David had a very busy week! He was in Los Angeles for American Idol finale festivities. In fact it was David who provided the entertainment for the pre-idol party on Monday evening at Elevate Lounge, an open-air patio with 150 feet of sliding glass doors surrounding the lounge which is on the 21st floor penthouse of a Los Angeles glittering skyscraper.
“Had a really fun night! :). Got to see @RealBrookewhite and Kristy Lee Cook. Excited for the idol finale tomorrow!” he tweeted.
David sang four songs at the party; two covers, “Gotta Be“ by Des’ree and “Soul Sister“ by Train and two of his own songs, “Crush“ and an unreleased song “If I Could Only Be” that he hopes will make the cut on his new CD to be released in the Fall. He was at ease talking to the crowd of familiar idol-mates who were very enthusiastic as they sang along to the familiar songs and grooved to his new surprise.

This week David won Billboard’s Best Idol award with a whopping 92% of the vote over Carrie Underwood. This was based on Billboard’s ranking of all the idols according to song and album sales and radio play. Carrie Underwood won best female and David handily took the title of best male idol. Fans were then asked to vote between Carrie Underwood and David Archuleta for who they felt was overall the best idol ever. David’s fans turned out in droves! David told Billboard that he was really flattered.
“I guess the fans I have are just really supportive. I think it’s cool that people consider me their favorite, especially because it’s Billboard. I check Billboard every week and I’m starting to get the magazine more, and I have a Billboard book, so it’s just funny that this is from Billboard, too….I think that’s cool.”
On Tuesday afternoon, we got a good look at David’s new hairstyle as he chatted with countless reporters outside the Nokia Theater.

Is it just me, or does anyone else have a problem with David being displayed with a lineup of “non-winners” on the AI stage. Is David really the aesthetic equivalent of Chris Richardson or the other afterthought contestants over the years?
David just received 92% of the vote from a Billboard Magazine (not Fans of David,etc.) poll proclaiming him the hands down, undisputed, most popular AI contestant ever. Instead of leaving Season 7 without a representative due to Cook’s absence , David should have, IMO, been inserted as Cook’s replacement. I realize that the travesty of that night 2 years ago has permanently stained the American idol brand, but throwing David in with the other “contestants” just didn’t seem right.
Having gotten that rant off my chest, I must say that, once again, it was a great treat to see David walk on the stage, and render everyone else on it background noise. David is THE “get” for all the Red Carpet interviews. The 5 seconds David was on the screen was worth enduring the 2 hour self congratulatory gagfest AI put on for itself last night.
Oh, and BTW, congrats to Lee for his win. He’s a helluva nice guy
with a good voice.

Am I the only one who can’t stop watching the four basement videos,and I really do like the new song! Just love the cool kinda jazzy vibe and that movin’ and dancin’ and that head bobbin’ (and did ya see that head bobbin’ in You Gotta Be when he was holding the mic for Brooks, especially towards the end, aaaah!) Ooooh, to see him perform this where we can really see him! I hope he has more of this stuff on the album.
He was just groovin that night and I loooved it! Man he is good!

They put him in the head of the line and next to Kris. I am happy. Watching him stroll out first was STUNNINGLY beautiful.I cannot tell you who else was on stage after seeing that!Most contestants never get invited back to perform. David had opportunities on Idol this year and last. We are the beneficiaries.

I watched Jim Cantiello from MTV on the live stream. If I didn’t know better, I’d say he sole purpose for being there was to talk to David.? 😉

I was so happyily surprised when David came on the AI stage. My heart jumped out of my chest! He looked so confident, happy and very handsome. Putting him next to Kris was like having him represent the Season 7 winnder. I think that Cook is overseas performing. I was amazed that they got everyone else. After I saw David come out I played it back again and again. I didn’t even know who won until twenty minutes after the show ended and then I went back to watching David again. I was up pretty late.
I thought that it was funny that Jim Cantiello was so anxious to interview David. I watched the live stream too and as soon as he spotted David he mentioned that he was there. As Jim was interviewing other celebrities I could see David in the background. Then as David got closer, Jim kept his eye on him and you knew that he was afraid that he would get away before he could talk to him. David was in such demand. Then “What’s her name ( Janice ?) and family” wanted to come up to Jim to talk but he pushed them back and told them to wait so that he could grab David as soon as he could interupt him from talking to someone else. Jim was so afraid of losing him. It was all so sweet to watch. Love Jim. Love David even more.

