Growing Up Close and Personal

Posted by djafan on Sunday, May 9, 2010

I love David’s vlogs!  I watch them repeatedly and have a favorite clip in each one where he makes me smile, cry, or bust out laughing.  This on-camera communication with his fans is such a personal touch.  You can feel the sincerity not only in his eyes but also in his voice.  Nothing fake about David.

Watching David’s vlogs over time, one after another in chronological order, I began to notice more than the obvious  physical changes of his maturing face.  I also observed an increasing level of comfort and confidence with each vlog.

He is such a natural in front of the camera, looking into it talking to me.  That’s how it feels and I think he feels it too.  Remember the one where he coughs and quickly says “Don’t worry, I’m not sick?”  He knew what our reaction would be.  This made me think that he may read the fansites.  Who knows?

So my love for David and his vlogs triggered the idea of a vlog mashup with my favorite clips all in one place for easy access.  I purposely made it simple no frills, just David talking to us.

I hope you all like it.

    Great video DJA!
Oh so many cute, adorable, funny moments in that video. Must have been torture for you to re-watch all of them to put them in your video – haha! Too many moments to mention that are so awesome and YES he sounds so sincere and cracks me up at the same time! Loved it!

djafan: Your mashup of David’s vlogs is a real treat! We may tease about how hard it is to choose which clips to use but it’s clear how much time and effort you put into this project. This one’s a keeper, for sure! Thank you!

Dja – I loved this mashup. I feel like I could show it to anyone and say “See? That’s why I love him.”

♥ And that tweet of his is love. ♥

I loved how in David’s Mother’s Day tweet he included “incredible women who act as a mom”.

  20. Angelica said

So love this mashup of all his vlogs in chronological order. What a difference toward the end in his appearance and demeanor. Still sweet, humble and unaffected but lots more assurance in front of the camera. His face is longer and more angular too.

#6 Joner, I noticed the brow wipe too which I hadn’t before. Love that.

My favorite part I think is toward the later clips, when he is saying, “As you can see, I don’t know what to do with my hair, but then I never did…” He looks up and off as if he’s trying to recall a time when he EVER knew what to do with his hair. Or something. I don’t really know what he’s thinking but it fascinates me how he just spaces out like he’s trying to check his facts. I love the expressions and the eyebrow raises and the wide-eyed looks when he zooms into the camera to make a point. Second favorite clip…”Any people claiming that they’re me on like myspace or facebook, it’s probably not me.” Probably. Like he can’t say for sure these imposters are not actually him, but they probably aren’t. LOLOL! That last clip he looks amazingly handsome and mature. But I hope he never loses the quirky side of his nature as he ages. Part of his fascinating charm is that he is so unfiltered and genuine.

  21. Alynne said

LOL! Angelica, That’s also my favorite part. He looks up to the ceiling as if he’s just been transported to another place. I would love to know what he was thinking during those 2 sec. You’re probably right, he was checking his facts, after all, he would never want to be dishonest!

I love all his cute expressions! They make me smile…..real big :)) This video also reminds me that before he made my jaw drop with his voice during his audition, it was his personality that caught my attention. How can you not help smiling at the t.v. when hearing him speak? Adorable!

    Happy Mothers Day!

May your happiness in being a mom, wanting to be a mom, having mothered someone, sometime….. shine.

    It. is. worth. it.

I am so grateful to my mother and all the mothers in my life. A favorite song of mine has the lyric: “No good thing is ever lost…”. I believe this. Thank you all so much for being who you are.

  23. thanks for the mash up, djfan – it was a wonderful gift. Loved that moment in the hair video, also. He is like a happy pill. If you’re feeling down & in the dumps, just watch one of his vlogs or better yet, keep this one handy with just short of 8 mins of euphoria. Love, love, love it!

  24. you ladies here are all so special. Loved all the coverage and entertainment for the past month & half while I was on the road and away from home. Though the wifi was available everywhere (even in the middle of the Colorado/Utah desert), the signal was rarely strong enough to keep connection or send out comments. Just had to get on & stay on till I read all the articles and posts.

