Revealing Himself

Song of Myself
By Walt Whitman
1819-1892

I celebrate myself, and sing myself,
And what I assume you shall assume,
For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you.

Courageously vulnerable and incredibly honest, David Archuleta, is known for the strong connection he makes with his audience when he sings.  To make a strong connection, you have to believe in what you sing.  David recently said he will be taking a larger part in the songwriting process on his next album because he wants his music to reflect who he is as a person.

“I want the stories to be more relatable to what I want to talk about.  It’s, like, fun music! But you can tell that it’s my story.  And I like that.  I think people will get to know me better with these songs.”

“I want my music to make people feel good.  I want people to be able to connect with me and my music.  You know, it’s just figuring out how to do that the best way — because I’m not good with words, but I think I’m learning to do that more and more, as I get more involved with writing.”

David has been working with accomplished songwriters such as Joy Williams (co-writer of “Waiting For Yesterday“), Matt Wertz, Mat Kearney, producer Robert Marvin and  producer/songwriter/novelist Matt Bronleewe in Nashville, with Jeymes Samuel in New York and with Victoria Horn, Matt Squire, Kina Grannis and Daniel Bedingfield in Los Angeles.

Songwriting is undoubtedly a key element of a recording artist’s career.  It seems that to be taken seriously as an artist, you have a greater chance of being respected, winning Grammy Awards  and having longevity if you can do more than sing.  While talented singers are always sought after, those who in addition, can write their own material are especially valued such as Billy Joel, Elton John, Sheryl Crowe, Alicia Keys and Phil Collins, to name a few.

But writing one’s own music doesn’t automatically win you respect if you can’t connect with your audience.  I wondered how important it is for an artist to write their own music and what it takes to be a success in the music business.  With David in mind, I did some research on what the total package was all about.  Here is a list of attribute’s of successful artists from “The Music Think Tank“.

Heart – the powerful force that brings art to life and creates the charisma that bonds great musical artists to their fans.

Conviction – the total and absolute belief in yourself as an artist and in your ability to write great songs.

Drive – the thing that fuels an artist’s belief that their music is great.

Perseverance – this is what permits an artist to become successful if they hang in there until it all comes together.

Originality – this is what separates great music from the music everyone else makes and allows it to stand alone from all the rest.

Great Songs – A great song is made up of words and melodies that embody the artist’s spirit and soul.  Together they forge a sound so special that those who listen to it are moved and emotionally bond with it.  Great artists never stop trying to challenge themselves by writing better and better songs.

Appealing Image – an appealing image that is comfortable yet edgy enough to define and differentiate who you are as an artist.

Great People Skills – the ability to communicate with fans one on one as well as connect with a large audience.  Honest communication only strengthens the connection.

An Accomplished Live Performance – The greatest musical artists combine incredible music with a compelling performance. Of course, a great song can stand on its own without an accompanying live performance.  But great music played live by a powerful, exciting, charismatic performer gets taken to a much higher, more memorable level.  Some people are born to play live and others have to work at it to be good.  Live connections almost single handedly drive every aspect of an artist’s success.

This list made me wonder how important it is for David to write his own music when he already has heart, conviction, drive, perseverance, originality, an appealing image, great people skills, drive, and a kick-ass live performance so early in his career.  However, I feel that for David to shed the American Idol image once and for all, and for him to be taken seriously as an artist and recognized as an accomplished singer/songwriter, he needs to write great songs.  I have every faith that he has it in him and that he knows what kind of music to write for his voice.  It’s exhilarating to think about in light of the many genres The Voice can sing.

How important do you think it is for an artist to write their own music?

I’m sooo excited for the next album!! 🙂 🙂 And the thought about david’s own words in it is even more exciting!!
You know david can makes us FEEL the song when he sing it, but to actually WRITE it – so much MORE!!
And i’m sure he’ll be AMAZING with it!! ❤

Great article, Bebe. I no longer confuse you with Beebee. Thank you for clearing that up. You both write very well.
As for your question, “How important do you think it is for an artist to write their own music?” My feeling is that it isn’t the most important…did Frank ever write his own lyrics? But I would love to hear David’s. I am happy listening to anything he sings but knowing the words are his own will make any song extra special. He is young and has many years ahead of him. I only wish I were as young so I could be around to hear all that he will do. No matter who writes the songs, I can’t wait for his next cd. In the meantime, I thank Gd every day for Youtube and for the Voce Unplgged (thank you Abrra).
I love the images, especially the top one, and the vid of WfY.