Cook was doing a charity event in Kansas City and didn’t feel right trying to change that to be on idol last night. Kudo’s to him!! He really is a great guy.

Glad that Lee won! Saw your tweet last night, Abs, and that is how I knew he won. Woo hoo!!! He is what AI should be about. You know who is going to win cause the frontrunner is usually pimped so much by the judges that the underdog seems to get the votes. He is such a nice, humble guy. Loved his reaction when he won and when Ryan asked him how it felt, and he said “I don’t know”, that was priceless. Besides that is who David wanted to win too.
Looking forward to tonight for chat. Should be awesome!! All who have read the book please come. It will be so fun to see everyones feelings about it. I am on my second reading and it is even better. Just loving it.

OK, today I really am going to get something done!!!! But what if my book comes today? (I thought it was coming yesterday.) I guess life is all about priorities. If it comes, oh well house and flowers, guess you’ll have to wait. I am coming to the chat even though I haven’t read the book. I just want to be here with you.
I was so happy that Lee won last night. But like everyone else here, my focus was on David, the interviews, the pictures, and on stage dressed in white. Can I just say that he melts my heart with pure joy.

Anybody got a cup of patience I can borrow! Geez Louise! On some other sites read where the books were shipped by B&N by regular mail –rather than express. Grrrr.
Bliss– Scenario–Maybe David was asked to stand in for Cook–but I can see him saying he wouldn’t feel right doing that.. I’m happy with the position they gave him –but if the truth be told –he should have been in front of everybody.
Abrra–I watched Jim C. too and I agree , his total purpose being there was to interview David. He mentioned David umpteen times. Who in the world was that pushy, obnoxious woman? Loved it when Jim put her off for David.
To me, the best part of the whole show last night were the past Idols and David ( who looked extremely handsome) coming on stage, they didn’t devote enough time to that and you could plainly see that Paula and Simon were enjoying it immensely. Their faces were beaming. IMO they could have done without a couple of 6 minute performances and have had the past Idol top three places do duets ( thinking of “No Air” ) I’d have been glued to my TV.

I’ve been trying to decipher the words to If I Could Only Be.
I just love the vibe of the song how he performs it, just can’t make out alot of the words. Think this is something David wants to talk about or he wouldn’t want it on the album. So, if he has something to say, I want to hear it.
I took what they had at FOD and added what I hear, have no clue if a word of it is accurate. Would love it if somehow we could get the lyrics. If they are testing the waters with the fanbase and the song, it is tough for fans to judge without accurate lyrics. Anyway, came up with this. Would love some input!

Abs, I’m only on chap. 2 in the book. I’m going to read it as slow as I want to and just when I want to, so I can make it go on and on and on. One of my favorite authors has a new book out in her latest sequel, but that one will have to wait until I’ve finished COS, so it may be kind of dusty before it gets picked up. Short word on COS–my heart is being touched, and I’m only into chap. 2.

I’ve been looking at these pics of David from last night, and as much as I like to say that his appearance should not be the focus of his appeal, the fact remains that David is shockingly handsome . I mean, look at the pic at # 26. Who looks like that? It’s jolting to the senses to look at these pics.
On another note, I was in a Barnes and Noble in Manhattan today and asked if they had David’s book. Sure enough they did, so I took the escalator up to the music section, and there were about 5 copies on the shelf. I took a copy from the shelf and held it in my hands. I didn’t open it because I want to wait until I can give it my full attention, and I have an anti-snippet policy. Anyway, my point is that just holding the book had a positive energy that I could feel, and I found myself treating the book with respect and love as I held it and then gently returned it to the shelf. I know that all of you can understand and appreciate that.