Aside from our visit with family in Maryland, Nashville was the highlight of our trip on the road. It crushed me to hear about the floods. That part of the south is beautiful – no wonder David loves it there. Also thanks to Emifriend for all the info; sorry to hear about all of the destruction but glad you are safe and recovering.

Loved the video! Love this thread. Love all of David’s Vlogs & blogs. Love David! Love you all!

Running late for usual on Mondays! 😆

Talked to my kids at length or at least they talked TO ME and the consensus is, it’s time to think of retiring this year! So I guess I will be seriously looking into it. 🙂

    See ya later!

  26. refnaf said

Sweet vid mashup dja, thank you. Angelica you said it well, David is so unfiltered and genuine.

Hope everyone had a good day yesterday, I know I did… all the kids home=fun and I so appreciate David’s tweet, the way he included all women… (((hugs David))

Retirement SF!!!! Get the Archu RV ready!!! Woot!

  27. SandyBeaches said

Keep the vids coming dja, they are quite fine…

refnaf…We knew awhile ago that the time was coming for SF’s retirement, so yes, reserve a seat in advance on the ArchuRV (TOfan?)…You are the best navigator so your seat is a shoein! I am sending my name in for the possibility of an early seat reservation as well! Will this be for the next tour, haha, seriously though…

Two out of three of my kids were away at their jobs. I sincerely appreciated David’s tweets on that special day for Mothers…

    Good Morning All!

Yesterday was day filled with family. I’m blessed to still have both my parents and my grandkids are doubly blessed to have a close relationship with not only their grandparents, moi and spouse, but also with their great-grandparents. And the cherry on top for the day was David’s wonderful tweet!

I’m so happy you all are enjoying the video. Upon first completing it it had music and all these effects. This being my second video ever I wanted to go all out but I wasn’t buying it…lol. I peeled everything back to just David and was totally happy, just David, front and center, speaking to us like only he does. It is true that sometimes less is more…IMHO.

Thank you all for your kind comments, they are so much appreciated!

Angelica…want to also thank you for the wonderful slideshow!

  29. Fiona said

Thank you, dja, for the lovely vlog mashup! 8 mins of David’s voice = heaven! And also thanks Angelica for the beautiful slideshow! I have always loved that song! Used to drive my family crazy by listening to it over and over and over … !!

dja, great job! loved it! wonderful start to the day!

I have no idea why, but the awesome little eyebrow wipe at 1:20 and expression after reminds of a gorgeous, talented singer who also sang Love Me Tender.

  31. SandyBeaches said

Beyond all else that he does, David shows young people how to love and respect a mother and in the “ME” generation that is appreciated…

  32. bluesky said

I finally got a chance to watch your video. Thanks so much for taking the time to do this. There were moments and times that I did not remember so it was a really nice review. I can feel your concern, love and empathy for DA in the all of the clips you included.

Thanks, again for sharing. It is amazing to me to have the opportunity to follow along (in some part) the journey of this exceptional soul.

  33. bluesky said

So… I assume you all are madly checking out the rumors running rampant? Re: song, singing, new CD, book-signing?

  34. bebereader said

Bluesky#33 Been hearing a lot of rumors about the possibility of David performing a new song at the Utah and maybe NY book signings. I’m sitting back and waiting to hear how true they are. 😀

dja: Still enjoying your mashup, one day later. David’s face is so expressive; he’s like the man of a thousand faces. He looks different to me in each vlog.

Meanwhile, 0o0bluedots0o0 just posted another video on youtube.
    I always enjoy her stuff:

YAY! I just emailed Bookends in New Jersey, and they told me they are shipping to any country!! I’m so thrilled, since I really thought I’d be left out (again) living where I live.

I only have to confirm something: the asked for my credit card information. Is it safe to give that info to them? Are they a reliable company for sure? I do realise I’m probably over-reacting, but I’ve been robbed twice (not online though), and I’m really skeptical about this kind of thing.

    Thanks in advance.

  36. Abrra said

I gave mine over the phone. They are a well established business. They do many celebrity book signings. In the end it’s your decision. I think that all who ordered had to give CC info.

I think they tweeted about you dear ! ( the last part)

@jenleighbarry Happy to do that and please tell your friends. We have been getting calls from all over —just got a call from Finland.

