Monday morning,  Feb. 22.  Twitter home page.  Lots and lots to read.  Scrolling down.

Wait!    What.  is.  this?!

8:31 am Feb. 22 on Twitter
Mike Krompass would love to see @DavidArchie fans at the @DavidOsmond1 concert! Get tix here: http://bit.ly/bGjQSr.

What?  Mike Krompass will be at David Osmond’s album release concert!  (Heart is racing!)  Where is it?  The Covey Center, right here in Provo, Utah?!  This could be a possibility!  Okay, when is it?  Monday, March 1.  Dang it!  My husband works Monday nights!  Okay, there has to be a way to make this work.  I better make a phone call.

ME:  How do you feel about going to David Osmond’s concert next Monday night?  It’s in Provo, so we wouldn’t have to travel to SLC.”
HUBBY:  “I work Monday nights, remember.”
ME:  “I know, but couldn’t you trade with someone?  I really want to go, and the tickets are on sale now.”
HUBBY:  “Let me see if John will switch with me.  I’ll check with him tomorrow.  He’s not working today.”
ME:  (panic rising)  “But, the tickets are on sale now and I don’t know how fast they will go and there are some really good seats right NOW and If I have to wait until tomorrow they will probably all be gone!!”
HUBBY:  “OK!  Go ahead and get them.  I’ll work something out.”

Alright then.  Call the Covey Center.  Purchase the tickets–Mezzanine, front row, center.  Awesome.  Relax.  Aagh!!

So, that’s how that Monday morning went.  It certainly wasn’t a typical Monday morning.  Neither was the rest of the day.  I was sure that my day at work was never going to end.  It was like busting it out to “Zero Gravity” all morning, and then stopping dead still for “To Be With You” during the afternoon.  David can start and stop like that and it looks great, but it’s just a frustration to me.  I wonder if he ever gets his soft, beautiful downy, feathers ruffled and wonders how things are going to work out?  So, the afternoon dragged on forever!  My husband got his work arrangements taken care of (after some reminders from me), so everything was set for March 1.

Monday, March 1st.  My heart was racing.  Why am I so excited?!  I have never been an Osmond fan.  What is my deal here?  Oh yeah, silly me, Mike Krompass, Alex Rowe and Drew Steen are going to be there.  So, yes, I’m going to David Osmond’s album release concert mainly to see the guys in the band.  Weird.

Arriving at the Covey Center, we started towards the will call ticket window.  My husband bee-lined for it in a straight path, but I’m gawking around looking for some familiar faces.  Heart stop!!  There’s David Osmond!  He’s out in the crowd mingling on the other side of the lobby.  My gosh, he is tall!!  And might I add, Osmond good-looking.  Then when I turned around to focus on getting the tickets, there was MomJulee and her husband.  We exchanged some hello’s and small talk.  They are such nice people to be around.  But, then, they are David Archuleta people, and aren’t they the best kind of people to be with?  We’ve all learned, or are learning still, to be better people than what we were two years ago.

Throughout the evening, I couldn’t help but remember how we fell in love with David’s band members.  How well they all worked together for David.  It was so amazing to see how these professionals come together here and there and make it work for the artist they are working for at that moment.  I wondered if some day David will have his “own” band?

David Osmond

David O sang well, he interacted with the audience well, but it just wasn’t The Voice that makes my heart skip beats and sometimes all but stop.

As the evening at the Covey Center ended I was really thankful that we had gone.  On the way home, I casually commented to my husband that Richard Parkinson has a musical group that plays around the Salt Lake Valley, and I might want to check it out sometime.  He  bristled a little and stated, “I don’t really want to start following all of these people around just because they know David Archuleta!”

Ding! Ding! Ding! Wrong answer!

I reminded him that if I hadn’t been aware of Mike, Alex, and Drew because of David we wouldn’t have gone to the David Osmond’s concert and discovered that we admire his talent and I refreshed his memory on why we went to Kurt Bestor’s Christmas concert which I also reminded him he really enjoyed and declared he wants to go again and it was all because his name surfaced in my head last year because of David’s “Christmas From the Heart” album and I further reminded him (like he can ever forget) of my undying admiration for David Archuleta and the good things that he does constantly for those around him and that it just really doesn’t hurt us to support other people by showing up at a concert or gig to see what they are all about and I then reminded him that Richard did quite a bit of arranging and producing on David’s Christmas album which I brought to his recollection he really loves so much that did I need to remind him how he saw to it that three of the CD’s were gifted to his co-workers?