Emmegirl and Angelica: I appreciate that you’re both taking a stab at the lyrics to “If I Could Only Be”. While you’re battling them out (lol), some of us are using them to follow along to David’s singing. I’m sure loving that song!
Bliss #46 David is appealing on so many levels. During the book chat tonight, at times we had trouble keeping up with the conversation because David’s singing was distracting us from talking about him. LOL

There was a season 9 finale party at Skybar in LA. Here is a loooong video of the attendees as they leave the event. David comes out near the end around 24:52. He is with his aunt. There were 2 others with him in the car, I will assume they are publicists. I took a few screencaps of him below.

bebereader, I love that song too! One time I hear one thing and the next time another and it doesn’t matter, still love it!
And that video – he starts little more than a half minute in – swaying 1:00, head whips at 1:14, 1:19, the move at 1:38, head down groove thing 1:42, more moves 2:00-2:05, those oh-oh-ohs and that swaying, that swaying, then the “be-e-e-e-e-e-e-e”, the hand, lordy the hand, at 2:43, hunkerdown at 2:45 followed up with double-move head whips and shoulder dips at 2:49 & 2:55, the hop at 3:05 then again with the swaying, the merciless hand at 3:20 and I think I saw the claw around 2:27!
Obsessed, you bet! Who does not want to see him sing this live!!! Possibly at a book signing, OMG!
(and as far as the high parts go, remember when he first sang the Riddle, they weren’t as strong. Only took a few concerts in and he owned them!)

Hi all,,
I got up early this morning to finish COS. I know we aren’t really discussing it here yet, but I needed to share. I loved the whole book, but when I got to the last line, I burst into tears. Not because it was done, but because in the last line he did it. He was speaking . Directly . to . Me. And then, Bliss, I hugged it and gently and respectfully put it back up on the shelf.
I then came and checked out The Voice. I am going to have a happy day. Hope you do to!

Bliss, I was thinking that once one has the book it is like having something uniquely special in your possession and it is a gift from David.
I waited and followed the FedeX delivery from first having the papers acknowledged from Mirabel in Quebec and then on to Newark and I remember Indiana was listed twice and then Mirabel and on to Halifax. I checked out the tracking early each day and then later in the day. It was quite a tracking session and they are good to their customers, they told me why it was stuck in Halifax for another day. At least they told me why. I watched for the parcel all of yesterday and then half an hour before cut off time it was delivered to my husband’s office. He brought it home like it was something from a distant relative. I stopped preparing dinner like everyone expected I would, sat down in the kitchen and put on a long lasting smile that always happens when David is involved. Between last evening and today I read it all and some parts twice. I awoke at 4 am and it was light outside, so I took my book and tiptoed past the sleeping dogs. I found a comfortable chair far away from everyone in the house and then I read it chapter by chapter until it was finished. How couold I have a visit with David and leave in the middle?
It does have a personal feeling to it and who but David could have something that special envelop the entire book? It is truly a wonderful writing and that should fall within the limit of book comments I hope I can safely say before June 1st…

SB and Bliss…I loved your words. And yes he is distracting to look at like bebe says. Book chat was so much fun but David kept interrupting us…lol
I also sat and carefully took it out of the box like if it were a delicate rose, looked at it, gave me granddaughter hers, first thing she did was smell it…lol So I did too and hugged it. I’m still perplexed about the emotional reaction. The book is a treasure chest full of Davidisms. I’ve bought two for myself, one for his signature and then put away and one for multiple readings with post its for notes and what not.
Angelica…elf story modeled after David…I want to read it.

After calling the book store in Ridgewood and being “strongly advised” to arrive before the store opens, I have decided to forego that event in favor of the next day’s extravaganza at Border’s. It’s all David’s fault. He’s just too dang popular. I wish all those who make the pilgrimage to Ridgewood a great time, and I hope we will get a video and narrative account of the festivities in excrutiating detail.

And in a way, Billboard actually makes the distinction between established success vs. subjective appeal. In another Billboard poll that measured album sales, individual song sales, and radio play, Kelly Clarkson came in first place followed by Carrie Underwood.

