impatient) for it to get here.
Just wanted to say from someone who mostly just lurks around here…thank you for such a great place to come and share in the admiration for this young man. There is such a positive warm vibe here.
MomJulee–always love to hear what you have to say (and frankly what most everyone else on this site has to say)–I also have a son on a mission(in Central America)…and a daughter too(in California)!

Bebe has a parking spot right outside the door of bookends. WOW lucky! She sent a pic to share with all of us.
She told me that there are many people of all ages in line. Some in chairs, some standing, some on the sidewalk. All Waiting for the Prince. 😉 No rain there so far. Its a big party.

I was planning on remaining a COS virgin and waiting until my signed copy hits the mailbox. (I canceled my original B&N order) But when I saw it looking lonely in the store, I had to buy it. This particular B&N only ordered 3 copies. There were 2 when I left.
After a few fans spoke with an employee, they claim they are ordering more. 🙂

Sorry I don’t know what to say about today. Today was an EPIC day for David….so much love, support for him! He is amazing.
I can’t think right now…I’m tired and don’t know how early I am going tomorrow. Debating about getting a bracelet since he is singing. But, even if I don’t I will be there later in the afternoon and just can’t wait to see him and get the book and start to read it. I must get some sleep. I never know what to say to David when I meet him. Hoping & praying for the best and just go with the flow but I am excited to see him tomorrow.

Hi everyone, I’ve been lurking lately. End of the year honors projects and now finals have kept me hopping for the last couple of months.(1 more week!) I have read everything David related though, and its all so exciting. Love,love,love the book! I’m so proud of him and happy for him. I was so surprised to see some of my pics in there! I am so proud of David. I think he will be happy about how many fans showed up at his first book signing. Way to go guys! David’s book means a lot to me. Like I have read from other fans, I laughed out loud sometimes and to my surprise, I cried too. He touches my heart. I hope he understands that this is not some fickle, passing faze for us, his fans, it is a life long love. There is the voice, the smile, the face, the glow and now still more to love, as he shares even more of his spirit with us, and what a beautiful spirit it is! As I read the book, I could not believe that a 18/19 year old has thought about, and has such insight into, principles that make you truly happy in this life. His explanation about music, and what it does, was beyond his years. I am like so many others in repeating, I didn’t think I could love him more, and now, after reading his book, I do.

Haha! My twitter broke tonight from all the messages flying through the air about David. I had to stop when Tweetdeck stopped updating. It was fun! I was hungry for pictures and the fans delivered big time.
Thank you all who commented today. This site is a very special place. What we do gives us joy, being able to share it with all of you is a big bonus.
For David, tonight was a milestone in his career and his life. Knowing that we all shared it with him , some were face to face in NJ, is what being a fan is all about. He was so kind and generous with his time. Not rushed like VIP’s can be. I am thrilled for all who had the chance to go to Bookends. They are changed for good.

So nice to see David so relaxed and happy! Can’t hear what he is saying but you can tell so much by his expressions. Appreciation and gratitude are so apparent. Love him.
I feel so blessed to be alive and be part of the support team for David. He deserves all we can do for him. Being a part of this fan site has been such a rewarding experience, getting to form all these on line friendships is part of the equation for me. David leads by example and reading his words, his insight into life has reminded this grandma of a thing or two…lol

I have never seen David looking so happy and relaxed as he did today at both the TV show and the signing. He has a fan base that is so devoted to him, and the familiar interaction that is so obvious on these videos today will be repeated at every signing he does.
David is a true force of nature, whether he is singing, talking, or trying to make sense out of a Naked Cowboy. The very sight or thought of him fills my heart with joy, and I cannot wait to look into the warmest eyes and handsomest face on earth tomorrow.

okay so everyone is asking for my story so here it is…
I left my house at 11 am and arrived at the book store at 12. There were about 20 people already there and thousands of books in the store. Me and my friend sat down and started reading his book. We made a lot of cool fans in line and we all kept each other entertained. We waited in line for about 7 hours ! We heard david was coming from the back entrance so me and a couple others waited there but police kicked us out and escorted us to our original spots. So they took about 100 of the first fans in line downstairs and we were all waiting in suspense for david. Me and my friends played davids music and we all were singing. At 7 david came into the room and everyone was going crazy. So it was my turn and i had a ring with me so i popped the question! LOL. heres my convo (or at leaast something like this i dont rememeber perfectly what he said.
Me: HEY DAVID !
David: Hey !
Me: I have a question
David : Yah?
Me: will you marry me??
David: Laughing umm
Me: no really will u marry me haha
David: well i just met you it takes two people who have known eachother
Me: DAVID we met before i met u 2x !
David: Ohh ahah umm well maybe if we got to know eachother