Bebe – great article! If anyone knows how to connect with his fans, it is David! Although I have no idea how important it is for a singer to also be a songwriter, I think with David and the heart connection he has with his fans, hearing his own words will be soooo special!

And as far as him wanting us “to be able to connect with him and his music” – if I connect anymore, well, someone better figure out how to put a LOT more hours in the day!

    Bebewriter,

Love the timing of your article! Just last night we read all the excited tweets from Eman, David Hodges, and Claude Kelly on writing for David, and David tweeting his own excitement to get started. We are in for an amazing album, I just know it. He has grown so much since that first album was done in a rush to get it out there. And as we all know, it was fantastic! What will he be able to do if he has the time, resources and input to make it truly his own.

    I LOL at Archiesfan4life’s comment…

“….as far as him wanting us “to be able to connect with him and his music” – if I connect anymore, well, someone better figure out how to put a LOT more hours in the day!”

Ain’t it the truth? Going down that list of what it takes to be a success in the music industry, David checks all the boxes better than anyone I know.

“Some people are born to play live and others have to work at it to be good. Live connections almost single handedly drive every aspect of an artist’s success.”

This is the one aspect about David as a performer I did not expect when he was on AI. The way he moved so quickly to take possession of the stage and everyone in the venue. Impossible to take your eyes off him, or refuse delivery of all the feelings he conveyed, or resist his megawatt smile and joy.

About the question, how important is it for an artist to write their own music, especially one who is the total package like David…I think he would be successful without doing it. But success is not the only goal worth achieving. He deserves and I think, from the kind of artists he most admires, wants to be taken seriously. Writing his own songs will allow him space to create what is original and meaningful to him and place him on a level where success is measured by that alone.

Thanks for this, bebe, I’m so glad you asked the question because I’ve thought a lot about not just David’s role as a songwriter, but the whole process of songwriting these days. (Which we’ve gotten a window into, thanks to David.)

It seems as though record labels today are trying to put young talent through sort of a singer-songwriter meat grinder so they’ll appeal to today’s audience. They can try all they want but I don’t think it’ll ever work that way.

Either you have melodies and/or lyrics bubbling through your brain or you don’t … you can’t force these things, imo … musicians write songs for the same reasons novelists write books, because they have something to say and their particular art form is their chosen way to say it. (Or maybe it’s the other way around … the art form chooses them.)

The fact that David wrote songs (good ones) before A.I. (and the way he plays with the music while singing) tells me that he is a born songwriter.

Does he need to be? Not for me — he’s such a brilliant vocal interpreter, he could do nothing but cover songs from now on and still be successful, I think … but it seems as though David’s got too many unchained melodies coursing through his veins not to channel them into his own quirky, random, brilliant signature songs.

David does tick all the boxes doesn’t he… I agree with TOfan, David seems to have that song writing inspiration in his system. I’m wondering about one of his latest tweets though – RT @therocketsummer I need a break – but I’d rather have a breakthrough. – Does this refer to songwriting? And if it does, is he putting too much pressure on himself at this moment? He has admitted to it being a struggle to write. Ease the pressure a little David and let it all come out!

Great article! I think that the emphasis on songwriting gives an artist more control over their career and a greater percentage of the revenue from cd sales. Saw a documentary on Taylor Swift in which she described that in her early days as an artist major record labels passed her over completely or wanted to sign her to a deal which did not guarantee release of a cd. She refused that offer and set out to pen her own songs and the results speak for themselves. She is in complete control of her career at the ripe old age of 20! I think in David’s case it is especially important for him to develop songwriting skills to insulate himself from the politics of American Idol – he is not that far removed from the Idol machine as they have their sphere of influence within Jive and with many successful songwriters. What I’m trying to say is that if David writes or contributes to the writing of his own songs that he won’t have to wait until the powers that be decide to give him another hit like Crush.

