Recently Abrra told me that Idol Forums was a gold mine for pictures and referred me to a photo there. It was before the Jordan Sparks concert, and I was feeling a little ready to see something, anything. Well, OK. I was desperately seeking David. David droughts are the worst aren’t they? I went to the picture thread on Idol Forums as instructed, looked at some very nice pictures that were recommended on page 1887. That’s one thousand, eight hundred and eighty-seven! Pages! LOL! Of course I was smiling, because David’s smile just makes you smile, but one of David’s pictures was just not enough. It’s kinda like chocolate or something. So like a true Archuchocoholic, I continued to look at more pages. I looked at 1887, 1886, 1885, and then…it happened. I was happily perusing David’s face in different settings when BAM! I saw IT. There, innocently smiling out at me from Jason’s wedding, was David wearing…WAIT. WHAT..IS..THAT??!! Could it be? Yes, I think it is! Let me make this bigger. . . YES!!!!! He was wearing the tie I had given him at the Salt Lake City VIP!!! OH MY GOSH!!!!! I stared, eyes bulging, heart pounding! Now I wasn’t just smiling, I was grinning RIDICULOUSLY! And I do mean ridiculously, like laughing out loud in my room like a fool, ridiculous. How did I miss that picture? In the pictures I had seen before that tie had looked black.

Thank you, for the Abrrakadabra magic that gave me this unexpected present. I owe her big time for sending me there. Now I know a lot of you have similar stories and hopefully a similarly ridiculously euphoric reaction. I would love to hear about them. I have a few favorite fan gifts that David looked awesome in that come to mind. There’s the vest that Julie from Idaho gave him that he wore at the Boise concert, Silverfox’s black shirt that he wore in Rockford….sigh. For the love of all that is good in this world, I ask you, where is that vest and that black shirt? I wish to see them again.

Dang, I know I have other favorites; maybe I need to go look at some more pictures, (purely for research of course.) Since he wore the same two outfits on the Christmas From The Heart tour, and now wishes to be a cartoon and wear the same thing everyday, seeing David wear something we gave him may be a thing of the past. I hope not. I felt a connection. However, *raises right hand in air* I solemnly swear to try to restrain myself the next time I walk by a shirt that screams David Archuleta and put the money toward a charity he supports.
David, thank you for the Voice, the heart, and all the joy you have given us since “Heaven.” You are such a gift to us and maybe that’s why we have this crazy, uncontrollable desire to buy gifts for you.

It was a teeny tiny tie people, and I gave it to him when he was at home for the night.

Thanks CB! I know Idolforums has a “treasure chest” of pics! It’s nice knowing David wears some of the things his fans give him. It shows how down to earth he really is by doing that — he really appreciates his fans! I’m soooo happy for you and can only imagine your reaction when you saw that pic!! 🙂
I just saw this video of David from the We The Kings Concert the other night. Wow! Close up he glows even more — too bad the audio is so hard to hear! But, LOOK AT HIM GO!!

Cb…the pictures are awesome and the pic. with Jason and his new wife are among my favorites. Yes, his admireres do assist quite nicely in choosing some of his attire…I can imagine that he is so pleased to have those with a keen eye for fashion assisting him during his hectic tour schedule. He will tell about that sometime. I have said for a few months, while on tour with some of you, that we do what we do because it is the result of what he sings himself…”Let loving hearts adore him”, I think that this is how it came about…Just a little spiritual thought for a Sunday.

Thanks pabuckie for the WTK video. He was raring to go! Had to stop himself from busting a move a couple of times! Looks like he may be ready to really let go this next time around!! Can we even imagine? I hope he has atleast one fast-paced rock-out song on his next tour. You can tell he loves it when the crowd gets going!

I didn’t get him an article of clothing. I will never find out if he used what I gave him. He had been complaining about his hair (summer tour), so I bought him some Axe hair products. (which now seems strange & oddly too personal – i wouldn’t do it again!)