  37. bebereader said

Embe#34 For what it’s worth, I’ve been to Bookends in Ridgewood, New Jersey. They have a good reputation and have been in business for many years. Ultimately it’s your decision to give them your credit card information but coming from someone who’s actually been to the store, I don’t see a problem. I’d rather purchase the book over the phone than by plastering my credit card info online.

  38. djafan said

So how’s everyone doing? It’s kinda quiet.

Bluesky…David makes me feel all of those things, sometimes in that order sometimes simultaneously…lol

    Bebe…like those videos too.

Thanks Pabuckie—One of the best “right on” articles ever written about David. Its nice when a writer truly understands and sees David. I left a comment of appreciation.

  43. bebereader said

Pabuckie: Thanks! That was a really good article about David. I’m glad to see more of them cropping up lately.

  44. emmegirl said

Wow, great article and especially looove this,

“People say that David is kind, and generous, and that’s true. But you know, he’s one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. He is just so cool. Music motivates David, ignites his imagination and affects him emotionally. It is part of his identity, the creative and artistic side that he feels when he gets that tingling sensation.”

…”a voice that can take your soul on journey in song.”

    He is so cool!

how great to come back after a week’s vacation to your great video blog mashup, thank you!!!

I’ll even forgive you for not including my personal fave … his Toronto vlog! 😆

I love them all, of course, but when his eyes start darting around the room and he begins to ramble on and lose track of time … pure magic.

    hugs to all! <333

  46. blisskasden said

Pabuckie. great find. Finally, an article that completely and, without any reservation, depicts David correctly. The media has been lagging behind in “getting” David. This article is a giant step in the right direction.

Thanks for sharing this with us. I love reading the truth about David.

  47. embe said

@jenleighbarry Happy to do that and please tell your friends. We have been getting calls from all over —just got a call from Finland.

Oh that’s so cool!! I feel speshuul 🙂

Thank you everyone for confirming my thoughts on the “trust” issue. I’m just really cautious about stuff like this, ’cause like I said I have been robbed twice. Right now there’s someone in Russia buying drugs with my driver’s licence 😛 They tend to do that.

  48. djafan said

    Good morning all!

Tofan, I have a favorite Toronto clip too! I missed it when putting together!
I have added and re-uploaded. I have updated the links too.

New Song from Nashville… bound to be a hit!

  50. Angelica said

Emi, is this a demo from someone of a song that David has been recording for his album? Can’t see cause at work.

  51. bebereader said

Emifriend#49 Very moving song with the recurring phrase “Don’t give up..”, including photos, depicting the situation in Nashville. Thanks for sharing.

Angelica: It’s not one of David’s songs. Since you can’t see it from work, here is a note from the singer/songwriter Victoria Banks, from youtube:

“..”victoriabanks1 — May 06, 2010 — I wrote this song on the road home to Nashville during the historic flooding that happened a few days ago. Lives were lost, many have lost everything and are living in shelters. Please donate what you can to the Nashville Red Cross at (615) 250-4300 or”

  54. goodkarmaseeker said

Just gotta come in here and say that I’m about ready to burst if we don’t get a song soon! I’ve been just kind of irritated lately and I know that it’s because I’m stifled without the anticipated new David music. Without all the great articles, pictures, the awesome vlog compilation and entries here and wherever I can find them, I’d be on antidepressants (I think I’m closer to them every day of waiting).

  55. Emi said

Sorry Angelica (and anybody else who thought I meant a new song from David!) That was not very nice of me-I’ll be more explicit next time.. 🙂 Emifriend

“There are many fans out there who find it difficult or impossible to get the book, either because it will not be available in their country and they cannot afford the high cost of buying it online and get it shipped to themselves, or even if it will be sold at their local bookstores, the price still exceeds their budget.”

Djafan #63. Thank you so much for those screen caps. When I saw the 30 still shots side by side it reminded me of something William Carlos Williams (American Poet & Pediatrician) wrote:

“It was the love of love, the love that swallows up all else, a grateful love, a love of nature, of people, of animals, a love engendering gentleness and goodness that moved me and that I saw in you.” -William Carlos Williams

I posted the screen shots at AFS so more could enjoy – credit to you and The Voice, of course. 😀

Thanks Djafan – what a feast of expressions & joy!