OMG!!! Just got back home, having had the most wonderful time at Bookends with Archiesfan4life and Bebe! And in checking my emails, saw one from Bebe informing me that Abrra posted a pic that someone must have snapped of David when I was getting my book signed. Sure enough, it’s me and David! Too funny, and glad it’s just the back of me! Check out #21 above, second pic.
I’ll be stopping by later to report on my experience, but suffice it to say that I was not prepared for the physical perfection that is David James up close and personal! Honestly, after looking at thousands and thousands of photos posted on the internet, and seeing him in concert many times, I was blown away as I stood before him by the perfection of his face… his gorgeous skin, those magnetic hazel eyes and that megawatt smile! And I LOVED his hair, which I had kinda been on the fence about recently.
Can’t comment at all this time about his voice, his music, his stage performance, his artistry.
I’m merely here to report to all of you who have never seen our beloved David up close – he is STUNNINGLY beautiful!!! And there is a radiance that glows from him. The entire room felt electrified. His charisma is off the charts!!! And it was obvious that he was thrilled to be so enthusiastically received by the crowds. Sooo happy to have had the opportunity to meet him, at last, on what was surely a momentous day in his life!
Gotta get back to my real life though, so I’ll post more later.

American Idol’ runner-up David Archuleta kicks off book tour

It’s no secret that David Archuleta, the runner-up on season 7 of “American Idol,” knows how to tell a story when he sings. Now the 19-year-old pop star is telling his own story – from the high notes (his success during and after “Idol”) to the low (when he was 12, vocal cord paralysis nearly put an end to his dreams of a musical career) – in the book “Chords of Strength” (Celebra), which hit bookstores Tuesday.
Archuleta is on a book-signing tour. He phoned from Hollywood, where he was attending last week’s “American Idol” finale, and chatted about his book, “Idol” and his upcoming album.
Question: How afraid were you that you might never sing again?
Answer: I was really scared. Music is the only thing I really felt passionate about. … I was told I could have the surgery, which is really risky, or I could see what voice therapy could do for me after a couple of years. The doctors told me the surgery could permanently damage my throat. So I decided to go to therapy. … I learned that it was up to me to do the effort and put the work into it if I wanted it. It totally paid off.
Q: How did being on “Idol” help you to be a better performer?
A: It’s what got me really performing in the first place. When “American Idol” started, I said, “I want to do what those people are doing.” It made me feel so empowered. … It was all about showing who you are as a person. A lot of yourself starts coming out when you’re performing.
Q: In the book, you said you were harder on yourself than the judges were. What would you have done differently?
A: I’m not much for changing the past. It’s something you can’t change.
Q: What do you think “Idol” will be like without Simon?
A: It’s going to totally change the dynamics of the show. But like Simon said, the viewers really make the show because they’re the ones who are voting. They’re choosing who goes on and that’s what’s really the magic of the show.
Q: Now that your book is done, are you working on another album?
A: Actually, I have a new single that should be coming out in July, and the album will be coming in the fall. … I got really involved in the writing. The songs are going to be more about my life. This is going to show more of me, more of my personality. I’m a quirky kind of person, so I wanted to show more of my unique personality.

I’m so happy for all who are able to attend one(or more!)of David’s book signings. My original excitement of attending Minnesota’s signing had me on pins-and-needles! I can only imagine what being in the same room with David and his “new style” could be like?
It seems I had a previous, unable to cancel, family affair to be at on June 5th! Dang-it! I was looking forward to the trip with my hubby, too! 😦

Hearing him tell about how his thinking leads to the process of writing a book and new music is such a surprise to be found in this interview. Fourty-three minutes of David talking in this interview is a real gemstone of a treasure.

I have to say that I was blown away by that ’43’ minute interview and that interview will be around and well known for a very long time…I hope that he is keeping his journal going because this is a wonderful start to Book #2 down the road.
His CD released in the fall and then a tour…I have been waiting so long to hear confirmation of that.

He is so “not-surface” and it comes through in everything he says.
Interesting comments on his album and progression. There is a whole lot of David we have not seen yet that he is itchin’ to show us.

One more thing – his comments about keeping his energy up physically and mentally for meeting everyone at the book signings – talking to them and listening to them, are amazing. He truly wants to make a connection with each and every single person there.
How great is it that several of the Idol’s from this season stopped in for a few minutes at his signing. He seems to have made quite an impression on the Idol contestants that have met him.