David Archuleta sang for me. Granted, it was just two lines. But somehow, I now understand the enormous charm of this baby-faced “American Idol” star, season 7’s runner-up.
In a recent phone interview, I asked the 19-year-old which of his original songs best captures his personality. He immediately said: “Works for Me,” a bonus track off his self-titled debut album. Then he launched into a sweet, drawn-out melody. “No, I won’t make up my mind. I’m too good at wastin’ time.”
I was too disarmed to come back with a response.
But David, if you’re reading this: I don’t think you’re the procrastinating type at all. You’ve yet to hit two decades, and you’ve already serenaded on “Star Search,” overcome vocal cord paralysis, weathered the grueling rounds of competition to become a finalist on “Idol,” released two albums and now you have a memoir out! Please!
During the interview, Archuleta talked about his faith, humility and his new book.
Q. In your memoir, you come across as someone who wants to keep a low profile. When you were auditioning for “American Idol,” you didn’t tell your friends or anyone at your high school.
I was just afraid of people having high expectations for me and then coming home and disappointing them. I didn’t want anyone to know.
Q. How do you personalize the cover songs that you perform — like your much-buzzed-about “Idol” performance of “Imagine”?
I think you have to believe in what you’re really singing, and really feel something as you sing. When you believe, there’s a connection and a truth in what you’re saying. The truth is what hits people. In “Imagine” you’re imagining a situation of how things can be, imagining what it’s like. People will feel that. So many people connect to that. It’s what I love about music.
Q. You talk about your faith and prayer a lot in the book. And you’re from Utah. Are you Mormon?
Yes.
Q. Why didn’t you mention that in the book?
I didn’t mention that? I don’t like flaunting my beliefs. People know it’s a big part of my life. I don’t think it should be all flashy and showy. The book is supposed to be who I am. People want to know why (I’m) the way I am and why I’m doing these things. I’m not perfect. I’m happy to help other people be happy, that’s what life is all about.
Q. You mention that running is a hobby. Are you still a runner? Do you want to run a marathon someday?
I recently messed with my leg. I didn’t stretch. Oh, bummer. The other night I got some new sweat pants. You know, I really want to do a marathon. I’m not going to be the fastest person. But I can say I did the marathon.
Q. What projects do you have coming up?
I’m working on my second pop album. I’ve been writing a lot. What’s cool about writing is you get to show more of you. On “American Idol,” fans get to know you as a person. (But) you don’t have any of your own songs.
Q. You’re only 19; do you picture yourself putting out albums well into your senior years?
Sure, I would love to. I loved music since I was little. … I don’t see myself quitting. It’s such a part of who I am. Tony Bennett has been doing this for years. He’s still doing it and still sounding great. I don’t think you can get sick of music.
Q. How are your vocal cords doing after the partial paralysis you suffered a few years ago?
It’s just really amazing, my voice has learned to work around it. I feel fine. I can go for hours recording and get through a whole set jumping around on the stage. I feel really grateful. It can be easy to give up. I just feel I have to thank God. You’re not always the one in charge.

Zoe and I are going crazy trying to determine how early we need to arrive. We have agreed we are a “little” passed the age of arriving at 3 am and sitting on the sidewalk for 5 hours waiting for the store to open! LOL
Bookends keeps telling us that they know what they are doing – they have had signings for Presidents, Senators and “even Ozzy Osbourne” – I told them David is more popular than any of them – they didn’t seemed impressed with my opinion:) Zoe was told the exact same thing when she called.
Of course, we could spend those hours trying to understand what happened to the two reserved women who used to be us two years ago! Never mind – this is way more fun!!!

Archiesfan4life, I was looking forward to meeting you and the others who are going to Ridgewood, but I’m sure we’ll have other opportunities once David “hits the road”. After going to Borders in NY, being assured that there will be enough books, and being told that David will stay as along as it takes to sign all of them, I decided to go there.
Ridgewood should be special, though. It will have an “opening night” feel to it, which brings with it extra excitement. To all who do go to Ridgewood, have a ball, and I look forward to hearing (and seeing, if possible) all about it.