I am not ashamed to admit that one of the moments that made me deliriously happy was when I noticed that David was wearing the Michael Jackson “Thriller Dance” t-shirt I gave him to the VIP in Grand Rapids, MI. When I walked into room, looked up, and saw the color of the shirt, I thought my eyes were deceiving me. I could hardly breathe, then my friend said, “Isn’t that the shirt you gave David?”, and I had “confirmation”. I can’t tell you how it feels to see him wearing something that you put a ton of thought into choosing…something that you lovingly wrapped with high hopes that he would somehow appreciate the significance of the gesture you were bestowing upon him. I was speechless, but my friend in her exhuberance hollered, “David, you’re wearing the shirt my friend here gave you”, and he looked at me, apparently recognizing me from the Milwaukee VIP, and said, “Yeah, you’re Joni, I remember you from the last time we met.” *thud* And to top it all off, when they put the picture of him on Snarkies wearing my shirt (because the place I bought it from was having a “sale”) the shirt SOLD OUT by the end of the day! :))))

Very nice article, CB. In my opinion, David doesn’t really have “fans”, in the usual sense. He has an extended family, so wearing clothes or other items given to him is a very natural gesture. Whether he gets something from a relative at Xmas or his birthday, or from someone who attends a VIP, it feels pretty much the same to him, and he appreciates it the same way by wearing it.
We’ve all been to David’s concerts. When David takes the stage, it’s more like he is walking into a living room full of friends and family. This is why when he has his mother, or his aunt, or his friend on the stage with him, it feels right to everybody. And sometimes, a friend, who happens to be his tour manager, might barge into a song and screw around with David and the rest of his friends, just to goof around, and That’s Ok with everybody too. When HE is the guest onstage, it’s as if he just rang the front door bell, and found out there’s a party going on, and joined in the fun. That’s when the real fun begins-when David shows up.
Abrra, loved the Elvis video. David needs to get used to comparisons with Elvis, because, whether he knows it yet or not, he IS the next Elvis.

Oh to see David wear one of my gifts…hasn’t happened yet. The whole gift thing, why do I feel this desire to buy him something? Walk the mall three times to make sure it screams “David would like this” at me…crazy but I did it. I had a close call, remember the shiny buckle? I thought it was the charm on a chain I gave him but it was not to be. I made the mistake of giving him size medium shirts…well I still have hope, he’s growing and doing all that PX90 workouts.

Thrilled? Yes! That is one way to describe how I felt when I saw David wearing a shirt I gave him. The FIRST time. The second time I was thrilled & in disbelief. The third time, & the fourth & fifth..well, just say I was dumbfounded and deliriously happy that David actually likes what I pick out especially for him. I have given him one or two shirts almost each time I’ve seen him. Why, you ask? I don’t know. I just liked what I gave him and hoped he would too. I don’t even know if he KNOWS who’s gift he’s wearing. He gets so many shirts at each concert that I figure he doesn’t know most of the time. Like the t-shirt with the smileys he wore in Atlantic City & other times..I gave him that shirt months before in Albuquerque and I never dreamed he would wear it at a VIP months later. How could he possibly remember who gave it to him? But the black shirt he wore in Rockford was the most memorable for me because I gave it to him in Louisville, my home town and he wore it the next night. It confirmed to me that he did in fact take the time, no matter how little time he had between gigs, to go through his gifts & read the cards & letter from his fans. It made me adore him more and admire him as the thoughtful person he is.
Then to top it off..he sang on of my favorite songs for the first time..while wearing the shirt. 😀

Is this why the familiarity with David? And his fans? Being a fan of anyone for the first time I thought this was a common occurrence, but I’ve learned that it’s not, this feeling of knowing him and his fans continues to amaze me.