Awestruck, I think you are onto something. I think David is full of musical talent but that he puts too much pressure on himself. He is a perfectionist when it comes to music. It is hard to force creativity. And you are right…..if David relaxes a bit then it will all come spilling out. I hope he is recording melodies or lyrics when they come in his head. I know David wants to write about positive things. But I also know that some of the most heartfelt songs are about adversity. I hope he doesn’t close the door in righting about challenges in life.

Love the article. I do believe that David should be involved with the song writing process. The more he is involved the more the gift will come out. His heart and soul will come out. I am really impressed that he is just immersing himself in the process. This is one of the things that he may not be the most comfortable with, but he is diving right in….just like speaking at the women’s conference. He is doing everything he can to build his art and career.

Munkmusic – I don’t see David closing the door on writing about the challenges in life. Think about SOT, not necesarily a challenge in life but speaks to the deep need inside of us wanting somebody to be there for us. And Falling, talks about the struggle with depression? I might imagine that David may have something to say regarding Haiti’s people and their struggles / challenges since the earthquake.

    Jebb,

You make a great point about writing giving David much more control over his music and not having to depend on TPTB to grace him with a hit song. It’s not only the artistic freedom that I was talking about, (and the fullfillment that comes from that) but freedom FROM certain machinations beyond his control. I think, as TOfan says, that David is a “born songwriter” and he’s “got too many unchained melodies coursing through his veins..” He can’t restrain it from bursting out at the most unexpected moments. He sees, feels the music in everything he encounters, everything reminds him of a song, a melody, a phrase. When you have an artist who cares as deeply as David does about the world and people, and one who loves songs with messages, you just know he has so much he wants to say. You can tell by the way he talks about writing, he has a real passion for it already. It will be a struggle Awestruck, but David is wise enough to realize that fact and that’s half the battle.

Found this anonymous quote the other day…

“Only amateurs say that they write for their own amusement. Writing is not an amusing occupation. It is a combination of ditch-digging, mountain-climbing, treadmill and childbirth… But amusing? Never.”

He impressed Jason Mraz with his statement about not being experienced enough yet to write well. I think Jason was problably used to a much more cocky attitude from young singer/songwriters.

Angelica: Loved what you said about measuring success, that it’s not the only goal worth achieving. He deserves …..to be taken seriously.

To be taken seriously by one’s profession is a huge achievement. I can see this day coming. My instincts tell me that David is slowly turning the corner in terms of being accepted as a serious artist in a very competitive industry.

TOfan: “The fact that David wrote songs (good ones) before A.I. (and the way he plays with the music while singing) tells me that he is a born songwriter.”

I totally agree. With time and space to realize his potential, I shudder to think of all the amazing music that is going to come bursting from him.

Awestruck: “I’m wondering about one of his latest tweets though – RT @therocketsummer I need a break – but I’d rather have a breakthrough. – Does this refer to songwriting? I think David’s perfectionist nature and the way he pushes himself is all part of his genius. But unlike a lot of people, he sees struggles as challenges and always rises to the occasion.

JEB “I think in David’s case it is especially important for him to develop songwriting skills to insulate himself from the politics of American Idol – he is not that far removed from the Idol machine as they have their sphere of influence within Jive and with many successful songwriters. Bebe,

I think you just proved my point that you are indeed eloquent (remember our little discussion?)! Excellent article and food for thought my friend!

It doesn’t really matter to me whether or not David writes his own songs. His interpretive abilities are such that he “owns” every song he sings no matter who wrote it. In fact, I am happy with David’s oohs and ahs and mms without any words at all – just his gorgeous voice vibrating through my heart. As long as he keeps singing I will keep listening, whether or not he writes the lyrics. However, David has said that he wants to write songs with positive messages and I want that for him too. I think that his courageous spirit, sensitive soul and empathetic/compassionate nature will enable him to write incredibly beautiful songs.

