When David first sang “Imagine”, my musical senses were awakened from a deep sleep that may have been going on since the end of The Beatles era. The lines of the song go over and over in my mind as they relate to my thoughts about David’s most recent performance on American Idol. David singing “Imagine” once again on American Idol, was a new beginning for David and for us. We have waited somewhat patiently during this time to see him on a stage that seems comfortably like home to him and to ourselves. Watching David perform at the piano, tapped into our souls and took us to places that only David can take us. No one song generally can be trusted to move us every time, but David’s singing moves me every time. The excitement felt by fans the world over was euphoric and for the next several hours, thousands of people sent their messages of excitement and approval of what they had seen and heard.
When David performs he lets go and allows his music to come through him rather than trying to control the performance, then absolute magic happens. His music evokes excitement in us that urges us to move our feet and get up and dance. The song that bests showcases this excitement is Zero Gravity as performed in Westbury. The band, his stage crew and all of the fans broke out into an amazing group dance. David’s music wakes us up to know the truth about ourselves as it has a way of stirring our senses, of tapping into parts of ourselves unlike anything else. Songs like ‘Zero Gravity’, can be an energy boost lasting for hours to get the listener through any day or night.
There is a power of sound that is called chanting. In chanting, there is a repetition of a single phrase, slogan, etc. rhythmically and insistently. Repetitiveness has the goal of deepening our spiritual lives, whatever they may be, or at the very least, helping to bring peaceful feelings into our beings. I use as my example the song that we have called “The Howl” but I like it as “The Call”. I have little explanation of why I have feelings about this video other then it seems to be a call through to nature. Thank you Abrra for taking these few bars of music and repeating them, giving us a chant. Listen closely and feel yourself connected to the voice celebrating the human spirit, as it soothes the nerves and induces peace and calm.

It can be difficult to actually explain to someone who doesn’t need music in their lives what it’s like to be without music for great lengths of time. It is more difficult to explain how David’s music fills the infinite between him and us. We are the ones who have been moved to laughter and to tears. We have grown; we have acquired a patience that we did not have. Through David, we have learned how to be more in tune with the music and musicians of the world. Finally, with great excitement, we are ready for David’s next phase in his new era of music. In David’s own words, “I want to show people that I’m in a new phase right now. It’s a new time for me!”.

I may like another artist, like another song but no one MOVES ME the way David’s voice does. Thank you. It’s like he sings with his soul, and his heart but it’s almost like it’s not even singing? If that makes any sense.

Love your insights about the tradition of chanting and that haunting wailing thing David chills us with … I’m with SF, I could listen to it all day, as well.
My favourite part was this: “When David performs he lets go and allows his music to come through him rather than trying to control the performance, then absolute magic happens.” Many reviewers and other singers have commented on his vocal control (which technique-wise, of course, he’s mastered) … but yes, it is this “letting go” that truly sets him apart, in his music and daresay, in his life.

SB, what a wonderful, Monday morning this is now that I have read and re-read your post! It’s wonderful!! You have put into words what we feel in a masterful way. It really is as though the music comes from his inner soul, and that is what is so magical about David. He is not trying to control anything other than his feelings about his music, but those feelings have control over us whether he intends it or not. We end up feeling what he is feeling (that’s a lot of feelings in two sentences!). It’s like ‘the call/the howl’ pulls us into the inner sanctum of David’s soul so that we are ready for the words and music that he will be delivering in a few bars. He prepares us, (very kind of him) before he reels us into that zone where he goes.
It’s a good thing we’ve had this small introduction to the ‘new phase’ this last few days. We probably couldn’t take it all in at once–new hair, single, book, album. I’ve a feeling that David has more up his sleeve than we can even imagine. Bring it on, but make the seat belt call!

SB- sitting here w/ the bracelet you gave me. It’s another tie to the voice. I mentioned on TDC that when David sings or does something wonderful (Jonah) my heart expands. I’m told that’s a blessing and it’s true. All I know is that it wasn’t there til 2 years ago and my energy level and sense of humor have leapt upward. I owe so much to David and his music, David and his gifts, David and his selfless personna that I can only thank him from my heart and soul. It helps to know that so many others everywhere feel the same. I think we will read in his memoir that he knows all this to be true and it’s why he’s here.

I noticed this very thing in Imagine 3.0. Rather than just sing the lyrics, it seemed liked the lyrics flowed out of him with little effort on his part. It’s like his body is filled with music and he has no choice in the matter. He must sing to let out what is inside of him.

Hey y’all! Nice to be home for a little while with internet connection. Will be gone again this weekend. Sis is home. Up and about with no pain 4 days post 5 bypasses! Thanks again for all the petitions to the Man Upstairs. It appears He heard you loud and clear. She received several blessings from LDS men in the Church in her area and I’m sure that was a major factor in a recovery that is nothing short of miraculous. Still very day by day but thanks for caring and keeping the faith!

Your article got me to thinking about this performer/musician/singer/songwriter/philosopher David Archuleta. What I was thinking is that there is so much THERE, there…low key but enormously powerful emotion, (Imagine) energy and excitement, (Zero Gravity) chant-like mesmerizing wailing, (the totally from his gut HOWL) vivacious, sensuous Latin rhythm and romance and I could go on and on. And we have no idea what he’s bringing with the new CD. And wrap your head around this…

To my core, I feel the emotion and joy that David is transmitting when he sings. Performing in Westbury was a particularly hard time to remain in the moment for David. I watched him be the butt of shenanigans by his crew as he did his music. He was, amazingly, able to keep the lyric and pitch as they erupted around him in glee! What poise he had that night. Performance skills that will continue to be refined as we go forward.

