The Little Things

When you love someone, sometimes you see magic in some little thing they do. The way they flip the burger on the grill, the way one eye squeezes closed a bit more than the other when they smile, they way they hold their toothbrush or splash their feet in the pool. Endearing little everyday things can make your heart skip a beat and make you smile. We have been fortunate to get a glimpse into David’s world. Anyone with full-blown ODD knows David’s crooked smile, his shy smile, his eyebrow moves, his little strut across the stage, the face he makes when he ends a glory note. There have been so many moments we have been able to share with him, yet there are so many little everyday things we will never get to see. We all have our David obsessions – his hair, his nose, his clothes, etc….and as creepy as he would find this exercise, I would love to know what little thing you’d like to know about or see David doing (please be respectful). Not that we want to invade his privacy – just some curious musings by bored fans awaiting a book signing tour (please God) or other epic announcement….Does he type using the home row? Does he roll up his sock all the way before he puts it on his foot? Does he clip his nails from the thumb to the pinky or the other way? Does he have an elaborate skin routine that keeps him so sparkly?
If you cannot narrow it down to one thing, please feel free to ramble on – David would approve of rambling. My secret little thing goes a little something like this:
Pretend for a moment with me that David would actually eat a Cinnabon. He is presented with a large Cinnabon, complete with extra icing. No fork, no knife, no napkins. He picks it up with his huge manhands and looks it over, planning his attack. Will he start at one edge or at the top? Will he orbit it or go from one edge right across? Will he let the icing drip down or will he be sure to take careful bites that include equal parts cinnabon and icing? Either way, this would be quite the spectacle. Either way, there will be icing on his face and hands. And he’ll have to do something with it. Either way, this will end well.
FYI – I know I am a freak, and I fly my freak flag proudly. 🙂

I don’t think I’ll ever get that out of my head now. 😛 More to say about your question later, but for now, life calls. Don’t forget the Haiti Relief effort is not over by a long shot. There is a movement underway to thank jambajim for remembering David’s fans last night and give to the cause at the same time. You have to get your donations in by Monday! And dear TOfan from SnowAngelz came up with the BRILLIANT plan!

Quick backstory: Jim Cantiello tweeted tonight from backstage at MTV after the Hope for Haiti Now telethon. MTV producers met up with David Archuleta, who gave an impromptu mini-concert for the camera backstage. This video will be posted on Monday to MTV.com.

FG – Your post is too, too funny! I was waiting for it since I saw it mentioned a thread or two ago!
It’s hard to come up with little things I’d like to see David do. I’ve long wished to just spend a day with him just to witness how he does just about anything. I think I’d find anything/everything he did fascinating just because…just because.
I think it would be fun to see David doing something physical, maybe trying a new activity for the first time. I like to see him unsure of himself – he’s so funny and so real. Perhaps it would be fun to see him try to climb one of those rope ladders they have at carnivals that keep flipping over – sort of a balancing activity. Or better yet, I’d like to see David swing a hammer down and try to ring the bell on one of those games that measures your strength. I could watch him play miniature golf – that would be fun.
I could stay here all day and write about all the things it would be fun to see David do! This could be a very dangerous activity. My family just may discover me sleep deprived and dehydrated days from now with my hands clenched to my keyboard!