With memory fully restored, he conceded and we drove home in a state of wedded bliss.  😆

Where would we be if David Archuleta had decided against auditioning for American Idol?  I would still be grumpy most of the time because I didn’t have a young man with a velvet voice singing and tweeting and blogging about life and showing by example how to live in harmony with the Universe.

1st Prize for the world’s longest sentence!

Thank you for sharing your evening in Provo. I have a particular fondness for all the band mates who have helped David along the way. While at 2 CFTH concerts last winter, I was simply amazed at the depth of musical talent on stage. David needs no band to create the magic, but it sure spices up a tune here and there. 😉 I gained a new respect for the drummer, Drew. He had many tasks to do whilst still keeping the beat going.I believe I counted 3 or 4 other percussion instruments he had to “chime” in with at just the precise moment.

I count you as one of my Utah buddies, even though we have never met face to face. How I envy that you live in the new Hub of the Universe.

My dream is to have a David Conference where we can all gather with David, the writers he works with, his tour team and ALL his musicians in a dinner/theater style show. Your hubby will surely go for that! You are so on the money about how David teaches us to expand our choices in music. Had he not given us songs of the day, would we have ever known the artists he mentions? I will go to iTunes and give David Osmond some support.

Thank you for a good read, Tawna.

Oh Tawna I enjoyed the heck out of your story! I was laughing at one point and my sister heard me. I think she thinks I’ve completely lost it. ehh.

You have a delicious way of telling this story. And then how you delivered in that one GINORMOUS sentence. That’s when I busted out laughing.

“With memory fully restored, he conceded and we drove home in a state of wedded bliss.” You are a very wise woman and your husband is smart to listen. I am still laughing.

    Please share again.

LOL, very nice work, on the piece and on the hubby!

Love this little excerpt on Somos El Mundo:

At 46 sec “and was moved to tears when he first heard THIS”…. and then you hear David’s beautiful 2nd solo. Coincidence?

Can anyone tell what Emilio says to David after the hug?
I hear “so beautiful, my God, you..??”
His voice kind of tales off and it is tough to make out.

This all makes my giddily happy!

Ram, I love that little excerpt too! Around 46 sec, talking about Quincy Jones hearing the spanish version.. “and was moved to tears when he first hears THIS…” and then you hear David’s beautiful second solo. Coincidence?

Can anyone tell what Emilio says after the hug? It tales off at the end… “so beautiful, my God, you..???”

    This all makes me 🙂

    … and then there’s this morning’s tweet.

David has either spoiled us or washed out our ears with his beautiful voice that now everyone else just “sings well” lol
And what an example he is.

Betsy thanks for posting his quote from this morning…

    When I was 19
I wasn’t thinking about loving others, devoting myself to community or creating anything other than a great outfit for the next frat party. And I was a pretty good kid! And Here David is… He has demonstrated all of these things in two years, and inspired others to do the same.

CS Lewis, I think, once wrote about great people and how the thing that draws us to them are the things they point to… .not themselves necessarily, but what they represent. He said if we exclusively draw to the person’s self, we make them idols and then, over time, we destroy them.

David keeps pointing and pointing to the higher paths in life,,, to all that is good and noble and pure and strong. And then he actually takes those paths. And in that, I think he becomes more of a leader than an idol. We are all watching so closely just to see how he will amaze us with the light of truth and goodness next. The fruits of the Spirit ( as outlined in the Bible) are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness and self control. David is a feast, filled to overflowing, with an economy of plenty for everybody.

And all of it is here for everybody. Here for the taking. Here for me. We can. David empowers us by his examples. We see it in all the stories that are told here, and we empower one another by telling. It’s like a book I never want to quit reading, but I want to keeo turning the pages fast just to find out what happens next!

Twana, thanks for telling your story in such a fun way. I loved this line: “With memory fully restored, he conceded and we drove home in a state of wedded bliss.” May your wedded bliss continue!

