Pushing Back

Posted by djafan on Thursday, April 29, 2010

Exhibiting more poise and confidence than we have ever seen and with a hint of shadow low-lighting a more angular jaw, David Archuleta talked with Ryan Seacrest recently about fame.  He may have been painfully shy for his own sake as a youth, but all that has given way to an overriding concern for others and a growing awareness that talent, demure charm and a winning smile are not sufficient gear to navigate safely the perilous music industry.  People’s careers, reputations, and a great deal of hard work and money are on the line and he is evidencing a steely determination to be up for the challenge.

In fact, David Archuleta appears to be up for almost any challenge as he moves into adulthood.  The confidence he has acquired on stage  is spilling over into other areas.   Anyone who has sat, (please) stood, in the amen section and witnessed a live performance of his in the past year can testify of this abundance of confidence:  his cup runneth over.

He is a fascinating mixture of so many things in one.  There is the joyful child, the passionate, romantic crooner, the sassy, sexy, flirt with the piercing gaze, the frugal, methodical, disciplined worker, the stubborn, loyal family man, the unashamedly devout man of God.

David Archuleta is all this and more.  Working nearly non-stop since completing several tours here and abroad, he has become a rather prolific writer too.  He has written a soon to be released book, “Chords of Strength-A Memoir of Soul, Song, and the Power of Perseverance” and has co-written almost every song on his upcoming album, both of which he hopes will reveal more of himself.

He is pushing through the barriers of innuendo and speculation and  allowing us to see who he really is.  When the layers are at last peeled away we may just see that who he is not, is anybody’s fool.