FG! Oh my goodness, I love this idea!! LOL, I’m pretty ODD and I find myself wondering on a regular basis, as I go about my little everyday tasks, how would David do this? Or even, DOES David do this? It’s fairly frightening, the things that rattle through my brain 😛
So my thing would be — How would David grocery shop? I know, I know, he probably hasn’t done much full-blown grocery shopping (like, go to the store and buy all the food for the family for a week by yourself) but what I want to know is how would he, if he were to. I am strangely entranced by grocery store psychology. I really don’t know what any of it would mean, but I just wanna know. lol.
Specifically, I want to know:
-Would he shop back to front or front to back? (For those stores where you enter in the front; I guess this wouldn’t work for stores where you enter in the middle. LOL at me analyzing this to death already…)
-When buying eggs, would he open the carton to check them before putting them in the cart? If so, would he just glance at the tops or would he pick each egg up to make sure it’s not broken??
-What’s okay generic and what HAS TO BE brand name? (LOL, the eternal debate!)
-White or Wheat? Or one of those fancy “other” options??
-Along the same lines, when buying bread would he reach for the loaf in the back or grab one off the front?
-Canned corn or frozen corn?
-Tuna in water or oil? Tuna at all?? Maybe that’s part of his fish dislike…
-When buying pickles to put on some burgers, sweet or dill? (OH, I REALLY WANT TO KNOW THIS ONE — IT’S MY FREAK FLAG, FG!!)
-Also, assuming David likes grapes, when he puts the bag in the cart and continues shopping does he eat any grapes along the way?
-And finally — my burning question for everyone that I talk to about my weird thoughts on grocery store psychology — when checking out, does he put items on the counter in any particular order or just randomly out of the cart? (Filed under FYI & TMI: I have to organize everything on the counter first by if it’s cold or not and then by degree of possible breakage with any non-grocery items coming last. Yes, I have issues and I keep the store employees quite amused.)
Will my knowing any of this make a single bit of difference in my life? Nope. But I’d still like to know. Plus it might give me some more insight to the way David’s mind works. And I’m always up for understanding more about the great enigma that is David Archuleta.
So David, come see me! I’ll show ya some good Southern hospitality. I’ll have my mom cook for ya. (Cause, lordy, you don’t want me to do it!) And then maybe we can do a little grocery shopping together? 🙂

Back later to make my list of what I’d like to see him do, random things like you said that enter my mind at all times. If you don’t have this symptom, I don’t think you have a full-blown case of ODD. lol.

Seeing how DOWNRIGHT COMFORTABLE David looks with Selena Gomez CLINGING to him is prit-tee sweet to see. (Did you see that pic? Of COURSE you have. :p) He is not minding that even one itty bitty nanobit. I also have always adored that photo of David holding the BABY. When I try to imagine him with his own babies (ONE DAY IN THE FAR FUTURE…lol) I get downright FAINT. *flies freak flag*
I love The Voice! In fact, I love ALL our fave David loving blogs. There are just too many, “…that’s the only problem.” (Which is why I just hadda retire to the planet. A remote archu_retirement home/convalecent center in outer space. Yeah. That’s it. ) Between David’s own journey, which I KNEW was gonna DESTROY ME … and allllll the blogs… my haid has… evaporated. lol

Was absent yesterday…like SF says real life stuff.
Funnygirl So glad you wrote up your idea! You are so darn funny.
Hmmmm….I would like to see David in a room full of babies, a nursery and watch him interact. Also would like to see David with his younger sisters hanging out. Heck I’d like to hang out with him and chat, he is so interesting at such a young age. And well…watching him eat is for some reason something we like to watch. For your viewing pleasure check out the new videos up top on the left sidebar.
I love his his vlog…he was so affected by the condition of the Central American people and impressed by the simple life and the Haiti disaster sure did get to him. He has a heart of gold.

I, too, would like to see David driving a car. I bet right now he thinks he has spent most of his life on planes and buses… and being taxied around.
It would be fun to see David feeling free behind the wheel, having total control of the road and just going wherever his heart desires! Surely he would (take the hint from SF) open the windows… and sing!