    Emi, wow, love every word.

I truly hope to see more young people use him as an example somewhere in there lives. I sometimes worry that they might find it hard to relate to him because he is, but isn’t, your average teen. You can’t follow or listen to someone that you don’t relate to. Hoping they will find it in these songs he is writing, because he has so much to say and so much to give.

I have had some feedback about how teen girls relate to David. They see him as someone to emulate. A standard by which they measure the boys they consider dating. Alas, some will not measure up. Will not be as kind and considerate of others as David demonstrates. The boys who “get” him look to him as an inspiration. They strive to hone the personal qualities of humility and service to others. I was struck by how many young males were at the VIPs I attended. Spending time actually talking to teens was a pleasure. Maybe it was a biased group, but in my opinion it was a great place to start the dialog. They really like that he is strong in his personal standards. He is the ‘new cool’.

Unfortunately, my assumptions are based on the popularity of some of the “flashier”, shall we say, ones out there today – and then I worry… and then I tell myself he is too talented not to be insanely successful and that I am crazy to worry.

Thanks to you I am feeling more reassured that he is appreciated and understood, and will eventually get to where he is suppose to be, wherever that is. He really is a child of destiny.

I saw earlier where you all were talking about a teens perspective on David and whatnot. I’m a fifteen year old girl and have been following David since the begining. I remember at first during idol when all of my friends started to discover my “obsession” as they called it they called me crazy and made fun of me for liking “the kid on AI” and even went as far as voting agaist him just to pick a fight with me. Well eventually over the course of a few months many of my friends began watching the show, tuning in just to see “emily’s boy” , and they slowly but surely fell for him. If it wasn’t his angel voice that got em it was his adorable face and sweet as sugar personality..or all of it haha.

After idol they began hearing me squeal over every single stop on the idol tour then over the meeting him experience. I remember them all group texting me and calling one after the other that first time I met him in Columbus, OH. That was the very first time I had ever seen him in person and they were all soo excited for me. Everyone wanted to see pictures the second I got home ..and they suure did.

Then after the album debut I started seein more and more of his songs..if not all of then appearing on all my friends i-pods. They started actually asking what David was up to, or to “hear that one song again” cause they all began to pick their favorites on the cd and I was in love with the fact of my friends all becoming fans. I now have become a pro.. I can convert almost anyone to a David fan with my collection of songs, s,and pictures on my handy dandy i-pod.

One thing I’ve found is that guys who at first wouldn’t even let me mention his name are now talking good about him.. getting his song on their i-pod and seeing who he really is. At first they made fun for his humble modest personality, but they’re now begining to see and respect him. One of my guy friends who is like my brother now has his intire CD, Christmas CD’s, and his personal favorite Somebody Out There. 🙂

Me and my girl friends now use David as a model for guys. When rating a guy he’s either “davidish” or “David would soo not approve”. And when shopping a “where’s david with his sharpie” outfit is definately a no no.

So in a teens eyes David definately sets the bar. He gives us a clear image of the type of guy we want, and he makes MODEST HOTTEST! 🙂

  24. David’s fashion sense – this has been on the tip of my tongue for a while. I think he’s ahead of the trend. He wore graphic tees and a scarf before anyone. His jeans (rocker jeans) were ahead of the trend, as well. His jackets (Imagine in finale) are everywhere in the stores. And the plaid… has anyone noticed how BIG plaid is these days? I love the plaid jacket he wore at the Mint. Found one like it at the Gap for my 2yo grandson. Of course, those shoes (esp. the converse) are so mainstream these days. He has great fashion sense, though he would prefer to be a cartoon character & wear the same clothes everyday. Lol, now that I hope never happens.

I got my husband and son tickets to the Christmas show. David, his voice, and the power and spirit of that evening proved to be such a revelation to them. David live, did more to make them understand than all my explanations or you tubes ever have. I learned this, seeing David live gives new understanding to someone who only casually likes him. My son even said, “his voice actually gave me chills a couple of times Mom!”
“David O sang well, he interacted with the audience well, but it just wasn’t The Voice that makes my heart skip beats and sometimes all but stop.” I totally agree. There is just something that our David has that is so rare and hard to define or explain. He has that, “chill” factor.