Thanks to you, Bebe, for this wonderful article and thanks also to all you other great writers who enrich the lives of David’s fans by sharing your talents with us and providing such wonderful sites to visit. Bless you all!

I hope that David will learn to “let it spill” cause I agree that his musical “writing” soul is just bubbling under the surface, waiting to express itself. His interpretation of other’s lyrics when he sings has been there for him since he was inspired by other singers like Eva C. etc. the fact that he is working with so many established writers can only be a good thing… Can You hardly wait??? New music FTW, but I also what him to have whatever time he needs… I’ll be here forever.

Thank you for a well written article.David’s music will evolve as he matures. I am so very pleased we are all here to watch his growth. He has displayed maturity beyond his years in so many areas, now he will add songwriting to his “backpack” of talents. Working with some of the best writers in the industry today, speaks volumes about the respect David has earned among his peers.

David is a versatile performer. He sings a plethora of styles of music. Each one becomes “his own” once he puts his vocal stamp on it. It matters not whether he penned the lyrics for the song for it to give us the feeling he intended. The emotion and spirit washs over us.

To venture more into the profession of songwriting will be a giant leap for him in his career. Publishing is a necessary craft to aid the artist in keeping his work up front in the industry. We see from the songs that he has co written that he performs these songs from a special place, giving it all he has to give. He conveys the heart connection that has be come his trademark.

I’m thinking that for David, writing songs with positive messages doesn’t mean the same thing as it might for others. He isn’t meaning “happy, light” stuff. I think he is talking about “facing your life”, with a positive attitude. Though life seems to always be filled with difficult turns and at times adversity, David wants us to “face it” and see in it a positive challenge. David, the teacher, wants his songs to help “show us the way”. I can’t wait!!
I don’t post here very often, but a day doesn’t go by that I don’t appreciate how learning from David enriches my life.

My copy of Leaves of Grass is about 4 feet away from me. 🙂

With David’s musical brain, I can only imagine all of the melodies and lyrics that randomly come to him on a daily basis. Harnessing all of that random musical energy into a song – gah. Must be hard.

    Abrra,

“We see from the songs that he has co written that he performs these songs from a special place, giving it all he has to give.”

How true. We have seen that on every song he had a hand in writing. To bring something out of nothing into existence; that you labor to create, is to love it like your own child.

Ah, Poof, I love what you said about what David means by songs with a positive message. Not something light but..”talking about “facing your life”, with a positive attitude. Though life seems to always be filled with difficult turns and at times adversity, David wants us to “face it” and see in it a positive challenge.”

I agree wholeheartedly. I think he means songs about rising above discouragement and despair and believing this too will pass and life is still, despite it’s hardships, worth living. Just “hold on, take my hand, don’t let go, somebody is out there who’s coming to save the day, and desperate is a place we all have been.” Hope is the message and when you are strong enough to stand, reach out and help someone else.

I think there will be some light, fun stuff like he said in Bebe’s article, but singing about the human condition of suffering and pain is somewhere he’s not afraid to go.

Bebe, really loved your post. David does have it in him to write great songs. In fact, the song he wrote at 14 years old, “Falling” made me break down in sobs when I first heard it. Then I couldn’t stop listening to it. I felt it could have been written for me. I listen to it every single day. I love it that much. It’s unfortunate that so many fans thought it was too dark and couldn’t accept that “happy David” could ever feel so sad that he could write such a song. They totally didn’t understand that it is a song coming from David’s compassion for people who are going through the depths of despair, letting them, ME, know he understands the pain, the darkness of depression. How did he know how it feels to be in such despair that he could write a perfect song about it? That he could find the words at 14 years old?

Then there’s the other songs on his album he co-wrote, “Works For Me”, which he says is about his awkwardness and indecisiveness, then putting in little nuances, or digs if you will, at those who have told him he “can’t”. He knows himself so well and knows what works for HIM works for HIM and so be it. He’s saying “I appreciate you trying to help, but mind your own business”, in a nice was of course.

Then we have “Somebody Out There”, the favorite right off the bat of most of his “mature” fans and the kind of ballad, singing about Hope when you think there is none, with a message that there’s always “somebody out there, you are not alone”. I think David knows first hand about this message. I believe he has “been there” for more family members & friends than we will ever know.