I’ve been enjoying all the posting and comments at The Voice since the beginning, but just never had time to post anything. Thank you to all for providing a place to have so much fun!
It has been a quiet weekend, and the topic of this thread made me delurk. I did briefly mention at SnowAngelz about the occasion David wore the shirt I gave him at the San Jose VIP during the summer tour last year. I’ll repeat the story in case you missed it, and added something I found out more recently that he actually wore it twice.
I put a “Post-it” note inside the pink shirt with tiny plaids and told him that “there was no need to press the shirt because it was supposed to have the wrinkle look (a quote from my son all the time :)). I also rolled up the sleeves and buttoned the straps for him. I wasn’t sure if he would wear the shirt (looked kinda small) and/or he would read the notes. He did both. These two photos speak for themselves. First one was from Larry King Live in December, and my heart did skip a beat when I saw him on Larry King. I found out later that he wore to the Kendra Lowe show back in September for the first time. He was hiding behind the piano singing TBWY at Kendra concert. From both photos below, you can tell that he took what was on the sticky very seriously ;-). I am so impressed that he really reads everything we give him. This is my first time to embed the photos, please accept my apology if it doesn’t work.

Very stylish post, cb. You all have given David some really great apparel, and I’m excited, as are you all, that he wears it. I’ve only given David one gift, and it’s not one that can be worn, so I will never know it’s history or future. It really doesn’t matter to me.

cb David looked so handsome at Jason’s wedding and you are partly responsible! Your story was indeed a thrill to read as were all the stories from those who had the pleasure of seeing David wear their gifts. I can only imagine how it feels to see him wear something I bought him. The closest I came was when I was standing next to Silverfox at the Atlantic City sound check when she first noticed that David was wearing her smiley face tshirt. “I think that’s the shirt I bought him!! she announced, at first, until she confirmed that yes it most definitely was the shirt. I have yet to give David a gift and who knows if they will allow us that luxury anymore. I had his gift all ready to go for the Atlantic City show when, at the last minute the show was postponed until last fall when it became the last show on the tour and therefore not a convenient time to accept gifts from fans.
I’m enjoying all the We The King videos of David running across the stage a la rockstar! Hope his next cd includes a rock song or two. Looking forward to seeing him fly across the stage to one of his own songs.

Silverfox, when I heard the title of David’s “new ” song, it had a familiar ring to it. This is a lesser known, but outstanding song by Elvis in the post-army period. Thanks for posting this trip down memory lane. We’ve been waiting a lifetime to find a worthy heir to Elvis’ throne, but, in David Archuleta, we have hit the jackpot.

It was not apparent to me initially way back at the beginning of AI7 that David had all the attributes to become another Elvis. Not really. Not until his solo tour when he exploded and transformed before our eyes, starting with Sayreville when we were all shaking ours heads in wonder thinking “WHO IS THIS AND WHAT DO HE DO WITH OUR DAVID?” And I knew we were witnessing the emergence of a true IDOL, not seen or heard since Elvis.

What a great, insightful comment about David and his relationship with his fans. I think he’s more at home on stage than anywhere else and you can tell by these impromptu guest performances at nightclubs that he is raring to get back in the game. Can’t wait to be in that living room when he finally walks back in, grinning from ear to ear!

Angelica, I was a little hesitant to say how many he has worn as it sounds so…uh, I don’t know…like bragging I guess. But it IS such a thrill and this is what this thread is about right? In KC, I gave him a grey button-down shirt JUST LIKE the one he wore in Foxwoods for the Billboard Live concert. 😉 In Foxwoods, I gave him a black & red plaid shirt JUST LIKE the one he wore for the Haiti telethon. ;-). And a few others this last year. I really, really believe he does not always remember who gives him some of the clothes he wears which is OK with me. It gives me great pleasure just to see him wearing what I chose for him. 🙂
And we may never have the opportunity to give him gifts as in the past again. It really got to be too much for him and in future tours he may request no gifts. I always wonder if other artists receive gifts like David does, or is this another David phenomenon, this need some of us have to GIVE him gifts. It’s almost beyond our, or at least MY, control.