David indeed had a busy & sweet week. And as usual just trying to catch up with everything that went on. LOVE his hair! Love his confidence. Love how much he’s “grown” since last year’s AI finale. Loved his playful banter with showbiz Shelly. He is such a flirt..”Maybe we can help each other out” when she said her love-life was slow! 😆 And LOVE how cameras just love him! He is just as photogenic as always, maybe more so! He is a very beautiful man. Perfect!
Not sure about the new song yet. It seemed to be hard to sing effortlessly for David. I’m sure he’ll nail it after he sings it a couple more times. I thought it was cool he was asked to be the entertainment for that party though. 😀
I’m still waiting for THE BOOK! The only time I’ve waited this anxiously & with so much anticipation was when I waited to see David in concert. What a feeling!
We’re having a severe thunderstorm here..again. 😦 I know David is getting ready to fly out to the east coast soon. Maybe tomorrow, and because of the storm and the possibility my power will go out, I wanted to post the prayer for David now in case I can’t come in later. Not saying goodnight yet though as it’s not even 6pm in LA! So just in case..
Dear Lord,
Please take care of David. Watch over him and protect him from all harm.
Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path. Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give.
Surround David with loving and supportive people who will love him UNCONDITIONALLY as we, his Archangels do.
Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being.
Give him rest when he’s weary and stamina to sustain his hectic pace.
Give him assurance when he feels doubt and give him joy when he feels sad.
Keep him always in your protective arms during this time on his journey.
And please Lord, give us, his fans, the wisdom to do right by David.
Help us in the way we support David so that it’s always in his best interests.
May he continue to encounter goodwill and happiness wherever his journey leads him.
Keep David and and his voice healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.

AFFL, guess we’ll throw caution to the wind and pray that we’ll get to Bookends before they sell out! We’re probably overly anxious about it, but since they won’t tell us how many books they have on hand (why???), it’s certainly conceivable that they will sell out, and early, especially if there are an unlimited amount of copies anyone can buy.
Not likin this store much, but heck, if it gives me the chance to finally meet David, I’ll zip my lip at the checkout line.

My anxiety level has just come down a few notches. I doubt Bookends has anywhere near the amount that Utah has, but somehow I’ve got to believe they’ll have enough for those diehards, like AFFL and me, who’ll be getting to the store by early afternoon.
Now what to do with the 8 hours or so we’ll be waiting for David to show up? No problem! We’ll find a comfy spot to curl up and submerge ourselves in that eagerly anticipated read! The floor should work just fine! 🙂

Bebereader, we will definitely meet each other along the Archu-Highway. I really wanted to go to both NY area signings. It was just not feasible. I’m hoping to make up for it with an extra concert, although getting a ticket may not be an easy task this time around. We all wished for David to have great success, and those of us who have been there since the beginning will have to share him with those who are getting on board now. It’s a small price to pay,however, to have David realize a dream that he so completely deserves.
I wonder if the criteria for good seats at his concerts can be based on seniority.

Funny you say that about seating at concerts. When I went to the Foxwoods show in December it sure looked like what you describe. Dawn and I had first row seats. As I looked down the row of about 30 more seats across the front, I spotted tons of people I had met at concerts and bonded with. Especially sweet was djbell seated in the center with her magical ninja video camera that looks like a still shot camera 🙂 I felt like David was singing to us in a private setting LOL

I believe David is a “Traveling Man” today. I think he may be taking Mom along on this trip. I don’t think this will be a solo venture. It’s too special. Not many 19 year old’s can say they wrote a book which seems destined to stay on the best seller list for a long while. This is an occasion to share with loved ones who made the life he’s led possible. IMO, of course.
I guess I just HOPE his mom accompanies him. He’ll be so happy & excited after each book signing that he will be bursting with adrenaline & a need to just TALK to someone he loves about his feelings! I can just “see” him in my mind’s eye…arms flailing, hands flying, feet jumping in the privacy of his hotel room! He’ll be so grateful to everyone, when in reality, everyone is
very grateful for the gift of David Archuleta and all he’s given & shared with us.
I envy all who will be attending a signing event. If I could, I would be also, but it’s not possible for me. I do hope all who live near enough & not difficult to get to one, makes it one, or two or three! I’m still waiting for THE BOOK!