And how about “Don’t Let Go”? Not a favorite of many of David’s fans at first. Then he just let us have it with more soul, passion & sensuality than I have EVER seen on stage. It was a “What Just Happened” moment in Sayreville! His performance of this song makes believe what he is singing about..then he put in the “I know how to save a life”! He KNEW exactly what he was doing and how to do it!

“A Little Too Not Over You” is a song so many fans can’t believe it’s from his own experience. Why not? Maybe David’s never had what HE considers a real “Girlfriend”, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t had a crush or two in his life. The idea of the song came from him and he did say it was from “personal experience” in a couple of interviews.

Then there’s almost everyone’s favorite, “Zero Gravity”..What more can I say? Why this song has not had national radio play is beyond me! It is a feel good song and as good as any pop song I’ve ever heard. As good as “Crush” in my opinion.

David does have it in him to write great songs about despair, pain, love, happiness, laughter, tragedy, winning, losing, the weather, food, life, death, family, friends, and God. We know he is a good, loving, compassionate, humble man. And I hope he knows he doesn’t HAVE to write only about fun, happy, rainbows & unicorn songs, as that is not real life. I hope David writes whatever he feels in his heart and soul. I think David has so much going on in his brain and he just needs the courage to put whatever it is to music and it will surely be great because it’s from him.

Here’s “Falling”, music & lyrics by David Archuleta at 14 years old..AMAZING! I had hoped to see and hear David sing this song LIVE, but I’m not sure my heart could have taken it..

I think he sang a little of it once at a VIP, but I think the feedback from his fans that it was too dark and did not reflect his happy demeanor made him or maybe his mgmt think twice about singing it LIVE on stage. 😦

Good night all. Don’t forget to vote for The Voice as best FanSite on Twitter!

For David, who will have sunny skies in the 60’s for the next several days in LA….

    Dear lord,

    Please take care of David.
Watch over him, protect him from all harm.
Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path.
Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give.
Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him unconditionally as we, his devoted Archangels do.
Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being.
Give him rest when he feels weary.
Give him stamina to sustain his hectic pace.
Give him assurance when he feels doubt.
Give him joy when he feels sad and never allow David to feel alone or lonely.
Give us the wisdom to always do right by David.
Help us support David so that it’s always in his best interest.
CLOAK DAVID IN YOUR PROTECTIVE ARMS always and please keep David and his voice healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.
Though we may be unworthy Lord, we humbly pray. Amen

David, have a good & restful night’s sleep with sweet & happy dreams. Thank you for all you do and for who you are. Keep with you all our love, support & prayers always. Contigo siempre! We will be with you always! TAKE CARE!

ODDity#21: Thank you! So good to see you here! Have we been missing each other on The Voice Unplugged or have you not been there? I love this from your post: ” I think that his courageous spirit, sensitive soul and empathetic/compassionate nature will enable him to write incredibly beautiful songs.” And this: “His interpretive abilities are such that he “owns” every song he sings no matter who wrote it.” We’ve seen evidence of this over and over again. Thanks for your kind words about The Voice.

Refnaf: I can hardly wait for the new album. David is working with and learning from some of the most accomplished writers in the business. You said: “The fact that he is working with so many established writers can only be a good thing…” I believe that too!

Abs: Thank you! Your words ring true: “It matters not whether he penned the lyrics for the song for it to give us the feeling he intended. The emotion and spirit washes over us.”

Poof: Glad you decided to post today! I agree with you about David’s desire to sing songs with positive messages doesn’t necessarily mean that he would shy away from anything that isn’t happy or light. He’s too astute for that, He always finds the good in things (exercise hurts the body but it feels good because it’s good for you) and faces life with optimism.

Betsy: Angelica gets the props for the Whitman quote. Isn’t it just wonderful?

I love how when you research and write I get educated. This is a great article and it worded for me specifically the essence of music stardom– you gave words to what I know in my heart and in my musical ear and eyes but could not separate out. All the boxes are indeed “ticked” in David’s case! We get all of that plus a man of faith, hope, humility, generosity and love all rolled into one person. Very few stars tick off all of the first list and fewer still tick off the second.