See, even when he screws up, he’s adorable to watch. So here at last, is what I’d like to see David do…
1) I’d like to sit near him in church and watch his reverent manner there. I’d like to see if he tones his voice done real low when he sings a hymn sitting with the congregation. Cause if he sang out in his pure, unrestrained voice everybody would stop singing to listen to him.
2) I’d like to watch him play with his pet dog and cats. I love animals so that would be precious overload for me.
3) I would like to watch him shave, AND I’d like to see how he would look if he went without shaving for a week.
4) A friend of his from Murray High in a video a long time ago said that David was rrreeaaally aggressive on the basketball court. I would love to watch him play basketball that way, with lots of in-your-face aggression. Arms outstretched on the offense, snatching the ball away from someone, racing toward the goal post pounding a loud dribble and then the zero gravity leap to make the goal. The radiant smile when the ball sails neatly through the hoop. The thrill of victory and the glorious sweat. But not wearing shorts like in the guitar hero commercial, but in sweat pants, something like this…
5) I’d like to see him deal with conflict, like when the siblings get on big bro’s nerves. I imagine disrespecting their mom would trigger a look and a warning quicker than anything else.
6) I’d like to see him do his whole routine of vocal exercises and throw in the P90X routine too. 😉
7) Once he said he sometimes dances when he’s alone in his room. I would love to see how he dances to music when he thinks no one is watching.
8) In the morning, does he get right up when the alarm goes off or does he hit snooze and roll back over. Not a morning person vs very disciplined person. Which won rules?
9) I’d like to watch him watch cartoons and see the silly spontaneous laughter. Dork.
10) Finally, I would dearly love watching him make an acceptance speech for a Grammy. Many, many such speeches.

I’m with dja, I like to partake of a meal with David. Is he a wolf-er downer or a chew-chew- chew person, as in the famous grape skin incident. Say he has meat, potatoes and a veggie on his plate -plus a salad. Does he eat the salad first or with the meal? Does he eat one thing at a time until it’s gone or does he take equal bites of everything, ending up with one bite of each thing to finish. Does he mind if his food gets mixed together on his plate or is he one who can’t stand their food touching? Such serious questions like this need to be answered or I need to get a life!
But this is way to much fun!!

NEW ORLEANS (AP)—Unheralded Garrett Hartley(notes) lifted the New Orleans Saints into their first Super Bowl with a 40-yard field goal in overtime for a 31-28 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
After a battered Brett Favre(notes) threw away the NFC championship game with an interception deep in Saints territory at the end of regulation Sunday, Drew Brees(notes) guided New Orleans to the Minnesota 22. Hartley, suspended at the start of the season for using a banned stimulant, split the uprights.
The Saints will meet Peyton Manning(notes) and the Indianapolis Colts in the Super Bowl in two weeks in Miami.
It’s the first time the top seeds in each conference made the big game since the 1993 season.

I know this has nothing to do with David, but I was born and raised in Baton Rouge. For most of my life the Saints have been dismissed as losers but they never gave up and the fans never gave up on them. I watched the game even though I don’t really care about football. When they scored the winning field goal in overtime, I haven’t jumped and yelled watching TV that much since David’s performance in the Finale. Now see how it came back to David anyway? I don’t know how that happens, but I’ve learned to live with it. 😆

David’s vlog showed a sadness, a side to him that he rarely shares. One of the things I love about him is how unpretentious he is. When other 19 year olds are concerned about being cool, that’s the last thing on David’s mind. He’s been witness to less than perfect conditions in Central America and the Haitian earthquake coverage; he is keeping it real!

Since I play & coached soccer for over 20 years, would love to see him play. Seems to me he did some indoor thing before a dance, once. Also would love to watch him on one of his runs. He seems to love it -not hard to imagine why.

haha you guys, we are so funny! I think David would freak if he had to read all this! I have this little fantasy about pulling up at a red light and looking over to see David in a car next to me! He would smile and I would wave and it would be wonderful. Of course, I would have to pull over after that to recover!!!

Vocoder?
A vocoder (pronounced /ˈvoʊkoʊdər/, a combination of the words voice and encoder) is an analysis / synthesis system, mostly used for speech. In the encoder, the input is passed through a multiband filter, each band is passed through an envelope follower, and the control signals from the envelope followers are communicated to the decoder. The decoder applies these (amplitude) control signals to corresponding filters in the (re)synthesizer.
We know David doesn’t need this….But what could’ve he sung?