It only took that one live performance for him to understand why I feel the way I do about David and his talent. He still grumbles at times about my ODD, but he’s much quicker to give in and accompany me places.

Thank you Emmegirl and Stenocruiser for the link to the new Idol Chatter interview. Is this the same person who was a contestant on American Idol? He looks the same, basically; his voice sounds the same, basically, but it’s clear that he has grown tremendously in the last two years and is now showing a new dimension to his personality, one that was probably always there but not ready to emerge until now. I’m blown away. David doesn’t sound like a 19 year old; he is way beyond his years. He speaks with the courage of his convictions:

“….wrote a song called Nervous. ‘It’s about going ahead and doing it, even if you’re scared,’ David says. ‘The main thing is, ‘So what if I’m nervous?’ Sometimes you have to take those risks, and sometimes you’ll be nervous, but why should that be an excuse? Some things, you need to do that way. And sometimes those are the most fulfilling things in life.'”

    and

“‘I decided if people want to know who I am, they need to know this about me, this part of my life and how important it is to me and how it has affected my decisions, how I view things, and why I am who I am.'”

So sorry about the double post above…they don’t always go through and then I have to try and remember what I was trying to say.

bebereader – those interviews are absolute gems. I love it when he gets a little sassy!

Yeah, there is more to the Archulator than meets the eye. He is pretty terrific, isn’t he… think we are going to looove this album. He is working as hard, not only for himself but for his fans.

Thanks for the responses, this is such a friendly site. 🙂 I love spreading the word about David to my friends and others too! David, the musician and the person, makes it easy to be a fan. And this new Mansfield interview…gahhh…I love it! He is so confident now. He has always had the conviction to do what he knows is right for him, but now he seems more comfortable sharing it with the world. Can’t wait for this new CD and book (is it June 1st yet?)

Oh, and Tofan, we know there is only one David, so “Davidish” is the best we can hope for, haha.

Abrra, I am really enjoying that CD, thanks again.

Emmegirl, I hope we soon have some concerts so we might run into each other! emily

After reading the interviews with Idol Chatter, I am seriously even more in love with David Archuleta. Any notions of a cooling of feeling for this young man are totally banished.
I can’t even describe how reading those quotes made me respect him more, such depth and maturity! Then the final comment about going to a pancake place, well that’s just our David isn’t it?
    Totally awesome!

Hey guys! Been away a while working on something this weekend but have been in lurker mode keeping up with all the great comments.

Tawna, love this article! Maybe one day I can get my husband to a David concert. Then he might better understand how a woman who will bend on many issues, is as immovable as iron on this one. My ODD is a force to be reckoned with and he reckons he’ll just take solace in the serenity prayer…“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” Maybe they need to start a support group for husbands of ODD’ers, like AL-anon. 😆

emilyluvsarchie, thanks for giving us a teen’s perspective. It gives me so much hope for the future just knowing young people like you exist. That’s a big reason I love David so much. In a jaded world he’s not afraid to “Choose the Right.”
God bless you for being the change you want to see.

I am absolutely wasted by that Idol Chatter interview. He is one smart, classy, gutsy guy.

    Hello all!

Been away with family functions! I’m very blessed! Then I get online and see these two out of this world articles that brought me to tears! So much insight to who “David” the person is, makes me love him even more! Angelica, wasted indeed!

Posting Silverfox’s prayer while she’s away and in case he is traveling.

Good night all, and for David..

    Dear Lord,

    Please take care of David.
Watch over him, protect him from all harm.
Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path.
Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give.
Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him unconditionally as we, his devoted Archangels do.
Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being.
Give him rest when he feels weary.
Give him stamina to sustain his hectic pace.
Give him assurance when he feels doubt.
Give him joy when he feels sad and never allow David to feel alone or lonely.
Give us the wisdom to ALWAYS DO RIGHT by David.
Help us support David so that it’s ALWAYS IN HIS BEST INTERESTS.
CLOAK DAVID IN YOUR PROTECTIVE ARMS always and please keep David and his voice healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.
Though we may be unworthy Lord, we humbly pray. Amen

David, have a good & restful night’s sleep with sweet & happy dreams. Thank you for all you do and for who you are. Keep with you all our love, support & prayers always. Contigo siempre! We will be with you always! TAKE CARE!