SF, although I never had the pleasure seeing Elvis perform live, i’ve seen many documentaries of his life, which include great footage of his concerts. At the end, when he was struggling on stage, and his appearance had deteriorated, the audience still adored him and suffered along with him, showing encouragement and support. It was a heartwarming sight, to say the very least.
David has already inspired this level of support and acceptance from his “extended family”. If he ties his laces on stage, we love him. If he has to leave the stage to blow his nose, we love him. If his throat is raspy, we do not feel cheated, and would just as well have him rest his voice altogether than strain it just to please us. There is no sense of “him there and fans here”. It’s always only “we”.
Elvis’ fans never wanted to leave. Pretty soon we will hear the announcement, “David has left the building” to get everyone to leave the venue.

I did have the pleasure of seeing Elvis perform live a few times, once on his world tour and twice in Las Vegas. Elvis wore his elaborate costumes but like David he didn’t need elaborate stages or lights.
If fact, when David transforms on stage and some of us wonder if he’s channelling someone..I think it may be Elvis, if you believe in such things. David has mentioned Elvis only once as far as I know..on AI when he sang Love Me Tender. But he wore an Elvis T-shirt twice depicting Elvis reaching for his fan’s hands, just like David does, for two performances which tells me he is a fan of Elvis’ even if he does not say so out loud…

Love this article and this site! You are all so right, it is sooo exciting to see David wearing something you chose for him. David used one of my gifts, but it wasn’t an article of clothing. He had been complaining about his allergies, so I gave him a netti pot!( I really worried about that one though, but I have allergy issues and they help me. haha) The next day he tweeted that he was using it! Also, I gave him 2 shirts at a VIP last summer. One was the bright blue and black plaid shirt he had on in the picture where he is reaching out to the little girl being held up by her dad. ( I know everyone has seen it, I don’t know how to imbed it here.) The other was a thin, v-neck black t-shirt that I bought to go with the plaid one. It had a pocket with a shiny material around the pocket. A few days after I gave it to him, I saw him in it at the Louisville acoustic show ( no pictures, sadly).What is it that makes us have this desire to buy him things? I’ve struggled because I know he gets too much, but then it doesn’t “feel” right if I don’t!

I have only given him chapsticks, a Dutch brand called Purol, (which works really well). I had given him one at the AI7 tour stop in Toronto> there is a vid of David with it in his armpit on the voice unplugged (yay abs). On Ford Day I tried to give him another but the security would not allow giftgiving. David was so sweet about it and actually remembered the one I had given him before, mentioning it by it’s brand name. I have since given him a few more, lol, makes me the Purol lady! haha~!

In those pics you can really see how swollen his right cheek was esp. in the 3rd one down. In both the top and bottom one he is covering his right cheek with the balloon card. I wonder did that hurt? He had to get antibiotics for it after, but he soldiered on for those children and gave us two amazing performances of No Air. (((David)))

I was thinking the same thing. “She’s Not You” does not sound like the kind of writing David is drawn to from what we know about the artists he admires. The Dolly Parton lyrics are more his style I think…more meaningful and introspective, like The Riddle. I’m thinking the song leak may be from the first album, not this one. It is generic, radio-friendly fare that could have been written for the Jonas Brothers are Justin Bieber.
He penned better songs at the age of 12 with “Falling” and “Don’t Tell Me.”
I’m not saying I don’t like it and he doesn’t sound wonderful. I’m saying I don’t think this is any indication AT ALL of what’s coming.

IMO, David is one breakout song away from Elvisdom. For my money, “Zero Gravity” could have been that song, but it was promoted poorly and never got the mainstream attention it deserved. I think it’s one of the best pop songs I’ve ever heard, and every time he performs it live, the joint goes wild. If ever there was a “chart topper”, “ZG” is it.
Not to worry. David is just getting started. My guess it’ll be this upcoming CD. He needs a song that will get the guys on board. American men are an insecure lot. Embracing a young, sweet, impossibly handsome, warmhearted male artist is a tough sell unless he can up with a song that they can relate to. I did notice, however, many men , of all ages, at the Xmas concerts I attended. Performances like We the Kings the other night help. Pictures like # 62 here don’t help (LOL).
Someone once said “Nothing is as unstoppable as an idea whose time has come”. This is David’s time. Watch David make it happen.