I hope David will write his own songs so we can learn how David ticks. It is such a blessing to watch all of this unfold in front of our very eyes ( and ears!) David has spent a lifetime coming to terms with his giftedness and we have just seen two years of it and continue to be amazed beyond amazed by his talent. I am so glad David’s response to his giftedness is to respect it, protect it and to work hard to reach his potential. He could have grown arrogant, but he remains humbled. He could have grown passive and lazy, but he remains proactive and diligent. David could live as the center of his universe, but for David, happiness is found in it “not being all about him.” Many people have gifts, but few people work so hard to reach their potential and to use their gifts to say “Thank you” back to The Giver. Without a doubt,David’s talent, his hard work, his attitude and his songs will contine to inspire us. I fully expect that David will not only succeed greatly as an artist, he is going to succeed by being a great person.

Bebe….Great Article! And it couldn’t have been timed better. Not only is David talking and tweeting about his writing, but now we have numerous tweets from so many writers. You could add Eman, Dave Hodges, Claude Kelly, and theMessengersNA, all have written for some popular singers.
I personally could go the rest of my time with nothing but David doing covers and songs written by others. He is a gifted interpreter of music, but I too believe that for the current media to accept and respect him he will have to prove himself as a writer to them and embrace the fact that he is a musical prodigy, he has more than proved himself to me. HIS songs are not only great but he does add a little something something to his heartfelt performances. I don’t understand why the media seems to join the bandwagon with some pretty mediocre and arrogant artists. But I try to be like David, patient.
I’m going to venture in saying we should have at least a single released by the beginning of summer. The anticipation for this album I think goes beyond his fans. Is he the real deal? We know he is and by the looks of it with all these popular writers Jive may also believe it.
You have all made wonderful thought provoking comments and they have given me such pleasure to read.

BTW…The pictures in the article are stunning…good choices.

SF#28 At 14 years old, in ninth grade, I don’t think I was able to express myself in speaking or in writing the way David does in the song, “Falling”. There’s a lot behind that beautiful smile of his, a lot of humility and compassion that is waiting to pour out of him in his writing sessions. I believe he will do it. He is, after all, “courageously vulnerable and incredibly honest”.

Hotdealsorg posted a link to the following review of David’s first album, on Twitter.

“I have been listening to male singers for over 25 years and have bemoaned the loss of the level of skill that was once more readily available. Sinatra on ballads, Damone for tone, Darin for rhythm, Cook for style and so much more. I agree that David Archuleta’s first album is targeted to his prime audience and that a few cuts are a bit heavy on the production side ( albeit with great recording studio skill ). For those of you, however, who like the art of singing, listen a second or a third time and focus on what David is doing with his voice. His phrasing, his breath control, his modulation during short phrases and his matching of the tone of his voice to the word is remarkable. On some songs , he actually alters the timber of his voice during a long note…listen to how he matches the word (length of singing) to the length ofthe note. Sinatra was wonderful at that so that he sounded like he was really singing words…not speaking them to music. Finally , David does not fish around for pitch…He must have close to perfect pitch and he always in the center of note..not sliding up to where he should be ..that permits him to be clear and to stay with a rhythm so well. On some of the upbeat songs he is using his voice as a musical instrument and not singing around the music. I know that it would not be sound business decision for an almost 18 year old but I would love for him to add a few standards that permit him to infuse emotion in the lyric and make some old songs new again. For example, his “Imagine” will likely be the classic version for many young people going forward. David Archuleta has a rare gift and we should encourage him to use all of his skills to reform the modern definition of a performance standard.”

Don’t you just love when people ‘get’ The Voice?

VOTE, VOTE, VOTE, for THE VOICE as best David’s best FanSite on Twitter!!!!