For my money, his rendition of “Love Me Tender” is the single greatest performance in the history of the show. So…David is in NY? He’s collaborating with still more song writers? I’m not really that surprised as I knew his album could not be finished yet, not even close. I just felt it would take much longer than 2-3 months. Maybe we’ll have the first single soon, but maybe not. It’s not easy getting into David’s head I’m sure. He has too much going on in that beautiful head. He has worked with such a diverse group of writers, it’s really difficult to even guess what musical direction he’s taking with the album. I said this before and I repeat..as much as I want new music by David, I want David to take his time, not feel pressured or rushed to get the album out before it’s exactly what David wants it to be.
Anyway, I hope he has a very productive week in NY, and also has time for some fum as well…

And Bliss I hope you do run into David this week. I am going to run into him at Trader Joes in Nashville sometime, I just know it. And you are so totally right about the city feeling different when you know David’s in town–there is just a little more hope and excitement everywhere – it’s really uncanny and almost weird but i think we have al felt that. I am so happy that David loves Nashville.

Have you ever seen a baby get tickled by something and erupt repeatedly with this huge spontaneous, totally uncontrollable giggle over and over when shown the same thing? That was me after a long, stressful day at work when I came home and watched that vid of David with Jonah. The little boy was adorable doing the faaaaaace! but what got my funny bone every time was the look on David’s face. The crinkled nose grin he had watching Jonah begin to hunkerdown and wail and the subsequent falling out laughing when he actually did it. I think I’ve watched it a least 30 times, without sound, but the view is more straight on and you can see his expression and it is priceless.
I don’t know when I have laughed so hard and it felt so good! After the past week and a rough day at work it was just the medicine I needed. How does he have the ability to turn my whole world around in 15 seconds? Every feeling he feels is pure distilled elixir of emotion and it makes me giddy and that is just one reason I love David so much.
I hope Jonah is blessed with health and all his days are brighter because his wish this day came true. I know every day I am blessed because a dream came true for me when David walked into my living room and smiled and nothing has been the same or ever will be again. I love the beauty of his voice, and soul and his incredibly loving heart.
He just makes me happy.

Jonah Gomez
Jonah Gomez is a beautiful four year old boy. He has Sickle Hemoglobin D disease and Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency. He is the only known person to have both diseases. He also has a heart condition, Supravalvular Pulmonary Stenosis. He has received over 39 blood transfusions in his short life. He needs a transfusion almost every 6 weeks and may need a stem cell transplant.
His mother, Jessica Kasparian Gomez was the student body president at Taylorsville High School in 1990. Together with friends, family and local businesses we hope to raise money to offset their medical bills.

Shontelle Layne headed to NYC. Duet, hmmm? I think it would actually give David more street cred (did I just say that?)than say, Jordin (and I do love Jordin!) Shontelle has a more R&B vibe from what I’ve heard. She adores David.
Whoever it is, I imagine they chose someone he is comfortable with and wants to collaborate with – which will result in killer duet performances and videos.

His new cd will be released in the weeks following the single…but we wonder when?.
We have no idea of a tour date yet, but possibly in 3 or 4 months…or more or less.
David will be in New York in June to see his fans and sign books…and that will be exciting!
Bliss has mentioned going to the book signing on June 1st…and that is so great.
Time for a gettogether as in a brunch or dinner or a walk in the park or anything at all…and thinking about it more of course when we have the complete schedule…

Dear Dakgal…I have watched the next two videos and as a matter of fact I saw the General Hospital episodes that included “Mad World” done by Adam. Some of his songs are very good such as the song “Mad World”. The song is haunting and quite memorable, used in telling about the mysterious, sad and bad lives of some people.

I have not read Adam’s biography and I have only seen a couple of his performances, so I am speaking about his musical attributes. It can be expected that AI will be making more of Adam than David because a good percentage of audiences like noise and flashy personalities in general so they will make noise! We know how the entertainment industry has been with David already and perhaps soon they will full well understand who he is. Maybe it will happen in another country that we see David honored and adored as he should be.
I am not going to like what I may see, but I think that they gave David a cool response last week and that has been the time of disappointment. David’s performance of “Imagine”, was the opportunity for them to recognize him for who he is and they did not. I am not personally an advocate of Adam’s and I may always be worlds apart from Adam the person.
Take heart, David’s time is very near.

WOW, thanks, dja. I’ve listened to that interview but watching gives another dimension to his growth. He has his priorities so straight. I love the way he cares about every member of his family and I feel certain that for David that will never change, no matter how famous he gets.

Great find, dja! The visual adds so much intregrity to the interview. David is smarter than most his age, smart enough to understand that some things are more important than career, in his case, family. Sadly I don’t think many teens his age believe this idea.

Bebe,#78, Not surprised at all about the info Baron of Music received from JIVE. I doubt even David knows the exact date the album will drop, or even which song will be the single or when IT will be released. He’s still working, collaborating, & recording songs. Seems like he’s getting an average of one or two songs from each collaboration and of course not every song will make the album. I do believe David will have major input as to which songs ultimately make it on the album and will fight to get the songs HE wants. I really think he will not be swayed into accepting a song for the album simply because it may “sound like a hit” if it’s not right for him and what he want’s to convey with this album. I do not think there will be any compromises with this album. 😉
Like David, I am not a fan of being unable to fall asleep…but I’m gonna try now, so..

David is on a roll and after watching that Seacrest interview I’m with SF, David will be having major input on this album and probably in a lot of other areas of his career. Truth be told it’s seems to me that he is getting the support he deserves so far. We’ll see what Azoff does with the promo of David.