OMGosh! You can hear David two or three (4?) times during the song! The Spanish version IMO sounds better than the English version. All of these singers have beautiful voices! The first time I hear David’s voice is at 2:09 (THUD) and again at 4:20. I’m still trying to pinpoint the next time….(going back for another listen)

By the way even my 8 year old boy can recognise David’s voice. All I’ve told him, he had three solos. He was spot on, on each one. David has a very distinct voice, sultry and silky. You can listen to it 24/7.

What a beautiful video! Seeing David on my TV in my livingroom brought back memories of two years ago at this time, except now he is an accomplished professional singer/songwriter! *SPAZZ* David’s voice sounded glorious and he looked unbelievably handsome! The event was well put together! I don’t understand all the lyrics but I enjoyed this version better than the one in English. I’m so proud of David for taking part in such an important cause where his participation will be remembered for posterity.

Believe me when I tell you, ONLY THE BIGGEST LATINO STARS had more than one solo..AND David had three, count ’em…3, tres, even tho they were short as most of the solos were. He was fantastic, his voice so…velvety smooth like the creamiest chocolate. He sings with such feeling, such deep emotion. I am proud of myself. Yes I am! That I was smart enough two years ago to KNOW David was special and was going to make a mark in the music world, in the WORLD, period! Yes I was sooooooooo right on! I am so smart!
But this was NOT about the singers or David…yeah I have to keep reminding myself, but I am so DANG PROUD OF HIM!!
After watching the video, I know now why David wants to learn some Latino dances. Being around all those Latinos who are natural dancers..well obviously he didn’t know “The Rhythm Was Gonna Get Him” thanks to Gloria…I know, lame…heh!

This is RIDICULOUS! I’m over an hour late to work. WHY?
Why else? I can’t stop listening to YOU and the others on Somos El Mundo, that’s WHY! Makes me want to go to iTunes & buy some music of those awesome artists based only on their short solo performances!
So, my POINT, MR. Archuleta, is that many Hispanics/Latinos who also are thinking the same thing after seeing & listening to YOUR awesome self, will go to iTunes and not find anything in Spanish by David Archuleta. They will have to search YouTube. My next point is that now that YOU know you can hold your own & then some with the giants of the Latino music scene, I think you should add a Spanish song to your new album, AND possibly releasing said song as a single along with the other single..And it is imperative that your 4th album is a complete Spanish album. OK? Please?

I think it shows how much respect Emilio & Gloria Estefan have for David’s voice and his ability to perform under pressure and for David himself. Kudos to them for considering him as one of the Latino Elite.’—–that’s almost exactly what I said to my husband last night after I watched the DVR recording of the show.
I just can’t get enough of this song, and I don’t read or speak Spanish. Thanks for the translation dja, it helps ALOT! However, even not reading or speaking the language, I can feel the love coming from all these artists.

First, thank you for this site and for everything you do. Amazing talent among the contributors, so I visit every day. You are my friends; you just don’t know it. I love the unyielding and unabashed admiration for The Voice (and persona) of David Archuleta that I see here.
However, after recent events, including his latest sweetheart “twitpic” from school, I do worry. If we are really in the midst of a David Drought, how do we survive the monsoon which is sure to come?

Just when Chile’s 8.8 earthquake has dominated headlines, “Somos el Mundo,” — the Spanish-langage version of “We Are the World” — premiered its video on the Univision network’s “El Show de Cristina” last night with dozens of Latin artists bringing their biggest power vocals to the benefit of Haiti’s earthquake victims. “Somos el Mundo” was recorded Feb. 19 in Miami.
Colombian singer Juanes opened the song, followed by Ricky Martin, whose foundation has partnered with Habitat for Humanity on shelter-building efforts in Haiti. Shakira sang the first chorus, while Pitbull, the Black Eyed Peas’ Taboo and Daddy Yankee performed the rap section of the song. “American Idol” alum David Archuleta sang his parts in Spanish.
The backing track was identical to the one produced by Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie, but the first-ever Spanish version was translated by Emilio and Gloria Estefan, and the recording was paid for by Univision. “Somos el Mundo” was the top Latin song on iTunes this morning; its proceeds will benefit the We Are the World Foundation’s Haiti relief efforts.