Djafan, why is Crush making a “comeback”? Could it be his impromtu MTV Hope For Haiti performace created a buzz backstage with all the “VIP’s” who heard him, and in turn praised David to others in the “business”? Crush is his Platinum HIT single so some DJ’s are “bringing it back” or maybe playing it for the first time? David’s voice was heavenly on the video, but we all know David sounds beautifully superior LIVE! So I’m sure some of the VIP’s who heard David didn’t, and couldn’t forget his performance, and when VIP’s like the MTV producers talk, others in “the Business” listen. IMO. 😉 I only wish they would play ALTNOY & Touch My Hand, which in turn could generate sales of those and others on his album, on iTunes.

Also, seems David does not have a publicist due to money issues. But I think a REALLY GOOD publicist who WOULD DO RIGHT by David, would be worth the cost in the long run, IMO of course. 😀

So many great song writers are loving working with David in LA. These song writers are heavy duty and very talented. I can hardly wait to hear some of the songs when they are “leaked” by Jive, and I hope we won’t have to wait too long. 😀

This is so weird! When I turned on the radio in the car today, “Crush” was playing! It’s hard to tell if David is getting more buzz than before since we’re following him so closely each minute of each day. Our perspective is skewed; it’s like barely noticing that your spouse has gained weight because you live together. LOL

But what of this? David’s picture has been recently appearing in well-known magazines (Sports Ilustrated, Cosmopolitan); Crush is getting more radio play; his first CD is getting more sales; Crush ringtone is one of the most popular ringtones of 2008; David has been working with well-renowned songwriters….I can probably think of more but I’m pressed for time.

Just my opinion, but I think he’s turning the corner in terms of being noticed and accepted for his talent, not so much as the kid from American Idol. No gripes about AI from me; that show brought David to us and his beautiful voice that touches a pleasure center in our brain.

Having a hard time getting through the ArchuDrought?
    There’s help! LOL
I spent the last two hours in “The Voice Unplugged” tonight with Abrra, djafan, betsy, kaycee, franie, dakgal, archiesfanforlife and Archielover. If I left anyone out, please forgive me. Abrra has spent hours uploading quality videos that she spins at your request. Watching videos of David singing live, in concert somehow takes your mind off of missing David, singing live, in concert.

We are there most evenings. Stop by on any given night at: http://www.livestream.com/thevoiceunplugged

We are planning special nights at The Voice Unplugged. Check back here for more information.

JR: Welcome to the Voice! Missing you too!

AFF4!!! You stayed up tooo late?? No surprise, a little too much fun, but I am refreshed cause i resisted the temptation to stay!

SF, How??? “I think we better get ready to think of new words & ways to describe David’s voice & music. Methinks there will be no words adequate enough to do justice to what he has in store for us.”
I ran out of words a while back. I feel very stunned, when I hear a song that I have not heard in a bit, I become gobsmacked, It’s like his voice does something different every time I hear it, gosh, all I can do is gush> how boring, lol

Bebe- Sorry I missed the party at the “Voice Unplugged” last night — sounds like it was a good one! Problem is once I get there it’s hard to get off….you know what I mean? I hope to get there soon again because it IS so much fun and does help during the David Drought. Been lovin’ all the songwriting and peeps David is working with and very excited to hear his next album. Are these still called “albums” anymore! haha

Just thought everyone might like to know that Josh Hoge is seeking David out on Twitter! He says he has five songs ready and perfect for David! Woot! Songwriters seeking out David! This is awesome! So you think maybe some people are starting to get a clue?! It’s about time!

I think I’m already a walking zombie. LOL Still haven’t recooped from last night’s fun!

refnaf#89 “…when I hear a song that I have not heard in a bit, I become gobsmacked, It’s like his voice does something different every time I hear it…”

This is true! The same thing is happening in the chatroom; all the videos seem brand new! (Abrra is working her magic again!)

pabuckie #81 “Are these still called “albums” anymore!?”

Sure they are, but in a recent interview, I heard David refer to them as ‘records’ so that’s what I’ve been calling them.

Munkmusic #82 “Songwriters seeking out David! This is awesome!”

    ~~~Music to my ears~~~!!!
    Quincy Jones is planning a sequel to the “We Are The World” video to raise funds for the victims of the Haitian earthquake. The list of performers hasn’t been finalized yet. Hmmm.
    The recording session is scheduled for Monday, February 1.