The Pancake Pantry is a famous Nashville restaurant where one goes to have breakfast or lunch served by ancient waitresses who call you “hon” and greet you with hot coffee the second you sit down. It’s near MUSIC ROW ( Near FIDO too actually), and so it is rare to go there and not see “SOMEBODY” in the biz, if not a few “SOMEBODIES.” The last time I went there with an out of town guest-it’s been a few years, the Dixie Chicks sat at the table next to ours. The weekend lines to get in are usually over an hour long…I’ve waited up to two and half hours to get in before but coffee and morning papers are available to those in line. It’s a very friendly place and the food is good– any kind of pancake you can imagine… I kept wondering if I should go there to try to run into David this week, so I am glad to know I can wait till next time. Now keep in mind, we don’t really talk to the stars in Nashville when we see them.. We can nod and smile at them if we catch eye contact, but it is not polite to impose. It would be very difficult to not speak to David tho so don’t go to Pancake Pantry if you have no self control!

Emily– I love hearing your story- and it gives me hope too, for our futures ( you guys will be providing care for us in our old age, ya know! ) David continually amazes me with his wisdom and strength of character in addition to his musical gifts and developed I talents. I love that he chooses to share “who he is” with us and that he really wants us to know him. I can’t really think of another artist that does that. Most artists have a theology to sell be it the gospel of inmodesty or modesty or the “Gospel of Christ” or the gospel of teenage angst or anti government sentiment but David isn’t really doing that so much as in wanting to share his whole self with us. He is so brave and sure about it ( in the article)and and it engenders such respect; I am certain he will keep our attention and inspire people for a long time. Isn’t it fun to cheer in his corner?!

Thanks Angelica for all you do! I’d love to have my husband talk to your husband and let him know that it is relatively painless to accompany you to a David concert. He just needs to sit back and enjoy the scenery–David, the band, and the screaming fans. I’m not a screamer, so he doesn’t have to cower in his seat and pretend not to know me–I do stand tho’ thru the whole thing (alot of that has to do with the fact that I’m so short I have to stand in order to see).lol! As a non-convert sits there, the music gradually pulls them in, and then they find themselves ‘watching’ David. Then, it’s all over. They are converted. It can’t be helped–it’s magical. ODD may not set in, but it let’s them see the what and why we are all the way we are.*sigh* Waiting. for. a. tour!!

    Tawna,

See, that’s a no work for me. I’m a screamer. I jump up and down and act a right FOOL! I can’t help it. Something comes over me and I’m not in control. But not during the slow songs. Then I’m as silent as the grave, mouth agape, eyes big as saucers. I forget to breathe. I am ONE with the Voice. I’m not in control of that either. No, on further reflection I think it’s best if my husband stays home. He would just cramp my style. 😆 😛 😉

Respect and admiration, he continues to leave me with my mouth wide open in awe of him.

    Tawna…

I’m torn between wanting my husband to go or not. I invite him every time with my fingers crossed behind my back praying he says no then feeling guilty for doing that. I’m so curious to see if he were to experience live David would it do the trick. The problem is like Angelica says, I become a complete fangirl at David concerts, he has never seen that and just might scare the heck out of him…lol So so far the not wanting him to cramp my style has won out…don’t know for how long though, he might say yes when I least expect it.

Angelica (AKA) strangerphilosophy…That is a wonderful video for all students to see everywhere. Even besides the video being about a Murray High School Music Scholarship, it is about David’s journey and that can be awesome for anyone to see. It is a lovely conpilation of pictures and some that I have never seen before.

I sincerely hope that this video of the challenges experienced in David’s journey will always be in view and as time goes by perhaps more can be added.

A few years ago we often went to see an NHL player play in several arenas throughout Canada and the US. He had met our son and then he invited us to his games etc. We came to know a familiar word that he used during his fabulous but hectic schedule…When he was back at home and totally relaxing meaning away from press or anyone but family and friends, he called it “downtime”…I like that, David is home for a few days on downtime…It is quite fine to have a few days of normal, hopefully quiet days of his own.