David must be so happy today, and I am happy for him. What a great week he is having and reading to 4th graders is so much fun!! I love that he keeps us posted with twitter pics and notes. And I love that this site brings all the latest tidbits to us so fast and then they make them even prettier by creating posters and merry go rounds and gigantic screen shots… just for the joy of it…it’s a beautiful thing! So in keeping with a journal and we should have one on him, David has done so much since his last concert in December.
Amongst all that he has taken part in, he has sung at a major football game in Texas, visited and spoke at gatherings in Honduras, spent a great deal of time writing and recording in LA, been on stage as a guest during singing performances, went to Miami to record ‘Somos el Mundo’ with wonderful Latino singers, had the revelation of his book cover (and that is important to us), reading Dr. Seuss in a school for a cause and didn’t he go to New York for something? What have I missed?…There hasn’t been a drought yet these eight weeks yet really!
We wait and watch and learn…oh and have fun!

Last night I was spazzing over his superb, sublime performance, and his blinding beauty. Today I’m smiling at the photos of him reading Dr Seuss to the kids wearing a hat and he looks as comfortable with those kids as he did with the group of the biggest Latino artists in the world.
Who is he? Why is he messing with my head?

Maybe if I listen to Somos El Mundo enough and follow the copy of the translation that I’ve printed off, evenutally I will understand it also. hahahaha—NOT!! What was I thinking in high school when I decided against a foreign language class? Back to listen again. Oh yeah, and VOTE and view some more Dr. Suess. What a wonderful message that book offers to all of us. Man, David is an ambassador of all things good even to a 4th grade class that he’s never met before.

After sixteen days of watching the Olympics in late night Vancouver time, I have finally crashed! I fell ssleep and had all kinds of weird dreams…I woke up thinking that hey, let me go on to my pc and have David straighten out my sleepy head. Right! So off I went…
Oh yah, I have been trying to sell the feature that everything is OK, that David has given us so much to read and watch and listen to that we are doing just great without concerts. Then with concerts we always have new vids each day. How wonderful was that?
Well, then I go on into ‘The Voice Unplugged’. The guy is at the concert where he is wearing this plaid shirt that is a soft, light blue/grey with a grey tshirt. Someone probably knows the concert but I have never seen the vids.
With a huge twinkle in his eyes he sings…And I ‘still’ need you, and I miss you…(Sung with a huge smile)…cause you know I’d walk a thousand miles just to see you again (then another big smile)…So to torment further he now sings…’Baby Hold On’ full out…Well that did it.
I’d go a thousand miles right now to hear him sing again…no new cd necessary either as the last one sounds new all over again.

Tawna, what amazes me is that it seems to me that David has so many MORE fans who are NOT Hispanic/Latino and who don’t speak Spanish…so far. The majority of his fans are caucasian or Asian. All you have to do is go to the fan sites. The sweet thing is that his fans WANT to learn Spanish because of David. His non-Spanish speaking fans are appreciating David’s heritage and all that goes with it. David is embracing his latino heritage more & more which makes me and all his die-hard Hispanic/Latino fans very happy. He will be a HUGE star in the Latino music scene when he releases a Spanish album. It’s inevitable. It’s his destiny. And I can hardly wait. There have been Latino artists who have crossed over to English but in David’s case, it’s going to be the other way around. 😀

Please take care of David.
Watch over him, protect him from all harm.
Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path.
Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give.
Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him unconditionally as we, his devoted Archangels do.
Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being.
Give him rest when he feels weary.
Give him stamina to sustain his hectic pace.
Give him assurance when he feels doubt.
Give him joy when he feels sad and never allow David to feel alone or lonely.
Give us the wisdom to ALWAYS DO RIGHT by David.
Help us support David so that it’s ALWAYS IN HIS BEST INTERESTS.
CLOAK DAVID IN YOUR PROTECTIVE ARMS always and please keep David and his voice healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.