Here are the signing guidelines for Bookends given to us by the publisher:
The books will go on sale on Tuesday, June 1st 8:00am, on a first-come,first-served basis. Books must be purchased at Bookends. They are $22.95 plus tax. We accept all major credit cards except for Discover.
Your book along with your Bookends receipt is your (ticket) to get into the signing. No wrist bands will be issued. Therefore, you can either get in line or come back later in the afternoon and get in line. Your call.
There is no limit to the number of books you can purchase per person.
He will personalize books the day of the signing only. Name only….. no message.
No memorabilia will be signed
He has agreed to stay sign as long as it takes.
Pictures from the line only ….no posed pictures with David.
We expect a large crowd so plan accordingly and be patient. We will move people through as quickly as possible.

Before I pry myself away for some much needed productivity, those new vids are amazing. His voice is strong as ever *that voice, that voice*, even his falsetto… he is so brilliant. Who, who, can sing anything and to perfection like he can. NOBODY! If you find em, please let me know. And I love that kind of groovin vibe he has. It looked like the crowd was loving him. I hope they give him the airtime he deserves this time around.

I know everyone is not into the voting thing but those comments on the Access Hollywood poll are getting pretty ugly.
“I’m sure David is a nice kid with his snuffly nose and “golly gee whiz” manner, but I want to hear a gown-up in concert. Someone who oozes sex appeal, but is cheeky about it & has the best vocal chops I’ve heard in years. Only one person fits the bill: ADAM LAMBERT!”

You know how I hated the misspelling of his name with two TT’s?? LOL Well as David says there is a reason for everything and IDK the fact that I stumbled upon this this morning and it’s misspelled makes me laugh. Thanks DAVID I will look at the misspelling in a more POSITIVE LIGHT from now on! haha

Cool article about “Chords of Strength” from Deseret News:
“David Archuleta is a dreamer.
And a skeptic.
And an optimist.
And now the 19-year-old singer is also a writer.
Yep. You read that correctly. Archuleta is a published author. Of a book. A 256-page book, to be exact.
And while you might be surprised that the “American Idol” runner-up has writing skills outside of music, no one was more surprised about the prospect of a book than Archuleta himself.
There’s a lot more to Archuleta’s life than just “American Idol,” and when the editors at Penguin publishing house learned of how the young star had overcome vocal cord paralysis and a number of insecurities before finding success as a musician, they saw what Archuleta could not.
“At first, I was like, what? What is there to write about? It’s like I’m not that interesting of a person,” Archuleta told the Deseret News in a phone interview from Southern California, where he was working with songwriters on new material.
“I didn’t think I was all that super special,” he said. “Every single person has a story to tell, but not everyone has that opportunity to. I never imagined having this kind of thing, to be able to share my experiences and things that I’ve learned and have people actually want to hear what I’ve got to say.”
It took a lot of juggling and overcoming fears on Archuleta’s part, but on June 1, “Chords of Strength: A Memoir of Soul, Song and the Power of Perseverance” will hit bookstores.
Getting the book to publication was not an easy process. Archuleta is not a fan of writing. In fact, he finds the process of putting words on a page somewhat terrifying. And beyond that, just remembering all the details of his short life was somewhat daunting.
Luckily, Archuleta had the help of Monica Haim, who pushed the Utahn to go past his typical, brief answers. The more he would say, “I don’t know,” the more Haim would challenge Archuleta to remember, and, with some work, memories flooded back.
“When you really pay attention and focus enough and try hard enough to think about something and give enough time to think it through, it will come back,” Archuleta said. “Even to the point where what you felt comes back and what your surroundings were. It was a really cool exercise for me.”
The two worked together from Day One. And it was a lot of work. Long conversations, detailed questions, and editing and re-editing were all done during and in-between tours and recording albums, but Archuleta is extremely proud of “Chords of Strength.”
“Nothing’s ever perfect, but just because something isn’t perfect doesn’t mean you give up on it,” he said. “Looking back, look at how far we came, look at how much we got accomplished. The things that I feel really good about with the book can help so many people potentially.”
Help? you ask. Can a teenager’s memoir help me?
Yes, it can, said Archuleta, who questioned the good of talking about himself for an entire book. “I know I haven’t lived for the longest time, but I have learned things.”
“It’s up to other people to be interested in what I say,” Archuleta said. “But I just hope that I will be able to help people in some way with what I have to say and how I just view my life and how I’ve tried to live it.”
Archuleta doesn’t know why exactly he was supposed to write “Chords of Strength,” and he doesn’t know who exactly is going to read it or what people will get out of it. He does know, however, that he was supposed to write it and share all he could.
“I’m hoping that people will find things in common with me,” he said. “I hope they’ll say, ‘Hey, this kid is normal, he’s got problems, he’s got fears, but he was still able to get through it.'”
Archuleta believes most important parts are near the end, where he tries to talk about why he does things and why he looks at music with a spiritual perspective.
“I feel like God’s hand has been there,” he said. “Even though you think, why would He let me do this? Why would He give me this chance? What is the purpose of this? That’s where I really focused most of my concentration. I felt that’s what made me who I am the most, and that’s what’s given me the most strength.
“When people read this book, they want to know why I am the way I am, and why I’ve decided to live my life the way I do, and why I’ve chosen music. That’s where I wanted to explain to people, this is why I do things, because music is such a powerful thing.”
As a tween, Archuleta didn’t like the sound of his own voice, making him skeptical when it came to his musical dreams. A lot has changed since then, and his talent is no longer something he can ignore or question.
You always have to be prepared because you don’t know how long things will last, Archuleta said. All you can do is try to do it. It won’t always work, but it’s surprising how often it will.
“I’ve wanted to sing for years, even though I’m only 19,” Archuleta said. “Life is about constantly progressing. You constantly have to keep working and striving. As frustrating as that may get, that’s what makes it feel so good.
“I doubted myself so much and, for some reason, as much as I doubted myself, I went for it anyway,” he said. “I always hoped for something good to come out of it. I hoped more inside than I doubted outside. And I’m so happy that I listened to that voice.”