Hi Guys! Wasn’t going to write tonight but I just got home & watched that Something Pitchy interview!
I do think David has a little ADD or he is just restless in that chair!!
OMG! I met David and talked to him (I thought it was pretty long!) it felt like it anyway!
The interesting thing is beforehand they came down the line with yellow post-its and asked us our names and wrote them on the post-its and put it on the page David was going to sign. I think that was a rather cool idea.
This way when the book was handed to David he could see how to spell your name & still hold a conversation with you.
Anyway, I am exhausted beyond belief after standing from 3-9:30! I was pretty much at the end of the line.
BUT, when I first got there even though there was a line I walked into the store & asked is this the line I stand on.
The person said there is no line — they just want to stand there – you can go in and walk around.
So me & Bliss did that and went to the FRONT of the room on the side and hung out there the entire time.
We got to see David PERFORM LEAN ON ME! Oh Man, best notes EVER!! I was singing along! Screams when he came out!
Ok….quickly. I had my book ready & walked up to him (Oh GOD! I was sooooo nervous I can’t even tell you!).
He saw my post-it and said “PATTY-ANN” in the cutest way! I think he remembered my name (or so I will let myself think that LOL)!! I said “How is your hand holding up”. He said: “What?” I said: “Your Hand? from all the signing?”
He said: “Oh, it’s ok, not too bad!” I said: Oh that’s good.
Then I said David Congratulations on the book can’t wait to read it. He said Aw Thank You.
I said David your music means so much to me but for some reason I fumble my words when I’m in front of you.
He adorably said “Oh, I do too” (haha) that’s ok! So I said can I give you this letter then cuz it says how I feel in the letter. He said “Oh sure”. Then I asked can I shake your hand? and he did and said “Thanks for Coming out!”
I stood afterwards and watched the remainder of the ppl there and stood until the end until David left the platform
walked right passed me & Bliss and went through the exit door! He was smiling from ear to ear and waved at us and never looked tired or more adorable!
SO I STOOD UNTIL DAVID LEFT THE BUILDING!
GOODNIGHT GUYS! WHAT A GUY!

Just got back from Borders in Columbus Circle. Any day that includes meeting David is the ENTIRE day and night, but is so thoroughly worth it. I met my good friend, Pabuckie, at around 3:00 and we waited until 7:00 with the gathering throng until David made his much anticipated arrival on to the podium. There is nothing quite like the tension in the air prior to an impending arrival of David. You can cut the excitement with a knife as it builds to almost unbearable proportions.
You can see in the videos his great performance of LOM, which was sung a cappella as only David can do. What an artist he is.
We waited on a long line that extended to the furthest reaches of the store, but, as usaul, shared the experience with a bunch of friendly, high spirited people who were gladly waiting as long as necessary to spend a few seconds with David.
When my turn came, David, dispite having already signed countless books, signed mine as if it were the only book he has ever signed, exchanged pleasantries with me, shook my hand, thanked me for coming, and reinforced all of my feelings about him.
Make no mistake about it. David Is a remarkable human being, worthy of all the accolades he receives, and the highest example of the potential that we all have as people. Beyond being admired, David should be emulated.

Thanks for your stories. It is always so exciting! As I read them and watch the videos from the last few days, the coolest thing shows itself again and again – David’s fans are all giddy in love, exuberant, nutso crazy for him. No matter where in the country or world he goes, the screams and enthusiasm are the same. I love hearing the screams, and seeing the reactions of the audience. The three girls in the front of the recent Lean on Me are priceless. They cannot stop themselves from getting up from their chairs and screaming and celebrating together. WE ALL FEEL THE SAME WAY.

another great night for david on the book tour – i’d insert a happy face, but i’m ashamed that once i got started, it would be hard to stop, hehehe… there was another large turnout of fans last night in nyc to see him, and purchase his book, lots of happy, excited tweets going back and forth by fans, lots of press, along with reps from jive and the publisher – a/r guy jeff fenster was also there in attendance… and we have 3 of the s9 idols there to say hi, and get in some face time with the man of the hour – what an awesome freaking day 😀 yep, the tour is off to a great start, turnout has been awesome, sales have been awesome, and word is spreading about the signings and the book…. am also getting a big kick seeing the crowds – the teens, tweens and adults have been showing up and out for him, for a non music related venture. it’s a very encouraging sign as the date gets closer for the single/cd release. there is talk/rumor of adding addit’l dates, and if so, i hope they come south so those of us down heah can get to see him too. yep, the fans and a whole heap of other folks are liking this book, i’m sure, and coming out to show their support. on to the next one today!

David may be leaving NY tomorrow & flying to Bloomington MN & The Mall Of America for his next book signing event. OR he may be taking a late flight tonight. So for David who has brought so much happiness to so many people these last few days in & around the NY area…
Dear Lord,
Please take care of David. Watch over him and protect him from all harm.
Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path. Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give.
Surround David with loving and supportive people who will love him UNCONDITIONALLY as we, his Archangels do.
Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being.
Give him rest when he’s weary and stamina to sustain his hectic pace.
Give him assurance when he feels doubt and give him joy when he feels sad.
Keep him always in your protective arms during this time on his journey.
And please Lord, give us, his fans, the wisdom to do right by David.
Help us in the way we support David so that it’s always in his best interests.
May he continue to encounter goodwill and happiness wherever his journey leads him.
Keep David and and his voice healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.