If we are hearing it right, I now understand why he likes this song. Am also inclined to believe he helped pen this song.
Am warming up to this song. Especially if he develops the vocal memory for this and eventually nails it – like every other song he has commanded.
With constant listening & singing since last night, even I have the breathing down pat. Am sure he will stylize the portions where the melody tends to be monotonous and not extend the ending of the lines/phrases in a similar pattern. And if played an itsy bit slower, so he can snatch breath where it matters, the jazzy groove can even be enhanced.
This has potential. OK, am changing my verdict on this one. Liking it now.
But wouldn’t it be great if he can release SNY?

I’m enjoying listening to IICOB and following along with the words. I had my granddaughter listen for the first time and she loved it. She said this is that kind of song that gets stuck in your head. My thoughts exactly.
Angelica…the places we will go…lol Do you think David wears that plaid disguise to go in public? Like the strawberry festival about 1/2 from my house (why didn’t I go?!) and not get recognized?

JR…Liking your analysis…She’s Not You was also instant like for me. Some on the first album weren’t, but upon several listens they grew on me. Then hearing them live gave them all new meaning.

I’m loving the attempts to nail the lyrics of IICOB. It reminds of similar attempts with a song back in the ’60s called “Louie, Louie” by The Kingsmen. The song became a classic. IICOB has been re3playing in my my head since the night it “debuted”, and I am hoping that it makes the cut on the new CD. It has a great vibe to it, and, in David’s hands, will be an even greater cooncert performance song.
David makes good songs great, and great songs epic. Only a precious few artists through the years have been able to do that, and not one of them was 19 years old.

True. Not at 19. That song is in my head too. Catchy. Something about the vibe or tempo makes me want to keep time with my shoulders. I like watching David move to the rhythm of it too. Hope it makes the album AND the concerts.

153. Jacyryan – Just the way the lyrics are written sounds like something David wrote or had a big part in. I hope it makes the album. I can see why David wants this song to be on the album It is such catchy tune & it’s got that “David soul vibe.”
(I fee he wrote this all by himself! shhhhhh!) It reminds me of “Don’t Tell Me”, “Works for Me” — I think these are the type of songs David really likes singing (the soulful vibe type).
It’s also been “stuck in my head” since we first heard it!!
I love how he moves to it esp. those head whips. Perhaps being the 1st time singing it he was a bit nervous, and he sounded a tad strained going into his falsetto, but I’m sure he is going to “nail this one” given the chance.
I can actually picture this being such a “crowd pleaser”!
